The Angel and The Slave

"How?" she shook her head and replied. "I'm just a kid."
"But I heard intergalactic pilots talk about them. They're the most beautiful creatures in the universe and they live on the moon of Iego, I believe."
"You're very sweet. Have you been to that planet?"
"No, but I listen to the pilots and traders who pass through here. I'm a pilot too, and someday I'll fly away from this planet."
"If you ever manage to, you can come visit me. There's a planet I want to go to," he watched her as she cleaned a piece.
"You'll see, I will."
"How long have you been a pilot?" she asked, trying to sit beside him, but not being able to; she had already decided not to use her abilities, which made it difficult for her to climb onto the counter.
"My whole life," he stepped down and helped her up by holding her waist.
"How long have you been here?"
"I don't remember exactly, I was very little, I was 3, I think," he climbed back up and sat down beside her. "My mom and I belonged to Gardulla the Hutt, but we were lost in a podrace bet."
"Are you a slave?" she asked, puzzled.
"I am a person, and my name is Anakin," he scolded, annoyed.
"I'm sorry, it's just that this planet is very strange to me. Where I come from, everything is very different."
Everything was quiet until a clatter was heard, and from a corner, a small droid emerged, followed by Jar Jar, whose antics made Padme laugh when he grabbed the droid by its "neck."
"Hey, press its nose," I informed obviously.
"Would you help me find a tool? I need it to fix my speeder."
"Of course," I said and helped him down. "Follow me, I wouldn't have lasted this long here if I weren't good at building things."
"We're leaving," he announced, walking towards the door. "Jar Jar, leave that."
"I still haven't found my tool."
"We'll look somewhere else, bring your speeder."
"As you wish," he muttered and took his speeder, holding it under his arm. "I'm very glad to have met you, Anakin."
"It was my pleasure too."
Before leaving, Astra waved her hand and the things Jar Jar had knocked over returned to their places. They went to look with other traders, but no one had what they needed, so they walked to an alley and Qui-Gon took out his communication device to call Obi-Wan.
"Are you sure there's nothing left aboard?"
"Just some supply crates and the queen's wardrobe, but it's not enough for a trade, not for the amount she's talking about."
"Have you been able to contact Paraddle?"
"What good would that do?" he asked, puzzled.
"Adora would help us, but she would send transmissions, it's still very dangerous," he complained.
"What if we sell Astra?"
"No jokes. We'll try to find a solution, we'll call you later."
"Don't do it, don't do it, the inhabitants here are crazy, they'll rob us and crash."
"I doubt it, I have nothing of value, that's the problem," he left, and Astra stood by his side.
"Daddy, if we don't find a way to pay. Will we stay here forever?"
"You'll see, we'll find a way, don't worry. We'll get out of here."
They were a little ahead when he heard Jar Jar screaming and a creature, which Astra couldn't identify, was choking him with its legs. It probably would have killed him if Anakin hadn't arrived and helped.
"Hello," he greeted.
"Hello," Qui-Gon replied.
"Your friend almost turned into Gungan pulp, provoked a very dangerous Dug named Sebulba," he helped him up.
"Meesa no like hits, that's the last thing meesa want."
"The boy's right," Astra pointed out, tired. "Sebulba almost killed you. Thanks, young friend."
"But, but I didn't do anything."
"That's the problem, you never do anything," the girl scolded. "You're a walking disaster. Cause another mess, and I'll solve the trade problem by selling you as a slave."
"You know we don't do those things."
"Supposedly we own him."
They kept walking to the outskirts of the village with Anakin following them and commenting on things about the place. They arrived at the stall of a sweet old woman selling some kind of fruits.
"You'll like these sticks," she handed one to Qui-Gon and looked for a larger one to give to Astra. "This one's for you, take it."
"Thank you," she said and they stored them, Qui-Gon in his belt and hers in her pocket.
"My bones hurt a lot, it must be a storm, Ani, you should go home."
"Do you have shelter?"
"We'll go back to the ship," he answered simply.
"And where is it?" he tried to follow them.
"Far from here."
"Like 30 or 40 minutes away," he added.
"You won't make it in time, sandstorms are very, very dangerous. Come, I'll take you to my house."
Anakin guided them to his house, and just as he said, the storm caught up with them halfway. So, they could advance by covering their faces with their arms to avoid as much sand in their eyes as possible until they reached the house.
"Mom," he calls her. "Mom, I'm back, these are my friends, Mom."
"I'm Qui-Gon Jinn," he introduces, "this is Padme, Jar Jar, Astra, and R2-D2," but since Anakin was busy talking, he didn't hear.
"I'm building a droid. Do you want to see it?"
"Of course," she follows him out.
"Her son was very kind to offer us shelter in their house."
"Come, I'll show you C-3PO," she led her past her mother, with R2 following them.
"Isn't it great? It's not finished yet."
"Did you make it? It's impressive," she comments excitedly, examining some parts.
"Do you really like it?" he earns a nod. "It's a droid that will help Mom. Look," he presses a button and it turns on.
"Ah, where is everyone?" she asks, getting up, unable to see due to lack of an eye.
"Oops," he places it back.
"Hello, I'm C-3PO, human-cyber relations. How may I serve you?"
"Perfect function."
"When the storm passes, I'll show you something. I built a racing ship," the droid walks to the entrance, where it meets R2.
"If you keep showing me things like this, I'll steal you to repair ships in Coruscant."
"Excuse me, but what do you mean by 'naked'?" it emitted a beep that caused laughter from Astra.
"That my circuits are showing, how embarrassing."
"What do you do for fun?" he asks her.
"Usually, I play with my speeder, but I need a tool to fix it."
"In that case, I'll help you. You didn't tell me, what's your name?"
"Most people call me Astra, you can call me that too."
"Did your father give you that name?" he asks interestedly.
"He's not my father, but I wish he were."
"Who is he then?" he looks at him questioningly. "Your father or your mother."
"He's not my father, I don't have one. He and Adora say I was born out of nowhere. He says the Force made me be born, and she says the gods gave her a gift. I don't know who to believe."
"Did you also feel it?"
"What thing?"
"When we met," he takes her hand and measures it against his own.
"Yes, I felt it. It was warm and calm," she traces her palm, murmuring. "It imprinted me at dawn on the hills of Paraddle, like the most beautiful place in the galaxy."
"It reminded me of the races," this time, he plays with her hand. "When the sun is high, and the wind blows strong, when I feel free."
—Astra, why are you so quiet?" she entered and saw them holding hands.
—Padme, Qui-Gon—she named them, turning to look at them.
—We were talking—Anakin replied.
—You haven't spoken in at least 5 minutes, the last thing Astra said was that she didn't know whether to believe Adora or me—Qui-Gon laughed.
—No, the last thing they said was.
—It was that, the food is ready, come out.
The children left the room, and Qui-Gon paused for a minute. The girl's discomfort had disappeared since they met the boy, and they claimed to be talking when they hadn't really said anything. Astra had claimed to feel the same thing as Anakin when they first met.
A doubt grew in him. There were two prophecies, and because of his birth, he always believed Astra was the guide, thinking that in a few years, the Chosen One would come. But perhaps the Chosen One was born before her. Perhaps he was here. Perhaps it was this boy. Perhaps the path had led them to him, and perhaps that same path would eventually separate him from the girl he had loved as a daughter against all codes since Adora handed her over.

