even for a disney movie tangled takes a pretty random but enjoyable departure from the original fairytale and i do think that's because another prince character just wasn't cutting it and they decided to incorporate the gentleman thief storytelling tradition instead. the art design and miyazaki loving team behind it pretty overtly tells me the idea for that change came from the castle of cagliostro and a deep appreciation for it.
and me? personally? I WOULD rank cagliostro one of the most sincerely moving and aesthetically enchanting but also actiony fun movies about a princess ever animated and somehow it's not trying too hard to be ironic or hip or something. I feel like it's an obvious choice for study when trying to make a tricky script adaptation work when it is calling for the upbeat fight sequences and genre aware clever subversions but still needing to sincerely remain a pretty princess story in a magical land that does actually celebrate the spirit of fairytales and trying not to skimp too hard on any aspect
the original script for the rapunzel adaptation before lasseter took it over btw was a sort of fish out of water body swap modern day disney princess parody situation banking off the success of shrek. that was imo directly reworked as Enchanted. and much better utilized that way too
tbh in seeking a good solution to the new but not too new direction for disney, post-potf critical acclaim for returning to roots of sincerity but pre-frozen box office sensation, still seeking that dreamworks and pixar level of market domination. there was a very happy tonal medium to be found in cagliostro and it's success does suggest what something like that could do in a market looking for more modern, self aware and action packed takes on princess movies. a market that was already responding well to the dubs of other miyazaki directed movies disney was distributing.
castle of cagliostro does deconstruct fairytale stories and notions and princess movies, but does so much more lovingingly earnestly and whimsically, with a lot of affection for the source material compared to the cynicism of shrek. which as heart felt and genius as it is , wasn't something the disney company could pull off and maintain their brand.
there is nothing but sympathy for the kind of idyllic childhood notions of heroes and fairytale castles present in older disney movies, because clarisse herself holds onto those notions to help her maintain hope when escaping her situation. lupin plays into it too with some irony but not in a way that mocks her, just lightly mocks himself. it's a movie about how the real world can be really hard and at times you WILL face things that are insurmountable alone because that's normal and part of being a real person with normal limits. and asking for help from kind people isn't a weakness but part of life, a beautiful part of life even.
i've actually never seen a damsel in distress storyline portrayed as so human and understandable and not shameful. nor as a mark of being incapable but a role we all play at some point. it directly signals those who are most capable at the time to heed those around you. for what the hell else are all those skills and power youve got good for in the first place. DO be aware of those who are currently drowning in a situation no one should be expected to magically just surmount or suffer on their own and DO take action. it's your job
i love the castle of cagliostro down to my very core because I think it manages to express innocence wonderment as a strength of the soul even when juxtaposed against the complexities and realities of the often harsh present day adult world. and does so even more gently and optimistically than other similar hits like shrek and princess bride. in that sense it's too perfect for any modern disney filmmaker to NOT find inspiration in. anyone would be happy to look to it as one of the examples of how to make a fairytale adventure feel updated, cool and self aware but still maintain its palpable respect for those who love innocence and wonder.

So I listened to The Angel of Vine, an old (fictional) mystery podcast written in the form of a true crime podcast. It's about an unsolved murder that took place in old 1950s Hollywood, the private investigator who was trying to get to the bottom of it back then, and the podcaster trying to get to the bottom of that story now.
(Well, I guess five years old... is kind of old for a fiction podcast... Their website says a sequel is planned? But the story seemed extremely self-contained...)
Anyway. I liked it. The production values were high, the voice acting very good, the story solid. I thought the mystery was kind of predictable, honestly, but that's more of a me problem, I guess. It was still fairly atmospheric and I enjoyed the ride. The ending left me with some questions, but a comfortable number, I think.
What felt strangest, though, was that it actually reminded me so much of an old /nosleep story I always enjoyed, Dead Angels. I actually went back and checked and they came out right near each other in 2018. Seems fitting.
That's always been one of the stories that stuck out to me from my time trawling /nosleep, so maybe that was part of what helped me guess where things were going. (And... yes, I'll admit that the editor in me wants to make that story perfect, but I still think the writing is lovely. Just bear with the typos.)
Some further thoughts under a cut, for those who haven't consumed either (or both) of the stories.
I think we kind of have a fascination with art and Hollywood and starlets dying in order to become immortal. It already happens, the way Hollywood, especially old Hollywood, really chewed them up and spit them out. The Marilyn Monroes, the Judy Garlands, the little girls who became women who became just as famous for their pain as their art.
So I guess it makes sense that we also look at these sacrifices the same way that we look at victims of true crime. They're celebrities, too, frozen in time like an actress in a movie, except they were frozen by death. We love a martyr, a beautiful victim, an Ophelia, and I think it's really telling that the most famous unsolved mysteries really do end up being part of Missing White Woman Syndrome, y'know?
Both of the stories I'm talking about now feel inspired by real-life cases like The Black Dahlia, but I think both stories are also interested in... y'know, the eroticized violence of it all, the way people get obsessed with glamor and pain. The way that there sometimes is a violence to the way we consume the women we love and idolize and adore, and whether it's as explicit as a serial killer using dead women as a canvas or as hands-off as Britney being driven to madness, there really is a sense that art is suffering, and certain kinds of suffering make the most beautiful art.
But... I think when people say "art is suffering" they usually mean the artist is suffering. That the art comes from that suffering. But I think both of these stories are really playing with the idea that we turn others' suffering into our art, we get obsessed with it, we consume it, and it becomes an act of love and violence.
I guess... there certainly is an element of the way that we view women in all this... There are questions brought up (especially in The Angel of Vine) about the brutality that's popular in pornography, about consent, about the way some people funnel that into consensual (or nonconsensual) kinds of othered sex acts.
There are questions here about why we seem to love women most when they're beautiful and silent, suffering and just a little bit unknown. Paintings don't talk, y'know...? Neither do dead girls.
I guess it all comes down to consumption and memory and the agony of the sublime, though. I don't know. I'm still kind of sick, so maybe I'm not making any sense.
Personally... I actually hate true crime as a genre and subculture, though I love fictional media about true crime and how it interacts with society. So I did enjoy The Angel of Vine (just like I enjoyed more lighthearted looks at a similar subculture, like American Vandal and Only Murders In The Building) and I thought that, in some ways, it was making commentary about true crime while simultaneously aping it, y'know?
Like it talked about the way a (relatively) innocent man's life was ruined by speculation. It talked about the way the victim's life became secondary to her death and to those that killed her. It talked about the very real lives that can be destroyed in the service of an obsessive search for the truth. It talked about how sometimes, murderers want to be remembered for their crimes. They want this to be how their victims are remembered forever. They want their lives to be overwritten by their deaths, and we become party to that when we consume these stories. It's all about control, it's all about the narrative, it's all about who we allow to have the final word.
I guess... in the end, it makes sense that we're really starting to see a rise in media about actresses being murdered purely to be remembered. The quiet part of Hollywood is being said out loud. We're starting to talk about the abuses of actresses more and more these days, and sometimes in terms that seem... voyeuristic, maybe, rather than supportive. It's something that I noticed and did not particularly like during the whole big #MeToo movement.
I'm not criticizing that movement, to be clear. I think it was incredibly important and there's a reason why there was this sudden outpouring of truth and support and empathy. But I also do think that the scandal itself started to become entertainment for some people, and there became a strange push for every woman to start revealing the details of her eroticized trauma in order to remain part of the conversation. Those details got eaten up, just like the details of the more famous actresses' assaults were.
It's the empathy and consumption and revictimization every time an actresses's "nudes leak." It's the empathy and consumption and revictimization of women whose sexual assaults and/or murders are detailed on true crime podcasts. It's just. It's always down to consumption and memory and whose memories matter.
It's... idk, it's Ophelia, y'know? We love a pretty dead girl, especially if we have just enough information about her to feel like we know her -- without actually feeling the trauma of knowing her, of having a loved one and losing them and having the whole world swallow them whole.
It's all just complicated when we're dealing with women who wanted to be famous, just presumably not like this. And maybe, the cultural desire to punish them for that...? "Celebrities chose this life" and all that shit that paparazzi say. "I just want the victims to be remembered." Media bullshit.
Ah. I've tired myself out again, and I'm rambling. But I do think it's interesting, and I'm gonna be thinking about these topics for a while. Live fast, die pretty, etc. Memories live forever. Manuscripts don't burn. All that stuff.

Yooooo unironically LOVE the trolls movie. The second one was okay too, I can't remember it as well as the first but the first is a whole ass comfort movie for me and my best friend when he visits. It's just so. Nice. And, yknow, singing killed my grandma helps too
Casual animation-fan rant beloe
Like I love the decision to take the 60s-70s as a major design influence since that's when Trolls exploded in popularity. The Trolls themselves are in this world composed entirely of felt, wool, and other textiles in these bright psychedelic colors inspired by hippie clothes and patterns. Meanwhile the Bergens' town is based of 70s slums, wear clothes based off the ugly ass polyester suits of the same time period, grey and/or white belts, and Bridget's disguise bridges the gap (no pun intended) with a 70s Disco queen outfit and hairstyle.
Also Walt Dohrn is one of the co-directors of the first film (and the VA for Cloud Guy) and the dude was a writer and producer on SpongeBob Season 2 and multiple early seasons of Dexter's Lab, and the first film has his writing fingerprints over it. I think that's why there's that nice blend of dark humor and fucked-upedness with the colorful happy optimism of the Trolls. Obviously it isn't all him, but you know what I mean.
And this film's hair and textile animation is legit phenomenal. Like the rigging they had to do must have been difficult as hell and I'm not surprised they used quite a bit of "cheating" to make things look good; the final scene where Poppy hugs Branch actually has her model clipping into his, so to solve the problem they just have the camera on the other side so that isn't visible to the audience.
Anyway DreamWorks still makes some good shit and I honestly have always respected their work from the 90s onwards more than Disney, ESPECIALLY regarding their 3d animation department. I like a lot of CG Disney films but...okay, CG films always have to find a way to translate their 2D character and art designs/concepts to whatever software they're working with. I think DreamWorks does a FAR better job "translating" their 2D concept art and designs than recent Disney projects. Trolls, Megamind, Kung Fu Panda, etc just have a better "translation" from concept to CG animation than (imo) Frozen, Frozen 2, Moana, Encanto, etc. Granted, Frozen was in development hell for nearly 50 fucking years, but I think my point still stands for other Disney projects.
I'll put it another way. DreamWorks is much more "cartoony" when it comes to designs and animation compared to Disney, which I think is why Disney gets the accusation that they have "same-face" syndrome for so many of their characters. They try to go for more realistic human designs with juuuust enough cartoonish aspects to be in the middle, which can come across as more boring. Like I liked Encanto's character design, esp when you can tell these characters are all family despite looking very different from each other. But Disney-Pixar seems less willing to take risks and get really FUN with their character designs compared to DreamWorks.
It also helps that DreamWorks has way more non-human characters and casts: Kung-Fu Panda, Shrek, Monsters vs. Aliens, Trolls, etc. Crazy shit and characters is basically their wheelhouse. But that makes them more distinct than Disney's prettified, smoothed-down approach to character design.
Speaking of which I added the new Puss in Boots film and all 3 Kung Fu Panda films to my watch list. I watched the first KFP when it came out but never the next two and they look really fun.
Also, special and very specific caveat-filled shout-out to the often maligned Sony Animation studio because Genndy Tartakovsky's work on the Hotel Transylvania series is some of the best CG animation I've ever fucking seen. It is so full of life and bouncy and dynamic and even if I dislike a lot of their other projects, the Hotel Transylvania films have amazing animation. It and the Spider-Verse film(s) showcase two ends of the spectrum that is animation as a medium.
And Illumination and Blue Sky Studios! I know they get some admittedly deserved shit but I really like the art style of films like Despicable Me, the Peanuts movie, the Dr. Seuss films, and Secret Life of Pets. They both do a nice job translating their concept art to a CG animation style and I find it appealing.

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฒ ENGLISH / ANGLAIS ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฒ
You know my love for the Disney universe and animated films. I have already written several stories inspired by films and cartoons, such as Hercules, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Frozen, Robin Hood...
Today I publish the continuation of a story inspired by the movie Aladdin, on which I had already written a personal fictional story. In this story, I imagined an alternate ending to the first film, in which Jafar became the new Sultan of Agrabah. I put you the link of this story. However, the story I am posting today does not require reading the first part.
Jafar is my favorite Disney villain, I worship him and he so deserves to be treated like a god. I've hardly ever written about a skinny guy, but here it's a skinny guy dominating a muscular guy, and we'll also see a muscular guy being submissive to a female guy. I'll let you find out who it is....
As for Jafar, although he can be attractive, and I imagine myself licking and kissing his big nose, it's not his physique that makes him attractive. We admire him more than we like, but in any case he is intelligent, ambitious and strong, and he is frightening as well as sexy. In short, it is difficult to explain why Jafar attracts us, but what is certain is that we really want to submit to him.
My friend @sultanjafar (Deviantart) said this about Jafar : "He has everything: he is incredibly handsome, dominating, powerful, wise, ingenious, bold, cruel.".
I still like Disney movies but let's be honest it's sad that there will be no more Disney villains as great as Jafar, Maleficent, Scar, Ursula, Frollo, Lady Tremaine, Ratigan,....
For this story, I was inspired by the beautiful drawings of @1080Spin (Deviantart), and I put the link to his work at the bottom of the story. Go see his magnificent works which imagine Jafar as a sultan, since that is the title he deserves. Please do not post the works of @1080Spin, but feel free to reblog my story to publicize his work.
I would like to dedicate this story to him here because I had not met people who revere Jafar to the same extent as me, and even more. @1080Spin, if you're reading this, know that I love your love for Jafar, I'm grateful for your drawings and hope you continue for a long time.
I also want to publicly thank @sultanjafar (Deviantart) whose blog is devoted to the worship of Jafar. Our discussions inspired me and I thought of you while writing this story. I hope you enjoy imagining yourself as one of Jafar's harem slaves.
To all my readers, thank you in advance for your comments, likes and reblogs.
Long live Jafar, Sultan of Agrabah, and let us prostrate ourselves at his divine feet! ๐Ÿ˜

