For the AU ask game, what about a roleswap between Izuku and All might?
Fun fact: a role swap does not necessarily mean an age swap. It really depends on what roles are being swapped.
1- The Symbol of Peace, Dekiru, has been the Number One Hero for a few decades. Happy, bright, and always moving, his smile is the only part of him not covered by his lucky green rabbit costume. Toshinori was a few years out of college when he was rescued in Dekiru's debut, and sometimes when he's sad or needs motivation, he goes back and watches videos of it. Which is why what he's seeing is impossible:
2- Dekiru's mask torn off, revealing a child's face, still round and freckled even with the pale skin and dark eye bags. Toshinori would think he was just a kid cosplaying the hero, except that kid definitely just saved his life from the villain now knocked against the wall, and even as the kid is passed out on the ground too, a thin layer of smoke is flowing from the neck of his costume, trying to obscure his face, too late. When Toshinori gets closer, black tendrils flip out from his arms and stand threatening over him. Toshinori holds up his hands, "I just need to check your pulse and airway" and he's allowed closer to do that. The kid wakes a few minutes later, and in a crack of green lightning, they're dashed away to the roof of a nearby building, the kid panting. Toshinori asks what's wrong, how can he help?
3- Dekiru sighs, and then tells Toshinori everything. He was created in a lab by a villain trying to get a very specific quirk. He couldn't wait however long it took babies to manifest, and he didn't want to deal with adults, so Dekiru has always been a child. But even then, the villain would not get the quirk he wanted. Dekiru escaped with some help- don't ask- made pro hero, made number one hero, and went and killed that villain a few years ago. However, doing so weakened him- he used to only need one hour of sleep a day to reset and get 23 of quirk usage and crime fighting. Now he only gets two hours of energy from each hour spent asleep, though he really does try to push it. Hence, just passing out now. He's swaying on his feet now, actually. Toshinori offers to carry him to his agency- he could throw his bright yellow suit jacket over the kid and carry him on his back, without the mask no one would realize who he was, just assume he's taking his kid home. Dekiru says it's fine, actually, and flies them both off the roof- only to fall the last few feet. Bright red, he agrees, though he tries to use float to be as light as possible as Toshinori's back. Not that it's needed, the man isn't as fit as he was when he was younger, but he's still plenty tall and strong.
4- except, ah ha, you know how they kinda left the villain from earlier there? Whopsie attack number two a few minutes later, and Toshi just puts Dekiru down behind him and grabs a pipe to fight back with. With the villain defeated, Dekiru looks up at Toshinori, and asks if he wants his quirk. He'd make a great hero, and probably would be able to do more with it than Dekiru can, since he'll only need to rest more and more over time. Toshinori accepts, walks Dekiru back to his agency, and gets a number to talk about it later.
5- later, Toshinori asks what will happen to Dekiru when he gives up his quirk. The kid is evasive, and Toshinori is pretty sure he'll lose his repowering speed even more until it goes away. He asks if Dekiru has ever done anything besides sleep and fight. Dekiru hasn't, and Toshinori ties his acceptance of the quirk to the fact that Dekiru has to gain something too. A normal life, friends, school, something. Toshinori suggests UA- they changed their rule to allow quirkless students, so Dekiru could get his license that way and prepare using support gear, have a second run at a real career and life instead of giving it up all to Toshinori. Dekiru admits that Nedzu was one of his fellow lab rats kept by the villain and would probably be all too excited to approve of this, but don't expect not to end up owing Nedzu a favor after this. So, Toshinori begins training physically again, this time to receive a quirk, and Dekiru begins studying, since he never needed school before and has several years to catch up on if he's going to be ready for high school in a months. Toshinori gains a provisional licence in the winter and can get a full one after a year at an agency, which Nedzu insists be UA. After sending Dekiru off to the entrance exam with a good luck and double checking all his support gear, Toshinori gets invited to watch, and almost has a heart attack when Nedzu stamps "Accepted" on the paperwork as Dekiru dismantles a giant robot, sliding the stack over so that he can see that on the top of the boy's form, his name is listed as "Midorya Izuku" and for emergency contact, "Yagi Toshinori (Uncle, legal guardian)"

Hi, I already made a post about this but I decided to make a more elaborate post on the subject
as we know after failing to steal One For All from Banjo and En, All for one realized that he would need a greater will than the user and his predecessors to steal the OFA, as he could not, he proceeded to find a Suitable Successor/Receptacle with enough will to steal the One for all
Due to the Connection with All Might, the Shimura family was the main sieve of All for one, but it was not the only one, as we know Garaki had several Orphanages and All for one probably Evaluated and tested possible Vessels there, including Number Six
Tumblr media
This shows that even though he was working at Tenko, he was never the Only Possibility, because that doesn't suit someone who is always planning all the variables.
Tumblr media
but he didn't limit it to Garaki or Shimuras, as shown with his experiment with Touya Todoroki
Tumblr media
as All for one was coincidentally already at the mountain that day, it is possible that he used "Forced Activation" to cause the Fire, These three Shigaraki, Dabi and Number Six all have their hatred shaped based on some kind of heroic obsession.
