Skyward Sword Zonai AU!
School shenanigans with the zonai crew!
Zelda is the daughter of the Headmaster still, and is best friends with Link. They go about their days in the academy, learning to fend off monsters that have long since disappeared from the floating islands of the goddesses’ chosen people. Link is a lazy boy, content to loaf around and glide freely on his loftwing, while Zelda is much more studious.
Trying to figure out how to draw the characters to be similar to their in game counterparts yet still with zonai flair was quite fun! Even if I toned the zonai decorations down to make them easier to draw lol
Link’s model in Skyward Sword has bags under his eyes, and he begins the game having nightmares about an evil force crawling up from a crevasse in the earth. Perhaps he often dreams of terrible omens for things to come?

Fic Rec List
AO3 is holding a Feedback Fest for International Fanworks Day! I saw @zarvasace make a fic rec list for it, so here's one of my own! Late to the party but oh well. Here's ten of my favorite bookmarks (no particular order) :D
Immemorial by schrodingers__cat - (LU, complete) Gift fic for me!!! It's one of my favorites of all time. Sky-centric, with all my favorite headcannons thrown in, plus Warriors and Time brotherly bonding hours. I love this fic so much <3
To Hold The Sun, To Catch The Moon series by @obsidiangst, @hyperphonic, and @softpromise - (BOTW, one fic complete, one in progress) Incredible BOTW AU fic. Link is Zonai (native people of Hyrule) and Zelda is Hyrulean, and they fall in love. There's anti-colonialism, anti-patriarchy, anti-racism, political intrigue, and so much more. It's beautifully written and I love it so much
Looking For Group by @tashilover - (LU, complete) INCREDIBLE modern AU. Wild meets the gang, and the gang is wonderful. I love the worldbuilding in this one
All that glitters by Pebble - (Bonus Links, complete) SUPER CUTE MINI AND MAGE FIC!!! I want to consume this fic every day of my life
Old Wounds by @minty-mumbles - (LU, complete) Wild and Legend have a chronic pain flare while traveling with the chain
The Nebula Brigade by @heroesspirit - (Heroes Spirit, in progress) Super incredible space AU for Heroes Spirit. Bugs. Cori Eras bugs <3
Shopping Episode by @zarvasace - (LU, complete) Incredible holiday fic for Shatterproof (disability au). So fluffy and sweet and everyone is perfect
Peppermint Winter by @musashi - (Skyward Sword, complete) Link, Groose, and Zelda experience a snow day on the Surface. Link gets sick and also has a lot of feelings. Those two are not necessarily related lol. My all time favorite skyward sword fic <3

AU Hyrule Lore for these two. So, when the Golden Godesses created the sky islands for the Humans and Zonai to live on, a lot of dust fell, which created the world of demons, and the demons themselves. The goddesses largely didn't associate with them, because they had their own magic, and didn't need the help of the Golden Godesses, unlike the mortals who needed protection. Then, when the golden goddesses created Hyrule as a gift for the mortal born goddess Hylia, as a sacred place for her people to live, the Demons got buried under it, but were allowed to travel freely. Most didn't mind. Demise did. Cue the sealing war. This decimated Hyrule, causing Hylia's people to move back to the sky islands. Skipping the whole of skyward sword, when the Humans move back to Hyrule, and the Golden Goddesses ascend, believing that Hylia can defend Hyrule on her own, the Zonai are left pretty weakened, and eventually split themselves apart, into the Minish (the magic and soul of the Zonai) and the Darknuts (the mortal bodies that developed souls of their own from the residual magic left behind.) Unfortunately, the loss of the remaining magic of the Zonai left them partially vulnerable to Ganon's corruption. Asterion is a Demon, the first to try ascending to the surface in roughly 8,000 years. He lives on a mountain near Rito Village, with a rito blacksmith. Roscoe is a Darknut. Technically still a monster, as he's yet to be uncorrupted, his mind is his own, and he acts as a black knight of sorts, opposing what he believes are his own people, because he thinks Hyrule deserves a chance at peace. He lives in a tavern's basement.

