Appearances of Secrets of the Magic Makers throughout Frozen Stories
One of my favorite tiny details in Frozen is the book Secrets of the Magic Makers (which is also where my username comes from 😂). It is never mentioned directly in the movies or shorts, although it is briefly shown in F1. (I’ll get to that in a minute.) It is mentioned in two of the three major Frozen books, but Forest of Shadows has the most about it.
Dangerous Secrets mentions SOTMM a few times, but never by name. Iduna and Agnarr choose a random map from the secret room to follow to the Valley of the Living Rock. I believe this is the map tucked into SOTMM in F1 because DS says on the night Anna got hurt, Agnarr runs straight for the secret room and pulls out the same map from “the old folklore book” where he’d hidden it after his and Iduna’s adventure. It also says that the map belonged to Rita. I’m not sure if it belonged to her necessarily, but I guess she must have known about it. Later, after Elsa and Anna were separated, Iduna spent many hours in the secret room searching for answers about Elsa’s magic. She translated many of the “old books and scrolls” she found in the secret room, one of which was definitely SOTMM, because when Anna finds it in FoS, she recognizes her mother’s handwriting in the translations in the margins.
FoS definitely has the most SOTMM mentions by far. In fact, it is the only thing in all of Frozen that ever mentions its name. In FoS, Anna finds it in the secret room. (and she definitely can’t read the runes, she thinks of them as “indecipherable symbols”). The book itself is described as “beautiful brown with black lettering,” which perfectly matches what we see in the movie. The most thorough description is soon after she finds the book. It says: “Secrets of the Magic Makers seemed to be a book of old tales, brief histories, and maps showing the way to the Valley of the Living Rock, but also a glossary of sorts, naming all kinds of creatures that only existed in lore. Spirits of wind, water, and fire. Earth Giants.” It also says that Anna remembers these “bedtime-story words” and that she has vague memories of her mother telling her stories and reading, possibly from this book. In the next couple of chapters it also says SOTMM contains “scraps of research that had not yet been bound in,” a map of Arendelle and the surrounding area with the Black Beach circled, and tales of “shape-shifters who lived with herds of reindeer; talking trees; draug; and boys who were no larger than a thumb. There were pages and pages of the unknown language, and every so often an illustration accompanied the symbols.” It also says that Iduna “skipped translating the pages with the more creepy-looking sketches.” There is also a section that details the Saga of Aren with sketches of some of his deeds. And SOTMM obviously also contains the spell that is said to release the Nattmara in the first place.
Now, back to the mention in F1. After Anna gets hurt, we see Agnarr’s hands as he searches for a specific book. When he pulls it out, we can see the title and one page inside, all written in Younger Futhark runes.
Tumblr media
The title of the book he pulls out translates roughly to Runes of Knowledge. (Source: https://lingaspect.wordpress.com/2014/03/13/deciphering-the-runes-book-in-frozen/) BUT I believe it is intended to be the same book, and SOTMM is just the English title because of this image:
Tumblr media
This is from the inside jacket of a book(?) the directors gave to the crew after production of F2. It has the exact same runic title as the book Agnarr pulls out and it also has the English title as SOTMM. (Obviously I know this gift isn’t canon-worthy, but I think it shows the INTENTIONS of the directors well enough to confirm that it is the same book.)
So yeah, this was every mention I could find of SOTMM in official Frozen media! If you notice I missed any, please let me know, as it’s been a while since I read the books all the way through. SOTMM is one of the things I have a strange obsession with and I wish SO MUCH that I could actually read it. I’ll post an analysis of the runes in SOTMM soon too, as they are also VERY interesting and a personal fascination of mine!

A multi-generational saga courses across the pages of Ædnan, by Sámi-Swedish author Linnea Axelsson, translated from the Swedish by Saskia Vogel. The verse epic follows an Indigenous Sámi family who have herded reindeer for generations, as the forces of colonialism and modern development of their ancestral lands threaten their culture and livelihood. The story is told by a small chorus of characters from the 1910s through the current day, and we become especially close to Lise, who left her Sámi family, following her brother Jon-Henrik, to be educated at a residential school for “Nomad” children. This excerpt from Chapter XII takes place in the early 1970s, along the Great Lule River Valley, where the state-owned Vattenfall company was developing hydroelectric resources, and Lise is graduating into a world unimaginable to her parents.
. .
The river climbed silently up the hills
as soon as Vattenfall whistled it came creeping:
Streamed backwards up its deep channel and drowned the earth
When the great Suorva Dam for the third time was to be regulated
Entreaty
shone from Mama’s eyes
She explained clearly to the Swedes
that the fishing will suffer if the water rises
There was probably no one who understood what she was saying
– –
After the social studies lesson I went with the others to sit on the gymnasium floor
Almost all of Malmberget’s students had been dismissed from class
– To participate in the miners’ strike meeting
 –
Someone had heard that Olof Palme was coming
that he would travel all the way up here
To the mining company’s and Vattenfall’s world the one that he himself had helped build
It is what he is guarding
It is all that he can see
The mine boss’s voice
flowed wildly above the crowded hall which was hot with bodies
His voice was so robust his conviction so intense
I glanced at Anne who was sitting beside me leaning against the wall bars
and she smiled back at me
Soon we would be leaving school too
And could start working join the union
You took the job you wanted that’s all there was to it
–
Switchboard cleaner or cook
with the old folks at the Pioneer or the children in day care
– –
I spend the weekend up at Mama and Papa’s
I stand with Jon-Henrik
 –
Watching the river flow murky across the slope
That brushy slope
where he and I used to go it’s underwater now
 –
How are our tracks ever to be heard Among the Swedes’ roads and power stations
It’s Jon-Henrik who says this he had also been drawn down to the dam
To work for Vattenfall as soon as school was done
 –
I’m surprised when he says
That he’d preferred to have taken up with the reindeer
Been elected into the Sámi community
And learned to guide that wandering gray soft ocean across the world of the fells
Just as the lot of us were once taught at the Nomad School that this is what the Sámi do
that this is how we all live
He laughs and says:
Who knows what the spring flood will bring with it
this drowned  earth may yet be fertile

My hot(?) animation takes
don't take these too seriously, just my opinions. Inspired by my friend @ginger-snap-talkin-nonsense's hot take saga thingy but less ig idk lol.
the future of animation is actually in a more interesting position than it was in the 2010s, thanks to the strikes and the pulling of animation from many "mainstream" services, I am expecting a huge rise in indie stuff.
2010s animation focusing more on lore than making enjoyable media has hurt animation more in the long run than helped. While this may seem like it could clash with my first statement, I think the first statement would have never happened if most series stuck to making enjoyable media that has some lore beats than making lore beats with no backdrop. This has caused companies to overall be more cautious even picking up series due to multitudes of reasons. While the prospect of indie animation is exciting, it will also lesser the chances of most animation getting good amount of attention.
Animation "fans" disrespecting offbeat shows like Fanboy and Chum Chum, Johnny Test, Teen Titans Go, and more is a crime. If those shows aired during the 90s, you would see them being called cult classics or built up as shows that made peoples childhoods. But because they aired during times where people wanted "better cartoons" AKA lore shows, they got the short end of the stick that they didn't deserve. Killing off an entire genre that made up cartoons for years for a good decade.
