The Art of Tea: A Journey through Culture, Health, and Flavor
Tea, the second most consumed beverage in the world after water, has a rich and diverse history dating back thousands of years. Beyond being a comforting drink, tea embodies culture, health benefits, and a world of flavors. In this article, we'll take a journey through the world of tea, exploring its origins, its impact on culture, its many health benefits, and the myriad of flavors it offers.
The Origins of Tea
The story of tea begins in ancient China, where legend has it that Emperor Shen Nong discovered tea around 2737 BCE when tea leaves blew into a pot of boiling water he was preparing. Over time, tea became deeply ingrained in Chinese culture, influencing everything from art and philosophy to medicine and daily rituals.
Tea eventually made its way to Japan, where it took on its own unique traditions, most notably in the form of the Japanese tea ceremony, or Chanoyu. This ritualistic practice celebrates the preparation and consumption of matcha, a powdered green tea that emphasizes mindfulness, aesthetics, and respect.
The British also played a significant role in tea's global spread. During the 17th century, the British East India Company began importing tea from China, making it popular in England and eventually leading to the Boston Tea Party in 1773, a pivotal event in the lead-up to the American Revolution.
Tea and Culture
Tea has had a profound influence on the cultures it has touched. In China, tea has long been associated with Confucianism and Daoism, and it has played a central role in various social rituals and ceremonies. In Japan, the tea ceremony is not just a cultural practice but a spiritual one, emphasizing harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility.
In British culture, the tradition of afternoon tea became popular in the 19th century, and it remains a cherished custom today, complete with finger sandwiches, scones, and a pot of Earl Grey or English breakfast tea.
Tea and Health
Beyond its cultural significance, tea offers a wide range of health benefits. The leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, which produces black, green, white, and oolong teas, contain polyphenols, antioxidants, and other compounds that have been linked to various health advantages.
Antioxidants: Tea is rich in antioxidants, such as catechins in green tea and theaflavins in black tea. These compounds help combat free radicals in the body, potentially reducing the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and cancer.
Mental Alertness: Tea contains caffeine, which, though less than coffee, can provide a gentle and sustainable energy boost without the jittery side effects.
Weight Management: Green tea, in particular, is believed to aid in weight management by boosting metabolism and promoting fat oxidation.
Digestive Health: Herbal teas like peppermint and ginger can soothe digestive discomfort, helping with issues like indigestion and bloating.
Stress Reduction: The ritual of making and sipping tea can have a calming effect, reducing stress and promoting relaxation.
Flavors of the World
Tea's diversity goes beyond its cultural significance and health benefits. Different types of tea are created through varying processes, resulting in a wide array of flavors.
Green Tea: Known for its grassy and earthy flavors, green tea is minimally processed, preserving its natural color and fresh taste. Varieties like Sencha, Matcha, and Dragonwell offer distinct profiles.
Black Tea: Black tea, with its robust and bold flavors, undergoes full oxidation. Varieties like Assam, Darjeeling, and Earl Grey showcase the diversity within this category.
White Tea: White tea is the least processed, resulting in a delicate, floral, and slightly sweet taste. Silver Needle and White Peony are well-known white tea varieties.
Oolong Tea: Falling between green and black tea in terms of oxidation, oolong teas are complex and nuanced. They can range from light and floral to dark and rich, with Tie Guan Yin and Da Hong Pao being notable examples.
Herbal and Fruit Infusions: Beyond the traditional tea types, there's a world of herbal and fruit infusions, including chamomile, peppermint, hibiscus, and more, each offering unique and delightful flavors.
Conclusion
Tea is more than just a beverage; it's a cultural treasure, a source of well-being, and a voyage of flavors waiting to be explored. From the serene Japanese tea ceremonies to the bustling British afternoon teas and the myriad health benefits, tea continues to captivate hearts and minds around the world. So, whether you're seeking a moment of tranquility, a boost of energy, or simply a delightful taste experience, a cup of tea is always ready to take you on a journey of culture, health, and flavor.

Benefits of Tea to weight loss
Tea is a wonderful beverage that promotes our general well-being. It possesses numerous medicinal properties and can be used in many culinary preparations such as making desserts or iced teas. Our ancestors drank tea for thousands of years before we even knew about the health benefits! Hopefully we continue that tradition by drinking more healthy beverages like tea!