SULTAN JAFAR AND HIS BELOVED SLAVE
Since becoming the Sultan of Agrabah, Jafar had been the most powerful being on Earth. Besides being the ruler of a kingdom whose power he had restored, he was the most powerful wizard, able to create soldiers to reinforce his armies and defeat enemy countries without any difficulty.
But he was also a Genie, the most powerful again, which made him a superior being.
Since his accession to the throne, he had ended up changing his style of dress. After the dark clothes, red and black, it was time to inspire respect for the inferior beings that are these servile subjects. That is why he wore white or light coats with wide sleeves and feathers. He took up a lot of space with his outfit, his large flowing capes hiding the thinness of his body.
In Agrabah, Jafar was revered as a living god because everyone feared that he could read minds and kill those who actually hated him. This is why celebrations were regularly held to recall the superiority of the brilliant Sultan Jafar. Jafar had several hundred palace slaves who obeyed his every wishes, and many heirs of defeated kingdoms became his harem sex slaves. The boys are feminized with jewelry in order to humiliate them, and they are chained at every parade to publicly humiliate them. This sends a clear message to their home kingdoms: your heir is Sultan Jafar's pet, so if you rebel, he will die from torture.
Jafar's sex slaves were submissives, of course, and all complied with his sexual desires without ever doing anything that showed disobedience.
Yet neither of them found pleasure in sleeping with Jafar, which hurt the Sultan deeply. He wished one of his slaves was tender, but they all just obeyed. It was starting to get tiresome just having fearful people in front of you. Moreover, even when he humiliated them for his pleasure, he didn't laugh too much because the slaves took the humiliation sessions too seriously, they were far too afraid of him.
Jafar knows that he is a superior being who deserves to be worshiped like a god, that the ground he walks on must be licked by inferiors who must devote his life to pleasing him. Yet deep down, and even though he doesn't want it to make him weak because he is a strong, ambitious, and powerful being, Jafar knows he needs someone's love too. Sultan Jafar, sorcerer and supreme genie, did not expect to fall in love with Aladdin.
Sultan Jafar liked to caress the muscular torso of his sex slave Aladdin. He liked the fact of having in his possession such a submissive boy who worships him as he deserves to be, but who at the same time is sincerely in love with him. Jafar was filled with an infinite love for Aladdin whom he saw as his slave, his son and his wife. As his slave because Aladdin had no right to disobey the slightest order from Jafar and dreamed all made while smiling. Like his son because Aladdin was immature at times and Jafar, older than him, liked to treat him like a baby to humiliate him, loving that Aladdin called him Papa. And finally as his wife because Jafar was sincerely in love with Aladdin that he had feminized and that he saw neither as a real woman but not as a man either.
That was what was pleasant, to know that he was loved by his enemy, that he had defeated him but that he was also in love with him and now wanted to cherish him.
His Gracious Majesty Sultan Jafar loved his new life. It had been a long time since he had set himself the goal of becoming the Sultan of Agrabah, and he knew he deserved it. He had once thought he would only achieve this by marrying the heir to the throne, Princess Jasmine. When he got the throne, he wanted to marry her to humiliate Aladdin. He knew that the love of these two young people was pure and sincere, and took pleasure in breaking it by marrying Jasmine under the eyes of Aladdin. He had had his feet licked and his cock sucked by Jasmine in front of Aladdin whom he had forced to watch the scene, but it had become tiresome.
He had preferred to use the princely title of Jasmine to create an alliance with a powerful kingdom. Princess Jasmine had been sold as a mere slave to an unknown king, exactly the fate she had always sought to avoid as a princess. She was the main wife of a ruler who had several wives in his harem. She could only get some power if she could influence her husband.
But she would never see Aladdin again.
The latter, for his part, had forgotten Princess Jasmine. He had been forced to be raped by the royal guards and army soldiers until he begged to serve as a sex slave to Jafar and recognized him as the rightful ruler of Agrabah.
After several months of being raped all day and being forced to lick the muscular, fat, or skinny but all sweaty bodies of guards and soldiers, Aladdin had given in. He had finally accepted his inferiority. Never would Jafar, who had spent so many years rising socially through his wits and magic, let a mere thieving beggar sit on the throne of Agrabah. And he took pleasure in forcing Aladdin to think so. He wanted Aladdin to worship him too.
Sultan Jafar was often fed on his huge throne by an obedient Aladdin, who was silent while carrying a tray of delicious fruit and listening to Jafar talk about himself. Aladdin was chained with a golden necklace and was only a slave, but his situation would change as the Sultan fell in love with him.
Jafar let his sex slaves roam the gardens when not required to entertain or relax him. Thus, he found Aladdin walking in the garden with the former Sultan, Jasmine's father. This old man could have been his father-in-law if Jafar had not taken the throne. Jafar came towards them, and the former sultan, now dressed as a jester, immediately prostrated himself at Jafar's feet. Not only had he been hypnotized by Jafar to learn how to obey him obediently, but he was also afraid of Jafar.
Tumblr media
Jafar didn't even look at the sultan prostrating himself at his feet, he thought it natural that this old moron was on his knees. On the other hand, he looked tenderly at Aladdin, who had never been so handsome. Obliged like other male sex slaves to wear women's clothing, he was also made up and wore jewelry. If in some boys the make-up and the dresses made them look like real women, Aladdin retained masculine features: his face was not too soft, he had a high waist, although he was shorter than Jafar, but he had a much more muscular torso and arms than the new Sultan's.
This is also what Jafar appreciated in this contrast: Aladdin was all the more humiliated because you could see that he was a man despite the feminine make-up and jewellery, but it also showed that his muscles did not not of him a mighty man. Yes, Jafar was skinny, but he was smarter and had magical powers.
SULTAN JAFAR: "So, pretty Aladdin, are we taking a walk in the Palace gardens?"
ALADDIN: "Yes, Gracious Majesty, your gardens are splendid. I enjoy being there."
SULTAN JAFAR: "But you are alone there!"
ALADDIN: "Well, Your Highness, Jester keeps me company. He is very kind, Sire."
Aladdin was talking about the old Sultan, a fat, useless old man who was a prisoner in his own palace, so hypnotized that he was sometimes persuaded that his real role had always been to be Royal Jester and that Jafar had always been Sultan of Agrabah.
Jafar laughed, in that powerful laugh could scare anyone. This strident laughter which expressed the joy, the satisfaction and the obvious pleasure to know to be more intelligent, then stronger than the others.
JAFAR: "Come with me, my kitten."
ALADDIN: "With great pleasure, Your Most Serene Greatness."
Aladdin took Jafar's arm, while the Jester, the former sultan, wore the huge white cloak of Sultan of Jafar so that the fabric wouldn't get damaged. The Sultan was so rich and authoritarian that he had as many clothes as he wanted, each one more luxurious than the other. Obliging the jester to carry his robe behind him had no other use than constantly reminding him of his inferior place.
The Sultan Jafar and Aladdin both took long walks, Aladdin, who had never been to school, was overwhelmed by the intelligence and the extent of the knowledge of the wizard, while this one especially liked the kindness and the beauty of the young man. He didn't hesitate, while talking to her, to caress her cheeks with his long hands or feel her plump buttocks.
At one point, Aladdin asked the Sultan where his parrot Iago was, and Jafar was delighted by Aladdin's interest in Iago. If Aladdin hadn't been a little hypnotized by Jafar, he would never have been interested in Iago, but since Jafar had hypnotized him, he was convinced that it was important to please Jafar.
Jafar could not force Aladdin to be in love with him, he seduced him, and regularly offered bihoux to see him in the palace wearing golden jewelry. Aladdin, who had always lived in misery, was grateful for Jafar's love for him, and always thanked the ruler of Agrabrah by kissing and licking his hands. Jafar liked that Aladdin licked and kissed his long skinny hands and the handsome 19 year old slave sucked his long fingers.
Over time, Aladdin let himself be seduced with more pleasure by Jafar, but also showed himself to be much more entertaining in his seduction, thinking of the advantages he would gain from his position as a beloved slave of the monarch, but also because -that he had genuine feelings for Jafar. He had grown up without family presence, had always been in need. The young beggar had also suffered from a lack of tenderness in his life, as he always had to rely on himself, and his only friend had been Abu, his pet monkey.
The love between Aladdin and Jafar became evident, both in the palace but also to the soldiers of the army who got their information from the palace guards, and the servants and guards, when they returned home or went to visit. visit their family, talk to their loved ones.
From day to day, the rumor spread. Yet no one dared speak ill of it, fearing that Jafar - whose second wish had been to become Earth's mightiest wizard - had the power to read minds or hear the words of the people.
At the Palace, Aladdin was one day dressed in a cute red slave outfit with a gold collar to which a gold chain was attached and held by Jafar. This one sat comfortably on his huge throne with his feet on the faces of a former prince and princess of a conquered kingdom that was now part of the territory of Agrabah. The former rulers had been made "regents" of their own kingdom and the heirs were Sultan Jafar's sex slaves in order to dissuade them from rebelling.
One of the kingdoms had attempted to rebel by launching an army against the capital of Agrabah, and Jafar, after leading his own army into battle, punished the Crown Prince of that kingdom by making him an object of torture. Prisoner of a narrow cold room, he only served to be whipped by Jafar when he had sadistic impulses. Since then, no other kingdom had attempted to regain its independence, which meant that the lesson had been learned by the regents, who feared the same fate would befall their sons and daughters.
One day, Jafar ordered the slaves of the harem to prepare Aladdin with a sumptuous shiny and gold-embroidered outfit, jewels and give him a little massage, before Aladdin joined him in the Palace gardens.
There Jafar greeted Aladdin and they spent the evening eating a feast prepared in advance by servants in the kitchens, while behind them musicians played soft light music. After his beloved slave feeded him, Jafar revealed his romantic feelings to Aladdin, and Aladdin replied that he was in love with the Sultan. Thus, the Sultan and his boyslave kissed passionately and cuddled for a long time, before Jafar made love with Aladdin in his luxurious bedroom.
Aladdin, now that Jafar had confessed his romantic feelings to him, was now in the position of favourite: although still a slave, he was now in a position to give orders and be served, but his grace and his kindness pushed him not to be bossy and arrogant.
One day Jafar was watching his beautiful feminized slave dance for him. The fat chef fed the Sultan directly so that he wouldn't stain himself with the meat skewers, and especially so that Jafar could take pleasure in applauding his pretty boy.
Tumblr media
Next to the throne, the former sultan was dressed as a jester but no one was watching him juggle.
SULTAN, now BUFFOON: "Master, are you looking at me?"
JAFAR, Sultan of Agrabah : "No I don't care about you, I admire my pretty boy. Keep juggling while closing your mouth!"
The Sultan was sad that Jafar was humiliating him, because he had been hypnotized in such a way that whenever Sultan Jafar didn't look kindly at him, he felt like shit. The jester had therefore become accustomed to being humiliated but was frustrated whenever he could not please Jafar. And he took pleasure in being cruel to the Sultan to avenge himself for the years of having served him instead of being on his throne. The jester should consider himself lucky not to have been transformed into something really degrading, such as human toilet for example.
Although Aladdin was Jafar's favorite slave in his harem, he did not neglect to order his other slaves, male and female, to serve him. Despite being the most powerful wizard in the universe thanks to his second wish granted by the Genie, Jafar didn't want to force his army to obey him through magic. He found it exciting to gain their loyal support by regularly offering them to be worshiped by his own slaves.
So, too much in love with Aladdin who was the most handsome slave in the harem, Jafar let the palace guards and army soldiers rape and get sucked and massaged by the harem slaves. Some were former Princes or Princesses, it was degrading to have to lick the sweaty and stinking bodies of soldiers from lower social classes, who had only risen socially thanks to their strength and brutality.
That day, Sultan Jafar sat regally on his huge throne resembling the head of a giant cobra. Under his large white sultan's robe, a former prince of a conquered kingdom was licking his balls. The Sultan took pleasure in seeing feminized male slaves kissing in front of him while another sucked his cock and two others sucked his fingers and two more licked his feet.
As the former Sultan turned buffoon fanned the new Sultan Jafar, the latter enjoyed watching the handsome male asses jiggle in front of him while being sucked off by a young man under his robe. The Buffoon was ignored by everyone, because after all he is just a fat little old man. As for Aladdin, even if he was madly in love with his powerful master the great Jafar, he took advantage of a moment of calm to go and rest and gain strength for the night that awaited him. Every night, it was up to him to sexually serve the man of his life.
On his way to the sumptuous apartments that Jafar had given him - which were those of Princess Jasmine when she lived here - Aladdin passed Razoul, head of the Sultan's guard. This extremely muscular, hairy and bossy giant had been Aladdin's enemy when he was still a thief. It was he who had arrested him the day of his meeting with Jasmine, even though he said he was only obeying "the orders of the Grand Vizier Jafar". It was he again who had been the first to rape him in his cell when Jafar had become Sultan of Agrabah and Aladdin had been thrown into a dungeon.
Although he had since been bewitched by Jafar to fall in love with him, Aladdin had retained a part of hatred towards Razoul, and took advantage of his new position as Sultan Jafar's favorite slave in order to get revenge for Razoul's humiliations. Razoul looked with delight at the Sultan Jafar being sucked off on his throne, dreaming of being sucked off like this. Certainly, the Sultan offered them moments of sexual pleasure by lending them his slaves, but the guards had to wait for his permission before being sucked off by them.
It had been nearly a week since he'd been sucked off at that point, and his huge cock grew bigger as he imagined being sucked off by a slave too. As soon as his gaze became too insistent on Sultan Jafar's crotch, Razoul brought his attention back to the spectacle. All these cute little feminized male assesโ€ฆ
Tumblr media
It was then that Aladdin walked past him, rubbing his nice rounded ass over his big erection. He restrained himself from blowing with pleasure.
ALADDIN: "So Razoul, are you enjoying the show? Is there something you don't like?"
RAZOUL: "No,.... Your Highness, not at all..."
ALADDIN: "Good... Leave Our Sultan alone and follow me to my rooms."
RAZOUL: "Yes Your Highness. .. I'm coming...."
Seeing this big powerful male obey him pleased Aladdin, even if his bewitchment prevented him from remembering exactly why he really resented Razoul
Aladdin went to the princely apartments formerly occupied by Jasmine. Razoul followed him blindly, like a dog.
Arrived in front of the huge doors, guards opened the room to Aladdin, who was certainly a slave of Jafar but had become the superior of the soldiers. Never would this child from the slums have thought that he would gain respect and power by becoming a slave. How ironic!
The two-meter-tall giant, one of the most muscular men in Agrabah, had to be subservient to this feminized slave, once a beggar and now a favorite of the Sultan. While he had always considered Aladdin his inferior when he was a street thief, Razoul found himself drawn to Aladdin.
This one, in spite of a light make-up, some jewels in the hair and in the ears, bracelets, fluid and feminine clothes of sensual colors like the pale blue or the purple, remained a man not too small and rather muscular. The contrast between his torso with abdominals revealed by a short garment excited Razoul a lot.
Agrabah's society was binary, in the sense that men had to be masculine and women had to be feminine: as in many societies, anyone who violated this unofficial rule was frowned upon by his fellow citizens.
The only way to see men being feminized was to have a slave. But Razoul was so important in the Palace, even when he was in the service of the former Sultan (Jasmine's father) that he had never been able to find a wife or buy a sex slave. His job at the Palace allowed him at least to be able to admire more or less discreetly the delicate slaves of the Sultan. Although he was violent and cruel by nature, he wanted to be tender with pretty boys, and for them to be tender with him.
Once in his room, Aladdin began to comb his hair sensually, passing a hand over his buttocks to guide Razoul's gaze to his pretty rounded ass. Despite his ample clothing, one could guess the roundness of the beautiful slave's buttocks. Aladdin ran his soft hand over Razoul's huge hairy chest, to excite him. Then, Aladdin went to lie down in Princess Jasmine's old bed. Filled with cushions, this plush bed was surrounded by fine silk sheets that gave a semblance of privacy to the princess, and now to Aladdin.
ALADDIN: "Come, Razoul."
The room was in white, light blue, green and gold tones, with gold cushions. Floral-patterned rugs lay on the floor. Razoul approached and Aladdin pointed to the ground. Razoul knelt down.
ALADDIN: "Razoul, come massage my feet."
RAZOUL: "Yes Your Highness."
The muscular giant crawled to Aladdin's feet, removing his shoes before massaging his soft, slender, muscular, sweet-smelling feet. Razoul's hands were hairy and muscular, larger than Aladdin's feet. He massaged his feet and felt surprisingly out of place, he who loved power. He was properly massaging Aladdin's feet, which was taking pleasure.
So Aladdin then began to move his other foot on Raoul's chest, then scrape his beard with his foot, put it under his nose and leave it for Razoul to breathe in the scent. Aladdin was gentle, but it was humiliating to be sniffing a slave's feet. Usually slaves licked his feet, and even Aladdin had licked his. Yet now he liked being at the feet of the feminized slave.
Razoul's large, manly hands massaged Aladdin's smaller feet, but Aladdin toyed with Razoul's undeniable arousal, making him feel his feet, gently forcing his nose to be wedged between his toes. Razoul, who owed obedience to the one who was once his prisoner, neither wanted nor could rebel. The delicate smell of Aladdin's feet made him feel good. He wanted to stay quietly sniffing his feet, but Aladdin noticed the desire.
ALADDIN: "Razoul, I don't want my beloved Sultan Jafar to complain about the smell of my feet. Why don't you sniff them and tell me if I should wash them?"
RAZOUL: "Do you want me to sniff your feet, Your Highness?"
ALADDIN: "Well, I don't think you're deaf, so do what I told you, kind Razoul."
Razoul then put his nose against Aladdin's feet and sniffed them. The smell was delicate. Once upon a time, and it wasn't that long ago, Aladdin was a beggar who didn't even have the money to buy shoes or figure out how to make them. He was therefore barefoot, his feet bruised by the heat of the sand and the hardness of the stones. In addition to the dirt from the sand that had made his feet rough and gray, Aladdin's feet were soaked with the smell of sweat because he had no water to wash his feet.
Now, as the favorite slave of the new Sultan of Agrabah, Aladdin was served by the other slaves: he, a former poor man, had his feet cleaned or licked by former princes or princesses! He had now soft and delicate feet cleaned with rose water and flower petals were placed in his shoes to keep his feet smelling delicate.
Razoul therefore did not breathe in a nauseating odor, but a pleasantly perfumed odor which it was very difficult for him to stop sniffing. He stuck his big muscular nose between Aladdin's toes in order to breathe in all the warmth of the flower-scented feet!
Totally lost in his excitement, he proceeded to tenderly and passionately kiss the feet of Jafar's favourite.
RAZOUL: "I'm in love with your feet, Your Highness, I can't live without them...."
ALADDIN: "I see that you understand your place, Razoul. That's good."
RAZOUL: "Please give me the honor of licking your feet, I want nothing more than that!"
ALADDIN: "Beg me, maybe I'll agree...."
Razoul was begging to lick Aladdin's feet, whereas not long ago it was Aladdin who was begging Razoul not to make him lick his big hairy and sweaty feet!
ALADDIN: "Well, you show a real desire to please me, so I grant you that pleasure."
RAZOUL: "Thank you very much, you won't regret it, Your Highness!"
ALADDIN: "I hope so for you. If you want to be able to lick them again."
Razoul began to lick Aladdin's feet and his big cock had never been so hard. His long tongue roamed with delight over the masculine yet rose-scented feet of the pretty slave who closed her eyes to enjoy the feel of the warm tongue on his feet. Razoul sucked on Aladdin's toes as if he had never eaten anything so good, he brought them closer to his face to be close to those beautiful feet. As soon as Aladdin gave him a little kick with his feet, it calmed the licking speed and Razoul was more tender towards the feet, stroking them gently.
Because of the hypnosis, Aladdin had a hard time actually remembering what Razoul had done to him to make him resent him like this. He had a scrap of memory where he remembered that Razoul had locked him up and abused him, but nothing specific.
On the other side of the palace, at the very top of his tall personal tower, Sultan Jafar entered his secret laboratory. He and his parrot Iago are the only two people who can enter it. This is where Jafar operated his magic ball to find the "diamond of innocence" that would allow him to steal the Magic Lamp from the Cave of Wonders.
It was also there that he had created his potions, his spells and had practiced hypnosis by transforming rubies into magic stones capable of controlling people's thoughts. In his snake-like specter, he had embedded the rubies at eye level and used them to control the Sultan according to his will, allowing him to unofficially rule Agrabah for so many years.
It was in this laboratory that he had also concocted a potion capable of giving voice to Iago, his pet parrot but his only true friend. He could have ingratiated himself with Princess Jasmine by allowing his tiger Rajah to speak like a human, but he had found it funnier to be cruel to her.
Anyway, he was now a sultan and rarely came to this room. Having become a powerful wizard, he no longer had the same use for it.
From his crystal ball, Jafar saw the scene of the foot-licking and enjoyed seeing Aladdin being so worshiped by Razoul, the leader of the guards and the army. It gave him an erection, so he started stroking his cock under his thick white sultan robe, but also an idea. He might have found a way to secure Razoul's loyalty...forever!
When Jafar was Grand Vizier of Agrabah, Razoul had always obeyed him blindly as if he were the Sultan without bearing the title. The tallest and most muscular man in Agrabah, he was very useful as head of the Sultan's Guard and commander of the armies. However, Jafar, suspicious of the idea of โ€‹โ€‹trying to dethrone him - although this was impossible since he was the most powerful wizard - had to find a way to ensure the unwavering loyalty of Razul.
It was when he said he was "in love with Aladdin's feet" that Jafar came up with his idea: he was going to hypnotize him so that he was literally in love with Aladdin's feet! Taking with him his long golden specter whose pommel represents the head of a cobra, the new Sultan of Agrabah went to the princely apartments of Aladdin, located opposite Jafar's private lair.
As he passed, the slaves would bow down at his feet, and he was followed by the former Sultan who was so small in comparison that he looked like a dog. He was dressed in a red and white jester's costume with a hat with bells in order to humiliate him.
Together, they climbed the spiral staircase of the tower that led to Jasmine's room, which became Aladdin's. The last time the former Sultan came here was when his daughter told him that she had finally found the man she wanted to marry. She and Aladdin loved each other, even though she was sure he was Prince Ali Ababwa, the name Aladdin had invented to quietly woo the Princess and get her to marry him.
Sultan Jafar entered the chambers of the man he secretly loved, and the former Sultan turned Jester prostrated himself at the master's feet. He followed Jafar on all fours, who smiled when Razoul stopped sucking Aladdin's toes and stood up.
JAFAR, Sultan of Agrabah: "Continue, Razoul. I want to see how you serve my love."
RAZOUL: "Yes Your Greatness Jafar!"
Razoul went back to licking Aladdin's pretty feet while Jafar snapped his fingers for the former Sultan to get into a footrest position so Jafar could crush his long feet on his big belly. The old jester is just a useless fool, but he has the merit of being comfortable!
Jafar watched intently as Aladdin got his feet licked. He liked to see this giant over 30 years old, very muscular and hairy, totally submissive at the feet of a beardless and feminized 19-year-old young man! Never would the superior being that is Jafar lick anything so low as feet, but he knew that his and Aladdin's deserved to be worshiped by the tongues of servile beings!
After 20 minutes of watching Razoul run his tongue and his nose and his hands all over Aladdin's feet, Jafar was bored. Certainly, he liked to see that the feet of the beautiful slave were shiny so much they had been licked. But it was time to move on to Razoul's hypnosis
Jafar planned to make Razoul fall in love with Aladdin's feet to make sure that the head of the guard never tried to betray or depose him. Despite his immense wizarding power, Jafar could not make people fall in love with humans, love being a force more powerful than magic. It is also for this reason that Jafar had not given in to the temptation to become a Genie either: genies cannot make love, kill or resurrect the dead.
So Jafar only had hypnosis as a way to make Razoul fall in love with Aladdin's feet (feet aren't human people so the spell could work).
JAFAR: "Razoul, come to me."
RAZOUL: "Immediately Your Greatness."
Sultan Jafar held out his cane to Razoul's gaze, and despite the fact that he was not stupid, Razoul was too obedient not to refuse this order. So he looked at the rubies that formed serpent fires on the pommel of the specter, and found himself hypnotized by Jafar's words.
JAFAR, Sultan of Agrabah: "You love Aladdin's feet. Nothing matters more in your life than the comfort of Aladdin's feet. Listen to me. There is nothing you don't love swallow more than the sweat of his feet. Yes, listen to my voice. You want to lick his feet. You are in love with Aladdin's feet. You are the licker of Aladdin's feet. You want them....."
RAZOUL, hypnotized: "I love Aladdin's feet. Nothing is more important in my life than the comfort of Aladdin's feet. There is nothing I like to swallow more than the sweat of his feet. I want to lick his feet. I'm in love with Aladdin's feet. I want them....."
Razoul returned to lick Jafar's feet as he kissed Aladdin on the mouth. The two men cuddled in Jasmine's large soft bed, which had become Aladdin's, and while the Jester fanned the happy couple, they ignored him.
One evening, Jafar announced to Aladdin that he wanted to marry him and make him Queen of Agrabah. He would have no political power but would be Jafar's companion. Prostrated at the feet of the couple, the former sultan listened to the marriage proposal, he who had waited so long for his own daughter to marry.
Aladdin was so surprised that his first reaction was to ask if Sultan Jafar shouldn't consult the people before making such a decision. Jafar laughed and stroked Aladdin's cheek before asking him that he didn't have to care about the opinion of the people and rather him if he was happy with this marriage proposal.
Immediately, Aladdin, in response, stuck against Jafar's chest and he smothered him in his great royal cloak. Larger in size compared to Aladdin, Jafar stroked his beloved's hair while the humiliated old Sultan had only to kiss the bottom of the new Sultan's robe.
The Sultan's proclamation was read from the balcony by Razoul in his position as head of the army, and the inhabitants of Agrabah, gathered at the foot of the Palace, applauded with joy, but also in fear of being punished if they weren't doing it. During this time, the jester was carrying Jafar's heavy robe and Aladdin was massaging his master's shoulders and telling him sexy things to make Jafar more excited by this wedding. Jafar was realizing a new dream : being married to someone handsome and obedient. Yes, Aladdin was perfect for him.
Tumblr media
Several months of preparations to build the chariots of the sultan's procession where Aladdin and Jafar would take place for a tour through the capital, before a honeymoon through all of Agrabah, but also in the conquered provinces, so that the people know what resembles the Sultan and his Queen.
On the day of the wedding, the regents had been invited to represent all the cities and all the kingdoms conquered by the army of Agrabah. Razoul had only one desire, to lick Aladdin's feet. The jester, former sultan, was publicly humiliated at court, while the rejoicings were extraordinarily luxurious.
Jafar arrived in the Palace wedding hall wearing a long royal coat lined with thick red, black and white furs, as well as countless diamonds and precious stones collected by slaves from the mines, and his turban was adorned with a very voluminous rubies. The train of the sultan's coat was so long that it took several minutes before the former Sultan arrived, carrying the end of the royal train. Even the parrot Iago wore a gold-embroidered turban.
Then came Aladdin, and the whole assembly held their breath when they saw him. His long white robe was embroidered with gold and he wore a long veil over his head, held in his black hair by a tiara adorned with jasmine flowers. A bouquet of flowers completed his outfit. The simplicity of his dress, apart from a gold necklace, provided a contrast to Jafar's luxurious attire.
When he lifted Aladdin's wedding veil to kiss him, all the guests applauded. The kiss lasted several minutes, Jafar was so happy.
Jafar had slipped the Sultan's diamond ring around Aladdin's finger, which he had once used to find the Innocence Diamond. This diamond of innocence being none other than Aladdin, it was normal for him to wear it.
After the wedding ceremony, Sultan Jafar and his husband Queen Aladdin danced together, then Aladdin danced for Jafar.
Razoul, who watched the scene while remaining vigilant for the safety of the Sultana family, thought of only one thing: the sweat from Aladdin's feet. The more he danced the more Aladdin had to sweat from his feet, and Razoul was now in love with Aladdin's feet so he had a burning urge to lick them clean.
After dancing, Aladdin joined his husband and master at the table, before feeding him delicious food from the huge wedding banquet, while rubbing his cock over his thick, diamond-embroidered robe.
Under the bridal banquet table, slaves licked Jafar's feet, though those who were once Princesses and Princesses of conquered kingdoms were able to take advantage of an exceptional moment of freedom to reunite with people from their former court or members of their family. This generous gesture allowed Jafar to gain popularity with the regents, as well as with the people who were able to celebrate the sultan's marriage for several days.
After a week, it was time for Sultan Jafar and "Queen" Aladdin to begin their journey through the kingdom and its provinces. Leaving the capital on the huge golden floats that had been used for their entrance at their wedding, the couple greeted the people, who admired the Sultan and her handsome husband. Feminized slaves were tasked with fanning the sultan couple who either stood or sat on thrones and soft cushions, but in either case waved to the crowd.
Aladdin did not forget his humble origins and had gold coins distributed to the inhabitants, even if in general the economy of Agrabah had been more prosperous since the beginning of the Sultanate of Jafar.
If Aladdin was gentle and generous, Jafar did not forget to show his power and his natural cruelty. Slaves, tall, muscular men (although some were more muscular than others) pulled the royal chariots and carried the couple's belongings on their backs. These men were not just anyone: they were former soldiers of the army of the kingdom which had tried to rebel against Agrabah. They were therefore regularly whipped.
In addition to showing the people what their rulers look like, the grand tour was meant to show what happens to the soldiers of the rebellious armies.
At each stage of the journey, Sultan Jafar and Queen Aladdin were acclaimed by the people, received many presents from the local elites and then the sovereign of the country, before being offered a sumptuous palatial room where they made love passionately.
Upon their return to Agrabah, Razoul had the happiness of being able to lick his lovers, that is, Aladdin's feet. Then, Jafar and his husband fell asleep in each other's arms, surrounded by piles of soft pillows and cushions, the lean Jafar caressing Aladdin's muscular body. Meanwhile, the old jester was licking Jafar's feet and Razoul those of Aladdin. The two servile men licked Aladdin's and Jafar's feet all night.
From that day on, not a morning or a night passed without Jafar having his feet licked by two slaves, and Aladdin by Razoul. Even when fucking, Aladdin and Jafar had their feet licked. Similarly, Jafar used a slave's tongue after he went to the toilet. After all he is so superior.
Tumblr media
Jafar and Aladdin loved to make love while the old jester was forced to fan them, but especially to read them the act of their marriage or poems describing the beauty of their love.
"Sultan Jafar, that intelligent man,
Isn't just the greatest wizard of all time.
He is also happy to be married to a sublime boy.
Aladdin, this pretty kitten,
Lives in the palace as Queen
But he reigns above all on one thing:
Jafar's heart."
Despite his thinness, Jafar crushed his body on that of Aladdin, and also liked to make love wearing his sultans clothes, he who had waited so long before being able to live in luxury without thinking about the future.
However, one thing about the future worried him, and he set to work to fix it...
Jafar was so efficient in his management of the kingdom that he had plenty of time to enjoy himself. One of his greatest pleasures was to see Aladdin fuck an enslaved prince or princess, because it was exciting to know that they, men from the lower working classes, even very modest in the case of Aladdin, were now the masters of former royal heirs. If Jafar was excited to see Aladdin fuck slaves, he also loved seeing him kiss another feminized boy.
Jafar's other great pleasure was watching Iago shove cookies into the former Sultan's mouth, dressed as a jester and held by marionette strings. He was humiliated by the court, as harem slaves were asked to treat him as a human pet.
What Jafar was working on was two potions. The first was to slow his aging, which was aided by the fact that he was already the most powerful wizard in the universe. The other potion was a potion that allowed the handsome Queen Aladdin to keep his youth and beauty as long as possible.
Jafar was the happiest of men. The former Princess Jasmine was married in a distant kingdom and would never be seen again. His father was now the court jester of Agrabah.
Jafar would be Sultan for a very long time. Powerful and feared, respected by the people who revered him as much for his power and his political intelligence as for his magical powers, Jafar was served by many slaves, whom he did not hesitate to take pleasure in torturing at the slightest disobedience, or for no reason. He was happy to be married to someone he really loved, someone who would stay young and hot for a long time and just for his pleasure.
As for Aladdin, the handsomest man in Agrabah, he had been defeated, bewitched but had fallen in love with that tall, thin man Jafar, whose beard and cock he stroked, whose hands and ass he licked, and for which he was grateful that he was made Queen of Agrabah.
Yes, Sultan Jafar was happy, and a life full of pleasures awaited him. And he deserved it.

