He let out a shaky breath from the smell. You had washed them, it’s a shame they weren't dirty.
Genre: perv!bestfriend!jake x reader
Words: 3,8k+
Warnings: Jake is a massive perv, creampie, shocking, Dom!jake, sub!reader, lowkey size kink
⋆ ˚。⋆୨ ʚɞ ୧⋆ ˚。⋆ ⋆ ˚。⋆୨ ʚɞ ୧⋆ ˚。⋆
You and your best friend Jake have always been very close and your friendship started way back when you were eight years old. Your family had just moved in next door and you decided to invite Jake’s family over for dinner to welcome the new neighbors. You and Jake clicked instantly, enjoying the same tv-shows, games, movies, sports - everything, and you have been friends since then. After school you always hung out, ignoring the classmates making fun of you both and calling you a couple, they didn’t know your friendship. Jake was in your eyes only a friend - nothing more, nothing less.
But everything changed when you both hit puberty, the teenage hormones completely taking over your body. Jake clearly remembers the first day he thought you were attractive, and much more than a just friend. Yes, as kids he always thought you were cute, referring you to his other friends as the “cute girl next door”, but now it was different.
He was at the ripe age of sixteen, and just invited you over to chill out by his pool with his other friends. The sun was shining bright, and it was the middle of July, making the weather extra hot - perfect for a cooling pool day. He remembers laying down on a sunbed, watching his friends, Sunghoon and Jay, play in the pool, when you suddenly catch his eye in the corner. He watched as you slowly pulled off your t-shirt and unbuttoned your shorts, showing off a bright blue bikini with spaghetti straps.
The last time he saw your body was the year before, and he could confidently say that a lot had happened since then. His eyes scanned your body, from your much bigger boobs, down to your ass - filling out the bikini bottom you were wearing perfectly. And the straps of the bikini top were tied at the front, and only a weak tugg would let your boobs loose, exposing what he at that moment so desperately wanted to see.
“Damn, seems like your friend have grown up the last time I saw her”, said Heeseung, leaning down on his sunbed beside him - using his elbows to push himself up to get a clear view of your frame. Jake could feel the embarrassment by the warmth of his cheeks, not liking how his friend talked about you, pushing Heeseung away. “Man, shut up”.
But he was right, you had grown up. You had actually grown up a lot, and since then, it has been difficult for Jake to be around you.
As Jake was eye fucking you by the pool, trying not to make it obvious (even though everyone could see the massive bulge forming under his swimshorts), you did the same. It’s not like you were any different, noticing how Jake's soft baby stomach turned to chiseled abs over the years when watching him lay down on his sunbed. When you got eye contact, you looked away, trying to distract yourself by jumping into the pool to play with his friends.
Jake tried not to be a perv, but always failed miserably, until he couldn’t stop himself anymore. Always trying to catch glances through the door crack when you showered at his place, feeling his dick twitch when he saw the way you massaged the soap on your tits - watching the soap glide down your body to your core. Purposely dropping something to the floor, making you bend in front of him to pick it up, making it possible for him to shamelessly look at your ass in those short-shorts you always wore during the summers. Jerking off to you almost every night, trying to imagine you in cute lingerie, black ones, screaming his name for more. “Jake, Jake!”
Now you were both older, in your twenties to be exact, and you didn’t live with your parents anymore. Because you and Jakes are both broke college students, you decided to live in an apartment together, since you had been friends for such a long time and it possibly couldn’t get weird between the two of you. But, this has only been more difficult for Jake, and being around you 24/7 is slowly driving him crazy. You had become very comfortable in your new shared apartment, walking around almost naked, just wearing those cute underwear sets he had imagined all those years ago.
His perverted actions continued because of this, sneakily taking pictures of your almost naked frame to either save for later, or to send to his other friends to brag about his hot roommate walking around in only underwear. “Dude I’m so jealous, if I were you I would have already fucked the shit out of her by now”. He looked at the text Sunghoon sent him. If he could decide, then yes, you would’ve already been leaking with his cum by now. But he can’t, he can’t ruin the friendship you have shared for so long.
But you’ve made it impossible for Jake to not act out his dirty thoughts, and that is the situation Jake happens to be in now.
While laying on his bed palming himself by the thought of you, he figured that jerking off to only the thought of you was simply not enough. He needed something from you, something that could help him get off, something…like your cute panties you always wore. He could describe them to the letter, they were black, which happened to be his favorite color, lace panties with a little bow at the front. The panties hugged your figure perfectly, showing the exact right amount of ass for him to get hard. He knew what he had to do.
It was 2 am, and he quietly sneaked into your bedroom, being extra careful to not wake you up. As he walked to your drawer, he watched your sleeping figure. “Cute” You looked so peaceful, and he almost began to feel guilty for what he was about to do. But he was more horny than guilty, shamelessly opening the first drawer to immediately find your black lace panties. His hand begins to touch the fabric, rubbing it against his long fingers, and immediately his cock hardens at the feeling.
He couldn’t stop himself, hastily bringing up the fabric to his nose, smelling the detergent - letting the smell fill him up. He let out a shaky breath from the smell. You had washed them, it’s a shame they weren't dirty. Without getting caught, he sneaked out of your bedroom and entered his own over the hall.
That night was arguably the best night of his life, using your panties to jerk himself off. First he would lay them on top of his face, closing his eyes imagining you sitting on his face, before grabbing the black laced panties and wrapping it around his cock. “Fuck, y/n” The feeling of the soft lace against his hard, swollen, cock was all it took for him to shoot the fattest load of cum - making the fabric completely soaked. But that wasn’t enough for him to get off, the sight of your drenched panties making his cock hard again, so hard that it almost began to hurt.
His dick was already sore, hurting when just softly touching the tip, making Jake let out a hiss from pain. As he did before, he wrapped your panties and wrapped it around his cock, carefully jerking it up and down. It was so painful, but also felt so good, letting out moans while tears streamed down his face.
He felt so disgusting for this, imagining that it was you he fucked, and not your panties. Imagining that you were on all fours, desperately crying and screaming for him to fuck you harder, deeper, faster, until beeing compleatly filled with his cum - watching it leek out from your used up hole. He could even imagine what you would taste like, bringing up your panties to his mouth and imagine that his cum was yours, sucking and licking the fabric. Just that though, that taste, made him cum again, and once more after that, before being too tired to continue.
It was the next afternoon, around 6pm, and Jake was heading home from campus to his apartment. You didn’t have any lessons that day, and decided to stay home to do some chores before Jake gets back. Jake has been acting weird lately, maybe something was bugging him? To be a nice roommate, you wanted to do something nice for Jake, opening his bedroom door to tidy up his dirty room.
It looked like a mess, dirty clothes everywhere on the floor and his bed was far from tidy. Couldn’t he at least make his bed before he headed to college? Or did he use the argument that he was still going to sleep on it later, so why make the bed anyway?
After throwing his dirty clothes away in the laundry basket in his room, you walked up to his bed to tidy it up. As you lifted one of his pillows you were met with an astounding sight. Under his pillows were your panties, and your favorite pair too, covered in white stains. Omg…did he steal your panties? You picked them up and immediately knew what Jake had done with them.
The white stains were his cum. He had used your panties to get himself off, and probably more than once by the looks of it. The, still wet, panties were way too distracting for you to hear Jake coming home, getting surprised when he suddenly opens the door to his bedroom.
When he saw you, holding the thing he thought he hid good enough for you to not find it, he panicked. “Y/n… what are you doing?” You looked back at Jake, and then at the panties you were holding once more. You let out a chuckle “What am I doing? No, Jake, what are you doing? Are these my panties?” He gulped down the saliva that was forming in his mouth out of nervousness. Fuck, what have I done.
He never answered, just stared at you nervously. “Did you- you- jerk off using my panties”. You couldn’t help but to feel the arousal between your legs by the thought of him wrapping your lace panties around his hard pulsating cock, letting out soft groans - probably thinking about you while doing it. Subconsciously you clench your thighs together at this thought, something that Jake noticed.
The sudden smirk forming on Jake's face by the sight of your clenching thighs didn’t go unrecognized by you, immediately backing away from him when he suddenly walked closer to you. “Maybe I did, do you like that? The thought of me jerking off with your cute little panties, hm?”
You didn’t recognise the Jake you have always known in front of you, but this new, discovered, version of him sure did turn you on. His eyes were dark, hooded, and he licked his lips by the sight of your nervous figure. Still walking away from him, you felt the edge of his bed by your knees, falling down by Jake pushing you to your back. He doesn't waste a single second before towering over you, putting his leg between your knees to tease your core. The feeling sends a jolt of pleasure through your body, letting out a small whine from your mouth - but still loud enough for Jake to hear.
“You don’t know how long I've wanted this y/n, to trap you underneath me”. He leaned down to your hair, smelling it to fill him with the scent of your shampoo. “Mm, you smell sooo good baby” The action sends shivers through your spine, and hearing the pet name makes you wetter than what you even were before. You never knew how much of a pervert your life-time friend was, even getting a boner by the smell of your hair.
“J-jake, what are you doing” you say, trying to make sense of what is happening right now. Your body is already trembling by his words, and his leg is pushing harder and harder against your core. The smirk on his face grows wider when he feels the wet patch on your underwear against his leg. Thank god you were wearing a cute short skirt, without stockings even, making it so easy for him to feel you up. It’s as if you were asking for it.
“Oh, you know what I’m doing y/n, and by the looks of it it seems like you want me to continue”, Jake says while pushing his leg up even further against your pussy. Not thinking rationally anymore, you begin to grind your hips against his jeans, arching your back when the harsh fabric rubs against your clothed clit. He lets out a chuckle at the sight, he had no idea you could be this desperate.
He suddenly grabs your jaw with his hand, forcing you to look at him - still rubbing yourself against his leg. “Look at you, just begging to get fucked”, he says and pouts his lips at you, his other hand sneaking up to your waist, and up your shirt. You feel his cold hand against your warm skin under your shirt, slowly creeping up towards your boobs, only to slide down to your stomach again. He was such a tease, so close to giving you what you want, but not doing anything before you actually give him your word.
“If you want to fuck me that bad then just do it, Jake” you say, trying to sound as demanding as possible, though failing when the feeling of his hand grabbing your boob makes you let out a loud whine. The sound, mixed with the sight, makes Jake so hard it’s almost painful.
"Yeah?, Do you want me to? Want to get stuffed with Jakey's cock?” As he says this, he suddenly lifts your whole body up with his hands, and replaces his leg with the bulge in his pants. It’s then you finally can feel him. Just by the feeling alone, you know it’s big, probably already leaking with preecum ready fuck you dumb.
“You are such a pervert Jake”, you say while Jake lifts up your shirt, taking it off your body to see more of you. He licks his lips, finally seeing your boobs without a bra, and leans down to wrap his head around your nipple. The feeling of his soft tongue licking and sucking your sensitive bud, occasionally using his teeth to make it more painful, makes you let out a cry, automatically grabbing his hair. You can feel the smirk on his lips against your nipple, “Oh, yeah?”
You wrap your legs around his waist to bring him closer to you, completely letting this feeling of arousal take over you. “Yeah, you are, sneaking into my room, taking my panties, you are so-” he sneaks his hand under your skirt and presses it against your clit, making you unable to finish your sentence. “sooo dirty, I know, but you love it don’t you?, say the words and I will give it to you.”
You look up at the man in front of you and you can’t believe this is happening right now. This is the same Jake you have known since you were eight, the same Jake you always talked to about other boys, the same Jake you shared everything with. And now he is on top of you, making you beg for his cock. Fuck he is hot right now, looking down at you like you are nothing but his play thing. His sweat makes his hair stick to his forehead, his mouth is agape, letting out heavy breaths from the feeling of his clothes dick against the wet path forming in your underwear.
“Please, Jake”. He looks down at you with a smirk on his face before smashing his lips against yours. The kiss is rough, as if you both have waited for this moment forever, and it doesn't take long before he pushes his tongue into your mouth. You let him take over you completely, letting him be incharge of what he wants to do and therefore when he pushes you tongue so deep inside your mouth you almost choke, you just take it. As he pulls away from you he grabs your neck, squeezing it. “Fuck you look so cute with my hand around your neck, baby”
While his hand is still on your neck, he uses his other to unbutton his pants and pulls them down alongside his boxers. The sight of his massive cock makes your mouth water. It’s not only massive in length but also in girth, and the tip is red and already leaking with preecum. You can’t wait anymore, pulling down your skirt to throw it on floor.
The sight of your soaked underwear is sending Jake over the edge, almost cuming in his pants by the way you are leaking. He brings his hands down to your clothes pussy, before tugging the fabric harshly upwards against your core. You let out a loud whine, desperately grinding yourself against the fabric, hiding your face behind your hands out of embarrassment. Because of this, Jake slaps the side of your thigh, making you scream out of pain. “Don’t cover your face, baby, I want to see you” You follow his demands, lifting your hands up from your face and instead grab his shoulders.
He leans down towards your panties, using his teeth to pull them down. “I’m saving these for later” He says and licks his lips, while bringing the fabric up to his nose to smell your panties in front of you. You let out a gasp “J-Jake!”, trying to grab the panties from him. “Ah-ah” Jake says, before throwing them on his night stand before you could stop him.
Before you could complain any further, he brought his cock down to your entrance, dragging the tip up and down against your pussy. He clenches his jaw trying to not push himself inside of you this instant, wanting to tease you enough first until you finally beg for him to go further.
The feeling of his hard cock grinding against your sore clit, makes your head spin, and you want more, pushing your hips up and down - grinding on his length. Jake looks down at you. You look so cute like this, his hand still around your throat, eyes completely shut from the pleasure, pleasure from the way you grind on his cock.
Tears are starting to form in your eyes when it takes too long for Jake to take it one step further. You are so close, but this is still not getting enough to reach your high. He almost laughs at your face when seeing how close you are, desperately trying to cum, but simply can’t before getting stuffed by his cock.
“J-jake, please just fuck me already!” He bites his lips, finally getting the words he always wanted. He uses his hand to push your body down, forcing you to stop grinding against his cock, before grabbing your hips with both of his hands. “You could’ve just said so, pretty”
The feeling of your warm pussy wrapping around Jake's cock, makes him throw his head back. Fuck. It felt so good, feeling you clench around him. And by the looks of it, you felt good too, letting out small moans from the way his cock stretches you out perfectly. He looks down at your stomach, and almost let out a whine from the sight of the bump. He can see his cock inside of you. One of Jake’s hands leaves your hip to come in contact with your stomach, his palm pushing down against the soft skin to feel his cock inside your stomach.
“Say my name” He says, still not moving, probably until you do as he says. You are shaking underneath him, and the only thing you want him to do is to fill you up completely. “Jake” He lets out a shaky breath from the way you say his name, string to pull out of your pussy - getting ready to fuck into you again. “Yeah, baby, one more. Can you do that for me?” He says, almost begging you at this point.
“Jake-!” you scream out his name as he slams into you, already pulling in and out of you at a fast pace. The hold on his shoulders gets stronger, trying your hardest to not collapse underneath him. The speed Jake fucks you almost rips you apart, and by the sight of your tears streaming down your face makes Jake let out a groan. “Fuck, y/n, you are mine, understand that? My own little cum slut” he says, not slowing down one bit, already starting to get closer to his release.
“Your cum slut, only yours!” the way he fucks you have turned you into a animal, and the thought of this being your best friend is long gone by now. Jake only fucks you harder after hearing your words, bringing his hand down to your clit to rub it - knowing it feels good for you. And oh it does, the feeling of his harsh fingers against your soft bud makes you scream out his name.
"J-Jake! I’m close-” you scream as Jake lifts up your legs on his shoulders, making him fuck into you even deeper. “Yeah? Then cum baby, cum all over my cock”. His words send shivers through your whole body, and you do as he says, cuming all over his cock. Him not being done with you, he still fucks into you, overstimulating you to the max before finally cuming as well.
He looks down at your pussy, and it’s completely drenched, juices still leaking out from your fucked up hole. He has to taste you. Before you could stop him, he leans down to your soaked pussy, tasting your cum mixed with his own on his taste buds. “Mm, you taste so good, baby”. He grabs your thighs, pulling you closer to his warm mouth, not letting you leave, wanting to lick up all your juices before he was done.
Before almost making you cum for the second time by his mouth, he pulls away to look at you. You had never been so beautiful, laying completely ruined on his bed and your body is wet from the sweat and the cum. Your big teary eyes look up at him, “That-that was amazing, Jake” You say, giving him a weak smile, making his dick twitch.
He leans down to kiss your forehead, patting the top of your head. “Good for you that this isn’t the last time we are doing this then.” He says before laying beside you on his bed, pulling your naked body into his.

