I see this as an absolute win. You shouldn’t even proceed until you have scripts you can be proud of. I just wish the creative team had been given a better chance and fair treatment.

Marvel's 'Black Panther' Sequel Shoot to Begin in July
Tumblr media
Tenoch Huerta, star of Netflix's 'Narcos: Mexico,' is joining the cast of the untitled film from Ryan Coogler, sources tell THR.
Marvel Studio’s plans for the sequel to Black Panther are starting to come into focus.
The sequel was sidelined due to the sudden and unexpected death of star Chadwick Boseman and a planned March 2021 production start was waylaid as filmmaker Ryan Coogler and Marvel tried to navigate grief and the need to move forward. It was the nadir of a year that saw no Marvel movies released for the first time since 2009.
However, even as the continuing coronavirus upends theatrical distribution and plays havoc with its Phase 4 rollout, Marvel is about to enter 2021 the busiest it has ever been as it juggles not only multiple movies but a major push into TV.
Multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Marvel is now readying Black Panther 2 for a shoot that will start in Atlanta in July and last for upwards of six months.
Mexican actor Tenoch Huerta, who was one of the stars of Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico, is in talks to play one of the antagonist, sources tell THR. Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke and Angela Bassett are expected to return for the new feature, with some saying Wright’s character may take on a more prominent role.
Marvel, which had no comment on this story, has not revealed its plans on how it plans to proceed without Boseman, although it has indicated that it will not use CGI to include the late star in the film.
While Black Panther 2 is receiving special attention, it is the many Disney+ series that are under heavy scrutiny from Kevin Feige and his executives.
“The series are the priority,” says one source with knowledge of the company’s strategy. “Ramping them up takes a lot of focus. The movie machinery is well established.”
In March, the Feige-run studio begins production on both She-Hulk, starring Tatiana Maslany, and Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight. All will debut on Disney+ as Marvel’s parent leans on the studio to deliver, in the words of Disney CEO Bob Chapek, “world-class, franchise-based content” to its 73 million global subscribers. The shows are launching hopeful franchises that are to tie to the movie side of Marvel and, with merchandising, comics and more, across the Disney brand.
WandaVision, starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, debuts on Disney+ on Jan. 15, and the studio is working to complete the first seasons of Loki and Falcon and the Winter Soldier, both of which were partially shot before COVID-19 shuttered production. The studio also recently began the Atlanta shoot of Ms. Marvel, starring newcomer Iman Vellani.
On the film side, the next chapter is being carefully planned for a cinematic universe that has spanned 23 movies and grossed $22.55 billion globally. Spider-Man 3 and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are already filming with experienced Marvel hands, Jon Watts and Sam Raimi, respectively.
In January, Taika Waititi’s sequel Thor: Love and Thunder is starting its Australian shoot with a sprawling cast assembling for what one insider is likening to “an Avengers 5 feel,” thanks to its ensemble. The studio will have Peyton Reed back for a new Ant-Man movie in 2021 and is ending the year with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 shooting with a returning James Gunn.
With four movies and two or three series going, Marvel will be acting akin to a full-fledged studio and not an arm of a larger company. That does not include the development of new movie franchises or sequels. Marvel is also meeting with writers on its Blade reboot, which has Mahershala Ali attached and this week found hired Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin of Bob’s Burgers fame to pen Deadpool 3.
And, if the pandemic does become contained thanks to vaccines, it will release three films due out in 2021: Black Widow (May 7), Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (July 9) and Eternals (Nov. 11), with four more theatrical titles slated for 2022. Several observers believe that the unexpected break could prove to be a boon for the company.
“You now have this extra hunger after people have been used to seeing at least a couple of Marvel stories every year," notes Shawn Robbins, chief analyst at Boxoffice Pro, adding of the franchise's return: "It will be something that signals, "OK, moviegoers are coming back now. Let's reboot this industry properly.'"

Hi, thanks to your introduction post on Strange Academy I am getting back into comics for the first time in years! Now I have two questions. One of which is dumb so I'll ask that first. What time are new comic issues (for DC and Marvel) released? Every two weeks? A month? Two months? And my second question, a bit hefty, what are some of your all time favourite comics that you'd recommend to a 'beginner' comic reader? Thanks for getting me back into comics!!
Sorry it took me so long to get into this, needed some time to consider good entry points for various franchises. New issues of a specific comic book come out every month usually. While not unheard of, it is rare to have a bi-monthly, bi-weekly or weekly series.
For some good comics for a beginner reader:
Marvel:
All-New Ghost Rider - 2014 series introducing new Ghost Rider, Robbie Reyes
Ares: God of War and Dark Avengers: Ares - a miniseries about my favorite asshole in Marvel.
Annihilation - Marvel big cosmic event that shaken up that corner of cosmos for a while. Had a sequel Annihilation: Conquest and two series spinning out of it, Nova vol.4 and Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2, all worth a read.
The immortal Hulk - Current Hulk series, more in the horror vein.
The Incredible Hercules - a more humorous book on exploits of Hercules and Amadeus Cho, 7th smartest man on Earth.
Journey Into Mystery - 2011 series by Kieron Gillen focuses on Loki after he died and was brought back to life. It happens somewhat in “behind the scenes” of events taking place in other parts of Marvel Universe at the time. 2013 Young Avengers series and Al Ewing’s excellent Loki: Agent of Asgard are good follow-ups to the book and Loki’s saga.
Miles Morales: Spider-Man: I don’t know if it is a good jumping-in point on Miles, but his current series by Saladin Ahmed is absolutely excellent.
Moon Knight by Warren Ellis and Decan Shavley - six issues,
Ms. Marvel - Kamala Khan comics starting with 2014 series, 2015 relaunch and current Magnificent Ms. Marvel series.
New X-Men: Academy X - I’m not big on X-Men, but this book is mostly focused on doing its own thing and dealing with new students.
Runaways from 2003 to now, benefits greatly from being a bit removed from rest of Marvel Universe.
Superior Foes of Spider-Man - a humorous series about Spider-Man’s low-level enemies trying to put on a heist.
X-Men: Legacy vol.2 - Was recently collected as Legion: Son of X. It focuses on Legion Charles Xavier’s son.
X-23 - miniseries Innocence Lost and Target X, followed by Majorie Liu X-23 ongoing and Tom Taylor’s All-New Wolverine, it tells a pretty damn good saga of Laura Kinney and her journey.
Young Avengers - classic series is a good new start for new readers, introducing new characters to the wider MU and easily lending into introducing some concepts from the rest of Marvel to new readers.
DC
American Vampire - an out of continuity horror series.
Animal Man - an old series by Grant Morrison, but it still holds up great, it is equal parts eco-concious and mind-screwy
Batgirl from 2000 - starring Cassandra Cain, a great solo series, has somewhat os a slump in the middle, but the book still holds up great to this day.
Batwoman - Greg Rucka’s Batwoman stories in Detective Comics (collected as Batwoman: Elegy), 2011 series (before the creative team leaves) and Margueritte Bennet’s series are each very solid.
Gotham Academy - a mystery series set in Gotham’s most prestigious school, can be easily read without much of the knowledge of the rest of DC.
Gotham Central - a police procedural set in Gotham City, more regular-people view on Batman’s corner of the world.
Green Lanterns - follows two rookie Green Lantern Corps members, Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz.
New Super-Man - a Chinese government tries to create their own Superman. Much, much better than one may expect from the premise itself.
The Sandman - an all-times classic, tale of Dream of Endless, master of dreams. Has a lot of spinoffs also worth considering.
Superman Rebirth - 2016 series which reinvents Superman as a father and husband, it is a good entry point for Superman
Planetary - set in Wildstorm universe, a team of super archeologists discovers lost history of the world.
The Terrifics - a new team forming from classic characters, with its own spin on some well-known franchise.
Transmetropolitan - one of my favorite books, entirely out of continuity., a quintessential post-cyberpunk that, to Warren Ellis amusement, seems to be coming true
Wild Storm - the reboot of the Wildstorm Universe, still holds up as a standalone title.
Young Animal Titles - a number of excellent books from imprint made by Gerard Way. While flagship title Doom Patrol may require knowledge of Grant Morrison’s old run on the title, books like Mother Panic, Far Sector, Cave Carson or Shade, the Changing Girl can be read without prior knowledge

