Tessa was smiling up at Will as she tucked her hands into fur-lined gloves; he bent to brush her hair from her forehead.

Tessa smiled indulgently, as if Will had asked for a second helping of cake. "Oh, go ahead."

Will's blue gaze would travel over his wife - tracing every line of her as if he were memorizing her all over again - and then his children, and a look of happiness that was sharp and gentle at the same time would come over his face.

"Technically, darling, being present during interrogation is his job," said Will.

"Will, dear, I'm going to check with Gabriel and Cecily."

She smiled affectionately at Will and gave Thomas an encouraging look before letting herself out of the Sanctuary.

"You", he said. "Did you know, you grow more beautiful every day?"

"And yet," said Will, "you continue to accrue radiance."

When she tilted her head up and brushed his lips with hers, he cupped her face in his hands. So many years, he thought, and each kiss was new as the break of day.

I’m so calm.

Can you tell us the original ending you planned for chain of thorns?

I can tell you part of it was older James on his deathbed, and as he lay dying seeing all of his friends who had died so horribly so long ago waiting for him on the other side, and thinking how he had never had friends again like the ones he had when he was young.

(Certainly an ending that would have wiped out any possibility of future TLH projects or stories with those characters in them.)