Chun Mee Green Teas in Mauritania
West Africa is located between the Sahara Desert, Lake Chad and the Gulf of Guinea. West Africa generally includes Mauritania, Western Sahara, Senegal, Gambia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Niger, Nigeria, and Canary Islands, etc., a total of 17 countries and regions.
West Africa is located in or around the Sahara Desert, the largest in the world. Its climate and people's dietary characteristics are similar to those of Morocco and other countries in North Africa. Therefore, most people here also like to drink tea. They are used to adding sugar and mint leaves (or juice) when drinking tea.
Tumblr media
Mauritania is located in the west of the Sahara Desert in Africa. More than 90% of the country's territory is desert area. It is a country mainly based on animal husbandry. It is said that the history of tea drinking in Mauritania originated in the 16th century, and was first introduced from Spain.
According to annual statistics from the World Tea Association, Mauritania imported $24.06 million in tea from China in 2021. Mainly medium to high-end chun mee green teas such as 41022, 41022AAA, 8147 and so on.
Drinking green tea is an ingrained habit in the lives of Mauritanians. Due to the dry and hot climate, people are prone to fatigue, and the living habit of eating beef, mutton, and camel milk as staple food has led to uneven nutrition. Tea can help digestion, cheer up the spirit, eliminate fatigue, and supplement vitamins.
In Mauritania, there is also the etiquette of "serving tea when guests come". When knowing that guests are coming to visit, the host will prepare tea in advance. In traditional customs, tea is usually brewed.
Mauritanians like drinking strong sweet tea. In this Islamic country, people start drinking tea after praying every morning. Usually, tea leaves are put into a small porcelain pot or a small copper pot to be boiled and drank. After the tea boils, sugar and fresh mint leaves are added, and then the tea juice is poured into a glass the size of a wine glass and it is ready for drinking. The color of the tea is like coffee, and the tea tastes sweet and mellow, with a refreshing mint flavor. Mauritanians need about 30g of tea leaves once to make tea, and the quality of the tea leaves is required to be strong and moderately flavored, and the color of the soup will remain unchanged after multiple times of brewing. They like tea with a darker color, so if the tea is stored for a longer period of time, it will become more popular. Mauritanians generally drink tea three times a day, three cups each time, and on holidays, they drink tea more than ten times.
Tumblr media
Basic etiquette can only be completed after three rounds of tea between host and guest. The first round is a cup of tea soup with a small amount of mint, strong and bitter flavor, followed by a slightly sweet tea soup with more mint flavor, and finally a cup of tea soup with sweet and strong mint flavor. Generally, 3 to 4 sugar cubes are placed in a small cup of tea.
"Three rounds of tea" is a traditional tea drinking custom, but now some Mauritanians are no longer so particular. Drinking tea is basically based on personal needs, and most of them use the method of brewing.
Due to the high temperature and dryness, Mauritania is not suitable for growing tea. So far, it has no self-produced tea and relies entirely on imported tea, most of which is imported from China.

Compared with people who drink boiled water for a long time and people who drink tea for a long time, whose body is healthier?
Tumblr media
Water and tea are both common drinks in life.
The life activities of the human body are inseparable from water as a support.
At any time, water will participate in human metabolism,
It can be said that without water there is no human life.
Compared with people who drink boiled water for a long time compared with people who drink tea for a long time,
Who is healthier?
How to choose boiled water and tea?
A healthy adult accounts for about 60% of the water in the human body, and a healthy child has a relatively higher proportion of water in the body, about 80%.
If a person does not consume food for a long time and only relies on the various nutrients and energy stored by himself to maintain the continuous consumption of the body's life activities, the survival is usually about 7 days. If a person does not drink water for a long time, after only three days or so, he will almost face the choice of life and death.
The importance of water in the human body is self-evident. If the human body loses more than 10% of water, it will cause serious damage to its own health. If the water loss of the human body exceeds 20%, there will be a threat to life safety, so it is very important to pay attention to hydration.
Tumblr media
Compared with the past, the current living conditions have been significantly improved, and there are various ways to supplement water. For example, most elderly people like to drink tea in their free time, and younger children are more fond of various carbonated beverages. In fact, among all kinds of beverages that are in daily contact, boiled water is the healthiest in terms of universality.
long-term tea
Tea can be made by steeping tea leaves, which is a natural ingredient without chemical processing and no other products added. After drinking tea, it can promote human urination and play a certain diuretic effect. When edema occurs, it can effectively relieve symptoms.
