How do you perspective the snoot??
(I try to simplify Donnies into a pyramid, but it's so hard-)
Tumblr media
I hope it’s alright if I took a peek at your style to help me get a better idea and if it’s not I’ll delete this (love your style btw!!) but this is how I personally would break it down. Having a little bit of basic 3D modeling experience helps me to sometimes mentally break down angles and perspective.
I still struggle with it a lot and practice is the other huge key to success (unfortunately lol)
Hope this helps!

jack grealish
u and jack get along so well
when u first met him, u initially thought otherwise
he likes to party
u like to party
it's just a match made in heaven basically
sometimes jack's brummie accent is a little bit hard to understand
but ur grateful that even when u tell him that
he would simplify his accent to make it more understandable for u
besides checking on his gf hours before the game
he'd check on u as well
he'd always ask if ur feeling comfortable
always offers bottles of water bc they were given a huge carton to deal w
this man is such a sweetheart
phil foden
i wanna say foden is ur best friend in the 3lions
but i dont wanna jinx it
u and ronnie actually get along so well
and u were one of the first people (besides all the man city guys) to meet his newest daughter, true
"true foden... that's what she is" u once told phil w tears in ur eyes
damn u and ur baby fever
when phil scored his first world cup goal
u would be lying if there weren't tears in ur eyes
this man...
he loves his country so much
and u know exactly how much
so for him to be able to score that goal
was such a magical experience
not only for phil, but for u as well

i honestly think it'd be really fun to be friends w john
bukayo saka
trust me when i say
u were one of the first people that b approached
for saka's spelling school
he told you to spell 'veterinarian' and u aced it
trent, jack and emile were nothing short of SHELLSHOCKED when u spelled it correctly
"i can't believe u aced that!"
"do u guys really think i'm that stupid?!"
and jack goes "YES! that's why ur friends w us!"
to u, b is hilarious
u love when he laughs
he just has that serotonin-inducing laugh
harry kane

there is absolutely nothing else i can say
jude bellingham
hailing from birmingham
i could only assume this guy's got a lot of town inside jokes
u don't understand ANY of them
him and trent are the duo around here
so sometimes whenever he'd invite u for dinner
he'd invite trent along so it doesn't feel like a date
although u could easily go on a date w him and he wouldn't say anything
u and jude would have some nights where u would switch snacks w each other
u got to try jude's childhood snacks and he got to try ur childhood snacks
u and jude just loved having bonding sessions
it's a staple everytime u both hang out together
declan rice
RICE RICE BABY~~
u would be lying if u told me that song isn't stuck in ur head 24/7
but trust me, it'd be stuck in dec's head too
it would be u, mason and declan running around hopping bars all the time
to the point where some of the guys would get a little jealous bc of how close u, mase and dec got throughout the world cup
best believe rice rice baby is playing in the background everytime the three of u hang out together
"this is our song now" dec once said
dec loves to laugh
and u love making him laugh
match made in heaven
mason mount
u spend so much time w dec that sometimes mase gets a little bit jealous
so now u spend 3 days w mase
3 days w dec
and 1 day w the both of them
mason's a fast food enthusiast
and since u are always travelling w the england squad
u and mase would explore the cities and look for fast food outlets on his off days
mase would usually scarf down a burger
u also would if ur feeling extra hungry
why are u guys just the ultimate duo ever! i'm jealous...
emile smith rowe
i just know emile's personality is somewhat similar to mase
they vibe so damn well together
but if u were there, emile would go 10x crazier that he usually is
leos are supposed to be very difficult people
but emile is the most outgoing, easy person to be around and be friends w
he'd say yes to literally anything
trust when i say anything
i mean anything
he's the type to invite u to a game at the emirates
and then when he sees u run up to him after the game
he'd act all surprised
"omg you came?!! you love me so much!"
"omg shut up, you literally asked me to come!"
i love this guy sm

Is it possible to be aro without being ace?
The extremely short version: yes, absolutely! You may want to look up the term 'aroallo'.
This post got huge (nearly a thousand words), so below the cut it goes for A Lot of detail!
With the disclaimer that I'm aro-ace personally and so this isn't my personal experience, yes, absolutely! The split attraction model (first proposed in 1879, later repopularised exactly a century later in 1979, with the aspec community in particular embracing it from around 2005 when the term 'aromantic' was first used, and coining the term 'split attraction model' specifically around 2015) says that romantic orientation and sexual orientation don't necessarily have to be the same thing.
A lot of the times, these orientations are congruent - someone who's panromantic pansexual, for instance, who might just describe themself as pan (or pansexual without differentiating the panromantic part), or aromantic asexual. They can also diverge - someone might be, say, homoromantic bisexual (romantically attracted only to the same gender, sexually attracted to two or more genders).
The aspec community does use it more in particular, I've noticed, although jury is still out on whether aspec people genuinely do have a higher instance of split attraction, or whether there are sociocultural reasons behind it (the term originating largely in the community).
So, some definitions! Aromantic = not romantically attracted to anyone. Arospec = on the aromantic spectrum, including aromantic, demiromantic, etc. Often uses qualifiers to describe who the attraction is towards. Alloromantic = romantically attracted to people. Asexual = not sexually attracted to anyone. Acespec = on the asexual spectrum, including asexual, demisexual, etc. Allosexual = sexually attracted to people. Aspec = pertaining to the arospectrum and acespectrum. Allospec = pertaining to alloromantic and allosexual people.
Then you can basically mix and match to describe your experience! Let's say you're romantically attracted potentially to all genders, but only after a strong emotional connection develops, and not sexually attracted to anyone. You could describe yourself as demi-panromantic asexual, or, more simplified, as arospec ace. Or, let's say you're a man romantically attracted to men, and sexually attracted to men and androgynous people. You could describe yourself as homoromantic bisexual. Or, if that same dude wasn't sexually attracted to anyone, he'd be homoromantic asexual, and could use 'alloace' as shorthand - alloromantic, asexual.
And yes, that absolutely includes being not romantically attracted to anyone (aromantic) and sexually attracted to others (allosexual, which can be described further - homosexual, bisexual, et cetera). As an umbrella term, you could use the term 'aroallo', which does seem to be the most popular term to use, both as a Tumblr tag and as a subreddit (r/aroallo). Probably on other socials but I don't use those XD;;
(Aro-ace specifically seems to use both 'aro-ace' and 'aroace'. I use the former. AFAIK, aroallo and alloace mostly use the non-hyphen version, but again, not much personal experience there.)
An important disclaimer - orientation is messy and imprecise. We use language to try to give some sort of definition, but it's not a black and white thing. People may describe themselves with apparently contradictory terms, like ace lesbian or the like. This is largely due to those spectra (the arospectrum and acespectrum) being huge. There are so many ways to be on those spectra! A small selection of acespec identities include not just asexual, demisexual, and grey asexual, but aceflux (sexual orientation fluctuates, either solely within the ace spectrum or between no and some/a lot of attraction), aegosexual (someone who experiences a disconnect between themselves and the target of arousal, ie. someone who experiences sexual attraction towards others but without themself being in the picture; I've found a lot of people in fandom fit aego, where they're sexually attracted to, say, two fictional characters but they never insert themself into the scene), cupiosexual (asexual or acespec, but still desires sexual actions despite not feeling sexual attraction towards a partner; someone who is otherwise ace but enjoys sex with their partner as a method of being close may describe themself as cupiosexual), etc.
There are also various views towards orientation, sort of along two spectra. One of these spectra is about how you view sex in general, between positive (sex, conceptually and in general, is a good thing!), neutral (sex sure is a thing that exists!), and negative (sex, conceptually and in general, is a bad thing!). Then, there's how you feel about it for yourself - sex-favourable means that even if you're ace, you may enjoy sex for assorted reasons (see: cupio), sex-indifferent means, eh, you don't have strong feelings about having it yourself, and sex-averse is "no thank you not for me!!", with sex-repulsed being considered a stronger variation ("sex is Ew and I don't want to even think about it") that can fit on either spectrum. I would consider myself sex-positive (leaning more towards neutral, I don't think it's a negative thing but it can be used in that way, like any sort of relationship) and sex-averse (no thank you not for me!!). A sex-positive and -averse person may still enjoy erotica; a sex-neutral and -favourable person may enjoy being intimate with a partner even if sex itself is just kind of. A thing.
This has got extremely long-winded, but the short version is: yes, it is absolutely possible to be aro without being ace. The split attraction describes that precisely, and precise definitions of attraction are imprecise and fiddly and can only really give an approximation of individual experiences, and all of these terms are optional anyway - but yes, very possible, often called aroallo.
I hope this helps! :D