HISTOIRE FICTIVE PERSONNELLE
INSPIRร‰E PAR UN FILM D'ANIMATION Disney #9
ALADDIN (1992) #2
- LE SULTAN JAFAR ET L'ESCLAVE AIM
Cela commenรงait ร  devenir lassant d'avoir juste des personnes craintives face ร  soi.
ALADDIN : "Oui Gracieuse Majestรฉ, vos jardins sont splendides. J'aime m'y trouver."
SULTAN JAFAR : "Mais vous y รชtes seul !"
ALADDIN : "Eh bien, Votre Altesse, Bouffon me tient compagnie.
ALADDIN : "Avec grand plaisir, Votre Sรฉrรฉnissime Grandeur."
SULTAN, dรฉsormais BOUFFON : "Maรฎtre, vous me regardez ?"
RAZOUL : "Oui Votre Altesse. .... J'arrive...."
Voir ce grand mรขle puissant lui obรฉit plaisait ร  Aladdin, mรชme si son ensorcellement lui empรชchait de se souvenir avec exactitude pourquoi il en voulait vraiment ร  Razoul.
Razoul s'agenouilla.
ALADDIN : "Razoul, viens me masser les pieds."
RAZOUL : "Oui Votre Altesse."
ALADDIN : "Supplie moi, j'y consentirais peut-รชtre...."
JAFAR, Sultan d'Agrabah : "Continue, Razoul. Je veut voir comment tu sers mon amour."
RAZOUL : "Oui Votre Grandeur Jafar !"
JAFAR : "Razoul, vient vers moi."
RAZOUL, hypnotisรฉ : "J'aime les pieds d'Aladdin.
Mรชme le perroquet Iago portait un turban brodรฉ d'or.
Sa longue robe blanche รฉtait brodรฉe d'or et il portait un long voile par-dessus la tรชte, tenue dans ses cheveux noirs par un diadรจme ornรฉe de fleurs de jasmins.
Aladdin n'oubliait pas ses origines modestes et fit distribuer des piรจces d'or aux habitants, mรชme si de maniรจre gรฉnรฉrale l'รฉconomie d'Agrabah รฉtait plus prospรจre depuis le dรฉbut du sultanat de Jafar.