What if this was also the case for Izuku Midoriya, but perhaps this would be a slightly more complex Experiment because of this because of this he was secondary, it would be an even more ambitious Vessel, since All for one would play a little with the Quirk Singularity, and your own genetics by having a child with someone from the fourth generation, the first generation that demonstrated the concrete Signs
Tumblr media
the goal was not only to create an All for one with the ability to Hold the complex Quirks of the future, but also combined with Inko's Quirk it would be able to Steal Quirks without the need for direct touch, as it is already difficult to copy the All for one in a perfect and functional way, it is impossible to create something even more powerful in the laboratory
to avoid attracting attention All for one blocked his son's Quirk at birth, just as he removed the Tenko factor
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just as he encouraged heroic desires in Number Six and Shigaraki, the same would be done with Izuku, being from birth imbued with heroism and All Might, all so that when he saw himself Quirkless, society and reality would crush that dream, transformed into hatred and resentment, creating the will necessary to Steal One For All, he knew Izuku would be bullied (Maybe he even encouraged this behavior)
In order for the child to be monitored more closely and by a specialist, All for one asked The Tsubasa Family (Garaki's pseudonym) to move close to where he placed the Midoriyas
Tumblr media
interestingly Koga (AFO Construction Site) Musutafu and Jakku Hospital then connected in a triangle close to each other, for easy accessibility to AFO and Garaki
Tumblr media
and both families knew each other, little Tsubasa played with Izuku and Katsuki, and Izuku's mother knew Tsubasa's mother, probably that's why they went to Garaki since the families were already friends
Tumblr media
Tsubasa was eventually transformed into Nomu for reasons currently unknown.
However, the Bullying did not have the expected effect and did not generate in Izuku the hatred and resentment that AFO wanted and neededIzuku was too good, he didn't create a grudge, he didn't get that hatred for society that Tomura got, which made Shigaraki Tomura the suitable Vessel for All for one, which made all for one leave this family adventure aside and focus on Tomura, leaving an automatic network sending money under the banner of a "Hisashi working overseas"
Maybe the reason AFO categorizes Izuku as Useless, and criticizes Yoichi for trusting him with the OFA is because he didn't become a Suitable Vessel and didn't live up to expectations, almost a parallel to Dabi, right?
Maybe he left it to use Izuku's Quirk when it was really necessary in the future

The Missing Ingredient
Tumblr media
Tonight I was casually rereading the chapters that are about to be adapted in the anime when something hit me, and now I have to talk about it ASAP even if it’s not fully fleshed out. You’re getting insomniac-Lin this time, folks.
So. Chapter 304, the one where Izuku finally gets to speak with the vestiges while he’s unconscious in the hospital, has bugged me since the day it came out. I couldn’t articulate it, but something about the way OFA was explained felt like conjecture, or like it was made up on the fly. Idk, it just seemed kinda weak. The detail that I think gets overlooked is that this “lore” is, in fact, conjecture. All Might’s, specifically. It’s his research and logical assumption that led to the conclusion that quirkless people are the only ones able to handle OFA. But we can and should consider the explanation given in 304, that whole business with the overflowing chalices, to be unreliable narration. It is simply a somewhat educated guess.
Like I said, I’ve thought this for a while, but I wasn’t able to get any further with it. Tonight, I went over it again, and I asked myself: other than the fact that All Might was quirkless, what else makes him different from his predecessors? All Might specifically compared himself to the 4th, the one who died of old age, so I did the same. Well… the only other thing about the 4th that stands out is that he spent his life totally alone. This fact is emphasized clearly, and yet, it’s significance is hiding in plain sight: what if the isolation is what killed him?
Thematically, this story has established the dangers and damaging effects of isolation many times, from All Might’s lonely career, to the Todoroki family’s dysfunction, to society’s abandonment of the villains, to Izuku’s misadventures as a solo act. I could go on, but the point is, we are led to see that people become their worst selves when they are alone. Horikoshi has drilled this idea so deeply into the way I analyze bnha that I now look at the 4th and see that he epitomizes the flaw of self-isolation. He kept well hidden and he devoted himself to training, but in the end it wasn’t enough. What is enough? Why is Yagi Toshinori still alive to this day despite the fate Night Eye saw for him? Unless you believe he’s still bound to die, which I don’t, then there’s one simple reason: Izuku. It wasn’t only All Might who changed Izuku’s life, but also the other way around. Because of Izuku, Toshinori gradually regained his sense of purpose and drive, his very will to keep living even when “All Might” was long gone. Because of their bond, he is given the gift of a life beyond passing the torch of OFA. That in itself is something no previous OFA user has ever had before. THAT, if you ask me, is what sets him apart. So what does that say about OFA?
Let’s backtrack for a second. Chapter 304 also directly states that OFA drastically changed about four months prior:
Tumblr media
I think we can accept this as reality because it’s just an observation, BUT. What’s odd is it’s left without a “why.” As in, why did it change? Was it simply the “right time?” Was there a trigger? Was it a milestone of Izuku’s strength? No definitive explanation is offered. I decided to look back on “four months ago” and see if I could pick up on anything. Of course it’s referring to when Izuku first had a vision of his predecessors in a dream, and when he unlocked blackwhip—but again, no one knew “why now?” I found that the progress made in this arc is actually nicely summarized in chapter 257:
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Here we see that Izuku finally feels like he has a place in the world and a true connection with people he cares about, specifically with Toshinori and Katsuki. Incidentally, this is also the chapter where we learn that the previous OFA users all died young, and it ends with Toshinori talking about what it means for him to keep living. It’s no longer about “helping” in the way he used to as a hero, but just being there for others as a person. So the growth of OFA coincides with Izuku’s developing relationships.