How do you come up with your compositions? They are so cool I wanna know if you have any huge inspirations :-) your art is so lovely
Hiiiiiii! Awww thanks for the appreciation!
I'm actually working on a more comprehensive art tutorial rn (bc someone asked here earlier), that would include composition, but I'll do a shorter answer first for u bc you're asking sth. more specific ?( hope it's okey (❁´◡`❁))
(Oh and also I've seen ur req! don't worry, I'm doing that as well, it's just there's still some before yours( ´・・)ノ(._.`))
Um and when the long tutorial is out, feel free to check that out ~
On Composition:
Goal
For me the goal of my illustration r Storytelling n full on Emotional experience.
(It's something I've been trying to achieve but cannot guarantee I hit it all the time, sometimes bc of my habit I'll lost myself during the process and looking back find out I miss something important, so the following is the best theories I could provide. Most of improvement r still in daily practice(●'◡'●))
To paint with beautiful compostion, you'll first have a solid story in mind, it can be simplified into " who when where n what", writing them down on a note n stick it near by would help.
And as to emotional experience, is something I can't get hold of all the time... music might help I guess? I have headcanon playlists for every chatacter or ship I wanna paint, and extract emotions from them everyday.
But there's some practical methods too.
Methods
I've worked storyboard n director for 2 years in the past, even though I'm not proud of the projects I worked on, some knowledge might still be useful.
It's mostly 2 methods: Silhouette & Movement
Well for silhouettes there's already bunch of books discussing this, one of my favs is Framed Ink, I'm sure u can find a pdf somewhere on the net.
Tumblr media
(I find this photo on the internet bc mine is not around)
Basically it's that, think about the objects within your image, by using shadows n their original colors, you can split it into interesting shapes. This will visually elevate the overall feeling of composition.
Also, there's a cheat build in humem's understanding of an image.
Tumblr media
basically this, putting important object on the 1/3 points of an image is the fastest cheat.
Also, contrast your silhouette. If you're painting sth that has no background, try giving your silhouette a constrasted design.
Tumblr media
(like in this one, the right side is smooth but I'm putting lots of variation on the left.)
For movement, think about your image as a shot taken when your characters r doing sth.
They would each have a direction to move to, and that forms their movement. Your job here is to arrange them into logical or emotional lines.
If it's a series of work, u can plan out the movement toward the same direction.
Tumblr media
(the only time you're seeing their car facing left is when they stopped, I was trying to say that their trip kinda ends here)
Also for manga, comic n movie, make sure your important information is within safe area.
Tumblr media
(the area within dotted lines is the safe area, u want your character's expression to be mostly within it. if it's like extreme close-up, the certain area u want to emphasize should be within it.)
I have some examples for these two theories.
Tumblr media
First let's analyze this screenshot of one of Kurosawa's film, Seven Samurais.
Tumblr media
The story here is that these guys r about to fight, possibly some big conflict. There silhouette can be sumed up like this, within the orange line.
Tumblr media
We see this guy sticking out from this shape, implying he might be the head of this crowd.
Tumblr media
Movement wise, their spears n heads face the same direction, telling u that the enemy will come from that side. Even this is a still frame, the movement is implied perfectly.
Another sample from Synecdoche,NY by Charlie Kauffman
Tumblr media
This is a minimalist way of conveying emotion, u only see one main character here, and hardly any movement. Why is it so powerful?
Tumblr media
Our main character, Caden, is in the almost center of this shot. He has a clear n simple shape. You don't normally put your main object in the center, so we'd assume he's very important.
Tumblr media
Then there's this repeated notes in the background. When something is repeated a lot, it giver u an impression of pressure. Especially when he's surrounded by them, and they take more space within the frame than he does.
Tumblr media
Also, this is a down shot, the camera is pointing down and behind him. You'll feel your character being watched or at his lower point of life when u do that.
Inspirations:
Movies mostly, and traditional artists.
Back when I was in film school I watched a bunch of movies n that slowly became a habit, movies r very good sources for ideas.
Even if you're not having enough time, watching reviews n analysis would also help, (but I'd suggest u try to consume the films not listening to critics to get a unique experience.)
Some of my favourite directors are:
Kelly Reichardt (First Cow)
Apichatpong (Tropical Malady, Memoria);
Charlie Kaufman (Synecdoche NY, Adaptaion);
Satoshi Kon (Paprika, Perfect Blue);
Kurosawa Akira (Yume, Kagemusha );
Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz );
Kusturica (Black Cat White Cat, Underground 1995);
Carol Reed (The Third Man)
Errrm I hope it's helpful? (❁´◡`❁) The next tutorial is gonna be even longer.