hiii for the ask thingy โ˜บ๏ธ 1, 4, 8, 15, 16, 21, 23, 27, 28; 30
omg sorry i totally forgot i reblogged the ask game a while back ๐Ÿ˜“ hehe.. thank you for sending these!!! this got long so i added a read more lmao
1 -3 things you wish for- that i stop procrastinating the projects i wanna work on, that i can find a better job than my current one sometime this year, that my dogs could have the same lifespan as me
4 -3 topics youโ€™d love to learn more about- well currently iโ€™ve been reading all about numerology and i rly want to learn more and more about it lmao. and cinema in general has been a current obsession for the past couple years for me, i didnโ€™t watch movies much when i was younger but now i just really really love to watch a movie, then look up and read pplโ€™s thoughts about it, and any stories about the making of process whether itโ€™s about the costuming, special effects, filming process, or writing process, read up on the subject matter whether itโ€™s based on a book or a historical setting, or reading about any actors that stood out to me.. idk just like anything that peaked my interest or curiosity while watching the film, anything to have a more firm and in depth grasp about the story and the people who worked on it. i especially love to read about silent films!!! but yea itโ€™s a very fun process and thereโ€™s always more movies to watch amd learn about!! and i guess the third topic i want to learn more about is doll making lmao
8 -3 tv shows you never get bored of- tbh for this iโ€™m gonna answer with some of my favorite animes bc thatโ€™s what i have a tendency to rewatch the most lmao: mob psycho 100, cowboy bebop, death note
15 -3 quotes that have a special place in your life- sorry the only thing thatโ€™s coming to mind is โ€œask me if i give a motherfuck ?!!โ€ -zayn malik
16 -3 drinks youconsume the most- omg definitely water, matcha lattes/milk teas w boba/smoothies (i consider those basically the same drink but with varying degrees of frozenness lmao), and mint tea. i wanna give a special shout out to any mango flavored drinks tho, which given the opportunity i will always gravitate to but like this is too broad a category to fairly consider it my most consumed drink u know?.. lmao โ™ฅ๏ธŽ
21 -3 things youโ€™re passionate about- iโ€™ve always been and always will be obsessed with self expression and the infinite ways that can manifest through a person, but for me personally the 3 expressions that fill me with the most love, inspiration, and passion are fashion, home decor, and the creation and curation of art(visual art, music, film, etc).
23 -3 songs you listen to while cleaning- brand new start- little joy, rehab- amy winehouse, when i was your man- bruno mars (i donโ€™t rly listen to him lmao but this song is imprinted in my brain bc it would often play on the radio at closing at my first job and idk something about sweeping an empty fast food restaurant after hours while this song played felt so right)
27 -3 thing you wish you did more often- travel, go out with friends more, go to more concerts
28 -3 things you love cooking/baking- omg my current favorite dish to make is.. well i donโ€™t have a name for it but itโ€™s like fried/sauteed diced potatoes and i usually improvise it depending on what i have in my fridge to go with it and what flavor iโ€™m craving. so it pretty much always includes potato, onion, and tomato, but it can also have mushrooms, eggs, any plant based protein (my faves are soy chorizo, those likeโ€ฆ. vegan chicken strips idk what theyโ€™re actually called, or just chopped up veggie patties), peas, lentils, etc. and it can be seasoned pretty much any way but my faves are a tomato based sauce or something like butter and garlic. lmao idk itโ€™s rly good and highly customizable. oh and i guess my other fave dishes to make are ramen (again super customizable) and a frittata or quiche if iโ€™m feeling more ambitious and have the time :-))))!!!!!!!!!
30 -3 moments youโ€™ll never forget- when my sister and i were teenagers we were once reenacting the helena music video and my sister was doing the helena ghost dance and at the end she let herself fall back onto the couch and the couch literally broke lmaoooooooo, like the wooden beam that was holding up the seat cushions literally snapped in two rip she didnโ€™t get hurt or anything and i literally canโ€™t listen to this song without hearing the loud crack of the wood in my head and dying of laughter. also when my childhood dog (a small little white poodle) jumped onto the dinner table and gobbled up a whole block of cheese in the 5 seconds my family and i looked away to look at a bird that was outside our window lmaoo, AND OF COURSE the absolute hysteria of the beginning my mcr show where gerard walked out wearing the cheerleader dress and holding the blowtorch!!!!!!

@onihcinimkcin said before we started it that there was a good movie inside shang-chi and the legend of the ten rings trying albeit not very hard to get out and i think that's true. i think in that better movie awkwafina and shang-chi are closer to true co-leads than they are here, and also the beginning of the movie does more work to set them up as these kind of sad losers lying to themselves about how much they're enjoying their lives. highlight awkwafina's fear of failure thread more strongly from the start, and make shang-chi more obviously fucked up and someone who is kind of frozen in this stasis and isolation outside of that one friendship. simu liu plays him basically as an affable everyman and it works fine up at the start but casts an increasingly weird lens on the film as his backstory of trauma piles up to eventually reveal that not only did he run away from home at 14, but he was raised to be a child assassin, and oh also on top of that he watched his mom get brutally murdered by his father's enemies when he was like seven and then his dad made him watch him brutally murder all those enemies a couple days later and then when he was 14 he killed the man who killed his mom. like. WHAT. this man is NOT dysfunctional enough to be carrying that kind of baggage around. so in the other movie he's more obviously a fuck-up sort of numbing himself out and running from his capabilities or the possibility of doing anything ever, and awkwafina who i know has a character name and i actually thought was pretty good in this but has such a distinctive voice even now that she's dropped the blaccent that i can't not call her awkwafina, she is basically doing the same thing but with much smaller stakes. and then the movie is still a big dumb fantasy adventure but the human core of it is a movie about two young kinda-adults facing their fears of growing up, which are really fears of failure, of trying, of being their whole selves, which means their weaknesses but also their strengths. the outline of this concept is inside the movie but the movie doesn't actually do anything with it. it's like a paint by numbers but only the outline and the numbers. i'm not asking for revolutionary filmmaking but i feel like they should at least paint the numbers themselves.
in this better movie i think also a really easy improvement to make to the last face-off scene with his dad is that when shang-chi squares off with his dad again ready to be an actual threat this time, we drop the strings & brass and bring back the hip hop adjacent beats we got earlier in the movie, which was like the best thing this movie had going for it - that bus fight is one of my favorite marvel fight scenes ever and it's not because it was much better than they usually are, it's literally just because the soundtrack slapped - and which would also be a way of being like, "i'm not my father's terrified son anymore, I Am My Own Person, Who Checks Out Mozart While He Does Tae-Bo Listens To Hip Hop While Doing Whatever Cool Shit Michelle Yeoh Taught Me Like Three Scenes Ago"
also a better movie has way more clarity on how sympathetic it wants his dad to be because this one went from "you have always been afraid of me" / "you raised me to be an assassin" to "your family needs you dad" / [heroic sacrifice]... too quickly. i'm not inherently opposed to deathbed redemptions and think that the guard sacrificing himself in thor ragnarok is one of like 5 genuinely powerful moments the mcu has ever had. but that happened too fast.
i mean in a perfect world also the movie would not look like shit all the time and the martial arts inspired fight scenes would not just remind me that there are literally hundreds of movies that have shot martial arts to look cool as hell while this movie refuses to ever look even a little bit cool and also there would not be SOMEthing i can't articulate going on in the directing where by the third act big marvel battle scene even the actors seem over it and nobody at any point seems to care that much about anything and at one point tony leung and michelle yeoh are facing off and it's totally dead air with no dynamism or intrigue and you're like ok i'm a film idiot who doesn't know movie words but there has to be some reverse movie magic going here in the directing or editing or cinematography or SOMETHING because i know that these two actors acting at each other SHOULD be a lot more intriguing than this. but like. we can't have it all and i'm trying to be realistic. this is why i also did not mention that this better movie would not descend into mind-numbingly stupid-looking and bafflingly inert aerial combat in the third act, because like, again, i know who i'm dealing with i know kevin makes them agree to it when they sign their contracts.
anyway. i liked the karaoke scenes, having non-english dialogue scenes in a marvel movie, awkwafina's green pants which were the only thing in this movie that did not look ugly or tacky as hell, and the bananas idiotic yet delightful return of TREVOR, who was already one of the best ideas in the very best movie (iron man 3) and who i can't believe they brought back here to be a weird goofy plot device but i'm glad he's cleaned up and is in his own way thriving. also as far as CGI critters go i did enjoy morris, a fuzzball with two butts and peacock-colored wings. solid concept, no notes.

For the questions game: 3, 15, 29, 30.
Thanks for asking! Man, I write a lot with these things, so again, here's the cut first.
3: 3 Films. Hmm...I don't typically sit down long enough to watch a movie even ONCE and I rarely watch a movie more than once, but....
50/50 is a film I found moving and hilarious---really appreciated its portrayal of the dumbass friend who is wildly out of his depth but still trying to show up, and the reality that this is actually among the most powerful kinds of love humans can experience.
Departures is a lovely little Japanese indie thing about a failed artist who becomes a mortician--it has some nice thoughts about death, family, and living with integrity in the face of social expectations one can't meet.
Portrait of a Lady on Fire is really beautifully shot and atmospheric, and has angst and forbidden love and period details, so what's not to love and watch over and over again.
15 The word "home." Hmm.. I have a complicated relationship with where I grew up, and I've lived in a fair few places since, always with deep ambivalence about my American identity. I guess if I were to Think Deeply <squints and does so>, what comes most to mind is when I lived in New Zealand and studiedย Mฤori language and culture: when you met other people, the tradition was that you'd recite the story of yourself, including your Tลซrangawaewae--your home, the place where you belong, the roots you draw on. The word's literal meaning is "standing place", drawn from the words for 'position' and 'foot'. I didn't really know how to recite that part of my story, and I learned to say, in Mฤori, "my standing place is within myself." My handle on tumblr and Ao3 is taken from that word.
29 When I am sad. I listen to music--I have a playlist for exactly this, with tunes and lyrics that help me feel connected to the sadness of others and have elements of comfort I can take for myself. I reach out to friends, and remind myself how blessed I am to be able to do so. I sometimes make a point to eat a small delicious thing. I remind myself both that feelings are important and acceptable, and that feelings pass.
30 Love is cool, art transcendent, nature spectacular, and innocent children forever a source of inspiration and hope, but...peanut butter frozen yogurt will never fail to make me happy/happier.

