AAHHHHHHH thank you so much!!! I love giving the Fire Fam a future where they've learned the ways they were treating each other were crap and they apologize and take time to support each other through some very needed, very emotional healing. (and no, no Zuko and Iroh forcing Azula to spend time with them or forcing her to realize she was wrong; them all legitimately coming to terms that each one of them was raised to be an unfeeling soldier alongside their royal title and they messed each other up while trying to survive and it would take YEARS.)

omg like the Iroh thing........ thank you. He's such an important character to me, even if his writing gets a bit crazy. I have a lot of feelings about this guy as someone who has finally been discovering a lot about my mental health in my 30s after dealing with issues since my teenage years and been discovering 'wow hey this goes deep into the family and no one's realized it'. His inconsistencies actually feel very personal and real to me and come off as someone who is, in my mind, dealing with hefty depression while still struggling to cut off, what, 60 years(?) worth of roots to his home? Whether he's a White Lotus by now or not, Iroh lost his son and his father and his crown and EVERYTHING he'd been raised to be, his whole identity, a mere 6 years ago. Homeboy is NOT well, and it takes Zuko's near murder from the pirates (imo) to have some kind of epiphany of 'I don't want to lose what little good I've gained so far'. Like... he's already been in his darkest hour and nearly losing Zuko made him realize how much he's recovered since then and how much that kid means to him and it just revives all those father instincts that he shoveled down since Lu Ten's death; like this is long enough but if you let me be incoherent enough I WILL unload all of my personal feels about this man ;;

He is incredibly nervous, but you're so patient with him. <3

It's probably really sweet and soft and slow sex because Riddle's settling into a pace that suits the both of you and it's also his first time so you want it to be endearing and memorable for him. Nothing hardcore or painful for the first time, but you can be certain that after that night he will find himself at your doorstep yet again. And again and again. In honour of a peace treaty ceremony, Peach holds a fancy ball with guests from several allied kingdoms attending.

At some point one of the bathrooms has an issue right when a diplomat guest was washing their hands and they end up drenched and furious.

Coming out of the bathroom, the diplomat comes across a portly, rough-looking little guy in overalls chilling around.

"You there! Are you part of the castle staff?"

They get a shrug that might mean "sort of?"

"Then don't stand there gawking and fix this dreadful faucet instead!"

Because they're an ass, the diplomat nags the little guy as he fetches a toolbox, then stands there with their friends (who have joined them in the meantime) and criticizes the appalling work ethic of the staff.

"We'll make sure your superiors know about your dillydallying while you're supposed to do your job!"

To their great frustration, the plumber just shrugs and starts looking at the leak, ignoring them. Since a passive target isn't as fun, and watching a guy work on pipes gets quickly boring, the diplomat and their friends go back to the ballroom.

They found the crow whispering in agitation, the Princess looking worried and talking quietly to her advisors.

"What's going on?"

"The ceremony is delayed for now, the princess' consort is missing."

"The hero of the Mushroom Kingdom ? We can't start without him!"

"It would be insulting to his noble deeds and to our host!"

"It's not like she would agree to proceed without her consort anyway, I heard she's extremely fond of him."

Until the doors of the ballroom open...and in walks the same little guy from before, wearing royal clothes matching the Princess' gown, wiping his hands together as if he has just finished washing them. Peach immediately runs to him and takes his hands in hers.

"Mario, dear! Are you alright? I was getting worried!"

The little guy shakes his head with a comforting smile and a reassuring hand gesture...and locks eyes with the diplomat and their gaggle.

Who by now are sweating bullets.

World's Saddest Breakfast Club: Fun Facts

The opening line is a result of me angsting to @batmoniker about how I couldn't figure out how to start my fic, and her jokingly being like "I got you, bro. Ready? 'It was a dark and stormy night'" and then me just being stubborn and committing to the bit.

The story started with a vague idea of "everyone in the kitchen at 3am for different reasons and Jason channeling his inner short order cook." All I knew going in was the order I wanted people to appear, what was wrong with them (sick, hurt, insomnia, etc) and what food Jason would be making for them. Everything else I made up as I went.