Tumblr media
Three more days. That’s all he needs to wait to see you again, Katsuki thought to himself as he leaned back in his office chair looking at the clock, counting down the seconds until he gets to see you.
It’s been over a week since you went to go visit family, and while he usually goes with you, his agency needed him back home so he had no choice but to say, but he was always sure to text and call.
A part of him felt like it was missing when you weren’t with him, what started off as you being his sidekick kick which surprised a lot of people, and it quickly blossomed into enemies who fell in love.
Katsuki who you always called ‘an arrogant asshat' was able to sweep you off his feet, the mere thought of it made him crack a tiny smile as he pulled his phone out looking at your texts.
Every morning you were sure to send him a selfie of your outfit attached with a cute good morning text, then throughout the day, you would send him pictures of the things you were doing.
He tried to send a few of himself in the morning or while at work, sometimes you’d receive a picture of your favorite blanket with Katsuki wrapped up into it, and once after a lot of begging, he slid a pair of your lacy underwear on.
His bulge strained against the flimsy fabric as he stood in front of the mirror with flushed cheeks taking a few pics, your favorite one was the one when he turned around giving you a perfect view of his ass.
It became a nightly thing, especially after the second night when your side of the bed became too cold, Katsuki had no choice but to stretch his entire body over it or pile blankets next to him.
His favorite was when you posed in front of the mirror letting him get glances of your pussy that barely peaked from your shorts, his cock strained in his boxers as he stared at it before going through the other photos.
When he came home after a particularly hard day to an empty house, his first thought was to call you, thankfully you picked up on the second ring.
“Katsuki, hi, baby. How are you?” You asked on the other side of the line as you settled into your bed.
He kicked his shoes off and quickly stripped down to his boxers taking his uniform to the bathroom. “I missed your voice. I need you pumpkin."
His nickname for you lit a fire in your chest, reminding you of the first day you met him, it was four years ago around Halloween and you had a little ceramic pumpkin on your desk that Katsuki teased you for.
Now, it’s your nickname. "I miss you too, I’ll be home tomorrow night. How was your day? Anything interesting?"
Katsuki went off on a mini rant while he started the washer before heading to the kitchen with a sigh. "I just went off. Tell me about your day."
He listened to you as he made a quick dinner and ate it before heading to the bedroom with the phone shoved between his ear and shoulder, he pulled the blankets back and melted against the mattress.
"I have one more thing to send you, ok? But I have to get off the phone and help my mom with dinner. I love you so much Suki, I’ll see you tomorrow."
Once you hung up he looked through his texts waiting for the picture, but instead, it was a video.
He furrowed his eyebrows wondering what it was, the thumbnail was dark so he had no idea, and you only send pictures, never videos.
Clicking the video he was greeted by seeing you naked on your bed with a dildo, the one that was an exact mold of his dick. His eyes went wide and his cock throbbed in his boxers as he watched you lube it up with spit.
You slid the toy in and out of your mouth watching your phone while you cupped your breast moaning his name. "Holy fuck.” He grunted watching you remove it with a wet pop.
Quickly he grabbed the band of his boxers pulling it down freeing his aching cock, the head pink and leaking pre as he watched the video still as he yanked his drawer open on his nightstand grabbing his pocket pussy.
He could see the fake cock slide inside you as you straddled it at first before laying on your back and spreading your legs, you moaned his name grabbing the fake balls and fucking yourself with the toy.
“Katsuki! I-I need you!” You mewled going faster and arching your back, the sound of it came over his speaker and he could see himself in between your legs fucking you himself, your wet and warm pussy hugging him tightly.
He spit on his palm that wasn’t holding his phone then lubed up the length of his cock making it wet enough to slide the fleshlight over him, he matched your pace as red eyes stayed trained on the video.
“I want you to cum inside me so bad baby! I missed it! I want you so bad! Suki!” You whined grinding down on the toy.
Katsuki grunted as he went faster squeezing himself. “I’ll fill you up nice-fuck-going to make you squirt all over.” He moaned to himself as he kept his eyes trained on his phone.
You were going faster as well nearing your orgasm, it’s been too long since he’s felt your touch, and hearing you cry his name out was enough for him to spill his release into the toy, his cum dripped from the opening as he panted leaning his head back.
It was a mess, but for now, he didn’t care. Katsuki sent you a text before cleaning up to get ready for bed.
Katsuki: I think we should recreate that video you sent when you get home, be ready. I love you pumpkin.

There's no need to hide
Word count: 1009 words James/Regulus. First wizarding war AU (they're both stuck together in the same safe house)
⋆。°✩˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗⋆。°✩
“No, this won’t do.” James stands up, “We are not spending today of all days moping.”
“We’re not moping, we’re just talking.” Regulus replies, slightly indignant.
“All we ever talk about are big, sad, mushy feelings.” James dramatically flails his hands around, almost as if shooing the sentiment away.
“Big, mushy, feelings.” Regulus repeats, he tries to sound offended but the tug on his lips says otherwise.
“Well yeah, everyone you know thinks you’re dead, terribly sorry we can’t do anything about that by the way. And me, well, where the fuck do we start, you know?”
Regulus looks back at him, slowly blinking. the sickly yellow lightbulb casting down its shadows.
He doesn’t need to think about that right now.
He just needs something to fill the noise.
The air was filled with the sense of slight delirium. Nothing felt real. Nothing had consequence. James felt like he could run away, sprint off into the fields and pretend the last twenty two years of his life were a lapse of chemicals his mind made up in a haze.
The depression that hung over him all week threatened to spill into hysterical exuberance. But James didn’t care, it’s been so long since he had someone near him, someone that wasn’t decades older than him. Someone that talked to him, not just through him. Someone that didn’t expect him to be something he wasn’t.
He’ll let himself get drunk on whatever endorphins his body, for whatever reason, was dishing out.
He just needs something to fill the noise.
“Look James, maybe we should call it a night-“
“Nonsense! It’s your birthday, we’re staying up. We’re transforming some stale bread into equally stale cake. We’re playing music your obnoxious little self wouldn’t be caught dead listening to, and we’re dancing.”
He taps his wand. The tinny radio spluttered to life. The glittery synths were scratchy and soft. It filled the room instantly.
Regulus looks back horrified, his eyes widened.
He stretches his hand out for Regulus to take.
Regulus stares down at it, then back at James’ face “Oh no, absolutely not.”
“Oh c’mon, I used to do this all the time with Peter.”
“Is that all what you four did all day? dance around with each other?”
“Mostly, amongst other things. The worst of us was Remus, man had two left feet and fingernails like talons.” he fondly remembers the way Remus’ grip dug into his shoulders and ‘Moony, can you for the love of everything try and be less rigid’ while everyone else in the common room cheered them on, well, mostly Sirius.
Regulus snorts, “I should’ve known. And to think of all the time I wondered what on earth you people did.”
“Well, we had to, the marauders couldn’t embarrass themselves in front of the ladies.”
James’ hand was still outstretched. He wiggled his fingers again, “Come on. Can’t you just humor me?”
“You know it’s my birthday, you should be humoring me.” Still, something in his expression softens - he sighs, unfolds his arms, and carefully places his hand into James’ own.
The soft music and layered vocals had filtered throughout the room. The noise of it seemingly amplified in the tiny living room.
James slowly put his hand on Regulus’ shoulder - the unexpected warmth that rushed through him made him pause. He realizes, this was the first time he’s touched another person in months.
(Eight months to be exact, the last time he saw Marlene, drenched in black hoods at an Order meeting. She gave him a full body hug and squeezed all the oxygen out of him.)
Still, he slides his other hand across Regulus’ palm. The song playing was by a muggle band he didn’t recognize - a ditzy little number, all dreamy sounds and far away vocals. The shimmering effect the night held seemed to surge as they swayed.
It was awkward at first, as it always is. Clutching to each other’s shoulders in a frigid way that even Remus would realize was painful. That was until James, in his delirious state of glee started adding twists and turns left and right, loosening both of them up.
Regulus followed his every move, surprisingly fluid and confident in a way his posture never was. They both slowly started to laugh with every unnecessary kick or turn they flourished as they moved across the kitchen floor. This wasn’t a formal dance in any sense of the word, bouncing around like fools across the linoleum tiles.
It’s been a long time since he felt like this. Young, stupid, and full of bravado. Of course, now it was tinged with the haziness of all what’s broken his heart over and over, night after night. But it was still there, a flickering light in the dark. On and off. He silently pleaded with whoever was handling it to not click it off just yet.
“Okay, you have to stop before I start to vomit,” Regulus raises his voice over the bellowing music, a woman singing about hot stuff.
“We’ve both had nothing all day, nice try though!”
“Have you ever seen a cat dry heave?”
James laughs. He slows his tempo down back to a sway.
“Alright, we’re slowing down, only because it’s your birthday. Otherwise we would’ve been spinning off the patio,”
Regulus promptly ignores him. “Wasn’t there a promise of cake during your little speech?”
“Stale cake.” James corrects. “and i can only manage sweetened white bread, with bits of frosting.”
“I’ve had worse meals,” Regulus replies
“I bet you did,” James smiles back.
They come to a stop as the last seconds of the song play, another already fading in.
They both found themselves a few moments later hunched over a piece of incredibly stale, possibly moldy bread. Both throwing every bit of transfiguration spell they had in their arsenal. The result was a dried-out, but surprisingly pretty piece of yellow sponge cake. James had taken bits of milk and transfigured it into real looking icing, which coated the sides in swirls and peaks.