Disney Plus: Opening the Vault
Tumblr media
In less than two months, the new Disney Plus streaming service will become available.  With other services like Netflix, Hulu and HBO, is Disney Plus worth spending your hard-earned money?  Let’s take a look at the details.
Disney Plus is $7 per month or $70 per year.  This is distinctly cheaper than its primary competitor, Netflix.  As a caveat, this is only the initial price.  As more content is added over the years, the price for Disney Plus could go up.
Disney Plus will be available on iOS, Apple TV, Android, Android TV, Roku, Google Chromecast, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.  It will allow seven profiles, which means different members of your family can personalize their selections.
Disney Plus includes contents from the Walt Disney Studios, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Disney Channel, Disney XD, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographics, ABC Family, Disney Junior, and Fox.  This will focus on family-friendly content, while Hulu (which Disney now owns) will stream Disney’s more grown-up content (such as Deadpool).
If you’re looking for movies released in 2019, you won’t find them on Netflix.  Disney will be the exclusive source for streaming movies such as Lion King, Toy Story 4, and Avengers Endgame.
Because Disney now owns National Geographics and Fox, we’ll also see movies and shows on Disney Plus that aren’t what you’d typically expect to find.  Movies such as “Princess Bride” and “Sound of Music.”  Shows such as “Brain Games” and “The Simpsons.”
Rather than try to list everything here, I’ll share five things (in no particular order) that I’m really looking forward to seeing on this app:
1.       New Marvel and Star Wars shows.  In the world of Star Wars, “The Mandalorian” will follow a bounty hunter after the events of “Return of the Jedi.”  Ewan McGreggor will also reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi for a series.  In the world of Marvel, we’ll see shows featuring Loki, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and many others.  Previous shows such as “Agents of Shield” and “Daredevil” technically exist in the same universe as the films, but the characters don’t cross over.  However, these new shows will directly connect to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  In fact, majority of the lineup for Phase 4 are these shows exclusive on Disney Plus.  Missing them means you might have gaps in the storylines going into Phase 5.
2.       New documentaries.  We’ll get a new documentary series on Marvel, which will explore the cultural and historical contexts of their stories.  We’ll also get a series on the making of Frozen 2.  I’m looking forward to seeing “Imagineering Story,” which is a series looking at people involved with the creation and evolution of Disney parks.
3.       “The World According to Jeff Goldblum.”  Jeff Goldblum is one of the most curious people out there, and in this new series, he’ll look at everyday things we love...and explore the science, history, and people sides.  Things aren’t always as they seem.
4.       Reliving my childhood.   Fans of the iconic Disney Afternoon will be thrilled to find shows like Duck Tales and Goof Troop on Disney Plus.  It’s also confirmed that all 30 seasons of “The Simpsons” will be available.  I’ve grown up with “The Simpsons,” and I agree with those who list the early to mid-nineties as the golden age of the show.  I’m really excited to revisiting many of the episodes from that era.
5.       Duck Tales 2017. The first season of the rebooted series will also be available. This is particularly exciting because I’ve been waiting two years for a chance to see the show.  Their pilot episode was very impressive, and the few scattered pieces I’ve seen confirms that this show is highly thoughtful with well-developed characters.  It’s designed just as much for us who grew up on the classic show as it is for the new generation.
Not everything will be released on the first day.  Content will come out in phases.  By year five, Disney Plus is expected to have 50 series, as well as ten new movies per year.  This gives us over 700 films and over 10,000 episodes.
Is Disney Plus worth the investment?  If you’re a fan of Star Wars, Marvel, or Pixar, this streaming service is definitely worth it.  This is a rare occasion for Disney to open its vault and release (almost) all its classics.  Not only will you be able to stream your favorite movies (or shows), but there will also be a variety of new shorts and shows exclusive to the app.  If you’re a fan of Disney, you’ll definitely love Disney Plus.