Tumblr media
Precautions for drinking tea
Avoid brewing tea multiple times
The number of brewing times of tea is limited to a certain extent. After most of the tea leaves are brewed about three or four times, the tea juice components in them will be obviously insufficient, and new tea leaves should be replaced in time.
Drink less tea
Theophylline content in strong tea is too high, compared with other teas, it is more irritating, and drinking a lot of it can easily lead to insomnia.
Don't drink too hot tea
If the temperature is too high in the process of drinking tea, it is easy to cause burns, which will seriously irritate the stomach, esophagus, throat and other tissues and organs. In particular, a person who does not pay attention to the temperature of the tea for a long time and often drinks too hot water will increase the risk of local lesions.
Foreign studies have found that if a person drinks tea for a long time when the water temperature is above 62°C, the gastric mucosa will be damaged to a certain extent, and diseases will inevitably occur. Under normal circumstances, people should keep the temperature of tea water not exceeding 56 ℃ during the process of drinking tea.
Drink boiled water for a long time
Metabolism in the human body needs to be carried out by water, and maintaining sufficient drinking water can improve the formation of metabolic functions, accelerate the absorption and utilization of nutrients in food, and can also play a certain role in regulating body temperature.
Drink an appropriate amount of boiled water every day, in the process of urination and sweating, it can regulate the body temperature while expelling toxins from the body and reduce the adverse effects.
Tumblr media
Precautions for drinking boiled water
A small amount of time
The amount of water you drink at a time should be controlled within 200 ml, and at the same time avoid drinking too fast, so that it can be better absorbed and utilized by the gastrointestinal tract. If you drink too much water at one time, the excess water is prone to waste.
Avoid drinking water until you feel thirsty
When a person feels thirsty in daily life, it has already indicated that the body is dehydrated, and the degree of dehydration is about 2%. When it exceeds 10%, health will inevitably be negatively affected, so everyone should actively drink water in daily life.
The daily water intake is controlled at more than 1500 ml
In the process of life activities, the human body loses about 2500 ml of water in a day. If you maintain a normal diet, the amount of water replenishment is about 1000 ml. This requires everyone to drink at least 1500 ml of extra water in daily life to ensure that the body's water and fluid metabolism is maintained in a balanced state.

24.09.2023 // All I need to make a study session good (or at the very least bearable) is some good music, a coffee and a calming environment (ideally a cafe or library). I've been trying to get through some haematology revision, which I'm really enjoying even though it's really complicated.

herbal teas guide —
🌿🍃 having conversations with my mutuals all over the world, i was stunned to find out that not every country/culture practices drinking herbal teas for health issues. as a slavic person i decided to create this little guide because – and i'm saying this as a skeptical person who hates superstitions – they really work. 🌿🍃
mint tea (mentha piperita) is for digestion and relaxation chamomile tea (matricaria chamomilla) is for digestive system horsetail tea (equisetum arvense) is for skin, hair, nails condition, remineralization and circulatory system linden tea (tilia cordata) is for a cold lemon balm tea (melissa officinalis) is for relaxation and sleep nettle tea (uritca dioica) is for urinary tract sage tea (salvia officinalis) is for when your throat or teeth hurt fennel tea (funiculum vulgare) is for digestive system white mulberry tea (morus alba) is for carbohydrate metabolism pansy tea (viola tricolor) is for clean skin and body detox purge tea (cistus incanus) is for immunity hawthorn tea (crataegus monogyna) is for heart and circulatory system damian leaves tea (turnera diffusa) is for anxiety and libido dandelion tea (taraxacum officinale) is for liver, stomach and digestion st john's wort tea (hypericum perforatum) is for emotional balance, good mood, digestive system and kidney function
🌿🍃 to create this guide i was using a booklet from my pharmacy store. if you google them, you will find out that each of these have even more usage methods than the ones listed. 🍃🌿
🌿🍃 if you're from a different country/culture and you know more herbal teas like these, feel free to add them. 🍃🌿

[I can't remember the original prompt posters  for the life of me but here's a mashup between a cryptid!Danny, presumed-alien!Danny, dp x dc, and the prompt made the one body horror meat grinder fic.]
PART ONE is here PART TWOis here PART THREE is here PART FOUR is here and PART FIVE is here PART SIX is here and PART SEVEN is here PART EIGHT is here PART NINE is here PART TEN is here PART ELEVEN is here PART TWELVE is here PART THIRTEEN is here PART FOURTEEN is here PART FIFTEEN is here PART SIXTEEN is here and we're limping into part 17...