The 2000s was the most interesting era of cartoons, due to how many varieties there were and how many obscure cartoons there were. I can't think of any other era where multiple Canadian shows could get as much airtime as American ones. Where multiple companies tried to make original movies on DVDs, with a variety of quality. Where movies like "Grandma got Run Over By a Reindeer" and "Hoodwinked" could even exist. The amount of variety is insane when taking a deeper look, and besides the early years of animation, I don't think there has been any other era with that much variety before or since.
Chicken Little isn't that bad and isn't Disney's worst by a long shot. Home on the Range is way worse in every way
Total Drama Pakitew Island is one of the best seasons of the show
That's all I can think off my head.

Spoilers for several female characters’ arcs, including Arlong Park and Dressrosa
One Piece is the best-selling manga of all time, full stop. Its mangaka, Oda Eiichiro, is one of the highest-earning authors of all time, taking second place as a comics author only to Garfield creator Jim Davis. While other titans of the industry like Naruto and Bleach have finally ended their original sagas, One Piece remains ongoing. After nearly twenty-five years of serialization, Oda’s epic has had a huge impact on its fans and the manga industry as a whole.
But while One Piece looms large in the present and past, conversations about how Oda treats women have often taken place on a surface level. Oda started out his career by including women in prominent and active roles in his stories. As time went on, his vindictive nature towards fans meant he started taking out the criticisms he received on his female characters and fans alike,  undoing the good work he had done in the series’ early days.
Oda’s relationship to gender isn’t static, and his early work in One Piece is quite different from what he’s producing now. In the beginning, Oda’s women are positive, if flawed, examples of female characters. While no character design in One Piece can truly be called “realistic,” its women were complex people with believable proportions. As the series went on, however, he began punishing female fans demanding better representation by diminishing women’s roles.
Examples of his attitude near the beginning of One Piece’s run are present in the SBS, the long-running Q&A section featured in most One Piece volumes featuring Oda’s often unfiltered sentiments.
D: Were there really woman pirates? O: Yes, there were. But it was considered bad luck to bring a woman on board a ship in those days, and so many of them disguised themselves as men. There were two woman pirates, Mary Read and Anne Bonny, who were said to have fought more bravely than any man. By the way, my character Alvida was based on a female pirate named Awilda (or Alvida) who formed a pirate crew comprised entirely of women. (Chapter 50, Page 124)
Oda is citing his sources and giving reasons why women belong in the One Piece world. It’s unnecessary—he is, after all, creating a fantasy universe where a boy made of rubber fights bad guys, so why should he need to justify female characters existing—but shows that Oda’s done his research and believes female pirates belong in his universe.
This is most clearly seen in Nami, the first (and for years, the only) female member of Luffy’s crew, the Straw Hats. Her role is that of the navigator, which occupies a tremendously important position; however, her combat abilities lag far behind the others’ from the very beginning.
Nami is also a money-grubbing thief, a role that paints the only major female character before Robin’s introduction as a duplicitous femme fatale in blue and white stripes instead of slinky dresses. Robin also fits this stereotype–she’s just better at it.
While Nami’s not the only member of the Straw Hats whose primary abilities aren’t physical combat, compare her company. Usopp may run at the first hint of a fight, but his skills lie in long-range combat as a sniper. While Chopper may primarily be a physician (and reindeer), he can still turn into a bulked-up version of himself in a pinch. Nami has her baton, but she uses it rarely and usually in last-ditch scenarios that end in defeat.
When Nami’s engagements in combat don’t end in defeat, it’s usually because she’s fighting against other women. Women versus women is a trope in long running shounen of this era – watch Naruto and count how many times a woman beats a man head-on. While these battles may be compelling narrative, in One Piece they’re not treated as serious battles compared to the “real” fights, which are Luffy or Zoro or Sanji fighting against the big bad of the arc. It feels like many female villains are only created to give Nami something to do during climactic battles.
The thing is, though, Oda is a good enough writer that he complicates any simple reading of Nami as a sexist caricature. Nami’s backstory, as played out at Arlong Park, is one of the most emotionally affecting parts of the East Blue Saga. Nami spends the first several arcs backstabbing and double-crossing Luffy & Co. for her own goals. She’s had to go it alone for years, and can’t trust anyone on her path of freeing herself from a tyrant. Asking Luffy for help is a moment of genuine character growth for a woman who has been forced to see everyone but herself as a mark.
Nami’s deceased mother figure, Belle-Mère, is also a huge part of this arc, and significant time is spent on her backstory. Belle-Mère is a former military officer, a fighting woman who adopted two orphaned children fresh out of the Marines. Despite her self-sacrificing death, she is presented as both morally and physically intimidating, her kind personality offset by nerves of steel.. As Oda explained in another SBS segment, even Bell-mère’s distinctive hairstyle is indicative of the way Oda writes her.
O: That hairstyle is called “Women have Guts”. You should yell it out in a beauty parlor. (Chapter 87, Page 128)
O: That hairstyle is called “Women have Guts”. You should yell it out in a beauty parlor. (Chapter 87, Page 128)
Sure, the hair is ugly, but it’s a clear indicator that he sees women as capable of possessing the same drive and fighting spirit as men.
There are also other female figures important to the Straw Hats’ backstories, such as Zoro’s formative childhood rival, Kuina. Zoro was never able to beat Kuina growing up, but Oda’s writing presents Zoro’s inability to win against Kuina as a result of his age: because he had not yet hit puberty, he couldn’t beat his rival in a fight. Kuina expressed sorrow and frustration that Zoro would eventually surpass her after he hit puberty, something she viewed as unavoidable due to her gender. Her death is Zoro’s primary motivation behind becoming the world’s greatest swordsman, but the potential for her character is never realized.
This arc sets so much up, not just for Zoro but for the series’ approach to women. The way moving forward seems obvious—presenting an adult woman who challenges Zoro as he is now, thus resolving his childhood trauma—but the series fails to do that… despite introducing Sergeant Tashigi, a swordswoman foil to Zoro who looks exactly like Kuina.
Although Tashigi initially seems like the obvious rival for Zoro, he instead remains overwhelmingly her superior while her position in the Marines is undermined by gendered condescension, with her troops sacrificing their lives to protect her rather than trusting in her skill. She’s not an asset; she’s a liability.
Despite laying the groundwork to defy Kuina’s internalized gender stereotypes through Tashigi, Oda uses her incompetence to justify them. Kuina has a fighting spirit and is thus sad she’s a woman. Instead of showing the reader that this is wrong through the narrative, Oda’s writing agrees with her.
It’s not that Oda thinks women don’t have the heart for it. This is said in his own words in the SBS:
D: HI!! Eiichi! You said in Volume 27 that the Jaya arc was “A man’s romance”?! As a woman of 18 years, how would you define my “burning passion for adventure” and “infinite dreams”?! And all my blood goes to my head when I read your manga!!! Take responsibility for it!!! Please take responsibility and include the girls, too. From Her New Nye Co. O: A woman’s romance? No, it’s a bit complicated. The word “man” is sometimes used like an adjective. Really good women have men in themselves. You call them “chic”. So I’ll scream it once again: Men and women can use “A MAN’S ROMANCE”!! Women are included!! (Chapter 263, Page 164)
What limited Oda in these early days was not the idea that women don’t want to fight, but the belief women are fundamentally physically weaker than men.
There are women throughout the story, but Kuina’s belief that puberty will strip her of all her advantages is repeatedly proven right as the plot develops. Sergeant Tashigi isn’t a satisfying successor to Kuina’s early death because she doesn’t follow through on the set-up for Kuina’s storyline or being a rival to Zoro. Instead, she proves that a fighting spirit can’t overcome the physical weakness of being a woman.
