DEFENDERS' SAGA Series 4: LUKE CAGE Series 1 PowerMan was always problematic for Marvel after the 70s: like Iron Fist he was created reactively, not proactively & so suffered when the fad wained, so when he reappeared in Avengers & then Defenders etc. he made an impact, but didn't find an audience. i'm really chuffed he was included in ABC/Netfux's Defenders' saga, & created SOO chuffin well by CHEO HODARI COKER - many elements were still tame & tv-realistic, but it felt engaging & informative to experience such a fantastical character in such a grounded & believable context, created by POC who could teach their audience authentically. it was another genesis series, but with Luke's introduction in Jessica Jones it was more developed than it might merely have been. 9/10

Superjail #2: “Superbar” | September 28, 2008 - 11:45PM | S01E01
Superjail! It’s back, baby! The darling of The Night of 1000 Pilots roars back onto our small screens. Glad to have it back; It’s been a very long time since I’ve watched through this show, and I’m not entirely positive I saw every single episode.
Superjail is formulaic. But, it’s also very, very funny and well animated, so you rarely feel how formulaic it is. Jailbot apprehends the recidivist Jackknife who commits crimes in the real world. Jailbot brings Jackknife to Superjail. A Thematic story unfolds that builds towards a big fight filled with violent sight-gags. Jackknife is seen escaping in the background. Repeat.
In this one, Jackknife is at a carnival on a pier, where he darts a guy in the face to steal the carnival prize and tries to make a getaway on a rich family’s speedboat. Jailbot shows up in boat form and takes Jackknife away.
At Superjail, the Warden wants to ask Alice out for a drink. For this to happen, he needs to build a bar in Superjail, which he does. This hearkens back to Bar Fight, Christy Karacas and  Stephen Warbrick’s 2001 short film that is set in a bar where a crazy fight breaks out. I’m pretty sure I mentioned this on the write-up for Superjail’s Bunny Love pilot, but it’s basically a prototype for this show.
The Warden gets jealous when Alice agrees to meet him at Superjail’s new watering hole, but brings a date; a prisoner she wants to bone. The prisoner is not there on his own accord; in fact he at one point bites his own head off to free himself from bondage when Alice ties him up at the bar. Despite now being a severed head squirming around on the bar counter, the Warden still tries to drunkenly pick a fight with him.
One of the bar patrons is disgusted by the condition of the men’s room (where a pile of naked prisoners are playing a lewd game of Twister), so he enters the pristine and empty ladies room. He gets fed up with an animatronic wall-display of the Warden and punches it, which puts a hole through the wall. That’s when he finds out that Superjail’s Seagate is just on the other side of the bathroom, and he enacts a plan to escape through it.
Jared, a recovering alcoholic who is cruelly shoved into the role of Superjail’s bartender, winds up getting a drop of alcohol on his tongue which triggers a full-on relapse. He bitterly goes into the Warden’s office while puzzled on hooch and starts pushing random buttons, one of which open the seagate, causing the ocean to rush into Superjail’s bar and spurring the episode’s customary themed melee. This involves Jellyfish, Swordfish, Tridents wielded by mermen on sea horses, piranhas, et al. The part where the squid squirts so much ink it fills the entire screen is really cool. The show is very good at mixing up the visuals to keep things engaging.
Jackknife escapes, and he creepily visits the teenage daughter of the rich family, in a final scene that looks like it’s more from a horror movie than a comedy. It’s difficult to watch comedy of almost any significant vintage and think YOU COULD NEVER MAKE BLAZING SADDLES, I MEAN, SUPERJAIL TODAY! But the show’s spirit is so fun despite it’s unpleasant-on-paper subject matter that it’s difficult to get truly mad at it. I said a lot of this in the Bunny Love. This applies to Alice, the walking trans joke. As misguided as some of that humor may seem today, I get the sense that the creators of the show like her as a character, and she's rarely (if ever) misgendered by her co-workers. It's not perfect, but it's not nothing.
There’s also a new prisoner guy, I think. He’s the guy who punches the hole in the wall. Maybe he was in “Bunny Love” but I remember thinking “oh, this is the main character on this show, now” the first time I saw this. He sorta seemed like an attempt to make a likable main prisoner guy. It’s the one added element to this show that felt like the biggest evolution from pilot to series. It’s fairly subtle, but it stuck out to me. It sorta makes the show feel more like a sitcom and less like an artsy-but-funny short film like Bunny Love does.
Stray stuff: I think my favorite joke on this is when Alice shoves a plate of hot wings into a prisoner’s face, and it melts his skin off, so he dunks his whole head into a big barrel of bleu cheese to cool off. The Twins are in this, but they just sorta observe. At one point they go shirtless, and you can see they have quadruple nips. Didn't catch a Sealab 2021 reference when the prisoners were observing the underwater civilization, which I consider to be a good thing, fuck Sealab.
This episode is very good, and if it were my introduction to the series I’d probably be pretty impressed with it. But I feel the same way watching this as I do watching Robocop 2; that it’s about 80% as good as the original, but the original is one of the best things ever made, so it’s still satisfying.

The Robin Bain bit (specifically her being nude and uncensored on DVD) never quite sat right with me because it seemed like it was by design a way to get easy-access nude tits into the hands of every 12 year old boy. Though I guess most kids would have had smartphones or at least unfettered internet access by then. And I didn't complain when the Whitest Kids I Like did it. Still, weird!
Yes, I agree! I think it's weird and suspicious when a show that doesn't have a built-in outlet for sleaze suddenly has sleaze in it. Not that I am saying nude female presenting nipples are SLEAZY, per-se, I just mean they are when Seth Green is involved.

Cage wasn't the most affectionate man; years spent in the harshest conditions within an inhumane prison did that to him. Seagate prison pushed his mind and body to the point of self deletion, but he had to fight it. Some would still say the man he was (Carl Lucas) died in Seagate thus birthing Luke Cage.
Relationships never came easy for him. A strained relationship with his father in his youth, his best friend framed him ultimately sending him to prison, then his fiancee's death. Reva Conners, the woman he loved, unknowingly trusted the man that betrayed him which was instrumental in her death. Revenge was the only motivation Cage had for surviving the unforgiving cruel environment that was Seagate prison.
Confessing love to Rangiku was the first time he uttered those words since his late fiancee. He couldn't lose her. Not without pleading his case.
"I never thought I ever would love another woman- but I do. You." He was a compassionate man, she was right- but his feelings for her since meeting her in Japan had escalated from compassion to something greater." Shit goes badly for me regardless of love or hate. I can handle it." He protested.
The tall, incredibly built man looks down upon her and lays a gentle palm on her shoulder." Ain't got a lot of people in my life I love. I need you."

365 Marvel Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
February 16th - Luke Cage
Carl Lucas, the man that would one day be known as the heroic ‘Luke Cage,’ was born and raised in the Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan. He was the son of Esther and James Lucas, a retired N.Y.P.D. detective. Lucas spent his youth causing trouble on the streets with his friends, a group of would-be gangsters who called themselves ‘The Rivals.’   In his younger years, Carl dreamed of becoming a powerful racketeer and crime boss.  As he grew older, however, he came to better understand how his actions were affecting others, especially his parents.  As such, he began to disengage from his pals among The Rivals.  Carl’s former best friend, Willis Stryker, felt angry and abandoned by Carl.  As retribution, he planted a large amount of narcotics in Carl’s apartment and informed the police.  It resulted in Carl being charged, sentenced and incarcerated.
Following numerous fights and escape attempts, Carl was transferred to the notorious Seagate Prison of Louisiana.  There Carl was subjected to all manners of brutalities, primarily at the hands of a racist guard named Rackham.
Dr. Noah Burstein came to the prison to carry out secret medical research and recruited Carl as a volunteer. Bernstein was secretly working on experimental cell regeneration based on a variant of the Super-Soldier process that had transformed Steve Rogers into Captain America.  Burstien immersed Carl in the ‘Electro-Biochemical System,’ a device that contained an electrical field conducted by an organic chemical compound. When he left equipment unattended, Rackham tampered with the controls, hoping to kill Carl. However, the treatment was accelerated past its intended purpose causing mutagenic change throughout Carl's body, fortifying his cells and giving him superhuman strength and durability. Carl used his new-found powers to escape the prison and make his way back to Harlem. A chance encounter with criminals inspired him to use his new powers for profit.
