My husband is a sea lion?!

Driving on the rocky road in your quaint little coastal town of a place called Seaford, rolling hills swooshing by and the soothing sound of crashing waves could be heard as your carry on your drive. Whistling a soft tone to the music you had on shuffle glancing over at the expensive bags you were carrying home. Some moments fidgeting the shiny rock on your finger not containing the smile that broke through. Truthfully, today was the mark of your second anniversary with your husband ,Kaelan.

Remembering like it was yesterday, a dark night of crying on the bench for getting stood up for the upteenth time. Only getting asked out as a dare because you were deemed the “chubby“ or “fat“ girl. You never let it get to you before always wearing the curves and shape of your body with pride and never letting it dampen her spirit.But tonight you had felt that the guy this time was different. “hi, pretty mamas, whats a woman like you doing by herself?“ there he stood at 6’5 in a gray track suit with shaggy hair in his face. He slides onto the bench next to you after not getting a response.

“you know I should call the police?“ he lets out a long whistle looking over for your eyes to meet on directly. Watching you look at gim confusingly,“ because you stole my heart.“ letting out a snort and soft giggle at his corny joke. He smiles proudly, “if you give me your number i can promise to make that smile never falter.“ and the memory fades as you pull into the driveway.

Gathering the various of bags from

the floor of the passenger side and enter the cozy cottage. Closing the door you noticed an unusual silence that hung in the air. Curiosity mingled with concern, as you call out softly for kaelan only to have your heart drop at the sight of his abandoned clothes in the hallway. Breaths turning heavy and emotions raging wild. Slowly turning to anger as you dig through the hallway closet and find a baseball bat. Creeping to the door you let it creak as you inch it open ready to see thw sightnof another woman in your bed accompaning your husband. Yet nothing laid there but rose petals in shape of a heart and a gift bag. Inside was a jewlery box containing a necklace. Making your heart flutter. The sound of water splashing broke you out of your heartfilled trance. Seeing the bathroom door a jared. Rushing toward the bathroom dragging behind the baseball bat in your loose grip. Not expecting a scream to escape her body.

There, you find sitting in the bathtub a sea lion splashung water on its skin happily and merrily until it heard your scream making it use ita fins to cover its body with haste. Seeing yourndeath grip on your wooden weapon swinging it at him. “wait,y/n-“ it jumps out the tub as you scream louder at it being able to speak the human language. It slips and slides on the bathroom floor dodging you making you become a heaving and huffing mess. Before watching you in fear watching the scene of slipping occuring in front of it.

Groaning in pain you feel the back of your head to make sure no bleeding occurred. Only to feel a pillow placed underneathed you and the same ocean critter standing before you as its black doe eyes look upon your person in worry . heart racing as you came to a startling realization. Your husband, the man yoh had adored for years, was not who you thought he was. He was a sea lion, hidden beneath a human guise, waiting for the touch of water to reveal his true nature.

“kaelon?“ she asked after her revelation.

The critter nods its head and the feeling of

Confusion and disbelief washed over like the waves crashing against the shore behind the house . How could this be? How had you never noticed? Questions flooded your mind, and a mix of emotions swirled within ypu. But amidst the shock, an unexpected warmth filled her heart.

When you gazed into the sea lion's eyes, you witness fear, love ,and vulnerability. You saw the same soul you had fallen in love with, now wrapped in a different skin. And in that moment,you couldn’t speak a word Or question.

Blood and Bones - Chapter 9

Gareth stood in the monastery's yard, watching the refugees who had made their camp there. The war had been over for two years, and people still couldn’t rebuild their lives. It didn’t surprise him, none of that was something he had not seen, and the further one traveled into the night elves territory, the worse it got. He knew he was responsible for that, he had led the armies who caused all that, and he might have even killed the husbands of some of these widows. He felt guilt and, at the same time, didn’t. Gareth knew he had done his duty, but now the result of his actions was looking at him in desperation.

“You need to tell your brother about that.” The head nun was standing next to him, the woman dressed in all black, somehow suitable color for the sight in front of his eyes.

Gareth didn’t have a response for her. Kaelan was more than aware of what was happening in the country, but he could not do anything about it, at least not immediately. The damage the war and then Eawig’s regain had done to this kingdom was not something one could fix overnight. Gareth felt guilty, not because of the war. This thing had started long before he was even born, but for everything that happened after. He could have stopped it, and he didn’t.