How I’d Relaunch the Marvel Comics Line Proposal
This is a post I’ve actually wanted to make for awhile. So for those who don’t know, I love comics and I am openly admitting to be more Marvel leaning as they got me into comic books to begin with. That said, I have my fair share of issues with them.
One of my biggest issues with Marvel is disorganization. Unlike DC, Marvel produces a lot of books but publishes them under the same banner, Marvel Comics. Because of this, we end up having all books compared at a similar level. Which isn’t very good.
Its hard having a newer book that’s trying to build an audience and storyline when its getting compared to more established series. For instance, its obvious Doctor Voodoo isn’t going to do the same numbers as Amazing Spider-Man. But then look at DC, you have the Banner of DC comics and the Banner of Vertigo comics. A book like Swamp Thing is going to have different numbers than Batman, but it doesn’t matter as they aren’t in the same line.
So why don’t we fix that by relaunching Marvel. Now relaunching doesn’t mean rebooting everything. Its still the same universe, we’re just reorganizing it. Time to get all this disorder under control. (Disclaimer: This was inspired by Professor Thorgi’s video Let’s Relaunch Marvel)
First, some ground rules of how this’ll be dived up. As I said before, by relaunching the comics I intend to make them more easily digestible. The first is cutting down of titles. So for the purposes of this post, we’re making sure each book has only 1 title. So one X-Men, one Avengers, etc.
Second, Banners. We wanna break up Marvel Comics into different lines. Thus we can grade their sales all on the same level. We should be comparing numbers done by titles like Iron Man and Captain America separately from numbers done by books like Champions or Kate Bishop: Hawkeye. So this post will be mainly about how I’d reorganize them with banners.
Third, anthologies. So one thing that I mentioned was the lack of being able to build an audience. There are plenty of good titles that have been cancelled due to low numbers. But these books do have audiences. So why not promote these books by combining audiences while also trying to really sell that this relaunch really is a drastic change and not, “marvel is doing another relaunch... Kay...” Now when we get the anthology portion of this post, I’ll elaborate more, but for now the idea of promoting books by combining audiences.
Anyways, lets dive into how I would relaunch Marvel.
Marvel Classic: The first of our banners is actually a revival of an old banner. See there once was a time when Marvel was split into 5 different imprints. One of which was Marvel Classic, for long-time Marvel characters like the Avengers and Fantastic Four (Though not Spider-man or the X-Men as they actually got their own lines). As such, we’re reviving it with a similar idea, Marvel Classic are the flagship books for long time, older generations of readers.
Examples of Titles that could be published are obvious:
Spider-Man
Avengers
Captain Marvel
Captain America
Iron Man
Black Panther
Fantastic Four
Hulk
X-Men
Marvel NOW: Our second banner (Yes I know Marvel Now was a past Marvel branding title, I just couldn’t think of something better for this banner’s name) will be the more modern titles. Books that are about more premier superheroes and a newer generation. As well as books that regained interest generated by the popularity of films.
Examples of titles for this line are:
Ms Marvel
Champions
Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Iron Heart
Runaways
Spider-Gwen
Ant-Man: Scott Lang
Guardians of the Galaxy.
Marvel MAX: Our third banner is a revival of another older line. Now MAX has a stigma of negativity to it as it was intended to be the Marvel version of Vertigo, mature stories for an older demographic. However, MAX had become a sort of anti-Vergito as they used brasen nudity and graphic violence to shock and pander. Well, now is the time to correct those mistakes. Bring back some of Marvel’s more mature and cult stories, as well as graphic stories told maturely.
Things like:
Nextwave: Agents of Hate
Jessica Jones
Howard the Duck
Old Man Logan
Werewolf by Night
Punisher
X-Statix
Marvel Knights: Our fourth banner is, once again, another revival of an old line. Marvel Knights was actually a creative bastion when Marvel needed one back in the day, with their Kevin Smith’s Daredevil, Christopher Priest’s Black Panther, Garth Ennis’ Punisher, and Paul Jenkins’ Inhumans. This time, they’re sort of an odd duck idea for a line. A group of books that don’t quite fit in others places. Capable of taking classic characters, but taking them in more mature directions. Though not as mature as MAX may. But this would be another creative freedom outlet. So almost a more experimental line, as well as be where limited series could run out of like The Skrulls or Neil Gaiman’s Miracleman.
Books for this would be like:
Daredevil
Inhumans
She-Hulk
Namor
Luke Cage and Iron Fist
Moon Knight
Man-Thing
Marvel Age: So for our fifth banner will be bringing back Marvel Age, books for all ages. Books that could be sold to kids at book fairs and will get them interested in the market. And when I say these are books that have an audience for kids, I don’t mean watered down content for children. I mean books that respect kids and give them something of substance. As well as can be enjoyed by any adult
Books like:
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur
Squirrel Girl
Nova: Sam Alexander
Future Foundation/Power Pack
Spider-Ham
Kid Kaiju
Peni Parker (Closer based on the one from Into the Spider-verse movie and not the comic)
Marvel General Entertainment: So remember when I mentioned that marvel once split itself into 5 lines? Well, this was one of those imprints which handled licensed works like Transformers and G.I. Joe. And it would surprise you that they don’t actually have it anymore. Yeah, things like Star Wars are still published under the same banner as Iron Man. So, just keep them separate.
So this is really just where they should put titles like:
Star Wars
Conan the Barbarian
Now we are enter the Anthology portion of this post. As I said previously, a way to generate promotion is by packaging books together so that books with smaller audiences will be able to maintain title in a single book. With the option to buy trades of the individual titles. As well to help some of the lower selling titles to combine them with titles that could last individually, but would motivate someone to pick it up and attract new readers
Amazing Fantasy: Amazing Fantasy was actually the book that Spider-Man first appeared in. The idea as I said was to take titles with audiences and combine them. This anthologies audience will be for more premier characters that could fit into Marvel NOW, but aren’t able to maintain an individual title.
So this would comprised of the titles
Unstoppable Wasp
Gwenpool
Miss America
Hawkeye
Loki
Journey into Mystery: This anthology will be composed of the more weird aspects of the Marvel universe. The strange myths and super science.
This would be composed of the titles
Silver Surfer
Blue Marvel
Angela
Eternals
Weirdworld
Strange Tales: This will be where most the magic users will be compiled. Super natural stories and concepts.
These magical titles would be:
Doctor Strange
Wiccan
Hellstorm
Brother Voodoo
Mania
Tales of Suspense: Lastly in our anthologies it’ll be a compilation of darker, more street level characters
So that would mean titles like:
Blade
Black Widow
Elektra
Ghost Rider
Cloak and Dagger
Shang Chi
And that’s how I’d relaunch Marvel. I know it seems like much and its not like Marvel would ever do this. But this was something I’ve wanted to put out there and honestly I had fun making this. I do hope to at least see Marvel make some of these changes, but as of now, I’m not holding my breath. So I hope you all enjoy this, and I’ll be signing out.