Still a wanted man, Carl adopted the alias ‘Luke Cage.’  With his new super powers he decided to don a distinctive costume, and start a new career as a ‘Hero for Hire.’ He would help anyone who could meet his price.  He found an office above Times Square's Gem Theater and from there he continued his new career.
Dr. Burstein also relocated to New York and opened a Storefront Clinic, assisted by Dr. Claire Temple. Luke met Claire after he was attacked by hitmen hired by his old friend Stryker. When she rushed to help him she was shocked to find that he wasn't injured by the attack, but insisted on having her colleague look at his bruises. At the clinic he met his old friend Dr. Burnstein. Later, when Burnstein was attacked by a syndicate looking to convince them into paying a protection fee, Claire suggested that they take up Luke's services. Claire was kidnapped and Luke tracked her to the perpetrators lair, where he was surprised to find that it was his old friend and betrayer, Willis Stryker. The two former friends fought. During the fight Stryker fell through a skylight and was blown up by one of his own trick switchblades, ruining any hope Luke had that Stryker could clear his name.
Luke went on to have numerous adventures in his role as the hero for hire.  After an encounter with Iron Man, Luke decided to take on the moniker of ‘Power Man’ to further cement his status as a super hero.  He later became a member of The Defenders for a brief period of time and additionally acted as a member of The Fantastic Four, stepping in for The Thing who had temporarily lost his powers.
Some time later, Clare Temple and Noah Burstein were abducted by the crime lord known as Cottonmouth.  The villain used them as hostages in order to coerce Power Man into taking down Misty Knight, a longstanding nemesis of Cottonmouth.  The scheme backfired when Cage joined forces with Misty and her boyfriend, Iron Fist, to take down Cottonmouth.
Cage and Iron Fist did not have much in common with one another, yet they nonetheless got along extremely well.  The two decided to rebrand the Hero for Hire operation as Power Man and Iron Fist: The Heroes for Hire, and together achieved great success, earning an international reputation and battling a wide variety of criminals on countless adventures.
Cage was ultimately able to clear his original name and he worked with investigator, Dakota North, in an effort to find and reconnect with his parents.  The effort was stymied by Cage’s older brother, James Lucas Jr.  Indeed James Jr.’s animosities toward his brother ran so deep that he ended up becoming a member of the criminal syndicate known as The Corporation, whose power-enhancing scientist, Doctor Karl Malus, mutated him into the super villain called Coldfire.  Yet the Corporation betrayed James Jr. and they took his father, James Lucas Sr., as a hostage to ensure his cooperation.  It was a critical error which ultimately led to the two brothers resolving their differences and teaming up to rescue their father.  Coldfire ended up sacrificing himself to save his father and destroy The Corporation.
Following a brief tenure with an expanded Heroes For Hire squad, Cage decided to lay low from super heroics, retiring the ‘Power Man’ name and just going by Luke Cage.  He and Jessica Jones became body guards for attorney Matt Murdock.  Luke and Jessica became very close as he helped her overcome her difficulties with drinking and begin the process of working through past traumas she endured at the hands of the sadistic villain known as The Purple Man.  Luke and Jessica ultimately became romantically involved and have remained together ever since.  The two were married and have a daughter named Danielle Cage.
In the wake of the Secret Invasion event, Cage once more found himself a fugitive as Norman Osborn took over SHIELD, rebranded it as HAMMER, and labeled Cage and many of his fellow heroes as enemies of the state.  Cage ended up a member of the New Avengers, battling against Osborn and his various schemes.
Cage remained with the Avengers through the return of the heroic era, ultimately forming his own squad of Mighty Avengers.  Cage additionally spent time acting as the leader of a new iteration of The Thunderbolts squad.  Later Cage reunited with his former partner, Iron Fist, to take down a number of threats that were linked to Cage’s youth growing up in Harlem.  More recently, Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones have teamed up with Tony Stark in an effort to bring down Mayor Wilson Fisk.
Actor Mike Colter portrayed Luke Cage in the MCU Netflix series Cage, along with the Defenders and Jessica Jones series.  The character first appeared in the pages of Hero for Hire #1 (1972).

tfw the plot bunny strikes and refuses to let go, here, continuation of this:
.
Loki was torn between chagrin and vague amusement, as he observed everyone else’s reactions to the two Justin Hammers in between herding everyone to one of the safehouses Victor von Doom had somehow managed to get ahold of in this strange world.
At first glance, Victor seemed to be the most unperturbed— but Loki knew him well enough to note the way his eyes had widened when he’d seen the two side by side, couldn’t help but catch the tiniest shift in the way he held himself and Loki would bet anything that if he were any sort of telepath, he’d be hearing nothing but an infernal screeching coming from his corner of the room.
Ivan Vanko wasn’t much better, but at least he’d elected to hyperfixate on cleaning up the loose ends they’d left in relation to their original mission: from his mutters, some of the security cameras’ footage had been trickier to access than not, and required even more effort to scrub. Loki gave it another five minutes before he was forced to look away from his computer and acknowledge the reality of the situation.
Meanwhile, the Winter Soldiers were an interesting study in contrasts; while Winter was extremely apologetic about the situation and had already apologized no less than five times, Soldat seemed to be content to look on in bemusement as the situation unraveled from there.
...which wasn’t very different from what Loki’s own counterpart was doing, actually, but at least Soldat wasn’t enjoying the chaos. Visibly, anyway, and Loki was getting a new appreciation for just how irritating that particular smirk looked on his own face. If they all weren’t so focused on calming the jumpier, more visibly frazzled-version of their leader, someone would’ve punched it off his face by now. As it was, though...
.
“Who the hell are you people?!” Justin Hammer whisper-shrieked, in between sharp gasps for air and eyes wide as he cowered away from his kidnappers. “And wh— wh—”
“He’s more high-strung than you are.” Someone muttered to the terrifying figure who had his face—
“Of course he is, he has no idea what’s going on and you guys kidnapped him,” his mirror image replied with a flat look, before turning to face him looking vaguely embarrassed. “Look, Hammer— can I call you Hammer? Wait, no, you can be Justin, I’ll go by Hammer and man this is weird— I can explain. Just. Sit down and take a breather, because it’s, uh, a bit of a long story.”
.
Justin would’ve thought an explanation would leave him with more answers than questions.
He was sorely mistaken.
The headache he had now wasn’t much of an improvement from before.
.
“So, let me get this straight: you,” Justin jabbed a finger at the dude with the dark grey mask which was just about the only thing differentiating him from his twin, “grabbed me because you mistook me for him—”
“Sorry about that, by the w—”
“—and you’re all from some other dimension and pissed off goodness knows how many organizations trying to figure out how to get home,” Justin steamrollered on, closing his eyes in an effort to take things one step at a time because he was trying not to feel overwhelmed but these guys weren’t making it easy, “is that right?”
“Well...”
“I mean...”
“Yeah.” Ivan— not the bastard responsible for his being in Seagate, another version of him who apparently didn’t actively try and screw people over— replied, and Justin opened his eyes just in time to catch the tail end of his shrug. “That about sums it up.”
“Okay.” Justin nodded to himself. “Why?”
“Why what? You’re going to need to be more specific, here, I’m not a mind reader.”
“How’d you even get here? Or do you weirdos just go dimension-hopping for fun on a Friday night?”
“You’re not the only one wondering that.” The alien god said airily, toying with a— that was a knife, okay, Justin already knew he was in way over his head, he didn’t need the reminder, thanks. Where did it even come from, anyway? “I would really like to know that as well, Ivan.”
“Oh, nah, this was a freak accident.” Ivan snorted, then gave them all a smirk that gave Justin goosebumps for a second. “As for why...look at it this way: this was weird and stressful for us, and from the start you guys knew what was going on and have me to figure out how to get us back. Now imagine if it’d been the Avengers.”
The silent, broody one— Victor, was it?— made a noise of realization. “That is diabolical. I love it.”
“I know, I was trying to figure out how to temper it when this happened. The ray gun was supposed to be temporary, I’m not sure what happened but the end goal’s a duration of twenty-four hours. Sorry you guys got caught up in the beta, by the way.”
“We are going to be having words about proper lab safety protocols when we get home, Ivan.” Victor said darkly, and something in his voice that had six out of the seven other people in the room freezing for a second.
Justin couldn’t help but notice his...twin was not part of that number.
But first, because this was something he’d been wondering ever since he’d heard of how this ‘Cabal’ operated—
“Why are you going to this effort?”Justin asked.