“The king will know about your hardship.” It was a well-memorized response, one that gave people hope even if he wouldn’t share any of that with his young brother. Kealan had other problems to solve. Gareth reached for the purse on his belt and counted ten gold coins. “For the hardship for housing my men tonight.”

Kaelan Finds a Solution

Lithris has just gotten out of his Royal Guardsman armour when Iandral bursts into the barracks talking way too fast for anyone to catch the words. Telling the youth to take a deep breath and try again, the brunet eventually manages to convey his urgent message between breaths. "Captain Kaelan! Has ordered everyone! Of the Royal Guards! To meet up in the courtyard! Pronto!"

Exchanging confused glances with the other Guardsmen, Lithris sighs and shrugs as he herds everyone outside. This was just another oddity in a long line of oddities. Better to roll with the punches.

The courtyard is swarming with Guardsmen, it seems like absolutely everyone had indeed been called out. Captain Kaelan is pacing at the front of the congregation, his face emulating flashing thunderclouds. His silence has everyone whispering with each other and looking nervous, and someone has the bright idea of telling everyone to line up based on shift groups. When they've all stood in their neat lines for a while, the Captain finally speaks up.

"I have a new Training Excercise for you." He begins. Lithris can see several of the others straightening their backs. Oh dear. "In groups of eight on a four hour rotation, you are to capture and contain any and all animals on the castle grounds." Scandalized murmurs flare up, and is swiftly hushed away with a terrifying glare. When the Captain continues he's nearly hissing. "A black cat is of particular interest, but it can be mice or rats or even a crow. Use any tool, be eachothers' eyes and ears, be creative. I don't care how. Just. Do. It."

Someone raises their hand and asks about how the scheduling is gonna be set up forwards with regards to normal shifts and training when adding in this massive post, and nearly gets their head whipped off their shoulders from the Captain's fiery stare. It would apparently be taken care of and posted to the notice board in the barracks courtyard.

"Any other pertinent questions?" Now the Captain really is hissing. The faint sound of birdsong is the only answer he gets, everyone too intimidated to speak up. Not that there really was anything pertinent to ask about. He'd been quite clear, though the why of it was still elusive.

The Captain had started marching off when he suddenly turns on his heel, and stalks back to the front of the congregation. "Also. The Street Rat. The tall one. This applies to him as well! Capture. Him."

This time it's impossible to keep quiet and just accept it, and thus a cacophony of voices rises in both protest and confusion as to why they should be doing something so frivolous with their time. And teams of eight? Wasn't that a bit of an overkill?

The Captain sneers at them. "Come talk to me if it's too easy, otherwise I do not want to hear it. Just know that any guard who catches the boy will receive a boon of their choosing. Within reason."

That has the disatisfied mutterings turning excited instead. Well then.

The next day, the guards were abuzz with lively competitiveness, despite them looking and acting like absolute lunatics. The servants really didn't know what to make of it all. Chasing mice, carrying cages around, or even walking a badger on a leash. One memorable occasion that got gossipped heavily about was the time when the cat that Prince Ayal'aran tended to have around him got caught with a blanket. The team of three guardsmen literally tumbled over eachother in their attempt at re-catching it when it somehow struggled free and skittered off to the offended screeching of the guards. Before the three guards got to recover from the defeat, the Tall One of Prince Amreth's party of friends skidded down the hall from where the cat had disappeared looking harried and more bushy haired than usual, followed by a group of five more guards. The three cat chasers immediately got up to assist the new arrivals.

Upon catching sight of the three approaching, the teen rolls off to the side and slides in behind the curtains. Thinking they finally truly had the upper hand, the guards gloats a little between themselves with some jolly elbow knocking before they pull aside the curtains...only to curse up a storm when they find the space empty.

A while later when everyone's left to do work elsewhere, the curtains bulges and flutters as Wy tumbles out from the stone wall. He lies there sprawled out for a moment, staring at the ceiling, face scrunched up in a grimace that slowly changes into a giddy grin.

The Guard Captain had changed the rules of the game. Wy would have to think of ways to counter.

