Carol Danvers Masterlist

A/N: I’m not sure why I keep putting the request there but just helps me keep track of what I’m doing. Anyway thank you guys so much for all the support I’m getting!!! I really appreciate it and it means a lot to me, this being my first writing blog and everything. So here’s the next part of Pretend and I’m going to be working on two asks tomorrow.

The day was going well, you and Carol had trained a bit with Steve and Natasha. It was fun, a bit awkward. You’d found out practically half the avengers had made a bet on you and Carol and when you would get together. The both of you were still finding out who had bet on the two of you.

You’d had pizza with most of the avengers who weren’t on a mission and watched a movie, then worked out for a bit and then showered.

But right now, it was 3:26 and you needed to ask Carol the awkwardest question about practice kissing. It wasn’t like you both could freeze up and pretend you weren’t a couple in front of your friends. Plus, kissing Carol was something you wanted to do, this just gave you an excuse to do it. But you decided to dress up first instead.

“I’m gonna go get ready, do you have clothes to wear or do you need to borrow mine again?” You asked Carol as you poked your head in her room. She was reading a book on her bed and almost jumped at your arrival.

“Ice skating right?” She asked, you nodded as she put her book down. “Is a sweatshirt and jeans okay?” She asked, you thought she was joking.

“This are my extremely posh and judgmental friends we are talking about,” you said and grabbed her hand, pulling her up. “We can’t go there dressed up as a homeless couple.” You said, heading to your room to pick out an outfit.

After about half an hour of bantering and picking out at least 20 different outfits which were now scattered across your bed. You finally picked out two outfits and handed one to Carol who was perched on the one clean corner of your bed.

“You can change in the bathroom, I’ll change in here and clean this up a bit.” You said, gesturing to the mess your room was in.

You’d picked out a army green velvet sweatshirt, black slightly ripped jeans, a black waterproof vest (looks more stylish than it sounds) and black boots for Carol. Carol had decided to wear a black crop top underneath the sweatshirt for some reason but you didn’t object.

For yourself, you’d picked out black leggings, fav/color slightly tight sweater, second/fav/color waterproof jacket with fur surrounding the hood, you decided to wear a black crop top underneath since Carol was and combined the entire outfit with your favorite black sneakers.

“Alright, thanks.” Carol said, and headed into your bathroom to change.

You sighed softly as you heard the door close behind her. You were dreading asking her if you could practice kissing. You started to change into your outfit.

You changed into the leggings with a bit of effort and almost tripped over them. Then you started to change out of your shirt. You took it off and picked up the crop top, oblivious to the sound of the door opening.

“How do I look?” Carol said, looking down at herself then up at you. Her face lit up a bright red realizing you were clad in nothing but your leggings and your bra. “So-, I’m so sorry.” She said, and quickly turned around.

“It’s, it’s alright.” You muttered, and put on the crop top. “You look nice by the way.” You said, now changed into the crop top and sweater.

“Thanks, Can I turn around?” She asked, still facing the other way.

“Yep.” You said as she turned around, you put your arms slightly away from your sides as if asking her how you look.

“You look nice too.” Carol said, and sat on your bed awkwardly again.

“Thanks, Wanna help me clean up?” You asked her, gesturing to the rest of your bed.

After about 10 minutes, you’d cleaned your room up completely, even made your bed for once. You and Carol laid down on the bed next to each other in silence. But you had to ask something.

“Hey Carol?” You said softly, sitting up. She glanced at you.

“Yeah?” She asked, sitting up too. She looked at you intently as you fidgeted with your hands nervously. She gently put one hand on the two of your in an effort to calm you down, your eyes snapped up to hers.

“The photoshoot is gonna be pictures of us kissing, you know this right?” You asked softly. Her eyes had an expression you couldn’t quite read, but her hand had gone completely still. “So do you wanna practice now?” You asked softly. You expected her to be shocked and leave you, instead she raised an eyebrow.

“You’re worried I don’t know how to kiss?” She asked, smirking slightly. You smirked in return, deciding this was better than what you had been planning or even hoping for.

“Yes, and I don’t want you to embar-” you were cut off by lips against yours, Carol’s lips to be precise.

This is going to be much, much different than you thought it was going to be.

Carol seemed much more into the kiss than you were, one of her hands reached up to your hair as the other reached around your waist. Your hands instantly went to cup her cheeks. You both had too much feeling for this to be just a practice kiss. Carol wanted to be so much more than your fake girlfriend in that second. She wanted to be your real life girlfriend, and so did you.

“Damn you guys just lost me twenty bucks.” Sam’s voice said from the doorway. Both of you broke apart breathlessly to turn around and see him leaning against the doorway. You and Carol glanced at each other, both internally debating whether to explain the situation to him.

