poor akira… he has a crush on you and it’s painfully obvious for ANYONE who spends a few minutes with the both of you.

the way he’s always by your side, making sure you’re okay and happy, sharing his food and the volume of your favorite manga. how he’s willing to punch to death however disrespects you, and how he just plainly ignores any confessions he receives from other girls, only saying he already likes someone else.

so obviously ryo knows. and while akira’s crush on you is as obvious as the sun on the sky in day time, ryo keeps it more reserved. however, he tells akira about it, because he knows his friend knows him well enough to at least suspect it.

asuka also doesn’t trying hiding his feelings from you. he’s always taking you on expensive restaurants, buying the most expensive items in your amazon wishlist, always hanging around with you and expending time with you even as he claims to “hate going out” and enjoy “his time alone”.

while ryo invites you over to his mansion to help you study (even if he doesn’t take that particular class, he can help), akira pass by in the late afternoon to pick you up to have som fun and de-stress. he usually invites ryo too because the blonde still his best friend. and even if he agrees to go, he will have to go alone in his car as akira takes you on his motorcycle.

and while akira is always watching the animes and movies you like with you, gossiping and eating snacks; ryo and you can read together, leaning on each other in a comfortable silence. later, you will convince him to try this new recipe you found online since his kitchen is really big and well-equipped.

but both will do skincare routines with you (even if ryo may complain), comfort you whenever you sad or burned-out and you better believe they will absolutely team up to destroy whoever is intentionally a dick to you.

But once you leave and go to Ryo, kissing his neck and looking back at him with a smirk on your face, he immediately feels like there’s competition.

So since you ship Ryou x Akira x Miki x Miko in your own devilman verse, what is their relationship dynamic like?

Oh wow, well, hmm - so I kind of imagine a universe where Ryou and Akira manage to best Michael and somehow bargain with/convince god for him to restore/reset Earth and let them be to govern their own affairs. How and the exact details I’m still thinking up; after all, not much is known about god in the Devilman verse other that he is callous and vindictive towards his creations/subjects. What would convince this prideful god to demands complete obedience/subservience from and power over his subjects to stop tormenting Satan for his rebellion, relinquish his hold over Earth, and allow those who have defied him and that he deems unfit creations to exist on a world contrary to his design? I don’t really know: maybe he respects the strength/power it took to defeat Michael, maybe he’s lost interest in Earth over more prominent matters he’s got going on in the universe, maybe he’s capable of showing mercy, maybe he’s just gotten bored or frustrated with torturing Satan and doing all the resets/timeloops, or maybe a combination of the above or something else entirely. I’ll work it out eventually.

But on to the Ryou x Akira x Miki x Miko dynamic, which what I’m really all about. So the four of them come together in this timeline (set at about 2020 or where we are now in real life) at the point before the apocalypse starts with Akira and Ryou holding memories from previous loops - in Ryo’s case many many more than Akira given their capacity as an angel. Ryo has changed/learned a lot from all these loops, especially from their time living as Asuka and Jun, and is ready to yielding control over and making compromises/working with both individuals dear/known to him - mainly Akira but also others like Miki, Miko, and anyone Akira will vouch for - as well as humanity as a whole. It’s a huge undertaking to get demons, humans, and devilmen to do-exist, but it helps that only a select few who’ve been directly involved in causing the previous apocalypses from earlier loops hold those memories.

That’s a whole other post though, so now that we’ve got a vague setting, back to the relationship dynamic. Ryou is obviously deeply in love with Akira and now doing their best to respect him and his autonomy and wants more - and they’ve even learned to extend this care and consideration to others. Akira, being the person he is, acknowledges and accepts Ryou’s efforts - partially because he’s ready for peace and doesn’t want to risk starting another conflict, but also because he does still care for his dear friend and to be able to have that relationship again and in a world where Miki and humanity is also saved does bring him happiness. The beginnings of Ryou and Akita’s official romantic/sexual relationship are slower in developing and navigated step by step. Obviously there’s a lot of issues and feelings to work past, but Ryou has learned both patience and humanity, and their fear of losing Akira again helps them maintain respect for what Akira needs/wants and to let things develop on mutual terms rather than trying to force the relationship.