The more bullshittery I hear about TotK, the more inclined I am to post about my Courage Lost AU (and other unnamed AUs) just in spite that I can build a better world/lore than a bajillion dollar company can. Like not throwing random shit in the game, actually build from pre-existing lore set up in BotW, fuckin CONNECT the two games so that it looks like an actual sequel.
Also gettin rid of shit, like basically all the hand abilities. Lore wise it just doesn't make sense. How tf are you gonna a tell me Rarau had magical tech glue? NONE of the Zonai machines are glued, we never even see Rarau USE any hand abilities, his thing seems to be light magic. Which also doesn't make sense cause why do Zonai have light magic when it's supposed to be the blood of Hylia? Sonia should have light magic (it's literally her name) cause she's a Hylian who could possibly trace her ancestory back to Hylia and the light magic. I think it would have made more sense to give Rarau, these mythical 'god-like' tech inclined beings time magic. Thou the game, both BotW and by connection TotK seem to have completely done away with Hylia. We technically were never told the Goddess Statue *IS* Hylia, we as the player make that connection because that's her statue from Skyward Sword. It also seems like the land we know as Hyrule was kinda already there and Hylians like Sonia developed. Later the Zonai 'descend from the heavens and bestow power with the Hylian queen'.
Yes previous Zelda's use time magic like OoT Zelda sending Link back in time, but one could argue it was the OCARINA, not entirely Zelda herself, who used time magic. Zelda and esp BotW has been more associated with light than time. Yes she did keep the Calamity at bay for 100 years but that doesn't mean she has time magic. It means she used her own light magic to keep it from spreading more. She didn't encompass the Calamity goop in a time bubble, she just held it off.
Idk. I never felt the hype for TotK. Somethin was always off. I *wanted to feel hype cause I like BotW, I like the open world, the freedom, the story, ect... but even my first few hours playing in the tutorial area, somethin was off. Stuff wasn't making sense even then.