One other thing thatโ€™s really problematic about Steveโ€™s ending in Avwngers: Endgame, I think, is what it says about dealing with trauma.
Iโ€™ll explain. So, along with Bucky clearly being main part of Steveโ€™s storyline, I also feel like the main theme in Steveโ€™s story is dealing with and overcoming trauma. The trauma of loss, PTSD, and of having to find his place in the world after coming out of the ice.ย
A few examples of that being made more or less explicit are these:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here we see Steve struggling to find himself and find people who get what heโ€™s been through.
In the conversation between Steve and Sam at the VA, Sam is showing Steve that heโ€™s not alone, that there are people whoย relate. Now, obviously noone else has had the experience of being frozen for 70 years only to wake up in a different time. But at the core, Steveโ€™s trauma consists of human experiences that are not at all uncommon: Loss, guilt, and trouble finding oneself after coming back from a traumatic experience.ย
Sam does this the first time they meet as well, when he asks Steve ifย โ€œitโ€™s his bed thatโ€™s too softโ€, showing him that he relates to what heโ€™s going though, and making him aware that what he is experiencing is not an uncommon thing to struggle with as a war veteran.
At the VA, he tells him about loosing hisย โ€œwingmanโ€ and not being able to save him, which almost relates 1:1 to the story of Steve losing Bucky in CA: TFA.
Important note: This not only makes Steve realize that there are people that relate to his trauma, it also Steveโ€™s trauma relatable to the viewers- Which in my opinion, gives the creators a responsibility to treat that part of his storyline properly and delicatelyย - which I actually think that they do to some degree, up until Endgame.
Tumblr media
When Steve visits Peggy, she encourages him to start over, and move forward. What I think she is saying here isnโ€™s that we shouldnโ€™t grieve, but rather that in dealing with trauma, we have to accept thatย we canโ€™t go back.ย The trauma wonโ€™t magically go away, because it has happened. And trying our best to move forward is the best that we can do.
The way I read it,ย  what she is also doing, is that sheโ€™s saying goodbye, and telling him not to linger, but to move on, and live, ensuring him that she has already done so.
This again at itโ€™s core, is something a lot of us can relate to - grieving for a lost love. And Peggy says it beautifully -ย โ€œthe best we can do is start overโ€ - it wonโ€™t make you happy, expecting that in a couple of years youโ€™ll find some stone thatโ€™ll magically take you back in time to that first love that you thought was going to last forever... oh...
Okay, moving on:
So the thing is, that I think Steve does move on, to some extend. In the CA: TWS we see Steve establishing relationships based on deeper connections and shared experiences with both Natasha
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As well as with Sam (see/read above)
Another important example is when Steve and Sam first meet and Sam asks how it is for Steve to have woken up in the future.
Tumblr media
In his answer, Steve is focusing on the positive sides to being in the future, which can be read as Steve healthily dealing with his situation, but it also depicts the nuances of trauma.
What I mean by that, relates back to what Peggy was saying:ย โ€œWe canโ€™t go backโ€. Our trauma wonโ€™t magically dissappear, and then everything is all good. In order to move on, we have to accept that we will be carrying some of that baggage with us.ย
But that doesnโ€™t mean that we canโ€™t move on, that it will always be all bad. In this clip, Steve weโ€™re right at the start of CA: TWS, and this is Steveโ€™s first time meeting Sam, before knowing that Bucky is alive, and before having made any friends in the future. And what heโ€™s saying isย โ€œYeah, I miss my old life, Iโ€™ve been through something traumatic, but nothing is black and white, and I can appreciate the things that I have nowโ€.
In CA: CW and the later Avengers movies, Steveโ€™s continues developing new friendships, establishes somewhat of a life, and makes meaningful decisions for himself, based on his own ideals. He gets to grieve for Peggy, and even tries dating. (The whole Steve/Shannon debacle and the way she was treated, is a discussion for a whooleย โ€˜nother day btw).
The fact that Steve gets to have Bucky back is of course already streching it in terms of realistic reprensentation of trauma. But I think that can be allowed, given that avenging Bucky and finding a tie between his old self, somebody who knew him all along, and now, makes up a complete storyline, that, aside from working really well, also tells a beautiful story about friendship.
(I mean the wholeย โ€œone soulmate presumably dies, the other wakes up 70 years later, alone and feeling guilty, and it turns out his soulmate is actually alive, having been made a dangerous asset controlled by the enemy?? *cheff kiss* who comes up with that shit - okay, I might be little bit biased in this) :):):)
- Back to the point!
So, to sum up:ย
Steve starts off feeling completely alone because of the unique nature of of his trauma, and realizes that at the core of it, there are people who can actually relate to what he is going throughย (the grief of a lost love, the loss of a friend and the guilt of not being able to save them, struggling with finding yourself as well as your place in the world, in the aftermath of a traumatic experience).
He moves on and begins letting people in, letting himself grieve and establishes new ties that bind him to his surroundings, when he finds out that there is no going back, only forward, and he is in fact not alone with his experience og trauma.
Now, Idk about those of you guys that have had to go through either one of the above or other types of trauma, but to me, this process doesnโ€™t sound unfamiliar.ย
I think that a lot of the reason why so many of us fell in love with Capโ€™s story, with the relationship between Steve and Bucky, Sam and Natasha, and the reason why these relationships are so inspired and well-written and exciting to examine in fandom content, is because this is a beautiful story about overcoming trauma in a nuanced and realistic way, of finding out that youโ€™re not alone, and of using that knowledge to move forward.ย
When Steve finally gets Bucky back, everything isnโ€™t back to normal or okay. They both have still lost, both others and parts of themselves, and they still have to process a lot of trauma, and find their place in a new time.ย
But thatโ€™s okay, because overcoming trauma is possible, even if it doesnโ€™t magically go away. And it will be okay, because they have someone by their side who can get what theyโ€™re going through.ย
And I think a lot of us relate to that. And I also think that thatโ€™s a really important representation of trauma and of friendship and love (be it platonic or otherwise) between men, within a far-reaching franchise such as the MCU.
But oh no, MCU just had to get in a frantic Gay Panic over the fact that people fell for these beautiful dynamics and were inspired to create stories and art examining that, to more explicitely fit the reprensentation that they need, that they threw all of out the window, just to go out of their way in both Infinity War and Endgame, to ensure that there could be interpreted exactly zero Gayness between Steve and Bucky, and not even the smallest possibility of Steve not being 100% straight would be left open,
Leading to an ending that is the exact opposite of a healthy narrative when it comes to dealing with trauma:
- Little guy gets the buff body and the Girl, and then all the bad was gone and everything was perfect -ย
While completely ignoring the fact that heโ€™s leaving his life and his friends behind, to go to a place where he knows nobody and his best friend is actively being tortured, and Steve will have to not be noticed in the past, probably leading to a very isolated life.
And thus, MCU managed to fuck up when it comes to appreciating their LGBTQ+ audience, representing healthy depictions of coping with trauma, as well as male friendship and non-toxic masculinity.
Only for this short clip, that would leave us all very dissapointed and confused:
Tumblr media
Way to go.ย
Thanks for reading, if you made it this far:)

They said she should bring a bathrobe.
Not that Anna wasnยดt familiar with cameras or photo shootings, but this was simply different. Never mind, they offered her good money, and she could use the extra plus. Still, she hadnยดt told anyone about this side job since she doubted anybody would really understand. Her sister had frowned and scolded her on that absurd idea.
โ€œSeriously, Anna, body doubling?โ€
โ€œRelax, Elsa,โ€ she had laughed it off, โ€œitยดs only mimicking a position and nothing more. The real stuff is done by the real actors. Itยดs all for technical reasons. We are cheaper than the high scored actors for preparationโ€™s sake.โ€
โ€œUhmโ€ฆ and what if your doubling-partner is a complete jerk?โ€
โ€œOh Elsa,โ€ Anna had giggled to that one, โ€œitยดs just a few hours job, okay? I wonยดt have to do anything indecent and then marry the man on the set, alright?โ€
โ€œNothing indecent?! Anna! Youยดll be naked all the time, and him, too, I assume?โ€
โ€œYou never make such a fuss when I pose for the fashion magazine and only wear some delicate underwear?โ€
โ€œWell, sis, you then sit or stand alone and have no naked guy sort of grabbing at you from behind, under you orโ€ฆ. ohhhhhh, can we stop that conversation? It gives me the rest!โ€
โ€œYou started it!โ€
โ€œOh, fine! Off you go and then, you tell me every little single detail of how this worked, okay?โ€
โ€œOkay!โ€ Anna chirped and off she was for her plus job on which she in fact had no idea of. Gerda had been the one suggesting the chance to her. Since Anna was determined to finish the art school but wanted to pay the fees all by herself, some extra salary could not hurt. And dear Gerda had good connections to film sets and other magazines. She was the most efficient correspondent that ยดArendelle fashion magazineยด could dream of.
By now, she had arrived at the large mansion that was meant to be her place of work for the next few weeks. Looked nice and solid, hopefully the team would be as sincere as the house made the impression.
โ€œHi, you must be Anna? Iยดm David, the technical manager and producerยดs assistant. Weยดll start in an instant. Meanwhile you might like to get acquainted with your work partner?โ€
The winding staircase reminded of some old costume movie and Anna daydreamed of Rose coming down those steps in her red spangled dress from Titanic. She bit her lips as not to laugh when she thought about the movie that was about to be filmed in those rooms.
โ€œHi, Iยดm Anna. Uhm, Iยดm supposed toโ€ฆโ€
โ€œOf course,โ€ a young woman smiled at her and fiddled with her paper sheets, โ€œIยดm Samantha and the girl for everything if you want and in case you need anything, just let me know, okay?โ€
โ€œThanks, I appreciate this. Uhmโ€ฆ I should meet myโ€ฆ you know, the other oneโ€ฆโ€ Anna chuckled, shrugging off her nervousness that started to mess with her stomach, now that she saw all those people running around and measuring stuff, putting up all sorts of light panels and other technical equipment. Gosh, this place reminded of a bee stuck.
โ€œOh, yes, sure.โ€ Samantha laughed and then motioned to the window on the other side of the large room, where a rather tall man was looking out into the park.
โ€œHeยดs over there. Just go and introduce yourself. Oh, and donยดt worry. Heยดs a bit short in communication but otherwise heยดs totally nice. But since you have no text to speak, I think it doesnยดt really matter, right?โ€
Samantha laughed with a hearty giggle and then turned to talk to one of the light technicians.
Anna grimaced โ€“ yeah, no text, very funny โ€“ and she braced herself to meet her partner. Ah, but wait, Samantha had not even told her his name. Oh, wellโ€ฆ.
โ€œHi, Iยดm Anna, and I was told that we would, uhm, ah, oh, uhm, do this here together?โ€
The man turned and Anna stared up into the warmest brown eyes she had ever seen in her life. Good that there was no text to learn because she might just as well had forgotten all the lines that very instant.
Shit, get yourself together!
โ€œHi, Anna. I am Kristoff.โ€
โ€œHi Kristoff.โ€ Anna put a tendril behind her ear and smacked her lips.
Oh, that voiceโ€ฆ. Good that they had no text because she could not keep one line in her head with that voiceโ€ฆ Crap, shit, fuck, stop thatโ€ฆ.
Blond Tarzan spoke again, โ€œso, you have done that before then?โ€
Anna shrugged and grinned, โ€œwell, sort of. Iยดm modelling for a fashion magazine normally. So, yes, the camera stage is not new to me. Only that I normally wear some clothesโ€ฆ And you?โ€
โ€œSort of, yes. I normally do stunts, or then I guide visitors up the mountains.โ€
Anna gaped with her mouth dropped and then she blinked, โ€œoh, you mean, you do all that dangerous stuff like jumping from planes and out of driving cars and such?โ€
โ€œYeah, that, too.โ€ Kristoff grinned, shoving his hands into his jeanโ€™s pockets, โ€œonly that I always wear some clothes, too.โ€
Anna laughed completely relieved at that matching humour so far and shrugged, โ€œyeah, the closest Iยดve come so far were some hot dessous.โ€
โ€œThen youยดre better off a start than me.โ€
โ€œDonยดt worry. After all, youยดre the one used to risk the scary stuff, right?โ€
โ€œYeah, maybe.โ€
They both looked around to observe all the fuss for preparations when David approached them.
โ€œOkay, you two, can we start? We thought of doing some simple stuff to sort of warm you both up a bit, okay? The trickier parts can be postponed.โ€
Oh dearโ€ฆ Anna took a deep breath and turned to follow Kristoff who started to put off his coat. Well, that wasnยดt so bad so farโ€ฆ
โ€œOkay,โ€ David shouted through the room, โ€œfirst go for the daylight scenes. Could you please undress your upper body for the start?โ€
Kristoff and Anna looked at each other and then at David.
โ€œWho do you mean?โ€ Kristoff asked for them both.
โ€œBoth of you of course!โ€