Akira and Miki on the other hand start dating fairly quickly, as the two already have and established dynamic and relationship based off of care for and understanding of each other, and Akira is beyond over-joyed and grateful to have Miki alive and with him given his memories of what’s happened to her in previous loops. During this time, Miki and Miko remain close friends, but with Miko silently angsting over Miki being in a relationship with someone else and continuing to swallow down her feelings. But Miki knows Miko and her feelings, and sooner than later when the time is right Miki breaches the subject with her. Miko confesses her feelings and Miki affirms her own feelings of love towards Miko and her willingness to reciprocate that sort of relationship with Miko. They inform Akira that they’re going to start dating, and he’s kind of taken aback but after Miki confirming that she still also loves him and doesn’t want to end their current relationship he goes along with it fine.

Akira gets on with and knows Miko well, and her can sense her care for and desire to protect Miki. He also knows of both all the very pure and genuine love Miki has, as well as her stubbornness in doing what she wants, and he understands, accepts, and loves her for these things and the way she can love both him and Miko - as well as all the love and care and understanding she holds for others in platonic and familial ways. Akira and Miko make great friends and fellow devilmen/Miki lovers, and Miki is Miki: full of love and spirit and well-able to care for both herself and her two partners.

Meanwhile Ryou: are they jealous of Miki and her close and loving relationship with Akira given the distance and difficulties still between Akira and themself? Oh, absolutely; but, as I’ve said earlier, they’ve really changed and grown a lot. They have the understanding/capacity to consider Akira’s feelings, how he cares for and treasures Miki, and to respect that. They even have come to be able to acknowledge and appreciate Miki herself as a unique individual (eventually even leading into love and romantic/sexual feelings/relations between the two). It’s part of their realization of how unjust and callously they had been viewing humans, and part of their experiences and understandings from living as Asuka/Jun with this new perspective. In fact, Ryou is learning to see all humans in terms of being unique persons rather than pieces in a condemnable and unworthy whole as a species. One of my favourite aspects of this ship is the four of them coming together and really developing mutual love and understanding between each other, and especially for Ryou that’s a really big and special process. They teach and help each other to be people, to be better people, to be the best person/version of themselves that they can be. They navigate this new existence, where they are free to make their own fate and shape their own world. They have hot devilman sex-

Ahem; so yeah, that’s kind of a general gist of the dynamic and universe I imagine for them? Um, not super well formed but it’s an idea which I really love. And that’s one of the main reasons I consume stories: to generate and enjoy ideas that I love and make me happy :)

—Akira is the biggest simp. He has several romantic notions about what a relationship should be like, and he’s excited to finally have someone to shower with love. Between his teenage years, when people would rarely glance his way romantically, and the years he spent adjusting to life as a devilman, when he was more focused on stopping the impeding apocalypse and holding onto his unrequited crush on Miki, he hasn't had much time to indulge in these sentiments. If you two are in a serious relationship, he is such a gentleman. He kneels down to tie your shoes for you, carries you on his back when you're too tired or drunk to do so yourself, and dotes on you when you're sick.

—That's not to say Akira is boring and predictable though. Akira brings a (shall we say) devilish character into any relationship. He's hyperactive (partly due to his demon side), and always suggesting you two go on motorcycle rides, or skinny dipping, or hiking, or camping. One of his favorites is: transforming into his devilman form and carrying you around in the skies. He's certainly not a man for the faint of heart.

—If you're more of a homebody, Akira can (begrudgingly) stay at home, but he will be competing with your phone or the TV for your attention. He's also not someone you can trust to sit still while you're taking selfies. The amount of times he's photobombed your photos is criminal (and for a handsome guy, Akira is 10/10 at making the most stupid faces).

—The biggest cuddle bug. This man acts like he'll die if he goes a day without touching you. He cuddles up to you anywhere, in any position. In public, he tones it down a bit, but he's still touchy—he has his arm flung over your shoulder loosely or his hand on your thigh under the table. In private, he enjoys being the big spoon, being able to slip behind you and hold you and remind himself that you're very much present in his arms. He's an absolute menace as an overnight cuddler though. He flings his arms over you and latches onto you, and you have to pry yourself out of his grasp if you need to move (it turns out devilmen also have unnatural strength in their sleep.) Not to mention he snores like crazy.

—Of course Akira notices that you borrow his hoodies, but rather than fuss about it, he lets you have them. He likes the way his clothes look on you. It also feeds into his possessive nature as a devilman. That is, until all his hoodies have mysteriously disappeared, and by then he has to confront you—not because he's mad, but because he finds it adorable.