“Oh, boy, here we go again,” the guy calling himself ‘Winter’ muttered, but before he do more than start to turn to him in confusion, Ivan spoke.
“Because death is too simple.” He said, not looking away from the computer he’d pulled out. “Because any rando with a gun could do that, if they wanted. No, if I’ve got a beef with someone, I want them to suffer. I want them to regret ever having pissed me off, to curse my name every time they step on a Lego and realize who put it there, to—”
“Yes, I know, we get it.” One of the alien gods cut in. The one who didn’t look like shit, and had a long-suffering look on his face partway into Ivan’s spiel. “If I had a penny for every time you go on that rant...”
“Says the guy who uses my ideas to become the official nemesis of the Avengers.” Ivan shot back, unamused, and the way Winter sighed and Victor pinched the bridge of his nose told him this was a recurring argument.
“Guys,” Justin’s...twin cut in, and Justin couldn’t help but feel something in the pit of his stomach clench as he noticed the way everyone from his dimension came to attention. “If we could focus on getting home?”
“I know, I know, I’m on it.” Ivan muttered, turning back to his computer. “Trying to throw SHIELD off our trail’s easier here, but it’s still not exactly a cakewalk.”
“Okay. What can we do in the meantime?”
.
The more Justin saw of this ‘Cabal’, of Hammer and the others, the more uncomfortable he felt.
Because the more time passed, the more it felt like...he was seeing a better version of himself.
How long had he tried to get people to respect him? How many classes on public speaking and marketing had he taken, how many books had he read in an effort to build his charisma, to be remembered as something other than the cheap knockoff of Tony Stark?
And now...
Justin watched as someone wearing his face walked around, and he was quiet, and fairly introverted, but something about him demanded respect, commanded all the attention in the room when he talked, and... Justin wanted that.
.
Of course, Justin’s...twin noticed.
For some reason, the look of sympathy he got felt even worse than the first time he’d donned prisoner’s uniform in Seagate.
Not to mention the conversation they had, when Justin was ushered into a quiet corner near the safehouse’s kitchen as they had tea.
.
It was. A talk.
Not a great one.
Not that there really could’ve been, considering, but.
“I am not you, you are not me, and that’s a good thing.”
Justin didn’t know what he was expecting, really.
Another version of himself, forcing him to acknowledge things he’d thought he’d gotten over— how was he supposed to handle it?
“You were set up for failure from the start, you know. No child should ever have to carry some of the burdens you grew up with.”
Just.
Someone who understood, and how was he supposed to deal?
“You cannot change the past, but you can control your own actions in the future. What do you want to do, who do you want to become? What makes you, you?”
Justin had thought he’d felt tired when he’d finally been brought into the mess these guys were part of, but now his exhaustion felt soul-deep and he didn’t know when he’d started crying but no matter how hard he tried, he just couldn’t stop—
.
Mercifully, the others left him alone for the rest of the day.
He... needed to think.
.
Justin wasn’t the only one having a hard time, he knew: he’d noticed the way Soldat followed Winter around, trying to mimic his self-confidence, and the Loki of this world looked at the easy camaraderie his counterpart had with a hunger that would’ve made Justin very nervous if that expression were aimed at him.
Something dark and feral, all jagged edges and brittle smiles and it shouldn’t have resonated nearly as much as it did but—
It made for a good conversation starter, if nothing else. Something relatable to bond over tea, because Victor was a monster who had an irrational disdain for coffee and Justin needed his caffeine fix if he wanted to keep what was left of his sanity.
.
Justin didn’t know what he brought to the table. Not compared to whatever his twin did, anyway, and he didn’t want to go that route either because he wanted to be himself.
Even if he wasn’t certain what that looked like, anyway, not after decades of chasing after Tony Stark’s shadow, but...
He’d find out. Somehow.
.
“Hey! Guys, I figured it out!” Ivan’s excited cheer woke everyone up early one morning. “Just gotta get my hands on some materials, but we can go home soon!”

COMIC BOOK REFERENCES & EASTER EGGS - Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
The following is a guide to all the comic book references and Easter eggs I’ve spotted in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings along with any deviations from the source material. Note that owing to the convoluted and complex nature of comic books, I’ve tried to include only the most essential information regarding a character’s history and backstories.
In both media, Shang-Chi is known as an expert martial artist. As revealed in Special Marvel Edition #15 (1973), his comic book incarnation was raised at his father’s fortress in China. He was trained to fight by tutors and his father. At nineteen years of age, he was tasked by his father to assassinate Dr James Petrie (In the film, Shang-Chi is sent to kill the leader of the Iron Gang). After completing this assignment (in actuality Shang-Chi had attacked an android facsimile), he meets MI6 agent Sir Denis Nayland Smith, who reveals to him that his father is a criminal and not the noble man he was led to believe growing up. Shang-Chi returns to his father who confirms what he has learned. With this, Shang-Chi leaves, declaring that they are now enemies, and begins a new life in New York. Notably, this version of the character is half Chinese, with his mother being a White American. In the film, Shang-Chi’s mother, Jiang Li, is of Asian descent.
Tumblr media
Wenwu is an amalgamation of two characters from the source material: the Mandarin and Fu Manchu. Though he claims to be a direct descendant of Genghis Khan, the comic book incarnation of the Mandarin was born to an unknown Chinese father and English mother who was a prostitute. In addition to being a superb martial artist and tactician, he possesses ten rings (worn on his fingers; in the film, they’re akin to bracelets), each of which grants him a different power. The ring worn on his right thumb allows him to rearrange matter, the ring on his right index finger can generate a concussive force, the one on his right middle finger enables the Mandarin to create a vortex from the air, the one on his right ring finger produces a disintegration beam, the one on his right little finger generates an area of darkness, the ring worn on his left thumb produces a range of electromagnetic energy, the ring on his left index finger can generate heat and flames, the one on his left middle finger discharges electricity, the one on his left ring finger enhances his psionic energy, and the one on his left little finger generates cold and ice. The Mandarin obtained the objects from the wreckage of a spaceship belonging to the Makluans (also known as Kakaranatharian).
Tumblr media
In the comics, Fu Manchu is Shang-Chi’s father. He leads the secret organisation Si-Fan and has several bases around the world including one in Hunan, China. He’s a skilled combatant and has lived an extremely long life due to his consumption of the Elixir Vitae (In the MCU, Wenwu’s longevity is attributed to the ten rings). Fu Manchu was created by English author Sax Rohmer and featured in several novels before Marvel acquired the licence to use the character in their comics. With Marvel no longer having the rights to Fu Manchu, in Secret Avengers #8 (2010) it’s revealed that the character’s real name is Zheng Zu, with Fu Manchu being one of several aliases he’s used throughout the years.
Tumblr media
While Xialing is a new character created for the film, Shang-Chi does have many siblings in the comics. The first one we learn about is Fah Lo Suee (another Rohmer creation), Shang-Chi’s half-sister. Although she initially sides with her father, she would go on to oppose him. Fah Lo Suee made her first Marvel Comics appearance in Master of Kung Fu #26 (1975). Then there’s Moving Shadow, Shang-Chi’s younger half-brother, who made his debut in Shang-Chi: Master of Kung Fu #1 (2002). First appearing in Black Panther #11 (2005) is Kwai Far, Shang-Chi’s sister who was offered as a bride to T’Challa. The story “Brothers and Sisters” (Shang-Chi #1-5, 2020-21)—released during production on Shang-Chi—would reveal the existence of even more siblings: Brother Staff, Shi-Hua/Sister Hammer, Takeshi/Brother Sabre, and Esme/Sister Dagger.
Tumblr media
The Golden Daggers club is a reference to the Golden Dagger Sect of the comics, a criminal organisation led by Fah Lo Suee.
The comic book incarnation of Li Ching-Lin/Death-Dealer is an assassin and former MI6 agent who worked for Fu Manchu. He’s an experienced martial artist who wields triple-bladed weapons.
Tumblr media
Several characters have used the Razor-Fist moniker in the comics. The first was William Young, who made his debut in Master of Kung Fu #29 (1975). Later, brothers Douglas and William Scott took on the identity. The pair first appeared in Master of Kung Fu #105 (1981). All three Razor-Fists have worked for drug lord Carlton Velcro. As their name implies, each of the Razor-Fists have had one or both their hands replaced with steel blades. The MCU version of Razor Fist, with his connection to the Ten Rings, may be partially based on the Razor Fist from Earth-13116. In this reality, the character is a student at the Ten Rings martial arts school (with the Master of the Ten Rings, Zheng Zu, being the emperor of K’un Lun).