Life With Sammy
Tumblr media
enjoy these little slices of life that I wrote based on a song that really doesn't mean anything but gave me the idea
inspired by Sentimental by WMD
Before Sammy
Life wasโ€ฆ..fine. You were living and things werenโ€™t bad but things just felt a little hollow. Every rainstorm or trip to the art museum or meal cooked for one was nice in a lot of ways but you couldnโ€™t help but look around sometimes and feel like it would be nice to have someone there to share it with. Over time the light and color started to drain and each day was just more of the same. The small voice inside you saying it just wasnโ€™t going to happen, time to make peace with being alone.
But then there is Sammy. He barrels into your life all big blue eyes, loud laughs, and warm hugs. You soon realize life with Sammy means moreโ€ฆ
Laughter
He was laughing at you. This boy had the nerve to laugh at you even after you told him you had never learned how to skate. Sammy was managing to keep his amusement to soft chuckles as you wobbled along the wall of the Blues practice rink during a pre-season family skate.
โ€œCome on babe, just slow down and watch me.โ€ Sammy said as he helped you off the ice after your fourth fall in the last ten minutes. You werenโ€™t one to stay patient while learning a new skill because your perfectionistic streak took over which was causing your brain to move faster than your feet could learn.
You let out a heavy sigh and took his hands as he proceeded to skate backward with infuriating ease. You focused your attention on his skates to try and pick up on what he was doing. Just as you thought you were getting the hang of it, Sammy's right skate caught a gash in the ice and he flailed backward dragging you down with him. There was a short moment of panic on your part when Sammy stayed quiet and still on the ice after you landed on top of him with his head tucked into your neck. Then after a few excruciating seconds, you felt him start to chuckle and you breathed a sigh of relief.
You both just laid there laughing to yourselves for a minute before he said โ€œOkay, not that I don't love having you on top of me but letโ€™s save it for when we get home.โ€
This sent you into another fit of blushing and giggling which you tried to hide by tucking your face back into Sammyโ€™s shoulder. When you did finally manage to get yourself up off the ice Sammy still looked overly proud of himself that he had made you blush that hard.
Rain
You were sitting in Sammyโ€™s car one night in the rain and just talking about life. Nothing and everything. Solving the world's problems and ranking the best place to get frozen custard in town. The rain is hitting the car just hard enough that it blocks out any noise from the outside world and creates a little bubble in time and space. It is only you two and the rest of the world is far away. The light from the streetlights coming through the rain-covered windows is lighting up his face in the most gorgeous way. The raindrops are casting shadows that cascade down the side of his face and make the shine of his eyes that much brighter.
Beauty
Sammy is beautiful in the small moments
The way the summer sun brings out the auburn in his hair
The way his hand looked holding a wine glass
The furrow of his brows when he really focused on something
The way he always opened the door for you
The hugs after a long day
The way his voice sounds talking to your cat when he doesnโ€™t think you are in the room
The crooked smile he gives you in the morning
The way he blushes whenever you tell him how breathtaking he is
Sammy is beautiful in so many ways and you hope one day heโ€™ll actually believe you when you tell him
Relief
You arenโ€™t stupid. You know the risks of playing professional hockey. You had seen numerous guys go down with various injuries in your years as a hockey fan. But having that knowledge in your head couldnโ€™t prepare you for seeing Sammy crumpled in the corner after a crushing hit from you donโ€™t even know who. The play continues up the ice but you canโ€™t make yourself care as you watch Sammy lay still. Why havenโ€™t they blown the whistleโ€ฆ. don't they see him? Finally, Torey gains control of the puck and the refs blow play dead as Ray trots out onto the ice. Robby quickly skates over to help him get to Sammy as fast as possible. The arena has gone so quiet you are sure the people around you can hear your heart pounding. Sammy begins to stir just as Ray and Robby reach him and you let out a breath you didnโ€™t know you were holding. Okay. Heโ€™s moving. Thatโ€™s good. Vince and Rouzy deliver a couple more trainers from the bench and then join Robby who is hovering just far enough to be out of the way but close enough to feel involved.
After a long few minutes, Sammy gets to his feet mostly on his own, and after a second of leaning on Vince and one of the trainers he skates off by himself. You stay in your seat for a few minutes unsure of what to do until Sammy texts you telling you they are sending him home but they want you to drive. You are greeted by Sammyโ€™s widest smile as soon as you enter the training room. It makes you feel better that he isnโ€™t flat on his back and seems to be mostly normal.
He gingerly gets himself off the training table and gives you a hug.
โ€œYou okay?โ€ you ask into his shoulder
โ€œYeah babe, Iโ€™ll be okay. Just shaken up a bit so they donโ€™t want me driving homeโ€ he says after placing a kiss on the top of your head.
โ€œOkay good because I want you to stick around for a while,โ€ you say with a sigh.
โ€œDonโ€™t worry you are going to be stuck with me for a long timeโ€ Sammy punctuates his teasing with a poke to your ribs which gets a giggle out of you.
โ€œI think that is a burden I am willing to bear.โ€ you tease back and break into giggles when he sticks his tongue out at you.
โ€œAlright goofball letโ€™s go home and get you off your feetโ€
Quiet
Sammy has a bit of a reputation for being loud. And he is when he is out with friends or when he gets excited about something but he also has a quiet side. Your favorite times with Sammy were when he was just walking around the apartment in his comfy clothes, a glass of wine in hand trying to decide what movie to watch. It was just so quietly domestic and made your heart do all kinds of fluttery things.
One night he catches you just staring at him while he is puttering around the kitchen making himself a late-night snack. When he notices he just stops what he is doing and asks โ€œWhat?โ€
โ€œOh nothing.โ€ you say quickly looking away trying to hide your blush from being caught.
โ€œNo no, tell me.โ€ Sammy says as he circles around the kitchen island to stand in front of you and lean on the counter to block any potential escape.
โ€œItโ€™s- itโ€™s justโ€ฆ I donโ€™t know. Iโ€™m just really happy I get to see you like this.โ€ you say blushing and barely making eye contact. Feelings are hard okay.
โ€œ Like what?โ€ Sammy says with just an adorably confused look that twists your gut a little bit more.
You sigh a bit and take a moment to find the right words. โ€œJust this quiet side of you. I love your big and bubbly side but it is nice to know you are comfortable around me like this.โ€
Sammy looks at you still kinda confused, not saying anything and you begin to panic. โ€œYou know what, never mind just ignore me. Just go about your businessโ€
After a few moments of silence, you suddenly find yourself pressed into Sammyโ€™s chest as he tries to almost climb into your lap which is difficult since you were already perched rather precariously on the kitchen counter. You really canโ€™t do anything besides hug him back and chuckle a bit.
When Sammy pulls back he just takes your face in his hands and kisses you on the forehead. โ€œI love you babe. Of course Iโ€™m comfortable around you. So stare at me as much as you like.โ€ He gives you a cheeky wink and turns his attention back to his snack.
Pleasure
All the years around various trainers and medical staff must have been what gifted Sammy with the unique ability to consistently find the knot in your shoulder with devastating speed and accuracy. The first time you had asked him to give you a quick shoulder rub after a long day you were not prepared for the targeted attack of his thumbs on your shoulder blades. He actually got a little scared when you let out a little noise of pain after he found a particularly sore spot one night.
โ€œOh no, did I hurt you!? My mom says I donโ€™t know my own strength sometimes.โ€ You didnโ€™t even have to look back to imagine the way his eyebrows were knitted together with concern.
โ€œNo babe itโ€™s fine. Itโ€™s that โ€˜hurts so goodโ€™ kinda thing. Keep goingโ€ You reassure him while rolling your shoulders to encourage him to continue.
Sammy seemed less than convinced but resumed his task nonetheless. He seemed to be holding back a bit though until he found a particularly tough knot and really went to work on it. You couldnโ€™t hold in the winces and sighs as you felt the tension melt out of your body. It was your turn to be confused when you heard Sammy start quietly laughing behind you.
โ€œOh what now you are taking pleasure in my pain?โ€ you asked with more than a little sarcasm.
โ€œNo, itโ€™s just that I have only heard you make those noises underโ€ฆ.different circumstances.โ€ Sammy said with a smirk clearly heard in his voice.
You just rolled your eyes and turned to stick your tongue out at him because you couldnโ€™t really come up with any clever retort. Sammy just continued to look very proud of himself when you announced you were going to make popcorn and he better have a movie picked out by the time you got back.
Struggles
You would be lying if you said that Sammy being out of town so much for a large part of the year wasnโ€™t a strain on the relationship. You were the kind of person who really valued routine and knowing that your partner would be there when you got home most nights. You knew that that wasnโ€™t going to be possible with Sammy and it had actually been the reason you had turned him down the first time he asked you out but thankfully he had persisted and you had decided he was worth it in the end. There were still hard days though because you would come home wanting to cook dinner together and cuddle on the couch but would be greeted by only your cat who was a great cuddle buddy but no replacement for Sammy. On those nights you would call Sammy just to hear his voice and see his smiling face. You were also usually treated to a few guest appearances by Vince and Rouzy who seemed to be ever-present around Sammy on road trips.
So while you still have bad days and crave the stability of a partner with normal working hours you know you wouldnโ€™t trade Sammy for the world when he stumbled in the door dead on his feet but still trying to tell you every stupid thing Wally did and handing you some random airport trinket from whatever city the team had most recently visited.
Promise
Since Sammy had come into your life things had just felt better. You looked forward to getting up every day and seeing what was in store because you had someone to share it with. Sammy being in your life made you want to strive for more. He pushed you to be your best just like you did for him. You both made the other want to keep going to see where life would take you next. You never knew what was around the bend but you did know that you didnโ€™t have to face it alone anymore.
Life with Sammy means more of everything...

I was having a chat last night with @itsthefandommash about our favorites of my writing and it was really nice. <3 Just to fangirl about my own stuff with someone who is also a fan and get to hear our different favorite writing and why. I think it would be a really cool thing to do! So I wanted to do basically the same thing here and encourage others to get involved if you want! I know it can sometimes feel vain or like...you don't always enjoy your own stuff/judge it harshly but I think it can be neat!

N/SFW: In terms of my writing this is kinda hard. I think for myself, the *best* writing is my Sabo fic. I really enjoyed the writing for it and find it super sexy. However, my favorite in terms of plot I'd say my monster!Marco because it was shamelessly self-indulgent and just for me lol. I want art of Marco like that but I won't draw it or pay for it, so he lives on in my mind ahaha. (Followed closely in 3rd place is my Izou fic ahah.)
SFW: Easier if only because I don't have a ton that aren't songfics. A Frozen Date was really cute and I liked being inspired by a specific scene from a favorite movie of mine. <3 From the Songfics specifically, I'd say... Thatch because I got to write out my little headcanon that he has a twangy accent which I had never voiced before and enjoyed immensely. Also Koala from that same set, just because that song is *perfect* for her.
Gifted OCs
I started writing for other people's OCs which was nerve-wracking but I actually enjoyed it a lot! For different reasons:
Camellia in Bloom was my first one ever! But it was fun to explore someone else's character and try to build up a background that was understandable and meant something. I liked the tattooing aspects a lot.
Mechanically Minded because I got to do a mechanic OC and Bast gave me a ton of freedom. I also really liked how I wrote Law in this.
Smoke Break because I got to explore two characters who are similar but try to make them different enough to be interesting. Plus got to write for Smoker!
Birds of a Feather slightly self-indulgent because I wanted to write my friend's S/I and my OC anyway so I just *did* it ahaha.
But if this is something you think you'd like to do, I would recommend! Just fun to look back and see all that you've done. Look at your work from only a positive lens. (Also if you do, feel free to tag me! I'd love to see what you think of your own stuff.)
If you have any favorites of my writing, feel free to tell me! I'd love to hear what stood out to people and why. (*/