Staring down at the barracks courtyard, clutching at the railing of the balcony, Kaelan let's out a long relieved sigh. No new reports of ghostly activity had reached him in the past few days. The plan was working.

Still, the fact that a single druid rascal could elude his Guardsmen this well rankled. It was a sign that their normal training exercises needed thorough revision and improvement. Considering this, the boy was a blessing in disguise. Putting the Guardsmen under pressure to improve, while the real life stakes couldn't possibly be lower.

"A few little birds have told me of your sanity being questioned today." Ilira glides up to bump shoulders with him. "Care to shed some light on the situation?"

Kaelan shrugs and huffs, nodding down at the group of Guardsmen that just came running into the courtyard below. One carrying a cage with a single fat rodent, another with a chicken wrapped in a blanket tucked close to his chest, and the last one balancing a basket full of yellow little chicks. Ilira studies them for a moment with her brows slowly meeting in the middle. "I don't understand..."

Kaelan debates it to himself for a moment, then braces himself a bit as he explains the situation. Ilira's face goes on a journey through various conflicting emotions until amusement seems to outweigh the rest as she descends into uncontrollable chortles behind her palms in an attempt at holding back laughter.

A commotion erupts down in the courtyard. Someone is shouting something about a cat. Kaelan glances down, squinting. Indeed, one of the guards have appeared with a black cat wrapped in a blanket. But so has another guard. A third stumbles over with a black cat in a cage, the white bandages around his hands a stark contrast to his darker somewhat dishevelled uniform, joining the argument over which cat is the right cat.

“Ilira. Kaelan." Kaelan tears his gaze away from the source of his growing headache to greet Ayal'aran only to zero in on the creature nestled in his arms. Gold slitted eyes blinks lazily up at him, sporting the smuggest look he's ever seen on a cat. He can't stop himself from hissing an accusatory "you!" at it.

Ayal'aran's eyes widen comically, arms bunching up protectively around the cat, while Auree squeaks as she takes a step back and behind the prince.

The cat meows at him innocently. Kaelan seethes--Then there's another higher pitched meow from nearby. Followed by another meow, and another and another.

Dread crawls up Kaelan's back as he finally catches sight of the four little black furballs nestled in a cloth lined basket in Auree's arms.

That. Little. Shit.

Serenity

Been reworking Kaelan's character and backstory :) I had an illustration assignment pending for uni so I took the opportunity to do some concept art of him. His flight feathers are clipped here, which is why his wings look a bit smaller than usual.

The horse-goat critters are called Tercoros, they are domesticated animals that can be ridden and provide the mountain communities of Teotlanco with milk and wool. They are much slower than horses, but have better endurance and overall health (the wonders of not walking in a single finger...)

Ok, I have a hard time truly limiting this to a few answers and I am answering this question way too often. I just can’t pick a few favorites.

So I’m going to make a bit of a MASTER LIST and will update this list as I feel is necessary for people who really want to know what my tastes in music are. I have too many artists I enjoy for different reasons.

I already know there are lots of artists I’m forgetting and will have to mention later.

A few people on this list don’t have a physical discography, or their music exists in a foreign language, so you might find a few of them a bit of a challenge to locate on your own, if you do not already know where or how to go look.

Siege-o-ween Day 6!

‘She’s an angel’,Yumiko thought the first time she laid eyes on her. Her. Nienke Meijer, the newest engineer that arrived at Rainbow.

Looking back, she should have noticed it a lot sooner. The way Nienke had talked about the existence of God, the likeness of her and Mark when it came to the doings of Him, the arguments she had with the devout Olivier. She talked about it as if she had been there, seen the actions He had taken, the curses and blessings He had thrown upon humanity.

The way she got along with the explorer, Sanaa, explaining the histories and cultures of far off lands despite, on her travel records, never travelling there in the first place. The ways she had looked at the sky in distaste and longing when she first asked Yumiko to join her on the rooftop.

With a tempting smile on her lips as she chose to explain the constellations instead of whatever had haunted her living among them.

The mission that she barely survived and yet, Nienke came out of it injured yet recovered nonetheless. A horrible mission that no human would have survived, discounting Zofia of course, even then one would not have come out of it without career ending injuries.