Tumblr media
In the comics, Ta-Lo is an extradimensional realm that’s home to the Xian (or Taoist gods). Creatures such as fenghuang, dragons, and haetae also inhabit the dimension. It made its first appearance in Thor #301 (1980).
Tumblr media
In the film, the creature trapped in Ta Lo is referred to as the Dweller-in-Darkness. The comic book incarnation of the Dweller-in-Darkness originates from the Everinnye dimension and exists only as a head (though does use a robotic body). The Dweller-in-Darkness has the ability to cause others to feel fear, which he feeds off, making him more powerful.
Tumblr media
There are also several MCU Easter eggs. The Blip is referenced on a poster while the Snap is alluded to by one of Shang-Chi’s friends. The street vendor from Spider-Man: Homecoming is a passenger on the bus when Shang-Chi fights Razor Fist. The Abomination (who now appears more reptilian per his comic book counterpart) fights Wong at the Golden Daggers club. Other contestants at the club include an Extremis soldier and an Asian Black Widow (we find out that her name is Helen). Wenwu watches footage of Tony Stark being held captive by the Ten Rings (taken from Iron Man). Wenwu holds Trevor Slattery prisoner having broken the actor free from Seagate Prison in All Hail the King. Shang-Chi meets Bruce Banner and Captain Marvel in the mid-credits scene.

Doctor Noah Burstein M.D. was a medical doctor and scientist based at Seagate Prison where he performed enhancement experiments on inmates. The experiment was performed on Luke Cage, who gained enhanced physical abilities. Years later Luke is experiencings surges in his powers, his physical strenght growing isn’t what concerns him it’s the lack of control, he’s afraid that one day he’ll lose control and hurt someone..hurt Jessica or their baby. Luke needs help to know what’s going on with his powers and Dr. Burstein is probably the only person on the planet with answers.
Luke had to use some of Danny’s vast resources to find the good doctor, seem after the events of Seagate Burstein went to ground and has been hiding from the authorities who blame him for the destruction and the dozens of prisoners that escaped in the chaos.
Branson Missouri is not exactly known for World Class Genetic Scientist to retire to but a great place for one to disappear. There are woods that a deep and vast that someone that really wanted to could easily disappear into them. Which made finding him a complete pain in the ass once Luke and Jessica drove as far as the road would allow them.
Well I guess we walk from here. Luke says sighing. They walked along a faded trail that eventually opened into a dirt road. Ok this is weird why is there suddenly a road here? They contiinue on for a few more miles and start to come across keep away signs, no trespassing the usual warning that people put up to scare folks off, Luke looks at Jessica and smirks. Seriously what can they do to us? Shoot us...land mines. He grins but then suddenly stops when he hears a distinct click from below his foot. Umm baby you may want to step back, I think the universe has a pretty twisted sense of humor and I just stepped on a land mine.

Wait, I’m trying to figure out some stuff, I never finished Luke Cage but at the beginning of The Defenders Foggy goes to get Luke out of prison… Seagate prison, correct? But isn’t Seagate in Georgia?? Or in NMCU is Seagate in NYC? I’m just trying to understand. 😅

Luke could relate with that. Power Man would've never guessed escaping from prison to save his life he'd ended up losing it regardless. The man known as Carl Lucas died in Seagate thus birthing Luke Cage and leaving his old life behind him.

✧I Need You✧  Chapter 192
Justin was going to drag his feet on this regardless of any cooperation he’d promised you. That was just a given. It was why, even though you’d sent Burt over there at five in the morning the next day, you knew you couldn’t stay idle. Justin had warned that Hammer Industries was flooding the illegal market with weapons. That had to be stopped, now. And Stark Industries, nor you, needed ownership of Hammer Industries to do it.
That was why, a little after five AM, you gathered all your Damage Control agents in the building into one large room and laid out a plan of attack. Hammer Industries had three main industrial warehouses in the city. The largest one was in Queens, with two smaller ones out in Industrial City in Brooklyn. You’d take a team of agents to Queens yourself, and dispatch the rest. This had to be done quickly, efficiently, and most important quietly. The Board was a serious flight risk. That could not happen.
Though it would have been smarter to take the suit, you opted for some sense of solidarity with your DC agents. This wasn’t an Avengers mission. And you were well suited enough with a gun and a bullet proof vest. Easier to be quiet about all this, too, if you didn’t just drop into the middle of the warehouse and start repulsor blasting everything in sight.
You had all exit points blocked as your team crept up to the building a little past seven. There was no serious movement in the warehouse- though LUNA had alerted you that there were several heat signatures pinging in what looked like a small conference room. Another deal being struck, perhaps? What a great time to make a bust. With silent hand motions, you pointed your agents up back along the fire escape. And when they just at the point of entry-
Your team busted down the front door. Rats would be crawling out of every hole in this place. Better to catch them all now and get a headcount. “Damage Control- nobody move!” It wasn’t like you really had to announce your presence. It wouldn’t keep anybody where they were, and more specifically, your presence didn’t need an announcement.
The second they saw you, the firing started. You were light and keen on your feet, weaving in between gunshots and following the sparse light of muzzle flashes in that dim warehouse as the sun was only just starting to rise. When that wasn’t enough to collar the rest of them, you activated your visor and followed the heat signatures towards the back of the warehouse. Someone got the better of you with a board of wood that split across your back, but you let the forward momentum carry you as you tucked down and then fired back at an angle that surely blew the guy’s kneecap to shreds.
Pain didn’t bother making itself known, although you did feel just a little bit slower. It was what caused more hand-to-hand than you were comfortable with. Someone’s arms around your neck, a fist in your gut. Something you shook with a jump to disperse the weight, knocking the guy off kilter enough to bend forward and throw him into his buddy. Two for the price of one as you put them both in their place.
Just in time to hear a gunshot you didn’t have time to dodge. But someone did the dodging for you. Your fiance, in fact, dropping down from the warehouse ceiling where he’d no doubt just cut power. The bullet bounced off Iron Man in a ricochet of sparks. “My gun’s bigger.” His voice echoed out as he held a hand out, sending off one clean blast that knocked the attack off his feet and onto his back. “And probably better. Considering your hardware.”
Your smile was tired. “I thought we agreed to keep this quiet.”
He half turned to you. “And I thought you agreed not to get shot.”
“I don’t remember agreeing to that.” You put a hand just over his Arc Reactor.
His helmet slid back, nervous grin waiting there for you on his lips. “Funny. I must have just imagined it, then.” His cold gloved hand touched over yours and the amusement died. “You okay?”
Before you could answer, your lead agent’s voice called over your comm. “Warehouse is secure. All hostiles down. We have the group upstairs cuffed.”
You put a hand to your ear, useless as that was. “Got it. We’re on our way up.”
“Who’s we, ma’am?”
Tony’s eyes strayed a little as he spoke, “Couldn’t let you guys have all the fun.”
“I’m not surprised, Mr. Stark.”
You rolled your eyes with a shake of your head and an even wider smile. Had the two of you gotten that bad? That inseparable that your DC agents had practically planned on Iron Man showing up unannounced? ...well, maybe that wasn’t such a terrible thing. “Shall we?”
Upstairs your agents had a group of eight men on their knees at gunpoint, already in cuffs. Smart. Never knew when these idiots would try something. And they were seething- that was, until you and Iron Man came through the door. Then that rage turned to panicked ice very quickly.
You put your hands on your hips. “Well, gentlemen. Whoever doesn’t want to go to prison for the rest of their life will start talking. Now.”
                                                                 ---
Damage Control established a very tightly controlled kill zone. No information in or out of any of these warehouses. No texts, no emails, no cell phone calls. No media presence. No whiff of anything amiss. To the Board members of Hammer Industries, today was just another regular Tuesday. The first of December. They were in their conference room in that tall building laughing and talking about nothing relevant. Just another day in millionaire paradise.
Burt had delivered the papers. You were a go for hostile takeover.
It was why you and Tony in stellar clean-cut suits burst into their little boardroom, startling everyone into a stand. A little jumpy for businessmen. Then again, when you dealt with black market arms and under the table sales, there was probably cause to be just a little on guard.