AURORAโ€™s Reddit Q&A (July 13th 2021)
Tumblr media
Kmilalv: Hello aurora we love you, I'm @ aurora.s_love on instagram โœจโœจ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿงšโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿงšโ€โ™€๏ธ Aurora: oh hellooo!!!! Exportmusic: Meep Aurora: meep < 3 Lisxnne: WELL HELLO AND THANKS FOR YOUR NEW SONG! ๐Ÿ™๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ’• Aurora: HELLO!! and thank you for being open to it 24681357900: Thank u for making music Aurora: thank you for inviting it into your heart Emergency-Club-7529: This is have some upper case , it's the real Aurora Aurora: yes!!! Helloooooo brunamombach: hello โœจ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿงš๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿ„๐Ÿงš๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ when are you coming do Brazil? so glad to see you here!!! Aurora: I think I will be coming to Brazil next year ย I love being in Brazil because I feel like it awakens my heart and soul to be there !! Brunamombach: if you were going to an souless island, what book would you bring with you? ๐Ÿงš๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿ„๐Ÿงš๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿƒ kisses from Brazil Aurora: I would either take: "The name of the wind" and "a Wise mans fear" or the LOTR trilogy. Or the "Mistborn" trilogy. or "warbreaker" or "the good omens" or "the ocean at the end of the lane" or "Anne of Green gables" or "The alchemist" or just all the books in the world oh no I cant decide
all DanParis: Hey have some karma you cool bean Aurora: thank you < 3 Ok-Estimate8468: Tell us something you can tell us about the second track on the Cure For Me vinyl, โ€œPotion For Loveโ€. I'm very curious...
Aurora: its the song I decided for the B-side of the vinyl, and I will probably release it digitally one day too. Its the sister song to "exist for love" but from the other perspective. where love does not fill you up, but love has left a big hole within you < / 3 Ok-Estimate8468: Did you get a lot of unfollows and hate from bad people due to Cure For Me? Aurora: I got a little hate from homophobes, and also abelist, and racist comments from people claiming there was nothing wrong with their mindset. BUT it does not bother me. and I will never stop speaking up about the things I find important. because.. what else would our meaning on this earth be? if that makes sense. Some people have attacked me personally, but sadly mostly its people defending their own hateful ways of being. I cant even imagine how it really is to be a victim of racism or violent homophobia, so I feel like the least I can do is to try the best I can to show support. and speak up. and be an ally.
So a bit more short - yes, and I really dont mind!!!! unfollow me if you find speaking about equality and the right to live, and love and be loved unsettling <3 thank you for this question! Ok-Estimate8468: How was the process of creating the studio version of Cure For Me? I heard your first acoustic performance and saw that it's much smoother than the studio, so I was curious to see how you managed to create another even more amazing version. Aurora: Me and Magnus just played around, and we really tried to go with our emotions, and to be playful and to not think too much about what was "AURORA" or what was even...pretty! we just laughed! and danced! and did what felt lovely to us.
I think this is why the making of this song is one of my favourite memories, and also I think that is why it sounds so playful! because it is!! it was like playing a game. and I did also play alot around with symbolics in both the lyrics and the way this song is produced. it all has a meaning you see... but of course I will let you figure that out yourself!!
Pingouiin_: What's your favourite mountain around bergen ? Aurora: mine is Lรธvstakken!! and Magnus loves Ullrikken!! but important to NEVER stop a Norwegian person walking on the mountain. just say. a quick hello and wander off your own mind. become at one with nature Whoamiandallthat: Thank you for existing, I love your art and you inspire me so much ๐Ÿ’™ You are one of my favorite artists ๐Ÿ˜Š And just the other day I found out that you are just two years older than me, and so successful... I'm wondering how it was for you to become so popular, did you feel like people thought you needed a cure? I'm also in the sphere of arts - filmmaking; but I feel like my films are not good enough... I have a YouTube channel with some videos - if you ever see this comment I would like for you to check it out ๐Ÿ˜Š Aurora: Ive felt through my life like something was a little off, ive never resonated that much with the people or the "system" around me! it didn't bother me so much even though I. was teased a lot for it ( so again I was very lucky) but I never felt like I understood the world and my place in it. or how I. could fit in, in this worlds society and with other people ! and becoming "famous" which I dont really feel that I am, but I guess that I am a little "known" (meep) was very strange, and very hard to handle at first. as impressions affect me a lot, and noises and people etc. but with time I got better at handling all these impressions, and avoid getting a.. sensory overload! and I am so happy now, that I can look directly at strangers and actually listen to them, and understand them, and even love them I guess what I am trying to say, that ive now understood that this is the very thing that connected me to all of you. and now I see my place here on this earth. and I see all of you, and you give my life so much meaning!! Lets_Fight_Dragons: Firstly I wanted to say I recently discovered your music and I love everything about it. I have two questions, I hope thatโ€™s ok 1. How do you start writing songs because Iโ€™m trying to get into songwriting and Iโ€™m not sure how you write such amazing songs 2. Whatโ€™s your favourite song youโ€™ve released? Aurora: 1. well I dont really know. ( I am sorry!!) but I feel like it started really natural for me.. I. kind of just sat down with my piano.. and then I started playing around with the Keyes, and I figured out I could make an endless amount of melodies by simply pressing the keys in a different order!! remember finding this extremely magical (I was around 6 years old then) and after a while I started adding lyrics, and I just spent time looking into myself, trying to figure out. - what do I want to say? what do. I need to hear in a song? what do the world need to hear in a song? and etc. I always think about songwriting as storytelling. and I always start out by figuring out what story I want to tell, what matter I want to dress, or what pleases me, or annoys me with the world, or what emotion I need help dealing with!! and then I write a song!!! and if you feel like its difficult to come up with melodies, I would recommend finding a song you like, and learn the chords of it (or find an instrumental version. online) and then you make your own melodies on top of that! many of the songs of the world share the same chords, and often the melodies on top is the thing separating them. music belongs to all of us, and its clear that every song in the world comes from the same magical source. 2. I think its the seed. or couples creatures!! or infections of a different kind!! tiffnoir: Our dear AURORA, your b-side A Potion For Love is helping me a lot (broken heart since a few days ago). I wanted to ask (if I can haha) if would it be included at the upcoming album, or maybe a relaxing, vintage video for it? Thanks for helping all of us with your music ^_^ Aurora: thank you som much for letting this song into your heart ย after writing exist for love, I figured that I should also make a sister-song that could belong for the ones with a broken heart as well ย it will not be on the album, but for you I will try to put it on the deluxe version FedahpWithThisWurld: Hello, Aurora! I'm a neurodivergent person and I have always felt a lot of shame over being the way I am, like I'm not good enough. Your music makes me feel better and it makes me feel that being me is okay. Thank you for that. ย I want to know how you manage to be so confident? Do you ever get nervous before a show? Aurora: hello!!!! I have had a lot of similar experiences with myself in this world too.. so I am very sad to hear you've lived your life with this feeling I think after a while I understood what makes me different also makes me special. and special is good. and if you think about it, special isn't even that different, because in one way or another we are all... unique. but of course, some people have had to fight their. way through life more than others.. making it less easy to learn how to love yourself. and accept yourself. I guess, now I've surrounded myself with good people who understand my quirks and sensitivities, people who give me time. and space to be me. I have also been lucky, because I have a family that have always encouraged me to be myself. and to love myself. and I guess that is why I am trying to convey to all of you now, because now we are like al little family. where being who you are - is cool. and you're cool. and were all cool. and I get nervous all the time, of all sorts of things! but I just accept that feeling as a part of being human. its uncomfortable yes, but I know at least it won't kill me! 3charmplease: What was it like recording for Frozen? Aurora: it was magical ย and also slightly scary. but it felt safe and good calling at the mountains. and I feel warm thinking about it. especially now. cause my father just walked over to me with five little strawberries in his hand. he gave them all to me. and they were so small, and sweet. im currently sitting in my childhood home, right next to the very piano where I wrote "runaway" and so many other songs. Tiny-Sink-2397: Boom shake shake shake the room Aurora: that was actually during the recording process of Cure For Me! Tiny-Sink-2397: I thought it was!! Seemed like an epic party Aurora: YES Joelynxyzs: what's your favorite movie ? Aurora: Practical magic BUT ALSO THESE: The LOTR triology ALL GHIBLI MOVIES avatar once upon a time in Hollywood Hannah the perfume fantastic MR. fox Star Wars: a new hope rouge one isle of dogs the hunchback of Notre dame! the arrival stypop: If you were to get the chance to work on a sequel to another Disney movie, which one would you want it to be? Aurora: since Disney owns Lucas films I would love to be a part of the Star Wars universe ย or to play either a magical fairy, witch mermaid, forest nymph, or a scary beast!! WE WO brisot: The masks in CFM remind me of theater plays, do you ever watch any and how much of an influence for you is the art of acting? Aurora: this era of my life is very influenced by the ancient times where theatre was all they had. no CGI or special effects etc. and I really wanted all these videos to feel very authentic, and down to earth! The shell in "exist for love" was handmade by someone, and I painted all the masks in "cure for me" myself! so I like it when it feels... human Clear-Champion-1833: i love you Aurora:
<3
Jicuhrabbitkim: How do you like your fried eggs cook!! I like it when its very crispy!! Aurora: as long as its from a local farm that has free healthy chickens that walk about freely and eat good food I like my eggs crispy too. GhostReaper3: Hi I have a question as well: How do you keep positive? Many people including myself find this difficult sometimes so it would be good to hear your technique or way of keeping upbeat and positive! Also, thank you for sharing your music with us! Aurora: I know what you mean, i've struggled with it myself at times. but I guess I tried separating in my mind what I can do something about, and what I cant? if that makes sense?? we are all just here on this planet. and though we all seem to be going though the same things we still feel so alone, in our thoughts and in our minds. And I've been very aware that with music, and with this fandom we can all finally connect, and see each other, and know that we are not alone! and if there is one thing I love, it is to dance a little after I've cried. I think its important to. shake these emotions out of our body. like animals do! and then I made CURE FOR ME. because I thought about all the warriors out there feeling. a little crazy... after isolation! or after being depressed! and being l rocked in with their families that might not accept them for who they are.. and I thought I needed to make a song for us all, that felt a little uplifting. and uniting. just so we know where not alone, and just so we know that we are worthy.. of everything! and that we are worthy of celebrating ourselves!! ALWAYS! aniri003: Were the dancers freestyling in the last part of the video Aurora: YES! I told them to put their freak game on. And they were amazing. L_pls_use_revive: Hei Aurora! Apart from inspiring me with your music for emotional people, I also dicovered my love for Norway and the Norwegian language through you - now studying it in my second year at university. Tusen, tusen takk! I want to visit soon when traveling is safe - So which place should I not miss out on? Have a great life! Aurora: I think the whole of Norway is worth visiting! there are so many beautiful places. and beautiful people! I would ofc. recommend Bergen! (haha!) but also places like Tromsรธ, Trondheim, Stavanger, lofted and The Geirangerfjord and the Northwest!!! HAHA KakSetoKaiba: How's the progress of the album that you've been preparing which will be released after your death? Aurora: its going well, I take one song for every chapter and I put it on my death album instead of the album I'm making ย its going well. and im excited about it! maria_fernandez_: This is not a question but I just wanted to tell you that discovering you and your music has been the best thing that ever happened to me. What your music makes me feel cannot be described in words. I love you so much. Greetings from Spain!! Aurora: thank you!!! applepieaurora: Whats your favorite pie? ๐Ÿ‰ Aurora: apple pie ย and blueberry pie!! Ok-Potato7244: Thanks for sharing your time ... a warrior here to welcome you...Have some tea...And i don't need a cure for disliking keeping animals in cages...Especially birds...๐Ÿ’š... Aurora: thank you pekaraseva: what do you feel when you perform Ioadk or Adkoh for people? Aurora: I feel so full of emotion and love and despair I could almost explode ย and its wonderful. I also feel insanely connected to the audience when I sing these songs.. I. think. its because they are such important pieces of my soul targaryenblood02: omg what do you think cure for me would smell like? ๐Ÿ› Aurora: like something Brazilian! like Asai! or caipirinha! or Brigadeiro!
sproutingephemeral: Hello Aurora, Thanks for your new song, I've gotten quite addicted to it๐Ÿ˜Š I have a question that might be a bit difficult to answer. I am a Warrior from the U.S. currently without a clue of where I should be and what I should be doing. I'm done with school, and in the process of moving to a new town with my parents. I'm applying for jobs, but I feel like I can't find my reason for being in a smaller area with not many people my age. I feel like my parents are trying to mold me into a certain person, which doesn't feel authentic to me. I probably should be making more of my own decisions at my age, but I'm a bit scared and confused, if what I think is deemed too unrealistic or out of line with their expectations for me (like a childhood dream?). I tried talking to them about it, to little success. Is there something inherently wrong with me? Or am I just being spoiled or lazy? I read about how you were initially opposed to starting your career until your mother convinced you to change your mind. How do you know whether or not to trust in your parents' plans for you? On a lighter note, do you prefer cookies that are more soft (chewy) or hard (crumbly)? I don't need a cure for...my autism, and tendency to talk regularly to my deceased cat at his grave (??)๐Ÿ˜ฟ๐Ÿ‘ผ Looking forward to seeing you in New York! Take careโคโค Aurora: you should ALWAYS. only do what feels right for you. this world is very absurd, and people tend to think they know what is meaningful and what is important. but we all know, money and success isn't important beyond what you need to simply survive. this one life is yours. and you should be just who you want. and do what feels right for you. because its yours. its only yours. drink tea. work hard. be lazy. dance. be shy. laugh, cry. drink wine and eat good bread. be good. fight for something you care about. and either live for your work, or work a little and then just... live. get a garden, grow tomatoes, get a cat. or a dog. or a parrot. life can be so random, and it can be both so little, and so large at the same time. some days were meant to TAKE chances, and live. and sometimes were just meant to exist. and do nothing. you should never feel guilty for not "being enough" because you are enough. just who you are. just how you are. is enough. good luck on your strange journey my warrior, maybe our paths crosses and maybe they dont. but know, when you walk out of your door, that anything can happen! and the whole world is yours. Hippolyte_gray: is the name of the next album hidden in your previous songs ? Aurora: mayyyyyybeeeeeeeee rashadalt: what do you think about your fans who are racist/homophobic etc.? Aurora: I feel sorry for them. because I know I cant be easy l living a life so full of hate. and even spending your precious. time on this world bringing other people down. and I know how easy it is for people to be driven by fear, and how difficult. it can be to have an original meaning and stand up for what you really mean. so I dont judge them, or hate them,
but I do feel sorry for them. and I am also very disappointed in them. because its such a. waste of human potential to live your life in the paths of hatred.
but as long as we face hate with love, we will eventually win. when we show them. we are not the enemy, just people trying to make a better world, I think, and I hope that eventually we can all agree that being able to live, and being able to love is a human right. Brivera726: I noticed you said you would bring LOTR trilogy with you to an island- Iโ€™m reading them for the fourth time right now ย I feel like if Galadriel sing songs it would sound like you! Anyway I really like your art so yah just keep doing u- love from PFC Rivera, USMC Aurora: this is then est thing ive ever read thank you Aurora: I am. sorry people, but my time here (for tonight) is up </3 but I will probably be back looking at your questions and thoughts because I did really. enjoy this. and I. love you all so. much.

