👻 Last night before doing my treadmill workout, I began working on a drawing of Scooby-Doo teamed up with Alexander Cabot III from “Josie and the Pussycats”. After rewatching scenes from “The Haunted Showboat” episode from “The New Scooby-Doo Movies”, I decided to maybe take a whack at doing a drawing of Alexander with Scooby and Shaggy or just of him with Scooby only. My favorite scenes from the episode are of Shaggy, Scooby, and Alexander fleeing in fear of the Ghosts of Captain Scavenger and Injun Joe. 🐾
🦴 The “mystery-solving teens and a pet/mascot” formula popularized by “Scooby-Doo” and other shows in the 70s made its way onto a segment of “The Flintstone Comedy Show”/“Flintstone Frolics”. “Pebbles, Dino, and Bamm-Bamm” involved Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm as teenagers, accompanied by Dino, solving mysteries throughout Bedrock.
In “The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show”, Penny has an unexplained dislike of the geeky and friendly Moonrock and only refers to him as “Creep”. In the episode “The Birthday Present”, while searching for Pebbles’s missing birthday present for Wilma, the kids investigate at the Gruesomes’ spooky house and are spooked by Gobby and his giant spider. Penny apparently jumps into Moonrock’s arms while Wiggy leaps onto his shoulders.
🐾 I based these character studies on rough model sheet drawings of a puppy version of Astro by Willie Ito. In the 70s, Hanna-Barbera was in the process of developing a reboot of “The Jetsons”. It would’ve revolved around Elroy as a teenager and Judy as an ace reporter. CBS turned down the idea in favor of “The Patridge Family 2200 AD”. 🚀
Warner Bros backpedaled so hard on the coyote vs acme situation because apparently after they announced that they weren’t gonna release it, a bunch of creatives called and cancelled their booked meetings and movie pitches with the studio to go other places.
After all, what’s the point of making a movie with Warner Bros when it’s more likely that they’re just gonna use it as a tax write off and never let it see the light of day?