In Oda’s world, women lack the same prowess in combat as male characters despite the presence of magic Devil Fruit powers. Physically imposing women like Alvida and Big Mom are mocked to the point of inhumanity for their appearances and weight, while attractive women are rarely powerful. In the rare case a woman manages to be both powerful and attractive, like Robin, they mysteriously miss all the action.
Early One Piece isn’t perfect, but there was solid ground to build on. Oda could have grown into his female characters. He already understood the hard part, after all: that women strive for the same human desires of fighting and protecting as men.
Even with issues this endemic, Oda ultimately humanizes the women who populate the East Blue. He clearly understands that women have motivations: that they love and hurt and hate and desire for vengeance all on their own. Oda knows—or at least expressed, back in the late 1990s and early 2000s—a clear understanding that women are people, with all the messy results this entails.
But instead of listening to the negative feedback he started receiving, Oda doubled down.
I don’t think Oda hates women. It’s simpler than that: Oda doesn’t like it when people read his characters in ways he didn’t intend. He’s said it himself in interviews. On some level, I can’t blame him. It’s frustrating when readers misconstrue something you’ve written. In an interview at Color Walk 6 in 2014, Oda said:
“I get annoyed to hear people speaking ill of characters in ONE PIECE. For example, when they say ‘this villain is weak’, I can’t help thinking that then I’ll make him much stronger!”
This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The reemergence of Sir Crocodile, one of the series’ early antagonists, is among my favorite moments of the series, and it likely happened as Oda’s response to fans calling him weak. Here, Oda’s decision to prove complaining fans wrong by changing the text improved the series.
Oda’s reactions to complaints about his portrayal of women in SBS, however, are another story.
D: Nice to meet you. This is sudden, but… please teach us a tip or two on how to draw that hawt hourglass body all ONE PIECE female characters seem to have! Make sure you don’t forget to include their airbags ♡ P.N. If there’s no bread, let them eat roses~ O: Yes. Hello. It’s drawing time at the SBS segment. I would suggest that you think of a woman’s proportions as “three circles, one X”. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be leaving. (I only draw this kind of body, so I get a lot of complaint postcards from my female audience. Let’s all stay strong and keep on living life.) (Chapter 786, Page 24)
This is where his pettiness goes from fun and relatable to troubling. In Oda’s own words, a “lot” of women complain that he doesn’t do right by his female characters. He could reflect on the validity of these many complaints and use that feedback to improve his narrative. Instead, he doubles down on the character traits people took issue with.
Complaining that a villain is “weak” is an opinion that engages with the media in-world and doesn’t affect anyone. Female fans writing in to express that they are uncomfortable with the portrayal of their gender in his work are talking about something that impacts them personally. Poor representations of women in the media have the potential to affect the way other people in the real world see these women, from cultural perceptions to concrete working conditions.
Despite explicitly acknowledging that many women who read One Piece don’t like his representation, Oda dismisses them and advises his audience to “all stay strong and keep on living life.” Female fans who complain are moved from the “fan” category to “other.” Oda paints himself as the brave one even as he makes his female fans the target for ridicule by aligning his audience with him against “them.”
Meanwhile, Oda’s character designs grew more sexualized, not less. Here are side-by-side comparisons of Nami, one at the beginning of the series, one directly before the two-year time skip, and one of her afterward.
Tumblr media
Some… things… certainly changed. Long before I ever interacted with One Piece seriously—before I knew anything but the most basic details of the premise—I remember people joking about the huge change in the way female characters looked after the timeskip. This is egregiously sexist character design, enough that people with no vested interest in representing female characters well still took note when it happened. Oda took the timeskip as an opportunity to respond to female complaints and male desires: look, everyone, he said, look at my female characters now.
Tumblr media
This change for the worse wasn’t just visual, but affected the narrative as well. This is clearly seen in Rebecca, a major female character in the Dressrosa saga. It’s not just that she’s a 16-year-old in a chainmail bikini, but that her agency is repeatedly denied as the story unfolds.
Rebecca is a gladiator taught by her paternal figure to only fight when absolutely necessary. However, when that time arrives in the story, he denies her the opportunity. Despite Rebecca’s skill, this older man’s desire to protect her supersedes her desire to protect her loved ones. It’s taken as a given that she wouldn’t want to fight unless there was absolutely no other way. In other coming-of-age stories, her lack of desire to fight might prove the necessity of doing so when it comes down to the wire. Instead, a man (her mentor no less, a character type who’s generally meant to be pushed aside so their student can complete their growth) steps in at that crucial moment.
Tumblr media
What happened to the world Belle-Mere lived in? What happened to a woman’s sense of adventure, her ability to possess a manly spirit? Princess Vivi from Alabasta, the driving force from a much earlier saga, may not have had astounding combat moments, but her battle between her desire to serve her people and her thirst for adventure is a more compelling story than Rebecca’s narrative. Vivi may have chosen civic duty, but she remains an honorary Straw Hat.
Rebecca is a painful step back from Vivi at a time when Oda should be stepping forward. In the past, he had some misguided ideas and exhibited plenty of gender essentialism, but he valued women’s stories and participation. Nami and Robin’s arcs are as fleshed out as any other Straw Hat’s, and their moments of growth are personal and popular highlights of the overall series, used as examples of the quality One Piece can possess.
D: *click* You BIG BOOB LOVER!!! (Ahem, pardon me.) *slam*… *click* *smack* (blown kiss) *slam*  P.N. marimo O: Whoa. The girls are rebelling. What are you gonna do about that, guys?! OK, leave it to me! I’ll lay down the law for us all. What the hell are you talking about? I’m a goddamn shonen manga-ka! A MAN’S DREAM!! NEVER ENDS!!! (That was good) (Chapter 381, Page 86)
A female fan complains, and he says that he draws shounen manga: therefore, his representation of women is in line with the genre. “A man’s dream” includes adventure, fights, freedom, and all the core tenets of One Piece that appealed to earlier women writing into the SBS; however, it also includes sexualizing women. As a shonen mangaka, Oda writes for boys and aims to represent what boys (and often men) want. What girls want—representation that shows them as varied and human as male characters—evidently just isn’t as important.
Instead of considering the reasons his female fans don’t like his choices, he considers their opinions irrelevant because they are not his target audience. Any argument of sexism or misogyny can be written away as the annoying or bitter complaints of women whom the story isn’t “for”. The women who get it get to stay, on the condition that they don’t complain.
If you ask why Oda should have to think about representing women, my response is that it’s hypocritical to say that Oda shouldn’t have to moralize, because, at the end of the day, One Piece already has morals. One Piece doesn’t succeed simply because Luffy is funny, Zoro is cool, and Nami is sexy: it has a through-line of humanity that tells its audience time and time again that blood is less important than the family you choose. Oda is perfectly willing to tell anti-authoritarian stories about corrupt police forces and write blatant racism allegories. To excuse sexism in a show that’s willing to address the evils of slavery head-on requires intellectual dishonesty.
Finally, the idea that women are “not his audience” is false when 52% of the readership of One Piece is estimated to be female.  If over half of your audience is women, maybe it’s in your best interest not to completely disregard everything they say. At some point in a two-decade-long career, a good writer—which Oda demonstrably is—should be able to look around and see that the themes he thought would only appeal to boys have a wide appeal to everyone. Perhaps, then, it isn’t that “really good women” have a man’s heart. Perhaps men and women all have the same heart. Perhaps we all share the same drive for adventure, freedom, and life on the open seas.
