the thing about rebooting house md in 2024 is that you simply cannot do the level of queerbaiting they did in 2004 in the modern day, where everyone on serialised tv talks like they got a good grade in therapy. i don't want a house/wilson friends-to-lovers-to-healthy-relationship romance arc. i want to see them be as emotionally unwell and enabling and as codependently devoted and self-destructively toxic as ever, just with more making out at the end.
so my ideal house md reboot for 2024 would keep everything basically the same, with the exception of newer tech and slightly updated medical lingo, but with one crucial change:
mid-series (like around season 4-5) house and wilson take a bet and gay-chicken themselves into an actual, legally binding marriage. their impending divorce/annulment/infidelity/emotional implosion becomes a running gag, because they're actually still telling people they're superplatonic boybesties and nothing more.
cishet "marriage is awful" jokes ensue.
couples's therapy jokes ensue
"wilson is the evil stepdad" jokes ensue
house/cuddy happens. wilson/sam happens. wilson/amber happens. open marriage-to-infidelity-to-divorce-pipelines jokes ensue. (they are constantly compared to taub's marriage)
it's all treated as a joke until it's suddenly not, and then it's as serious as a heart embolism.
they tear eachother apart emotionally, they go full-on mountain goats alpha couple over it, they guilt-trip and manipulate and point blame and it all boils down to how they can't get divorced because they can't let the other go
by which i mean: wilson cancer arc, line by line the same, except they're still married.
I've been resource gathering for YEARS so now I am going to share my dragons hoard

I love house md. it’s gay, its homophobic. it’s ableist, it has some of the best disability representation I’ve seen. medical malpractice and felonies are committed pretty much every episode, some of these aren’t even related to the case. for as bonkers as everything gets it never stops being a medical drama. it a fucking sherlock adaptation