The logical assumption that I’m now going to make is that Toshi’s consciousness in the OFA realm exists because of the connection he forged with Izuku. His fire-y spectral presence is not a vestige at all, not even remotely the same thing as the other previous users, which are only there because of their quirk factors. They are more like memories of people, whereas Toshi’s is a manifestation of a living soul. Still, we would be led to assume it only forms within OFA because Toshinori himself once had the quirk. However…
Tumblr media
Katsuki is involved now too. And I don’t think we can claim he is a previous OFA user since Heroes Rising is only loosely canon and the transfer was never completed anyway. Rather, like Toshinori, Katsuki is a deeply important person in Izuku’s life, and that apparently is enough. Since Toshinori normally has a slight psychic connection to his OFA manifestation, my guess is Katsuki also had this vague sort of sense, and maybe a ghostly manifestation of his own, but in his current near-death state, that signal is strengthened to the point where he is fully aware and present inside OFA. As for the reason he’s in a separate setting to the vestiges, and Toshinori’s manifestation is also there, it’s like a Venn diagram. The previous users are in one place, living people closest to Izuku are in another, and Ghost Toshi can go between them because he is both, the overlap of the Venn diagram. Regardless of these technical details though, I think the clues point to the idea that OFA grows from and is meant to be used by someone who is interdependent and has supportive relationships, while isolation causes it to behave like a parasite. The concept also lends itself well to OFA affecting/providing power to others, namely Katsuki, if one is so inclined to those theories. Where I’m at right now, I just think OFA and its wielder have finally gained something they’ve been missing all along. But Izuku still has to fully embrace that.

MHA 413 leak reactions
ALL MIIIIIIIIGHT!!! HE CAN SEE THE AFO-OFA RESONANCE!! He and Tomura are both seeing Star!!! Also, I’m glad he got one small vestige interaction with Star.
(But at the same time I’m hoping this is it for Star in the endgame, just as we had Nagant deliver a few critical shots from the hospital roof and that was it.)
Tomura has reinforced his heart/spirit, wrapping Tenko in walls of hands. He thinks that’s made him stronger, but it’s really the same hands AFO used to control him. Luckily, there’s a crack in those walls…
Kudou’s plan is to force OFA on to Shigaraki, since OFA can be forcibly offloaded, like a box of chocolates. Or, if not all of OFA, Kudou will at least force himself into Shigaraki in order for Izuku to save Shigaraki. (Yes, I know how that sounds….)
Tumblr media
Creepy overtones aside, I do like the setup. Our heroes have to break the walls associated with AFO to open the crack enough to save Tenko. But forcing a quirk into Shigaraki to change him and make him more “acceptable” also sounds like something AFO would do. Are we the baddies?
En says no, don’t. He’s said 2 sentences the whole manga but the last two chapters he’s been panic-rambling….but then En changes his mind. He says if they’re gonna give someone away, make it him. He’s willing to make the sacrifice. Especially since Smokescreen doesn’t work against the Search quirk OR the AFO-OFA resonance.
Kudou says no, it has to be him because his quirk factor is exhausted. If he’s transferred, his exhaustion will transfer and any attempt by Tomura to use Gearshift will cause massive recoil (worse than the breathlessness Izuku is experiencing).
Bruce (still can’t get over that name) agrees with En. Banjo has nothing to say for once — I guess the loss of Fourth, his predecessor, did something to him. Nana steps in to say Izuku sees OFA as a treasure from his favorite hero, and excuse me I have something in my eye.
AND IT’S DECIDED: KUDOU WAS VOTED OFF THE ISLAND!!! Izuku agrees to send him to Tomura, and Kudou says his goodbyes by telling Banjo and Yoichi to protect Izuku Midoriya (not Ninth). Of course, Yoichi can’t let go of Kudou without a little flirting. My hero, sigh.
Despite the heroic swooning inside OFA, on the outside Izuku uses Blackwhip to tear off Shigaraki’s arm. Shigaraki tells Izuku he doesn’t look like a hero. Which, I mean… generally one doesn’t try to save a person by dismembering them. Or forcing a quirk into them, which was one of AFO’s moves.
Break next week and good for Horikoshi. I’m sure he’s not actually resting and is instead working on the anime and the new movie, so if he needs time to finish the manga the way he wants then I support that 100%. TAKE THEM BREAKS!

Hey, weird comparison might be a stretch
Okay angy-grrr (yes I’m name dropping you and I’m not sorry <3333) I think made a comment a while ago about how this whole thing between Afo and Yoichi felt incestual, and I’d be inclined to agree.
However, however however however, I do have a few bits of commentary on that sentiment. Specifically in relationships to this scene specifically.
Tumblr media
And, alright, no this is not some bs like “pro incest” or whatever, you can talk about topics that are taboo and not necessarily agree with them. I understand that I’m a shipper but I’m inclined to follow my nose where it leads, and my nose says here. So.