One Piece is a wonderful, mischievous, and masterful show with a lot to say about the human need for friendship and adventure. It’s only gotten more influential with time, and it reaches a larger audience than ever. While far from perfect, twenty years ago Oda demonstrated an awareness that female shounen fans possessed the same desire for heroism and friendship as the boys who read his work, and he was happy to let them tag along on the journey—but only until they pointed out his flaws. When women asked for more, Oda made sure female fans knew One Piece was never for girls in the first place.

Sámi Folklore and Magic
The Sámi (sah-me) are the traditionally Sámi-speaking people inhabiting the region of Sápmi, which in modern times encompasses large northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and of the Kola Peninsula in Russia. This area was formerly known as Lapland, and the Sámi have historically been known in English as Lapps or Laplanders, but these terms are regarded as offensive by the Sámi, who instead claim the area's name in their own languages. The Sámi are primarily known for their relationship with the culture of nomadic reindeer herding. For several complex reasons that I won’t get into here, reindeer herding is legally reserved for only Sámi people in some regions of the Nordic countries.
Learning about my culture has been a very wonderful, eye-opening experience for me and I want to share what I’ve found!
Tumblr media
The Sámi, within the circles of people who know them, are recognized for three specific forms of magic. These are divination, drumming, and “gand”. Sámi people and their craft were believed to be very powerful by sagas.
Saivu and Noaidi:
Saivu is a term that typically means “another world”, as well as the being who live there. A noaidi refers to a person with the ability to communicate with spirits, travel to other worlds, and potentially even tell the future. The drum was one of the most critical tools for noaidi carrying out these spiritual tasks.
Faith and Mythos:
There is no set limit to the gods traditionally held in Sámi culture. Norse and Sámi mythology influenced each other frequently, and thus there are many notable similarities between the two. I.e. Both hold a belief in the figure of Thor.
Mythical creatures are a critical part of Sámi culture. Many today still believe in underground spirits, and figures of legend are still described through generations. Stállu (troll giants) and Čáhcerávga (river spirits/sea monsters) are used in stories to scare children from dangerous behavior on the ice or near other dangerous places.
Tumblr media
Joik
Joiks are Sámi song traditions used to aid a noaidi in achieving a trance, especially so in pre-Christian dominance. Joiks also have function outside of such spiritual traditions and rituals. They are also used to calm and call to reindeer, and narrative joiks are powerful tools in storytelling.
The Drum
Tumblr media
Meavrresgárri - North Sámi
Gievrie - South Sámi
Runebomme - Norwegian (Comes from early misunderstanding that the symbols represented on the drums were runes, newly appearing name is Sametromme)
Many drums are made of a wooden frame (South Sámi) or a hollowed bowl (North Sámi). Each are personalized, with the backs of these drums being decorated with various amulets of silver, animal claws, teeth, or bones. Whenever the drum is hit, the pointers move around and indicate to the symbols on the drumskin. Through this, noaidi are able to tell the future and communicate with gods and spirits. Drums are also powerful tools to aid in putting noaidi into a trance.
Tumblr media
Gand
Originally claimed to be a “soul” or spirit that a person practicing Sámi sorcery could control/send out. This could be to gain information about distant lands, or even to cast harm onto others. By those who feared Sámi magic, gand was typically known as a malicious “projectile” of sorts that sorcerers could use at intense speeds and vast distances.
Healing:
Noaidi were believed to be able to heal people by retrieving their souls from the world of the dead. Traditions of noaidi healing are still in use to this day. Stemming bleeding, stopping someone’s bleeding through chanting, rituals and other forms of witchcraft) are still used not only in Sámi tradition but also throughout Norway as well.
Much of Sámi culture isn’t known by those outside of the culture due to much of it being received through oral tradition. It’s very important to respect the closed aspect of the culture, while still learning about important cultural aspects that preserve Sámi people’s place in the world.

mkay, chattiness restored
i wanted to share some old TTS-related arts that were actually very formative for my original characters (because I felt mildly nostalgic, and don't hate all my old stuff right now)
(warning: full of rubbish and half-baked thoughts)
(another warning: this will take up a lot of real-estate--esp on mobile--and it feels worth noting this was supposed to be warning 1)
(final warning: it's seriously old art, pls turn back before it assaults your eyes)
--
>8O YOU LOOK ANYWAY?! fine. can't say I didn't warn you. because i did. thrice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The other half of that Hubert piece was--you guessed it!--actually Caspar (which I was too embarrassed to share at the time-- kinda still am, but my like for the composition outweighs that atm). I am very tempted to redo this one, and try some show-style rendering, just for kicks
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wanted this Cass-Cas nickname mixup peppered throughout their Road Trip saga, in both casual or perilous contexts. Because the best jokes are the most ill-timed ones. right?
Tumblr media
For TTS Lyall, Ben Platt is a fairly certain voice claim. Which led to this short scene idea wherein he pointedly sings Billy Joel's 'Vienna' at Varian (the lyrics fit, I think). He's definitely the sort to boldly serenade a friend in such a way, and the concept scratches my 'if my characters were in a musical' brain itch
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i lowkey shipped these two, and that might have been because I originally built up Caspar's character so specifically to compliment her traits and sometimes challenge her approach to things. their military backgrounds were their biggest bonding point, and there were Cass-Cas-Sass-offs which I enjoyed more than I ought to have
Tumblr media
TTS Hugo turned into a reindeer. felt much better, only I don't know how he'd have handled Corona's sunny climates. would he have been okay?? :( also lookit how baby Lyall's face is, I'm love him

Earthly Paradise
☆ Pairing: Loki x Reader
☆ Synopsis: Things with Loki are going great, you over each other and everything seemes perfect, but will the honeymoon phase survive when Loki's worries get the worst of him.
☆ Word Count: 5009
☆ Notes: Loki is shy and touch-starved switch. It is almost fluff without plot until the end. Part 4 of this saga I've made: part one, two, three.
☆ Warnings: Anxious Loki, Loki does a major fucksie whupsie at the end.
Tumblr media
After the mission was over things happened how Loki had expected them. The second the rest of the team figured out what was going on between the two of you (which didn’t take long given the loving display wasn’t particularly discreet) hell broke loose: teasing, jokes, and playful flirting to trigger Loki’s jealousy and all those things you could expect from friendly banter.
“Ah, Tinkerbell, I really like your new shirt”
On different times, these same circumstances would have annoyed him, or worse, especially about the flirting would’ve caused at least one of them to go missing, but the way you beamed with pride when you spoke of how much you adored Loki made him do the same. And they could tease each him all they wanted. You had made perfectly clear that jokes aside you had eyes only for him.
For once in his life, Loki knew what it was to have the spotlight, being showered by so much positive attention from a group that despite he’d never admit it, he had learned to care for. Your relationship highlighted the best of him and made him want to be even better.
He didn’t expect it all to be perfect, he imagined sooner or later, someone would come to lecture him about the responsibilities of a romance with someone as precious as you, or threats to murder him in his sleep if he dared to hurt you. But none of that came. If anything they came to support him, to suggest him good restaurants to take you to, reminded him of your favorite flowers, chocolates, and colors, and whatsoever a long-detailed list of tips about Midgardian courting… other stuff. It was annoying but if this were the kind of things you’d like he would make sure to provide.
