Hold Tight, Get Ready for the Ride

A fest dedicated to fics inspired by the ten songs from Niall's third Album, The Show.

Rules:

There is no minimum or maximum word count

Fics must be completed when posted on AO3. No WIPs.

This fest is not anonymous. Authors are welcome to post Snippets and teasers. (Make sure to tag @theshowficfest)

As this is a fest based on Niall Horan’s album, Niall must appear as a main character. 

Any Niall pairing is allowed. The pairing does not need to be sexual or romantic and the fic could feature purely platonic relationships. Fics do not need to include any pairing at all.

All side pairings are allowed, as long as Niall is the focus of the fic. 

There will be no restriction on the writing of explicit, sensitive or potential triggering content, but this must be clearly tagged.

WELCOME BACK FOR ROUND 3

The Harry Rare Pair Fest is back! Signups will open on October 15 and go through November 15. Fics will be due March 1, 2023.

RULES

You must be 18+ at the time of signup.

The main pairing of your fic must include Harry (there are no rules on side pairings). Since this fest is intended to promote rare pairs, the only pairing you cannot write is Harry/Louis.

When you sign up, you will provide your pairing.

There will be no content moderation, but I ask that you tag your fic appropriately. The only prompt for your fic is your pairing, so feel free to write whatever you want. Remember, the fest has been renamed since Round 1 to encourage any and all Harry pairings. No matter how your characters identify, they are all welcome here.

No minimum or maximum word count.

Please use a beta. Please use a Britpicker or sensitivity reader, if applicable.

Review:

I don’t think I can properly express my feelings in general or how much I love this fic but here’s what I can tell you about it:

The fic starts off by introducing the main character, Zayn, who lives with his grandfather on the island of Guernsey.

From the beginning, it is apparent that the island itself will be an important part of the story. It’s very easy to picture, as it’s described so succinctly, and it establishes an atmosphere of melancholy that enriches the story.

The introduction of Niall’s character is like a ray of sunshine peeking out through the clouds. He may be exactly what Zayn needs - but things are more complicated than they seem. Much more complicated.

The story takes a lot of twists and turns as more people are introduced, all of which have their own distinct characterizations. And in the context of the story, regardless of how complex the situation, their pull towards each other just makes sense.

On top of all this, the author explores some of Zayn’s familial relationships, and shows the difficulties they face and how they end up supporting one another.

All in all, it is clear that this story is one that has been carefully crafted. According to the author’s notes, it wasn’t the easiest fic to write. And that struggle seems to be reflected in the fic itself: It takes some pain and effort, but ultimately, the boys find where they belong.

This short but certainly sweet fan-fiction piece is definitely worth a read. Have a few minutes to spare with a coffee? – Perfect, because this novel is just about that length and in the end, you took that well-needed break whilst having a full heart. It’s filled with light-hearted humour and flirting all mixed together with those first crush butterflies. A daily commuter ends up swapping more than a train ticket with train enthusiast and conductor, Louis Tomlinson. The author’s detailed descriptions bring the scene to life and a smile to my face. Their comparisons and passionate moments shared between the pair are wholesome.