Clark Kent and Ben Grimm as the Jumping off Point of their Respective Universes
So I’ve been thinking a lot about where the morality of Superhero comics have gone in the past 80 years since Action Comics 1, and I think something that’s very interesting about that is how you can see both the DC and Marvel universes having a similar progression, with Marvel simply going through the early stages much faster, and DC somewhat following behind somewhat dragging its feet, somewhat jumping in out of nowhere. But both of them start off with a similar concept: A guy who will always do the right thing.
Now ultimately, Clark Kent didn’t really start out perfect, I know that. But the interpretation of him that we all know now is the version of Superman that does things the right way every time. He doesn’t like that he can’t punch Lex Luthor out, but that wouldn’t be the right thing to do. (You can’t ignore that part of his image comes from being made more like Captain Marvel to compete with him, especially since he was eventually written by Otto Binder.) He’s one of the few Heroes who survived the Comics Code, and those were actually some of the stories where the Big Blue Boyscout is more of a dick. However, for a very long time, the most popular hero in the world is a guy who likes helping people with a smile on his face, and while he has complicated feelings about his place in the world and what his powers mean from a surprisingly early point, there is no truly Morally gray or Black action that defines our boy when he’s in character.
I feel like before I get into the Ben Grimm introduction there are a few things I should say for clarity. 1. I was named after Ben Grimm, so I have a lot of affection for him and that’ll color this little essay more than I want it to I’m sure. 2. Some people might feel that Captain America is a good fit for this idea, but I disagree. Captain America was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby for Timely Comics, and he didn’t save his company or change the way that comics were being written in the way the Fantastic Four did. 3. Marvel Comics was different from DC from the moment the Fantastic Four were first published, and that starts off the development I’m getting at.
The Fantastic Four are at their core an ensemble. They are three interesting, dynamic characters and Johnny Storm, who are a family before they’re a team. The Justice League had worked together for years, but they were still a bunch of Golden Age or Silver Age dudes (and one gal at any given time, maybe two here or there) who all acted like slightly different versions of either Superman or Batman. The Fantastic Four start off with four characters very distinct from each other, and one of them distinct from the rest of comics.
While Sue Storm became a great character, unfortunately she got the poor treatment most women got in early comics as a woman who’s trait that made her most different was that she was simply not a man. That changes, and not long after she’s introduced there are some small moments where she feels like her own character, but its not for a long time that a writer makes her someone other than a mother figure or Reed’s girlfriend/wife. Reed is interesting early on, and he develops much quicker, but at the start he reads somewhat like the other genius superheros available at DC.
Ben Grimm was something completely new. For the first time outside of a horror story, a superpower was a curse. The nicest guy in the entire world, the guy who would do the right thing and always help the people he cares about, gets turned into an ugly rock monster. What’s more, in comics to that point the thing (no pun intended) that didn’t look human, was super strong, and spoke like a bad mobster impression? Always the bad guy. Ben Grimm “Talks like dis,” but is a sweetheart who wants people to be safe. How unfair is it that a selfish kid like Johnny gets to have a power that lets him protect himself, shoot fire balls, and fly in a way similar to his company’s grandpa’s company early star? That’s the point.
Superman can do anything, and he chooses to do the right thing. The world has cursed the Thing, people are afraid of him, and he chooses to do the right thing. Both stories and both characters have a lot of nuance added on by writers joining the narrative over the years but are ultimately that simple. When Superman has the chance to kill Darkseid? He won’t. When Ben has to choose between being human again or helping save the day? That handsome Yancy street mug will have to wait. And just like Superman before him, everyone loves Ben Grimm.
Ben is a favorite of readers and writers at Marvel for years. He’s similar to Superman in the end result sure, but while Clark is your friendly smiling guy, Ben Grimm’s grumbling all the way. Yeah, he’ll save the world, but then something gets worse. What a revoltin’ development. Its new, its something that hadn’t been seen and people could relate to the guy who it felt like never got a break. So from there, the Fantastic Four are THE BOOK before another one comes along. When Thor, Hulk, Iron Man, or the Avengers as a whole show up? Sorry kids, the Fantastic Four you aint. They’ll handle Galactus, you can handle Count Nefaria. What drops the FF and Ben with readers, is a character pretty similar to him in concept but boldly original in the same way as Ben was when he showed up. Spider-Man.
Ben Grimm is my second favorite Superhero, Spidey’s my first. This isn’t the place to get into it, but just like Ben he has every bad thing that can happen to him happen, and after letting a crook run past him in his origin story, he tries to do what’s right no matter how hard it makes his life from that point on. What sets us on our path with him is when Gwen Stacey dies. Comics can be serious now, superhero comics can be emotional. Most importantly, comics can get dark.
Gwen Stacy died in 1973 and it sparked a lot of darker storylines in comics trying to follow the leader in some cases, and in others stories that were now free from scrutiny. It’s no real coincidence that Wolverine debuted in 1974. He joined the X-Men in 1975, and hated authority, loved drinking and smoking, and was a violent animal compared to Marvel’s tame roster. I love Wolverine, in fact as a disclaimer, I love every character mentioned so far in this essay. What Wolverine did however, I don’t love so much.
The careful planning and work that went into Wolverine did not go into the characters that tried to ape his style. Chris Claremont and John Bryne, and later Frank Miller all handled him with care. Your Punishers and your Ghost Riders and your Deadpools don’t have that when they’re introduced. (Punisher was introduced before Wolvie but only as a Spider-Man villain.) There’s suddenly way more guns in comics, or rather way more guns being used by “good guys”. The Anti-Hero is the new Hero. Things get so bad across the X-Men and really almost everywhere else that characters like Lobo pop up, or you have Gail Simone reinventing Deadpool so that someone can make fun of theses characters. Lobo is a parody of the badass tough guy vigilante so over the top it stops being a parody than becomes one again. Deadpool’s a character reinvented to make fun of himself.
However, all this aside, the other big shift is the graphic novel. Graphic novels were taken as a great opportunity for comics to be taken seriously by the people writing them. Most of the ones in the eighties are like that, very serious, very dark, and luckily very good. Watchmen is spectacular, The Dark Knight Returns is a very good Batman story despite being a bad Superman story, and God Loves Man Kills is a half optimistic half heart breaking story for the X-Men. Readers and critics agree dark is good for comics.
The Superman of the 40s doesn’t look normal standing next to Azreal or Jason Todd as Red Hood. Ben Grimm seems like an oddity next to Cable and Shatterstar. The good guys are seen as boring by a lot of people, and while we’re lucky that Superman hasn’t fallen to the side, it seemed like Ben Grimm was in danger of just that until a few months ago. Luckily, a lot of newer characters like Moon Girl and Ms Marvel are much brighter, and the DC Rebirth reboot has given us a lot more smiles on the page for Supes, Wonder Woman, Batman, and pretty much every hero really. The right thing might be the right story people want to read again, and that means that for comics’ big two, their moral centers might just get the credit they deserve again. And that’s a hell of a thing.