Because you did to him what no one did in over a millennium. You made him happy, genuinely happy.
“Reindeer games, you look like you’re in a good mood today” Tony chuckled.
“Good mood?” Clint laughed, “He’s arrogant ass is not literally glowing because he would look like a  fluorescent marker.”
“Look at him all dressed up, Earth style even” Sam grinned cheekily, pointing to his black suit.
“Dating human is more softening than what my brother expected” Thor smiled more endeared than cheekily.
“Leave him alone guys” Nat smiled, to which Loki nodded thankfully, “… it’s not his fault cupid hit bullseye.”
Of course. He didn’t want to let those ridiculous comments ruin his evening, but all this nonsense was ridiculous and starting to get to his nerves.
“Guys, I hope you’re not messing with Loki” a familiar voice spoke through the hall.
Seeing you was worth all the teasing, you had chosen a beautiful blue night dress, glittery silver heels that he could only see if your step were long enough to raise the skin up your ankle, and silver jewelry to match.
“You look absolutely stunning, my love” he smiled as he reached to greet you with a kiss ln the cheek.
“You’re so sweet, mischief. You look fantastic yourself, but I didn’t expect any less of you” you smiled. “But hurry or we’ll lose the reservations.”
“Darling we’ll be fine, don’t worry, I’ve been perfecting my portals, and worst-case scenario we’ll use those.”
“Woah there, sweet pea, careful” Clint warned you playfully. “It’s never good when a man wants to save time.”
“Hilarious, Barton, but I didn’t quite hear you” Loki snarled tapping his ear.
“Loki!” you scolded him, “And believe it or not, he is nothing but a gentleman.”
“Yeah, that’s how they all act” Bucky chuckled.
“Right, because you guys would know first-hand about that, gigolo squad” you scoffed, “Not you Bruce, Vision, you’re an angel too, Steve… you’re on thin fucking ice.”
“This is what I get for being the sponsor of your fancy date?” Tony whined, feigning offense. “Good to know.”
“Ah, you know I’m very thankful” you smiled to walk to where he was seating to give him a kiss on the cheek, “But I can’t let you guys insult my Loki. Even if his fancy dates finish me off…”
“If Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are done interrupting…” Loki spoke up.
“Don’t blame us, mischief” Clint grinned, “It’s your fault we came together in the first place.”
“A mistake I’ll pay for rest of my life, rest assured” Loki sighed. “Shall we get going, love?”
“Yeah, let’s” you smiled as you grabbed him by the arm ready to spend a date night at the theater.
Days went by full of delight and Loki felt like floating. You were inseparable and could barely take your hands off each other, first thing in the morning you would meet in the kitchen to eat together, matched your gym routines in the mornings to stretch and start the day. Then he’d grab a book to read with you around as you worked in the lab for a couple of hours, still tending to your needs bringing you water and snacks to share with you until it was time to train. The other girls had gone ballistic, constantly making group dates with Wanda and Vision, Pepper and Tony, Nat and Bruce, whether two couples at one or everyone who tagged along.
You still worked hard to be a hero and you trained your butt off, but training had to be one of his favorite things now: he taught you Asgardian sparring as he learned Midgard fighting styles to show you as well, but it all meant having you close and a chance to touch you.
“Alright, darling” Loki huffed, “Your position is too gentle. Straighten your shoulders.”
You did as told, and he placed hands on the sides of your waist, nodding for you to do the same. The rest came almost mechanically, it was trying to get your feet behind his leg to swipe him to the floor. Loki and you had been working on a mix of different martial arts to make your fighting style diverse and unpredictable to the enemy.
After a couple of attempts you finally managed to drop Loki on the floor, although rather than getting overexcited you decided to actually beat him. When, he rolled on his stomach to try standing up you tackled him, placing your knee on the back of his thigh to prevent him from standing, and when he tried to reach for you, you grabbed his hands pinning them against his back. You had successfully managed to put Loki in a lock, and he swelled with pride when he noticed he was effectively pinned, even if his strength far surpass yours, you had exceeded his expectations, so he allowed you to enjoy your victory.
“Gotcha good” you stated audibly pleased with yourself.
“Mm, I really enjoy this new arrogance of yours” he smirked, “I wouldn’t mind this position in a different scenario.”
He let out a chuckle when he heard you whine. He had learned your reactions so well that he could practically see your red face as you bit the inside of your cheek to try concealing your embarrassment.
“I do wonder if you’d be able to take charge with the task given you’ve made it so easy for me to fluster you” he teased you.
He only meant that to an extent, truly he adored the newfound liberty he had to embarrass you, how vulnerable you’d allowed yourself to be vulnerable to his words, even if he exploited that for his entertainment he never used it to hurt you, nor he intended to. He relished that trust you gave him and no way he’d actually make you feel ashamed.
“Oh?” he could just hear the impishness. “Is that right…? What about this scenario?”
Before he could shoot you a comeback he felt singers spidering over the back of his exposed side, crawling up his ribs.
“Ehe-hey! Lohohove, dohohon’t do thahahat” he chuckled.
“Why not? You wanted me to take charge” you teased him, “That should mean I get to make decisions. Or does this not please you?”
“Okahahahay, it’s good, it’s good, that’s enough!” Loki laughed when your hand snaked under his arm. “Cut it ohohout!”
You ceased your playful torture but not right after he asked, he didn’t understand what it was immediately, given he was trying to get rid of the tingly sensations. But by the time he did the footsteps approaching were already by the door.
“Oh, hi!” Bruce waved shyly. “I remembered you’d be here, Tony asked if you were going to the lab later today.”
“Yeah, we’re almost done training,” you smiled innocently, “I’ll take a shower and we’ll meet you there.”
“We?”
“We, as in we are a package deal now,” you stated firmly, “wherever he goes, I go, and vice versa.”
Something in Loki’s stomach fluttered, he had never experienced such a pure way of loving. How proud you made clear you were with him, and you loved him. Sure, despite his altercations, he knew his family loved him. But it was so different,.
“O-Oh… Good,” Bruce smiled and left, letting you return to the lesson.
“Now, grab one of my arms and stretch it behind me” Loki instructed, “place your knee on my free arm if you deem it necessary.”
You did as he ordered, and Loki nodded approvingly of your technique.
“Now all you’d have to do is place your hand below my elbow and smash it to break my arm.”
“What?!” you sounded so genuinely horrified Loki couldn’t tell if you were joking or not.
“Of course you’re not gonna do it to me darling,” Loki assured you “I know you wouldn’t harm me, it’s just practice. But fear not, you’ve improved your strength enough, so it a really combat you would perform it well.”
“No… I don’t want to do that” you said getting off of him.
He sat up to face you, looking at your mortified face. Your hands were covering your mouth and you were shaking lightly.
“I don’t want to hurt anyone… I mean, y-yeah… I’ll have to fight bad guys but… actively breaking arms… i-isn’t that overkill?”
“Darling… killing is part of the job too… sometimes you won’t have a choice” he said as gently as he could.
“I understand that I just… I would like to avoid reaching those extremes… As much as possible, at least.”
Norns, you were so soft.
“I know the battlefield is rough,” you said, “But you’re living proof that there’s good in what we think are bad guys… I don’t want to make killing my default, you know.”
He could recognize you had a valid point… and he admire your mercy, but he couldn’t help but worry.