“Sam,” You began, you wanted to stay in the same position you were in right now, but you couldn’t, so you let go of Carol’s face and let your hands droop at your sides. Carol took her hand out of your hair but kept one arm around your waist.

“Nope, I don’t need an explanation.” He said almost exasperatedly and headed out.

You sighed slightly and glanced at the clock. It was almost 4:30, you needed to head out to meet up with your friends. God this was going to be stressful.

“We should get going?” You said, half asking her. She nodded, and got up with you, her hand remaining on your waist. At this point, you weren’t sure what was pretend and what wasn’t

You both grabbed your jackets and slung them over your shoulders as you headed out, grabbing your phones and the car keys. As you walked into the living room, which was currently crowded with superheroes and spies alike, everyone looked at you with a smirk. Steve was practically grinning with 20 dollars in his hand. But everyone, including Sam had a suggestive smirk.

“Shut up!” You yelled as you headed out, hearing a couple of laughs. You and Carol sat in the car, heading towards the ice-skating rink for your “date”, which was going to be even more stressful than the last one.

1. What is a rumor people tell about them?

For Asiel and Alaina it’s definitely how many people they slept with or who they slept with. For Erasmus it’s that he’s a virgin. They’re wrong but they’re also not wrong. I think Stephane would have weird rumors ?? Where people assume scary things about him like he has a sex slave dungeon or something or that he’s so immune to all types of drugs that nothing can get him high anymore and that’s why he’s a fucking savage. But in reality Stephane sits in his room and eats ice cream.

2. How long would they last in the zombie apocalypse?

If there was no one watching Alaina - not long. I think she would be able to sneak by but that could only last for so long. Erasmus would be fucking dead in an instant if there was no one. Asiel, Stephane, Eskandar, and Ruben are def the top contenders. Kal too !! VICTOR WOULD WANT TO FUCK THE ZOMBIES AND I AM UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THAT THOUGHT.

3. If they’re about to get in a fight, what song plays in their head as their ‘hype song’?

Alaina: 7/11 - Beyonce (I love to think this is both hers and Asiel’s hype song and when this comes on they dance like a bunch of dumbasses)

4. How important is family to them?

To Alaina it’s important but it’s more like...the whole idea of family ? Since she doesn’t have her own ? Like she considers the Demonios her family so they are important to her. For Stephane he didn’t give a single FUCK about family until he and Alaina had theirs, but before he despised the whole idea of family and thought it was fake. The same thing for Asiel. For Cesaire I feel like family would be a difficult and uncomfortable topic. He hated his dad and was basically forced to hate his twin brother but he got the better end of it ? I think he would be confused on what like...constitutes a good family.

5. If they had a theme song, what would it be?

13. How did they find out Santa isn’t real?

Erasmus: Well, I was around eight or so. I thought the idea of Santa, this magical person who appeared from our chimneys who ate our cookies and delivered our gifts was absolutely absurd. There is about 7.5 billion people in the world and you expect me to believe this single man could visit all the children in a single night and do all of that? No. Impossible. I confronted my parents and they finally told me it was them.

Alaina wishes she was smarter.

Alaina: Asiel got arrested ?! I told him he wasn’t allowed in that donut shop anymore !!! :’(

Asiel: Lanes is in jail ??? GOOD FOR HER !! Finally someone punched her ‘jail card’. So what was it for? Public intoxication or indecency?

Erasmus: I told Letha nudes weren’t allowed on twitter !!!!

Ophelia: Kal ?? In jail ?? You’re fucking with me. Kal never gets caught. You’re just trying to trick me into leaving so he’d be able to go “SURPRISE!” and break my other leg.

17. In 40 years, what will they be the most nostalgic about?

Victor: Do you remember the night we all went to the strip club together? And I saw that beautiful girl, with the smoothest skin. Candi, I believe her name was, with an ‘i’. Her body was almost perfectly preserved without the help of my chemicals for almost a week! A week with that smooth skin underneath my fingertips. I wanted to cut them off after, afraid that if I didn’t nothing was ever going to feel as good underneath my skin like that ever again. She looked just like she was before I killed her. It was the best sex I've ever had, what I would give to relive that week.