The Never-ending Cycle
The Legend of Zelda D&D AU Muse Masterlist
Princess Zelda Aasimar Divine Soul Sorcerer (Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom) Born the latest in a long line of chosen vessels for the goddess Hylia, Zelda knew well the terrible Calamity that would soon come, but piety was not something she yet understood. Calling on a goddess for strength was a strange concept, and it nearly cost her everything when she failed to call upon the power that was all her own.
Aasimar Light Domain Cleric (Skyward Sword) Hailing from the far distant past and only spoken of in legend, Zelda would've preferred to live her life in the clouds, teasing her childhood friend and enjoying the peace—but clearly, fate had other plans. Her duty as the reincarnation of the goddess Hylia required she travel to the surface world and seal away her ancient enemy once and for all.
Hylian Twilight Cleric (Twilight Princess) With the fate of her kingdom being threatened by invaders from another dimension, Queen Zelda had no choice but to submit. She let the villains claim her castle and kingdom for the safety of her people, and with the hope that her own plan to change the course of the fight would come to fruition. If only they could find the chosen hero...
Link Hylian Fighter/Ranger (Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom) Though his memories of his past life from one-hundred years ago are still fuzzy, Link knows exactly who he is. A skilled warrior and swordsman, a survivalist through and through, and the devoted companion of the Princess Zelda. Nothing—not even the endless stretch of time—will keep him from standing by her side.
Hylian Champion Fighter (Skyward Sword) All that Link wanted in his life was to soar through the heavens and spend his days with the girl of his dreams. Instead, he found himself plummeting to the surface world below Skyloft, a talking sword slung over his back, and with a die-hard determination in his mind to find his best friend and bring her back home at any cost.
Hylian Order of Lycan Blood Hunter (Twilight Princess) The twisted nature of the Twilight Realm certainly had an odd effect to the simple ranch hand from Ordon. Now cursed—or blessed depending on your perspective—with the ability to shift into a feral canine beast, his journey to set right his hometown and save the children who looked up to him has taken a turn for the darker.
Ganondorf Gerudo Barbarian/Sorcerer (Tears of the Kingdom) Long ago, during the age of the Zonai, Ganondorf led the Gerudo during a time of much hardship. He turned to Zonai for their incredible power and advanced technology...and when they failed to aid, he decided he would claim that power for himself and his people. The war that followed would be one to change him forever into the dreaded Demon King.
Gerudo Fighter/Warlock (Twilight Princess) Driven by an ambition to conquer Hyrule for his people, the Gerudo Chief Ganondorf made a pact with a member of the strange Twili, aiding him in usurping the throne of his realm in exchange for the forces and powers to then attack Hyrule Castle and claim that throne for himself.
Impa Sheikah Shadow Monk (Age of Calamity) The first protector of the princess Zelda, Impa is her most trusted companion, and most confident friend before Link arrived. Despite her silent and stoic nature, she has a kind heart, and trusts in her friend to do what is right, even if it goes against what her father believes is best.
Purah Sheikah Armorer Artificer (Tears of the Kingdom) Restored to her youthful vitality once again, the brilliant and incredibly gorgeous Professor Purah has dedicated herself to the reestablishing and progressing of Post-Calamity Hyrule. Her mastery of the Ancient Sheikah technology has gifted her a talent in creating her own devices which barrel Hyrule towards industrial revolution.
Midna Twili Arcane Trickster (Twilight Princess) Hailing from the strange and twisted Twilight Realm, Midna is the true and proper queen of the Twili, removed from her throne by a horrible usurper. Her ambition is to reclaim her throne at any cost, seeking out the Fused Shadow to create the weapon capable of reclaiming her power and destroying the one who took it from her.
Mipha Zora Life Domain Cleric (Breath of the Wild) Meek and humble, Mipha was the chosen champion for the Zora during the time of the Calamity. Though clearly skilled and talented in her own right, Mipha struggled with her own insecurities of her youth and held a lack of confidence in her own purpose.
Sidon Zora Open Sea Paladin (Tears of the Kingdom) Bold and outgoing, Sidon is a beacon of inspiration and optimism in the bleak world of Hyrule Post-Calamity. His bravery and charm lifts the spirits of those in the Zora Domain, and he leads his people with great zeal and enthusiasm to see his land made good and safe again.
Revali Rito Fighter/Rogue (Breath of the Wild) Young and brash, the expert marksman has a bit of a chip on his shoulder about playing second-fiddle to the chosen champion and wielder of the Master Sword. Revali's cockiness is not unearned, but he should be careful—perhaps it will spell his doom soon enough.
Teba Rito Ranger/Rogue (Breath of the Wild) Cool and level-headed, Teba is an even-tempered member of the Rito warriors, and a skilled marksman as well. He was vital in defeating the Malice-infused Vah Medoh over Rito Village, but now he spends his days trekking the cool Hebra mountains, doing his best to keep the region safe and secure.
Daruk Goron Totem Warrior Barbarian (Breath of the Wild) Daruk is the bold and powerful leader of the Goron, and served them well during the Calamity. He served as a sure and steady rock in that time, refusing to back down from any challenge, and standing tall to defend his friends when the time to fight arose.
Urbosa Gerudo Storm Herald Barbarian (Breath of the Wild) Once the chief of the Gerudo, Urbosa was a wise and kind leader, who led her people with power and authority. A friend to Zelda's mother, she is close with the princess, and much of her time before the Calamity was spent worrying over her.
Riju Gerudo Barbarian/Rogue (Tears of the Kingdom) Though somewhat insecure with her own right to lead her people, Riju is every bit the wise and kind leader that her grandmother was, and just as skilled a warrior. Despite the cool and aloof facade she puts on with her people, she is still a child at heart.
Mineru Zonai Battle Smith Artificer (Tears of the Kingdom) Cool and aloof, and not a facade, the slender Zonai scientist is interested in all kinds of knowledge—whether they be ancient myths, or the specific structural anatomy of a robot from a far-flung era. Her studies are deep and intense and leave her laboratory dimly glowing well into the night.
King Rauru Zonai Light Domain Cleric (Tears of the Kingdom) Once the proud and kind ruler of Hyrule in the distant past, Raura was gifted with incredible power and master of light itself. He stood as a beacon of goodness and right for those who lived in Hyrule, and despite his own humility, many in his time revered him as a god.
Queen Sonia Hylian Order Domain Cleric (Tears of the Kingdom) Sweet and kind would be the words to describe Sonia, the first of Hyrule's queens. A gentle soul who would never harm another, she always sought peace, and did her best to lead her people by her example. When war arose, though, she found herself outmatched...
Twinrova Gerudo Genie Warlock (Ocarina of Time) Born from the fused Twinrova witches, Twinrova is a powerful Gerudo witch bound in service to her master and king, Ganon. Dark and sadistic, her mastery of fire and ice spells are unrivaled, and she stands against any who would seek to lay low her king. It is unclear if the transformation is temporary, or if Twinrova is truly her own self.