Why I (Want to) Love Tangled: The Series/Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure
Salutations random people on the internet who most likely wonโ€™t read this. I am an Ordinary Schmuck. I write stories and reviews and draw comics and cartoons.
When I heard Disney was making an animated series based on Tangled, acting as a continuation from the original movie, my initial thought was, "Why?"
Sure, Disney is infamous for its unnecessary sequels of the story after happily ever after, with the many, many, many failures that follow suit. Even then, though, most of these continuations were movies that kind of have the potential to tell more of a story. But what more could be said about Tangled? Sorry to spoil a movie that's over ten years old at this point, but by the end of it: Rapunzel lost her golden hair, was reunited with her parents, fell in love, and lived happily ever after. Her losing the golden hair is the most essential part of that list because how can you do a series based on a Disney princess when her most iconic feature is gone? Then I found out that the series forced a way for her hair to come back, and my new initial thought became, "Oh man. This is gonna suck, isn't it?"
Despite the hesitation, I decided to give it a chance anyway. After all, I've been pleasantly surprised before. Things like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, The Mitchells vs. the Machines, and even The Owl House (yes, really), were shows (and a movie) that I didn't think would be that special. Only to find myself enjoying nearly every minute. So after watching Tangled: The Series/Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure, I can certainly say I was surprised...but it was entirely for the wrong reasons.
And to explain how requires spoilers. So if you haven't checked the series out yet, I highly suggest you do it to form your own opinion. Just keep in mind that it's a bit of a mess, but it can be an enjoyable mess...sometimes...let me explain.
WHAT I LIKED
The Animation/Art Style: The series swapping from 3D to 2D might have been the most brilliant decision anyone could have ever made with this series. Usually, when an animated movie gets turned into a show, the most noticeable downgrade is always the animation. Whether itโ€™s not as detailed or not as fluid, it's always subjective that the movie is better animated than the series. But by switching up the styles, the contrast becomes objective instead. 2D and 3D animation each have their pros and cons, so deciding which one is better is nothing more than a matter of opinion. So by changing the style, Tangled: The Series/Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure avoids getting complaints of being a downgrade from the original movie. It also helps that the art style of the series is really unique.
The best way to describe how the show looks is that it's like a coloring book brought to life. At times, everything looks like it was drawn and colored in with crayons, which sounds like an insult, but in actuality, it's one of the best features of the series. As much as I love most animated shows nowadays, I will admit, they all look a little too similar at times. Then here comes Tangled: The Series/Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure, which tries to incorporate a whole new style that successfully sets it apart from most shows.
As for the animation itself, it's really well-made! It's remarkably expressive when required, while the movements are really fluid during the correct scenes. Sure the fighting can be a little floaty during some action set pieces (yes, those exist here), but the dialogue and comedic moments are really where the series shines with its animation. I may have problems with the series as a whole, but I give credit where credit is due for the perfectly executed effort that I see in every episode in terms of animation.
Rapunzel and Eugeneโ€™s relationship: This was not something I was expecting to enjoy from the series. In the movie, Rapunzel and Eugene were fine. They were the typical Disney couple that worked off of each other enough that it was always entertaining, even if it was unbelievable that they fell deeply in love with each other after, like, two days. They weren't bad, but they weren't anything to go crazy over.
But the writers for the series said, "You know what, let's make these two adorable in nearly every scene they're in." And they are!
Even though I don't believe in their relationship in the movie, I fully believe it here. Both characters have a large amount of faith in one another on top of having endless love for their partner. Like how Eugene knew Rapunzel would be fine when taking out an airship or how Rapunzel couldn't bring herself to say a bad thing about Eugene when making Cassandra a sparring dummy of him. It's legitimately pleasant to watch, to the point where I put Rapunzel and Eugene in my top ten list of favorite fictional couples. They're that good to me, and it's one of the reasons why I don't jump on the bandwagon of shipping the two main female characters together. I'm all for LGBTQA+ representation, but give Cassandra her own girlfriend. Rapunzel's taken, and most of my enjoyment of this show comes from her and her man. So, you know, keep things as they are.
Cassandra (Seasons One and Two): Seeing how I've already mentioned her, let's talk about Cassandra, shall we? Because when making a series based on a movie that had only four prominent characters, with two of them being comedic animal sidekicks, you're going to need to introduce more members to the main cast to write more potential stories. And Cassandra, in Seasons One and Two (I'll get to Season Three), is a worthy addition. She acts as a strict straight man (I know the irony) who interacts well with Rapunzel and clashes perfectly with Eugene on occasion. She was passably entertaining in Season One and developed amazingly in Season Two. Her growing frustrations with Rapunzel's actions lead to a slow build-up that made her betrayal heartbreaking but somewhat understandable. And as for the results in that betrayal...yeah, I'll get into that later. For now, I'll just say that Cassandra was a pleasant addition to the main cast, especially when she was a part of the main trio, and she's yet another good surprise that the writers supplied for the series.
The Songs: The songs are...not going to be for everyone. Most of them are passable yet kind of generic, while others sound like they belong on Disney Junior (Looking at you, "Bigger Than That"). But when Tangled: The Series/Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure makes a hit, MAN, it is a home run. Numbers like "Ready As I'll Ever Be" and "Nothing Left to Lose" are sung phenomenally, orchestrated well, and are songs I can listen to on repeat multiple times. And "Waiting in the Wings" is not only something I consider to be the best song in the series, but it's also something I'd place as high up on Disney's best due to how f**king incredible it is. "Waiting in the Wings" is a powerful ballad that manages to be both tragic yet inspiring on top of how well it sums up Cassandra as a character. The writers may not always be on top of their game when it comes to music, but songs like these prove that they know how to earn that Disney name.
And thatโ€™s all I have for the likes...Oh boy. Thatโ€™s not a good thing is it?
WHAT I DISLIKED
It Peaked at Season One: It did. It really did.
Season One felt like the writers had a grip on what type of show they wanted: A slice-of-life series with Rapunzel dealing with the issues of her kingdom with a meager threat of these black rocks growing in the background. It was all cute and well-balanced for the most part, but that all disappears in Season Two. Because now it's sort of about this adventure, but because Tangled: The Series/Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure set itself as a slice-of-life series, there need to be these small-scale stories that intertwine the grand narrative being told. The issue is that the story comes to a grinding halt one too many times as fans are forced to sit through these filler episodes that, while not all of them are bad, still feel like a distraction. And by Season Three, the series does feel more focused while having some slice-of-life episodes added to the ongoing story instead of distracting us from it. But the writing isn't as strong, there are several plot holes in the narrative (how did Rapunzel's sunstone get into her dress?), and there is way too much time going back and forth on Cassandra's morality. They claim that she's a villain while arguing that there might still be some good in her, and they continue this train of thought for nine episodes when it really could have been settled in two. For me, it's a bad sign for a series when the first season is the best one. Because if it's all downhill from there, what's the point of even watching?
It Tries to be Epic: This might have been the worst decision the writers could have made.
Now, here's the thing: I don't mind grand epic tales of adventure and battles against demons. If anything, I'm all for them...when it's appropriate and fits with the tone of the series.
Tangled: The Series/Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure suffers a similar problem Frozen II has, in which the writers felt like a big, life-threatening adventure was the perfect continuation of a meager, personal story about the relationships of characters. It isn't. If anything, it's completely missing the mark about what the original story was about. And sure, sometimes writers can succeed in telling personal stories through grand adventures. Just look at The Owl House and parts of Amphibia. But with those shows, it's established within the first few episodes that action and peril will be a series staple. With Tangled, while there was some action and peril, it's all very subdued compared to how high the stakes got raised in later episodes in the show. Especially in the series finale.
And, I mean, c'mon. You're making Rapunzel an action hero?
Judy Hopps? Yes.
Moana? Maybe.
Raya? Most definitely.
But Rapunzel? The character whoโ€™s all about optimism and seeing the best of others. That's the character you're going to morph into a hero that fights against an evil demon laid dormant for years? Did you even watch the original movie? Yeah, sorry, but I just don't buy it.
If you want to tell an epic story that gets the blood pumping for fans addicted to adventure, go for it! See where the wind takes you. But make sure to set that tone as early as possible while also making sure that it fits with the characters. If not, the end result is a series that feels like it's trying to be something itโ€™s not.
Eugene is Kind of an Idiot at Times: It should be noted that Movie-Eugene and Series-Eugene are practically two different characters. In the film, Eugene was more or less the straight man, as he often questions the wackiness in the world around him and keeping Rapunzel grounded in reality. For the series, most of that personality got transferred to Cassandra. Thus making Eugene's new role in the series act as the egotistical imbecile. Sure, he had those moments in the film, but not as frequently, and it really pains me when the writers really lean hard into a minor aspect of his personality. Sometimes there are moments when Eugene acts like his original self. But it's all small scenes that are spread apart with entire episodes where he has half a brain cell. I'm sure some people didn't mind this change to the character, but as someone who adores the movie version of Eugene, I can't help but feel disappointed.
The Villains are the Worst: Now, I don't mean the one-off villains that show up, cause some chaos for a bit, and disappear at the end of the episode. Those are characters with fun personalities, occasionally cool designs, and do their job as villains of the week. It doesn't matter if their motivations are laughably simple, as their purpose is to be enjoyable characters above anything else. So I actually enjoy those villains...it's the ones that act as season-long antagonists that really grind my gears.
The purpose behind these types of foes is to build up how evil they are throughout the season. The issue is that the writers try to give these characters, or at least two of them, a point. To be fair, this can work. Just look at Killmonger from Black Panther and sometimes Karli Morgenthau from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. You understand and probably even sympathize with the logic and reasoning these characters have. It's just that their actions couldn't be farther from what you would do. The problem with Varian and Cassandra is that they have the motivation, but it's not written suitably for the story.
Cassandra is a whole can of worms I'll get to in a minute, but Varian is someone I can easily discuss for a brief time. Because while I can comprehend his pain for having his father frozen in yellow rock, I don't think turning evil is the best decision to go with that character. Because A. Everything is his fault. He blames Rapunzel for not helping him, but even if she didn't have a crisis to deal with, there was nothing she could have done to stop it. His frustrations are not only unjustified, but given the fact that this wouldn't have happened if he listened to his father in the first place, it feels like him becoming evil is too drastic of a turn. And B. Varian worked much better as a supporting character rather than a primary antagonist. He was just this hopeful, if not a clumsy scientist who wanted to prove himself, who causes minor catastrophes due to not thinking ahead. Turning a character like Varian into a villain is a bit of a misstep because if the guy acts hilariously incompetent as a good guy, it makes little sense to have him be intelligent and ten steps ahead of Rapunzel when being evil. If he were to become more serious and careful when helping the rest of the main cast, I'd consider that character progression done properly. But becoming a villain is just an overreaction.
However, none of that compares with my issues with the main antagonist of the series: Zhan Tiri. This goes back to my problems with the series making itself too epic. Because if Zhan Tiri existed in any other show, I probably wouldn't have any problem with her. She's built up well throughout all three seasons and is kind of threatening at times. But she doesn't belong in a series based on a movie that dealt with a small, personal issue where it wasn't even the character who killed the villain in the end. It was her love interest and animal sidekick. Even if Zhan Tiri works well as a character, the fact that it doesn't feel like she belongs in the show makes her too distracting to enjoy. And that's why these villains suck. If not poorly written, they don't belong in a series that should focus on small-scale issues. And if you can functionally write an antagonist that appears for only one episode but flounder with ones that show up in several, well, that's just embarrassing.
Cassandra (Season 3): OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH BOY, do I have some words to express with this character. Like with Movie-Eugene and Series-Eugene, Cassandra from Seasons One and Two is frustratingly different from the psychotic IDIOT from Season Three. Basically, just take the issues I have with Varian, multiply them by ten, add them with some bafflingly stupid decisions, and you still wouldn't get how much Season Three-Cassandra frustrates me!
First off, her motivation...what the f**k were the writers thinking? The big reason why Cassandra betrays Rapunzel and motivates all of her misdeeds was that Cassandra's mother was Mother Gothal...EXPLAIN THAT LOGIC TO ME?! Because Cassandra should know what type of woman Mother Gothal was. She should know what Mother Gothal did to Rapunzel in the first eighteen years of her life. So how is Cassandra being abandoned by Gothal the central motivator to cut ties with Rapunzel, who is probably an even bigger victim in this scenario!? Seriously, Rapunzel was cut off from the rest of the world and treated as an unknowing prisoner because she was beneficial to Gothal. Cassandra was adopted into a household with mutual love and got to actually live her life. In no way does it make sense for her to be angry at Rapunzel.
Nor does it make sense that the writers try to play it off as a good thing in the song "Crossing the Line!" Sure, it sounds nice, but thematically, it gives across the opposite feelings that the audience should have. Because if Cassandra cutting ties with Rapunzel is meant to be tragic and awful, why is the music suggesting it's the best possible thing that's ever happened for the character? If you like the song, fine, but even you have to admit that it's thematic nonsense.
But, sure. Cassandra's evil now, and she considers it a good thing. Whatever. I'll take it as long as it leads to good stories...but here's the thing: In the penultimate episode before the three-part series finale, Cassandra asks a question. A question I would have never expected her to ask, despite everything that has happened in the last season. A question that was so baffling, I had to legitimately pause the episode to process the fact that she asked something so stupid. Because Cassandra, the character who is intelligent and grounded in reality, asked, "Am I the bad guy?"

I was honestly shocked to find out she was shocked! How, in the flying, everlasting, cock-a-doodle-doodling F**K does a person like her not pick up that maybe, just maybe, she isn't the hero in this story!? Call me crazy, but endangering the lives of people you once called friends and family, dressing in black, AND HAVING A GIANT EVIL-LOOKING TOWER MADE OUT OF F**KING SPIKES aren't qualities I would give to a hero!
If Cassandra was like Thanos, a character so wrapped up in his ego that he can't even notice how evil he is, I would understand. But she doesn't have an ego. Anger, yes. But for the most part, her personality is based on having logic and reasoning. So turning her into a villain and having her unaware that she's a villain is an act of lunacy that I am incapable of understanding. I don't know who's idea this was, but whoever is to blame...you've got issues.
>Sighs<...This series isn't good, is it?
IN CONCLUSION
I like the animation and some of the characters...but that's not enough. Tangled: The Series/Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure is a mess of a show that tries to do too much for a story that should have so little. Meaning that it's a D+ for me. I want to enjoy it and give it a higher grade, especially with how much I hear people praise this series. And if you do enjoy it, all the power to you. Your opinions are valid, even if I highly disagree with them. Because for me, this is a show that I won't get myself tangled up in again in the future.

My favorite outfits of each of the Disney Princesses
I just thought I'd share my feelings with y'all. Also if you feel like you want to share your opinions on the princesses' wardrobes as well, please feel free to do so!
Snow White: So Snow only wears two outfits in her movie, and I'm not really crazy about either of them. But if I had to pick one, it would probably have to be her rags dress. I just happen to have always preferred the design of it more than her signature princess dress. The wooden clogs are an interesting touch. Also, Snow White looks still looks beautiful even when wearing something like that.
Cinderella: Although Cinderella's ball gown from the original animated movie (I hate that I have to specify that now) is absolutely stunning and one of the most iconic dresses in classic film, and is definitely a close second, her pink dress has been one of my dream dresses for as long as I can remember. Call me crazy or childish if you will but I have always looooooooooooved that dress. The scene where the mice and birds fix it up for her inspired me to want to make my own dresses + cosplay, and the part where it gets destroyed remains one of the most disturbing and downright heartbreaking things Disney has ever concocted. I would have given up a kidney for a costume of that dress when I was a little girl, but it wasn't until I was around a preteen that Disney finally started marketing one - and, of course, by that time I had already grown too big for the Disney Princess costumes for little girls. Well, I did learn to sew for a reason...
Aurora/Sleeping Beauty: I have always LOVED the outfit Aurora wears as Briar Rose and I would wear that as an everyday outfit without shame. Again, good thing I decided to learn to sew! I also love her royal gown, preferably in blue.
Ariel: I've always been partial to Ariel's wedding dress. It was especially the huge sleeve puffs that got to me. I also love her nightgown and blue outfit.
Belle: I've always had a super soft spot for the green dress Belle wears when the Beast gives her his library. Her ball gown is a SUPER close second, and, again, of course I am referring to the one in the animated movie and not that disaster from the live-action version.
Jasmine: Her purple betrothal announcement dress, hands down.
Pocahontas: Okay, so this one is a no-brainer, given that she wears only one outfit in the original movie and her outfits in the sequel don't really catch my eye, so, I'm gonna have to say her normal dress?
Mulan: Her finale outfit. I just love the design and the colors so much.
Tiana: Her blue gown. It just looks stunning on her and I love how sparkly it is. She looks like an actual star.
Rapunzel: Her purple dress is the one that stands out to me. I just love all the little details and how eclectic and interesting it is.
Merida: I'd have to say her regular dress. I love the Italian Renaissance silhouette, even though it's nowhere near historically correct.
Elsa: ESPECIALLY when compared to the concept art and since I reminisce so much about what could have been, I'm not particularly crazy about either of the Frozen sisters' wardrobes. But I've always had a soft spot for Elsa's coronation dress from the first movie, most likely because of the colors and rosemaling. Maybe if it looked more like a ball gown and less like a bunad, I'd love it even more.
Anna: Probably the gown she wears for Elsa's coronation. (I didn't want to say "coronation dress", because, firstly, she's not the one being crowned, and secondly, I didn't want to get it mixed up with the gown she wears when she's crowned queen in Frozen 2). I also should add that the skirt looks so much fun to move and twirl around in!
Moana: Probably her finale outfit. The floral details are so beautifulllll!!