We’ve established a lot that the kanji horikoshi used when Izuku says “Give him back!” Is very possessive. Like an ownership over an item.
Okay, because Izuku and afo share one very weird trait—possessiveness. And for literally a month I’ve written and rewritten a post about how I just can’t get behind the idea of Katsuki paralleling afo, because it just doesn’t fucking make sense.
What is it telling us? That Katsuki has become a better person? We already KNEW THAT. The Kudou parallel says something, it says that Katsuki rises ABOVE the fate of the OFA predecessor because he and Izuku accepted their hearts.
Not only that but what is it exactly that we’re paralleling? Afo is defined by ownership (an Izuku trait), an unreliable narrator (also an Izuku trait)—in my opinion, horikoshi isn’t that simply Willy Nilly about parallels. It’s not about shipping to me rn, I’m literally comparing him to Izuku and how Izuku obsesses over Katsuki, IT JUST DOESNT MAKE SENSE.
Besides, wouldn’t this parallel be made significantly earlier, when Katsuki was still acting like an asshole? The kudou parallel was made literally from the start of his introduction, just because he looked so much like him. We didn’t know why this was the case, theories were thrown, and we’re only being told NOW why this parallel exists. But it was built, very carefully, and served a purpose.
And, to add onto this parallel of at the very least afo and Izuku, the portal is very similar to the floating hand.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Especially with the reminder that Katsuki was taken away by dabis hand on his neck (hands always have symbolism in this series after all, it always has a purpose)
If someone, anyone really, could show me some genuine evidence of afo and Katsuki parallels that isn’t just “Katsuki was selfish about Izuku when they were younger” then by all means
But to me, along with the fact that Katsuki called himself IZUKUS NICKNAME, right before a chapter where afo talks about NAMING YOICHI, ummmmmmmm… I gotta say. Things ain’t looking so great in that evidence department. I guess you could argue that Katsuki did the same thing with deku, but deku hasn’t even been said these past few chapters and Kacchan has so????? Idk.
Anyway, this weird overly attached, incestual, codependent relationship is really fascinating to me. I’m not so inclined to say that Izuku and afo are the same since they very obviously aren’t, izuku is just toxic in his silly goofy ways, but I think it’s an interesting thing to point out.
It almost feels like a “fuck you” to people who have been saying Katsuki and Izuku act like brothers for years. Maybe like Horikoshi is saying, “well I guess if they’re brothers they’re incestual too :)”
And that’s gotta be the biggest power move I’ve ever seen. “Oh you wanna read this relationship in that light? How about I show you what that light would look like if it were true :)” AND LIKE. WOW.
I know anime is not new to incest, but I don’t think this is the “random incest for funsies” type of incest, I think this is the incest built off of actually talking about the taboo. The weird. The not so great things we’ve done as humanity, but that exist anyway. Because mha WANTS to talk about the taboo, things we find morally wrong and therefore don’t belong in our stories, but that just makes them all the more incomprehensible were it to be happen in the real world. Art is made to talk about the stories we wish remained unfinished.

MHA 2.14 - Bizarre! Gran Torino Appears - part 3
This is my first time watching this show so no spoilers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The thought process of a high school boy. Go jumpy jump = be cool. He is such a doofus here. I love him.
Tumblr media
Deku’s parkour game still need a lot of work. Something that I love about shonen anime in general is the time the story gives to training. The hero’s are always shown putting in the hard work to earn their strength.
Tumblr media
Me as f*ck. Every morning of my life as I drag myself out of bed feeling busted. However, Deku’s exhaustion is more valid since he has been hardcore parkour-ing all night long. Who knew that being like a bouncy ball would be the key to being the next #1 hero.
Tumblr media
This had me snickering. I know it is not Gran Tostito’s intention, but my dirty mind cannot help it. I mean, All Might’s big buff body sure is a redeeming feature. And Deku’s face is too funny, like he can’t process All Might having flaws.
Tumblr media
All Might’s predecessor? I NEED TO KNOW MORE RIGHT NOW! MHA loves to tease with little hints and then it makes you wait to find out. People have told me that I have to wait multiple seasons to learn certain things and I am DYING. I better not have to wait too long to get info on the predecessor.
Tumblr media
This is it. His brain finally broke from the pressure. It was only a matter of time. RIP to Deku’s brain. F in the chat for Deku’s broken lil’ noggin. This is what lack of sleep and too much parkour gets you.
Tumblr media
Ha! I have no comments this is just funny as hell. This show has pretty great humor in general. When this show was recommended to me initially I was told that it has fun characters and action, but no one told me that the comedy beats are pure fire.
Tumblr media
Baby is having a breakthrough moment. He has been using OFA like a battering ram, just brute force, which works well for All Might, but it does not suit Deku’s abilities as much.
Tumblr media
I am EXCITE! Deku has so much creative intelligence and I feel like him using OFA more strategically will have amazing results. I cannot wait to see how he develops his quirk if he internalizes the power as his own and develops his personal style. Not just copying All Might.