Tumblr media
Tumblr decided to be incredibly rude so we couldn’t directly post the ask lol, but sure, buddy! We actually have a couple posts that help introduce the lads, but we’ll give you an updated version (complete with images lol) And if you’re new, Ravioverse is an AU based on the LinkedUniverse comic!
We’ll go in chronological order beneath the cut since this’ll be pretty long lmao:
Tumblr media
First and foremost is Origin! He’s the first Ravio and the source of the hero’s spirit, though he was never chosen by the Gods to be a hero. He’s got a vendetta against The Demon King Demise and looks forward to the day that he gets to snipe him with a silver arrow.
Fun Fact: He knows a little about how to enchant equipment since his family had been enchanters, but he usually lacks the materials to do anything more than arrows made with Roc feathers.
Tumblr media
The second is Empyrean (who I will one day draw better lmao), aka the counterpart to Hyrule’s Chosen Hero (Skyward Sword), and the Ravio responsible for forging the Sovereign Rod. He’s the eldest of the lads during the events of Ravioverse and generally the leader of the group.
Fun Fact: This man is an Actual Father. He married his Hilda (Comet) and their children’s names are Aurora and Aster.
Tumblr media
Our third is Sylvan (Hyrulean counterpart: The Hero of Men), although you won’t be seeing him for a good long while since he doesn’t travel with the main group. He’s fantastic at twisting words to his advantage, but absolutely loathes telling lies.
Fun Fact: The fairies that he dealt with during his adventures weren’t nearly as nice as the ones you see in games. He used the pseudonym Sylvan before meeting any of the Ravios out of necessity.
Tumblr media
Vex! He’s the Hero of the Four Sword’s counterpart with a strong preference for shadow magic over anything else. He doesn’t remember much about his life before being brought to Hyrule by Ganon, but he’s working on accepting that he has an identity unrelated to Link. His magic comes from the Dark Mirror, but once he was sent back to Lorule after being defeated by the hero, he shattered the mirror on Lorule’s side so he wouldn’t have to go back ever again.
Fun Fact: He has a friendship bracelet and you will hear about it.
Tumblr media
Things get spicey now because we have three universes/timelines to get into, starting with Viola (aka as Frost or Rime depending). He’s one of three counterparts to the Hero of Time and was the only one out of the VoS Trio to successfully save Lorule during their era.
Fun Fact: His girlfriend’s a swamp witch.
Tumblr media
The second of The Hero of Time’s counterparts, Space (aka Blaze or Flare). He came close to saving Lorule during his era, but ultimately failed in his final battle when the Sovereign Rod split right in his face; the scar is a result of the light magic that exploded from the rod.
Fun Fact: The circumstances surrounding the split of the Sovereign Rod left Space with an intense fear of forests. He greatly prefers not entering them at all, but if he must, he is constantly on edge.
Tumblr media
The third member of the VoS Trio and Time’s last Lorulean counterpart is nicknamed Flow (aka Gust or Zephyr). He vanished halfway through his quest, thus unable to finish and save the kingdom; instead, he ended up becoming the Dark Link fought during Ocarina of Time.
Fun Fact: He struggles to tell the difference between dreams and reality. He collects small, tangible objects to remind himself that he is not trapped in a blue void anymore.
Tumblr media
As you may be able to guess, Shade is a Twili and the Hero of Twilight’s counterpart; his era follows after the Vanished Universe (aka Flow’s). He actually doesn’t have much of any combat experience due to the nature of his quest, but he’ll have a chance to learn. He forged a soul link with Space so that he could travel freely outside of the Twilight Realm.
Fun Fact: Great at politics; terrible at acting.
Tumblr media
Born a pirate and a master navigator and sailor, Compass is the hero of the Great Sea (Hyrulean counterpart: The Hero of Winds). His era follows after the Successful Universe (aka Viola’s).
Fun Fact: He’s got friends in odd places. He calls on them when he needs an extra set of hands. (Or eyes. Or blades.)
Tumblr media
Sketch is the original Ravio from A Link Between Worlds and thus The Hero of Legend’s counterpart; his era follows after the Failed Universe (aka Space’s). He actually does have combat experience but avoids combat at all costs for a variety of reasons.
Fun Fact: He has more than one reason to keep that hood of his on, even after ALBW.
Tumblr media
Atlas is our darling angel boy the young Prince of Lorule and the younger brother to Princess Hilda (nicknamed Historia); his counterpart, of course, is the Hero of Hyrule (aka Zelda 1 and 2). He actually has the most traveling experience out of the boys, though he’s surprisingly tight-lipped about most of what he went through.
Fun Fact: He has a debilitating fear of mirrors.
Tumblr media
This man is a tank and the Ravio from Hyrule Warriors, aptly nicknamed as Battler. He wasn’t always a fighter, but once troubles began finding their way into Lorule, he was willing to do what he had to protect his home. You’ll start seeing posts about his adventure soon.
Fun Fact: Values unity above all else. If anybody starts trying to start something, he’ll put a stop to it immediately and try to force a resolution.
Tumblr media
Melior is the hero from 10,000 years before the eras of CotA and BotW. He’s a member of the Necroi––the Lorulean equivalent to the Zonai Tribe––and boy do we have lots to talk about when it comes to them. Besides that though, Melior, like Sylvan, also doesn’t travel with the main group so you won’t be seeing much of him for some time unless asked.
Fun Fact: He chose to stand guard over the Triforce in his era. He has more than one reason for doing so.
Tumblr media
The last of the lads is Warp, who is naturally the Hero of the Wild’s Ravio counterpart. He specializes in mechanics and has several tools and robots at his disposal, most of which he built himself with the help of his Princess Hilda (nicknamed Circuit).
Fun Fact: He’s superstitious; not only does he perform little rituals to make sure his machines are happy and run well, but he also is terrified of ghosts.