As you reached out to cup his face with a care and love he hadn’t felt in his entire life, he sighed allowing you to keep stroking his cheek with a gentleness that undid him. He could feel himself practically melting to your touch, feeling his worry vanish at your hands.
Speaking of touch, your affection had become his newest and strongest vice. He loved how you held his hands as you walked around the facilities so naturally that you didn’t have to think about it. He relished your hugs, so warm and tender, always telling him how much he was loved.
It was terrifying how much he craved for your touch, how he would bend to your will if you simply caressed him. Your fingers worked like magic.
As much as he adored having you in his arm, knowing he could keep you safe while he ran his fingers through your hair to make you sigh and let out little moans of delight, you were stubborn and you insisted to pamper him as well. At first it took him time to warm up to the idea, always charming his way around it. But as much as you enjoyed yourself you eventually got your way… and Loki questioned how he ever lived without your touch.
The way you seemed took pleasure helped to put his mind at easy. And the way you made him feel helped too.
It was funny how as a prince, massages were pretty much part of the deal, just another perk of the royal life. But this? Simply resting his head on your chest as you absentmindedly traced shapes on his back or gave him what you called head scritches made the most renowned masseuses pale in comparison.
“You are such a puppy” you teased him.
“I am nothing of such, I’m much more sophisticated…” he chuckled, “at least a cat.”
“Are you sure? I think you’d look cute with a puppy tail,” you giggled, “wagging it around when you’re happy. You even react when I scratch behind your ear…”
You scratched the spot behind his ear, and he shivered in delight, biting his lip to hold back any audible reaction but not quite concealing his smile. He could feel his face heating up at the sound of your endeared laughter.
“I hate you” he groaned.
“I love you too.”
You returned to scratching his back and he just huffed, allowing himself to relax once again. Shivered again when you sneaked underneath his shirt by the neck of it onto his bare back, which he would be delightful if you hadn’t found a particularly sensitive spot on his shoulder blade. That made him jump despite his best efforts, your fingers had just found a very bad spot and his reaction was evident.
“Oh… sorry” you smiled shyly.
He just groaned and hid in your chest to try concealing his embarrassment, but you simply moved from the spot continued scratching his back. For a moment he felt tempted to tickle you back, his weight and position already gave him an advantage, and he could excuse it on revenge, it'd certainly seem like a naturally playful response.
But he knew you knew him well, just as well as he knew you. You would certainly tickle him back, in a worst-case scenario, you’d pick up on the fact that he actually didn’t fight it back… Meaning it’d be a matter of time you figured out why.
He’d have to do with the occasional chill from a touch in a particularly sensitive spot for now. It wasn’t like he didn’t adore every second of it as well.
Valhalla could be damned.
When eventually kisses became part of the relationship, he fell in love even further the second your lips met his skin. You’d peck his cheeks almost every time he was within reach, his eyelids when he was sleepy, on his neck always sending chills down his spine, his hands when he handed you tools or when you drove around the city, and his lips… gods, the taste of you. He knew there was a before and an after in his life once he tasted your kisses.
It was his favorite distraction. You had found that you could interrupt him from any task or activity with a smooch and he would not only not be annoyed, but he corresponded happily. If anything, he feigned annoyance and claim you would have to pay for disturbing his peace, which was just an excuse to kiss you more fervently. Of course you knew better than to interrupt him if he was doing something important, which he appreciated, but the world could wait until he was done with you.
And… just like things started between the two of you, tickles were a constant on your relationship. He adored teasing you and eliciting giggles from you as much as you did to him.
Tickling you silly was another effective way of getting you away from work to skip you pleads to get 5 more minutes or let you finish this one bit. It was just a matter of wrapping his arms around you and scribbling his fingers over your belly to have you cave in and leave the lab to rest spending time with Loki. Or just to get you to do anything really.
“Give up, honey~” he purred in your ear.
“Nahahaha!” you squirmed in his lap.
Oh, who would have guessed that doing things like sitting on the God of Mischief’s lap could result in situations like these…
“It’s the only way to make this stop…” he teased, as he squeezed and pinched your ribs.
“IHIHIHIT’S NOT FAIIIEEEEEEEEE!” you screeched, “NAHAHAHAT THEHEHEHERE!”
“Lihife is not fair, dear heart” he laughed at your reaction as he reached to tickle your back, right between your shoulder blades. “But this is as simple as surrendering.”
“OKAHAHAY! OKAHAHAHAY! NO MOHOHORE!” tears of laughter streamed down your face.
“Say it…”
“I GIHIHIVE!” you laughed, tapping  “IHIHIHIT’S YOURS! JUHUST STAHAHAHAP!”
He decided to be merciful and actually hold his end of the bargain, letting you break, rubbing circles on your back to brush of the tickly sensations, you gasped for air in defeat as you handed him the last cookie. Of course he shared half with you, and of course that’s what would’ve happened anyway, but none of you could deny it was more fun this way.
On your side, you were a bit discrete, and Loki thanked you for that, you didn’t say it openly, but he knew you didn’t want him to feel embarrassed if you tickled him in front of others.
“Ah, the happy couple having some quality time with a movie” a familiar voice beamed happily as he walked in the leisure room.
“Thor, don’t come to bot—”
“Yeah we are” you chimed in with a happy smile, “We’re watching Pride and Prejudice, if you want to join us, if you don’t mind romantic movies… really romantic movies.”
The God of Thunder stiffened immediately looking around the room as to avoid contact.
“A-ah, w-well— I… I wouldn’t want to bother the— the l-lovebirds…”
“It’s not a bother at all, Thor” you smiled “In fact, I’ll give a bunch of kisses to my little Asgardian moonlight right here, right now.”
You clever thing. Despite his normally confident demeanor, his brother couldn’t handle his socially awkwardness. Sure, among friends he was still loud and bright. But when it came strangers he was actually really shy… among strangers and… and couples, the public displays of affection just made him really self-conscious.
“Is that right, darling?” Loki smirked, happy to play along.
“M-Maybe another time” Thor suggested.
“Oh, Thor, don’t be shy! We’re almost family” you teased him.
That was enough to make the God of Thunder, turn pale and fled the room, making Loki fall back on the couch laughing.
“Oh, dear, I almost thought he was going to pass out” Loki chuckled.
“I’m kinda sad he didn’t join us for movie night” you said sadly.
“Wait, you were serious?”
“What’s wrong with it?” you said innocently, “You’re my boyfriend.”
Loki just rolled his eyes, barely missing the tingling feeling on the back of his mind. Liar.
“Again with your Midgardian terms” he huffed.
“You are just bitter I was the one who asked you out officially” you grinned triumphantly as you planted a kiss on his lips.
“I hate it when you’re right” he smiled through the kiss, “but if you kiss me more I’ll forgive you.”
“Well… I guess I have no choice…” you mumbled happily barely breaking the kiss. “Or now that we’re alone… I could…”
Before Loki could ask was talking about he felt your fingernails gently yet torturously crawling under his arms, making him burst out laughing.
“Dahahaharling, dohohon’t– hehehe! Stohohop!”
“Don’t stop? If you say so…” you teased as you nuzzled his neck, just adding up to the tickling sensation. “I knew you liked this, but this is beyond blunt, sugar pie.”
With what little strength he could muster he held your wrist to push you away from him.
“Goodness grahacious, dear…” he chuckled, “where did you get that idea?”