The cool suburban winds made Yumiko shiver even in her jacket, as she made her way to the back trench of the building. The sleek building towering over her was darkened, blending in with its surrounding of dim lights and various abandoned family owned businesses. If it weren’t for the intel provided by the one and only Aria de Luca, ‘infiltrator extraordinaire” according to Nienke.

The admiration and relationship between Aria and Nienke made her jealous sometimes, the easygoing way they talked to each other and their ‘secret’ language that Yumiko didn’t understand. It was Latin, as she later heard from Adriano.

Shaking the personal emotions away, Hibana put her gun on low alert and checked the window, jumping in when her partner gave her the all clear to jump in. Her partner, Maxim “Kapkan” Basuda had been holding the small site with his Entry Denial Devices and gave her a gruff, “About time you got here.” as she vaulted in.

No more time for quips however, she had to hot drop to the basement, clear it, and disable the security cameras for the other attacker who would infiltrate the top floor on the north side.

“Dropping in!”

She landed on the cold white tiles, or, at least that was what she expected.

She landed on a pile of skeletons, time to panic as she realised quickly that they were made of plastic. She could tell from the clacking sound of the bones, hollow and not only that, smooth to the touch.

The sound made from her abrupt fall as well as the hissing of the X-kairos quickly bought the attention of the festive terrorists. Dressed as frankenstein (the doctor) was one wearing a gas mask, who seemed to have the highest ranking. With one fell swoop of his hand and a shout of

“Surround her!”

The terrorists, each wearing what seemed to be the reverse bear traps from SAW, sprinted around the SAT operative. All seemed to be in the opposition’s favour, until an impact round was heard from above and they all looked up. Taking this chance, Hibana shot at the doctor, downing him and proceeding to lob a bullet in the others head. Her Type-89 quickly ran out of shots with its measly 21 bullet magazine. As she quick swapped to her Bearing-9, she turned the her final enemy behind, whipping it out and aiming for their chest-

“...kuso”

The moment of painful regret of forgetting to reload her machine pistol was quickly forgotten, as Maxim jumped down and landed a knife on the target’s head. The terrorist stared with rage, but quickly started to panic, his screams were muffled as he pulled out the knife from his, now-missing, eye.

“No, no, nonononono-”

The whirring of a loaded spring was made more evident with each pull, the tick tock sound emanating from the hoodie wearing being getting louder, and like a jack in the box.

The skin on his face opened up, jaw slamming up and snapping grotesquely. The body fell to the floor and the shaking of the body had Maxim shooting it with the SASG-12 to put the poor boy out of his misery.

“What a cruel way to go. Is it not?”

The Doctor rose up behind them, despite wearing a blood soaked shirt and Hibana being very certain that she had hit them on the side of the neck, they seemed perfectly fine.

“That one was a failed experiment if a Russian got to him”

The intonation made Kapkan seeth,

“Do not insult us.”

The bullet from his PMM sidearm barely pierced the skin of the Doctor’s trachea, as they pulled it out of their skin. Their eyes contained mirth and a sense of wonderful curiosity when they turned and raised both their arms in the air,

“If you two are here, that must mean that the third party is upstairs yes? Oh I certainly hope it's Iana, I haven’t seen her in centuries!”

That struck a chord within Yumiko’s heart,

They knew.

“She has escaped from me so many times… the bird should have her wings clipped. No, perhaps I shall remove them entirely, rip them into shreds like I did with her last family. Maybe I’ll go after Iona after. Yes. That is what I shall do.” The Doctor clenched his fists in conviction , turning to look back at them.

“Worry not, my only target is her. Feel free to leave before I clip her wings and we die in a fiery explosion together.”

Maxim was very much done with the Doctor’s talk, but the bullets dealt no damage. Tactical retreat was a term to exist no?

“Hibana, call the operative, we will be leaving”

“But the mission-”

“Live to fight another day, no one lives nearby anyways”

The Doctor laughed.

“Live, live to tell the tale of how you escaped Kaelan. The Hunter of Angels and Doctor of the deranged.”

The duo from the basement left through the tunnel, but when they got out and tried to contact Nienke, the third operative of the mission.

Connection lost.

The beeping of the phone was not a good sign, not with Iana still on the top floor of the building with no way to get down. Hibana was worried, Iana was stuck in there, with a psychopathic unkillable creature that was hunting her.

