taking a lot of inspo from val this morning, like every morning, but this one is profound i promise

you know what's wild to me?

Val was not thrilled about being cast for Top Gun in '86. in his memoir he scribes that he wasn't excited about the script and that at base level, Iceman was a boring character--lackluster, wildly undefined, and shallow. the script did nothing for him, really.

between Tony and Tom and his career picking up steam he decided to pursue the role. some Val magic later, Iceman swiftly became a fan favorite and one of the film's pillar characters. the bleached tips, the immaculate waist, shaken all the way down to his icy confidence and smooth talking lines--it's argued that Iceman has perhaps even more of a defined backstory than Pete, even if we don't get to see much of it.

and now looking back, with hindsight being what it is, Val recognizes that Top Gun changed his life. he probably wouldn't be who he is without that script. career definitely wouldn't be what it is, that's for sure.

he looks back at TG like an old friend, with fondness, and as he has always stated when it comes to his roles, he hasn't lost Iceman. Kazansky is still a part of him, and he's still a part of that character, even three decades later.

this really sparks wild flame in me because so often life isn't what we want it to be in the heat of the moment.

every day we wake up and do things we don't want to do, work jobs and pursue goals that don't fit the scope of our visionary selves. and yet we do them, and give them our all (at least I do) because in the moment, this is our life, and it deserves the best we have to give.

Val is a living picture of muscling through the things we think we don't want, only discovering later that those very things are some of our most precious memories. that without that season, we probably wouldn't be who we are. the moments we don't like prepare us for the ones we do and slingshot us into better versions of ourselves, if we learn the right lessons.

stick to it, fam. do the Val thing. work the Val magic. if it works for him, i bet it'll work for us, too.

THE KINDNESS OF THE BUFFALO

Before Geats ends I want to dedicate a few words to the best Geats character, the one that made me enjoy a year of a KR series again.

I have written before how he made me feel on edge through the series, how is not the type of character that I use to like or love. So Buffa/Michinaga Azuma was a big surprise for me. XD

I believe he best embodies the meaning of being a true kamen rider at it's core. And from all the cast, he had the most development throught the series.

From being a poor construction worker and nobody to antagonist to a hero. In every stages I felt alittle bit of kindness even in his worst acts, that small amount was enough for me to believe in him, believe that he was a good guy, that he was pushed between wall and sword, that he was bounded by circumstances. And Buffa totally delivered.

I want to believe that every kid fan of his was totally happy watching him being a hero in this last Geats arc. You know... when Michinaga said sorry to Keiwa and Keiwa said sorry to him too... my inner child was so happy, it was like: "Look! they are finally friends, there will be no more hate" X,D Because being a Buffa fan throught the series felt like being bullied by his haters: You can't like him, he's a killer, he's not a good guy, not a hero, you have made that up, he's not repent for his actions, etc, etc.Just imagine... being a kid, fan of Buffa... wanting to play with other kids... but those kids say that you can't like him, that he's evil. (hope no kid were bullied like this, because is an horrible feeling TTATT).

I believe that one of the magic that tokusatsu shows have is make you feel like a child again, so really this shows dont need to be the best in writing or effects. If it made you feel like a child again, if it left you with some values... even if execution was bad, it dont matter.

Geats was not the best KR series... writing was bad... plot points were forgot... plot holes everywhere... wasted characters (usually Yuya Takashi series X,D)... but was fun, was fun to wonder every weekend if Michinaga was good, what he wanted to do, where he will going to end, what was he thinking and ultimately was fun watching him doing good, trying to save people, saying he believes in Geats (I literally cried by that statement, truly character development at his finest). Without him I couldn't have enjoyed Geats. He was, for me, the heart of this series. Through him I enjoyed the other cast and it's story.

Buffa is the live image that: If you have kindness in your heart no matter circumstances, no matter how hard life is, you can be a good person, you can fight back destiny and win.

Thank you Buffa/Michinaga Azuma for don't let me down and deliver. Kazuto Mokudai, thank you for play him. 19yrs baby did an awesome job. TTvTT

Friendly reminder that Percy jackson - our beloved silly adorable seaweed brain - is absolutely terrifying. When he’s angry, when he’s scared, when he’s on edge - he’s not warm and fuzzy.

No other character gets that reaction from people. Jason (the sweetie) is perceived as calm and in control, nico (our favorite self-outcasted outcast) is perceived as solemn and creepy, reyna (girlboss queen slay) is perceived as confident and assertive, and annabeth (our girl) is perceived as fierce, clever, and formidable. They are all intimidating to an extent.

But not like Percy. No. Becasue even when he’s at ease, he’s described as wild and disobedient. And when he’s not at ease, even if just little bit, he’s perceived as powerful, dangerous, and scary. Someone who NOBODY wants to mess with. Nobody even questions his power. One look from him has literal gangs running the other way. One look from him has Leo so scared that he’s literally shaking, and feeling the same innate fright and alarm that he does when jason summons an ear-piercing, earth-shaking, deadly bolt of lighting.

like… HELLO??? can we all just sit on that for a moment?? good lord

One angry look from percy has people thinking one thing: Run.

Percy is, canonically, the character that people find the most frightening and intimidating.

And unless he’s in a good mood - which you better hope he is - the reality is that most of us would be completely terrified of him if we met him.