How to Rehabilitate a Jock Pt 16
Part One Part Fifteen Link to Ao3. Part 17
So late but I needed to post this as soon as I was happy with it haha! Thank you to @stevethehairington for betaing and @thefreakandthehair for listening to my endless rambles
Step Sixteen: Fix What You Brea
Decorating a christmas tree was an interesting experience.
It wasn’t like Eddie had never seen a tree before, it just wasn’t something he had ever personally done. Before living with Wayne, his parents had never stayed in one place long enough to have a tree, and after he moved in with Wayne, they both agreed that the money would be better spent on having a present for Eddie instead of a tree to just stare at. Eddie had always thought it would be kind of stupid anyway. What was the point?
But decorating Steve’s tree was actually pretty enjoyable.
Sure, Frank and Jeff were fighting over eating the popcorn string instead of hanging it up, and yeah, Jonathan kept making little side comments to Nancy about it that were almost a shade too sarcastic for comfort, but the air was filled with laughter, and Steve was directing him on where to put the important ornaments, so it wasn’t all bad.
“What about this one?” Eddie asked, holding up a delicate glass design. It was shaped like a pair of ballet slippers, hanging on a pink ribbon that gleamed in the lights on the tree.
This was the best part in Eddie’s opinion. Every single one of the ‘special’ ornaments had some story attached. A family anecdote or a tradition long held. Steve wasn’t on Eddie’s level of storytelling, but there was something incredibly cozy about holding out an ornament and listening to Steve tell the tale as they hung it up together.
“That ones my mom’s,” Steve said, his voice inordinately warm as he took the ornament and leaned into Eddie’s space to place it on the right side of the tree almost all the way at the top. “She was a ballet dancer back in the day. The ribbon is from her first set of pointe shoes.”
“That’s cool,” Eddie said, looking closer. Sure enough the satin was too thick to be a traditional ribbon, and there were rips in it that had been sewn back together with pale pink thread.
“Yeah. You have to replace pointe shoes every twenty hours of dancing or so, but my mom’s family never had much money, so she used hers until they were too broken to dance,” Steve explained, tracing his index finger down the side of the ribbon, his eyes far away somewhere Eddie couldn’t quite reach.
Huh.
It was strange to think of anyone in Steve’s family as anything but rich. The Harringtons were well known snobs, and although Eddie didn’t personally know Steve’s mom, he had definitely heard about her. Head of the PTA, head of the ladies auxiliary, head of the church prayer group. She was a socialite through and through.
Initially Eddie had heard the word ‘ballet’ and imagined an uptight little prima in a sterile looking studio with starched white tutus and perfect form. Steve’s story had shifted that, and now Eddie’s mind was conjuring up images of a tiny girl practicing and practicing her steps with shoes that were tearing at the seams. A small child trying and trying to be as good as everyone else when the tools she was working with were nowhere near what everyone else got to have.
The same way Eddie himself had practiced on his first guitar before he had started dealing and was able to afford his Warlock.
“Why’d she stop dancing?” Eddie asked softly, suddenly desperate to know the answer. He needed to make the two images connect, needed to find the through line that could turn a poor kid who just wanted to dance into a formidable small town queen.
“She married my dad,” Steve replied, giving the exact answer Eddie hadn’t wanted to hear. “They moved here, had my brother, and Mom didn’t need to work anymore. The back room used to be her studio, but my parents decided to make it a second office for my dad.”
Eddie bit his tongue, looking at the tree but avoiding the shimmering ballet slippers sitting on the branch above his head.
Steve’s mom had been like him, then she married a rich guy, and gave up all the things that mattered for money. She had been just like him, once upon a time.
Would that happen to Eddie?
Was he turning into someone different now because of his crush on Steve?
It wasn’t a completely lunatic idea. He was here decorating a tree, which is something he normally saw as completely arbitrary and useless. He was letting a jock into hellfire, and not just any jock but the King.
Would being near Steve chip away at all of Eddie’s long held beliefs? Would he move backwards and backwards because of this idiotic infatuation, until his guitar was just an ornament on a tree?
“Eddie?”
And then with just one look, Steve erased the entire idea. One flash of those big brown eyes and that little side quirk of his head, and Eddie is a goner. There was no way Steve would ever turn his partner into some cookie cutter perfect picket fence person, no planet on Earth where Steve wouldn’t love someone enough to love their weird bits too. This was Steve.
And besides, it wasn’t even like Eddie was the kind of person that had a shot with Steve in the first place. For a lot of reasons.
“Sorry, got lost in thought, Sweetheart,” Eddie said, crooking his mouth into a half smile and ignoring the panging ache of guilt crushing his chest. Steve’s shoulders relaxed and he leaned closer, letting his arm rest against Eddie’s.
“Well, don’t go somewhere I can’t follow,” He murmured, the smell of his cologne and the feeling of his body sending Eddie into a tailspin.
Just like before when their hands were joined and Steve’s warm breath was blowing across his frozen fingers, Eddie’s mind stuttered to a halt. The endless loops and running thoughts were stuck in place, held motionless by the enigma that was Steve Harrington. It was overwhelming, too much and not enough all at the same time, and Eddie needed to get away from it before he did something he couldn’t take back.
“C’mon, we’ve still got work to do, lazy bones!” Eddie chirped, slipping away from Steve and practically jumping over to the box of carefully packaged decorations. He was so focused on escaping, that he wasn’t paying attention to his surroundings until it was a moment too late.
At the same time Eddie picked up the next ornament, Jeff and Frank’s battle over the popcorn string reached its apex. Jeff let go of his side of the string, and Frank flew backwards. He barreled into Jonathan, who crashed into Nancy, who stumbled and bumped into Eddie just enough to make him lose his grip.
The air was filled with the terribly delicate sound of breaking porcelain, and everything seemed to freeze in place. All six of them stared at the ground, where a tiny angel rested in three pieces where it had once been whole.
“Shit, I’m sorry-”
“We were just fucking around, but we shouldn’t have-”
“Steve, I’m so-”
Floods of apologies from the rest, but Eddie stayed silent. He was watching Steve like a hawk as he slowly bent down on one knee and began to collect the pieces of the broken ornament.
Steve hadn’t said a word yet, but he was still saying plenty. His shoulders were almost at his ears, and his fingers were shaking as they tried to grab onto the porcelain remains. His expression was neutral, but his eyes were starting to take on an honestly terrifying shine, and his blinking was getting more and more rapid by the second.
Eddie should have left it alone, should have given Steve space to collect himself, but he had never been good at leaving things be. So, knowing it was the wrong thing to do, Eddie knelt down by Steve and reached out to put a hand on Steve’s shoulder.
“Sweetheart?”
“It’s fine,” Steve instantly replied, a completely hollow smile materializing on his face as he continued to blink far too much. He leaned away from Eddie’s touch, a tiny jerky movement that put a twenty pound weight on Eddie’s chest. Steve scrambled upwards, cradling the broken ornament close to his heart as he continued to fake a smile. “It was an accident, Babydoll. No worries.”
It was an accident, but that didn’t make it ‘fine’. Steve was obviously so far from fine, and even that little silly name wasn’t enough to assure Eddie of the lie. It actually made it worse, like Steve was trying to appease him, to make Eddie let it go, when he really didn’t think he should.
“I’m gonna go see if we have superglue. It doesn’t look too bad,” Steve said to the entire group, still faking it. Unlike Eddie though, the rest were buying it, tension leaking out of them with relieved smiles and quiet sighs. “You guys finish up though, people will be here any minute.”
And then he was gone, ducking into the kitchen and disappearing from view, leaving Eddie unmoored and unsure of where to go. Every fiber in his being wanted to chase after Steve, catch him alone and hope that he wouldn’t keep trying to hide, but he was stuck in place. Steve had leaned away, escaped as soon as he could, that had to be a sign that he didn’t want Eddie near him.
Wasn’t it?
“Nice job, butterfingers,” Frank joked, gently jabbing an elbow into Eddie’s ribs in an effort to lighten up the air around him.
Eddie threw him a distracted smile, still staring at the doorway Steve had disappeared through and trying to ignore the part of him that was desparate to follow.
“I’m gonna go check on him,” Nancy murmured to Jonathan, nearly inaudible over the sound of Jeff and Frank looking for a broom to get any remaining slivers of porcelain on the ground. Jonathan nodded with a quiet hum, kissing Nancy on the cheek before letting her go without even a word.
Because it was oh so natural for an ex-girlfriend to leave her current boyfriend in the dust to go check on her ex-boyfriend.
Eddie watched her perfect little curls bounce in their perfect little ringlets as she practically skipped out after Steve. Now Nancy was going to go in there and comfort Steve, act all sweet and soft and drag Steve into thinking that she cared when she was the one that had cheated. Hell, maybe they would even kiss, and she would have her hooks in Steve again.
Why wasn’t Jonathan upset about this?!
… Why was Eddie so upset about this?
Eddie let his eyes slip shut, his breath escaping in one huge gust as he finally began to wilt. It wasn’t really any of his business. He and Steve were friends. That was all. If Steve wanted to kiss Nancy, then he would kiss her, and that wasn’t Eddie’s choice. All Eddie had was a fanciful crush, a ridiculous dream, a hope for something that he should never have let himself hope for.
But still.
“I’m gonna find a bathroom,” Eddie muttered to no one, slipping out of the room and carefully creeping down the hallway towards the kitchen.
He could hear the indistinguishable sound of voices coming from the room ahead, the open door tempting him closer and closer for a taste of what Steve and Nancy were discussing.
Was Eddie really doing this?
Yes. Yes he was.
Resolved, Eddie leaned against the hidden side of the doorway, letting his head hit the wall as he shut his eyes and focused on eavesdropping.
“-really don’t want to talk about it, Nancy,” Steve said, sounding utterly exhausted as cupboards opened and slammed shut.
“Okay,” Nancy relented, clearly not happy to let the subject go, “let’s talk about the other thing?”
Other thing?
“Other thing?” Steve asked. Eddie bit back a snicker, his heart fluttering at the way Steve had mirrored him without even knowing it.
“You invited Eddie?”
The humor instantly fled, rushing out of the hallway along with all of the oxygen, leaving Eddie dizzy and struggling to breathe. His indulgent smile soured into a scowl, and his hands curled into tight fists.
It was the tone. That tone that Eddie had heard his whole life. The condescending, lower-than-me, dirt on the shoes of society tone. It was the kind of thing that girls like Nancy could use because they lived in perfect two story houses on cul-de-sacs, and Eddie was trailer trash from the bad side of town.
Well fuck her. Fuck Nancy Wheeler and her stupid perfect life, and fuck her for hating him just for existing. Eddie could hate her right back. He had hating the conventional down to a science, an art form almost. He was brilliant at striking first, and he had half a mind to walk in there and tear her down a few notches, just for the fun of it.
“What is your problem with him?”
Eddie stopped in his tracks, blinking his eyes open and staring in shock at the wall in front of him, watching Steve’s shadow turn to face Nancy’s.
“I don’t have a problem,” Nancy scoffed.
“Obviously you do, Nance,” Steve shot back, crossing his arms  “Eddie’s a good guy. They’re my friends.”
A good guy.
It wasn’t exactly a glowing recommendation or anything, but the words and the protectiveness in Steve’s voice was doing terrible wonderful things to Eddie’s stomach. His fingers were still burning from being held by Steve before, and now his brain was on fire too, caught in the blaze that was Steve damn Harrington.
“I… I just think he might be trouble,” Nancy admitted softly, quickly continuing when she heard Steve’s inhale of interjecting, “and not in the way you’re thinking! I promise.”
A long silence, one that gave Eddie too much time to think, one that left too much room for endless questions with zero answers.
What kind of trouble did Nancy think Eddie was dragging Steve into? What would Eddie do that she was so scared of? Did she really care that much about Steve’s reputation? Steve didn’t even care about it anymore!
Was she scared for her brother? Why was all of this so damn cryptic?
“In what way?” Steve finally asked, and Eddie leaned in, needing the answer.
“Just-” Nancy cut herself off with a frustrated little sound, and her shadow eclipsed Steve as she stood on her tiptoes to put her arms around his shoulders.
“If you ever need to talk. About anything. Me and Jonathan are here. We would never judge you for anything. You know that right?”
Eddie barely heard it, the words muffled between the two bodies, but he heard Steve’s soft chuckle, and saw the way his shadow arms wrapped around Nancy.
Even just an image of them on the wall looked so… right.
It made a small part of Eddie die inside.
He closed his eyes once, hating the burn that was already there waiting. He shouldn’t have come over and listened. He shouldn’t have done any of this. But as Eddie took a step back to walk to the living room with his tail tucked between his legs, Nancy spoke again.
“And you need to tell them about El before she gets here.”
El?
Who was El?
“Shit, you’re right,” Steve sighed, pulling away from Nancy, “I totally forgot.”
“Do you remember the story?”
“Nancy I’m the one that came up with it,” Steve said, annoyance tinging his voice, “I remember the story.”
Story?
Eddie was definitely eavesdropping about something bigger than relationship woes now, and the mystery of it all dug right into his soft spot, pulling him away from his aching heart and tugging him forward with a desperate need to know more.
This was the thing that Wayne always tried to warn him about. Eddie’s need to know everything was always getting him in trouble, and he had heard plenty of times about what curiosity did to cats.
That was all true… but the thing that Wayne always seemed to forget was that satisfaction brought that cat back.
“It’s important that we get this right, Steve. You know what-”
But whatever Steve knew, Eddie didn’t seem destined to hear it. As he leaned closer, intent on catching every word, he overbalanced, tripping over his own feet and slamming his entire body against the other side of the doorway, coming into full view of both of them. Steve and Nancy both jolted, pulling away from each other and staring at Eddie with slack jaws and wide eyes.
Fuck.
“This is what I get for never tying my shoes,” Eddie joked awkwardly, trying to be casual as he straightened up and let out the world’s worst fake laugh. His brain was racing, running as fast as it could to come up with any rational reason for him being there besides eavesdropping.
“Are you okay?” Steve asked, his brow furrowing. He didn’t even seem to catch what was going on, but Nancy was practically glaring, her lips pursed in quiet fury.
“I’m fine, Sweetheart,” Eddie reassured him, ignoring Nancy’s look in favor of focusing all of his attention on Steve. If he played it right, then Nancy calling him out would just look like she was against him, which Steve had already tried to stop.
He wasn’t being manipulative. This was just strategy, the same kind of strategic thinking that any dungeon master worth their salt would employ. It was improv, a game, an act. Nothing bad. Nothing wrong.
So why was guilt creeping cold fingers down Eddie’s spine?
“What do you want?” Nancy asked, clearly trying to go for nonchalant but coming off completely cold with her crossed arms and flat inflection. It wasn’t working in her favor if Steve’s quick sharp look was anything to go by, and Eddie did his best not to preen under Steve’s protection.
“Drinks? The boys were wondering if you had anything stronger than eggnog,” Eddie wondered, coming up with his excuse on the fly. It would work. Frank was never one to turn down a stiff drink, especially if it came loaded with whatever ridiculously expensive alcohol the Harringtons were keeping stashed away here.
Nancy tossed her hair over his shoulder, raising a single brow as her expression stayed firmly unimpressed. It made Eddie want to squirm in place, but he held firm, meeting her head on.
“You know there’s gonna be kids at this party, right?” Nancy said, her voice a little less frosty, but a hell of a lot more condescending. “And the chief of police.”
Eddie bristled, opening his mouth to tell her exactly where Hopper could stick it, but Steve intervened before he could.
“There’s nothing wrong with having a little,” Steve offered in a mediating tone, already moving towards one of the high cabinets and starting to open it. “But just one before they get here. Last thing I need is the brats trying to convince me they’re old enough for whiskey.”
“Jack and Coke? Or are you spoiling me with the good stuff?” Eddie asked, possibly laying it on an inch too thick, but unable to help it when Steve was giving him that fondly annoyed side eye.
“We do not drink the good stuff as a mixed beverage,” Steve lectured, grabbing a fat bottle from behind a box on the shelf and bringing it down, “but I think breaking out the crown wouldn’t be amiss.”
“A crown for a king!” Eddie crowed, taking the bottle of Crown Royal from Steve and wiggling his eyebrows. Steve huffed out a soft laugh, shaking his head at Eddie’s antics and turning towards the fridge.
“Here, Nance,” Steve said absentmindedly, holding out a bottle of coke for her, “take that inside and you guys can make your own before everyone else gets here. I’ll be in once I find the glue.”
“Why don’t I help you?” Eddie blurted out, his mouth moving before his mind even caught up with what he was saying.
“Oh, sure,” Steve agreed, still distracted as he began to root around in cupboards.
“You’ll be needing this,” Eddie said sweetly, offering up the bottle to Nancy as she walked past him.
Nancy’s eyes narrowed impossibly further, and she let out a short sigh, taking the bottle of alcohol with a vicious little swipe and striding out of the room. Eddie watched her go, barely resisting the urge to stick his tongue out at her retreating form.
He had won. That was what mattered.
Did Eddie even know what he had won? No, but he still felt like he did.
Once it was just the two of them, Eddie’s hackles began to slowly lower. There was no need to be on guard when it was just him and Steve. He idly twirled around the kitchen table, leaning against the counter on the other side of the kitchen and looking around the room with distracted curiosity. He had been in the kitchen before, but never really cared enough to explore the details.
Now every fridge magnet was a new discovery, and the way that the spices were lined up on the rack was information that seemed important. But the most interesting thing in the kitchen was the angel on the counter right by Eddie’s fingers.
It was a pretty thing, delicate, but somehow still beautiful, even in parts. The sculpted wings were curled around the figure of a little boy, kneeling with his hands cupped over a star. At the bottom of the ornament was the name ‘Jaime’ in ornate script.
Jaime.
“Who’s Jaime?” Eddie wondered aloud. He had mostly been talking to himself, but his words caused Steve to stop short, flying around from the drawer he had been searching through and whirl around to face Eddie.
“Where did you…” Steve trailed off, noticing the angel. He wilted like a dying flower, biting at the inside of his cheek as he turned his back to Eddie, returning to the drawer of odds and ends.
“Jaime’s my brother,” Steve said shortly.
Eddie’s shoulders were starting to tighten, but he pushed through the feeling. It wasn’t a rejection, or an outright refusal to speak. Steve was just being cagey, secretive the way he sometimes was.
Eddie could crack that.
“Ah, yes, the elusive mystery brother,” He joked, putting on a fake accent and bopping over to Steve’s side, bumping against him in an effort to get Steve smiling again. “Will the elder Harrington sibling be making an appearance at tonight’s festivities?”
Maybe if he was, Eddie would get some answers. Reasons for the panic attack at the Hideout, or some details on the mysterious ‘El’. The possibility of unraveling another part of Steve was enticing, coaxing Eddie further down the rabbit hole.
“Um…”
Just like that the curiosity was gone. Instantly killed by the way Steve’s adams apple was starting to bob, and the sharp shaking inhale that went along with it. Eddie’s heart fell to his feet, and his fingers felt cold for the first time since Steve had touched him.
“I was just kidding around. You don’t have to-” Eddie began.
“It’s okay,” Steve interrupted, still worrying his lip as his eyes darted around the room, looking everywhere but at Eddie. He was gearing up, trying to find what he wanted to say or maybe trying to force it out. Either way, Eddie was going to be frozen in place until Steve was ready to speak.
“Jaime um… Jaime died,” Steve finally managed, the word practically shooting out of his mouth the second he was done choking on it.
It was like being dunked in a freezing cold shower and tossed out in the snow. Not only had Eddie forced Steve into talking about his dead brother, he had broken the ornament obviously meant to commemorate him.
If he had a gun, he would be pushing it up against his temple. Nope. Even that wouldn’t be enough.
“Fuck,” Eddie hissed out, wishing he could just shut his damn mouth for once, but he was too keyed up to stay quiet. The apology was worthless, but it was already spilling out of his mouth, vomiting itself up, “Steve, I-”
“Really, it’s fine,” Steve insisted, busying himself with looking for the glue. “How could you know? Besides, he died before I was born, so…”
“So?” Eddie prompted, not really sure where Steve was going with that.
Steve said ‘so’ like that meant it didn’t matter, but from just one glance Eddie knew how much this did. Steve, who was one of the most open people Eddie knew, was hunched over, practically trying to disappear from Eddie’s gaze, hiding away whatever emotions were trying to push themselves up to the surface, demanding to be felt.
“So- I don’t know,” Steve said, cutting himself off with a sigh. He held up the tiny bottle of superglue, walking over to the other side of the counter, his back to Eddie again. “But it’s my mom’s favorite ornament, and she would get really upset if she came home and it was broken,”
Steve gave a tiny laugh that wasn’t really a laugh, the tip of his finger running over the edge of the wing like it had run over the satin of the ballet slipper ribbon.
“Not that I even know when she’s coming home again,” He whispered, the bitterness in the words so heavy that it was sitting on Eddie’s tongue.
It was just wrong. Eddie had never heard Steve sound so beaten down, even in the parking lot the other night. This was somehow worse than just watching Steve shake through an unseen panic that he couldn’t control.
But, unlike that night, Eddie could do something about this. So, rather than satisfy his own curiosity, Eddie put his needs to the side.
“Can I?” Eddie asked, holding out his hand for the glue and the angel. “I work on miniatures all the time. I’m super steady.”
Steve looked down at the hand outstretched toward him, then up at Eddie. A long slow look that went deep in Eddie, making him want to squirm with how far it was going.
Then, finally, Steve relented. He handed over the pieces and hopped up onto the counter, watching Eddie like a hawk.
Eddie immediately went to work, bending his head close to the angel and narrowing his eyes as he carefully glued first the broken wing on, and then the small corner of the name plaque. He held both in a firm but soft grip, balancing the ornament effortlessly between his hands as he waited for the glue to bond the pieces back together. And, as he did all of that, he worked up the courage to say what he was thinking.
“You know it’s okay, right?” Eddie whispered, unable to make his voice any louder.
“What is?” Steve whispered back, just as quiet.
“If you aren’t okay,” Eddie replied, braving a quick glance up at Steve’s face.
It was the wrong thing to do. The blank look of utter shock on Steve’s face was painful, hurting Eddie inside in a place he didn’t even know existed.
All at once Eddie was sure that he was the first person to ever tell Steve such a thing, and that was just… too much. It was too much pressure, too much potential to fuck it up and hurt Steve even more, too much of a chance that Eddie would say the wrong thing.
But it was also too much to not be sure Steve knew that it was the absolute truth.
“You’re allowed to not be okay,” Eddie said, gently placing the repaired angel in Steve’s palm.

Chapter Ten (Part 2)
Tumblr media
I smile and shake my head, because I’m sure that I won’t be. Jude shuffles on the bed to readjust himself, and when he settles, his leg is resting against mine. It’s warm, mine feels cold. I notice it and wait for him to move but he doesn’t, so I just let our skin touch, and I get a shiver from my toes to the top of my head.
“When you go to Berlin,” I start. “Will you know anybody else there?”
He shakes his head. “No, I’m going on my own, which I’m kind of excited about.”
“Scared though?”
“Yeah, a little bit I suppose. More excited.”
“I think I’d be scared to leave and be away from everybody I know.”
“Yeah, I get that, but I wasn’t really thinking that way when I applied for university there, it was honestly more about the experience I’d have and what I’d learn from doing my degree there.” He shrugs “Plus when I applied I didn’t actually think I’d be going on my own.”
“No?”
“My girlfriend at the time and I applied together, actually, but she didn’t get in. It was brutal, we got our letters on the same day. Art schools work like that sometimes, they send their offers out earlier than other courses because your Leaving Cert points aren’t important. I got accepted and she didn’t, so it was a bad day.”
“So you decided to go alone anyway?”
“Yeah it felt like the best choice for me, I just didn’t see myself being in Ireland anymore, I don’t want to waste my early twenties in this horrible recession, and I don’t want to graduate into it with no job prospects. I just need to get away from it.”
Tumblr media
“and your girlfriend?”
“We broke up. We called it quits before our exams. I didn’t want to put her through the long distance thing, like, honestly I didn’t want to put myself through it, because I knew I couldn't handle that. I really just… I don't want any attachments when I go, like, no responsibilities towards anybody else. Having a relationship while trying to navigate the changes that are ahead of me,” He shakes his head. “It would be too hard.”
“Wow. How long were you together?”
“Almost a year.”
That seems like forever to me. Nobody I know has been in a relationship for that long. “It must have been a hard decision.”
“It was, she’s a great person.”
“Well you can always get back together at some point in the future, you know, like maybe someday when you graduate…” I don’t continue because he’s already shaking his head no.
“I don’t think so – It’s just over, I can’t really see us picking up where we left off, like, nothing to do with her or the relationship per se. It’s just that I feel like I can’t ever go backwards, once it’s done, it’s done for me. I just don’t really hang on to other people in that way.”
Tumblr media
I think about how I do. I’m a clinger and I always have been, so his philosophy on life is totally foreign to me, just like the idea of jetting off to some unknown city all on my own without speaking the language or knowing how a single thing in its society operates. I think that he’s much braver than I am for doing it, but I’m a little sad that he’s going. Maybe in a parallel universe he and I would have attended the same art college and been friends who hung around in Dublin together after our respective classes, sitting outside coffee shops in the city and talking about art and sculpture and our silly assignments, but none of that will happen. In a few weeks he’ll be gone forever and I will likely never get to see him again.
I look down at our legs and move mine away from his. Perhaps it’s not a good idea for us to be touching after all.
Tumblr media
“You look a little sleepy.” He says to me gently, and I am. I’m more than sleepy. It’s so late now that I must be awake for almost forty hours straight, running purely on the last shreds of adrenaline from being with him, but as soon as he mentions sleep my eyelids feel so heavy, and even the hard, flat wall that my back rests against feels cosy. I’m certain I could doze off in this exact position. I admit it, “I am.”
“Then sleep. I’ll leave.”
“Okay.”
He makes a tiny movement towards me and then hesitates and begins to get up. “Okay Evie, I’ll see you again soon.”
I reach out my weary arms for a hug goodbye and when he leans in to embrace me my face grazes his neck, and he’s warm and his arms are strong and I wonder what the consequences would be if I let myself fall asleep on him right there and then. Maybe he’d be forced to stay here with me all night.
“I’ll text you when I’m free to hang out again.” He says, letting me go.
“Mm”

I lay down to sleep on the bed. The blankets are so warm from where he was sitting.
Before my eyes drift closed and I surrender to my exhaustion I glimpse him climbing nimbly out the window and hopping down onto the grass outside, disappearing into the darkness and leaving the gauzy curtains fluttering behind him. It’s like he was never even here.