But when they saw who it was they eased, only a little. Agape mouths turned to shark-tooth grins. In Tony’s direction. “Ah, Mr. Stark, we weren’t expecting you. This is quite a surprise.”
He put a hand up. “I’m not the one you should be worried about.”
You tossed the rather lengthy book of legal documents, fresh off the press, onto the table where it slid to the center. “Congratulations, gentlemen. You’ve just been bought by Stark Industries. And we’re about to destroy everything you’ve ever cared about.”
Tony put his hands in his pockets. “Probably just profits. Let’s keep it simple.”
Sweating began, and fear started up anew. One of them dared to try getting angry though. “You- you can’t do this!”
You rose to the occasion. “Watch me.” Eying everyone in the room, “I know you thought with Justin gone you were all safe to do whatever you pleased, but I’m here to assure you that’s not the case. I’d also like to let you know that you all have about one sweet minute of freedom remaining. I’d suggest you use it wisely.”
The oldest man in the room sneered. “You’ve got nothing.”
Your smile was cruel and instantaneous. “How much would you like to wager on that? You’re talking to the pros of putting away arms dealers and destroying rogue weaponry.” Realization swept the room. “What? You thought you’d just get away with it?”
One of the men turned to the window. “...so. How much did you pay Hammer for this information?”
“He came to me, actually.” The fact that an offshore account of Stark Industries had just dumped 500k into Justin Hammer’s Seagate commissary had little to do with any of this. That was your parting gift to him. He would have signed regardless. Tony went strangely impassive. “Seems like you poked your little golden goose one too many times.”
Raising your hand, you gave one single snap and ended their worlds. DC agents flooded the room, taking every single man there into custody. None fought physically, though they were all yelling and cursing up a storm. As they were being escorted towards the door, you and Tony stepped aside. Though you did offer, “Anyone willing to donate their bank account to the new Stark Industries initiative to help victims of gang violence will get a couple life sentences shaved off their inevitable sentencing, courtesy of the DA.”
The room emptied out. You and Tony stood still for a minute longer. Just waiting. Taking a breath. Waiting for the edge of anxiety over ending this to calm. He slipped on a pair of his sunglasses and offered you his hand. You followed suit, putting in a dark pair of matching tinted lenses. He gave your hand a squeeze. “Ready, honey?”
You took a deep breath. “Let’s do it.”
Someone had called the media to alert them that something big was happening at Hammer Industries. That someone being you, of course. While they were annoying most every other time, using their frenzy did have its merits in certain situations. Such as the one you were walking out into. Pictures being taken thousands of times over, of every single board member being taken away in handcuffs.
And then all flash-bulbs and microphones were pointed your way as you and Tony stepped out of the office building. Questions were being shouted at you in quick succession. You tried to focus on only the most important ones to your case.
“Can you tell us what this is all about?”
“Stark Industries has just bought- and plans to demolish all Hammer Industries warehouses involving weaponry.”
“Can you tell us why?”
“They’ve been selling dangerous weaponry under the table. Flooding the streets of New York with them. Profit in exchange for blood. We won’t tolerate that.”
“Is Justin Hammer behind this?”
Now this- ...this you had many ways to answer. You could have ignored it, too. Kept your head down. Kept him out of the spotlight. But… “Justin Hammer played a pivotal role in apprehending the men behind this.”
“I’m sorry- weren’t you the one that put him in jail?”
“He put himself in jail. Seems like he’s repenting. He came to me with the information. And New York City will be a safer place for it.”
Justin Hammer was many things. Your enemy? Certainly. A rat? Very much so. But one thing you knew to be true right now… he could handle a little positive spotlight. Maybe it’d do wonders for his rehabilitation.
                                                                ---
The lights of the camera, the electric buzz of the press, the rounding up of criminals that had been in power for far too long, making such a big purchase, the promise to demolish every inch of Hammer Industries off the face of the earth, oh- being shot at, attacked… it had wound your adrenaline into a high fever pitch. Something you didn’t realize until you’d gotten back to your office.
-scratch that. Something you didn’t realize until you realized Tony had followed you into your office.
There was no reason for this. He could have gone back to the labs. He could have gone upstairs. He could have done any number of things that didn’t involve following hot on your heels, closing your office door- locking it- and then standing steady behind you.
His touch to your shoulder turned you halfway around and there you saw it in the darkness of his eyes, the expanse of his pupils swallowing that otherwise gentle brown whole-
He drew a small breath in, lips parting to say something, but there wasn’t really much to say. In the next moment the dam broke and it was tough to tell which one of you had actually made the first move. One of your arms moved around his neck, your other hand at the side of his face, and his hands in turn had grabbed at your hips. Lifting and then sliding further down, cupping your ass and then lowering to squeeze the back of your thighs. Pulling you up against him. Just enough to get your weight off the floor so he could put it wherever he pleased.
Somewhere in the back of your mind you were expecting him to sit you on your desk. That would have been fine. But as his tongue brushed yours and you moaned into his mouth, the next sound out of you was a short startle of surprise. Your back met with a shock of cold glass. He swallowed your gasp and pressed you further- a little harder- against the windows of your office.
Almost instinctively your legs wrapped around his waist in a squeeze and rock forward. He met you there, and what should have been something equally inspiring just drew a frustrated chuckle from your throat. When you had actual control of your voice, “We have too many clothes on for this.”
His lips curved into a smirk somewhere at the corner of your mouth. “Easy fix.”
Tilting your head up, you teased the shell of his ear with the tip of your tongue and then nibbled there lightly. He threatened to melt with a shudder, pressing all the more to you, turning his head the other way. Your words were a warm whisper, “You’ll have to let me go.”
It seemed without much thought he rejected that idea, a small shake of his head. But then he moved back the other way, kiss much softer this time around. Almost pleading somehow. And still as his lips covered yours, “Promise you won’t go far?” Teasing.
So you gave it back, running the lines of your fingers up along his temple and back through his hair. “Never.” One deeper kiss to quell his insatiable tendencies, and then, “I need you.” His hips practically pinned you then, something that shocked a shiver of delight straight through you. But that made it so much harder for him to actually let you down.
You even found yourself unsteady on your feet as he set you there- weaker in the knees still as you caught the sight of him slipping one finger into the knot of his tie and then pulling it in one clean swoop. Such an old trick and yet the sight of it now seemed like it was threatening to undo you. Maybe it was just the way he hadn’t taken his eyes off you. You shrugged out of your own suit jacket and then reached up to his own to push it off him.
His hands were at the sides of your face, unable to stop himself, as he leaned in and kissed you again. Nearly senseless, but you still had enough about you to slide your hands down his chest with quick expertise, pulling every button open without harm. Tony, by contrast, lowered his own hands down to yours and gave a sharp pull, tearing it apart, that had an excited gasp escaping you before you could stop the reaction. The both of you were wound up, there was no reason to pretend otherwise.
It was why you let him help you out of your undershirt, his hands warm and quick along your skin as he touched up across your back, finding the clasp of your bra. One- maybe two seconds before he unhooked it and rid you of it completely. You only just stepped out of your heels by the time he pressed you against the glass again and this time you really did appreciate just how cold it felt. The sizzle that was offset by his warm hands roaming up your sides, one veering off course completely to tilt your chin up so that he could kiss you again.
You were getting so completely lost in him. He was taking charge. Control. And you were very happy to let him. Finding it difficult to do much else. You’d said you’d needed him but he was practicing the art of demonstration. You were only just barely able to get his undershirt off before his hands had lowered to your belt, a little tight at your hips before releasing you. His fingers slowed only a little then, perhaps appreciative in their slide at your hips, hooking your underwear, leaning closer in as he so helpfully guided your last articles of clothing off you.
The kisses slowed. Your arms went around him again. Pressing yourself to him. Begging for him. Utterly lost in him. The sounds of his own belt were quick and clipped. Maybe it was selfish to make him do all the work but he wasn’t complaining. Especially not when his squeezing hands found purchase again at the back of your thighs, lifting you up, holding you there as your legs wrapped around him again. There against the world. So high up where no one could see you-
But the city was gray and picturesque behind you as a light snowfall had just started. The brightness of it illuminating him so completely. Casting shadows everywhere else. The two of you dipped into a reality that belonged solely to you both. No one else existed, as always was the case when you were so wrapped up in each other. His forehead pressed to yours, your own eyes half-lidded and your mouth parted as you drew in gulps of air.