transformers are cool
and I'm not even talking about the robots in disguise guys. I'm talking about the electrical component. These things:
Tumblr media
(amazingly despite having a desk covered in electronics it took me a minute to find one!)
They're in everything. they make AC power so... powerful, for lack of a better term. And they're fucking awesome magic.
So here's the about why we need them (under the readmore)
Quick initial bit of info you need to know: Electrical power flowing through a conductor has a few primary related characteristics: voltage, current, resistance, and power. Voltage is "how much push" the electricity has. Current is kinda like "how fast it's moving", resistance is, well, resistance: it's how much the wire resists having electricity go down it. Voltage and current combine to form power. There's the same amount of power in a high-current low-voltage flow of electricity as a low-current high-voltage one. (think of it like a fast-flowing water pipe vs a slow-flowing creek. Because the slow one has much more volume, it manages to move the same total amount of water)
So when you put electricity down a wire, you are also heating up the wire, because the wire is not a perfect conductor (unless it's a superconductor, but at the moment that requires cooling it a lot, so we don't do that outside of like MRI machines and cool physics experiments). Most of the time we don't want Hot Wires, we just want electricity to get places. (unless we're making a toaster or an oven, then we DO want hot wires). But it would be a huge waste if we had a powerplant and most of the electricity never got to all the things we need to power because we were just making the wires hot. But there's a trick to avoid this:
So the amount of energy lost to heating is proportional to the current going through it. (It's actually the current squared times the resistance). But the important thing is that low-current = low loss, high-current=high loss. So we just need low-current power lines!
But wait, don't we need current? you need a bunch of current to run things like dryers and electric ovens and so on.
yes. But we don't need to TRANSFER the power using high current. Because here's the thing, voltage and current are related. Thanks to Georg Ohm (no relation to the spiders guy) and Ohm's Law (current = voltage divided by resistance) (plus a side of Kirchhoff’s Voltage Law), you can take a given current and lower the current by increasing the voltage. So we just need high-voltage power lines, and they'll be low-current, and therefore low-heating-loss. Then once it's in your house, we turn it back into low-voltage high-current, and now it's Powerful and can run your dryer or oven or whatever.
But how do we change the voltage of a current? TRANSFORMERS, THAT'S HOW!
So the basic idea of an electrical coil is that as the current in the coil changes, this generates a magnetic flux. To simplify: changing current + coils = magnetism. This is handy when we're building motors, because this is how they work: It's basically a magnet pulling itself around and around in circles.
But wait how do we get changing current? isn't the current coming down the line from the power station constant?
Nope! It's AC current: Alternating Current. This means that instead of a continuous current coming down one wire and going out the other, it's constantly changing direction, 60 times a second. It's a sine wave, it goes positive, then negative, and repeats. So the current is always changing, and if you run it through a coil, it'll create a magnetic field one way, then the other, over and over.
Well that's nifty and all but how do we use that for anything?
So it turns out the whole idea of "a changing current in a coil causes magnetism" is reversible, it works both ways. A changing magnetic field causes a change in current in a coil.
So what if we took our coil and put it next to another coil? Maybe with something in between (a "core") that conducts the magnetism, like a piece of metal?
Well then you put a changing current in one side, and you get a changing current out of the other side! Nifty. But also useless. You got out pretty much the same thing you got in, minus some losses due to heating and magnetism and such. (It's not actually useless: this is an isolation transformer, and can be used for safety reasons)
But here's the next trick: Conservation of energy. You put in a given amount of power, you create a given amount of magnetism, and that magnetism gives you a given amount of power back. Other than some small losses, it all balances. It has to, or the universe wouldn't work, and would explode.
But you what I'm describing here is a perfectly symmetric transformer. What if you had more windings in your coil on one side than you did on the other side?
Well, it turns out that the voltage you get out of a transformer is related to how many turns you have in the output side compared to the input side. So if your input side has 200 turns of a coil, and your output side has 100 turns of a coil, your output voltage will be twice the input voltage. And you can swap this around to make the output voltage half the input voltage.
The current will of course adjust to match. Twice the voltage means half the current.
And now you see how we can make powerlines work. We have our powerplant generate high voltages, then run those super-high voltages (in the range of 100,000-800,000 volts) down huge raised power lines. When they get to an area that needs power, we have a bunch of transformers that lower them to a distribution voltage (somewhere in the range of 5,000-10,000 volts), which runs to a transformer on a pole near your house, which lowers it to the standard 120 volts (in the US. most of the rest of the world uses 240 volts), which is provided to all the outlets in your house.
Then you plug a power supply into those outlets, to run your computer or power your phone, or whatever. Guess what's in there? Another transformer! It lowers the voltage even further, so it'll be 12 or 5 or whatever the device needs. (It also rectifies it into DC power, because computers run on DC, not AC. But it does this after changing the voltage, because it's easier to change the voltage of AC power than DC power).
So it's transformers all the way down.
FINAL BIT OF NEATNESS WITH TRANSFORMERS:
So remember how I mentioned that they're two coils, around a core of metal? Well... you don't need the metal, technically. It helps, yes, and makes them more efficient, but you could just use air. Magnetism can go through air or plastic or all kinds of stuff without being stopped. It's less efficient, sure, but it works.
So what if we then took advantage of this? We build two half-transformers. One in a device that plugs into the wall, and another into some device that needs power, like... a phone! Normally these coils will do nothing, because they're not a complete transformer, as the other coil is nowhere near it.
But if you put the coils near each other, they'll start interacting magnetically. They become a transformer. Power is transferred from one side to the other, through the magnetic field, and now your phone can wirelessly charge without wires!
(It's actually a little more complicated than this: To avoid wasting power by running the charger-half all the time, uselessly making magnetic fields that do nothing, it periodically "pings" to see if there's a phone nearby, and measuring if the current is changed by something being charged by the short duration charge-attempt. If not, it goes to sleep and waits to try it again later, if it sees a drain in the power, it ramps up to a higher intensity to start charging the phone)