Now that she had time to think to herself, maybe she could sort this out in her head.

‘So, there is a being that is unkillable, hunts angels, puts people in freaking death traps and proclaims themself as a doctor. They’re hunting Iana, or what they know as Iana, as well as an “Iona”. So this means Iana is an angel? In a literal sense? We need to find this “Iona” and put whoever they are in our custody for their protection. What in the world did this turn out to be-”

Before she could complete her train of thought with the profanity, an explosion that sent the smell of smoke through the tunnel into her nostrils knocked her out of it. Kapkan stood beside her, holding up a blue phone that defenders had when detonating C4. The smile under his mask couldn’t be seen, his hands pushing the device back into his coat as he dusted himself off with the other.

The crackling of Hibana’s phone had her pausing in her silent scream at Kapkan, Iana’s slightly panicky voice could be heard through the speakers,

“What was that explosion? Where are you all, I can’t find you on the radar, are you both outside now?”

“Yes, there was someone inside telling us to leave, They’re going after you Iana, get out immediately. There might be explosives planted-”

“This is unfortunate but, I am surrounded with explosives and it appears they have all been armed to detonate in 3 minutes. I suppose this is where we say our goodbyes.”

That was the last thing Yumiko had expected Nienke to say, the word goodbye was not something that she wanted to say, not yet. She had so many questions that were yet to be answered, but only one was truly tickling at the back of her mind.

“Nienke, are you an angel?”

“Because I look like I fell from the heavens? You’ve used that before Yumi, and I don’t think now is the time for pick up lines.”

“I meant, legitimately.”

“I’ve told you yes every time you asked Yumi, you just never took it in a literal sense.”

A blast could be heard from the east wing of the building, the rustling of Iana’s shirt could be heard as she flew up the stairs.

“Sorry Yumi, I’m going to have to cut this one short.”

“Wait-”

The flatline beep of the hung up call sent dread into Yumiko’s heart. Maxim took notice of her heading back down the tunnel and rushed to pull her back.

“Are you crazy? This place is about to explode, calm down. She will hopefully find a way out by herself. You may be shocked but if that clouds your judgement what good are you.”

“Excuse me. I just found out my best friend and love of my life isn’t human and you’re criticizing me for being shocked?!”

“Well yes, I just specified that.”

Kapkan had to carry the thrashing SAT operator over his shoulder as he ran to their emergency transport vehicle, leaving Iana alone on the rooftop to fight.

The rooftop was chilly, but Nienke never cared much for temperatures. The Doctor jumped up the hatch she opened for med-vac, a smile plastered in his eyes as he whipped out an engraved knife and pointed it at her.

“Angel Iana, I’m not going to kill you today. I’ll just take what I need and be on my merry way.”

“Oh gee thanks Kaelan, you’re not going to get it that easy.”

“Show me those wings, and I’ll show you my claws. A fair fight is all I ask for.”

Naivety.

A word that could be used to describe Iana at this moment. She kneeled to the ground as her body contorted, bone sprouting from her back as blood pooled around her shoulder blades, the liquid coating her feathers and turning them black.

She was so naive, she had thought she would be given a chance to turn, a chance for fair fight with the hunter.

She was wrong.

The knife went in deep, crimson blood spilling over as Nienke fell to the ground, unable to move from the excruciating pain.

“You honestly thought I was going to fight fair. Ha, you never learn.”

The blood they collected with the knife was sucked into a test tube using a mechanism. Kaelan giggled in glee at the sight of it, squealing and jumping around on the roof.

“That was your blood, Angel. I still require your wings for my project.”

The knife shifted as they sliced back down her back, and she fought the pain in a burst of rage. Jumping onto them and ripping the vial out of their hands and kicking them to the side,

“I’ll never allow you to find a way back to heaven, Kaelan.”

The excited giggles from Kaelan ceased, they looked at her with rage and despair.

“I have lost so much because of you. I am stuck here because of YOU.”

Kaelan let out wings of their own, gray and torn apart, yet still able to fly for short distances.

“This is your fault.”