18. How would they describe their family?

Kal would describe his family as “boring” which would be the reason why he killed them

I’d like to imagine that Victor’s famiy died in a v traumatic way ? Where he had to see their corpses or something which was why he turned out the way he is - so fascinated with the dead but i’ll get back to that later

I’m kind of torn on how Asiel would react to questions about his family, since he resents them so much I don’t think he would outwardly express that because that’s Asiel’s thing, you can’t find out WHY he hates the world but I feel like he’d be too upset to lie about it so he would dodge the question but in a v sneaky way so you wouldn’t see he was bothered by the question

20. Do they have any pets? If so, what are they?

ALAINA HAS TWO (2) PETS !! A German Shepherd named Orpheus and a Green Anaconda named No Feet or Nofie for short

23. What’s the most important object they own?

I’d like to think that somewhere Stephane has a picture of his family (with Ciro’s face cut out) and he even couldn’t bring himself to cut Cesaire out and he occasionally looks over it fondly when he’s feeling a certain type of way \

I feel like Asiel would have something from Natalie, his sister (I should ?? Change her name LOL) that reminds him of her, lately I have been thinking of killing her off LOL to increase Asiel’s angst and bitterness towards the world so an item that would remind him of her would be so so important to him

24. What event in their life would make a good movie?

EVERYONE’S LIFE IS A FUCKING MOVIE THEY’RE ALL IN THE MAFIA

27. What makes a person beautiful to them?

Alaina thinks everyone is beautiful in their own way and they have certain specific things about them that makes them beautiful

Stephane would find genuine kindness beautiful, just being kind not for any other reason than you genuine want to help and you genuinely care (tbh just Alaina in generally, if you’re anything like her you’re all set)

Erasmus is the same way with genuine kindness, but I feel like he’s moreso people being happy ? Because he’s kind of sad and grumpy and seeing people being happy and enjoying their life he finds very attractive (NOT ASIEL ENJOYING HIS LIFE THOUGH)

Victor thinks people going into rigor mortis is beautiful so...there’s...that

Asiel would also be attractive to genuineness but not kindness specifically, just people actually being themselves and not afraid of being themselves - but also Asiel finds everyone hot ?? so

I think Kal is incapable of finding people beautiful or attractive because he’s so fucking egotistical but I think what would peak his interest is people who are interesting - like if you can make him think you’re worth keeping alive he might fuck you or smthing or at least not kill you so that’s a plus

28. If they turned into their crush/significant other for a day, what would they do?

ALAINA WOULD BE SO EXCITED TO BE STEPHANE FOR SOME REASON like I feel like she’d take it as an opportunity to understand him better and she would just be excited to view the world from his “tall perspective”

Stephane would flip the fuck out for the first solid five minutes but then use the opportunity to take more pictures of Alaina in outfits or underwear he’d always want her to wear (with her permission ofc) god and I feel like he would love the opportunity to be mean to people while in her body just to see people’s faces of Alaina cussing them out but then he knew she’d cry so he would refrain from doing that

36. Do they believe things happen for a reason?

CESAIRE BELIEVES IN FATE SO FUCKING MUCH like he believes in zodiac signs and things that are written in the stars, if something is meant to happen then it would have happened is definitely his motto but he would definitely work hard to make things happen as well

42. Do they drink/smoke/do drugs?

Alaina is an alcoholic in Arc 1 because she believes that since her life is better now she shouldn’t be feeling sad and thinking that she has problems because her life could be so much worse so she drinks to “cope” with her problems and eventually Etienne gets her into drugs as well but after she breaks up with Etienne, Asiel helps her become sober

Asiel used to drink and do drugs like in an excessive amount but when he ODed and scared Natalie by almost dying he quit that

Stephane, Kal, Ruben, and Eskandar smoke but it’s all casual

46. What is something silly they’ve been tricked into believing?

Alaina would believe anything you tell her from fucking anyone she’s so fucking dumb and I love her so fucking much for it she’s so cute

50. What topic could they give a 20 minute presentation on with no preparation?

Okay, let’s start with crossing off what I haven’t seen yet:

Ant-Man

Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2

Ant-Man and the Wasp

Spider-Man: Far From Home

Hmmm. That list is shorter than I expected but anyway none of them so far are making me very excited and I’m not planning to watch them.

Now for the seen movies ranking. We’ll go backward cause it’s more fun and easier.

19. Thor: Ragnarok

Horrible. Complete shit and didn’t do justice to two of my favourite babies. Not even on the list.

18. Age of Ultron

Very bad, doesn’t exist. Gave me science bros, hence is even on the list, but definitely deserves a last place.

17. Guardians of the Galaxy

Overall a good movie but I formed no real and lasting emotional attachment to any of the characters, so meh.

16. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Very mediocre movie. Enjoyed it and had a very cool elevator scene, but the overall impression was NOT MUCH BUCKY FOR A FUCKING MOVIE ABOUT BUCKY.

15. Thor

Not bad. Too much Thor for me. Gets a lot of points for Jane and Darcy. Some nice Clint and Coulson too.