A brief explanation on all of your AUs
I-dude-fam- that's, that's a lot of AUs. So, so many AUs. I'm currently planning on making a massive text post for just my eternatus centric AUs. Do you want crossover ideas too??? You know what, I'll just start throwing AUs out here and if you want crossover concepts as well you can tell me. Buckle up, it's long post time.
Legend of zelda. Set in the downfall timeline, focusing on the hero of time. After being defeated, the goddesses bannish his soul to termina expecting his soul to be destroyed by majora. They didn't expect for him to not only defeat majora, but also absorb both majora's and the fierce deities essence. Now Link has crawled his way out of termina and has 3 things on his mind: tormenting ganon, killing ganon, and then picking a fight with the goddesses. Everyone is terrified.
Another one about majora's mask; majora is actually the goddesses of time, who has been driven mad by a curse.
Loftwings are still around post skyward sword. (I like loft wings, ok?)
Fandom: Loz. Setting: unspecific era. When link is born a shadow link manifests at the same time. The two view eachother as brothers. Through a series of events the two get adopted by a nice lade and are happy for many years. Events Happen^tm, Shadow's memories are wiped, Link is nowhere to be found, and somhow shadow has the triforce of courage. He doesn't know this. All he has from his past a a locket he can't open. He ends up living in the forest near where the master sword is. Shadow meets a young princess zelda, they become friends, one day zelda gets attacked by a boss monster, shadow draws the master sword to defend zelda. Now shadow is being forced to save the kingdom. Oh, btw shadow is a shy flustered mess and Fi is back.
I have been on the "fierce diety is a good dad" team since the first time I saw him, so you bet I have a gazilion AU ideas that all boil down to FD adopting link.
Speaking of fierce deity, AU where fierce gets revived in botw hyrule pre the calamity. He doesn't remember anything and takes of mercenary work. He's just a chill teen with a big magic sword who can casually kill boss monsters. Hyjinx insues.
Zonai fierce diety????
That one idea that started out a a plausible theory but then spiraled out of control into AU territory. No I'm not explaining that here, that would take way too much time. What I will say it the goddesses are evil and demise, majora, and the fierce deity were once a single godess that got shattered.
2 player botw. This was inspired by something I did with friends and will someday make a post about. When link wakes up in the shrine of resurrection, there's someone else in his head. That someone is majora. Both have lost their memories. Two chaos gremlins in one body, hyrule is not prepared for what is to come. Majora acts as Link's guide, as despite losing all of their memories Majora still has the extensive knowledge of a god. Also majora is dead set on restarting the post office in hyrule.
Botw au: the chosen hero is a shadow link. He is here to help zelda unlock her powers, be snarky, and vibe check both the calamity and the king.
Alright that's enough loz AUs, lets do other fandoms.
Detroit become human: connor is an android dog, was built much earlier, and saved Cole's life.
Skyrim: miraak was freed from Mora by a bigger scarier unidentified god. Said god gives miraak one order: protect the last dragon born.
Harry potter: through a series of events, Malfoy actually becomes friends with Harry, and both Snape and the Weasley family are petitioning to adopt Harry. (Seriously, what was Dumbledore thinking when he left harry with the dursley family???)
A few Pokemon AUs:
Due to a miscalculation and misunderstanding, team rainbow rocket abducts the galar champion thinking they are the villain of the region. The champion decides to role with it, plotting to destroy team rainbow rocket from the inside out.
Opal is actually a legendary pokemon who got turned into a human. Thus why she is an absolute cryptid.
Some traner/champion manages to find all of the legendaries/mythical pokemon that exist due to evil scientists and adopts ALL OF THEM (ie mewtwo, genesect, type:null, ect)
This list could go on and on, but I'm going to stop myself here.