It's like everything you say is a sweet revelation
5,694 words Mature Eddie Diaz/Evan Buckley
“Marry me,” Eddie said. It wasn’t a question, it was a sentence. He said it like he was commenting on the weather or last night's Dodgers game. Buck slowly lowered his coffee cup, eyes wide. Eddie lifted his drink and took a sip, a satisfied hum escaped him as he did. “Come again?” “Marry me,” Eddie took another sip of his coffee. “Please?” OR Eddie and Buck go from best friends to married in the course of a day, because their relationship has never been normal.
Buck was no stranger to long, hard shifts. The last 24 hours had been exhausting-  a five alarm not twenty minutes after the shift started, an eight car pileup on the 405 near Inglewood, a kitchen fire at an Italian restaurant, and a few of the usual medical calls. Exhausted didn’t really cover the way he was feeling, but he was never too exhausted for breakfast.
So when Eddie slapped Buck on the shoulder and said, “Betty’s?” After their shift, all Buck could do was nod.
“I gotta pee,” Eddie said when they walked in and he made a beeline toward the bathrooms. Buck followed the waitress to their usual booth, smiling to himself as he slid into the side with his back to the door so Eddie could have the one facing it. He got jumpy if he didn’t have an eye on the exits.
“Hey Buck,” Phyllis, the sixty something server who usually worked the early morning shift, smiled at him as she approached. “Where’s that handsome partner-in-crime of yours?”
“Bathroom,” Buck laughed, reaching for a menu.
“Start with something to drink?”
“Yeah. We’ll both do decaf - I’ll have an iced vanilla latte with almond milk and he’ll have his with oat milk and brown sugar,” Buck gave her a tired smile, which she returned before walking away. Buck loved L.A. for a lot of reasons, but one of the biggest had to be that even a little 24 hour diner had iced coffee and fancy milk options.
Eddie slid into the booth across from Buck a minute later, eyes bright even though he looked as tired as Buck felt. He gently kicked Buck’s foot under the table and Buck was grateful for their ability to communicate without words, because he knew that kick was a thanks for giving him the seat facing the door.
“We get Phyllis?”
“Yeah, I ordered us some decaf.”
“Man, I love you,” Eddie smiled and he looked less tired. Buck grinned back.
“I’ve got two decafs, one latte and one with oat milk and brown sugar,” Phylis said as she reappeared, setting their drinks in front of them. “Ready to order?”
Eddie was looking at Buck like he’d been hit by a train, his eyes wide and so soft. Buck didn’t know why Eddie was looking at him like that, like Buck had hung the moon, and he really wanted to so he could put that look on his face again and again.
“Yeah,” Eddie shook his head like he was trying to clear it. “I’ll have the western omelet with wheat toast and crispy hash browns. He’ll have the spinach and feta omelet with egg whites, like a psycho and no toast.”
“You got it,” She smiled at them as she walked away.
“You know my order?” Buck had a feeling he was looking at Eddie the exact same way Eddie had been looking at him a moment before.
“Marry me,” Eddie said. It wasn’t a question, it was a sentence. He said it like he was commenting on the weather or the Dodgers.
Buck slowly lowered his coffee cup, eyes wide. Eddie lifted his drink and took a sip, a satisfied hum escaped him as he did.
“Come again?”
“Marry me,” Eddie took another sip of his coffee. “Please?”
“You, Eddie Diaz, want to marry me, Evan Buckley?” Buck really needed clarification on this whole thing. “Romantically?”
“Yeah,” Eddie’s voice was soft. He said "yeah” like it should explain everything, which it didn’t.

As winter in Wabang progressed, the days got substantially shorter and the temperature monumentally dipped. The nights were fucking freezing and even with the heating on, the town's inhabitants were in deep need of a warm duvet and fluffy socks for the slightest bit of comfort.
"Rhett! Oh loverboy, your girlfriend is on the phone," Cecilia called out to her son, her sing-song voice ringing through the Abbott household.
Rhett groaned, although he would be lying if he said he was annoyed or anything. He was a loverboy. In every sense, he was. Y/N could bring a smile to his face on his most tiring and worn days, a sparkle to his eyes on his most boring days, and a laugh when things seemed bleak or hopeless.
Cecilia passed the phone over as soon as Rhett arrived with a knowing smirk. With a faux roll of his eyes, Rhett held the receiver up to his ear, put on a gruff and manly voice to greet, "Hey baby...whatcha wearin?" and was swiftly slapped on the arm by his mother. He winced dramatically despite the fact that it hadn't hurt all that much.
"Why don't you come over and find out?" Y/N flirted back, a grin audible in her voice. She knew she had him wrapped around her little finger already and was enjoying playing with fire. It always gave her such joy to watch him fall so hard because she was in the exact same position herself.
After Maria had left high and dry, it seemed like all was lost. Until Y/N came along and he was like 'oh, everything can be okay again'. She had turned his 'but' to a 'can' and that was all he could ask her for. Now here they were, a couple of months down the line and totally head over heels for each other.
"Gonna need some convincing," he chuckled, with absolutely no bite to his words. He was fully convinced already, but still loved teasing her about this. He could picture her face perfectly in his mind; pouting at him through her eyelashes, her tongue poking out between her lips while she bit at them lightly in concentration. A look that usually got him to give in to whatever she wanted.
"I'm cold and need a human radiator." It was snowing heavily outside and the temperature had fallen well below zero, so he knew that was true. Then she added, "And I miss you."
A grin overtook his face, he couldn't help it. Still, he teased, "You saw me last night."
"You don't miss me too, baby?" she said playfully. Even though he'd gotten used to hearing her use pet names, sometimes it did make him weak in the knees and his heart rate skyrocket. Her voice, low and husky with want, sent chills down his spine, making him think that the air in his room might freeze over from how frigid it suddenly felt.
"Never said that, darlin." He heard her chuckle into the receiver. "Gimme twenty minutes and I'll be at your door." And with that, he hung up.
As soon as he put the landline down, Rhett looked over at his mother who was watching him with an expression of amusement. He raised an eyebrow questioningly, but she merely smirked in response. When she didn't say anything else, he rolled his eyes before turning away, smiling to himself as he grabbed his keys. Cecilia was the first person in the Abbott household that had noticed the positive changes in Rhett's behaviour as soon as Y/N came onto the scene and was happy to see them.
Of course, Rhett tried to hide those small hints of happiness under his rough exterior, but his mother could see through it. Easily. As far as she was concerned, he was the perfect gentleman around Y/N and that's all she needed to know. She had also seen the slight blush that appeared whenever she brought up Y/N and her relationship in the past few months. And then there were the times that she caught him staring at Y/N while she spoke, just like a lovestruck idiot. Not exactly subtle.
"Yvette in the florist has a good deal on camellias, by the way," Cecilia pointed out and hoped that Rhett got the hint. It took him a second, but he understood.
Twenty-five minutes late, Rhett was knocking on his girlfriend's door with a bunch of flowers hidden behind his back. She opened the door with a smile and a faux annoyed, "You're five minutes late, Abbott."
He feigned hurt and replied with a fake pout. "Okay, I'll go back home then. I'll take my ass and the gift I got you right back to my own bed. Goodnight, Y/N," he joked with a wink before heading back the way he'd come. She caught his arm and tugged him inside. There was no resistance on his part, he allowed himself to be dragged into her apartment until he was pressed flush against her front, her breath hitting his cheek, and the door closed behind them. He quickly hung his hat on a hook
"Hi," she cooed, wrapping her arms around his shoulders.
"Hey," he replied, his hand resting firmly on her waist, his thumb rubbing circles on the soft fabric of her sides as he tilted his head to kiss her softly on the mouth. His fingers gripped the back of her sweater slightly tighter as he deepened the kiss, their mouths moving in practised synchronicity with one another's. He felt her grip his hair, her nails digging in just slightly, eliciting a moan from his throat and the sound of pleasure being muffled by her skin against his.
Breaking apart for air, they rested their foreheads together. Rhett gazed deeply into her eyes as their breathing calmed down, both of them unable to stop grinning like fools. "Now that's what I call a welcome back kiss," he joked in a raspy voice, gently nudging his nose into hers. She giggled and shook her head, the corner of her lips quirking up at how cute he was.
"Are you gonna give me those flowers or carry on squishing them behind your back?"
"How'd you know these are for you, huh?" He brought the flowers in front of him to hover under her nose. "They could be for Ms Tatum next door for all you know."
"You got a thing for old ladies now?"
Rhett snorted, his hand sliding over the small of her back and squidging her closer to him. Their height difference worked in his favour at that moment, as it often did, and he smugly smirked down at her. Y/N simply rolled her eyes and reached up to peck him on the lips once more, slyly taking the bouquet he held from his hand to hold up for better viewing while he was distracted.
"Mmmm, not bad, not bad, Mr Abbott," Y/N hummed as she took in the beauty of the camellias. They were gorgeous, all pink and pretty with delicate petals that curled ever so slightly at the ends, and she immediately pulled away to find the vase she always used whenever he got her flowers.
Once they were sufficiently placed in water and moved to the centre of her coffee table so she could brag to all of her friends that came to visit, 'Oh, these? My boyfriend - you know, the one who seems so gruff and somewhat grumpy at times? - he very frequently buys me flowers because, and I quote, he says, "Pretty things deserve to be surrounded by other pretty things," so yes, I love my cowboy very much.'
When she turned back around to find Rhett leaning casually against her countertop watching her with amused eyes, she blushed furiously and happily glared, causing him to laugh aloud. "What are you looking at?" she said, trying to keep annoyance in her voice but failing miserably due to the huge smile plastered across her face.
"Am I not allowed to look at my girl? Is that a crime? Am I not allowed to stare at my pretty girl?" he asked, raising his hands defensively and taking an exaggerated step backward, as if to emphasise his point.
But she couldn't resist pulling him toward her once more and planting several kisses all along his jaw and cheek and neck and anywhere she could reach. She giggled as she peppered them everywhere, sending shivers throughout his entire body and a light flush to spread on his cheeks and ears as he grinned from ear to ear and nuzzled into the crook of her neck when he could.
"You eaten?" she mumbled after a while and rested her cheek on top of his hair, closing her eyes as she inhaled the smell that only belonged to him; fresh, woodsy, slightly spicy and warm all at once. She felt him shake his head against her shoulder. "Lemme make you something, baby."
Without waiting for a response, she gave him a quick forehead kiss and moved to her fridge. "Leftover lasagna sound good?" she called over her shoulder, bringing it out as soon as she heard his hum of agreement and the distinct sounds of him shuffling closer to her. As soon as he reached her, his arms were around her waist and his chin on her shoulder, watching as she reheated his food for him.
"You're too good to me, darlin."
"I would argue that you're too good to me and I'm just trying to repay the favour." Her hand came up to card through his hair absentmindedly and her lips curved upwards. "You need to let me spoil you once and a while." A smile crept across his face at that and she continued, "Need to take care of my pretty boy."
Every time she called him that, he became a mess of emotions, his chest growing warm and his heart racing. His eyes fell shut briefly as he leaned further into her touch, the smell of her perfume invading his senses, his heart beating rapidly as he tried to calm himself down. It wasn't fair, he thought to himself. How unfair was it that her scent could still affect him this way? That her touch still made his heart ache and his blood run hotter than it normally would when she was so close to him? But he wasn't going to deny what had happened. He had gone too far to stop himself from falling for her, and he wasn't about to start denying the feelings that he harboured anymore.
"Love you, baby," he admitted sheepishly, almost shyly into the fabric of shoulder. The tone in which he had said the words was different somehow. More vulnerable and raw; far too desperate in its honesty for his liking.
"Ah, so we're saying it while we're awake now?"
"I knew you weren't asleep! You little shit!"
She giggled loudly in his ear as he tickled her sides playfully, making her head fall backwards and accidently bump into his chin. Quickly turning around to cradle the point of impact, Y/N kissed the bump and then wrapped her arms around his neck as she looked straight into his eyes, searching his for any traces of doubt. When she was assured that he was fully committed, she leaned forward and captured his lips again, a soft and tender kiss between lovers, mumbling against his mouth, "Love you too, handsome."
It was hard for Rhett to pull away once the food was ready, but he was starving. The compromise was that Y/N had to sit on his lap as he ate, her fingers gently playing with the hair at the nape of his neck and humming along to the radio. Once he swallowed a large bite of pasta down and wiped his mouth, he turned to look at her expectantly, a soft look etched on his features.
"Say it again."
"I love you."
His expression softened even further. "Again?" he prompted. "Please?" She smiled and nodded, repeating the sweet declaration to him again and again throughout his meal, making sure he got every last word memorised by heart.
And when he was finished, she rose gracefully from the table, picked his plate up and carried it over to sink, placing them in the dishwasher with a flourish before coming back to urge, "You just gonna sit there or are you gonna follow me to bed?" she asked, twirling around on her heel and holding her hand out to him.
He moved so fast to follow behind her, catching up with her and lifting her into his arms as she giggled. They soon reached her room where he laid her on the bed, his body hovering above hers for a moment before she pulled him into a tight hug, her face tucked into his shoulder. They stayed like that for a long while, both of them content to just hold each other, basking in the warmth of their body heat and the duvet wrapped around them. The silence was only broken by occasional whimpers and groans as they moved against one another slowly, languidly, teasing one another and savouring the closeness without breaking the comfortable cocoon they created.
"Do you want to watch a movie or anything?" she finally asked him, breaking the quietness surrounding them and sliding her hands under his shirt to brush her hand up and down his spine lazily.
"Whatever you want, darlin."
Completely lovesick, he sounded out of it, as if he was intoxicated by her touch, or the way her voice made him feel warm inside. He sighed into her neck when she started to trace random patterns into his skin with her nails with the one hand and searching through Netflix with the other. He watched how her eyes scanned the options, the way her tongue poked out of the corner of her mouth slightly in concentration, and the way her brow furrowed in confusion every so often until suddenly, a bright grin lit up her face as she found what she was looking for.
"17 Again?"
"Yup."
Because she'd picked such a good film, he shifted onto his side so he could watch too, propping his head up with one arm as his free hand trailed lazily up Y/N's stomach. The movie had barely begun when the woman beside him shifted closer and snaked one of her legs over his thighs and tugged lightly on his shirt, her hand moving underneath to press against his bare skin, her thumb rubbing circles on his hip bone.
A quarter of the way through, she had to get up from the bathroom and he made a big stink about it. He was grumbling and whining for her entire pee break, only removing the pout from his face when she returned to their previous position and snuggled back it.
"Thank god, I was getting cold, doll."
Then, as they reached the midway point, she placed an (at first) innocent kiss on his neck and only spiced it up when he let out a groan, his head dropping back against the pillows. He could hardly focus on the film as Y/N nibbled softly at the skin on the exposed part of his throat, his breathing increasing as her hand moved lower and lower until they dipped beneath his underwear. Yet, she didn't take his cock into her hand. No, she teased the area's surrounding it with featherlight touches.
"God, baby, please," he groaned quietly as she worked the sensitive flesh, his head rolling back and forth involuntarily.
A low giggle escaped his lips as she pressed a kiss on his cheek and repeated, "Please, what?"
"Oh doll, don't ask stupid questions," he said breathlessly, unable to hold himself back as she dragged her lips to his pulse point and sucked gently on it, smiling wickedly when he squirmed and bit his bottom lip to stifle a moan of pleasure. "Touch me, baby."
She complied immediately, sliding her hand slowly and deliberately down the length of his shaft before wrapping her fingers around him completely and squeezing tightly, causing a muffled groan to escape his lips and him arching up into her touch with a strangled whimper. The sound only encouraged her to go faster and harder, his head dropping back and his eyelids fluttering closed.
"Feel good, pretty boy?" she whispered, her voice sending shivers down his spine, her breath caressing his heated skin deliciously. He wanted to reply to her but instead, he moaned incoherently when she circled her thumb over his tip. He gripped the sheets so tightly his knuckles were almost white and his whole body felt tense, his mind filled with nothing more than her touch and the pleasurable sensation coursing through every nerve. His breath grew more ragged and uneven, his whole body taut with restrained desire, sweat beading on his forehead as he struggled to hold back his release.
When she felt the first surge of it course through his body, she cooed, "Come on, handsome. Let go." As he released, his body jerked violently, the sudden release leaving him gasping for air and the tension ebbing away from his frame as it did so. She grinned wickedly as he rolled onto his back, his chest rising and falling heavily as he gasped and caught his breath. "Good boy, baby."
He glanced at her with hooded eyes as she brushed her fingers soothingly through his hair. "How do you do that to me?" he breathed in disbelief, staring at her forlornly as though she were the sun shining from the heavens.
"Do what, gorgeous?"
"Turn me into your bitch."
While that statement was true, she laughed brightly at his choice of words before raising her hand to her lips to lick the remnants of him from her skin, causing him to groan and squeeze at her thigh in frustration. She was doing exactly what he needed – taking care of him, loving him unconditionally and she was doing it whilst looking so goddamned sexy.
And it wasn't fair! It was all his fault that he wasn't in control of his own body when she did that, not that he ever really wanted to be in control, because it made him happy just being able to watch her do whatever the hell she pleased.
Yet, when he tried to repay the favour, she stopped his hand. "I'm okay, baby", she told him with a smile, pushing his hand off of her thigh and resting it atop her stomach. She ran her fingers through his hair, sighing deeply as she focused her attention back onto the movie.
"What's up with you?" he asked curiously, tilting his head to catch her gaze.
"Time of the month."
At that, his eyebrows shot upwards. "What? Why didn't you say? I could've got aspirin. Could've got chocolate. Hot water bottle. A bunch of shit to make you feel better." She chuckled softly and shook her head, reaching up to place a gentle kiss on his lips as her laughter died down. "Are you in pain? Need anything?"
Admittedly, she was in a little pain but the comfort between them already was more than enough to calm her down.
"Rhett, my love, I am fine." Her fingers danced gently along his jawline and across his cheek as she continued to talk. "Besides, you've been working hard today too, remember? You deserve some time to yourself, darling."
"Are you sure? If you need something, I can go get it."
Eyes softening, she cupped his cheek tenderly, watching the small creases form between his brows with a frown as concern settled into them. "Baby, all I need is a few tampons and my big strong Teddy bear of a boyfriend. I've got both of those so I'm more than okay." His worried expression melted when she smiled, leaning forward to place a lingering kiss on his cheek. "Just relax, sweetheart. Watch Zac Efron be charming with me."
So, he did. He followed her wishes. He pulled her back onto his chest, holding her close to his chest and letting his cheek drop down to rest on her hair, placing a peck on it every now and again until she fell asleep curled up against his body.
As always, they fell fast asleep like that, curled up together, their arms and legs tangling as they slept peacefully in each other's embrace. And unlike the many inhabitants of Wabang that were single, they were perfectly warm and snug.
Plus, they would stay that way for longer than either imagined as when Rhett woke up early the next morning to get ready for another day on the ranch, he very quickly found himself snowed in. There was no way he was passing up this opportunity to spend the entire day as Y/N's human radiator and certified pillow for the rest of the snowstorm.