Gal Pals + Your First Howl
A POV transformation thing: your closest friends are werewolves, they get you in on it, and they sit with you through the process of your first transformation! @bluebearial (the BESTIE) collaborated on this, basically just passing the draft back and forth; her writing is in purple and mine is in blue. PLEASE go check her out she's a fantastic artist and has more lovely and intimate writing like this on her blog
CW: they're gay werewolves. these girls are doing lots of petting and sniffing
Gloomy. That’s the one word that could describe this night. The sky is a deep grey. Thunder, far in the distance, still makes itself known in the form of a near-constant rumble. Despite the blanket of cloud that covers the sky, a pale glow could still be seen. Lycanthropy, as you had recently found out, doesn’t require direct moonlight to take effect. Just the presence of it is enough to make you itch. For new instincts to crop up. You wish you knew about this going in, but thankfully, your friends are a lot more experienced than you. Even better, they’re here to ride it out with you.
“I know the picture of like, breaking into a clearing in the woods, and having the moon behind you and everything when you transform for the first time is really cool,” trills Fetch, and even through the buzz of excitement and anxiety, you know where this is going. You’ve known it since English Lit. in college; it’s had a point-by-point for everything since even before then. “But not a ton of people actually get to do that! It’s like, part of the lycanthrope experience that gets sanitized and simplified a lot for wider audiences. Sooooo many movies do this bit, and the weather’s always perfect, and everything, but like… would you even wanna wander around in the woods on a normal day? Let alone a vulnerable one like this?”
“I dunno…~” lilts Plum, your other friend, from her place on the couch, “Days like this’re perfect for just, skulkin’ around in the dark. Scarin’ people. Like, rahh~” She even puts her paws up, showing off those amethyst-colored claws. As you watch her, you can’t help but wonder if this whole ‘lycanthropy’ thing has more of a mental effect than you’d first realized. As recently as this afternoon, she was pretty chipper! Happy to help with anything you’d need. But after the moon came out… She’s definitely the more laidback one now, compared to Fetch.
She always found at least some kind of fun in any situation, though a part of you wished she wouldn’t right at this moment. “Like, think about it. Remember when we first met? ‘N you found me diggin’ through your trash? You thought I was some kind’a dog. I wish I had a camera - remember the look on your face when I just started talking to you? Like…” She takes a pause, putting a paw up to her muzzle, trying her best not to laugh (and failing). Like her namesake, she is covered in a thick coat of purple. You remember that in her human form, she had purple highlights in her otherwise dark hair. You suppose the color of her fur was… somehow related to that? How does that even work? What would your fur look like? Yet another question you’d neglected to ask before, well. Y’know.
“Ohhhh my gosh, are you ever gonna leave me alone about that? I thought you were a lit-er-al wolf!!” Plum looks like she has something to say about that, but Fetch cuts her off: “I know, I know, I wasn’t wrong. You did turn out to be a huge bitch,” it says, voice saccharine and head tilting cutely to the side. Plum reaches over you to bop it with her paw, leaving you acutely aware of your position, sandwiched between your two friends. Squished, almost: both of them are much bigger than they are as humans, and they take up much more of the couch, too. You blush as her paw passes by your face—it’s bigger than your whole head. Thinking about Plum lurking out of sight, rummaging around with those powerful things… Thinking about how your own hands might be like that soon enough. You’d pipe up to ask about how soon to expect more changes, but it would be, what, the tenth time you asked? Plus, you’re not sure you want to draw attention to yourself if the partners start play-fighting. Well, maybe you would… But it’d probably be safer to wait until after your change.
But still. On one side, Fetch’s dense, cream fur coddles your arm and part of your leg, acting as a big, fluffy cushion. On the other side, Plum is really invading your personal space a bit as she tries to reach over at her partner. Being caught between a pair of - how tall are they– one, two, three… - six foot tall wolves has you squirming a bit. Partly to get comfy, and partly because… oh wow. This is really happening. Up until a few years ago, you’d figured werewolves weren’t, y’know, real? Your heart flutters. Your stomach tightens a bit, causing you to shudder - anything to somehow vent these feelings. You clench your fists and oh my god, were your fingernails always this sharp? They dig into your palms, causing you to relax your grip. Remembering the situation at hand - or was it ‘at paw’, Plum cranes her neck a bit to look down at you. At least, you’d assume that’s what she’s doing. Her snout is just about the only thing keeping her fluffy, full mane from completely covering her face.
“Hey, hey, listen dude,” she does her best to soothe you, “We’re gonna be here for you, alright? It’ll be like, kinda weird at first. Um, maybe a little scary? I dunno. But, like, once you get over the hump, it’ll feel sooo~o good. You’re gonna feel all soft ‘n like, fluffy ‘n stuff. Like, bwbwbwbwbwb.” She demonstrates in her own weird way, putting her paws to her own cheeks and rubbing them. Her ears, a little droopier than you’d expect from a wolf, flop from side to side as she bleps her tongue out at you. You do feel a bit more relaxed admittedly… Though, there’s another thing you hadn’t thought about before.
Werewolves smell. They don’t smell bad, really, though you wonder if there’s something else making you think that. They just have… a scent, one that’s hard to describe beyond… furry, and thanks to your spot between your two friends, they were basically hotboxing you with it. Every whiff of it makes you feel just a bit more, like, relaxed and stuff. I mean, these are your friends. They’re helping you through this. It’s just what the pack does for one another.
Fetch leans down, reaching behind you to put one paw on each of your shoulders, reassuring you. Well, trying to reassure you; getting so close is giving you another waft of Wolf Girl, and as familiar and calming as it is—you wonder if maybe you already knew what the two of them smelled like, and you’re just starting to recognize your friends the way dogs do—it’s starting to make your head spin. Or maybe that’s the changes, too…
“It really, really means a lot to us that we’re the ones you wanted to help you with this, bestie. Now, someone could have been a little bit gentler about infecting you,” it snips, pointing its snout accusingly at Plum. Oh, yeah. That’s where you recognize her smell from. She all but bowled you over when you had asked the two of them to bite you, and you… still thought about her weight on you fairly often. You wish you could stop thinking about it for, like, a second so you don’t seem like a flustered, shaky nerd, but it’s harder to forget it with every breath.“But the trust is still really sweet! And like, now I get to repay you for being so understanding when I came out, yeah?” It perks up its ears, smiling down at you. You (mercifully) lose yourself in that memory for a moment instead; you see its tail whipping back and forth behind it, and realize, yeah, you’ve been friends for a long time. You’re, like, besties! It always makes you giggle when Fetch calls you that. And you do trust them! Even if they’re a bit silly, you know the two of them are looking out for you. You’re in good paws.
“Yeah! We like, tooo~tally got you, dude. It’ll be a-okay,” she reassures you. “You’re like, basically our best friend so, like, y’know….
You blink a few times, shaking your head as your hearing gets more and more muffled. Wh,what’s happening? It’s as if your ears were suddenly plugged. You can’t hear anything now. Just as quickly as it happens, it seems to stop.
“Oh, huh.”
It’s not until you hear her voice again that you calm down. Though - wow, um, that was a bit loud?? You grimace, wondering just what caused her to shout like that. It was as if her voice gained a ton more bass all of a sudden. You glare up at her, opening your mouth to scold her, but you quickly realize that… like, everything is louder. The rumbling outside, the room’s ambience, even Fetch’s tail as it slaps the couch. Plum’s paw reaches down to the top of your head, where your… ears… are…? “Ohoho~ Hey, Fetch, check this out~” Like, you could just hear the excitement in Plum’s voice as beckons her partner. A pair of tall, fuzzy triangles peaks up from beneath your hair. Speaking of, has your hair gotten longer? You can like, kinda feel it brushing your shoulders… Your thoughts begin to swim as you feel your bestie’s paw just, rest upon your head like that. You want to look up at her, but something compels you to angle to head down. She holds one of your ears between her thumb and index finger, softly rubbing it between her digits. Your ear flicks in her gentle grip, instinctually moving in a way you like, really cannot control. Like, just a bit, y’know? The same, strange feeling causes your free ear to fold down, your shoulders to slump a bit… You squirm some more as the meekest little whine slips out. You rub your nose. Either that scent is getting stronger, or like, your nose is getting more sensitive. Either way… It’s enough to make you sneeze.
“Awww!” Fetch practically whispers. “The new ears are so cuuuuute! Just go easy on ‘em, Plum, you know those things are sensitive when you first get ‘em.” It bends down, poking its snout right into the ear you’ve angled away from Plum. Its voice is so quiet that it barely moves the air, but it’s still so totally clear: “How do you like ‘em, though, bestie?” You shudder, the tingle in your ear crashing down the back of your neck, along your spine, and into your tail—into your tail?! You twist around, pulling your head away from Plum’s paw (you have to suppress another whimper at the thought of no longer being petted) and, looking down, see a fluffy sprout bunching up the bottom of your shirt. Your eyes get all big, and as you get all excited about it, you watch it start wagging basically on its own? And you can feel it and it feels like you’re dancing for joy? You yell, looking back up at the two girls to either side, and Fetch yells back at you. “Oh my gosh oh my GOSH!!!” It squeals. “I can’t believe it came in so quickly!! It’s soooooo cute oh my gosh…” It pauses, then leans down conspiratorially, its own tail wagging again, energetic and out of time with yours. “Hey. You know what’d be a real fun way to scream it all out? Since we’re celebrating?” You tilt your head, feeling your ears flop with the motion, and realize that you probably look a lot like Fetch did a minute ago.
You have a good idea of what it means. If there’s one good thing about all those werewolf movies you like to watch - you kind of know the beats to this ‘story’. …That, and, your friends finding your collection is what set this into motion in the first place. Your tail wags furiously as you put your paws together. That short, stubby thing grows inch by inch, moment by moment. Every little wag it makes, it feels softer, so much softer. You start to understand what Plum meant by those fuzzy feelings. Just the sensation of having a tail at all, let alone wagging it, fills you with a euphoria you didn’t know you yearned for - a euphoria that seems to bubble up inside you. You’ve never howled before, but you’re totally not against it.
“Scream it out…?” Plum quietly asks, a little slower on the draw than you. She perks up an ear, furrowing her brow. “What, like… Oh. Ohhhh.” And she friggin’ grins. “Oh, man. It’ll be just like when we first came out. She leans a bit, squishing you between the two of them. Plum reaches out for her pawrtner’s paw, gently taking hold of it. “Remember that~? It was like, so romantic…~ Holding paws, howling together, getting nice and close after~ And like, we started getting all grabby ‘n stuff, testing each other out, and…~ And– A-Anyway,” she catches herself, sparing you the more… intimate. details, “You ready~? One, two, three!~”
“AwooOOO~OOO~~!” Angling her head up, Plum gives it her all! It starts low and slow, but ramps up in volume until it’s all you can hear. And you feel hyped! Your euphoria reaches a fever pitch, boiling over until you just can’t keep it in anymore! Why not follow your instincts, joining your besties in their symphony?
With Plum’s voice reverberating between your ears, inside your skull, coursing through your chest like the bass of the speakers at a concert, you lift your voice as well, throwing your head back and lifting your voice to match hers, at least as best you can. It cracks and scratches more than once, but you don’t care. It still sounds beautiful to you, and it’s such a rush! You feel like you’re standing through the sunroof and blasting music on the way home from a frat party; you feel like you’re on stage and your voice is carrying through a packed arena.
Fetch claps its paws together, “yay”-ing and chanting ‘go, go, go!” before finally lifting its own snout and joining the two of you. It effortlessly, naturally harmonizes with Plum—the two of them have been running as a pack for a long time, after all, and they’ve had more practice individually than you have. Still, the sound the three of you make together makes butterflies in your stomach, and then washes them away again with liquid awe. It’s like the crowd you were singing to is cheering back, a beautiful droning of joyful voices, shouting wildly and without inhibition.
You were always so jealous of the two of them, once you’d found out. They’d been your friends for years, but when they started dating, and after Fetch realized it was otherkin, Plum turned it at its request, and well—it’s a lot harder to hide two werewolves than it is to hide one. Of course, it didn’t change anything between the three of you, other than feeling a little weird about your fascination with werewolves. Being a fan of the genre, being a furry, even, felt sorta… like stereotyping them? Fetch would use the word “appropriative”, if it wasn’t currently singing its lungs out.
Now, though, after their reassurance, and after doing a bit of digging into those “weird” feelings, you just feel like you’ve been missing out! You keep howling until your throat gets tired, until you start choking on your own drool and feeling the scratchy strain on your new vocal cords. At some point, Fetch reaches out to pat you on the head again, and notices something about your shoulders.
“Dude! No way! Your coat is coming in now, too!” You finally gulp down a breath, after what feels like holding a note for an eternity (and pretty poorly, but hey, you can already feel yourself getting better!) and reach up to feel around your neck. Your hair hasn’t just gotten longer—it’s begun to crawl its way down between your shoulder blade and along your arms!
You think back to before, the way your tail first sprouted from beneath your shirt. You’re getting the same feeling now, watching your new coat spill over your shirt’s collar. You were always pretty flat, but - your cheeks start to glow as you feel your shirt ride up, buoyed by your developing bosom. If that isn’t enough, that same fur spreads across it, only adding to its mass. A thick tuft sprouts up in your cleavage, helping it to spill over the top of your collar. And god, it feels warm. You grow aware of that as you hug around it. You squeeze it in your arms, and an exhilarating feeling rumbles throughout your body. …Or, was that rumbling coming from you? One end of your mouth curls up as you growl to yourself, prompting an amused coo from Plum.
“Hey. Nice teeth.~”
You break from your self-imposed stupor for a moment, instinctively licking your teeth. They’re sharp. Especially your canines, but the rest of your teeth have grown similarly long and jagged. You whisper something resembling a ‘thank you’, too sheepish and too caught up trying to keep yourself even halfway composed. It’s a losing battle, though. Your shirt rubs up against your chest, making every little squirm a challenge to keep yourself quiet. As your coat thickens, it shimmers in the dim light. Your thoughts are harder to grip, divided among so many unfamiliar sensations. Your ears flick and swivel with every little sound. Your tail curls and wags and bats the cushion behind you. Your nose, well on its way to snoutsville is full of unfamiliar, addictive smells. You don’t know what to do with yourself. You reach out to Fetch, grabbing its arm and clinging to her. You let out a whine, rubbing your cheek against its silky fur, hoping for a lifeline as a warm, kind of itchy, but liberating feeling spreads further down your body as it is overtaken by your developing coat.
It doesn’t help you as much as you were hoping. Like, not at all. Fetch is just sooooo comfy, and you feel Plum’s paw between your ears again, and your head starts getting like… all cloudy and stuff… She gets her claws in, short little scratches that drag further and further down through your hair, down the back of your neck—soooo so sososo sensitive right now!!---and up behind your jaw, and you whiiiiiiine and just slowly slump over across Fetch’s lap. It giggles, Plum giggles, and if you weren’t so busy squirming, you might be laughing too, from the way she’s making your head swim.
With your head in its lap like that, panting from all the stimulation, you smell it even more strongly. It smells good. It makes your face burn, it gets your blood pumping, and you follow your nose to its source without a moment’s hesitation, before looking down your snout and realizing it’s pushing into her skirt, right between her legs. You freeze, eyes darting up to its face. It’s laughing harder than it was before, so like… you didn’t make it uncomfortable? Or mad? At least? Plum gives your rear (oh god you were pointing your butt straight at her) a SLAP with her heavy paw, and both of them crack up all over again at the involuntary YELP. It at least un…unsticked the gears in your brain. You apologize profusely, finally pulling your face away from Fetch’s crotch, but it reaches its paw up to cup your snout. “Bestie, don’t even worry. Everybody gets, uh… kinda excited, on their first time. I know I did!” It pauses. “I mean, me and Plum were already dating by then, so—” The mention of dating makes your face so hot that you have to bring up your own paws—when had they even finished changing!! Omigosh!!—to cover it. “Ohhhhh… I mean, hey, I wasn’t bringing that up to say we couldn’t try stuff!! New instincts, new feelings, no judgment, right? That’s what we said!” You look up at her, half-desperate and half-embarrassed, eager to hear the reassurance. “And I mean… we could try dating too, if you wanted? Right, Plum?”
“Oh, yeah,” she readily agrees, before looking down at you, “If you’re, y’know, comfortable with it. Because…”
Your ears flop down as she leans in, her snout basically touching yours. The way she stares at you seems to demand your attention. Whatever she’s about to say, it must be important. You nearly flinch as she opens her mouth again, pre-empting what she might say next. And what does she say?
“I can be a little ruff.”
Your embarrassment like, kinda deflates a little. You almost feel annoyed that you walked into that one. You look up at Fetch again, hoping it could relate, only to be greeted with a barely controlled snicker.
“But, really.” The sound of her voice turns your attention back to her. “If you wanna give yourself a test drive, we’ve got you covered.”As she speaks, Fetch’s paw returns to your head, and, like… wow.~ Your thoughts swim and spiral anew as you let out a content, short “hwrrff.” You tilt your head towards her, savoring her touch. Those gentle, drawn-out strokes. You detect a new scent wafting up from the two of them, fanned by their tails’ steady wags. You can’t put a finger on what it means until you feel a warmth between your loins, one that only deepens the more you breathe it in. You suppose that this is one of the many, many things that you’ll learn before dawn. The night’s just getting started, after all.