Focused so intensely on the sight of him. That was, at least, until you felt him push you just a little bit more so that he could get a hand around his own cock, seeking that sweet purchase inside of you. The second you felt him there against you you could barely help yourself. The two of you moved at the same moment, both your hips moving forward to meet one another and it sent shockwaves through you, your head falling back just that small amount to the window, eyes rolling closed as his cock sunk deep into you.
The moan that escaped you was something desperate and guttural, eyes shut tight. But that somehow wasn’t enough. “God-” Said on the next gasp for air as you felt him ease just enough back. Then when he thrusted in again it punched another sound through you. Words came quick after that. “-god, fuck me, Tony- hard- don’t stop-” Unable to help yourself. You wanted this. You needed this. Needed to feel him in every available space. Needed him to fill you so completely.
He was keen to comply, pulling out and then slamming in so hard you found yourself thudding against the double-plate glass over and over and over until your brain may as well have been leaking out of your ears in a puddle of mush. Your limbs shivered, legs and arms wrapped so tight around him, trying just to hang on as you felt yourself getting weak yet winding so tight at the same time.
But it was nothing compared to when his lips stole another moan from you, echoed with a deeper, darker noise at the back of his own throat- and then somewhere you felt him steady himself even as he kept fucking you. His forehead pressed to yours again and he murmured one command. “Look at me.”
So you did.
And what you found waiting for you there was the beautiful mess that was Tony Stark when he was so completely lost in you. Those deep, dark gorgeous eyes, the red flush across his face, hair a mess- no telling how many times you’d dragged your fingers through it at this point. But more than just the way he looked- it was the way he felt.
The way his heart seemed to just light up when your eyes locked with his. That was when he was painted so suddenly in that glow. His smile then threatened to undo you completely. But it was what he said, as his lips just barely touched against yours, that finally did, “I love you.” So hot and intimate and said as if nothing truer stood in all the universe.
You tried to hold on to the sight of him but you just couldn’t. Your eyes closed again, holding on to him for dear life as he rocked his hips one last time- heavy and hard, striking deep inside you again. Orgasm was a deep wash, a wave out to sea as it hammered through you. You barely heard yourself- “Fuck- Tony-!” Calling for him just once before the next sounds out of your mouth were just pitched, shaking moans.
It wasn’t enough, though, and soon you drowned. Scenery shifted. No longer held against your office windows but pinned to your desk. He couldn’t seem to stop himself- and that was because you didn’t want him to. Echoes of your voice flitted in and out of your awareness. It wasn’t him- no it was you- as you begged, “Don’t stop- god, please, Tony- don’t stop-”
You felt bruises forming beneath the surface of your skin, somewhere deep in your muscles. Your hips. Your thighs. Your sides. He was holding you so tightly and it was lighting every last nerve in your body. Wrecking you so completely as your whole lucidness only returned as you came again- dizzying as you cried out for him-
And then it wasn’t your desk- it was the couch. It was slower- and you were in control. Sitting atop him, seated fully on his cock as his head tipped back, trying to find you again. And when your eyes blinked open and he saw you, and you realized what he was seeing- almost strange as if you were looking through his eyes-
Your hands were gentle at the sides of his face, dimming both images of yourselves as both your eyes closed. You kissed him deeply, and took him deeper than that with every lift and then rock down of your hips. You held him to you, your left hand moving to the back of his head, pressing yourself to him as best you could. In your mind’s eye you could picture it. The sight of the two of you on the couch so firmly locked in one another.
Maybe it wasn’t just a picture. You were a little just outside yourself it felt like. Watching. Watching as he groaned into your mouth, as his fingers flexed tighter at your hips before his right hand skated up your back, causing you to arch closer on the next firm shift down. Taking his cock in so completely it seemed to steal your breath away.
God. What a sight the two of you were.
Wherever you were then, somewhere just askew in your office, like a fly on the wall, it wasn’t where you found yourself next when you heard his breath catch in the back of his throat. Felt him holding on. But you couldn’t have that. Wouldn’t, in fact. His next groan was shaky, like he was working up the courage to ask you to- ask you to-
Your hand guided his head a little back, fingers careful in his hair, his eyes flickered just a quarter open and you denied him his chance to hold on any longer. “Come for me, Tony…” Kissing him once and then one more time telling him, “Come for me…”
There was nowhere for him to retreat from that. It broke something inside him. His hands grabbed at you as his hips worked up hard. Once in a shiver and then again- and again as you felt him coming inside you. That was all you needed. That deep splash of heat, the way he throbbed inside you. You couldn’t help yourself. Hitched gasps two at least as you couldn’t catch your breath, writhing atop him as your body fell to pieces.
The world went dark for one slow breath in when you could find it. And then came back in drips in the next slow breath out.
You were still atop him. Arms loose around him. His hands were careful and sweet, backs of his fingers brushing along your thighs. Your mouth was on his. Kissing him. Loosely- and then deeply- long sweeps of tongues and shivery moans passed back and forth- then softly again, just little touches of lips. Drowning. Unable to stop yourselves. Not wanting to.
“I love you…” Someone said it first. You weren’t sure who. “I love you…” An answer. Could have been either of you.
His smile brought you back a little more completely from the brink. You felt it first, and then caught sight of it as your forehead pressed to his one last time. There must have been enough time between then and now. He seemed coherent. A little more than you, though. It was why you were surprised to hear what he was thinking about. “Are you still on birth control?”
It stunned and startled you at the same time. And soon you couldn’t keep the helpless and confused giggles from escaping. “Yes- are you worried?” Kisses started anew. Fresh and full of laughter. But he eased you down off that high.
He had something on his mind.
Reaching up, he pushed some of your now damp hair away from your face and then cupped your cheek in his palm. He waited. Waited for you to look at him again and come back. And when you did, that warmth from him as he looked at you- so completely in love- it shook you to your core. “What’s your opinion on stopping?”
It was strange. Maybe even a little surreal… that he was thinking about that now. That he was- ...you held on to him a little bit tighter. Kissed him again. Soft. Slow. Letting him know you weren’t attempting to silence him or move the question around. But just because you needed to before you answered. And when you found enough strength to do so…
“Let’s figure out the wedding first. ...but I’ll think about it.”
Promising. Promising because you would.
Something sparked deep inside him. Exhilaration. Terrified. But most important… just a sense of wholeness. All wrapped up in that undying love for you.
The two of you were just barely hanging on to each other again. And the only words you were able to make out were the only ones that were important-
I love you. I love you… I love you…

I Need You - Ch. 2 (Shades Alvarez x Reader)
Tumblr media
Note: This part is a bit short and there's not that much happening, but I hope you'll enjoy it nonetheless. Also please forgive me any logic errors or grammar mistakes.
Summary: Having arrived at Hernan's apartment, you finally confront him and demand some answers about your mysterious persecutors.
Chapter: 2/? (Chapter 1 is in my masterlist.)
Warnings: none, a bit angsty?
Words: 1031
________________
After all that had happened that night you were just exhausted. Following Hernan up the stairs to his apartment quietly, the only thing you wanted was to sleep. But you were worried and your urge to know more about what this was all about kept you awake.
Hernan turning the key and opening the apartment door brought you back to reality. Holding the door open for you, he let you step in first. A wave of mixed emotions invaded your mind. You had spend so much time here, almost lived here for a while in fact.
But that was all history. You tried to shake off your melancholic thoughts. As if he could read your mind, Hernan smoothly took off his shades, giving you an tight smile. "Make yourself at home!"
You could only answer with a heavy sigh, placing your handbag on the sideboard and getting out of your jacket. Everything felt so familiar but you couldn't let that make you get weak. Not after all that haopened between you. When Hernan made a move to leave into the kitchen, you finally found your words.
"Hernan, we need to talk." He stopped and turned to you. More confidently, you added: "You owe me answers." Now it was his turn to sigh and you could see the frown on his face. "Fine, go sit on the couch, I'll be there in a second, then we talk."
***
Getting a bottle of water and two glasses, Hernan made his way to the living room. As much as he had hoped to have her here again, he really wished the circumstances were easier. Not only was she in trouble, it was also his fault. But he knew he had to tell her, even if that meant she would only despise him more.
Placing the water on the living room table and sitting down next to her, Hernan could feel the tension inside him to grow. He somehow had to manage the situation, had to tell her all that happened, but without making her run from him, without losing control over the situation. Over her.