When Davey wakes up, his first thought is that it’s an in between day. It’s not a good day, but it’s not a bad day just yet. He just feels…nothing. And sometimes, that’s good. He’s not numb with sadness, or overly optimistic about the day ahead of him.
He peaks a look at Jack, to see that the other boy is already awake, watching him intently. Jack looks at him like he’s hung the moon, and Davey has never understood what it is that Jack actually sees in him. He doesn’t say this aloud though, scared that he’ll push him away or that he’ll help Jack see sense.
“Good morning handsome,” Jack says softly, lifting his arm and running his fingers through Joe’s hair. He smiles at the action, moving even closer to Jack.
“Hi you,” he returns. It’s moments like this that he’s hit with such an adoration for his boyfriend. He tries to keep it down, since it’s still early days, but he’s never felt so strongly about someone before. “What time is it?”
Jack stops, turning over to check his phone, before he continues his actions. “Much later than it should be. I’m supposed to be meeting Charlie for lunch in an hour,” he tells Davey, and Davey feels disappointed that Jack needs to leave so soon. “I wish I could stay here with you forever.”
It’s almost like Jack’s read his mind, so he leans in and presses a kiss on the corner of Jack’s lips, then trailing a line of soft, coaxing kisses across his shoulder, up the side of his neck and then finally all over his cheeks. He sighs happily, wanting to stay in this moment for a little bit longer.
Jack’s phone vibrates, but he doesn’t answer. Instead, he holds onto Davey tightly, resting his head against his chest. It’s a simple action, but god he’s so in love with Jack, he wants to cry. Instead, he presses a kiss onto Jack’s temple. “Shouldn’t you be getting up?”
“Charlie can wait,” Jack says, as if it’s so simple, like the whole world is waiting on them. He likes the sound of that, so he doesn’t say anything. Instead, he presses his lips to Jack’s again, letting himself melt into it. “I’m always going to want to want to kiss you. I’d kiss you the entire morning if I could.”
Davey smiles at this, wrapping his arms around Jack’s neck, bringing him closer. “We have all morning.”
~
They don’t stay there all morning, but Jack does end up getting into town twenty minutes later than planned. The photos he’s sent of a pouting Charlie should make him feel guilty, but he’s smart enough to realise that it won’t be the last time it’s going to happen.
He’s still lying in bed, when the alarm on his phone starts to ring, reminding him to take his medication. He gets up, stretching his tired limbs, and makes his way to the bathroom cabinet. He switches the light on, and grabs the bottle of antidepressants that he’s been dependent on for much too long. He swallows a pill down, his eyes falling onto the reflection standing in front of him in the mirror, almost like he’s waiting to see the difference. It’s never there.
He’s still Davey, every single detail about him is the exact same, except for a hickey on his neck that Jack had left on him before he had left. He wonders if Jack knew he had to take these, would he still see Davey the same way? He’s never told anyone about this part of life, not even his family, and he’s almost afraid that little parts will start to unravel once the truth is out there.
He screws the lid of the bottle shut, pushing it back into the cabinet.
A pill a day is all it takes, his doctor used to tell him. Things get better. It’s all about consistency. Take your meds. Track your moods. Stick to your habits. Don’t let yourself feel too much. Be rational, but don’t let the bad days get you down. Repeat, repeat, repeat. Sometimes, it gets a little suffocating.
Today’s one of those days.
He shuts the cabinet door, and makes his way back to bed.
~
When Jack comes back, he doesn’t say anything. Instead, he crawls into bed beside Davey. Jack doesn’t push, instead he tells him all about Charlie and everything they had gotten up to. He listens to every word, lets the sound of Jack’s voice drift him into a peaceful slumber.
He can feel Jack’s ragged breathing against his cheek and his own rapid pulse in his temples and it’s so dizzying, all the sensations, and so new, and so familiar.
Jack kisses him like he wants to tell him something, and Davey kisses him back.
~
It takes him a while to get out of bed again, and then it takes him another while to take a shower and get dressed and when he tries to style his hair, Jack messes it up for him with one swift movement and then peppers his face with little kisses until his frown goes away.
”I hate you,” he tells him, and Jack snorts.
”That’s not what you were saying last night,” he mutters, raising his eyebrows suggestively, and it’s enough to make Davey blush, and Jack cackles, delighted.
He likes moments like this, because he feels less lonely. Jack doesn’t understand everything yet, but it’s okay. Because Jack’s patient, he doesn’t demand answers to questions that are swirling above their heads and he doesn’t expect too much of Davey. In this moment, he’s not entirely happy. But it’s a start, and he knows he’ll have Jack by his side, which makes him feel stronger than he has for a while.
When he steals a glance at him in the mirror, Jack is smiling at him. He turns, taking in the sight of his boyfriend in front of him. He takes his hand, tangles their fingers together, and presses a kiss to his temple.
Outside, the world carries on without them.

A floppy haired blonde boy chuckled as he hoisted himself out of the freezing water and on the giant wooden door.
"I told you there was room." Like a wet dog he shook his head, water spraying across the girls face. She scooted to the side of the floating door, their only source of refuge from the dark icy water below. She sat, knit her brows together and tried to speak.
"Shhhh, it's okay. We're together again."
The boy, who she recognized now as young Leonardo DiCaprio, scooted closer to her. How big was this door exactly? Why did he have tentacles for legs?
It didn't matter, this was young Leonardo DiCaprio, nay, this was Jack Dawson.
The door seemed to grow under them, now the size of a small sail boat.
"Jack, will we ever be saved?" She asked, her voice no more than a whisper.
Jack Dawson looked at her with his steel blue eyes from underneath his golden tendrils of hair. When did his hair grow to touch his shoulders?
There was no time for questions, pirates could be seen in the distance and this half-man half-tentacled creature that was Jack Dawson had a plan.
"Quickly, before they reach us!" He smashed his cold lips up on hers. It was a cold and impressively wet kiss. Not all together unpleasant but not the most inviting either. His hands drifted to her chest. Jack sighed happily as he fumbled with her breasts. She imagined it was how the dough felt when it was being kneaded into bread.
His tentacle legs slithered around her legs pushing them up and open. Her frilly victorian nightgown falling around her hips.
She felt heat radiate between her thighs, excited. A single writhing tentacle wriggled between her legs.
*Beep beep beep beep*
Eyes still shut tight, Perry slapped the bed in search of the solid rectangle emitting the ghastly alarm. The phone was nearly halfway across the bed crumpled inside her blanket. Squinting, Perry dismissed the alarm.
"Okay okay...you can do this." The words of self encouragement, though well meaning, hung empty in the quiet room. About twenty minutes later Perry hauled herself from bed. Another thirty minutes passed and she stood leaning across her kitchen counter flicking through Instagram reels.
A person doing a tour of their insanely decorated home was holding an old 90's themed picture frame. "I don't know what I'll put in this.....maybe a picture of young Leonardo DiCaprio....a lesbians dream girl "
Perry chuckled. She gave the video a heart before scrolling through other reels. Something about foraging mushrooms, a funny cat video, a girl getting ready with sponsored makeup brands, a hot lumberjack lady cutting wood, a skinny boy in an oversized T-shirt and Bass Pro Shops hat playing a guitar.
Perry clunked the phone down, took a sip of her room temperature coffee, and rubbed her face. It was time for work.
She didn't dislike her job, it was just, work you know? Who actually likes doing the same exact thing over and over and over and over and over and.....you get it.
But at least she could think of young Leonardo DiCaprio and his Jack Dawson octo-boy look alike and chuckle to herself.

Has a wife named Dolley
He’s Scottish and immigrated to America when the war started
early to mid twenties
He’d prefer to just be home with his family
Unfortunately he doesn’t get that option because he gets shot in the head by a British soldier
No hard feelings though
He’s a pretty forgiving person regardless
He’s the oldest ghost, which is still pretty young by most standards
He has a little portrait of his wife in his pocket
Dolley was pregnant when he died, and gave birth to twin sons, Thomas Jr and Henry
Thomas has a gun on him as a ghost, so he just shoots ghost bullets at people
But he’s a sweetheart, I swear
He gives Edward his coat and forgets that it goes back to his body automatically
Edward
he’s around fifteen
He somehow managed to sneak into the Vietnam War
Edward lives in an abusive household and would honestly prefer to be anywhere
He thought he was going to be a hero and get himself out of the situation he was in
He watches someone die, which traumatises him
He gave his jacket to a fellow soldier, someone younger than him, and decided to go back to America
He gets sent home for his age. When he gets returned, it’s winter and snowing
He knows he’s getting weaker, so he tries to get inside but the door is locked
Edward gets hypothermia and dies outside the door
Edward didn’t expect to be a ghost, so he mostly walked around for a long time
Before Thomas found him
He’s quite mature for his age because he’s been dead for so long, and he already looks older than he is
It’ll never not be funny to me that Edward, a fifteen year old boy, and William, a fifty year old man, have the exact same music culture opinions because they overlap so much
Charles
Around early thirties
1870s-80s
Most people call her Charlie, but because she were so antisocial as a child nobody knows she’s not a man when they gets older
Except for her family, who aren’t very wealthy
People just assume she’s a man because she dresses like one for the time
And her birth name is Charles so people don’t even question it
She also travels a lot so people don’t have enough time to investigate her background
She just get invited to events and balls under the assumption
That’s where she meet ✨Millie
Who’s a rich man’s daughter and definitely not someone Charlie should be with
But she ends up with her anyway
Millie’s father grows increasingly suspicious of her and decides to find out who she really is
So he meets her brother (who’s also William’s father) and finds out she’s a woman
Basically he’s so enraged by a woman tricking all these men that he tracks her down and catches Charlie and Millie
Which pisses him off more, so he pays off the local police force and has Charlie tried for some made up terrible offence they can kill her for
And she gets publicly hung
Charlie has a broken noose permanently attached to her ghost and makes jokes about it that Thomas doesn’t appreciate
He’s just happy to have a friend after so long
She still enjoys travelling with the convenience of not having to pay, dragging Thomas all over the world
William
he’s born around 1895 with his father dying shortly after
He joins the war in his early twenties and stays till he dies
He fights in the first and second world wars
He really likes to draw and paint
He moves to England and thus has a British accent as a ghost rather than American as he lives there for thirty years
With his boyfriend that whole time
William becomes continuously worn down by the fighting, he has depression through most of his life
The end of the war leads to him having a drink, which causes a heart attack
Sort of the war kills him from the inside out
All the other ghosts like to joke he’s not a real American because of his accent
He has these really piercing blue eyes that started in the family with Thomas’ wife
Charlie is technically his aunt, but they never treat each other that way
They both hate his father
William also has a ghost gun, he became a general before he died
He and Thomas have ghost duels
Anna-Gloria
She’s around her early forties
Dies in the late 60s early 70s
Anna has a husband who is a grade a dick and she can’t stand him
Anna had a really hard time getting pregnant, and considers her son to be extra special
Her son Peter means that she has a living great grandson, James
Anna is quite proud of that
She’s a very defiant person in order to have her voice heard
Anna really loves gardening and plants, she likes farming and basically anything agriculture
One night she goes out dressed very sixties (multicoloured dress and all that) and comes home to her husband absolutely furious
She argues with him but tries to keep her son away
Her husband hits her in the head a couple times and she ends up dying from the trauma
Anna is untrustworthy of people in death, except for William
They had exchanged letters when she was a young girl
She brags about her side of the family having living descendants to William and Charlie
She’s quite motherly with Edward, even though it frustrates him sometimes
She’s the only one with a power of quickening the growth of plants
Think flowers that bloom strangely early
Richard
Born around the same time Anna died
He dies in the late 90s
Richard is initially timid and stutters when he speaks
His parents are wealthy
He tries to become a politician, but he can’t seem to get over the social skills portion of it
He joins the gulf war and meets his future wife Alex, who helps him with his confidence
He’s like the George III of politicians, completely committed to her
He gets in trouble with other things like gambling and lying to get his way
He becomes popular enough after the war to be a successful politician albeit ignoring his family, but his actions get him enemies in the mafia
So they shoot him during a public speech
In front of his wife Alex and daughter Angelica
Richard is more used to being a ghost than Anna is, which is odd considering their gap
He still gets to see his family, who he’s quite proud of
He looks a lot like William when he was younger
Richard spends most of his time making fun of the other ghosts to compensate for his own panic about certain things
He likes stealing their guns and causing problems