Hello. Your art is really amazing, and I am starting to try to get into drawing people. Do you have any suggestions on finding an art style?
Well, my experience has been just finding things that I like the look of. I started drawing Equestria Girls when I was in middle school, and I learned how to do that style because that was just what I was into at the time. But then I started not liking how huge the eyes were, and how tiny the waist and arm proportions were, so I decided to take some inspiration from anime and Disney. I like Avatar the last Airbender, Tangled, Frozen, (basically ALL of Disney’s renaissance and experimental era) My Hero Academia, Haikyuu, and I could go on and on… but I took a bunch of little things I liked from each of them. I learned a lot about foreshortening and proper proportion sizes from Anime, and then there’s little touches like how I shade dark under their necks—that’s from My Hero. I also love looking at cute independent comics online, and just stalk up on ALL THE ART THINGS because the more art you absorb, the bigger the stockpile in your brain of references grows. I also have an Art Board on Pinterest where I collect good tips and tricks. Recently, I’ve been LOVING going back and looking at old Cartoon Network styles and going for that sort of simplified look—that’s a lot of what you’re seeing in my comics recently, combined with my Avatar and Anime influences—and the reason I do it is just because I like how it looks, and it’s fun to draw :) That’s about all that really matters when finding a style you like/your own art style. You can’t expect it to happen all at once. You’re gonna spend a long time just mimicking other people, while combining a few styles together, until eventually you’ve got enough experience to start experimenting and creating something unique. Just keep going and have fun! Draw what you love! And never give up!

what I think is really striking about it all is more about human society than the tech itself - a demo of how quickly a technique can go from being 'cool idea' to 'everyone is using this'. obvs I work in a tech industry so I'm surrounded by the kind of people who pay attention to this kind of thing, but language models went from 'funny internet toy' to 'half the people I know regularly talk to our new friend ChatGPT' in what felt like a matter of months, to the point where I start to feel like the weird stick in the mud for not wanting to ask this thing to rephrase my emails or whatever.
I think the superpower of humans is not so much our ability to do reasoning etc., but how good we are at copying novel behaviours from other humans. it's this form of replication-with-modification that allows evolution to take place on a much faster timescale than 'try this new allele and see if you can still fuck'. consider how quickly we went from 'heavier than air flight is impossible' to 'quick, hide, the flying people are back to drop more bombs on our trench!'.
once it's been done once by someone, we can distil and simplify the process of 'doing that thing' and iterate on it and do it again and again and again until we exhaust its limits.
the pattern prevails on all sorts of scales. a new behaviour becomes a new referential frame (from 'how can we make this plane go higher' to 'how can I make a cool new yoyo trick'). an experiment can become a standard technique. the goal and 'meta' will shift as the subculture evolves. and all the time we adapt, adapt, adapt. new people show up, get up to speed, and contribute to something new. before we know it, we're optimising to a level that would be incomprehensible to people a few decades before.
so evolution hit on something amazing with our super plastic brains. it's not all rosy, the same basic 'thing' that lets us learn is what lets us become traumatised, and we can easily learn and adopt disastrously bad behaviours like "burning lots of fossil fuels" or "genocide". we are incredibly, radically undetermined creatures, for good and ill.
but then... that's exactly what we're trying to imitate with these neural networks. evolution has had millions of years to finetune its learning model, and yet even our crude approximation is already showing a lot of traits that we recognise in ourselves. so as much as the current wave is blatantly overhyped, blatantly a bubble, and being used to fill the internet with worthless detritus at huge energy cost because of course it is... even as I roll my eyes at the new AI-enabled toothbrush, I hesitate to dismiss AI research as being as vacuous as cryptocurrency. I'm sure it will take years for it to shake out exactly what it's good for, and there will be a lot of false starts along the way before it speciates into various sub-industries, but it is something new and it's a big one.
what's startling about all this is not the potential for an AI god to emerge and turn us all into paperclips, it's getting to witness the human superorganism adapt and develop a novel behaviour on an incredibly short timescale.