💚 Ao3 Is here for all parts (now featuring mediocre mouseover translations, only available on a computer)
Where we last left off... Two! Words! In! English!!! And a television? Hardcore!
Trigger warnings for this story:  body horror | gore | post-dissection fic | dehumanization (probably) |  my nonexistent attempts at following DC canon. On with the show.
💚👻👽👻💚
Danny can raise his head now.
Only a little. It still hurts his neck for a while after. But his arms and his head both rise, now. His fingers curl, now, too.
The result is that Danny can now watch and change his own television channels. No more news! Now it’s all Food Network, all the time, baby. The result is that sometimes the doctors tending to him get distracted by various pasta dishes, but also. Danny is also distracted by various pasta dishes.
And roast chicken.
And fried potatoes. Every potato ever, actually.
…It makes eating his oatmeal a more awful ordeal.
“Aw, dyrling, na þa sæd egean,” the lady says to him, spoon at his lips. Danny weakly moves his arm towards her, but only manages to hit her elbow with the heel of his thumb. “Inne cwic tima, gise? Hiere þa læce.”
Danny is pretty sure his face is a nightmare to look at at the moment, but he still makes the world’s saddest expression at the lady, because she hasn’t blasted him or hit him or even sedated him yet, and he needs something. Anything.
He’s pretty the lady makes an equally sad look under her medical mask, but Danny is hungry and he’s tired all the time and he’s sad and he wants a cheeseburger. Or fries. Or…or anything at all!
Danny’s look gets progressively sadder, and the lady gets progressively sadder to match, and then they’re both just looking at each other so very sadly until a doctor physically has to cut between them to reach for Danny’s green-speckled blankets.
Ugh. Great. Now he’s cold too. He can’t quite muster a glare, but the doctor gets an extremely stern squint from him for their “help”.
The only response Danny gets is a half-strangled laugh. That is not the response Danny needs. He needs immediate respect and a Nasty Burger number two special.
And a new blanket.
“—Eall dæg?” the doctor asks the woman, but not Danny, and then he has to listen to everyone talking about him in a weird language without even pretending to ask for his input. It’s extremely annoying, and Danny half-considers falling asleep to avoid it. His gaze slides back to the television. He’s just as capable of ignoring everyone else as they are. He bets it sucks. He hopes it sucks.
They talk for a while, but then the lady takes the oatmeal away—and hey! Danny’s eyes widen and sting from the stretch. Uh. Maybe he didn’t think this one through. He’d still thought he’d get lunch out of this.
Um. He would like to continue to receive meals. But he’s watching her walk out with his oatmeal, which is the only human food that’s ever been given to him here, and…
Danny’s stomach cramps. It’s probably just anxiety.
He wishes he’d eaten the stupid oatmeal.
The doctor stays with him, setting the blanket into a laundry bin and checking over Danny’s body (ew) (gross) (nasty) for whatever they have to check on him, and Danny tries to go intangible at least four times during the check only to get oWOUCHOW jerks inside his core. At least one time, he flickers invisible. Not much, he thinks. Probably just an arm and the chunk of his torso.
The doctor pauses. Danny waits for things to (start to hurt) get worse.
“Mæg Ic?”’
…Danny doesn’t move. It hurts to breathe. Every time air scrapes through his nose and mouth, it burns a little more.
The doctor doesn’t move.
So they just.
Wait.
“Mæg Ic?” the doctor asks again.
They move very, very slowly. They touch him, and his—skin—and they rotate him to check underneath him. If they find something of whatever it is they’re monitoring him for, he gets wiped down with something gooey and wiped clean, and sometimes he even thinks they bandage him.
Danny wishes he had a bath. A whole, real bath. Where he could wash his own hair. And wipe off whatever this goo is.
When they’re done, the lady comes back in.
The sound of the door latching shut makes Danny flinch. Is she going to punish him? She walks to his bed. With her medical mask over her face, Danny can’t see if she’s visibly mad at him or not. She doesn’t look mad though…does she?
She stands to his good side, presumably so that Danny can see her. The oatmeal is back—it looks kind of gloopy, though, like it’s been badly reheated. The lady shows something to the doctor, who makes an irritated groan, and then they start talking to each other again. She cuts off to show him something, though—
Danny blinks. She’s showing it to Danny. He…looks down at it.
It looks like a mustard packet. It’s a black packet with yellow streaks, with writing on it with those letters Danny’s never seen before coming here, and it takes his eyes a second to focus on the package before realizing that there’s a little bee and pot on one end of the packet.