For your ask game. What do you see happening in a world where the Fourth OFA User unlocks the ability to speak to the vestiges? He's the guy who explicitly trained the quirk to increase its power for future users and thus the most likely to unlock its secrets. Within a month of getting the quirk, the guy's meditating under a waterfall and now he's in a discord call with the boys, and so will the future users.
I love this concept!
This happened before Hikage met Banjo, so he was really lonely and missed his predecessors. He didn't see the point in meditating under a waterfall, but he remembered how every manga Yoichi liked had a scene like that, so he decided to try it out to honor him. The cool water and white noise were actually really comforting since it also happened to be summer, and next thing you know, he fell asleep and ended up in the void. He thought he was dreaming at first, especially because he was only there for a few seconds before he woke up. Except it kept happening and he realized that OFA must stockpile not only strength, but memories. Eventually, he was able to stay there for a full 8 hours, but no matter how hard he tried, it could only happen when he was asleep. He died in his sleep, so when his body finally gave out, it felt as if he never had to wake up from a wonderful dream. (It was a little less wonderful when the first three got all lovey-dovey and he had to fourth wheel)
Banjo didn't really believe that Hikage could see his predecessors. He just thought that was a product of imagination from his loneliness (in fact, that was part of why he wanted to be his friend so badly in the first place, because he was worried about his mental stability). Imagine his surprise when he falls asleep the night after Hikage dies and sees his friend again. He's so freaked out he wakes up. Then he remembers what Hikage told him and decides to try and go to sleep again. It works, and for up to 10 hours, he had to deal with Hikage going "I told you so!". But even so, he was happy to see him and meet the three he talked about so much. And when he died, Hikage was so happy that he would no longer have to fourth wheel.
En, unfortunately, did not get to live long. He had fun talking to Banjo and meeting that weird forest guy he always talked about, but just a few months after getting OFA, he was killed. He was only able to extend the dream time to 11 hours, but his successor would reach new heights.
Nana got a longer run and along with seeing them in her dreams, could hear their voices in her head. Not always since they had to choose to speak to her and if she tried to hear them when they weren't speaking, all she would hear was static. At first, it was nice to be able to speak to her predecessors, but the unsolicited advice got annoying real quick. When the unsolicited parenting advice started, she went to the void the next night and slapped them. They shut up after that. But when she was considering putting Kotaro in foster care there was a big argument over it. In the end, she still did it, but they convinced her to let Torino and Toshinori check up on him.
Poor Toshinori. At first, it was cool meeting his predecessors and being able to see Nana again, but like with her, the voices in his head got annoying. And after a little while, they could even appear in the real world, though they were more ghostlike and no one else could see them, so he never got a break. At least Nana was able to watch Kotaro grow up after Torino decided to adopt him and Hana and Tenko lived decent lives. Kotaro was still really tough but not as bad as he could have been. And AFO stayed away realizing that with Torino and All Might, Kotarou won't be easily swayed.
And now, Izuku. Honestly, part of the reason Toshinori picked him was that he thought they would bother a kid more often. Oh, and he had heroic spirit and all that. There was certainly arguing over whether a kid should get that power but he argued with "well, I got that power as a high schooler and look at me now." "You're a skeleton." "Only because of AFO and he's dead." "Ugh, fine." (AFO is not dead but only Yoichi knows. He could sense it through twin bond but didn't want to ruin everyone else's celebration). Because they can all communicate Izuku gets better instruction and makes it through the exam with fractures in his legs and a single broken arm. After that he later gets a lecture from Hikage and goes "Oh, I need to let it spread through my body instead of one sole place" "Yeah exactly-" "Like a microwave!" "..." So, he reaches that a lot quicker and doesn't have to break a finger on the first day of school. It all goes well until the USJ happens. The vestiges were out of the void, wanting to observe the training, but no one but Izuku could see them. Then Kurogiri comes in with the nomu and the vestiges are so startled they become visible to everyone. And 7 ghosts appearing around one green haired boy startles everyone else so much they all freeze and stare. AFO (who was watching at home) sees his brother and orders Kurogiri to take everyone back and leave.
I'll stop there for now since I don't want to rewrite all of Mha. But yes, there is no substitute for Tomura since I couldn't think of anyone to take his place.

First off I’m sorry if none of this makes sense, I somehow misunderstood something in the manga/anime, or if someone else has already touched on this.
Secondly, MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE MANGA!!! (Up to the current chapter 417!)
I have one very important question:
If Izuku is quirkless now, given that all eight of the vestiges have been “transferred”, then how is he still in the vestige realm?
There are only three possible reasons for this:
Izuku has made OFA his quirk. Maybe by using it in such a unique way, some part of OFA will always remain within Izuku.
My personal gripes with this theory:
Kind of boring, as we’ve already seen it with All Might.
It ignores the fact that it was Izuku that unlocked all eight(?) quirks.
Izuku, unlike All Might, hasn’t been reduced to a wispy state like vestige!Might.
I don’t have definitive proof for this, as OFA is mostly likely not gone-gone. But there’s no one left in OFA, at least on Izuku’s side. None of the predecessors. Not even Yoichi as an anchor quirk.
Since AFO-OFA are “resonating” , Izuku (and Tomura) are immune to regular vestige/quirk rules. For example, being reduced to a being like vestige!Might.