How do I Love Thee?
Chapter 3 - Do you believe in Coincidences?
Your feet pounded against the ground in a steady rhythm, following the trails further through the trees. It felt as though you had been jogging for miles. You had woken up early that morning, hoping to be out of the house before your mum had left for work. No such luck. She looked exhausted, her clothes all rumpled, and case files strewn in front of her, most of which centred around attacks in these very woods. She had begged you to be careful. It was daylight outside and you promised to be a few hours at most. Eventually she had relented, unlike the crease in her brow.
Trees stretched for miles in varying shades of orange and yellow through the forest. Their leaves carpeting the forest floor muffling your steps. Boughs bent heavily overhead blocking out any trace of the sky above. The small pools of light breaking through the canopy above were the only signs it was still morning. Between drooping limbs, you glimpsed flashes of the lake in the distance. The water was cool and crisp on the morning air. Dirt paths eventually gave way to rocky shores. Pebbles crunched against each other breaking the quiet as you came closer to the water. Larger, moss-covered rocks decorated the lakes edge. You took everything in taking everything in.
Valleys of pine and maple trees surrounded the base of sheer cliff faces, reflecting perfectly in the serene waters below. Remnants of the early morning mist clinging to its surface. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky as you snapped a photo of the scene in front of you. It was so secluded and relaxing here. Being by the water had always calmed you. Closing your eyes, the world melted away until all you heard was the water gently lapping at your feet.
“Boo,” a deep voice said into your ear.
Startled you slid sideways off the rock and landed butt first into the icy water. Loud laughter broke through your shock as a smug looking Cas stood above you, admiring his handiwork.
“Very funny.” You snapped, hauling yourself up. The tops of your leggings were soaked and cold started to seep through.
“I certainly thought so.” He said, eyes flashing with mirth. “Funny running into you here.”
Rolling your eyes, you headed back towards the pathways. “Yet you found me.”
“I’m starting to think you’re not happy to see me?” Cas said following after you.
“Geeze, you think? What were you expecting? ‘Hey Cas, thanks for showing up and making me wet?’” A suggestive look crossed Cas’s face as you paused, realising what you had just said. “Not. Another. Word.” You warned.
“Don’t be like that New Girl, at least let me walk you back.”
Ignoring him you carried on. The cold was starting to seep into your skin, making you shiver. You’d barely taken five steps when strong hands gripped your hips, your back pressed firmly against a tree. Cas leant into you, his breath tickling your throat.
“Seriously, with all these attacks, who knows what’s lurking out there, hmm? Best we stick together,” he said, hid thumbs lingering against your skin. That shiver was nothing to do with the cold. In a daze, you stood there dumbfounded as he draped his jacket over your shoulders. It hung off your frame, his scent clung to it as you pulled it closer, wild and fresh.
“I didn’t take you for a gentleman,” you said.
“Who said anything about being a gentleman? I’m just giving a chance for you to ogle me a little longer.” He said, winking at you. “I’m much more interested in you though. How about we play twenty-one questions? I ask, you answer, no exceptions.”
He expected you to say no. He was looking at you the exact same way he did at the clothing store and just like then, you took the bait. Jutting out your chin, you stared at him defiantly, “I’m in.”
He looked at you for a long moment before he pushed himself away. “What’s your favourite colour?” He asked, not looking back.
“Blue?” You answered unsure, caught off guard. That was not what you expected his first question to be.
“What do you do for fun?” He said, helping you up a small slope.
“Umm, cooking. My mum’s specialty was TV dinners so unless I wanted to turn into one, someone had to step it up. I love anything that gets me out of the house, photography, hiking, stargazing. It’s nice to get lost in another world for a little while.”
“Where’s your dad?”
At least he cut to the chase. “He left my mum when I was 10. Nothing exciting or original, my mum worked long hours to support us, and my dad didn’t like it. He’s always been very traditional and stubborn. He met another woman; they have their 2.5 kids and the daughter from the failed marriage doesn’t really fit in. I get a card here and there but that’s about it.” The two of you walked in companiable silence, a mutual understanding passing between you. Sensing the shift in mood, Cas turned on a charming smile.
“Now, don’t say everything at once but what do you like about me most?” He asked, rolling back his shoulders and stretching his chest beneath his shirt.
“Well, it’s definitely not your modesty,” you snorted.
“Laugh all you want; I know you got a good look the other day.” He said it so casually it made your cheeks burn.
“You’re real,” you told him. “You’re honest about your thoughts and feelings – good or bad.” There was something admirable about that. For a brief second surprise flashed across his face as you continued through the woods answering more of Cas’s questions.
“Is there anything that you’d change about yourself?”
“My hair,” you said immediately. “The colour, the curls, it never does what it’s supposed to-.” Cas reached for your hair, tucking a wayward strand behind your ear.
“I kinda like it.”
Your face officially blended into your hair. Jolting in surprise, you tried to pull yourself backwards to put some distance between you, but Cas’s grip remained firm. The look on his face was devious asked his next question, “Who was your first kiss?”
This was the type of question you expected from him. The one you had dreaded. Who wants to tell people that they’re the 17-year-old who hasn’t been kissed yet? You avoided looking at him as your brain scrambled to come up with something. “Umm, w-well. I-. “
Cas chuckled next to you. You ducked behind a curtain of your hair, bracing yourself for his teasing. It’d be nothing you hadn’t heard before. “Was that entire city blind?”
Dumbfounded, you reflexively pulled away and this time he let you go, his gaze slid over you playfully. He had an annoying habit of overwhelming you.
“My friends are throwing a party tonight; do you want to come?”
“Thanks, but I already have plans.” He didn’t need to know they were with your pyjamas and TV.
Cas stared at you incredulously, “are you blowing me off?”
“I don’t think we’re quite there yet,” you quipped, “but I’m afraid so, even you can’t get what you want all the time.”
“Well, if you want to die of boredom be my guest, go ahead,” he pouted as you reached the edge of the forest. “I’ll be seeing you around New Girl, that’s a promise.”
***
“So just how hot are we talking here?” Tess asked with a serious expression from your phone.
“Like Jess Mariano meets Spike levels of hot.”’
Tess let out a long whistle, “Wow, you are in trouble! Is it bad that I wish it were me?”
“Down girl,” you laughed, “it was so bad Tess! I looked like such an idiot! I landed ass first straight in the water. If he hadn’t given me his jacket-”
“W-w-w-wait a minute! Hold the phone!” She said sitting up ramrod straight, “he gave you, his jacket!? It’s a sign!”
“A sign of what? That he forgot his jacket?”
“Aww, my poor, sweet, innocent Parker. Wake up and smell the cute-guy coffee! He wants an excuse to see you again, it’s textbook! Let’s review the facts, shall we? First, he turns up in the forest, where you just so happen to be. Second, he scares you just enough to make you land in the water. Third, after you refuse to go to a party with him, he leaves his jacket. Remind me to beat you over the head for that the next time I see you.”
“Tess, I love you but please put the corkboard and string away. I told you that I had plans already anyway.”
“With your pyjamas and blanket Parker! When a hot guy asks you out you go! It’s senior year and you promised to get out there and try new things. Do not stay small just because it’s comfortable, yes? Good. Now the next time you talk to me, it better be with a mouth that’s been locked with his, byeeee.”
***
Everything was ready and in T-minus 5 minutes, there’d be hot, fresh pizza. All the snacks were on the coffee table with extra gummy teeth and marshmallow ghosts for the occasion. The threadbare blanket covered the back of the sofa ready to shield you from harm. Every year the run up to Halloween meant it was time for a movie marathon. All the old classics dusted off and tonight it was the holiday’s namesake, which as it happened was also one of your favourites. Grabbing it from the top shelf, a shadow passed the window, the moonlight painting a silhouette across the floorboards. Your eyes met Cas’s through the glass. For the second time that day, you ended up in an undignified heap on the floor, a high-pitched squeak escaping your throat.
“Jesus Christ Cas! Are you trying to give me a heart attack!” You yelled, flinging the door open and marching through it, straight into his chest. Strong hands steadied your shoulders. “How did you-. You were just…” You trailed off, pointing at the window. Cas placed a finger against your lips with a gentle shush.
“Relax, New Girl. My divine presence has been known to render people speechless. Don’t blame yourself, you’re only human after all.”
Glaring at him, you swatted his hand away. “Next time, just use the door like a normal person.”
“There’s gonna be a next time?” Cas pondered, quirking his eyebrow.
“What do you want?” You asked sighing heavily.
“My jacket, the one that you stole.”
“Technically, you gave it to me,” you said, “come in.” Peering around, you spotted a vintage black Ford Mustang. “Huh,” you wondered aloud, “I got more of a motorcycle vibe.” Having made himself completely at home in the kitchen, Cas placed his elbow on the breakfast bar and propped his chin in his hand.
“Is that so?” His eyes held yours unwaveringly, your stomach fluttering nervously.
“The boots, the jacket, the chains. I’ll admit that the car matches your aesthetic though.” You told him as you placed the pizza on the counter.
A deep chuckle rumbled through his back. Resting his arms against yours on the countertop, “guilty as charged. I find there’s nothing better than a pretty lady purring underneath you. But the car is practical, we should go for a ride sometime.”
Damn him. How did he always find a way to make you flustered? Any ability to act like a normal human being flew out of the window when he was around. At least he knew you did a great impression of a skittish tomato. Some point during your mid-night crisis Cas had made his way over to a set of photos at the bottom of the staircase.
“That’s when me and my mum went whale watching, I’d badgered her for ages. I thought it was hilarious when one of them sprayed her, not so much when it happened to me,” you said nodding at the last frame. Your mum held you tight round your waist as you tried to flee. Spray rained down drenching you both. Hair stuck to her face; a bright smile covered your mum’s face whilst you screamed at the injustice of it all. Next to you Cas had grown quiet through your story. He was looking at the pictures with a mixture of anger and curiosity.
“Are you ok?” Quiet wasn’t something that you associated with him.
“You and your mum seem close,” was all he said in reply.
“It’s just the two of us, we have to be. But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. What about you parents?”
His face immediately darkened, jaw ticking. “They aren’t around anymore.”
Way to put your foot in it Parker! “Cas, I’m- “
“So, New Girl, when are you giving me the rest of the tour? You’ve been a really bad host so far.” Clearly your previous conversation was over.
“It’s hard to host when you didn’t invite said guest to begin with. The ‘tour’ ends here anyway, upstairs is off limits.”
“Maybe that next time you talked about?” He said, sinking into your sofa as he scrolled through his phone. “What are we watching?”
“We’re not watching anything,” you said, throwing his jacket to him. “I’m watching a movie and you’re going to your party.”
“I already told them I had other plans, I’m yours all evening.”
“Lucky me.” You relented sitting next to him and pressed play. The opening score soon made the hairs at the base of your neck stand on end and you were soon lost in Haddonfield, until the lights went out.
“That’s better,” he said, curling an arm around your shoulders. “Scary films aren’t the same with the lights on.”
You didn’t answer him, you couldn’t. You dug your fingernails into your thighs, knuckles turning pure white as the bone strained against the skin. Panic clawed its way from the pit of your stomach and up your throat. Faintly, you registered Cas calling your name beside you, but your heart was beating like tiny fists against your chest, drowning him out. Now was not the time to panic. There was no way to explain a fear of the dark at your age. It would stop soon, it always did, you just needed to ride it out.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” Cas said softly, cradling your face in his palms. “I never thought I’d say this but you’re not looking so hot.”
You chuckled weakly, “damsels in distress not your thing?” Your chest tightened, aching as though it was bruised. It was taking a lot of effort to speak.
He wasn’t giving up easily. His grip tightened on your face. Looking slightly uncomfortable he asked, “Do you- do you not like the dark?”
You shook your head, turning away from him. It wasn’t something you were comfortable talking about. You’d never spoke to anyone about this, not even Tess. The idea of him seeing you so vulnerable made you uneasy. Yet as much as he enjoyed teasing you, he’d never been cruel. Even now he hadn’t laughed or made you feel like an idiot. Risking a glance back toward him, Cas still had the same tenderness as he watched you.
“Nothing will get you whilst I’m here but just to make sure,” he broke off, lifting you effortlessly into his lap with your legs laid across him. He picked up the blanket from the back of the sofa and enveloped you in it, drawing you against his chest.
Okay, he was definitely trying to give you heart attack because this was not helping you at all.
He bent towards you and murmured “Like I said, you’re only human.”
Throughout the rest of the movie, it was impossible to concentrate. Cas was a distraction and he delighted in it. He found any reason to touch you, whether if was massaging your calves or his thumbs tracing the bottom of your back. It’d have been easier to be mad at him, but the dark was less of a problem with him around. It made you much jumpier, but he just used it as an excuse to hold you tighter each time. There was light at the end of the tunnel as the film was drew to a close. You’d been doing so well until Michael popped out from behind the couch and Cas chose that moment to brush his fingers against the back of your neck. Popcorn tumbled to the floor in an avalanche as you yelled burying your face into his neck. You breathed him in, the same wild scent that clung to his jacket. Hands threaded themselves through your hair, calming you. Nervously, you peaked out between your curls to find him grinning down at you.
“I’m not too sure spooky is your thing.”
“It’s not my fault you distracted me!” You protested.
“His brow furrowed in mock thought, “I’m pretty sure that is your fault, but let’s go back to how distracting you think I am.”
He was the literal worst, a nightmare in human form and he loved it. Amusement flooded his features as he gripped your chin, tilting your head back to him. He nuzzled closer to you, his mouth inches from yours when his phone rang. Untangling yourself you quickly shuffled to the other end of the couch. Anger flickered across his face before he answered. You needed to create some distance before you did something stupid. Val said this was what Cas did, he played around with new people until he was bored. You wouldn’t hold his attention for long and had no intention of being made a fool of.
“Sorry New Girl, we gotta call it a night. I have to swing by that party and pick up my friends. I’ll see you Monday? If you’re in need of my tour services, let me know, I know all my best spots.”
“On campus or off?”
“Psht, like I’d spoil the surprise.”
***
“Parker, what were you thinking? You can’t be alone in those woods, not with the attacks. I’ll go with you.”
“Gabe, that’s sweet but it’s fine. It was light and I’m in one piece.” You said, distracted by the zombie hoard in front of you. “But, if it makes you feel better, I’ll bring you next time.” GAME OVER flashed on the screen as a zombie tore into your neck. “I just hope you’re a better protector in real life.” He threw a cold French fry at your head as you continued through the arcade, looping your arm through his.
Gabe had invited you to the arcade earlier that morning. It was his workday, but he wanted to show you around a little more. His face had been alight as he showed you his favourite games. Admittedly your heart had turned to mush when he helped a little girl win a stuffed bear from the grabbing machine.
“Sorry, about that, I promised Alicia, I’d help her get one of those for a while.”
Shaking your head, you waved away his apology. “Don’t be, it was really sweet. Are you this good with all kids or is it just the girls who find you adorable?” You teased.
“Actually, I met Alicia when I was volunteering at the hospital. I spend a lot of time on the children’s ward, so I learned on the job how to deal with them.”
“How long have you volunteered?”
“3 years give or take. I mainly help out telling them stories, singing silly songs. Anything to put a smile on their faces.”
“You’ll have to play one for me sometime.”
“Y-yeah, sure.” He stammered. Was there anyway he could be more adorable?
“Well, well, well. If it isn’t angel Gabriel. Is this your latest charity case?”
The boy looked a few years younger than you. He was accompanied by a red head around a similar age to him and an older by who looked to be your age, with jet black hair and dark eyes that lacked any of the playfulness in Cas’s.
“What do you want Scott?” Gabe’s earlier carefree attitude had disappeared. He moved in front of you, sensing your unease.
“Nothing from you, Adalhard,” he spat. The red head placed a hand on his arm, a warning look crossing her face.
“We just wanted to settle a bet.” She said confidently. “Cas said there was a newbie in town and wondered how long it would be before your co-dependency kicked in. It seems I gave you too much credit. I was sure you’d at least make it to the first day of school before slobbering all over her.”
Scott snorted from her side as Gabe’s hands clenched at his sides. Taking a step forward, Gabe’s arm darted out before you could get closer. “I’m not sure what your problem is but Gabe has been nothing but kind since I got here. Maybe if you tried getting your own life, you wouldn’t feel the need to stick your noses anyone else’s.”
Anger coursed over her face as she bared her teeth in a snarl. “You might want to find a leash for your pet Adalhard, you’ll want to be keeping an eye on her.”
Before you could reply, a calm voice broke over the storm, “Margo, that’s quite enough. We need to go.” The older boy said to the others. He clearly held some authority as the girl shut up immediately and unwillingly the two younger ones followed him out of the arcade.
“Who were they?”
Gabe was quiet for a moment until they were out of sight. “That was Scott, Margo and Viktor, They’re part of the Venandi family.”
“I don’t understand why they were so rude to you?”
“The Venandi’s like to cause trouble for anyone who isn’t part of their family. You need to stay away from them Parker, they’re dangerous. Promise me.”
“After that warm welcome, I’m not exactly in a rush to spend time with them.”
Worry was still etched in Gabriel’s brow, but you were determined not to let them ruin your day. Linking your arm back through Gabe’s, spinning him round. “Come on, before the Addams family interrupted us, I believe you were gonna show me your moves.” You said with a playful twirl and shimmy. It seemed to work as the tension drained from Gabe as he laughed at you.
“I’ll agree to anything if it get you to stop doing that.”
With an offended gasp you pulled him in the direction of the DDR machine. “It’s so on Adalhard!”

Example of a One-Shot NSFW Commission
As Y/N walked through the rusted entrance of Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex, he felt a surge of déjà vu. Y/N remembered when he used to come here all the time as a kid, but then it shut down.
Y/N’s flashlight flicked off once, twice, and then it shut off completely.
“Damn it,” Y/N muttered, shaking the batteries, and he tried the switch again. It was no use. The batteries were dead.
“Damn it!” Y/N said, louder this time. He checked his watch. 1:32 AM. That’s probably enough time, Y/N thought to himself.
He approached the center of the lobby, and walked to the foot of the staircase. Y/N looked up at the massive, golden statue of Freddy Fazbear, the pizzeria’s mascot, in awe. He had a flashback from when he stood in this exact same spot, all those years ago, when he escaped the labyrinth.
Clang.
Y/N quickly jerked his head to the left, where the metallic noise came from. Down a maintenance hallway, a flickering light shone vaguely. He cautiously approached the hallway, grabbing a piece of rubble off the floor as protection. Who knew who could be there?
Clang.
There it was again. It sounded like a hammer on a sheet of metal. Could it be possible that the company was trying to rebuild this place?
Y/N slowly approached the lit door, clutching the rock so hard his knuckles turned white, as he read the sign.
“Glamrock Freddy Dressing Room,” he said to himself. Well, it sure as hell wasn’t Glamrock Freddy in there. All the animatronics were decommissioned over twenty years ago.
With a hard kick, Y/N swung open the door, revealing Glamrock Freddy himself.
Freddy’s back was to Y/N, and he did not notice him entering. Y/N coughed, and Freddy turned to face him with a look of shock on his metallic face.
“Y/N! What are you doing back here~” Freddy said in a robotic voice.
Y/N did not reply. He stood there, taking in what he was seeing.
Freddy stood on top of a metal grated floor, tools and 80’s-era clothing littering the ground around him.
Y/N forced himself to speak. “F-Freddy, you’re not wearing any clothes…”
It was true. Bright white light shone off of Freddy’s metal body, highlighting golden 6-pack abs, bulging biceps, and his… lower half.
Freddy’s face turned tomato red, and he quickly crossed his hands over his crotch area, to prevent Y/N from seeing his robotic… thing.
Y/N was in shock. “Why do you have a d-dick? You’re a robot,” he questioned him.
“All the Fazbear Animatronics have dicks. We’re made with them,” Freddy explained.
“But why?”
Freddy smirked. “Animatronics still get horny, you know.”
Y/N’s face flushed. “How big is it…?”
The robot bear lifted his hands. “See for yourself.”
Freddy’s dick was easily the largest Y/N has ever seen. At least a foot long, the weight of his dick and balls hung down from his hips toyingly.
Y/N tried to speak, and failed.
“I bet you weren’t expecting that right?,” the animatronic teased.
He flustered, and forced the words to come out. “Freddy, it’s so… big!”
Freddy lumbered towards Y/N, and grabbed his massive cock with his hand. “Why don’t we compare?”
The robot dropped his dick and it swayed back and forth. He placed his huge robot hands on Y/N’s shoulders, and he shivered at the frigid temperature of Freddy’s palms.
“You couldn’t be any warmer?”
“I can make us both warm.” Freddy moved his hands down Y/N’s chest slowly, feeling every curve and crevice, his eyes never leaving his.
He reached Y/N’s waist, and he curled his fingers around his pantline. Freddy inched Y/N’s jeans down, revealing a tanned body and dick.
“Freddy~”
“Now let’s get off your other half,” Freddy said and he tore Y/N’s t-shirt clean in half. His abs and toned muscles glistened with nervous sweat, and the robot bear placed a hand on his muscular chest as he grabbed both of their dicks with the other.
Y/N shivered, a mix of excitement and cold, and they both looked down at the size difference.
Y/N’s dick was dwarfed by Freddy Fazbear’s massive cock, and he tried to cover his small part. Freddy, however, would not let him. With a single move, the robot knocked him down and turned him, so the metal dick was pressed against Y/N’s ass.
“Freddy, what are you doing-?”
“I’ve been wanting to do this with a human for a long time. I’m tired of just jerking off in my changing room. I need to have some fun now.”
Freddy stroked his dick a few times until it firmed up, growing even more. “Get ready… and… go!”
The robot positioned his dick and trusted forward. Y/N grimaced in pain, but as Freddy pushed farther into him, his face relaxed. Freddy finally reached the base of his dick against Y/N’s ass, and he let out a deep moan.
“F-Freddy… it’s s-s-so d-deep…”
The animatronic laughed. “We haven’t even started yet.”