10 Lesser-Known Marvel Characters Who Should Get Their Own Disney+ Series
Disney’s D23 Expo this year brought plenty of exciting announcements, from Pixar’s new movie about the soul to the revelation that Rey will turn to the Dark Side in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Marvel Studios was also in attendance to reveal their upcoming slate of series for the Mouse House’s new streaming platform, Disney+.
RELATED: 10 Most Exciting Upcoming MCU Streaming Projects
The streaming service will be used to bring lesser-known characters from the Marvel Comics universe into the MCU. These include Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk, and more are on the way. So, here are 10 Lesser-Known Marvel Characters Who Should Get Their Own Disney+ Series.
10 Lady Sif
Tumblr media
Jaimie Alexander played Lady Sif in Thor’s solo trilogy, but the character was woefully underused. In the comics, she’s one of Asgard’s foremost badass warriors. Alexander is clearly still interested in playing the character, since she recently threw her hat in the ring to become Valkyrie’s new queen in Thor: Love and Thunder, so she’d almost certainly be up for a Disney+ series.
Such a series would be a chance to fix her MCU characterization (in other words, actually give her some stuff to do). It might have to be a prequel if it’s going to include Asgard, but it could also catch up with Sif as a lone wolf surviving as an Asgardian without a home.
9 Nova
Tumblr media
Whether it was intentional or not, the MCU has set the stage perfectly for Nova to make his debut. (Let’s be honest, it was probably intentional – this is the MCU we’re talking about.) In the comics, Richard Rider became the superhero Nova when he was the last surviving member of the Nova Corps.
Guardians of the Galaxy introduced the Nova Corps as the protectors of Xandar, then Thanos destroyed Xandar off-screen in Avengers: Infinity War, likely wiping out most of the Nova Corps. Put two and two together and what you’ve got is the perfect prologue for a streaming series (or even a movie) revolving around Nova.
8 Ironheart
Tumblr media
Robert Downey, Jr. has endorsed Ironheart as Iron Man’s replacement in the MCU. In the comics, Ironheart is the superhero alter ego of Riri Williams, a 15-year-old engineering student and wunderkind who broke into a university to design her own suit of armor and ended up getting support from Tony Stark himself.
RELATED: Marvel's Ironheart: Everything You Need To Know About Iron Man's Successor
The character was created by Brian Michael Bendis, but his initial storylines were criticized for being a white man’s inauthentic portrayal of a black teenage girl’s life. So, Marvel replaced Bendis with Eve Ewing, a black feminist sociologist and poet who has completely revitalized the character in recent years.
7 Adam Warlock
Tumblr media
The appearance of Adam Warlock in the MCU has been teased since way back in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. In one of the movie’s many mid-credits scenes, the Sovereign created an artificial being named “Adam” to destroy the Guardians. There’s a good chance that Adam will appear as a villain in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but by the end of it, he might join the team, as he has in the comics.
Adam Warlock is such a powerful and interesting character that he’ll need some room to grow on his own, so if he leaves the Guardians at the end of their threequel to enjoy his own cosmic adventures, he should get a Disney+ series. Or, perhaps such a Disney+ series could even act as a precursor to Vol. 3 and revolve around Adam’s hunt for the Guardians, since Vol. 3 has been delayed.
6 X-23
Tumblr media
It’s been reported that Marvel Studios is planning to reboot every single X-Men character apart from Deadpool, because he’s the only one left alive that fans like. But that’s not true. Fans also grew to love X-23, Wolverine’s vicious cloned daughter, played by Dafne Keen in 2017’s Logan.
Marvel should give X-23 a series on Disney+, a sort of coming-of-age story as she grows up with mutant powers in a world that marginalizes mutants, and they should keep Keen in the role if she’s interested, because she was brilliant in Logan and she’s one of today’s most promising young stars.
5 Captain Britain
Tumblr media
Simon Pegg has already thrown his hat in the ring to play Captain Britain in the MCU. We’ll be getting a Captain Britain of sorts in the MCU via the animated anthology series What If...?, as one episode will explore a hypothetical scenario in which Steve Rogers wasn’t chosen to receive the super-soldier serum and it was given to Peggy Carter instead, but this won’t really count, because it’s just that: a hypothetical scenario.
It would be fun to see the real Captain Britain from the comics get a series on Disney+ (it could still be a female version, as long as the character gets an on-screen incarnation), especially now that Captain America is out.
4 The Thunderbolts
Tumblr media
Starting with Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (who has taken on a large role in the MCU since Captain America: Civil War), the Thunderbolts emerged as a new superhero team in the wake of the Avengers’ absence before being shockingly revealed as a team of supervillains using false heroism as a front.
Later, the name was used by reformed supervillains who wanted to become heroes and redeem themselves for their past mistakes. With the Avengers being disbanded at the end of Endgame with the death of Tony Stark and the retirement of Steve Rogers, now could be the perfect time to introduce the Thunderbolts.
3 Hercules
Tumblr media
Norse mythology isn’t the only branch of mythology that Marvel has plundered for characters and storylines. They also made a superhero character out of Hercules, and he’s even been an Avenger.
In the comics, Hercules has had a fun rivalry with Thor, which would be fun to see on the big screen after Odinson loses his title and Hercules has been ingratiated into the MCU. Hercules even has his own superhero team, the aptly named “the Olympians,” so the Disney+ series could explore how he assembles this team to take on a villain that he couldn’t handle on his own.
2 Namor
Tumblr media
Namor might be best left for a villain role in the Black Panther sequel – it was certainly set up this way by the underwater earthquake mentioned by Okoye in Avengers: Endgame – but that wouldn’t do the character justice. He can be an enemy of Black Panther in the movies (since the two have an interesting dynamic as rivaling kings in the comics), but he’s still interesting enough to get his own standalone adventures in a Disney+ series.
RELATED: 10 Reasons Why Keanu Reeves Would Be The Perfect Casting For Namor
Namor is essentially Marvel’s Aquaman and his appearance in the MCU has been teased since Iron Man 2, when Atlantis appeared on a S.H.I.E.L.D. map next to Wakanda.
1 Squirrel Girl
Tumblr media
It seems like a no-brainer for Squirrel Girl to appear in the MCU. She’s a fan-favorite character who’s also absurdly powerful. Grown out of writer Will Murray’s desire to create a lighthearted superhero story to counteract Marvel’s heavier dramatic stories of the time, Doreen Green has the power to communicate with squirrels, as well as the claws, tail, and heightened sense of one.
Although these abilities might not seem like they’d make her a formidable threat, she’s actually used it to defeat some of the most ominous supervillains in the Marvel universe. She might not fit into the movies, but she’d be perfect for a half-hour comedy on Disney+.

Disney projects that rocked D23
CLOSE
Tumblr media
At D23, Disney revealed several new projects that are set to be released with its new streaming service, Disney+. Veuer’s Lenneia Batiste has more. Buzz60
Walt Disney Studios made a power statement about the future of its new streaming service Disney+ at the D23 Expo Friday.
The power-packed presentation launched with a high-energy marching band leading a song-and-dance number featuring the stars of “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.” And it never let up.
The flurry of projects that followed included major Marvel and Pixar expansion and new “Star Wars” titles (notably, confirmed plans of Ewan McGregor returning as Obi-Wan Kenobi) that had the fans delirious.
With the new streaming service starting Nov. 12, here are six shows which really popped in a diverse, formidable line-up.
‘The Mandalorian’
CLOSE
Tumblr media
‘The Mandalorian’ trailer has finally been unleashed, heading for Disney+. USA TODAY
Creator Jon Favreau finally unveiled the trailer for the “Star Wars” series set in the dangerous times following the fall of the Empire. It stars Pedro Pascal as a lone gunslinger living in a perilous, lawless world. ‘The Mandalorian’ had us with the first startling trailer image: Stormtrooper helmets on stakes. The killer premise and ensemble, which includes Carl Weathers, Gina Carano and Taika Waititi as a killer droid, promises to open up a gritty new “Star Wars” universe.
‘She-Hulk’
Tumblr media
“She-Hulk” is coming to Disney+. (Photo: null)
Marvel President Kevin Feige announced three new, compelling shows for the streaming service, including “Ms. Marvel” (about a Muslim Pakistani student joining the Marvel Universe) and the mercenary-led “Moon Knight.” But the concept of a woman Hulk (Jennifer Walters) stepping into the raging “She-Hulk” brought out audible crowd excitement, even with scant details about the series.
“She’s a lawyer and a Hulk,” said Feige. Start your dream-casting now.
‘Lady and The Tramp’
CLOSE
Tumblr media
The first trailer for Disney’s live-action “Lady and the Tramp” has arrived, featuring real dogs in a beloved story. USA TODAY
The first trailer for the live-action “Lady and the Tramp” dropped Friday featuring real dogs — with Justin Theroux voicing mutt Tramp and Tessa Thompson voicing high-class Lady. It’s pretty adorable while sticking to traditional period beats from the 1955 animated original — including a live-action, final lover’s look at the Italian restaurant. Bella. How do they make dogs look like they’re in love?
‘Lady and the Tramp’ star: Monte the dog goes from shelter to movie mutt starring role
‘Lizzie McGuire’
Tumblr media