If I could go back and change one thing about this fic, I'd reduce how long Jason was kidnapped to like, 6-8 days, max. 16 days seemed funny when I wrote it, but in hindsight, I feel like he'd be a little more fucked up in the story if he were really escaping from that many days of captivity lmao

I headcanon Dick as the kind of person who straight-up forgets to eat when he's preoccupied, and Jason as the kind of person who cannot FATHOM this concept. Jason absolutely will miss a meal if the situation calls for it, don't get me wrong, but he's aware the entire time he's doing it and it makes him super antsy. (This once turned into A Thing™ when Jason was like, 13 years old and staying with Dick for the weekend for some brotherly bonding and Dick forgot about lunch and by 5pm, Jason maybe sorta kinda had a minor panic attack about it. Dick was a lot more mindful of that moving forward)

Bruce's favorite food being lobster thermidor is a reference to the Lego Batman movie

I wrote this whole fic with Julia Child's recipe pulled up in one tab and my google doc in the other

At some point I realized that since I started with fresh lobsters, I was going to have to write Jason killing them, and it derailed me so hard that the fic nearly became about meatloaf instead. (Never mind the fact that Jason canonically kills human beings — that's totally fine. I just draw the line at him killing lobsters 😰)

(in the end I just kinda glossed over it and made sure they were already cooked before Damian appeared so I wouldn't have to address it 😬)

Dick's reoccurring shoulder injury is a reference to the DCAU where I swear that man has dislocated his shoulder/injured his arm at least 4x

The line about Tim being allergic/throwing up when he eats eggs was inspired by a line in chap 11 of @goldkirk's fic Hymn, which I've reread about 37x

Jason is correct— grits are fucking delicious and definitely not baby food.

The idea for Cass being a big meat-eater comes from a comic panel where Steph offers her a plate of rice and beans and Cass says she needs meat and starts mischievously eying Steph's hamster. Can't find the panel to save my life, but I promise it's out there.

Steph's nickname of "Zombie Boy" for Jason is borrowed from @audreycritter's Cor Et Cerebrum series (which is a fucking masterpiece, btw)

This fic was gonna be called "Creatures of the Night" until batmoniker said Steph's line made for a better title

Several people have asked me whether Jason was really cooking Bruce's lobster to spite him, or if he was actually intending to make it for him all along. The answer is... both? Like Jason's kind of an unreliable narrator in that he's trying to convince himself that he's just doing what he's doing to be a little shithead when deep down it's all stemming from his need to take care of his family, you know? Like he'll never admit it, but that's where his heart is at.

To everyone who's asked for a part 2 where the family finds out Jason was kidnapped, I'm gonna be honest: the main reason I don't think I'm ever going to write that scene is because I can't come up with a good enough joke for him to make to accidentally out himself 💀

obv the movie is titled zoey 102 but the most annoying thing about it was that we didn't even really get to see quinn and logan in their relationship. like the focus was almost always on their conflicts with regards to the marriage but the first real moment between them where it wasn't about that conflict was when they had their first dance and quinn teased him about the oyster shuckers. and it was such a small moment but i loved it and i want more insight into their daily life and the everyday teasing and uplifting and idk like again obv the title is zoey 102 but i don't think most people would disagree that it fully being a movie about quinn and logan would have been so much better. like the zoey and chase plot took up so much unnecessary space and their sudden bout of closure didn't even make sense bc they had one conversation prior to it after over a decade of mutual non-communication so why was any of this more important than quinn and logan. esp logan tbh. like quinn kind of had the liberty of a few moments to herself where she expressed her worldview in her own way but logan had close to none up until the proposal and yes i do love that he's quinn's number one supporter but i also wanted to know what that was like outside of the context of the wedding if that makes sense. like how he exists in their day to day relationship. there were glimpses of that in the final wedding sequence but i wanted so much more and i know the idea of a spin-off is so delusional at this point but the cast do apparently want to do it and i for one would love an exclusively quinn and logan spin-off where zoey and chase can be side characters ig 🙄 so.. why not!