The Far West chapter 2 part 4
were all smoking pot and cigarettes, and some people were on other drugs, and he had mentioned that this was his first night back on the streets:
“I really don't mind being out here, in fact I prefer it,” Molly who had been homeless for an week shocked, and also an bit intrigued; some people laughed and an few agreed, “Normal people just confuse me anyway, they don't seem to get stick of the same schedule, day in day out. Go to work, come back raise kids, and indoctrinate them to whatever they believe in, they love them, but fuck them up in some way, and taking care of them is a lot of fucking hard work. They work on the bills, watch their favorite television show, and then go to bed to do it all over again,” he said as an train down the way from them begin to approach the group; an small young woman on LSD began to giggle as the train got closer and closer; that night they all slept on pieces of cardboard, because he told them that was at least some kind of bedding, since no one had anything; he was an interesting, handsome and charming man; he told the group he survived heroin addiction; he didn’t seem to be afraid of anyone-he asked almost anyone for money for an beer, and even teased the scariest looking of people; to this day Molly is fascinated by what he said, and hopes that he is doing alright; Molly exits the freeway and soon arrives back at her apartment, while the strings play an sad song as she feels her phone begin to vibrate; she quickly takes it at of her pocket, hangs it and puts it back on her pocket, since she does not like to talk on the phone and drive at the same time; when she parks her car in front of her building she pulls at her phone and sees that it her friend Adam who called her so she calls him back as the sad symphony continues to play.
“Hey Molly,” Adam said in his apartment bedroom studying a chemistry book; he is an sociology major at his local university and is an handsome man in his early twenties with long curly dark brown hair.
            “Hey Adam, what's up?”
“I was wondering if you wanted to see us play sometime next month. I’ll let you know when I know the exact date!”
            “Uhhh yeah, that sounds good!”
“Awesome, it should be a good show!”
            “Where is it?”
            “Pizza for Hire.”
“Nice!” Adam is the bassist in the death metal band Chicken Blood, an popular death metal band in town; Stew was once the drummer of the band, but was fired due to an fist fight he had with Adam in fact, and due to the fact he threw the vocalist's lamp at the wall while he was drunk and high. “How have you been man?”
“Oh I'm good, I got promoted at work.”
“That's awesome! Good for you! So you're a line cook now?”
            “Yeah, it's pretty sweet.”
            “Nice! So who's headlining?”
            “Skeleton Hand!”
“Nice, I like them. They're death metal too right?”
“No they are blackened death metal, you know the cross between black and death metal. They're pretty good. Anyway, I gotta get back to studying.”
“Alright man, I'll see ya at the show.”
            “Awesome, alright see ya then.”
“See ya!” they hung up the phone and Molly goes to her apartment; her roommates aren't home, and she is glad she can play music they wouldn't want to hear; she puts an Charles Mingus album on her stereo in her bedroom, and smokes an joint laying on her bed-she feels relaxed and closes her eyes and feels as though she is dancing to the music; she smokes most of the joint and puts it out on her ashtray which has many roaches, little joints that are too small to smoke, and cigarette butts; she continues to listen to the music stoned before going over to the stereo, turning it off and going to bed.
~
Across town John is also particularly stoned, he had just smoked hash out of an bong in the living room of the house he lives in by himself and is listening to Aphex Twin; he has been more depressed than usual lately, he misses his friends and family, and most of all he misses Alice; besides an few people, he doesn't have an lot of friends yet and doesn't like going out alone, so he mostly stays at home-he likes his roommates just fine and sometimes they hang out but mostly keep to themselves; he remembers the sad and strange thing that Chef Donna had said at work that day:
“You wouldn't believe it, she got canned and kicked out of her house on the same day last year by someone like that,” they were talking about people who use heavy drugs, “her son and his girlfriend lived with them, and my friend wanted to kick her and her son out since they were using drugs. So instead of moving out she schemes and gets her kicked out of her apartment!
“Whoa! How did she do that?” Kevin shot back.
“She lied to their landlord by telling her she hit this woman, and that she always feels threatened by her, and she took her side and kicked her out the next day; which was the same day that she spiked her coffee with an little bit of different kinds of drugs, which made her really sick, she was throwing up an lot and she had to go home; and unfortunately for her she had used an lot of her sick days since she gets sick an lot, and her boss was not a friend of hers, and fired her right after she got kicked out of her apartment!”
            “That's fucking horrible!”
“I know, right? She has a good job and a nice place now, but for an while she lived out of her car, and occasionally my house.”
“Nice!”            John had sat there for an while as the music played and thought about what he was doing last year, and one memory in particular arose in his mind: Alice and an few of their friends danced the night away at an rave under the influence of LSD and ecstasy; the lovers danced and grind against each other as the fast paced music pulsed loudly out of the speakers- all of their highs got stronger as the night went on, and they didn't stop the pace of their dancing and in fact they started to dance faster; after wards they drank an lot of water, and then went to the beach where they smoked pot before all going home; Alice took John further up the beach, and they watched the sun rise together. This is an fond memory of his, and he gets up off the couch and looks through his fridge for something good when he sees an pizza box on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator- he opens knowing it had been in there for an while, 'This will still be good,' he thinks to himself, though when he does he sees the pizza covered in mold.

To Be Seen
Pairing: Natasha Romanoff x gn!reader
Warnings: Hints at neglect
Word Count: 3.5k
Summary: All superpowers seem to have a downside to them. Invisibility is no exception.
You got your first pair of glasses when you turned seven. The black frames were a birthday present of sorts. You had your eye set on a transparent blue pair, or honestly any of the many colorful options that lined the shelves, but your mother had grabbed the black ones without a word to you and placed them on the counter. Then the two of you went home, back to the always busy house, buzzing with the sounds of your siblings’ chatter and the television that entertained your constantly preoccupied father. There was no cake, no other presents, not even a “congratulations” or a “happy birthday,” but that was okay. That was okay because you had already gotten the gift of sight.
“Happy birthday, Y/N,” you whispered to yourself that night, your younger sister already sound asleep beside you while you looked up at the glow-in-the-dark shapes taped to the ceiling. The glasses turned the green fuzzy blobs into actual stars, their points clear and easily counted as you drifted off to sleep with the lenses still on. “You can see now.”
---
You found out you could make yourself invisible on the day you hit ten years old. When you woke up, the first thing you did was look at yourself in the mirror, trying to see if you looked any different from the day before, when you were nine. Double digits should mean double the change, right? But there was no change from when you weren’t in the mirror to when you were.
At first, you thought it must’ve been a prank from your older brother, but one look in the bathroom mirror told you that this was something else. It took you about half an hour before you somehow managed to become visible again, but when you did, you walked into the kitchen to find everything the same as it was the night before. No one hung streamers around the house or left a card on the counter, but that was okay. That was okay because you had a gift.
---
On your twenty-seventh birthday, you were recruited to be an Avenger. Three years ago on that exact day, you had quit your office job and joined SHIELD, only as a trainee, but you made your way through the ranks. You had the advantage of a mastered superpower—turning invisible came useful on the countless days you wished the world would just swallow you whole—but you still had to learn to use it like an agent. You were never remarkable, never being praised as the top of your class nor critiqued as one of the worst. You were always in the middle. Always just… there.
But Fury had seen something in you, and now here you were, packing your things to move into the Avengers Tower. You honestly weren’t sure what he saw in you; no one did. There were other SHIELD agents with far more useful powers and much better combat skills, yet he had picked you and no one else, making you the third SHIELD agent to join the Avengers since Clint Barton and Natasha Romanoff.
You looked around the empty apartment, scanning for something you and your imperfect vision might have missed, but saw nothing. Was that what others saw when they looked at you, thinking they had packed the whole room while you were standing right in front of them, arms waving in their face and voice begging for them to acknowledge you? No matter. Fury had told you Natasha would be picking you up at 2, meaning you had just over thirty minutes before she got here. Life moved on, and so would you.
Just like in years prior, there were no claps on the back, shiny bows, or patterned gift wrapping, but that was okay. That was okay because you had gotten the gift to protect and serve others.
---
You laid into the punching bag, twenty-eight non-stop uppercuts for your new age as of today. You brushed one hand across your forehead to interrupt the sweat droplets that ran from your hair, Bruce doing his best to praise you in the meantime.
“Good work, Y/N, yeah. Um, stronger than the ones you’ve been doing in the past. Better form too. I think.” You were sure you weren’t meant to hear his last sentence, but a roll of Natasha’s eyes next to you was enough to make you laugh it off. It wasn’t like you could blame him. Training others wasn’t his forte. You weren’t even sure if he trained himself.
Fury’s interest in you had been short-lived, it seemed. To be fair, you were lucky he recruited you in the first place and even luckier that he let you stay on the team. Still, you’d be lying if you said you weren’t disappointed in how you turned out to just be a new puppy to him. With your novelty now wearing off, you became the responsibility of people like Bruce, who never quite wanted you in the first place.
You had nothing against the gentle and kindhearted scientist, but Steve, Nat, or even Clint would’ve been much more obvious choices. Yet somehow the scientist was who Fury appointed. Maybe he was just the only one who accepted the task, the only one not bold enough to deny Fury’s orders outright. Strangely enough, Nat always showed up, but you weren’t entirely sure why, seeing as she usually sat there silently for most of it. She’d occasionally lean in to whisper something to Bruce, but she rarely said anything to you.
Much to Bruce’s—and maybe Natasha’s—relief, Tony strutted into the gym, his charisma already filling in the awkward gaps between you guys that never seemed to disappear, no matter how much time passed.
“Bruce, Nat, just the people I was looking for! It was great to see you guys at the party last night.” You pushed your glasses back up the bridge of your nose before going back to the punching bag; obviously, he was not here to speak with you. As you beat into the bag, getting lost in the rattling of the chain and the rhythm of the combinations, you thought back to last night, when you heard the Avengers’ laughter as they prepared for the gala.
-
You sat in the living room watching a movie with the tiniest but fiercest hope that someone might see you and ask you to come along. This was a party for the Avengers, after all, to celebrate the success of a mission that you had been part of. It had been up to you to cut the power and incapacitate the leader. Somehow the credit had gone to Clint, all the news stations celebrating the archer and his amazing feat. It was fine, whatever, just another chip to brush off of your shoulder—a teeny, tiny chip, really, honestly probably more of a scratch—but you thought you would’ve at least been invited to the party. Yet there you were, your posture slowly drooping as you sank into the leather sofa while your teammates gathered in the elevator to head up to the party. You had taken your phone out and opened the camera app, checking to make sure you hadn’t somehow triggered your invisibility, but, nope, you were very much there. The tears that fell were very much there.
-
“Alright, Tony, I’ll be there for Movie Night tonight, but you gotta go. I need to get back to my training duties.” It was then that Tony finally seemed to realize your presence, turning around with a surprised look on his face.
“Oh, hey, Y/N. You, um, you should come tonight too.” All of his charm was gone, the relaxed smile only hanging on by the tiniest lift of the corner of his mouth. So you did your best to reassure him with a small nod. The smile came back immediately. All was well; Tony Stark does indeed have a heart.
-
Later that night, as you sat alone on the three-person couch, you drew the blankets closer to you. The same movie you had watched last night was playing on the TV. The original plan had been to watch Jaws, but Sam was delighted to find the DVD box to Space Jam on the coffee table, insisting that he’d been wanting to watch it again and how it was such a coincidence it was already out. He wasn’t saying that last night when you asked if anyone wanted to watch it with you, but at least you weren’t watching it alone this time. You looked around at the small groups the Avengers had formed on the other couches, some of them even sitting on the floor—there wasn’t enough space, you guessed—before letting out a sigh. There were no party hats or festive noisemakers, but that was okay. That was okay because… A tap on your knee brought you back to the present moment. You looked down to find the outstretched arm of a familiar redhead, a bowl of popcorn in her hand.
There was no time for wallowing in self-pity. That was okay. You were okay.
---
The harsh sunlight woke you up in time for your thirtieth birthday. Or maybe it was the stiff and lumpy mattress that did it. Either way, you were hoping you’d be able to sleep through it. The rational side of you knew that wasn’t possible—what with being on the run from the US government and all—but one can always hope, right?
You’d stuck with Natasha during the Avengers’ split, pushing for the team to stay together even though you’d never really been part of the team. It wasn’t about you though; you’d seen the amazing things the Avengers could do when they were together. The world needed them.
Well, that line of thinking got you here, in a small cabin in the woods with all the Avengers who had followed Steve, Natasha joining the group later. Happy birthday to you. Although to be fair, it wasn’t like any of your past birthdays had been much better. Once your childish naivety had faded away (which probably took much longer than it should have), the day became something you dreaded, something you hoped each year you would forget about but never quite could. This time, though, you had a small plan. It was going to be different this year.
-
Your knees cracked as you stood, announcing to no one in particular that you were heading off to bed. Rather than heading straight down the hall to your room, though, you cut through the kitchen and grabbed a few things.
Your shoulders dropped slightly as you closed the door, and you allowed yourself to study the contents of your hands: a lighter, candle, and one of the leftover store-bought cupcakes from Steve’s birthday. The cupcakes weren’t great, but no one had the time, energy, or ingredients to make a cake, and, let’s be honest, most of the people here couldn’t bake anyways. Plus, this one had frosting in your favorite color, so you couldn’t complain, especially since it was more than you’d had for your birthday since you could remember.
The wooden bed frame creaked as you shifted to place the candle in the frosting and light it. For the first time that day, you were grateful the windows had no curtains, as they allowed you to see the stars that dotted the sky.
“Happy birthday,” you murmured to yourself, your eyes never leaving the constellations, instead darting around to watch in awe as more and more of the twinkling lights showed up the longer you cared to look.
Just as you tore your eyes away to blow out the candle, a knock rang out against the door. Were you guys spotted? Did you have to leave? You immediately ran to open the door, running through a list of things you’d have to pack the second you heard the order. You weren’t exactly surprised to see Nat standing outside your door, but you were surprised to see her holding a small rectangular box and a bottle of champagne.
“Hey, um, sorry to interrupt.” Your cheeks immediately heated up when you noticed her eyes dart to the cupcake still in your hand. You must’ve forgotten to put it down in your rush to open the door. At least the candle’s flame had gone out. “I get it if you don’t want to celebrate with anyone, but I figured you still deserve a treat on your special day.”
Natasha’s brows furrowed as your head tilted slightly.
“What special day?”
“Um, well, isn’t it your birthday?” You nodded, still not quite understanding what she was asking. Not to mention, the spy’s continued use of filler words surprised you. Sure, the two of you hadn’t interacted with each other much, but a lack of familiarity didn’t usually make her this uneasy. Were you really that invisible that she felt uncomfortable around you despite having known you for three years? But you couldn’t dwell on it with Nat speaking again, her voice pulling you out of your thoughts. “And, um, I noticed the only alcohol you drink is champagne, so… this is for you.”
You stepped back slightly as she nudged the objects towards you, but the spy misunderstood you, taking your surprise as an invitation to enter the room. Before you knew it, you were asking her to sit next to you on the mattress. It wasn’t like you had much of a choice, though; keeping her standing would be rude, and there were no chairs in your room. The two of you sat at least a foot apart, both of your spines straight and neither of you quite meeting the eyes of the other.
“So, um, do you want to open the present first or have your cupcake? Or we can open the champagne if you want.”
“This is a present?” You eyed the brown box she held in her hand. You weren’t sure what it could be. Based on its size, maybe a watch or a pocket knife? But Natasha laughed, simply pushing the box towards you.
“Of course it’s a present. Open it!” So you set the cupcake down on the unstable bedside table, making sure the dessert wouldn’t fall due to the furniture having one leg shorter than the rest. You cast one last glance at Natasha, who gave you a reassuring yet pointed nod, and with that, you lifted the cover.
It took everything in you to prevent the tears springing in your eyes from overflowing. You lifted the goggles with shaking hands. You had to touch them to make sure they were real, to make sure this wasn’t some sick and twisted dream your brain had forced on you to make you remember how disappointing your past birthdays had been.
“Do you like it?” The blonde asked you softly, her lower lip caught in between her teeth. Had you been thinking clearly, you would’ve been surprised at how apprehensive she sounded, how unsure she was. “I thought it could be something you might want to wear on missions. I noticed your other ones kept slipping down or breaking, and um…” Both of you became antsier as Natasha rambled on, you at how she was being more intimate with you than anyone ever had, and she at how she just couldn’t seem to stop talking despite the fact that, in her opinion, she was digging herself into an increasingly deeper hole. “It’s a lot more sturdy, and there are some other features that I think you’ll appreciate. I had Tony and Bruce make it for you… before, you know, this whole thing happened. And I brought it with me when I left.”
The frames reminded you much of the glasses you had first wanted as a kid, the ones your mother had looked past in favor of the plain black ones. They matched your combat suit, though, even having a small carving of your symbol on the side. You nodded as you choked down a sob, forcing yourself to meet the former assassin’s gaze to try to thank her properly.
“I love it, Natasha. Thank you so much. I- it’s… it’s amazing.” Nat dipped her head as if to nod, but you didn’t miss the way her cheeks flushed red or how a hint of her characteristic smirk appeared.
“Of course. It’s the least I could do.” Your eyes returned to the glasses in your hand. You’d try them out the second Natasha left. “So, cake now?”
“Yes, right, of course,” you nodded immediately, shaking your head at how you had managed to forget about the one thing you had planned to do for your birthday. Before you could reach for the frosted dessert, Natasha relit the candle and handed the cupcake to you as she began to sing “Happy Birthday.” When she reached the last note, you could hold it in no longer, and all the tears immediately began to flow.
“Oh my god, Y/N, I’m so sorry. Is my singing really that bad?” The redhead wasn’t sure whether to pull you closer or move away as she ran a hand through her hair, but she felt slightly comforted when she noticed you shaking your head.
“No, no, it’s just…” Natasha hesitantly began to rub your back in an effort to calm your sobs, “No one’s ever sang that for me before.”
“Ever?” She winced slightly at how her voice cracked, betraying her emotions to you despite her attempts to remain composed.
“Well, there used to be a video of it from my third birthday, but… I was three. So I don’t really remember it.” Natasha thought back to the many birthday celebrations the team had held, none of them being for you. The door to your room was always closed on your birthday. She’d always thought you had just gone out with friends and family, people outside of the Avengers, and who was she to get in the way of you and those you loved? But it had been the opposite. You had been hiding away in your room, and she hadn’t helped matters at all by waiting for three years to do anything. If only she’d gained the courage earlier, she could’ve helped ease your pain much sooner.
But all you saw through your tears was the way her head was cocked to the side, her spy training paying off as you couldn’t even begin to predict what she might be thinking. Your confusion slowed your tears somewhat, but that didn’t last for long as your mind shifted gears. You were ever the fool for sharing something so vulnerable with someone you barely knew.
So it was much to your surprise when Natasha finally reached her hand toward you, using her thumb to brush off the last few tears that made their way down your cheeks.
“You’ve never been invisible to me, Y/N. I see you. Always.” And with that, without responding, you turned away from her with a sniff to blow out the candle. “What’d you wish for?” the spy asked lightly, hoping the joke would help lift your mood.
“Nothing. This was more than I could’ve ever asked for.” Nat nodded slowly, keeping her eyes on you as she reached to take out the candle. Your eyes remained on the cupcake as if it would be ripped away from you if you turned away for a second. With her hand returned to your back, you began to dig into the cupcake, your eyes closing as you savored the taste. A cupcake just for you, on your birthday. Sure, it was a leftover cupcake, the frosting a bit too sweet and the cake itself dry and somewhat stale, but that didn’t matter. It was still the first in thirty years.
-
That night, you lay in bed with the stars overhead, a smile on your face as you thought about the day’s events, your best birthday ever.
And maybe it was naive of you to believe what Natasha had told you earlier that day—it wasn’t like the thought hadn’t crossed your mind several times in the few hours since she told you that—but then you thought about the champagne and the glasses she’d given you. You thought about the way she’d examined your apartment with you one last time before she brought you to the Avengers Tower, about the way she gave you an encouraging smile during training when you became exhausted with Bruce’s cluelessness, about the way she’d shared her popcorn on movie nights with you and only you.
And in the room next to you, Natasha thought about your confusion, your tears, and the way desperation, hope, and amazement filled your face when you looked at her right before you blew out the candle. It was then that she made a vow to herself, to show you that you’d never be invisible, especially not to her.
“Happy birthday, Y/N,” she whispered, “You are seen.”