Skyward Sword Zonai AU!
Meeting the Dragons! Link must prove himself to each of the dragon spirits so they will help him on his journey and he can claim their Secret Stones. Hopefully, with their power, he can muster up the ability to defeat a deity, Demise.
Lanayru is not impressed with how little he knows at first, being the spirit of Wisdom, and mourns that it must be a child on which they all rely to strike down such a powerful evil. Link gains her respect as he learns and grows along his journey.
Eldin only cares about those who prove themselves enough to be interesting to him, as most mortals are too weak and short lived for them to deem worthy of their attention. While he cares not for Link’s gentle character, he does respect his warriors nature and ability to enact ruthless ends on his enemies.
Faron is very kind after he is revived and finds a kinship with him as the spirit of Courage, standing up against impossible odds. He guides Link and admires his cleverness and daring, while appreciating Link’s respect to all innocent creatures around him.

Skyward Sword Zonai AU!
Finding Zelda and the heart of the Depths…
Impa and Grannie would still lead Zelda and Link through their respective journeys, the latent power of the gods building within them until they both are powerful enough to create the Secret Stones of Time and Spirit respectively to use against Demise.
When Zelda seals herself away, she creates the Light Roots all throughout the Depths to hold the Surface together, stopping it from succumbing to the evil rot Demise has used to slowly decay his prison in the earth and turn it into to a breeding ground for monsters.

Skyward Sword Zonai AU!
Sword Spirits!
Ghirahim drags Zelda to the Surface, and Link must team up with Fi to find her once again. Fi is much younger compared to Ghirahim, so she is curious about the Surface just like Link, though she’d probably also keep him from accidentally eating poisonous mushrooms or trying to pet dangerous wildlife. She slowly gains more and more knowledge and emotions over time as they become good friends!
Being sword spirits, their legs are bladelike and can dance through the air with ease like skaters on ice, and while they have no arms they can form one pair or many through magic.

Skyward Sword Zonai AU!
Since I love Skyward Sword, I thought I’d try and integrate the Zonai with the Skyloftians! Here’s some doodles of Link, Zelda, and a little bit of Groose.
The plot would begin in much the same way, I think. Link traveling the world and meeting the dragons trying to find Zelda, learning lessons and gathering the stones to use to defeat the evil god Demise bent on taking the power of the original Three Golden Goddesses for himself to rule all creation. Zelda is sealed in the Depths and using her power to drive away the rot slowly killing the light roots used to stabilize the land above so it doesn’t fall into the abyss.
The regions and the dragons would need some shuffling, but it’s a fun concept!

Consider: Happy mask salesman
Masks or faces seem to be a common thing in zonai jewelry, and the Hero’s Aspect item in totk looks like some sort of mask itself! There are plenty of interesting things that seem shrouded in mystery, from the Salesman with his many masks, the keatons whose faces are popular masks for children, the zonai sages and their masks, all the way to the twili with their fused shadow helm.
If the zonai were the ones raised to Skyloft, perhaps some of them never made it to the safety of the island and thus had to survive the devastation of the Surface in a different way.
Tumblr media
Perhaps in Hyrule there have long been interlopers among the people, hiding their true forms with strange magic…