14. Thor: The Dark World

Liked it. Had some Frigga, Jane looked real pretty in a dress, quality Loki. I really enjoy this one but still too much Thor.

13. Captain America: The First Avenger

Fun movie. A lot of bonus points for Sebastian Stan looking like a snack. Peggy scores it all the points and Steve at peak Steveness.

(This is now becoming really hard. Can I just do ex aequo?)

12. The Incredible Hulk

Love the movie. Not loving the cinematography all that much. A good movie that could have looked better for its times. STILL DESERVES A LOT BETTER THAN IT GETS. Would be higher if it had Ruffalo so fuck you, casting team.

11. Avengers: Infinity War

Cool points for IronStrange and Brucie bear. Sweeet cinematography. But altogether nothing that much for me.

10. Avengers: Endgame

Tony got killed here. The scenes were fresh and the movie enjoyable but Tony got killed here. Would consider watching again.

9. Doctor Strange

Here begins a category of: didn’t have my fav but was part of the franchise so I saw it and got unexpectedly attached. The facial hair bro magicked his way into my heart and anyway, it was objectively just a very good movie, movie-wise.

8. Spider-Man: Homecoming

I never even expected to see this as a part of MCU but it was real joy for me and both MCU and Spider-Man fan. Also like, A LOT of bonus for an unexpectedly joyful Tony Stark the Iron Dad.

7. Captain Marvel

Another one in the forementioned category. Would die for Carol Danvers and would thrive for Carol Danvers and her wife and daughter.

6. Avengers: Civil War

Why was this film called Cap again? Anyway, absolutely loved this one as a movie. Great writing, great filming, Tony looking tired and handsome. Finally actual Bucky. T’Challa back when we thought he’s suave. Would be higher but alas Steve made a completely bafoon out of himself.

5. Iron Man 2

It’s a really good movie with a lot of IronAgent feels but unfortunately maths pushes it to fifth place. I guess it gets one bonus point though for a villain not motivated by Tony Stark (in a Tony Stark movie too!).

4. Black Panther

Fell so fucking in love with this shit. They better not ruin it for me with the sequel. Was delighted to discover T’Challa is actually a disaster. Would kill for Shuri and Okoye and Nakia, and M’Baku and Everett Ross and actually, this movie gets like all the bonus points for having A LOT of likable characters. Not on the podium solely for the lack of Tony.

3. Iron Man 3

This one gets a minus petty point for fucking Bruce over.

2. The Avengers

Cuddle Duty - 3k - love!!!!

Sleep-deprived Tony is a cuddle monster that glomps onto the first person he finds. Bucky has a crush on Tony and tries to always make sure he is the first person sleep-deprived Tony finds, thinking a cuddle session is the only time he’ll get to have the genius in his arms.

The one thing no one had felt the need to warn him about was also the only thing for which he’d have actually appreciated a heads up. Tony liked to cuddle. Looking at him, you wouldn’t have pegged him as the cuddly type. Nothing about him looked cuddly. He wouldn’t let people hand him stuff, even with his improved mood he hung back half the time, as if he wasn’t part of the team. The other half he got so in your face some of them might have missed the hanging back.

Nothing prepared him for the sight of a zombie-like Tony staggering into the common area and latching onto Clint (of all people!) like a limpet.

Transform and Roll Out - 1k

Prompt: Imagine sleepwalking Tony! Bucky following Tony to make sure he doesn’t hurt himself, but finding sleepy Tony who tries to create a transformer out of the coffee machine completely adorable!

The first time it happened, Bucky was understandably freaked out. He’d like to think anyone would have been, but maybe it was him and his brainwashing hangups. Or maybe it was just seeing Tony shuffling around like a zombie.

Carry You Anywhere - 1k

Prompts for domestic fluff, proposal fluff, Bucky carrying Tony bridal style… basically all the fluff, because I made people cry with “A Respectful Distance.”

When he first came to live in the Tower, Bucky hated waking up. There was always that moment of uncertainty, the little jolt of panic as he tried to figure out where he was. Who he was.

Of course, he hadn’t enjoyed sleep much back then either. The insomnia was exhausting, and his life had been a bit of a nightmare, but now he could look back on those days through the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia. After all, his inability to sleep was what led to him and Tony spending more time together.