My personal gripes with this theory:
All the same ones as above.
Although, this is a little less boring.
If Hori uses this reasoning to delve more into Tomura and Izuku’s connection (OFA-AFO connection), then I wouldn’t hate it.
It still ignores Izuku’s inherent connection to OFA (unlocking all the quirks, and seeing vestiges without any medical procedures like Tomura).
My favorite theory that’s come out of the DFO fandom: Izuku has had a quirk all along!
This one makes the most sense.
I won’t go into all the specifics, but if you’re interested Marunalu has gone over the theory several times on their Tumblr.
It answers everything.
Why Izuku was able to unlock the quirks.
Why Izuku could see the vestiges.
Why Izuku is still in Tomura’s vestige realm despite being “quirkless” now.
And why Izuku is able to handle several quirks at a time without becoming braindead.
*All the other ones could maybe be disproven (maybe), but the last point can’t. No amount of quirk singularity can fix how much brainspace a person has. Tomura had to get major surgery to be able to handle AFO (which while different from OFA, both have more than one quirk). Meanwhile, Izuku unlocks his predecessors’ quirks like he’s beating a video game (heh).
*One other reason that I just thought of while typing this: maybe there’s a AFO vestige in the vault. I’ve seen this theory tossed around for a while now, but I feel like there would have been more proof outside of that one chapter. Alternatively, if there is an AFO vestige kicking around OFA, that could be AFO’s final play. By being the only one left in OFA, there’s no one to protect Izuku from being taken over, or possessed by the AFO quirk. I really hope it isn’t this one, but it would make an excellent fanfic. Especially if combined with DFO and/or Tomura having to be the one to save Izuku.
Or maybe it’s none of these, and Hori will surprise us. He certainly has before, and I’m 100% sure he will again :D!!

Did Hand Holding Start it All?
I have a theory (?)... just a thought I had when watching the episode. And this post probably won't make any sense at all! I'm just rambling here!
ONWARD!!!
Tumblr media
What if this is when OFA got transferred from Yoichi to the 2nd?
Wait! I know what you're thinking, but just follow along with me here.
I know that in order for OFA to be transferred, it has to be through DNA. Eat a hair, exchange blood. But listen! What if that wasn't always the case?
Here's the thing, the first couple of Users didn't know about how OFA was exchanged, did they? So they wouldn't know OFA could be exchanged through DNA.
And we know you can't just consume the DNA of the User unless it's willing between both the predecessor and the successor.
And we also know that that OFA grew stronger over time as it passed on.
Okay, well consider this!
OFA was just a transferable quirk when it started with Yoichi, it was a weak quirk. It was "useless" unless another party got involved. So what if because it was weak, it really just needed a simple touch be passed on? OFA itself didn't possess any of the Users so there was no willpower for it be avoid being passed to anyone. It wasn't developed. It wasn't a holding place for the vestiges. DNA wasn't necessary until it got stronger to the point that a simple touch like holding hands became extremely dangerous so exchanging DNA became also a shield to prevent it falling into the wrong hands.
Not only that, what if this is where the mutual agreement thing started?
Yoichi may be a kind mind, but he isn't stupid nor naive. He could tell the 2nd wanted to kill him when he burst through the door like that, but he still accepted his hand, right? Because he trusted him. Think about it. If he thought the 2nd was tricking him in order to kill him, he wouldn't have accepted his hand. Why?
Because what's the point of coming through the door like that with the intent to kill and wait later when he had the chance right there? Yoichi was defenseless, he was sickly. Why would the 2nd wait to kill him?
Think back to the scene when Ippan Josei (big fox lady) was getting attacked. They thought that even though she was pleading for them to stop, she would attacked them once they dropped their guard.
It's like that!
In this case, the trust worked! Yoichi managed to escape AFO because he trusted the 2nd. He was willing to go with him. He felt safe. Therefore, OFA was safe enough to transfer to the 2nd.
Also, consider this!
Symbolism!
Why hold hands? Why would that be the time OFA got exchanged?
You know who is the creator of this story, right? Horikoshi Kohei and we know how he is with hands.
Hands are a big deal in BNHA.
Shigaraki and his family's hands.
Midoriya’s hands and Iida with his hand injury.
The hand crusher joke.
Hand holding happens quite often.
A lot of quirk users use their hands and one of them is Katsuki Bakugou.
Why am I bringing up him?
What is one of the most important hand holding scenes in this story?
THIS!!
Tumblr media
Ah, yes, the river scene!
Wonder why I'm bringing this up still?
Well, for one, it's one of the most impacting events in Bakugou and Midoriya’s relationship. We all know that day Bakugou rejected Midoriya’s hand because he felt some kind of way and regrets it later.
What if Yoichi didn't trust the 2nd that day?
OFA never would have gotten transferred and Yoichi probably would have died sooner. And AFO would have won much more earlier.
What if the river scene also was a hint to that? What if the river scene was a clue that shows how OFA got started because instead of feeling like they didn't need or wanted help, they accepted it from the person they trusted?
Also, check out the characteristics.
Midoriya and Yoichi were both considered weak individuals, they're the start and end of OFA, and they have green eyes. They're kind and compassionate. There's also looking at two certain spiky haired individuals as their heroes.
