you don't have to answer this if you don't want to but long story short, i have only recently gotten back to rpc and the people i used to write with all moved to discord now. can you tell me how roleplaying works there? do you still use icons? do i have to be in a group to write with multiple people now? i ran a multi-ship indie blog and what i love about roleplaying on tumblr is that i can ship my muse with as many other characters as i want. if i remember right, most group rps don't allow multi-ship unless it's polyamorous. how can i have romantic 1x1 roleplays with different people using only one muse like i used to on my indie blog? sorry if this is all too much! you don't have to answer if it's a bother!

I'd say rping on Discord is sort of like rping on Tumblr but without having to worry much about blog themes and fancy fonts. If you want to write with multiple people using the same muse and you prefer to have your threads open for anyone to read, then I definitely suggest joining a Discord rp group! Most of them require specific settings and overall plots though so if you want more freedom in terms of various AUs and whatnot, I'm afraid you will have to go with private 1x1 rps.

I only do private 1x1 rps so that's the only thing I think I can explain how it works.

So basically, you can look for roleplay partners by going through rp search blogs. I highly suggest @rphunter and @findroleplay. You can check out roleplayfinder too and although they're not as active as the other two, they're probably the biggest rp finder blog on this site. But I think you have more freedom in terms of interests with the first two blogs that I mentioned.

You can send an ad of your own (as long as you've read each finder's respective rules) or you can just click like on any of the ads that catch your interest and hope that the person who sent it will reach out to you via IM.

Once you've found your writing partner and have worked out the details on your roleplay, you or the other party can create a private server. This is basically where you actually rp but you can make channels for OOC stuff.

As for icons, not many people on Discord use rp icons but I've been lucky enough to find those who do. I've also influenced some of the people I've been writing with to start using them as well! I usually make some for them for free in that case (which are the ones you'd find in my store). It's really great for immersion! ^^

Using icons on Discord would look like this:

We also use tupper bot to create profiles of our characters so that when you post on a certain channel, they will appear as what you can see on the image above rather than your own Discord profile. So it's still like posting on Tumblr and seeing your muse's icon rather than your personal one. But that's a whole different guide haha