There’s no one else who can play 13-year-old Lizzie McGuire from the Disney Channel show. So Hilary Duff is returning to the rebooted Disney+ “Lizzie McGuire” as a (now) 30-year-old millennial navigating life in New York City. She has a dream restaurant-owning boyfriend, a dream apartment in Brooklyn and a much bigger budget for shoes. But she still deals with her “alter-ego” in her head. Original series creator Terri Minsky will serve as showrunner and the D23 crowd was delirious as Duff waltzed onstage.
‘Muppets Now’
Tumblr media
The Muppets (in “Muppets Most Wanted”) are coming back with Disney streaming. (Photo: Jay Maidment, Disney)
There were few details beyond the announcement of a new unscripted series featuring the beloved Muppets with celebrity guest stars coming in 2020. But the Muppets are back. Even seeing Kermit the Frog banter with a new, fantastically annoying Joe from Legal character in a comedy clip pretending to explain the show to the D23 crowd brought back the tantalizing prospect of the return of true Muppet glory.
‘Forky Asks a Question’
Tumblr media
“Forky Asks a Question” is coming to Disney + featuring the character from “Toy Story 4.” (Photo: null)
Tony Hale will voice the Forky character who came to life, and painfully slow awareness, after his own creation in Pixar’s “Toy Story 4.” As a newly made toy he has many questions that will be featured in a series of ten, quirky short films.
“I was made from trash like two days ago, so I have a lot of questions,” Forky says in the first clip revealed at D23. His first subject: “What is money?” featuring an interview with piggy-bank Hamm (John Ratzenberger). Only Pixar.

Mahershala Ali's Blade Movie Receives Filming Update
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is officially in full-swing with mind-blowing content starting to arrive every week as the franchise's first Disney+ series WandaVision comes to an end. Not only will 2021 bring the most releases of any year in MCU history with four theatrical movies and six Disney+ shows in total, production will also be in motion for numerous entries releasing in 2022 or later.
Currently filming right now are both Hawkeye and Ms. Marvel (both releasing in late 2021), the highly anticipated Spider-Man: No Way Home for theatrical release in the same timeframe, and two early 2022 arrivals in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder. Both She-Hulk and Moon Knight will reportedly get the cameras rolling in the next few weeks, and Black Panther II is confirmed to kick off its emotional shoot this summer.
SHARPEN THE BLADE FOR LATE THIS YEAR
Both Murphy's Multiverse and ComicBook's Phase Zero Podcast are reporting that Marvel Studios' Blade is set to begin production in late 2021.
The film has Mahershala Ali attached in the titular role and Stacy Osei-Kuffour writing the script, but the movie doesn't have a set release date as of yet.
Blade came in as the curtain call during the Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, although it was the project that was the furthest out in development at the time. News on this hyped reboot has mostly been scarce, but it seems like the pieces are starting to fall into place, making this reported start date a real possibility.
Ali has been confirmed as the film's leading man for nearly two years, but Osei-Kuffour was just penciled in as the writer a few weeks ago. Marvel Studios has been actively searching for this project's behind-the-scenes leaders recently, and it seems certain that the next few months will bring more news and announcements confirming the directors and Ali's cast mates.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is on the verge of going supernatural, exploring a whole new side of the story that hasn't been touched on until now. Marvel Studios' Blade was suggested to likely be a PG-13 rated endeavor, and the early foundations for its story may already be laying themselves out early in Phase 4. With the magic and mysteries being touched on in WandaVision on Disney+, vampires could become a part of the MCU long before Maheshala Ali suits up as Eric Brooks.
Marvel Studios' new mystical endeavors will continue in full with Blade, which is now set to begin production in late 2021. It is currently speculated to take Marvel's open October 7, 2022 release slot.

New Shows Coming in 2022
Now that we discussed the new movies coming in 2022, how about a list of the new shows I am most excited about coming to television and streamers in 2022. So I present the shows I am most excited about coming that are likely coming out this year (in alphabetical order):
1899 (Netflix) - This upcoming period mystery-horror series is from the creators of the German series Dark and is high on my shows to be excited about. Not much is known about the series except a short logline provided by Netflix, but that premise is enough to hook me: “Multinational immigrants traveling from the old continent to the new encounter a nightmarish riddle aboard a second ship adrift on the open sea.“
Bel-Air (Peacock) - Normally a reboot of a beloved 1990′s sitcom wouldn’t be that interesting. However, with Bel-Air there is a twist, this show is a darker, dramatic reimagining of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. That is enough to pique my interest.
The First Lady (Showtime) - Viola Davis is Michelle Obama, Michelle Pfeiffer is Betty Ford, and Gillian Anderson is Eleanor Roosevelt in this upcoming series that focuses on the women who stood alongside American Presidents.
Halo (Paramount+) - Pablo Schreiber is Master Chief is in this adaptation of the acclaimed video game series that has been in development for a long long time.
House of the Dragon (HBO) - HBO will be returning to Seven Kingdoms of Game of Thrones this year with this upcoming prequel set 200 years before the 2011 series.
Inventing Anna (Netflix) - Shonda Rhimes is behind this upcoming mini-series starring Julia Garner as the faux-socialite Anna Delvey.
The Last of Us (HBO) - The second of two video game adaptations on this list is The Last of Us starring Pedro Pascal. The show is being developed by Neil Druckmann who worked on the video game and Craig Mazin who made the amazing HBO miniseries Chernobyl. That is a perfect recipe for success.
A League of Their Own (Amazon Prime) - This adaptation of the 1992 film will follow new characters and new storylines during the World War II-era of women’s professional baseball.
The Lord of the Rings (Amazon Prime) - Amazon spent $250 million on the rights to make a television series, combine that with a five-season commitment (wherein each season is expected to cost $100-$150 million), The Lord of the Rings series could end up costing Amazon $1 billion. This September, we find out if it was all worth it.
Moon Knight (Disney+) - There are a handful of new Marvel Studios shows expecting to come to Disney+ this year, including Ms. Marvel, Secret Invasion, and She-Hulk, but by far the one I am most expected about is Moon Knight starring Oscar Isaac as the titular hero and Ethan Hawke as an undisclosed character.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (Disney+) - Disney+ also has a couple of new Star Wars shows coming in 2022, including the Rogue One prequel Andor. But seeing Ewan McGregor returning as the exiled Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen somehow reprising the role of Darth Vader is by far the highlight of 2022 television in my opinion.
The Old Man (Hulu) - Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow star in this thriller that is an adaptation of a novel of the same name about a former intelligence officer forced back into the world he left long ago.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (Paramount+) - This new Star Trek series has the double duty of being a spin-off of Star Trek: Discovery (and follow-up to season two of that show) and prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series. Hopefully, the crew is up to the task!
Wednesday (Netflix) - Tim Burton directs this upcoming horror-comedy that follows Wednesday Addams in high school. Tim Burton and The Addams Family are a match made in heaven, so that alone puts it on this list.
Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty (HBO) - John C. Reilly is Lakers owner Jerry Buss in this upcoming sports drama about the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1980s. The show follows the “Showtime” era of the team and is based on a book titled Showtime, but since the show airs on HBO, it can’t be called Showtime, and thus it is Winning Time.
The White House Plumbers (HBO) - David Mandel directs Woody Harrelson, Justin Theroux, Domhnall Gleeson, and Lena Headey in this mini-series about the Watergate break-in.