***
You were done waiting. Arching a brow, you looked at your ex boyfriend expectedly. "So?"
Clearing his throat, he finally began to speak. "The guys that followed you tonight, I might know who they are." Tugging his shirt into place, he continued. "And I might be the reason why they are after you." Hernan was clearly avoiding eye contact with you, which was uncommon for him. But at the moment you were too busy to give attention to that, digesting the new information given to you. "What the hell are you talking about?"
Hernan collected himself, taking a sip of his water. "Alright, back when I was in Seagate the last time, when I first got to know Cage, I was working for a security guard called Rackham. Brought him information about inmates, got certain jobs done for him. In exchange my life in prison was bearable, got me some advantages." You exhaled sharply, trying to keep calm. Hernan had never talked about his time in prison before. 'Got some jobs done', those words were stuck in your mind. Did you really want to know more about that?
Hernan seemed to be insecure how to keep going. After a moment he continued, his voice now steadier but still with a hint of insecurity. "Y/N, I did some fucked up things back at Seagate and even though it feels like in a different life, I tell you, you never leave this shit behind completely. Honestly, I made a couple of enemies back then but when you mentioned that snake tattoo, I remembered two Mexican inmates, Juarez and Leon. I might have made both of them really angry and they have enough reasons to get revenge on me."
Your mouth was dry. You felt like all of this wasn't real. Two of Hernan's ex-inmates using you to get revenge on him? Wasn't that exactly why you left him in the first place? Getting as far away as possible from the crime, the lies, the intrigues. And yet here you were, deeper in than you've ever been before.
And before you had a chance to stop yourself, the words came out of your mouth. "That's why I left, you know? Why I should be far away from you now, from all of this." You could see the hurt clearly on Hernan's face, even though it was there for just a moment, before his intense and calculating stare focused on you again.
"Y/N", his voice, raspy and smooth, reached your ear. You tried your hardest not to meet his gaze. "I understand you, but this doesn't matter right now. They're trying to hurt you because I love you. And that won't change any time soon." You felt a lump form in your throat, as a mixture of confusion and irritation took hold of you. These were the words you were most afraid to hear from him.
"Look, I promise you to take care of this, but in the meantime I need to make sure you're safe. I need you to stay here until this issue is resolved." The way he patronized you made your confusion turn into annoyance. You weren't a child anymore. You laughed dryly. "And do what? Live together with you like nothing happened? Like we're still a thing?" Hernan's jaw tightened for a moment as he fought to stay calm. "No, Y/N. I need you to stay here until I took care of this. Then you're free to go as far away from me as you want."
Hernan's focus was drawn towards his phone, as it vibrated inside his pocket. Checking his phone, he quickly got up. "I need to leave again. You should go to bed, I'll take the couch once I'm back." You simply nodded, overwhelmed by the whole situation and your mixed feelings.
Taking his shades on and walking towards the door, he stopped one last time, turning to you. "I really wish the circumstances of our reunion would be more pleasant." With these words he walked out, leaving you behind more confused than ever.

MCU Spider-Man:
Hom3 Series Prediction
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Everyone wants to know who the next Iron Man is...”
A major theme apart from coming of age and friendly neighborhood hero throughout the MCU Spider-Man Homecoming/Far From Home franchise has been answering this question. Homecoming was made out to be an apprenticeship whereas Far From Home depicts a passing of the mantle. In no way is Spidey out to be Iron Man but the public case is definitely made that the world feels the need to fill the whole made at Tony’s loss while at the same time the figureheads of the Avengers are nowhere to be found even by Nick Fury. This brings about a previous prediction of mine that a character like Mysterio that masquerades as a hero may be setting up more of the kinds as the long rumored Thunderbolts MCU debut or something closer to the Spidey-vest like Norman Osborn and the Dark Avengers. My prediction almost most certainly now turns to a not only a blend of these two but the much anticipated Sinister Six team up as well.
Norman Osborn: I don’t plan on breaking these groups down for those who don’t know but I do invite you to read up on them but just know that “villains impersonating heroes” is relative. Within the MCU the introduction of Norman Osborn is brewing whereas in all Spider-Man franchises the introduction of the Sinister Six has been boiling! The current would-be roster is Michael Keaton’s Vulture Adrian Toomes, Bokeem Woodbine’s Shocker Herman Schultz, Scorpion Mac Gargon, and Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio Quentin Beck. Adding Norman makes five with only some other animal themed muscle from the rogues to round off the Six. I’ve long been saying that Norman does not need to be the Green Goblin to pose a great threat and the Dark Avengers is a great example of that while also answering that marquee question of who will be the next Iron Man. The general public suggestively still sees Tony Stark as genius billionaire playboy philanthropist Hero. Norman Osborn may very well be seen as genius billionaire “Loving Father” philanthropist who has just been missing a suit of his own. The idea of Dark Avengers and Thunderbolts just realizes the vision that Mysterio theorized or that Thaddeus Ross had hoped would come of the Accords which is that controlling the likes of the Avengers makes for the worlds greatest armed forces and therefore a world power.
Citizen V: While Daniel Brühl’s Zemo is set to make his MCU return in the Disney+ Falcon and Winter Soldier series I think he’d be more inclined to run a full time Masters of Evil outright. But the character himself was a villain out to gain public trust in the absence of heroes to disguise from his villainous deeds. Adorned with a literal American Flag cape, the Cap vibes were real for the public. In a similar way Norman wore a red white and blue Iron Man or Iron Patriot suit when leading the Dark Avengers. I suggest for the MCU they merely tweak the two taking an Iron Man suit and designing it differently to look like a new hero while still giving off the Iron Man feels. While this is a grand answer to the question and a quick way to power this doesn’t however give a reason why any Sinister Six member would want in. For one is freedom to those like Vulture and Scorpion who currently rest within Seagate Prison. Then Shocker as with Vulture showed that they’d be willing to do a lot of bad in order to make a buck. The whole theme again is realizing Mysterio’s vision but with much more than projectors to back himself up. And then lastly is classical motive of it to gain public trust to hide villainous deeds. A guy like Scorpion with an extensive criminal record and friends on the outside ready to squish the Bug could really use a cover to get more authorities off his back including getting the jump on Spidey’s “Peter Tingle”.
Phase 4: Of course nothing is without yielding to the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Sinister Six still technically just sits within the friendly neighborhood that is New York State. As it currently stands even with the presence of Black Panther or Doctor Strange somewhere on Earth an active Avengers roster is not necessarily active. In Endgame we saw that Black Widow was keeping up with that responsibility but with her gone it’s unsure. We know that according to Nick Fury that he has no other options such as Strange who’s unavailable Thor who’s offworld and not to evoke the name of Captain Marvel. It makes sense for Falcon and Winter Soldier and an independent Scarlet Witch to be finding their own footings. Ant-Man and Hawkeye should be home enjoying their families. Rhodey could have assumed Avenger leadership but considering his military and Accords history he would seem more likely to support the armed forces and help to reestablish government. Then there’s everyone’s favorite Hulk. The two do have a rich friendship and a mini science bro scene actually was suppose to be in Endgame. Perhaps he could help to uproot the truth. Or perhaps it’s time to introduce New heroes. Various hints at Young heroes have been rooted throughout the MCU and perhaps it’s time for them to as Nick Fury states “to step up or not.” And then of course there’s a potential Spider-Verse because I mean Team Iron Man, Team Cap, The Revengers, who doesn’t want to see some Web Warriors?! But it is worth stating that in the Thunderbolts comic run it was the Fantastic Four alongside memebers of the Avengers who helped to dethrone these false heroes. Now I’m not suggesting we have another Avengers 2.5 like we did in Captain America Civil War but it is possible. But I think we all agree that we want Spidey vs the Sinister Six with or without a little help from friends.

"Well, ain't nothin' could be worst than Seagate." The very prison that destroyed the man Carl Lucas and birthed the man standing before her, Luke Cage, taught him a lesson of toughness and survival that he'd never forget.
"Look, I like ya' Donnie. I ain't like too many folks since gettin' outta that slave home -- but ya' don't need to worry 'bout me so much. Ain't none of them jive knuckle heads can break Power Man." He appreciated her visits to the Gem Theater but it genuinely bothered him when she worried about him because he didn't want to stress her. He respected her. Donna was special to him.

MCU references in the Marvel Netflix shows! Yes, they are canon.