Bakugou and the 2nd are leaders/being followed by others, use tools for their fast working quirks, spiky haired and red eyed. They're also brash, wanting to get things done even if it means using violence. Defied AFO and got killed by him. Had a change of heart when it came to certain green eyed individuals.
Their hand holding scenes are reversed!
Midoriya and the 2nd reached out to Bakugou and Yoichi. However, one rejected help and later regretted while the other who accepted is satisfied with his decision.
What if this whole time that's what Horikoshi wanted us to see?
That yeah, Midoriya and Bakugou's relationship is very important to the story. But so important that it gave us a hint the whole time as to how OFA got transferred in the first place?
What if that is how OFA went from Yoichi to the 2nd?
A simple hand hold?

Hive mind au; ok ok ok so. What if they didn't find out they could Share Quirks until kamino. all might hears all his students and predecessors cheering him on, a chant of COME ON ALL MIGHT...
and then he uses Explosion.
Here's a thought. All Might wasn't present at the USJ when Midoriya linked everyone. He's connected through his embers of OFA. So what if they all assumed that he couldn't do the Quirk share because of that, until Kamino?

I think Izuku was originally a Vessel alternative for All for one, All for one did not have Tenko as the only candidate, he experimented and considered other options like Dabi and Number 6, I believe Izuku was a test, if Someone genetically related could be a vessel, and also curiosity of what the result would be of Mixing All for one with a fourth generation Quirk, just like he did with Shigaraki and Number 6 he possibly moved the pieces in an attempt to turn Izuku into what he wanted
All for one, just as he did with Number 6 and Shigaraki, encouraged heroic desires in Izuku, to later turn this into hatred and resentment, All for one, to avoid attracting attention, blocked Izuku's Quirk, making Izuku appear to be Quirkless, similar to what he did with Tenko, the difference is that he didn't remove the Factor here
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All for one knew that Izuku would be bullied for being Quirkless, and hoped that crushing his dreams would turn into hatred and resentment towards hero society, just knowing the injustice and cruelty of the world, generating the hatred that All for one needed, I don't think Allfor ordered Lil Tsubasa to be killed because he was bullying Izuku, but rather because he went too far and almost killed Izuku by throwing him from a great height.
However, Izuku held no grudge or hatred towards the people he was supposed to hate, for obvious reasons this made him less qualified to be a vessel than Shigaraki
Tumblr media
All for one probably abandoned his project with Izuku for good after All Might left him disfigured, not having shown himself suitable as a vessel, is perhaps the reason why All for one calls Izuku Worthless, if he fails to prove himself worthy of his vessel for All for one he is also not worthy of the One for All which is why he considered it a mistake on the part of the predecessors to entrust the OFA to him
As the Danger Sensor never activated with All for One, it is possible that he has a certain consideration towards Izuku, but he certainly wouldn't admit it.

That smile that Bruce has in his final moments really make me think he already passed OFA and already knew his successor was going to strengthen the quirk rather than fight straight away. So he knew the quirk would be safe and they had some advantage over afo
Tumblr media
Yeah, he did pass it on before fighting AFO; every OFA wielder managed to pass it on before their death by AFO's hand. Only Banjo and En (excluding All Might and Midoriya) still held it when they fought AFO, so Bruce would've been like the others: fighting with the Ability/Quirk already passed on.
For reference, the excerpt from that volume extra with Banjo's face on it;
"All the predecessors besides the Fourth were indeed killed by All For One, but each one managed to pass on the Quirk before their death."
All For One killed them. But they passed on the Quirk before they faced him.
But also, Shinomori went into hiding to avoid society, I don't think he'd actually join the fight of the Resistance when they're fighting AFO's side—he's at the top of their chaotic land. It's a fight with the one who governs current society. The "demon lord". Most of the Resistance died with Kudo, so Bruce fighting AFO was either with whoever was left, or he was completely alone, and those are old corpses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At Bruce's fight and eventual death with AFO, I think he might've gone back to where Kudo and the rest died. Whether he did or not, he took the last members with the Resistance for a last stand, if any remained. They probably did have some left; Kudo shouldn't have left Bruce to fight him and continue OFA, with no one on his side. Cruel, and a small platform for Bruce to stand on. The platform of the vestiges was already small compared to AFO when doing a symbolism of the power difference. Imagine Bruce on his own.
(This was when Nana and Yoichi pushed AFO+AFO/Tomura out of the vestige world)
Tumblr media
Plus, since the Resistance started out of "our Leader [having] misgivings about the future", Kudo wouldn't have brought everyone to fight AFO. If he did, the Resistance ends right there; there has to be a chance their will and cause continues into the future, neverminding Bruce and OFA. I don't mean Yoichi's will here—I mean the Resistance's. Don't bring everyone to the death march.
But look at how we only see two others when Bruce died, and even after Bruce is clearly dead, AFO still tries getting an answer from him. He wouldn't have left any survivors in this fight, let alone Kudo's.
Since Shinomori got OFA when he was 22, I think he and Bruce had been something of colleagues before, especially since Bruce knew where to find him in the forests. Since Shinomori had run into the hermit life to escape society and its weirdos, citing it as a "horrible era"
Bruce could just trust him with it and ran back to the city. He knew where to find him, they're close in age, one decided to fight to restore society while the other ran from it for what it became...