"Is that mine?" he asks, knowing full well the answer as he curls an arm around you. The two of you are watching some mindless movie on the couch. "Maybe." "It's black." He points out. "I have black clothes, too." He raises a brow, grinning. "Doesn't look like your size." "I sized up. It's comfier." "I think..." He narrows his gaze. "I can still see the tag on it. Only Ryo spends that much on clothes. You sure that's not the sweater he gave me?" You bat your eyelashes at him innocently. Akira laughs, a full-bodied sound, as he hugs you to him. "It's not like I care. It looks good on you. You can keep it."

—You ask to use his phone one day and are surprised to see his lock screen—the most unflattering candid of you that you can fathom. You may or may not even be asleep in the photo, clearly drooling a bit. You pester him to change it, but he shrugs it off. It's not even a good quality picture, because when has Akira ever had the patience to take a good photo. But to your surprise he pockets his phone with a grin, shrugs casually and says. "But it's you. So it's perfect." (Still the sheer thought of how many people have seen his lock screen with you on it? Horrifying.)

—A very protective boyfriend, but it's honestly because he's aware of the dangers out there, whether that's other demons or humans with ill intentions. He doesn't demand to know where you are, but he will ask who you're going with, just to make sure you'll be safe. And honestly if he wanted to figure out where you are, Ryo tracks your phone so it would be a simple favor. He checks in on you throughout the night. Akira seems to have a sixth sense for knowing just when you need him the most, whether that's him showing up to stave off the advances of some weirdo or showing up as your designated driver. When it comes to demon hunting though, he can be obstinate. You're the last person he wants to put in danger, therefore you're sitting your ass at home.

—Speaking of.... as much as he’s drawn to the thrill of danger, you on the other hand will not be in any danger. He definitely doesn't let you walk home at night. He's offers to drive you everywhere, even though it involves his motorcycle. With you, it's not an option—he shoves the motorcycle helmet onto you despite your protests. What about Ryo? you ask. Ryo doesn't matter, a concussion wouldn't stop him from being the world's biggest smartass. You on other hand? He's all too aware of how much more fragile you are, how easily you bleed or bruise. And he'll be damned if he loses you.

—It takes awhile for your friends to come around to Akira due to his intimidating appearance. Not to mention the rumors that surround him due to his unique acquaintances ("That guy in all white he hangs out with... Is he part of the yakuza? Why does he carry guns around?" is one you often hear.) But Akira is a very much a Rottweiler boyfriend--scary on the outside, and an absolute sweetheart on the inside. After seeing him dote on you and show up to drive you home after work and after crazy nights out, they warm up to him. It helps that once you get to know Akira, he's really a dork.

—He namedrops you so many times in casual conversation that all his friends and family know about you before you’ve even met them. Before you’re even together honestly. When Akira has a crush, it's painfully obvious to everyone around him. You'll even catch Miki's parents asking if you're the person Akira keeps talking about, to which he replies with an embarrassed, "I-It's not like that at all!"

—The trauma of losing his parents has made him a bit paranoid about how quickly things can go south. When he's going somewhere he always makes sure to give you a goodbye hug and tell you how much he loves you. You never know.

—He wants to be the first to hear about your achievements and your successes. Honestly, he wished he had someone growing up to talk to about those things—the Makimuras were the closest he had, and of course he's thankful for their support and care, but it's not quite the same. He's your #1 fan.

—He literally hates having fights. The type of guy who starts tearing up if y'all have a real dispute. When things get too heated, Akira disengages, goes into a different room to calm down. The last thing he wants to do is fling hurtful words at you when he doesn't mean it. It also helps to calm down his tears.

—He would love to start a family with you. While he wouldn't want to pressure you to have one, he's ready. He's been ready. He's always wanted a family of his own. While the Makimuras practically raised him, the absence of his parents in his life really made him crave a stable family. Even just adopting a dog that the two of you can raise would bring Akira joy.

—He's a sentimental guy. He holds onto materialistic things that you give him--a sweater that's already started showing holes, a bracelet that's missing half its beads. Part of it stems from the fact that he struggles to let go. Even the shoes his mom would gift him every year, Akira tried holding onto them as long as he could.

—Akira attaches places to people. He doesn't remember things by their actual names, but refers to them as "our song," or "our restaurant," or “the first place we met” etc. It's quite endearing; it shows how often you are on his mind.

Story I'm most proud of: Outside of my multi-year bubbline sagas I’ve been working on for ages, I am pretty proud of Finding Pride. I’ve always loved some of the queer headcanons in the Adventure Time fandom, and I wanted to do my own story about it.