“You may fool the others, even your brother, but I know you love it when I tickle you, giggles” you whispered, gently tapping his nose. “Otherwise you’d stop me right away, squirm at least.”
“Oh, giggles, is it?” he growled playfully. “I’ll show you giggles.”
“EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHH!”
And he latched onto your sides, eliciting your squeals and laughter was a lot better than admitting you were right twice in the same date night. Oh, well, just another thing to the list of things he still didn’t dare to tell you, it would pile up next to finally telling you “I love you” and his concern to your eager to be exposed to the Avenger lifestyle…
You… an Avenger. Exposed to missiles, swords, daggers, a vast amount firepower, master assassins, metahumans, witches and sorcerers, people in mechanical suits of diverse thematic, angry green monster with strength that surpassed literal gods, and that’s without the mention of extraterrestrial lifeforms of unknown intentions. And you, so fragile and gentle wanted to expose yourself to all that for people who mostly didn’t deserve an ounce of your kindness.
Gods, he couldn’t allow it. You would get yourself killed. You were only going to shorten your already brief life. No. He had to do something about it.
Thankfully that opportunity presented itself on a silver plate. Literally…
“Loki, can you pass me the—
“T10 Pozidriv screwdriver” he smiled as you grabbed the screwdriver yourself.
“I’m impressed you actually recognize what they look like.”
“You have me stuck here too much” he chuckled teasingly.
“You love it” you leaned towards him with that adorable way of smiling that made your nose scrunch up.
“I don’t hate it” he agreed corresponding your actions to meet you for a kiss when—
“Sorry to interrupt the not-ly-weds” Pietro chimed in as he walked into the lab, “But there’s a meeting in 15 minutes for the next mission, so we need the emo king here to grace us with his presence in hall C.”
Loki was about to berate him about not knowing the meaning of privacy. But you placed your hand on his discreetly to beam with a smile.
“He’ll be there in 5” you assured him.
Loki noticed how the speedster’s expression softened. All the annoyance in his eyes when he walked in vanished within seconds.
“O-Oh— good” he mumbled, “I’ll see you there, then.”
And with that, he left leaving a trail of wind behind him.
“What was all that about?” Loki asked.
You shrugged with an innocent smile, “I just thought I’d spare you the trouble”.
“I appreciate the effort, but I rarely confront with them lately” Loki reminded you, “Besides their unwelcome mockery, that is.”
“They’re not mocking you, baby, it’s just teasing” you smiled, “that’s just the way the show you they love you. You’ve proven to be part of the family.”
“Family…” Loki breathed out.
“Yeah, but we can talk about it after your meeting” you smiled as you pecked his cheek.
“What happened with wherever I go, you go?” Loki smirked.
“I’m packed with work right now, and you know I rather not go until I’m authorized to a mission” you sighed, “it’d be rubbing salt in the wound.”
He nodded in agreement and made his way to the meeting. Given you had sent him off with time to spare, he had arrived early. Meaning the only other members present were Rogers and Vision. So he took the chance to request making a brief council before the meeting.
“Alright, before so talk about the trip to Gulmira, Loki wanted to bring a matter to us” Steve said absentmindedly as he was reading some files.
He just stood up, and cleared his throat… If you ever found out what he was about to do, you would be beyond angry, but he hoped you would understand.
“First of all, this a highly sensitive subject so it’s of utmost importance that what we say behind these doors remains strictly confidential…”
Gods, he hoped he could be forgiven.
Soon, the mission day arrive. You were there when it was time to leave, he was surprised at himself for managing to keep a straight face as your eyes crystallized with held back tears as they loaded the Quinjet. For as long as he could remember, he hadn’t cared about goodbyes, but leaving you for a few days broke his heart.
“It’s okay… I’ll prepare a date for when you get back” you beamed as you cleaned the tears from your eyes.
“That sounds lovely” he smiled, gently caressing your cheek, “I’ll be counting the seconds until I get to see your beautiful face once more…”
“I’d rather you focus on the mission” you chuckled awkwardly, “I don’t want to see your return as a sieve.”
“Very funny” he rolled his eyes with a smile as he extended his arms, cueing you to hug him.
You complied happily wrapping your arms around the tall god, standing on the tip of your toes to peck his cheek. He couldn’t help but look at you sadly, knowing it’d be at least a couple of days until he saw you again. How had he come to miss you so badly? Which force of nature had decided he’d need you this badly?
“Don’t be sad” you smiled.
“Yeah, because sad spelled backward is das and das not good” a familiar voice said, soon revealing Peter carrying boxes to the jet. “I— I mean, like… das not gonna be good for the mission… Um…”
Loki’s annoyed sigh contrasted with your happy giggle.
“Hey, with the suit almost done, maybe next mission I’ll go with you, right?”
“Yes, perhaps…”
“Alright Alison Reynolds, we’re leaving!” Tony called from the ship.
You have him a final kiss goodbye and he rushed to the jet, waving you goodbye as the hatched closed. Of course there was teasing about it on the flight, but the warmth from your body still lingering on him was something no amount of mockery could take away from him.
The mission was what he expected, some days of vigilance, a couple more of infiltration and espionage, the battle and take down of the evil organization of turn, and control damage to the surrounding area. The only considerable surprise was that someone had managed to slash his skin with a blade. Nothing concerning besides the fact that you’d for sure give him a mouthful when he got back… not that he minded.
When they arrived back, Loki felt tired, but thrilled to get to see you again. Even if this time it meant that you’d panic at the sight of his arm, which you did. No matter how many times Loki assured you that it wouldn’t kill him, you lectured him while you cleaned and bandaged the wound, reminding him that he’s not immortal and that he shouldn’t be so reckless without access to Asgardian medicine.
He would take a thousand more blade if it meant you’d cure them. Anything to have you close.
You were just finishing wrapping the bandage around Loki’s shoulder when Thor walked in with his usual smile only widening at the sight of you two.
“Ah young one, I came to thank you for the food you had ready” he grinned as he showed a sandwich in his hand, leaving Loki’s on the table next to him.
He wasn’t able to fight the smile at the first bite, it was an extra lettuce chicken sandwich with that spicy mayo he liked. A quick glance at Thor’s gave away that it was an all-meat sandwich. You made everyone’s sandwich favorite, personalized for everyone, typical.
“It’s nothing, you guys were gone for a while, and I imagined you’d be too hungry to wait until dinner and too tired to eat in the dinning room” you smiled. “I’m glad you like it.”
“It’s absolutely delicious.”
Loki was lowering down his sleeve, ready to spend the rest of the evening with you, when Thor decided to speak once again.
“It really is a blessing that she’s still here to take care of us” Thor smiled at Loki.
“Hah… w-what do you mean…?” you asked nervously.
The room felt silent, Thor had a look  of regret on his face as his younger brother stiffened, refusing to look you in the eye. Loki looked at the floor, knowing he’d never resist the pained look he was sure would be adorning your features, Thor on the other hand simply caved in with a defeated sigh.
“Look, little one… We had decided to vote about you going on missions a while back, given you lack life-long training, and your suit wasn’t ready… it had to be unanimous, so– It was only for your safety–”
“Who voted against it?” you asked.
“I did” Loki finally admitted.
The brief second your eyes met his tore his heart apart in a million pieces. The amount of disappointment in your eyes was unbearable.
“W-What? Why? Who else…?”
Thor just shyly shook his head.
“So it was just you?” you asked, Loki really disliking the tone of your voice, you had never spoken so harshly, and much less to him. “Only you doubt that I can do it?”