(Disclaimer: I tried to edit the original version of this post to add a new reference to the “Multiple Sources” section since I did not feel like reblogging and wasting an extra part of the post for this. But for whatever stupid reason, mobile Tumblr apparently no longer keeps the original text when you try to edit a post, and I accidentally reposted the original without any text. So I deleted the original post and am doing this again. -_-)
Yes, despite what some ignorant people would say, the Marvel Netflix shows are part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They’re self-contained enough to be their own thing, but they are still part of something greater. IF they were completely separate like some people idiotically assume, then nothing from those shows would have pages on the MCU Wiki or be part of the MCU page for TV Tropes, nor would they be allowed to make references to the larger MCU if they weren’t in it at all.
So I have put together a list of references from the TV shows to the greater MCU. I have broken down my list by each show where a reference was made, as well as making a category of references that run across multiple sources at once. Everything is under the cut.
1. Daredevil:
In the episode “Kingpin”, upon learning how the Anatoly brothers and their fellow Russian mobster mooks failed to stop Daredevil so far, Wilson Fisk’s right-hand man James Wesley derisively mocks the mobsters over their failure with this remark: “If he had an iron suit or a magic hammer, maybe that would explain why you keep getting your asses handed to you.”
Among the headlines in Ben Urich’s office (which later becomes Karen’s office after Urich’s death) in season 1, there are articles written by Urich referencing the “Harlem Horror” (the final battle between Hulk and Abomination in “The Incredible Hulk”, which was also referenced during the first Avengers film and comes up again later in this list) and the Avengers saving the day during the Battle of New York.
Adding to the last part of the previous point, the devastation brought to Hell’s Kitchen from the fallout of the Battle of New York is what allowed Wilson Fisk to grow his influence in the underworld and make a profit off of the reconstruction that took place after all the fighting was done.
2. Luke Cage:
When Pops tries to encourage Luke to use his enhanced strength for good instead of hiding his powers, he gives Luke this advice with the following remark: “You should be out there helping people, like them other fellas downtown.” First heard in the Luke Cage season 1 trailer and in the very first episode, this quote is a clear reference to the Avengers (one of multiple made by this series).
A running gag with the young character Dave “D.W.” Griffith in season 1 revolved around him going into the streets selling bootleg footage of the Avengers in action during the Battle of New York.
Misty Knight’s former (crooked) partner Rafael Scarfe made an interesting statement about the redundancy of the police in New York with the following remark referencing Thor: “Unless this sidearm that I’m wearing suddenly turns into some kind of magic hammer, this whole job is irrelevant.”
Cottonmouth mockingly refers to Luke Cage (to the main character’s face) as “Harlem’s Captain America” when questioning Luke on whether the latter truly thinks of himself as a hero.
Remember when I said earlier that the final battle between Hulk and Abomination was going to be referenced again on this list? Since the “Luke Cage” series is set in Harlem, this is where it unsurprisingly comes up again. Locals in Harlem still remember the battle between the super strong monsters years later. I mean, how could you forget something like that easily?
Multiple references to Hammer Industries technology. Despite its founder still being behind bars (covered later), the company still continues to operate. Like SHIELD and others (such as HYDRA, Vulture’s crew, and a criminal couple who ended up working for SHIELD under an agent who would later go rogue-after Sitwell decided to go against his orders from said rogue agent to kill them for possessing a Chitauri gun), Hammer Industries salvaged leftover Chitauri technology from the Battle of New York to make new weapons out of it. In the show, these weapons include the Judas bullets (which are those rounds fired by Diamondback that were able to actually pierce Luke Cage’s skin). The other notable piece of Hammer tech in the show is Diamondback’s battlesuit, which he wore for the final battle in season 1 when he and Luke fought.
3. Jessica Jones:
In the episode “AKA 99 Friends”, Jessica is contacted by a woman who allegedly wants Jessica to use her investigative skills to follow her cheating husband around. However, this turns out to be a ruse. The woman who called Jessica lured her into a trap and attempted to kill her, the reason being that the woman’s mother died during the Battle of New York. Despite Jessica having no involvement in these events at all, the woman who laid the trap views all superpowered people as freaks-basically a much smaller-scale version of the attitudes shared in “Captain America: Civil War” who see superheroes as people that need to be brought to heel and put on a tight leash.
Shortly after learning about both of them having the power of super strength in common, Luke asks Jessica during their dinner if she knows about any other enhanced people besides themselves and the Avengers. Jessica reveals the existence of Kilgrave to Luke in response.
In the first episode of season 3, Jessica is asked to bring a young girl back to her mother following the divorce of the girl’s parents. As she is getting dragged by Jessica back to her mother, the girl asks the title heroine “Would Captain America do this?” when questioning Jessica’s actions.
4. Iron Fist:
When Danny is initially not believed by his friends Joy and Ward Meachum to be who he says he is after Danny and the Rand family were declared missing long ago, Danny is sent to a psychiatric ward. When Danny explains his title and powers to the doctor assigned to treat him, the doctor responds with a scoffing remark about the frequency of crazy people emerging with claims of possessing superpowers having increased since the emergence of Iron Man.
In season 2, we learn that Mary Walker/Typhoid Mary was held captive in Sokovia for nearly two years prior to her being discharged from the Army following her escape.
5. The Punisher:
Believe it or not, there is a connection between the Punisher series and “Agents of SHIELD”. Many of you may not remember this, but back in season 1 of the latter series, Daisy name-drops one of her old contacts from the Rising Tide hacktivist group she used to be part of: Micro. While the Punisher series itself does not return this reference at all, it is still worth mentioning. Micro was part of the Rising Tide group prior to his eventual recruitment by the NSA, who picked him up after learning of his skills.
6. Multiple sources:
Roxxon has been referenced as an Easter egg multiple times within the MCU canon, such as being featured in “Iron Man 3″ when Trevor Slattery murdered a Roxxon executive on live TV while posing as the Mandarin, and being featured in the first season of “Agents of SHIELD”. The company has also been integral to the plots of the TV series “Agent Carter” and in “Cloak and Dagger”. In the latter series, there are some references to the greater MCU:
Peter Scarborough, CEO of Roxxon in the present day, justifies the company’s attempted extraction of Darkforce and Lightforce energy with this remark while being held captive by Tandy/Dagger: “In this day and age, you need to keep up with the Joneses. As well as the Starks and the Rands.” A clear nod to Tony Stark and Danny Rand.
Detective Brigid O’Reilly reveals that she is originally from Harlem and was part of the local police force there prior to moving to New Orleans. In addition, she mentions a friend named Misty-a clear reference to Misty Knight. What makes this nod even better is when Luke Cage season 2 returns the reference when Misty mentions O’Reilly having moved out of town.
In season 2, Tyrone has a discussion with a friend about Luke Cage when the former finds out his friend cannot read what’s on the newspaper about Cage. The article in question is a “Harlem Rumble” piece about Luke, which is also explicitly mentioned to be written by Karen Page.
Carl “Crusher” Creel AKA Absorbing Man has been referenced in the Daredevil episode “Cut Man” as the young boxer Matt’s father Jack Murdock fought in the ring on the same night the latter was eventually murdered for not throwing the fight. The poster advertising their fight can be seen in the background of Fogwell’s Gym where Jack and, later, Matt, would spend time training. Creel himself appeared as a recurring character in seasons 2, 3, and 5 of “Agents of SHIELD”. In the latter series, Creel’s boxer past was referenced as part of his introduction in the second season.
Seagate Prison has appeared in multiple sources. In “Luke Cage” we know the prison as the one where the title character was sent for a crime he didn’t commit and where he received his powers from Dr. Noah Burstein’s experiments. In the Marvel One-Shot “All Hail the King”, it was revealed that Seagate is also the home to Justin Hammer and Trevor Slattery, following their respective arrests in “Iron Man 2″ and “Iron Man 3″. During the One-Shot, Slattery was interviewed by a documentary filmmaker named Jackson Norris. However, the filmmaker revealed that he was actually an agent of the Ten Rings (whom we all know as the terrorist organization who captured Tony Stark in the first “Iron Man” movie). Norris captured Slattery and extracted him from Seagate with the intent of taking the washed-up actor to meet the former’s master: the real Mandarin, who was not exactly pleased with Slattery’s portrayal of him. Slattery’s final fate after this is unknown.
So the next time someone says the Marvel Netflix shows are “not canon” or “completely separate”, show them this list.