Oh. It’s honey?
Oh!
…Oh!!
Danny jerks upright, and, OW, and he definitely scares the lady and the doctor who rush to settle him but there’s honey?? Flavor??? His food can taste good again??!
He wheezes— and slaps a stinging hand onto the packet. “Pl’s?” he begs. He’d stopped begging in the old labs, no one there had listened to him—and he’d stopped begging for them to be gentle, to stop hurting him, to let him go. But for food. For food that tastes, Danny might do anything. Anything. “P’lease? Ple’se? Pleese?”
“Pleece?” the woman repeats, baffled. The word doesn’t mean anything to her; she’s only repeating the sounds. But Danny can’t stop begging.
“P’lease?”
“Pleece? Pleace?”
“Please?!”
“Awrite þis,” the woman mutters, and the doctor leaves. “Bist wel. Eom hebbjan eower wist. Es wel.”
And that still means nothing to him, but the lady gently lifts him up until his back can lay on the pillows, and he can sit more than lay. Danny watches in raspy silence as she rips the packet open and dumps the contents into the oatmeal. She stirs with gloved hands, ensuring that the packet is equally distributed. And then there’s a glob on her spoon, and the spoon to his lips.
Danny takes a bite. Tears well.
“Shhh,” the woman coaxes. “Wanian ma?”
Ma sounds kind of like more. Danny opens his mouth, and is rewarded with another spoonful.
He doesn’t start crying in earnest until the bowl is gone. But that’s alright. The lady finds tissues, somewhere, and he gets to look into her human-blue eyes as she carefully dries over and around his still-soft, green-edged wounds.
It’s a very nice gesture.
Danny sobs a little harder.

I've given myself heat exhaustion AGAIN (heck, I hope it's only heat exhaustion, rip) and I am not here for it ffs so to make sure y'all know about it, imma share the signs of heat exhaustion!
Heat exhaustion is quite literally your body getting too hot and Exhausting itself to cope. Heatstroke is your body Failing To Cope.
Heat Exhaustion signs include:
You get a headache that Will Not Go Away
You feel confused and dizzy (balance who? Idk her)
You don't feel hungry but you feel sick as well (this sucks and happens a lot in high heat so try and snack regularly)
Sweating and clammy skin like the kind that has people go "you're freezing!" because you've sweated so much you literally end up with a chill on your skin
Cramps. Feckin cramps. Arms. Legs. Stomach. They suck ass.
You have a heckin fast pulse or you're hyperventilating like you've just had a Scare
Your body temp is over 38°c (because you're literally boiling like a lobster in a pot)
You are Beyond Thirsty and no matter what you drink it Does Not Abate
If you end up experiencing any of these symptoms, or multiple, and you're in a hot/warm environment, then sit your ass down in the shade, get something to drink, and get a damp cloth on your head or a change of clothes that are cool.
Basically, stop what you're doing and give your body a chance to Not Keep Boiling
Heat exhaustion is NOT THE SAME as a heatstroke.
Heatstroke is So Much Worse™.
Heatstroke signs include:
Still feeling like utter shite 30 minutes after you sat your ass down, rested in a cool place, and rehydrated
Not actually sweating even though you really do feel like a lobster in a pot that has the heat up High
Your body temp is 40°c+ (which is bad btw, that's temp for causing your to pass out etc)
Hyperventilating/fast breathing or actual shortness of breath (I struggle with this because asthma so I'm always like "idk if I got this oops)
Feeling confused but in a like "I don't know what's going on, I can't think, I have no idea about anything, someone help me please I'm crossing into traffic and don't even realise" way
Having a fit/seizure because your body temp is so high your brain is Actually Getting Boiled In Your Skull 🙃 [upside down smiley emoji]
Passing out and not actually responding or waking up from a brief fainting spell (this is the Serious™ kind of passing out that has doctors going "oh shit, we need an IV STAT!" or whatever it is they say when Shit Is Going Down)
Heatstroke can be really dangerous if it isn't treated quickly so please don't ignore these signs. Right now, I'm in a cool environs, with hydration, and am avoiding moving and am gonna have a nap because I'm going very dizzy, can't focus properly, have a headache, and am only coherent here because I'm HyperFocusing on this post. I can't even understand words being said to me right now hence nap, hydration, and cool environs.
So please, y'all, take care of yourselves. Seriously.