The fight was anticlimactic, as there was little to no fight at all. Iana sidestepped when Kaelan threw a punch at her, jumping off the roof and letting her wings spread. She tried maintaining her focus as she aimed for the vehicle, but her eyes and wings were weakened from the bloodloss. Kaelan has chased after her, but as they went to celebrate an early victory, having dug a fire poker into her back, they were struck down with a kick as Iana flew up and dropped down on them.

“Goodbye.”

Nienke could fester no more energy as she glided towards the moving vehicle, barely able to land on top of it as the building exploded in the distance. Hibana and Kapkan had heard the drop, and as Maxim hit the brakes and Yumiko turned around. Nienke pulled out the fire poker through her chest, holding it up in a way one would admire a spear, wings dark yet contrasting the starry night.

“How’s that for a halloween night?”

The smirk fell alongside her body and the jaws of the other two operators as she collapsed onto the back of the truck.

Kaelan Makes Progress

More days pass, and the suspicious lack of "ghostly" activities continue. It gets quiet to the point where the prevailing rumours move away from ghosts and poltergeists to gossip over Prince Ayal'aran and Auree's budding romance.

Kaelan doesn't quite know what to think of it, but he absolutely won't believe any of it without concrete proof.

As it is, he has other more important things to think about. Like lamenting the sheer amount of time he's been wasting on this endeavor of his that just felt more and more ridiculous as the days passed. What was he even doing these rounds of the castle for anyhow? It had gotten quiet after all.

He spots Miss Auree unsubtly sneaking her way out into the gardens. From his vantage point, a window three floors up, he watches her as she largely ignores the footpaths while carrying her cloth covered basket through the bushes. The tall neck of a bottle pokes out on one end. Suspicious. But well within her right...

Still. She had shown an antagonistic interest in the Rascal, and also Prince Ayal'aran...maybe...?

When she finally slips out of sight, he makes his way down as well, following the trail she made. It's far from difficult.

When he finally does spot her again, she's no longer alone.

The little remote pavilion is nearly overgrown. It's obvious the castle gardeners have had other things on their mind than the upkeep of areas that normally see little use. Yet Ayal'aran seems comfortable where he sits on the vine covered stone bench, the usual cat pressed to his thigh, purring loud enough for Kaelan to hear from his hiding place behind a large rose bush several yards away.

"...next time it's your turn to go to the kitchens, allright? I can't handle the questions alone! It feels like my face is about come off with how hot they get!" Miss Auree is saying.

Ayal'aran chuckles, helping her unload the basket's contents onto the stone table between them. "What kind of questions?"

"You know what kind!"

"I really don't..."

Auree groans. "You know, the teasing kind!"

"Teasing you about what?"

Auree gives him a look. "About you. Little Prince. Dear Fiancé. Are you really saying they don't tease you AT ALL?" Whatever look Ayal'aran is giving the girl, it must be unsatisfactory, as she nearly shrieks with frustration. "That's it. Next time, and every other time after that, it'll be YOUR job to get the food and drinks! I'll handle the--the Cat!" She declares.

"Is that really necessary? I'm sure they'll stop doing that eventually if you just keep at it." Ayal manages through giggles, then hurriedly ducks out of the way of the pillow aimed at his face.

Huh. Maybe the rumours of the two finally hitting it off well were founded in truth after all.

Kaelan is about to turn away to give the budding couple some privacy when his eyes catches something that makes him do a double take.

One moment the cat is there. The next it's shape is rapidly expanding into an infuriatingly familiar mop of bushy haired teenager who takes more space than the stone bench can hold. With an undignified yelp the boy tips off the bench, followed by a groan accompanying the thud as he lands.

Auree snorts a most undignified laugh.

Ayal'aran coughs his own behind a palm. "Are you allright, Wy?" He asks.

The boy huffs back at him, unamused.

"Well, now that you're awake, how about lunch?" Auree suggests, as if the cat turning into Wy is a normal occurrence.

But of course it is. To her. Druid alcove. The conniving little liar was a Druid. It explained everything. Why the little shit was so difficult to catch. How he'd disappear so easily.

All the instances where he'd personally interacted with that black cat comes to mind as well as he watches the three chatter amicably over the food, and he can feel the rage bubble to the surface. He turns on his heel and stalks away to cool off before he finds himself doing something exceedingly stupid.