do u know how to render...
lol i mean ik u do but can u teach me?????? (only if u want :3)
HERE WE GO. I am by NO means an expert/professional, so my process isn’t perfect nor is it the most efficient (😭), but here’s my process + some time lapses.
added a border because this post is so damn long
1. sketch — I try to make sure it’s accurate if there is a ref, and the proportions are right in this because the sketch determines how good the rest of the piece is and how much tweaking you’ll have to do in the future. Think of it like the foundation: if it’s wonky, everything else will be wonky and it’ll be a HUGE pain to fix later (speaking from experience). The purly painting is probably a great example of what NOT to do in this case! That thing took so much time because I didn’t have a good enough sketch and I didn’t really have my colors down, so I did a bunch of tweaking, which you’ll probably see in the time lapse.
2. Base colors/undertones/blocking in: this 100% differs depending on ur style, preference, and goal of the painting. If I’m doing a photo study for value or color, I’ll simplify it down as much as possible (basic colors or 3 values). Undertones are there if you’re REALLY working a traditional method I think.
I think this is one of my best examples of this type of painting. This is purely copying a photo to the most accurate, and if I had to do anything differently, I’d block in the shapes and shadows THEN go into all those details (I feel this would be more efficient but, again, preference lol).
3. Shadows — this really goes hand in hand with the previous step, but I like to establish these with usually a cooler tone depending on the environment and lighting. If your piece is outside on a clear day, the shadows on a lot of things will be blue due to the light from the sky. If you look at enough pictures and pretty much anywhere around you, you’ll see how light and shadow interacts with colors of the environment, which is really cool!!!
4. Messing with it — with those undertones and shadows, I might add in extra colors like redness or blue for things like skin to get that layered feel (especially considering how skin isn’t totally uniform due to its mild transparency). Then I’ll color pick those in between tones and block in stuff and do it until it feels right. The Angela painting is probably my best example of this, which I’ll reblog with (plus two other ones) For Curly’s jacket, I used a few different brushes to get that texture and the whole process was basically scribbling until it looked right. Hatching is one of my favorite methods to get a little texture in, so I do that a lot too.
5. Finally touches/technical settings — once everything is totally done, I’ll usually mess around with the Hue, Saturation, and Brightness along with Color Balance and Curves on the overall painting until I’m happy with it. Then I’ll probably turn up the Sharpness a little and maybe add some chromatic aberration.
Overall, I usually do these steps going from background (if there is one) -> skin -> clothing -> hair, but I hop around a lot. I usually establish the flats overall then render each individual one.
Also, lighting does NOT have to be warm and shadows do NOT have to be cool; it all depends on the context. As long as your values are right, your colors will probably look good. Of course, it’s still worth knowing how to make them harmonious or contrast and allat, but values are the main foundation. Online resources are also awesome (my favorites being Proko, Marco Bucci, and Sinix among many others) and just observing things around you and others’ art is an incredibly powerful tool. I usually like to check my values by making my painting black and white by coloring in a luminosity layer with white. This method isn’t universal due to different programs, but if there’s a setting to turn ur drawing black and white, I def recommend it.
youtube
youtube
A side note: my rendering style is basically just painting 😭 At most I have like 5 layers max (sketch, flats, background, subject, hair or anything else I’m afraid to fuck up) but I end up combining flats and sketch most of the time and just paint over it. Most of the time, I have 2-3 layers and combine them all by the end. For the (currently) black and white Johnny one I’ll reblog with is just one layer, but I’ll probably make layers to overlay color and another to add variation/detail. My process isn’t very uniform or clean 💀
I am SO sorry this turned out to be such a long post good god
EDIT: I realized the paragraph I thought was deleted actually just moved so I erased it lmao

Hi Taffybuns! Thank you for being you and artist that has passion to make. My brother told me that he bought two shirts out of it and he loved it, i was surprised you were the artist drew design! (the pokemon ones!)
Though I am curious and i hope you'll able to respond, do you have advice to make my art for merchandise in the future? I don't mind if you want to simplified explaination, a tumblr posts, or dropping a youtube link video; since you're busy with conventions.
I'm picky when it comes youtube art videos that are always give me the vibes of elitism, clickbait videos or others. You're the first artist I wanted to ask, so i hope it's fine if you can reply or not.
Sending my best regards to you. Take care and love your art as always. (I hope i can buy your pokemon hawaiin shirt!)
hello! thanks so much for the sweet message!!
apologies for the confusion, though! the pokemon shirts arent mine! i share a joint storefront with my friend and tablemate, you can view all his designs here! we have our store bio set to say we are two artists, but it's hard to see on the shopee site format, haha. i'll pass this message along to him, and i hope you can buy his shirts in the future too, they're very well made! i'm glad your brother enjoys them!
(if anyone is reading this, he also has them listed internationally on Etsy! my items aren't here though, sorry!!)
i assume you're PH based aswell if your brother got our shirts, so i'm gonna link some resources and basic advice under the cut-
i'd be glad to help where i can, though my basic advice is to just start.. i began selling merch with dann (friend who made the pokemon shirts) when we were just classmates in college, and we started at small anime events selling small prints with our table falling apart hahajkfghjk.. but even back then everyone was so friendly, so it was very encouraging !! the art community is very sweet and there is a lot of support for you !!
first, you'll want to find your market! this will determine what conventions you want to apply to and what kind of merch you want to make. do you want to make fanart, or original art? are you doing mostly stickers, tote bags, or anime merch? or do you just want to sell online?
second, what is your budget for merch production? starting out is expensive, personally my funds always circulate between profit and spending on restocks again. this will determine what kind of merch you can make, and then you expand later! i started out with only stickers and art prints, then keychains, and then bags and t-shirts later on!
if you're into original art, some events i recommend for beginners are Patrons of the Arts, Buzzart, Komiket. they have regular events throughout the year. if you're into stickers, there's Stickercon and Sticky Expo!
if you're into fan art, you can try ozinefest (sales are slower but table cost is cheaper), or if you have enough money, split for cosplay ph events
of course these aren't the only events, though they're the ones i regularly attend! if you have a more specialized market, there are dedicated cons like philifur, the grand lason, pokecon, etc. for all of these events you'll either have to keep your eyes peeled for table openings on their pages (rare), or email them to be added to their mailing list so you'll be told when they're open
if you don't have any suppliers yet, you can apply to join Artist Alley Group Order on facebook ! people regularly post about suppliers for all kinds of merchandise that you can look up. if you want any recommendations you can message me off-anon!
as for the merchandise itself, this varies person to person. my market is more obscure fanart that other people don't sell, and cutesy original art! i sell big illustrations as prints, though other people report on having a hard time selling prints. it depends on the content and art style. you'll have to experiment and see, or look around other shops to see what sells! visiting art markets yourself is also a huge help, to see the market, make friends in the artph community, and support artists!
i'd recommend starting out with stickers and prints- they're the cheapest to produce, and people often buy stickers because of their low price at cons. when you get more familiar with the market you can try going onto more expensive things to reproduce!
again if you want details, let me know! this is very vague and general advice, if u have any specific questions i'll do my best if i'm not busy! don't be afraid to surf thru some videos too, a lot are very helpful n not too elitist!
gl and take care aswell anon!