He didn't choose a member of the Resistance. But Bruce made a smart choice for who the next successor would be. He chose fast (enough that AFO was still mad about Kudo and Yoichi to bother interrogating a corpse), and chose the guy who:
● lives off the radar
● has a will against AFO/society, driven enough that he went off to hide
● has an Ability that senses danger, so he can always escape or be warned in time
● can evade AFO and his influence repeatedly
● is cautious, if not careful
● isn't tempermental to go get himself killed, with enough fear to know to step back
● would be unknown and non-existent to AFO, because he avoids society, where the big evil lurks
Shinomori knew the instant he received the Quirk that he wasn't strong enough. Bruce would have to have been present to at least pass it on, so Bruce probably knew Shinomori's decision too, to build up the will.
Tumblr media
Until En with his hair, each transfer was probably blood, since that was the OG method between Yoichi and Kudo that worked for sure.
When Bruce passed it to Shinomori, he chose a guy who didn't have an offensive Ability like him or Kudo (who managed to use his offensively when it was just small objects at his time). He chose a guy who could keep the wielder and Quirk safe, and would pass it on once he was done with his turn. I don't know if they knew Quirks stockpiled in OFA, but if they did, Bruce made a smart choice. If they knew or not, Bruce still chose well to ensure the will continued into the future, away from AFO's reach.
So yeah. Bruce passed One For All before fighting All For One, and likely knew Shinomori's intention. The reason he smiled could've been because he knew AFO would take another loss today, but the only details we got of his death are few. He smiled, fought, and died impaled, with dead comrades around, and AFO trying to get an answer out of him for Yoichi's whereabouts.
I'm still curious on why Bruce smiled because there are reasons we could put together, and reasons we don't know. Was it because he got one over AFO? Did he enjoy the fight? Because he was facing death in the face and couldn't help but smile? Because somewhere, One for All was growing to screw AFO over in the future? We don't know much of the fight's details itself beyond [AFO participated] and [Bruce was killed].
(Remembering how Bruce's Ability works just puts his fight against AFO as even more desperate or dire, really. He temporarily charges energy, but can only release it per limb once [ex. Midoriya still having a leg of Fa Jin]. So like when Midoriya used his individual fingers, Bruce only gets one shot for each body part he can think of. His strength with OFA isn't as much as it could be either, because he isn't the wielder anymore. All he has are the leftover fumes.)

MHA isn’t about merely “handing the baton” or getting rid of the prior generation. To me, MHA is exploring what a prior generation owes to its successors (very much like “The Good Place”), and it’s pretty clear what doesn’t work:
A mentor can’t “hand the baton” without guidance and education. See early All Might — he thought handing off OFA was like the Olympic torch, but that didn’t work with Izuku at all. Izuku needed more than “eat this,” “visualize sensation,” and “clench your cheeks.”
A mentor can’t just clone themselves (see early All Might, AFO, and Endeavor). Their job is to help their successor discover the successor’s best self, and not a “next me.”
Likewise, a successor can’t lay claim to a mantle without understanding the intentions of the predecessor. It has to be something that’s handed down with thought and intention from the prior generation, otherwise the message can get corrupted (see Star and Stripe).

Second chance!au
Three questions for you
1. Does izuku get out during the kamino arc or later? If he did I just imagine izuku being very shut in and defensive while being very confused on why shoto know his favorite food, songs and other obscure facts and calling him a pet name. mean while shoto is trying his best try to comfort and help his future husband to get use to being a normal kid again
2. Who replaced izuku in the class?
3. And how does all might feel about izuku? I imagine he will keep a close eye on izuku to see if he turns out to be like his dad
Izuku is found and rescued from a vault deep in the warehouse in Kamino. He is shy, defensive and confused about everyone but especially Shoto. Who as far as he knows is a stranger who is being suspiciously kind and accommodating to him for no reason. The only time someone has been kind to Izuku is because they want something or want his submission. And then there's Shoto who without asking makes sure he's alright, cooks food he thinks he likes, or introduces Izuku to music he's never heard of before but falls in love with and just is gentle with him.
Izuku doesn't know what to do with that, he's had to be strong so long he's not used to being cared for or gentility.
And when Izuku demands answers Shoto just says "you always look so sad and like you were asking for help."
Which breaks down all of Izuku's walls, he's unprepared for how honest it is or that anyone realized he was needing help not even himself till it was pointed out to him.
And Shoto just wants to help Izuku at the end of the day, even if Izuku never ends up falling for him(he does but still) he just wants him to be okay.
Shinso replaced Izuku in class 1-A.
All Might keeps a close eye on Izuku not because he thinks he'll turn out like his father, but because he can spot a victim when he see's one. He wants to help Izuku but doesn't exactly know how. He's never been one to emotionally support the people he rescues more often running away because of his time limit. So he hovers unsure what to do.
He for sure has a soft spot for the sad boy but is unwilling to admit it at first. But the more time he spends with Izuku and the more Izuku opens up, the more All Might is reminded of his predecessor and of the story of the first Ofa user.
Which makes him both happy and extremely sad for the boy.