Chut Chut Pateesa, I hope you are doing well.
As always, I apologize for disappearing again. This time, I had to take care of the new Younglings who arrived at the temple. I know it's not an excuse, but I seriously considered using tape to stick them to their beds when it was time to sleep. (For a moment, I thought it was my karma for having made Obi-Wan suffer so much in my Youngling days)
And as compensation for being off the radar, I will publish another chapter for all of you tomorrow. As always, please like, comment, and follow me to know when I post.
Until tomorrow, sleep well, beware of the Sith, my dear Padawans, remember "your ability to speak does not make you intelligent," and may the Force be with you.

@herothehardway published an achingly beautiful fic about Adora struggling with being anxious insomniac, which I read at like 4 am the day it was published, because I am also an anxious insomniac, and I instantly dropped everything to podfic it. Enjoy!
Listen to The Infinite of Sky [Podfic] on A03
Summary:
Adora can’t sleep at night. She was willing to give up everything, her life even, to save everything, everyone she loved. She knows how to do that—how to sacrifice. How to die, even. What she doesn’t know is how to live, after, and feel that she can ever deserve a happy ending.

Did you know apparently if you're "old" you're forbidden from enjoying anything? 🙄 One of the She Ra writers whose work I really like is over 40, and guess what, it's fine! People need to get over themselves and not be jerks lmao. Everyone should get some Legos and chill
I think some of the younger people in online fandom really have no clue what the average age the viewers of their favorite shows are, much less the average age of the fandom. the average age of the she-ra fandom creators, from every single creator's age that I know, is early to late 20s. of course there are teen fans, but remember, catra and adora's story was written by noelle, an almost-30 year old lesbian, and thus a lot of their love story is resonant with the experiences that queer people who are now in their 20s-30s have had, even if they aren't still the age that catra and adora are in the show (18-21). they felt similarly at that age and see themselves represented in the show, so they create content for it based on their own experiences.
if any age gap between creator and character is a problem, then these people should direct their dumb takes at the very concept of the entire genre of YA (which is predominantly written by adults), because if what I'm doing is a problem then that has to be a 100X worse since the age gap is even larger there (it's actually large enough to be called a gap), but I have an askbox so I guess it's easier to harass me 🤷‍♂️ They are holding young queer people (YES, 20s is still young) to a ridiculous standard that no one in the real world is held to, which is even crueler when you remember that the world is so harsh and exclusionary of queer people and our experiences already so we have nowhere else to be.
She-ra is honestly the first TV show where I saw my experience being queer accurately represented. these weren't just queer characters, but they also had queer experiences. of course i, and other queer fans like me, are going to latch onto it. these people are completely ignorant of the actual reasons age gaps can be problems and thus misidentifying any numbers that don't perfectly match up as a problem because they don't know the actual problems that arise from gaps are and thus can't identify them accurately. this isn't the way that the world outside of extremely insular fandom wank circles operates and i guess we just have to hope that they eventually gain enough experience to realize that.