Wy Talks

"Are you alright?" Ilira asks as she happens upon a thoroughly aggravated Kaelan heaving a sigh.

"Just. Fine." Kaelan grits out as he massages his temples. "The last few weeks have been a bit...rough. That's all." Not to mention the absolute exploding fireball of a reveal he'd witnessed earlier.

"So I've heard." Ilira comments lightly. "I'm not usually privy to the servants' rumour mill, but even I have heard a few. Why, my personal maid even waxed poetic about your ghost exterminating prowess. That howling ghost down the hall from the library disappeared rather fast after you went to take a look."

Kaelan's eyebrow twitches. He's known her for long enough to know what face she makes when she's holding back laughter, and that is just the face she's making.

"I'm glad..." He has to pause to rearrange his face out of a sneer. "...amusement to the Princess." He grumbles eventually.

She hums in agreement. "Well, don't let your...exploits distract you from your normal duties, Captain Kaelan." She tuts teasingly as she walks past him towards the throne room.

He crosses his arms at her receding back.

Normal duties...

He's still thinking hard when the Cat comes circling his shins later the same day, for the first time in nearly a week. Unbeknownst to Kaelan, Wy has finally gotten some things off his chest, and is thus itching to reinitiate the shenanigans. Kaelan on his part is so off kilter he impulsively grabs the Cat by the scruff of its neck, raising it to eye height to scowl into confused gold slitted eyes.

"You." He nearly hisses.

The Cat yowls pitifully at him.

"Don't you even try that with me now." He sneers. "I know exactly what you are, and you are a Menace. You might as well just drop the act, right now, as I have Finally. Caught. You. And this time you're not getting away."

Just as the Cat mrrps indignantly, Kaelan finally notices the red haired servant watching him with eyes as big as saucers. Frozen in her confusion as to what in the world has come over the usually uptight Captain, she presses the laundry basket in her hands to her chest with a squeak when their eyes meet.

"D-don't mind me, Master Kaelan. I-I'll just--" She begins, then scampers off down the hall. A few pieces of laundry jostles out of the basket in her haste, and she nearly trips in her attempt at picking them up speedily, but she does disappear from sight in the end, flustered out of her mind.

Kaelan returns his attention to the Cat, who is...pouting up at him? He narrows his eyes at it.

"Allright. Time to turn back boy. We need to talk."

The Cat considers it for a moment, then suddenly he's got a hand full of fabric instead of fur, and a very tall teenager meeting his ireful stare with a carefully neutral one of his own.

A tense silence stretches as the two try to negotiate the terms of this conversation with eyes alone. Then Wy shrugs. "I won't run. You caught me. Rules are rules."

Kaelan almost sneers as he lets go of the Menace's shirt a bit more violently than probably necessary. "Oh, so you have rules you follow. Would be great if you informed everyone else of them?"

"But that's no fun, Mister Guard Captain Sir. Half of the fun lies in you figuring out the rules."

"Is this a game to you?" Kaelan has to make a concerted effort to not deck the boy.

Wy eyes Kaelan's white knuckles, face still infuriatingly neutral. "Obviously."

Dragging in a deep shaky breath in an effort to put a lid on his building anger, Kaelan turns on his heel, letting his gaze skim down the empty hallway. Then something occurs to him, and he whirls back around again.

Wy blinks leisurely at him, still in the same spot as before. "Oh. You thought I'd run?" He glances over his shoulder as he points his thumb down the hallway the other way. "I will if you're done."

"I'm not done." If he spits the words a bit too fast, he's way beyond caring. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but you are bored. Yes? That is why you've been doing--" Kaelan waves his hand in Wy's general direction, "all this."

Wy pouts thoughtfully, then nods. "Pretty much."

"So as long as you are not bored you'll stop being a menace to the servants."

The boy takes another moment to think, then shrugs again. "I mean. If you catch me, maaaaybe I'll stop. For the day."

Kaelan has to turn around again so as to not grab the boy and shake him. "What--hey, where do you think you're going!? I'm not done with you!"

"But I'm done with you!" Wy shouts over his shoulder as he jumps onto the windowsill of an open window.

"We're four floors up!"

Wy flashes him a grin as he makes a show of falling out of the window. Kaelan's string of curses are drowned out by the sound of howling wind and flapping wings.