In today's video we are covering everything you need to know about Disney's brand new streaming service, Disney Plus, we’ll be covering the cost, all the movies and TV shows to be released, bundles to save you money, and much much more so sit back and relax while we do all the work for you. Disney is launching it’s Netflix competitor November 12th of 2019. Netflix’s other major competitor, Hulu, was also purchased by Disney very recently, and this is huge. A Disney and Hulu combination allows you to bundle the streaming services together into one package. The package also includes ESPN+. Which means you get Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ all for $13 a month, which is $5 cheaper than paying for all of the services separately. So movies, the biggest titles coming to Disney+ include: Star Wars Episode 9, Avengers Endgame, Frozen 2, Toy Story 4, the live action Lion King, 7,000 episodes of TV, which includes every episode of the Simpsons, a property Disney recently acquired, and 400 movies all at launch. Almost every movie Disney has ever made will be brought over to Disney Plus. Which means the entire “Disney Vault” will be at your fingertips. And If you’re curious about all the movies Disney will be making in the next couple years, I made a quick video listing every movie Disney has in the works, it It just popped up in the top right corner, so make sure you check that out after this video. With that, I am also assuming all future Disney projects will also be added to the Disney+ catalog. And I am curious to know how that will affect Disney at the box office. Disney makes billions of dollars from every movie they release and I'm curious to know if people will stop going to the theater, and just watch the movie on Disney+ instead. So let me know which you would choose would you watch in a theater or would you watch at home? I would love to know. Countless original movies and TV shows are also in the works for Disney Plus, mostly of the Star Wars, and Marvel Varieties, with some other interesting reboots and mini series. To name a few of the originals coming to Disney Plus we have, Falcon and Winter Soldier an Avengers spin off, WandaVision, Loki, Star Wars The Clone Wars, Hawkeye, an Obi-Won Kenobi miniseries, moon knight, and she hulk. If you’re a Marvel or Star Wars fan you will be needing Disney Plus and we will keep an updated list on all of the new shows and series coming to Disney Plus in the description as well as videos covering all the latest Disney News and movies, so subscribe to make sure you don’t miss anything. There is so much going on in the world of Disney entertainment. On the flip side if you’re a parent who has young children... Disney Plus will remain a completely family friendly platform. With any violent or R rated content being added to Hulu’s library rather than going to the main Disney Plus service. Other family friendly spinoffs and reboots include: Home Alone, a Phinese and Ferb Movie, Diary of the Wimpy Kid Reboot, Monsters At Work, an exclusive Forky Asks A Question series, Ms. Marvel, and a 12 episode series starring Jeff Goldblum called “An extraordinary look at Ordinary Things. Again, full list in the description along some national geographic content and cooking shows. Disney Plus will also allow up to four streams at once on up to 10 devices and can be used with the following: Apple TV, Chromecast, Android TV, Playstation, Xbox, and Roku. Now, to answer the question everyone is wanting to know. Will Disney Plus flop? That depends on your definition of a flop. The largest streaming service in the world, Netflix, loses hundreds of millions of dollars a year to purchase and produce content, and has never made money. Is it a flop? I don’t think so. And I feel the same way about Disney Plus. #disneynews #d23expo #disney+ via YouTube https://youtu.be/vl8SQ9-fn7A

Moon Knight, fuck yeah. She-Hulk, IT’S ABOUT DAMN TIME. I am so excited for that. Ms. Marvel, I always assumed they’d wait a good deal longer, maybe when they do Sam as Nova too, and others as well to eventually do a Champions show/film. So this is really unexpected to me. Still, love the character. And if these D+ shows are considered films in terms of connectivity than that means this will be the first time Inhumans will be mentioned over on that side of the MCU. Which is neat. GODS imagine if Inhumans wasn’t rushed out for no freaking reason the way it was. Imagine an Inhumans D+ show now. Connected to the films. IMAGINE IF THEY BRING THEM BACK FOR MS. MARVEL THOUGH. I just really want those characters back in the MCU properly hahah.
Also Kit as Moon Knight, fuck yeah if that’s true. Can’t imagine who else he’d be playing. Still can’t believe MK is happening, but it makes sense after Blade was announced. BUT JEN’S FINALLY COMING TO THE MCU I am so happy about that fuck yeah. Literally the only thing that could make me happier is if Jessica was coming to the MCU too. Like fuck I don’t think there’s a character I want more in there already hahah.
Also by the time She-Hulk comes out they may be able to use MATT MURDOCK AGAIN EDFBKJSDBIJF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That would be dope. I really fucking hope they bring those characters back. DD S4 but set all these years later, soft reboot type of thing if you must. Same with Jess, Luke, Danny and Frank (although like I’ve said it does suck Luke & Danny’s storylines didn’t wrap up but oh well). Even if most are in one show, Defenders or HfH or Mighty Avengers like whatever. Just bring them characters back.
Still really shocked by Ms. Marvel, fully expected her to be in the MCU much later on. Now I’m really hoping a Nova film is gonna be coming out with FF & X-Men in a few years. With both Sam and Richard cause why not. I expected Sam to be much later on as well, but with what happened in IW Rider seemed likely to happen soon. Honestly biggest surprise that it wasn’t announced at SDCC, even as just a ‘in development’ thing like CM2, BP2, FF and XM. Still even if it’s years from now, if it just opens with the decimation, oh boy gonna give me chills.
also I wonder what happened to New Warriors? Like was that ever filmed? ALso like I keep forgetting those two other shows coming next yeah on Hulu maybe? Which is weird. Because with AoS ending and Runaways and C&D probably ending soon, you’d think they’d start making stuff just in the films and D+ shows. So everything can be more connected. Hmmm. Still Ghost Rider woooo!!
anyway these next couple years are gonna be insane for the MCU. Avengers 5 is gonna be SO DOPE hahah.