It was the middle of the night, 2:57a.m., to be exact, when a loud crash shook you from the clutches of sleep. You sat up with a groan, rubbing your eyes to clear your vision enough to look at the clock on your nightstand. You swung your legs off the bed, eyes catching the shattered lamp on the ground. Fighting off the temptation to leave it on the ground for tomorrow, for fear that you might forget about it and slam your bare feet into the shards scattered around the floor, you slid your legs into some sweats and stood up.
You weren’t expecting, when you turned on the light, for something to move. When something darted around the corner you actually let out a high-pitched yelp, flying backwards and hitting your elbow hard off the corner of the nightstand. You felt tingling rush into the tips of your fingers as you tried desperately to comprehend what had just happened. Your breathing had already increased, and your heart was racing inside your chest. You took a hesitant step forward.
Despite being alone in the apartment, you flushed beet red in embarrassment when you found the creature you’d been so terrified of. The orange tabby cat stared up at you with wide eyes, letting out a quiet mew. Immediately your heart softened, its beat slowing down to a normal pace. When the cat made to step toward you, though, you immediately noticed the limp. Your eyebrows furrowed and you knelt down, letting it come to you. You reached out for its front leg, and it let you take it into your hand.
“Oh, sweet baby,” you muttered softly, wiping a bit of blood out of its fur with your thumb. “Come on. I think I have a first aid kit in the bathroom.”
It surely didn’t understand what you said, but it followed you when you stood up. It limped into the bathroom behind you, settling once it reached the tile floor. You reached into the cupboard under the sink and pulled out the red case, propping it up on the countertop and opening it up. Quickly, you located the roll of bandages and the scissors that came with it. You pulled it out and got some wet paper towels. Once more you knelt down on the ground next to the tabby.
A black collar around its neck caught your attention. You reached out for the silver tag that hung from it and spoke aloud. “Goose. Well, Goose, there’s no phone number here for your owner. Guess I’ll have to fix you up and trust you can find your own way home, huh?”
He meowed in response.
You continued to wrap up his leg. When you finally finished, you tucked the first aid kit away again. You clicked your tongue a couple times in an attempt to get him to follow you again. The both of you headed toward the kitchen, where you rummaged through the fridge for the leftover chicken from dinner the night before last. You pulled some out and set it in a small dish on the floor, a sort of apology for your lamp having done such damage to the poor animal’s leg. He helped himself quickly. Meanwhile, you dug through one of your drawers.
You popped the cap off a pen and cut a small strip of paper, struggling to keep your writing small enough to fit.
There was no number on the collar, so I opted for this. Goose found his way into my apartment and had an unfortunate mishap. I patched him up and gave him a treat. I hope that’s okay. He should be alright.
Hope he feels better soon.
You rolled the note around the tabby’s collar and taped it in place. He’d finished his treat by now, so you led him back to the apartment door. When you opened it, he cast one glance back at you, eyes shining as if in gratitude, then scurried down the hall. Just as he turned out of sight, though, someone else moved into your peripheral vision. You could have scoffed when you saw who had wandered into the hallway. She spoke before you could close the door.
“Isn’t it past your bedtime?”
“Fuck off, Danvers.”
“Captain Danvers,” she hummed, a wide smirk on her face as she twirled her keys around her finger.
“In your dreams,” you scoffed. “And next time you’re using your stripes to get random women in bed, be a little quieter, would you? Some of us around here have self-respect.”
You closed the door before she could respond to that.
You and Carol Danvers had hated each other for as long as you’d lived there. The two of you were like hot and cold, or night and day. She liked loud music and late nights whereas you liked a nice book and an early night. You were quiet and soft-spoken, and Carol was a bully. In fact, she was your bully. You’d never endured such teasing and taunting from anyone else before. It wasn’t her harsh words that got to you, though. In fact, you weren’t entirely sure what it was that got to you. Maybe it was her arrogance, or maybe it was her ignorance for anyone around her. It didn’t matter.
Carol Danvers brought out a side of yourself that you didn’t know existed. You’d only have to hear a single word fall from her lips or see a glimpse of her from the corner of your eye, and instantly any semblance of a good mood would dissipate and fade into annoyance. The hatred you held for her made your blood boil in your veins at the mere sight of her stupid, cocky smirk. You sometimes wished you could just reach out and slap that stupid smirk off her stupid face.
You pushed the blonde from your mind, heading back to bed. Hopefully, the coming day would be one that didn’t involve the blonde captain.
*
It was three days later that a quiet meow caught your attention. It tore your gaze from the TV, and you glanced toward the source of the sound. The face that was watching you immediately brought a smile to your face. You pat the couch beside you and the tabby jumped up, settling onto the blanket. You ran your hand across his head, watching his eyes close in content. You were about to turn your gaze back to the TV when you noticed the paper around his collar. It wasn’t the same one you put there. You reached out for it and removed it, careful not to rip it, and unrolled it. You flicked on the lamp.
Sorry about him. He wanders around the building. This isn’t the first time he’s gotten into someone’s room. If you fed him, he’ll probably come back to you (which I don’t mind, so long as you don’t mind that he’ll keep coming back). That’s how I know you’ll get this. So, thank you for patching him up. The vet would’ve cost more. You were right. He was just fine.
Rolled up with it was a twenty-dollar bill. You chuckled, immediately standing up off the couch. You pulled a small treat out of the fridge as you passed it, Goose trotting into the kitchen at the sight. You handed it to him and he took it happily, chowing down as you stood up straight again and continuing on your journey toward the notepad on the counter. Once again you ripped a small piece of paper out of it, ripping the cap of the pen off with your teeth and holding it there as you brought the pen down to meet the paper.
It seems so. You were right. He came back. He’s a sweet boy. I truly enjoy his visits. I don’t get many of them, so he’s welcome here whenever he pleases. And I don’t need this. Keep it.
You knelt down on the ground to Goose once again. He sat still for you as you wrapped the bill around his collar, wrapped the note around it, and then taped them both in place. Once more, you led him back to the apartment door, opened it up for him, and let him into the hallway. He rubbed his head against your calf once more before dashing out of sight. You shut the door behind him.
*
You huffed as you stormed into the lobby of the apartment building. Work had not treated you well that day. All you wanted was to head upstairs, put on your coziest pyjamas, order takeout, cuddle into the couch, and watch a movie or two. It was all you needed to wash away the horrible day and ease the stress that was weighing so heavily on your chest. You only wanted to pick up your mail before you did, but apparently, the universe had other ideas.
“Looking for some mail from your mommy?”
Danvers was the last person you wanted to deal with today. You didn't even bother to grumble a response to your neighbour, who was still in uniform as she stepped up beside you and unlocked her own mailbox. You were going to step away without a single word, but once more, you didn’t get your wish. Carol snickered at something, making you slam your box shut with far more force than necessary.
“What, pray tell, is so fucking funny?” You snapped.
“Oh, nothing. Nothing. Nice keychain.”
The keychain was a souvenir one you’d gotten from your trip to Disney with your family a few years ago. It was a picture of you and your brothers all wearing Mickey Mouse ears and sticking your tongues out at the camera. If anyone else had said the words, you would have blushed and thanked them. When Carol said the words, you shoved the keys in your pocket and shot a glare so harsh that it would have killed if it could have.
“You’re a dick, Danvers.”
“Captain Danvers,” she corrected once more.
“Look, this whole army pilot thing might work on those girls you pick up from god knows where, but I’ve met you,” you sneered. “You use this uniform for detestable things, Danvers. It’s disgusting.”
You stormed away.
When you unlocked your door and stepped into your apartment, however, you found that you wouldn’t need pyjamas or takeout or movies to make you feel better. Your new best friend was sitting on your couch as if he had been waiting for you to arrive home. You dropped your bag at the door and moved to sit with him immediately. After stroking his head absentmindedly for a bit, you noticed the new note.
Take it. Please? Come on, you’re going to make Goose sad if you don’t. You’re going to make me sad if you don’t.
Attached with the note, again, was that same twenty-dollar bill. You rolled your eyes as you moved into the kitchen once more, handing Goose a few of the cat treats you’d bought for him. He accepted them happily as, for the third time, you prepared to write a note for Goose’s mystery owner. You didn’t even bother to sit down, hunching over the counter in a way that your back probably wouldn’t have thanked you for. You scribbled on the paper.
I’m sure Goose won’t mind at all. As for you? Well, I don’t really know you, do I? Just keep the damn money, will you? You know, Goose is going to gain a few pounds if you keep sending him back here.
Sincerely, Goose’s new best friend
After a few pats to the head, you sent Goose off with that. He was back later that day.
Goose’s best friend,
Goose does mind. He wants you to keep it. Please? Besides, if we keep attaching it with scotch tape to a wandering cat, it’s going to get lost. You wouldn’t want that, now, would you? I sure wouldn’t. As for the treats, I’ll make sure to walk him a bit more. Wouldn’t want to lose my new favourite pen pal over a couple extra pounds on the cat.
- Goose’s mom
This time, there were two twenties attached. You chuckled at that. Goose was gobbling down his treat as you wrote.
Goose’s mom,
I think that’d be quite a sight to see, you walking Goose down the street. Guess if I ever see Goose leashed and with some random woman on the street, I’ll know what you look like.
- Goose’s best friend
P.S. Just donate the money. Seriously.
As if it were habit by now, you reattached the bills, added your note, and sent the tabby out the door once again. You headed back to what you’d been doing.
It wasn’t long before the next reply.
Goose’s best friend,
Here, I’ll help you build the image. I’m 23, blonde, and about 5’6”. I’m in the army, so I’d probably still be in uniform after work. Oh, and Goose’s leash is blue, and he has a grey harness for walking.
- Goose’s mom
P.S. I split the $40 between the humane society and the local shelter
You once more had to laugh at the stranger. Of course, you immediately moved to respond. As much as you didn’t want to kick Goose out, you wanted her to get your answer as soon as possible. You grabbed your notepad.
Goose’s mom,
You sound cute.
- Goose’s mom’s best friend
It was a short note this time. You were having fun, though, and you wanted to tease your new friend a little. You attached the note to Goose and let him run off.
Once more, Goose returned with a new reply.
Best friend,
You didn’t give me anything in response. I’m offended.
- Goose’s mom’s best friend’s best friend
You couldn’t help but roll your eyes at the way she’d signed her newest note. A pang of confidence hit your chest. You scribbled on the note.
Goose’s cute mom,
Let’s go for coffee then. 2B. I’m free when you are.

You regretted sending that last note. You’d never gone more than 12 hours without communicating with the mystery note sender. You’d grown quite fond of the little pieces of communication you’d exchanged with her. It was actually the highlight of your day, on most days. Since sending that last one, though, you’d yet to hear back from her. It’d been four days now. You were quite upset about it, and decided the best way to fix that was some loud music. Maybe it’d piss Danvers off as much as she pissed you off.
When there was a loud knock on the door, you immediately assumed that you’d sure pissed someone off. Of course, they’d complain about you and not her. Everyone loved Carol fucking Danvers. You wished you could whirl the door open and shout at whoever was on the other side, but knew yourself better than that. You’d probably open it up and apologize, then turn the volume down and wallow in your misery to the sound of softer music.
That is, if it were anyone but Danvers.
“What? Just now realizing how damn annoying it is to hear loud music blaring from the apartment directly below yours?” You rolled your eyes. “Fuck off, Danvers.”
You went to slam the door, but she stuck her hand in. It must’ve been a little harsher than you meant to, because she shook her fingers out when she retracted them. You didn’t apologize, because you didn’t even feel bad. She deserved it after giving you two years of hell having to live in the apartment below her. You’d not have been surprised if one day she invited an elephant into her room just so she could make as much noise in your apartment as possible.
As you were about to make another snarky remark, though, you noticed something. That cocky glint that was usually shining in her brown eyes was missing. She wasn’t even meeting your eyes. Her gaze was cast to the door beside your head, locked to the bronze numbers that were screwed into it. You raised a single eyebrow, waving your hand in front of her face to get her attention. She blinked as if coming out of a trace, looking back to you.
“What do you want, Danvers?” You snapped when she wouldn’t speak.
She didn’t answer. She only held out a small piece of paper. You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion, but took it from her. The handwriting was one you’d seen so many times.
Goose’s best friend,
Coffee it is. But I’m paying. I still owe you.