me rambling about gender for some versions of miles (both canon and au) under the cut
movie miles1610B (non-binary transfem) is the most realistic and expected (imo) when it comes to a teen boy realizing she might be a teen something-else, and there are societal pressures + spider-man pressures + parental pressures + natural high anxiety levels that really add onto why she’s so hesitant and takes the longest to accept and be okay with being trans herself. she’s fine with other trans people, it’s specifically a her thing. She sees gender as just a part of life, something she’s always had, but as she learns more and more, she realizes it is a performance, and she can do whatever she wants, which ends up circling back to looking how she normally does most of the time. really simplified version but you’d have to go through my older posts for more in depth explanations for movie miles specifically. Sometimes i think of Miles being intersex too, but i don’t know enough about the types to be really confident in that hc so it’s more of an exploring starting point whenever i feel like deep diving.
comic miles (cis-genderless) would describe himself as a cis male, but only because that’s what he was assigned at birth, completely uncaring of literally anything else. He’s connected to it because that’s what he was labeled as when he was born, and how he’s connected to the people in his life, but he himself doesn’t see it as anything really important. He’s his parents’ son, he’s his uncle’s nephew, he’s someone’s boyfriend, he’s the “strange boy” to a stranger, he’s the “black dude”, and though he hates that his race has anything to do with his connection to being male, it unfortunately shapes him. To himself, he is just Miles! If someone referred to him with more feminine language, he would be shocked but not totally weirded out, it depended on intent. He’s not open about this either bc he doesn’t see it as something important to share, but Ganke and Kenneth would be the first to know if he cared to tell. if he had a spidey social media acc he would have he/they in the pronouns section
playstation miles (questioning non-binary) is diff between the two games he’s mainly in, mostly because he figured out he was non-binary ages ago and was ready to come out, but so many things have happened in a short amount of time, which basically shoved him back into the closet. He was going to come out to his parents, but then his father died, and miles had this subconscious worry about now being the “man” of the house that his mother could also rely on so she wouldn’t have to grieve alone, and to prove that he could handle his own grief as well. his grief made him forget his own gender struggles for a time, and Roxxon, Phin’s death, Aaron’s reveal, it all stacked up and he was just “fine i’m not non-binary anymore i can’t deal with another huge thing!!” Now, in SM2, he was vaguely considering it again, because it felt so right before his father died, and things seem to be going okay lately, but you know how that went. Kraven capturing him also hurt the masculine parts of himself that he liked, so throw that into the fire. He only really feels he has time after the events of SM2, but is hesitant to come out or talk to anyone about it, because he just isn’t sure and doesn’t want to seem like he’s faking, so he just stews for now. It does bother him a lot and he experiences dysphoria in the “wish i didn’t have a human body” way. poor non-binary essential worker :(
e-42 miles (agender) is right after this instead of with movie miles because of how similar he is to playstation miles and comic miles. However, he is completely ignoring it to the point where he almost forgets it entirely, because he cares so little. His remaining family and fighting to make the world even slightly better is all he really cares about, so something like gender, including being regarded as a “son” and “nephew”, mean nothing, it’s about the bond rather than the label people give to it. He doesn’t feel this pressure of not feeling like he can tell his mom or uncle, it’s more of a “i might be non-binary but i have a job rn so i don’t really care about that” thing for him. However, he doesn’t like being referred to in any feminine way, and likes neutral/masculine language.
acau miles (complicated) is definitely not cis but autism + trauma recovery makes him view himself as “not human not animal just miles and spider-man!” so unlabeled spiderthing is where he’s at. Their pronouns got lost in the wash. It missed its gender orientation. Actually, Miles doesn’t use pronouns past 9pm: Get Fucked, Well-Meaning Citizen! Also, she doesn’t understand why some people get so worked up and invested with gender and pronouns, but he does sometimes say very rude and offensive things to Peter even before learning he’s trans because of what he’s heard growing up and what it knows that generally pisses men off. Matt and Aaron are working on making him less of a personified CoD lobby dw… it’s just gonna take a bit lol. doesn’t help that Peter returns the insults in full and encourages it against others sometimes

I always find games that try to simulate people or society very interesting because, though all games reflect the beliefs of their creators to some degree, the only thing these simulators are is a reflection of someone or a team’s ideas about how people and the world work.
In Call of Duty, there’s still the obvious thumbprint of ideology, there’s the reason you always play as NATO forces and never against, but the main thing the game wants to simulate is guns, how they look and sound and feel, and that’s fairly cut-and-dry. But when your core simulation is an economy, or city infrastructure, or interpersonal relationships, you don’t get that.
The game I’m most interested in with this is Rimworld, in large part because it’s mostly a one-person project, and it’s on a more intimate level than something like Cities: Skyline. It also has an expansion called “Ideology” where every faction now has an intricate belief system (where you can also customize your own) where it’s fairly obvious that the creator has, at best, weird ideas about how governance and gender and sexuality and bigotry work.
And while there’s been writing on that already, what I really want to talk about is how this reflection doesn’t go one way, because the game has a huge modding scene that’s extremely accessible, and while many mods are quality of life features or just silly additions, a lot are active disagreements with the way the game constructs people and society, whether it’s overhauling how mental illness is coded, or how relationships form, or trying to add the ability to be trans and non-binary
And then these mods are often in conversation with each other, either building off of each other or outright competing, because even the most well-meaning additions still have to contend with the fact that translating the human experience into code is never going to go perfectly.
For example, I don’t use the biggest mod that adds trans people to the game, even though I obviously want us there, because the way it systemizes dysphoria and what transition means is in total conflict with my experiences.
A lot of the mods that add/change mental illness or disorders end up very imperfect, but there’s one mod’s version of autism that I love because, in addition to the basic stuff like “this character gets stressed by large groups or people trying to talk to her too often,” it also makes it so the character just straight up follow orders you give her, and she’ll get mad that you had the audacity to try disrupting her routine. She might do it later when she finishes her other tasks, or she might just never do it. I based a character on my wife and her little person hates the feeling of a rifle slung over her shoulder and will only pick up her gun when she absolutely needs it. She also won’t wear her proper helmet and instead wears a shittier one because she likes how it looks more.
And sure, the mod isn’t perfect, no effort to take the complexity of a person and simplify it into code can be, but to everyone who has ever had a game try to define you out of existence and fought back, I love you. Whether it’s the trans woman who dubbed over all of Jedi: Fallen Order because EA didn’t care enough to put women in, or my friend that I spent hours with figuring out how to replace all our soldiers in some indie rts game with women, or the countless modders for the Sims and Rimworld and every other game that simulates people who tried to make people who felt truer to themselves and those they loved, and everyone inbetween, I love you. I love you, and I’m glad I’m not alone in that fight