The Joke’s on You - 3k

Prompt: Tony is pulling a working stint and usually Bucky is okay with them and lets Tony come back to him on his own…but it’s been 50+ hours and Bucky’s starting to get worried. P.S Bucky deals with a super sleepy (and not at all incredibly adorable) and stubborn Tony. AND: Imagine Avengers prank war = all of Tony’s clothes get glued to the floor. Bucky walks in while he’s naked, trying to pull his pants off the ground… AND:Imagine Bucky coming to live at the Tower and seeing how Tony’s always nonstop working on something for the team and doesn’t he ever sleep? The rest of the Avengers either don’t notice he’s coming apart at the seams or just assume he’s fine as always.

“This isn’t what it looks like.”

Bucky arched an eyebrow, and ran a hand over his face, pushing his smile aside before Tony could see it.

“It isn’t?”

“Uh…” Tony cleared his throat. “Well. I guess that depends on what you think it looks like.”

“It looks,” Bucky drawled, gesturing around them, “like you’re naked, surrounded by clothes, and that you were trying to pull your pants off the floor. And failing. Miserably.”

Cookie Day - 1k

Movie Night in the Avengers Tower is a weekly tradition, and so is Cookie Day. Except Bucky runs Cookie Day and doesnt share with anyone ever, even though he makes the best cookies in the world. The team tries their hardest to get their hands on Buckys baked goods, but its Tony who finally wins.

Because who can resist a sleepy, snuggly Tony?

Anything You Want - 1k

Prompt: Bucky can’t say no to Tony if he is 1) In the cute stage of being sleepy, 2) Pouting, or 3) If he’s super excited. The avengers make sure to tease him about it all the time, except when they find they also have a hard time saying no to Tony.

Tony shuffled around until he was upright again, his hair half plastered to his head, expensive clothes wrinkled. His eyes were at half mast, and he had that sort of hazy look he got when he was seriously sleep deprived.

Adorable was a pretty good word for it. Undeniable was another. Bucky couldn’t help himself, not when Tony was all bleary eyed, and pouting. It was the worst possible combination.

Weightless - 3k

Tony half-asleep talking to an inanimate object and this time wondering if it could understand him. He should be in bed but scientific curiosity was a temptation he had a hard time ignoring.

(wild horses) couldn’t drag me away - 2k - this is literally so fluffy. I hate fluff. this overwhelmed with with love. I now love fluff.

Bucky isn’t sure what has woken him up until he squints open one eye, and immediately sees Tony’s sleepy smile. Tony’s hand is cupping Bucky’s face, and his thumb is brushing over Bucky’s cheek, back and forth, light and slow. Humming quietly, Bucky lets his eye flutter closed again, and leans into the touch, turning his head just enough to press a lingering kiss to Tony’s palm.

When Bucky pines - 1k

When Bucky pines, he pines hard.

One moment he’s growling at Steve for dragging him out of bed, the next he’s looking at Tony like he hung the moon, as the sleepy genius stumble into the kitchen.

- i kiiiind of liked bruce. i thought his character was pretty believable. like his blase attitude ... considering he’s never been known for his strength of will, and he’s been through so much shit, i believed that was *a* way he might handle this shitty situation. bruce and the hulk are both known to run away from problems, and he definitely didn’t do that this time, which was nice. but we also never got to see a true The Incredible Hulk moment which was a downer :/

- although it meant all my fav characters got sidelined for basically the whole movie, i appreciated the focus on the original avengers. i’m a sucker for a plot that comes full circle, and i’m a sucker for parallels, and also—this movie was SO much more focused, streamlined, and coherent than infinity war; it wasn’t busy or exhausting like it could have been. the addition of ant-man and a couple guardians was appropriate and they were some of the best characters so ... nice.

- “is that everyone?” “what, you wanted more?” Cue me, to my husband sitting next to me in the theater, “uh YEAH i wanted more, she’s still not BACK YET” boy i was so heated when carol just left for the whole movie but when she came back it was so worth it

- the opening with hawkeye was cute, his daughter was cute. i think i pissed off the stranger next to me in the theater because like 3 seconds into that scene (and the movie) i whispered “oh she is gonna be dust” and my husband snorted and the guy made some huffy noises and i was sitting there thinking “it wasn’t a spoiler it was common sense lol”

- at the end steve started to get emotional with bucky and i knew he was about to be a Bastard registered trademark, and i turned to ads and said “when hulk tries to bring him back it’s just gonna be the shield” which i think would have been very cool visually and all and it would be clear that steve just went to a new timeline, right? but i was so thrilled by his convo with sam ... they were so precious ........ that was worth it.

- (i didn’t HATE steve’s ending. it felt kind of tacked on and unnecessarily complicated, but it was also the obvious Happy Ending that they’ve been hinting at for like 8 movies with cap. the writers talked their way around their own definitions of time travel a little too much to make it work lol... but it was a very kind ending for steve, sam, bucky, and AU peggy.)