“You will thank me one day.”
“What? No!” you complained, “that’s not fair!”
“Come now, it’s not—” Thor tried intervening, but you held your finger up at him. And Thor had spent enough time on Earth to know that defying the angry Shut-Up finger sign was dangerous, even for the God of Thunder.
“Why, Loki?!” You asked, “You know what this means to me!”
“You have no idea what you would be getting yourself into.”
“I know what it demands, and I’m willing to pay the price if I get to make a difference, and you don’t have the right to decide over what I can or can’t do!”
“If I recall, that’s exactly what the voting was for,” Loki said plainly, “wasn’t it, brother?”
“I- I- I… I don’t want to get involved” Thor raised his hands in a truce sign.
“No, it’s okay Thor.” you snapped, “Loki, you don’t get to make that choice for me! You have no right to do it!”
“It’s for you own good, darling!”
“It’s my risk to make, Loki! I—”
“Do you have any idea what your death would do to me?!” Loki finally snapped back.
“I’M MORE THAN WILLING TO DIE!”
“I’M NOT WILLING TO SEE YOU DIE! DON’T YOU GET IT?! I LOVE YOU!”
There was a deadly silence after that. Thor didn’t dare to move an inch, he just stood by the door trying not to make a sound even with his breathing. But a god so big wasn’t easy to hide, making this need to burst into tears was even more humiliating with his brother here.
Of course he ruined it. The first time he tells you he loves you, and he ruined it. He was an absolute idiot. He held it in so much that when it slipped out he exploded in your face.
“I’m not allowing you to put yourself in the line of fire and risk losing you” he barely managed to breathe out.
“You already did.”
You left the room, slamming the door behind you… sort of (bless the day shock absorbers were made). And Loki just collapsed against the desk in front of him, resting his head on his crossed forearms.

I've been meaning to upload her here after some minor issues, but here she is! My One Piece OC Mirai Tatsumi(or Winter Dragon Mirai)of the Straw Hats! Yep I went on ahead and designed an OC for OP cause dang my obsessions with this series is high and this is my first anime/manga OC plus I've wanted to do a human and dragon hybrid character for who knows how long.
Tumblr media
Reference to both her base and Hybrid forms(I updated her hybrid point to look more like an actual Zoan type human-beast hybrid transformation like what you'd see in the series); will be drawing more costumes for her in the near future.
Tumblr media
Here is the base design for Mirai during the Super Rookies saga aka the first half of the series.
Tumblr media
Ref to her Dragon Point form, with more information down below in her story.
Mirai Tatsumi(16 pre timeskip and 18 post timeskip)is a Devil Fruit user like Luffy, Nico Robin, Brook, and Chopper, the first friend she ever made. Her fruit allows her to transform into a dragon hybrid with enhanced strength, durability, and the power to use pyrokinesis. When not in Hybrid form, she can use her wings and fiery skills normally, and has some slight durability to her skin. She's still super strong though.
Mirai actually was born and raised in the Grand Line herself, living to a family and hanging with friends. After when she ate a Devil Fruit at the age of six, her whole life was turned upside down after when her own family and village casted her out of the village she lived in, calling her a "monster". Mirai flew from island to island, trying to fit in, but nothing worked. She was always rejected, causing her to live outside of a world that didn't want her. Scars would form on her back to show the pain and suffering she had been through.
While trying to find a new home, she would get caught in a storm and was washed up on the icy coldness of the Drum Kingdom, completely knocked out cold. Chopper would find her and bring her back to Kureah, where the doctress would tend to the child's wounds and take her in as if she were her own daughter. Chopper and Mirai would grow close as friends, eventually becoming like siblings as Chopper learned to warm up to humans more because of her. In fact, the two almost did everything together, even when it came to his experiments and when they developed his Rumble Balls. He eventually became her mentor, for he taught her everything he knew from his training with Kureah. Since both shared similar abilities due to the Devil Fruits they ate being Zoan types, he would also help her learn how to master her powers.
Mirai would live with Kureah and Chopper for her whole life, but that changed when Kureah let Mirai go spread her wings and see the world, since Mirai had a dream on making cures to illnesses, expanding her horizons, and making new friends, just like her mentor/best friend. She would tell Chopper that she would return before leaving to start her adventure. She would come across a few other Grand Line islands before arriving at Syrup Village in the East Blue. Here, she would befriend Usopp; the two got along very fast too. Eventually she would befriend Luffy, Nami, and Zoro when they arrived on the village as well as Sanji when he joined. When she revealed her secret on being a Devil Fruit wielder in front of her captain, Mirai feared that Luffy would turn their friendship down, but he ended up loving her powers and asked her to join his crew. This made Mirai so happy to the point that she accepted his offer. She had finally found a real family. A family to accept her for who she was. In fact, she's ok with being a monster whenever Luffy is around.
Mirai felt right at home with Luffy and the Straw Hats, sailing into the Grand Line with them and getting to see so many new places and faces before they arrived on Drum Island to help cure Nami's illness. Both hybrid and reindeer would be reunited after so long as well as her "mother". She would even help Chopper warm up to Luffy and the others too. Chopper would join the crew by Mirai's side at the end of the Drum Island season after getting a proper and emotional sendoff by Kureah and the residents of the island. The bond between the two would continue to grow and strengthen just like back at their home, and they would even get along well with the other crewmembers when they joined. As the doctor and doctor's assistant of the Straw Hats, both make antidotes to illnesses as well as tending to the wounds of the crew.
One of Mirai's biggest habits is becoming overprotective of Chopper even after the timeskip, yet the same can apply with Chopper too. She'll tend to pick him up like a stuffed animal and hold him for a few moments and even will hiss in people's faces. Mirai rarely does this in public, but when she does, both human and animal would get embarrassed. Even if he would get embarrassed, he would get used to it eventually, and the same applied with the other Straw Hats. This would form after the duels with the Foxy Pirates(while Chopper got temporally taken during the first game set, Mirai would get temporally taken during the second game set).
When she first gained her dragon form, which is later named Dragon Point, she had no control over it, making her a threat to her friends and Chopper, since the form originally came out due to her strong emotions and/or rage. The first time she would turn into this form would be during the Alabasta season, where her strong emotions and rage over seeing Usopp and Chopper in danger caused her to transform and "help" the two men take out the Baroque Works members during her rage. Afterwards, she attacked Usopp and Chopper(she almost killed him too)before passing out and returning to normal, since the form drains a lot of her energy. She would turn into the form a few more times, but still had no or little control over it.
It would be during the timeskip where Mirai would learn to control her Dragon Point form fully thanks to Chopper's help once again during their two years of training of getting stronger together. At the start of the New World saga, Mirai has complete control of her Dragon Point form, making it her most powerful form. The form is extremely powerful in flight and strength with the downside being that it drains most of her energy, meaning that she'll end up passing out after being in the form for a certain amount of time. Unlike Chopper though, she can still move her body after when she wakes up. He happened to develop some special Rumble Balls for her, and they allow Mirai to stay in Dragon Point form for a few minutes without loosing too much energy. Instead of passing out, she just feels a bit woozy.
Bounties: ten million(first), seventy-eight million(second), four hundred million(third).

As a plus, here's a bonus and fun little doodle I did of my OC as a reindeer!
The One Piece anime belongs to Toei Animation; Mirai Tatsumi belongs to me(GaiaKoraidon)