Can you talk more about how Adora was so wildly out of character this season, because you're one of the only other people I've seen who mentioned that. Sure, we all knew c/a was gonna be canon in some way but the fact that Adora seemed to forget everything Catra had done (including 'kill' Angella, who was a mother figure to her too) was so crazy. It bothered me more than absolutely anything so see Adora's development chucked out the window.
Take a sit. This is gonna be a long post.
One of the reasons I fell for this show so much was because I identified with Adora on a very personal level. She's the character that I have been waiting for all my life. When I saw her on the other seasons, I knew what decision she was going to make, how she was going to act, I imagined how she felt.
During this season (except for the first episode I think) I was in a constant "Adora, sweetie... what the fuck are you doing?". It's as simple as... when Catra calls to let them know she's going to send Glimmer. When Adora heard her voice, she immediately was like "Catra omg my love I missed you so much!!!" and??? Yeah, no??? After everything what happened on S4, I think a much more real response would have been for her to be like "Catra? What are you doing there? Now you're on the Horde Prime side? -.-". I mean, it seemed weird to me in the first place that Adora was never suspicious of Catra. They didn't interact during S4, as far as Adora knew, Catra was still a bad guy, she had no reason to trust her. At least not until Glimmer explained the situation to her.
Ahhh and talking about Glimmer... Forget the ship for a moment. You could see how Adora was legitimately worried throughout S4 about her situation with Glimmer. You could see it was something that mattered a lot to her,  it hurt her that things were wrong with the queen. And now you tell me that when they finally reunited again, her reaction was "Yeah it's okay I'm also sorry where is Catra?"
During the final episode of S3 Adora finally realizes something very important. She is not to blame for the things Catra is doing. She offered Catra more than once to join the Rebellion, giving her plenty of opportunities to redeem herself (fuck, even Shadow Weaver give her a chance to join them). Catra rejected them all, so Adora finally decides to accept that there's nothing more she can do for her. During S4, Adora and Catra meet ONLY ONCE throughout the season, and the meeting doesn't seem significant to them at all. After what happened in "The Portal", Adora got over Catra. She realizes that even though she cares about her, Catra has already made her decision. Adora cannot continue to want to save someone who doesn't want to be saved, and although it hurt, she had to leave her behind. They didn't even talk about her, except when Scorpia mentioned her at E10.
Knowing this... That Adora listens to a message from Catra from the enemy ship and doesn't suspect at any moment that it could be a trap? She decides to come back to save her even though Glimmer just got out of there and could be traumatic to her??? That she immediately forget everything Catra did and accept her "sorry" as a valid apology??? And suddenly she's very clingy with her and she blushes at everything Catra does??? And now it turns out that she has been totally in love with Catra all this time??? Don't get me wrong, that last one is not bad, but it seems to me that Adora would have been a little more open about that. If I knew her the way I think I do, that Adora was so in love with Catra from the beginning would have been very evident to everyone (no my friends, we watched the same show, I'm sorry but IT WASN'T). C'mon, even the plot would have been a little different. But no, they showed us how Adora completely got over her and grow... and then they made them a couple there without any further development.
Adora grew a lot as a person in the past seasons. She learned the value of love and true friendship, and became a loyal and strong hero with solid moral principles. And now she has put aside everything she has learned in order to forgive Catra immediately, and didn't mind putting others at risk as long as Catra was comfortable. I think I can say that Adora had more reasons to distrust Catra than to distrust Shadow Weaver on S4. And you can say "Okay but Catra was her friend, it's normal that I forgive her so quickly" *sight* The thing I loved most about She-Ra was that nothing was solved with the power of love and friendship...
Adora felt guilty for leaving Catra behind. Catra tried to kill her, kidnapped her best friends, attacked her new home, hurt many innocent people, activated a machine that could destroy the entire universe, indirectly she was responsible for what happened to Angella... And despite everything, Adora always offered her a chance, at least until she realized that enough was enough. She suffered a lot for Catra, and when she finally was fine without her, you tell me that she appears and that Adora acts as if no one had happened? I find it incredible that people are accepting that. Even if you're a c/a shipper, you should notice this is wrong. It's your ship, damn it! You must complain that it should have been better developed! No just "okay they're together... Boom! Kiss!"
Adora had a beautiful charecter development in the other seasons. But throughout the entire S5, she acted as she would have on the first day she left the Horde. Sorry guys, but S5 Adora is not the force captain I saw growing up to became the savior of Etheria. That’s why I can't accept this season as a real thing. You can't just take a great hero and make her forget all her principles just to make a ship canon.