All Of The MCU's Upcoming Disney+ Series, Explained | ScreenRant
While Netflix’s Marvel series claimed to tie into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the upcoming series on Disney’s own streaming service Disney+ actually will. They’ll have direct ties to the events of the movies and the movies will have direct ties to the events of the Disney+ series. Marvel Studios’ panel at this year’s Comic-Con brought us more information about the shows that we already knew were coming to Disney+, while Disney’s D23 Expo over the past few days has brought us even more exciting announcements about the shows we didn’t know were coming to Disney+.
RELATED: Every Confirmed Upcoming MCU Project, Ranked By Fans' Excitement
Here are all of the MCU’s upcoming Disney+ series, explained.
8 The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Tumblr media
They began as adversaries in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but Steve Rogers’ two sidekicks, Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, are now teaming up for their own Disney+ series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. We’ll see Sam as he adjusts to life as the new Captain America and Bucky as he continues to shake his Hydra brainwashing and strive to do the right thing.
A handful of cast members from Captain America: Civil War – including Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter (Peggy’s niece who dated Steve for a while) and Daniel Brühl as Helmut Zemo – have signed on to reprise their roles in the show. This one will premiere first, in late 2020, and it’ll have six episodes.
7 WandaVision
Tumblr media
Wanda Maximoff and the Vision have, until now, been one of the most boring couples in the MCU. However, their Disney+ series WandaVision looks set to fix that. Captain Marvel co-writer Jac Schaeffer has been brought on as the series’ showrunner and it’s been described as a 50/50 split of Dick Van Dyke Show-style sitcom (complete with a nosy neighbor character) and typical Marvel spectacle.
The show will tie in directly with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will be a horror movie that sees Scarlet Witch join the Sorcerer Supreme, and it will also somehow have to explain how Vision comes back to life after he was killed for the Mind Stone in Avengers: Infinity War.
6 Ms. Marvel
Tumblr media
Most of the characters that get adapted for the MCU have been around for decades, like Captain America or Iron Man, but Ms. Marvel – or, rather, Kamala Khan, the version of Ms. Marvel that’s getting a series on Disney+ – has only been around since 2013. That’s a testament to how quickly this character struck a chord with comic book readers – even Barack Obama is a fan!
RELATED: Disney+: 10 Things You Should Know About Ms. Marvel
Kamala is notable for being the first Muslim superhero to get their own Marvel Comics series. She lives in New Jersey, she idolizes Carol Danvers, and she gets shapeshifting powers from her Inhuman genes (proving the MCU will still acknowledge the Inhumans and possibly reboot them following that dreadful Hulu series).
5 What If...?
Tumblr media
So far, the Disney+ shows in the MCU (at least the ones that have announced their episode orders) will all consist of six episodes, except for What If...?, which will include a relatively whopping 23 episodes. Taken from the comic series of the same name, What If...? will explore hypothetical scenarios and see them play out.
Whereas the comics could take a concept as random as “What if Spider-Man joined the Fantastic Four?,” the Disney+ adaptation – which will be animated, by the way – will explore scenarios specifically drawn from the movies of the Infinity Saga (that’s why there’s 23 episodes: one episode per movie), and most of the A-list actors from the films are set to reprise their roles. A Watcher played by Jeffrey Wright will act as the sort of Rod Serling narrator of this anthology series.
4 Moon Knight
Tumblr media
Kevin Feige has been promising to find a place for Moon Knight in the MCU for a while, so Marvel fans were ecstatic when this series was announced. Moon Knight is the superhero alter ego of Marc Spector, a mercenary who got possessed by the Egyptian moon god after being left for dead in a temple containing his spirit.
He gave up being a mercenary, invested his money, got rich, and adopted various personas (a chauvinistic millionaire persona to keep up appearances, a cab driver persona to keep an eye on street crime etc.), all the while moonlighting as the masked vigilante Moon Knight.
3 Hawkeye
Tumblr media
When it was first announced that Hawkeye would be getting his own show on Disney+, some fans were skeptical. Kevin Smith, in particular, was vocal about his disdain for the idea. However, it won’t be what it sounds like. This isn’t just a show about a guy with a bow and arrow and a family out in the countryside. Instead, it’ll tell the story of Clint Barton training Kate Bishop to take on the “Hawkeye” mantle and replace him.
When the Endgame trailers showed Clint training a young girl, some fans suspected it was Kate. It turned out to be his daughter Lila, but Kate is still on the way to the MCU.
2 She-Hulk

Some fans have criticized the announcement of the She-Hulk series, with some calling it “pandering” to female viewers or an attempt to “squeeze out” the male heroes. But those fans fail to realize that the She-Hulk has been around in the comics for decades, and also, just because she’s getting her own series, it doesn’t mean Bruce Banner is getting squeezed out.

They co-exist. In fact, She-Hulk is Bruce Banner’s cousin. She’s a lawyer named Jen Walters who gets involved in a near-fatal shooting incident, necessitating a blood transfusion. Bruce provides the blood, but since it’s infected with gamma radiation, she assumes his Hulk-out powers.
1 Loki

Although Loki was “permanently” killed in Avengers: Infinity War, he managed to sneak back into the fold in Avengers: Endgame, because Earth’s mightiest heroes went back in time to the Battle of New York to steal three Infinity Stones, Tony Stark dropped one (the Space Stone), and Loki grabbed it and disappeared into an alternate timeline. His Disney+ series, which will consist of six episodes and premiere in early 2021, will follow this version of Loki and what he gets up to.
This won’t be the heroic version of Loki who redeemed himself in Thor: Ragnarok; this is the villainous version under Thanos’ thumb.

Marvel's Phase 5 Doesn't Have Any NEW Characters Right Now
Tumblr media
Marvel's Phase 5 won't introduce any new characters – for now, at least. The first wave of MCU films, collectively known as the Infinity Saga, reached its highest point with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, with Spider-Man: Far From Home closing Phase 3 and the saga. Now, Marvel Studios is preparing for the highly anticipated Phase 4, but what about Phase 5?
Phase 4 was announced during Marvel Studios’ panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, but there were no announcements about Phase 5. However, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige did tease some of the projects currently in development, and while he didn’t say in which phase they’ll be included, the safest bet is that they will be part of Phase 5. If that’s the case, then Marvel’s Phase 5 won’t have any characters that haven’t been introduced before.

Marvel introduced new characters on each of the phases from the Infinity Saga. Phase 1 was full of new faces, and Phase 2 saw the introduction of the Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man, as well as Sam Wilson aka Falcon and Bucky Barnes as the Winter Soldier in Captain America: Winter Soldier, and Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Phase 3 witnessed the arrival of Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel, with the Wasp joining the fun in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Phase 4 will introduce the Eternals and Shang-Chi, as well as She-Hulk, Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel on Disney+ but the projects teased for Phase 5 are mostly reboots and sequels, essentially bringing no new characters to the mix.
Tumblr media
Said projects are the reboots of Blade, Fantastic Four, and X-Men, along with the sequels Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Captain Marvel 2, and Black Panther 2. Of course, this can change at any moment, and some of these titles could be pushed to Phase 6 (like X-Men), and others could be added, so Phase 5 won’t be packed with reboots and sequels – and even if it is, they would most likely include new characters that will stick around for the rest of the phases, very much like Falcon and Wasp have done, just to name some.
There are still a lot of titles – both films and TV series – that Marvel hasn’t revealed yet, so it’s very possible that MCU Phase 5 will introduce new characters. However, if they choose not to, the addition of familiar faces like Blade, the Fantastic 4, and the X-Men to the MCU are exciting and interesting enough that it won’t matter if they are reboots of characters that have been adapted to the big screen before.