Funniest: Maybe Unfortunate Interruption? I don’t write a ton of humour/comedy.

Kinkiest: My Bubbline Kinktober is literally PWP with some hella kinky shit and switching.

Saddest: Wicked Stirrings is the most intense/angsty, but in terms of this year, it’s probably Human Maintenance.

Least popular: The Missing Scene, an extremely short Devilman fanfic I originally wrote ages ago and cleaned up/polished to post. I’m not mad about it TBH, it’s fairly short and angsty without much payoff.

Favorite opening line(s): Maybe this is cheating because it was written years ago, but I still like the opening line to Siren Song.

Favorite closing line(s): Finding Pride and Human Maintenance may have sappy and somewhat cliche closing lines, but I still love them.

Top scenes from anywhere you would choose to have illustrated: I would love to have some scenes from Siren Song illustrated, like Bonnibel trying to observe Marceline scientifically but being distracted by how hot she is, Bonnibel meeting Hunson for the first (terrifying) time, Marceline calling Bonnibel her mate, etc. An illustration of Marceline, Princess Bubblegum, and Finn with their respective pride flags for Finding Pride would also be incredible.

Story I haven't yet written, but intend to: A Valentine’s day themed story for Marceline and Princess Bubblegum in my Open Eyes series, and an extra one shot for Mutual Pact of Non-Affection that is currently in Development Hell.

Fic-writing goals for 2023: Hmmm, I typically try to set word count goals for myself rather than specific fanfic-writing goals, since I have other projects I work on. But for this I will say that I want to actually finish one of my multi-chapter fanfics I have going. If I do succeed, it will probably either my Bubbline Kinktober (not a full 31 days, but the oneshots I intended to write) or Wicked Stirrings, which is already fully outlined and just has to be written and edited.

Akira is very... diverse when it comes to his taste in his partners. In other words, he doesn’t really care, but he feels like a complete degenerate when he realizes that his darling is quite literally an angel. He’s half demon, isn’t that like a mortal sin or something? Akira’s pretty sure that his feelings are illegal and he has a conscience so he’ll feel hella guilty about it for at least three to five months.

Aside from them being an angel, he adores their curvy physique. Body types don’t necessarily mean much to Akira, but after becoming merged with Amon... he’s very sexually driven so it affects him more than he’d like to admit. Akira slowly grows to deal with it, but he’s still a huge pervert and obviously tries to hide his tendencies from his darling.

As for them being albino, Akira finds them adorable. Now, since they’re an angel, I’m not sure if they’d be super sensitive to the heat and light, but if they were he’d be happy to keep them inside all day! Also, since they’re an angel, he gets very protective. Trying to preserve innocence and all that.

-Akira is a puppy; he desperately seeks every ounce of affection from you and does not back down when he’s rejected.

-The thing about that though is that you have never shown any interest in him AT ALL! He was scrawny, looked liked a starved pet, and was kinda annoying. All together unappealing for you.

-That is why he joined your favorite school club, in between track and everything else of course.

-He wanted to be by your side and a club is one of the places where you’ll be obligated to talk to him and obligated to be the tiniest bit nice.

-And then, after meetings, he would follow you home.

-But it wasn’t really following when he lived only about... six blocks away from your house in another direction, as he justified it.

-The amount of times he had been caught stalking you was almost pathetic. There was always a branch that he would stumble on, or a cat that would sneak up and scare him. And then you would turn around, scoff, and yell at him to go back home.

-He was better at stealing small artifacts from you, like your hairties or pencils that you chewed on.

-That was a bit of a repeated cycle, but then it was different when Akira became... different.

-He stopped following you home, he stopped nervously steering his way into your conversations, things stopped going missing, he just stopped almost everything.

-At least it seemed that way to you.

-He was still following you home and stole things away when you weren’t paying attention, he was just able to be more careful. And he really didn’t think he would have to try anymore; every other girl was flocking at his feet, so why wouldn’t you flock too?

-It didn’t take him long to realize that you still weren’t interested.

-So after your club meeting one day, he stayed after, waiting for you to leave like always.

-Except this time he stopped you, trapping you against a wall. He demanded to know why you were ignoring him and being such a bitch. He said things that you never thought he would say. And then he confessed his love to you.

-It was all so sudden, you could barely comprehend what was happening. He was spitting out bullet after bullet.

-But, like usual, you thought it was pathetic of him.

-Even after all that he said, you still rejected him.

-So he just thought he would just have to try harder.