- the avengers dynamic for a lot of this movie was, finally, a team dynamic, and they worked together and at times even had fun together and it was so much more fun to watch than the last ....... every avengers movie including civil war. i mean, it wasn’t perfect throughout. and also tony was a huge douche canoe for awhile, but hey, in the end he wasn’t a bad teammate and also i never have to watch him again

STUFF I DIDN’T LIKE

- thor, just ,, pretty much entirely, but mostly the Fat Jokes. i think his arc could have been ok if he just ...... wasn’t fat. EDIT: my husband actually liked thor a lot in this movie, and he brought up some valid points, which i kinda want to make another post about. but this post is my initial reactions and in general i was just not happy with thor whenever he was on screen.

- particularly thor berating a child over the internet on a video game

- thanos continues to be boring, but there wasn’t as much of him in this movie as i expected, t h a n k

- didn’t like tony stark at all in the first half of the movie or more. what an absolutely unappealing dick. what was with his tantrum after he got back to earth?? and ripping out his IV and throwing a fit and blaming captain america? like this isn’t fun to watch, and it hasn’t been fun to watch in the last 5 avengers movies either lollll.

- tony stark’s family was off-putting for me. it was just weird to watch. i think this was a personal thing though. like individually i love pepper and the little girl but it was just ... i think it was very unexpected to me, and hard to wrap my head around

- giant plot hole where thanos just left his timeline like ok lol

- you’re trying to tell me the incredible hulk was trapped ... under a building?

in summary the first half had me worried it was gonna be Another Avengers Movie but the second half i basically forgot all the dumb stuff and really had fun watching it. just ....... super entertained. loved all the parallels and full circles and cheesiness. when they gave sam the shield i think that’s the first time i’ve ever been surprised by a marvel movie and ..... boy.

While I can’t speak for DS9 Quark/Brunt, my current favorite from Discovery has to be Michael/Tilly, which might very well be the single most wholesome thing I’ve shipped in a very long time.

Chauvelin/Percy/Marguerite from The Scarlet Pimpernel. I do not accept constructive criticism on this one. Because Percy/Marguerite are sickeningly sweet on their own, Marguerite/Chauvelin has That Sexual Tension in Where’s the Girl and The Riddle, and Percy/Chauvelin fulfill all my requirements as far as enemies to lovers ships are concerned.

23. Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it.

I’ve talked a lot about Forgiveness being one of the very few things I’ve written that I’ve ever liked and the ONE thing that I feel…gets my idea of how L/R WORK together and probably shows off my style best, along with Fowl Play (WHICH HAS FANART NOW. WHICH I’M STILL NOT OVER BECAUSE MY BABY HAS FANART.) So, instead, I’m going to shift to Pour la Peine, which…is my messy, messy child in many regards, not the least because it’s so much longer + still isn’t finished.

(Warning for various and assorted personal, squishy feelings, as well as cancer mentions)

When I first got the prompt from @fallenidol-453, it was January of 2018. Two months before, I’d received the news that my uncle had Stage Four Esophageal Cancer and my mother had moved from our house to his house to care for him, leaving me without her help for the first time in my life, which I deliberately kept as low-key about on here as I could be, given that, to be honest, dealing with the endless “I’m so sorry to hear that”s gets very exhausting after awhile and I was a college student with a schedule to keep. And he and I had a very…contentious relationship, despite the two of us being alike in many ways. Possibly because we were alike in many ways. And, by May of that year, he was dead. And I would learn shortly afterwards that my paternal grandfather had died in January, but no one on my father’s side had bothered to tell me. I spent a lot of time trying to deal with the stress of that time, juggling that with my schoolwork and my fanfic, which I tried to work on from the time I received the prompt onwards. (Tbh, I’d had the opening scene in my mind for awhile before, but I hadn’t had a larger plot + ending until the prompt.)

At first, I thought that I would publish it like I’d later publish Forgiveness, in one straight chapter, but as time went on and on and there became less and less of a shot of having it done any time soon, I ended up just publishing the first chapter and deciding to update it from there. And that chapter got a lot of ribbing from friends. “Her brother is dead” really came off as a very melodramatic first line, but I also decided, very early on, that I didn’t care about what the objective quality of it was; all I cared about was creating a snapshot of a time in my life, just like when I go through the stuff that I made when I was twelve and I laugh about the various and assorted OCs and questionable phrases but love them all the same because they’re my twelve year old self’s. And, where I was at that point in my life, writing Solène mourning a family member who she had a difficult relationship with while I mourned a family member who I had a difficult relationship with, it was the only line that felt right to me.