Hello everyone, this is my way of announcing that I've decided to "fuse" all my little Kuro AUs/ideas (or as many as I can) into one single huge AU:
Tumblr media
It’s just easier for me to have one big pretentious project where all arcs are connected instead of going back and forth between AUs 🤷🏻
⬇️Context under the cut⬇️
For those who haven't seen her this is Belmon or just B (any pronouns), the demon OC I shamelessly ship with Grell, I’ve been thinking lately that I really should draw her interacting with other characters 🙂 She belongs to a species of demon that don’t eat souls but instead sustain themselves by absorbing other creatures’ energy, called succubus/incubus or Life Leeches. They’re still immortal eldritch entities beyond human comprehension that originally come from another realm and have limitless shapeshifting abilities, but they’re a little less “otherworldly” in the sense that they experience more human-like emotions and feelings, have concepts of romance, affection, sexuality, friendship and family and can indulge themselves in human pleasures like sleep and food, even if they don’t need them. They also begin their life similarly to humans in that they reproduce sexually, and age like humans during their first years, though they stop aging once they reach adulthood.
When I initially created the AU where I included her, the basic plot was that Sebastian was a familiar demon who had first made a contract with Vincent (which explained why they had a similar physical appearance). The attack at the manor still happened but both twins survived, and then the contract was passed to RCiel and Madam Red, who was also a watchdog, became the twins’ legal guardian. Grell wasn’t a reaper but some kind of spirit of nature who was An’s familiar and they were like sisters, then they met a badly injured and weakened Belmon whose human family had been killed by feral demons, and after taking her in she also became An’s familiar and later fell in love with Grell.
I’ve been making a lot of changes to the AU and scraped most of that. The story so far is that B isn’t anyone’s familiar (and never had a human family) but some demon who has her own place and does her own thing. She’s an acquaintance of Sebastian, they don’t see each other too often but know how to find each other when they need to (at this point in time none of them has met Grell, she’ll come into their lives later). B is a very young demon, in fact at the time this scene takes place she’s chronologically 21 years old, unlike Sebastian whose life spans millennia. So B is pretty much a “new demon”. Despite this, she’s lived among humans most of her life and is an expert on them and their needs.
When Sebastian gets out of the cult’s building with the unconscious Ciel (turns out the conditions the poor boy was kept in gave him a nasty respiratory infection), he doesn’t really know what to do with him. Well, he knows the first thing is to pull the child away from death’s door, but he doesn’t know exactly how to save him on his own, and he has no time to lose. His best choice is to go to B for help, as Life Leeches can not only absorb other creature’s energy but also give them their own energy via physical contact. In fact their supernatural healing abilities are often chosen over (or along with) human doctors for more serious or urgent stuff, they may not be able to quickly and miraculously cure a serious illness or heal a life threatening wound, but they can help a person’s body fight it by keeping it strong. So he basically shows up at her door and hands the child to her like “Plz help ☹️”
Note 1: “Crow” is how B addresses Sebastian before he actually starts going by Sebastian. I headcanon that a demon’s real name isn’t even known to other demons, so they often give each other names based on a color, animal or any other thing that is commonly associated with them. Belmon is actually a shorter simplified version of her real name, and Sebastian calls her Blue.
B absolutely adores children of any species and is more than happy to help nurse little Ciel back to health, she’s just puzzled that a demon like Crow is suddenly acting all motherly and protective 😱
Note 2: I made Ciel’s hair a little bit longer and messier because, realistically, seeing as how the cultists treated the children I don’t think they would’ve bothered to keep them groomed ☠️
(I'm tempted to give the Phantomhive boy so many parental figures but I swear I'll still draw him mainly interacting with Sebas 😂).

Hey!
As a person who only recently started a second reading of ASOIAF and is thus finally appreciating some characters I initially overlooked (like Arya), I would love to know what you think about her and Sandor. I’ve seen many people portray them as an almost father/daughter duo, but I think this was an idea which was partially amplified by the show. I hesitate at forming clearer thoughts because I think the Hound is very clearly Arya’s abuser, but I can also see some affection there.
Why do you think did she refuse to grant him the gift of mercy?
Please don’t feel obligated to elaborate if you don’t want to! I’m interested in what you think, but fully understand if you’d rather not bring up the topic.
Thanks for reading this anyway! And (also for today’s art! Brought a huge smile to my face.)
Thanks a lot for the compliments. I'ill try to answer you as best as I can.
The dynamic between Sandor and Arya is often twisted, softening it into a father-daughter one. We are human and we like to simplify and box concepts, even narrative ones. So after a while some time has passed from your last reading you start to forget how abusive and scary and violent the Hound really is towards this girl he kidnapped and with little effort you get them to fit into the hugely popular trope ' badass and child duo'.
The show also and above all contributed to this distortion. In general, Arya's journey has been tailored in a way that makes her experience more adventurous and less horrific. Then came someone who had the great idea of cutting short the time that she spends with the Brotherhood to give more space to the Hound.
I leave you the links of two examples of scenes that have changed the characterization of these two, from books to show: the coin and the crossroads inn.
Going back to the books I think it's important to remember how Arya thinks of Sandor first and foremost as the killer who slaughtered an innocent child who was her friend. She hates him. Her feelings become more complicated when Sandor begins to show her the most basic human decency by not selling her to the enemies of the Starks.
But let's not delude ourselves, it's not his good heart that pushes him. the Hound has committed treason against the crown, he's not stupid, he knows perfectly well that if he goes back to the Lannisters to sold Arya, they'll kill him.
In my opinion Arya doesn't kill Sandor to make him suffer, but not only that. She can't bring herself to kill him. I think she fails to recognize that at this moment in her life she sees herself in the Hound's dark worldview because she is at her lowest point: alone, orphaned, homeless, aimless.
I think it's normal to have mixed feelings about the Hound. We experience all of this from Arya's POV and she has the same mixed feelings. There is no simple answer. But one thing I can tell you: she is not "his stupid son!".
Final rant: I can't stand him. Oh wow a grown man who knows more than a 10 year old girl, do you want a prize? You don't even hand her over to the people who orphaned her! And every now and then you feed her! Pat pat Sandor, they should make you a saint! Fuck you.
I wish you a good reread!

Scott of the Antarctic (1948)
Scott's 1910 expedition to the South Pole is famous for ending in death and disaster, but this 1948 dramatization is so full of jovial post-WWII patriotism that the tragic finale almost comes as a surprise. rarely have i seen such a zealous piece of propaganda for the british stiff upper lip. a real treat for anyone interested in the cultural obsession around polar explorers.
Tumblr media
i wound up watching Scott of the Antarctic by chance, thanks to a local screening with a live orchestra playing the score by Vaughan Williams. filmed by Ealing Studios (known for making crowd-pleasing and Extremely British films in the mid-20th century), it offers a surprisingly accurate - albeit simplified - portrayal of how Scott's team prepared and executed their mission.
or rather, it's "accurate" in the sense that it covers the correct timeline and contributing factors to Scott's demise (bad luck; under-funding; prioritizing motor sledges over dogs; hiring unqualified teammembers), while presenting these facts in such an upbeat Boys Own Adventure tone that viewers can enjoy the tragic heroism with an uncritical eye.
lots of scenes with adorable dogs and penguins. an unmistakably Ealing enthusiasm for english lads having an ol' knees-up. not to mention the epic technicolor photogrography accompanied by a stirring score. you can absolutely see why it would be a huge hit with british audiences at the time.
one of the things i find most interesting about these 19th/20th century polar expeditions is the psychology of the guys in charge. it's like running for president or competing in a non-lucrative olympic sport; you have to be a real freak to do it. as a distant spectator, i'm perpetually torn between morbid awe at the indomitable human spirit, and thinking “uh what the fuck is wrong with these guys.”
the english explorers often seem to be laden down with the most hubris, desperate to stick their flag in a new piece of land as the British Empire begins to wind down. and of course they’re convinced that any amount of hardship can be overcome, and suffering must be met by boundless stoicism - an attitude that’s drummed in from childhood by the brutal british prep school system. Scott joined Queen Victoria’s Navy at the age of 13; the kind of formative experience that completely warps your reactions to hardship.
meanwhile the norwegian explorers Nansen and Amundsen (who beat Scott to the south pole) are equally singleminded and eccentric, but often seem to make more practical decisions in terms of basic survival techniques. the main contrast offered in this film is the different ways the British and Norwegian teams treat their dogs.
Amundsen (who never appears onscreen) traveled to antarctica with over a hundred dogs, serving a dual purpose: pulling the sledges and acting as a portable food supply. Scott, who is portrayed as squeamish about killing and eating Man’s Best Friend, opts for a combination of dogs, ponies, motor vehicles and man-hauled sledges. the film makes it clear why this was a bad idea, while tacitly endorsing Scott’s viewpoint by lingering on the cuteness of the dogs. this feels very similar to the weird internal tension between the film’s overall tone (a sentimental celebration of stiff-upper-lip heroism) and the basic fact all this suffering could've been avoided. the stiff upper lip is bad, actually! maybe you don’t actually need to die of frostbite!
obviously i'm not *actually* attempting to backseat drive a deadly journey into the great unknown, but surely the most british element of this movie is the way these guys voluntarily put themselves through a ton of unnecessary pain, failed in their goal to defeat johnny foreigner, and then the apparent moral of the story is "this is good, actually."