There’s a lot of things with this one that I’m still not sure about. There’s a plot twist that I’ve tried to be quiet about for all this time (that I’ve probably been really terrible about keeping, tbh) and that is either going to be the Jumping the Shark moment or the defining moment of it, and I’m obviously not sure how that’s going to be received though I want to believe I’ve foreshadowed it enough to not make it too much of a swerve, I’m not sure how I feel about the ending, there’s a lot there that’s murky and probably more reflective of my writing a year ago than not, and I’m not sure about how I’ve handled the character dynamics given what we’ve got in canon or the dynamic I’ve put them into, or whether the choices they’ll make reflect THEM or what I WANTED them to do. Hell, with a few things, I’m not sure how I’m even going to GET to the ending.

But, I’m really proud of how much I’ve had the chance to work with Solène and Olympe, I’m really happy with a lot of the work I put into sequences like the two chapters long March to Versailles, which involved looking into a LOT of personal accounts as well as secondary sources analyzing it, and I liked trying to flesh out Solène’s world. But, more importantly, of everything I’ve written, it and Le Cri are probably the most directly personal to me, and even though a part of me still says Her brother is dead is a hell of a melodramatic opening line, it fulfilled its purpose. And, tbh, sometimes that’s all a fic needs.

45. What is your all time favourite fanfic?

This is so hard for me, because there are so many fics that have left a huge impression on me throughout the various fandoms I’ve been in. In 1789 alone, I was thinking of at least two different fics at a given point, which is both fantastic and minorly stressful given how small this fandom is (one of which, incidentally, was Little Dove Heart, since that really gave me a huge push as far as Laz and his backstory and his characterization and his relationship to Artois, even if I tend to keep the latter more in the background). And there have been so many fics I’ve read that I’ll remember and go back to periodically, and that really helped me as far as looking at how character voices could be developed and how description would work and how to work a time period and a setting into a story.

Overall though, I think I’m going to have to give it to Vae Victis, which is a work by @sineala‘s. I’ve never been quiet about my undying love for the Gauls and for Brennus in particular. Brennus is one of my historical favs, and I felt like this fic did a really, really fantastic job of bringing that much-neglected period of time to life and developing the characters on their own, without me having any background in the source material. With fanfic, especially with a more active fandom, there’s kind of an expectation that everyone knows the characters involved, so to be able to work in a different time and to get the reader fully invested in the characters and their relationship in their own right is a really fantastic accomplishment, and to be able to show the Gauls and Brennus (in what little time he gets, because my boi’s not the focus and I accept that) as three dimensional figures rather than a rampaging horde is always much appreciated. And it has a WORKS CITED page at the end, AKA the eternal key to my heart.

im… bitter about the guardians movies. like when u sit down and watch them in the theatre you laugh and you thoroughly enjoy them but when you think about them theyre fucking awful??? i thoroughly enjoyed the first one, there was some super emotional elements to it despite the fact that it wasnt anything like the comics, but you kind of expect that from the mcu thats just how it is. but really the pre pubescent teenage boy jokes, the ‘oh i actually forgot you were here because women leave my mind as a concept after ive fucked them’ the whore line and the general acting like peter quill is the best shit since jesus christ….. should have been a warning???

the best thing about comics peter is that he’s so fucking normal like his dad’s king of a planet but he still flies around in his little ship in his ugly ass outfit and he’s not this fame hungry womanizer. he’s one of the most genuine and least annoying men in comics (or he was before they made the comics like the movies) and gunn (whedon for people who think their fav characters are super niche when they arent) made him into every single action movie male lead that gets a lot of girls without being likeable enough to genuinely warrant their attention and the one who leads and carries the team when literally EVERY FUCKING MEMBER of the mcu guardians are more skilled and smarter than him. then as for the rest of them….

the second movie was objectively pretty horrible??? and not even just w the different origin for peter. they used ayesha and wasted it. they used ego and wasted him on being obsessed with peter. further reminded everyone that a woman’s death was the catalyst for the entire series because the mcu loves dead women. sure they TRIED with mantis but even that??? diet. mantis for babies. her personality was self deprecating and people telling her she was ugly like does anyone know what tact is??? hello??? mr gunn????

it all relies on trashy, cheap humor, innuendo, men with nothing beyond basic skills and personality, predictable plots, changing comics facts that have worked for years and women with more skill than the entire team being put down. and then forcing the comics to change as a result. so…… an avengers movie in space??that being said they do the job for like… fun Dont Think About It entertainment like it does what it sets out to do. its a big budget action movie not crime and punishment so me being a bitch about it is kind of inconsequential lmao my main takeaway would just be enjoy them but dont think about it. i miss the guardians so much i havent seen then in like 10 literal years where is my team

in which I review (most of) the .hack// franchise

I know no one cares about me ranting about dothack but imma do it anyway. this isn't a complete list because, frankly, a lot of the Japanese only stuff, I've never played/read. also I haven't finished CELL yet so I didn't list it. also the smaller off shoot series I ignored unless I really enjoyed reading them. (Also this is just my opinion lol) AI Buster: 9/10 — super intestering, only downside is the translation is inaccurate at times SIGN: 8/10 — killer story, amazing background music and characters, but A TON of filler. I highly recommend this series though, especially as a vantage point to introduce people to the series IMOQ: 5/10 — the narrative is great, but I find the characters less interesting than SIGN. also gameplay is outrageously clunky, level grinding is tedious, and virus cores are super annoying Liminality: 7/10 — considering this is the only series that mainly focuses on the real world, I think they do a good job of translating the "talk for 28 episodes" formula into a 3 ep OVA. I always enjoy watching it but it can be slow at times XXXX: 8/10 — it's like IMOQ without the horrendous gameplay! also making cubia a person was definitely a cool idea (and kite is super gay) Another Birth: 5/10 — interesting but do we really need *another* retelling of IMOQ Legend of the Twilight (manga): 8/10 — fun, light-hearted, fanservicey Legend of the Twilight (anime): 1/10 — straight up bad. don't let Bee Train deviate from the plot because it ends badly. also shugo and rena are SIBILINGS. im kinkshaming bee train tbh AI Buster 2: 7/10 — there's nothing really wrong with it and it's fun to get a little more back story on Alberio and Kamui but the small, individual stories don't really do the narrative justice ROOTS: 3/10 — I really don't understand why this anime exists. it's sort of cool to get more info on shino and haseo and ovan but the auxiliary characters are forgettable at best. also, we have so much content surrounding haseo that it seems a bit forced to keep going over the "haseo likes shino and he's gonna kick people's ass until she's avenged" thing. you can certainly play GU without knowing anything that happens in ROOTS, which I don't feel is true for IMOQ and SIGN. the pacing is bad, the narrative is forced, and I think the only good thing about it is the music tbh GU: 8/10 — okay I may be a bit biased because this might be my favorite series in dothack, but the characters and story are SO GOOD. like give me that angery silver haired anime boy, give me the mentally ill but trying her best anime girl, give me that GAY SHIT. the gameplay is way way better than IMOQ and the pacing is a hell of a lot better, but it does get kind of tedious with level grinding and tournament battles GU+: 10/10 — like with XXXX I feel like they improved the narrative in all the ways it lacked in the game. also since I'm a slut for haseo/atoli and haseo/ovan, this shit delivers. the art can be inconsistent but the spreads are beautiful and a lot of the facial expressions that are lost on the game come across better on paper. I also love when they give us more content than what's available in the main storyline Trilogy: 6/10 — just in case you need ANOTHER adaption of GU, here's a beautifully rendered attempt to cram 80 hours of game play into 90 minutes. unfortunately, atoli/haseo being endgame is less sweet than in other versions as I feel like their character development is rushed and relies on montages rather than actual interactions. dothack is amazing at creating beautiful ships that are multifaceted and dynamic, but Trilogy relies more on "look! it's a bad boy and a good girl, it's not like they're going to fall in love or anything *wink wink*" also haseo screams basically the whole movie which is both hilarious and annoying Quantum: 5/10 — yay more content, but why does every main character have to have kite's avatar??? this OVA is kinda forgettable tbh LINK: 8/10 — okay so this a majorly biased rating but this game is 100% fanservice so I'm rating it as a fan rather than an objective observer. it gives a shout out to every dothack series (and mind you, there's 2 other games, 4 animes, and 25+ volumes of books). like the story is clunky in that it goes to great stretches to convince you that they're not just doing this for the fans, but it is super cool to see all the favs back in action. I saw a lot of complaints about the gameplay, but I thought it was on the better end for a dothack game. I find IMOQ to be virtually unplayable in comparison. also the shift away from level grinding and allowing you to do subplots to get extra stuff is really quite fun. Yeah the juggling thing is kind of tedious, but let's be real, what dothack game hasn't been tedious? (like they should really just stick to anime and manga because they're just not good at making well rounded games.) that said, I have really enjoyed playing LINK but I see why they didn't translate it to English. they were like "thanks for investing hundreds of dollars into their franchise, here's 40 hours of fanservice" haha writing these reviews makes me realize that it's probably a good thing that they're not really working on this franchise anymore. project dothack is definitely better as a whole, but dothack conglomerate has (in my opinion) individual series that are better
