This is supposed to be children of Hero's who were killed by their parents, chilling in a field. Hopefully having a much peaceful afterlife compared to their lives.
Hippolytus- son of Theseus and the Amazon Hippolyte - who was killed by Poseidon as a wish from Theseus after being falsely blamed for Phaedra (Theseus's wife) suicide.
Iphigenia- daughter of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra - who was killed in a sacrifice to Artemis in order to sail to Troy.
and Medea's and Jason's sons- who were killed by Medea for revenge against Jason, and after researching were not able to find definitive names for them in the play which is tragic. But I haven't read the play so I could be wrong.
Feel free to correct me if I got any information wrong :).

No thoughts brain empty except for that one scene in the Iliad where it’s said that Menelaus stood over Patroclus’ body like a cow over her first calf

and it literally is that bc like:
cleopatra and kleopatros (kallipateira too??) mean the same thing as patroclus: glory/pride of the father (something similar perhaps. i’m not an expert-) but they’re ordered as pride/glory then father. and patroclus.. is ordered as father then kleos. literally daddy’s boy lmfao

people have criticized emily wilson translating a line about agamemnon with "cannibal king, you eat your people up" but i personally love it...it feels like achilles is specifically referencing the rampant cannibalism in the house of atreus (tantalos trying to feed pelops to the gods/atreus feeding thyestes his own sons), a subtle way to remind agamemnon that he is atreides and therefor cursed multiple times over

*Notes: I love making comics but find the writing process difficult, this is something I need to work on, as I have so many ideas but struggle to write them out. I stumbled upon Lucian's Dialogues on Tumblr and thought his charming, tongue-in-cheek style would be a good way for me to practice my comic-making. :')
"Lucian of Samosata was a Greek satirist who flourished in the region of Commagene near Syria in the C2nd A.D. He was the author of numerous works, which include: The Dialogues of the Gods, Dialogues of the Sea Gods, and Dialogues of the Dead."
I opted for a simple color scheme because as much as I love full-color comics, it would take me so much longer to get this done.

I think that one of my favorite parts of studying the Iliad and the Trojan war is how incredible the world building is. The fact that you can research any of the characters and find their life prior to and (in some cases) after the Trojan War, their families and typically fathers which themselves form parts of different epics (Telamon, Peleus and Laertes all being Argonauts who sailed with Jason for the golden fleece) (Depending on the version Herakles, Orpheus, Theseus and Atalanta could’ve also been there with them), and just how much content there is about each figure in the war that you wouldn’t know just by reading the Iliad.
Why was Paris chosen by the gods to pick which goddess was the most beautiful? He proved to the gods on a previous ocassion in a bull competition he hosted which Ares won that he was a fair and honest judge (I guess he lost that fairness in judgement by the time the goddesses appeared before him)
How did Achilles become such an almost undefeatable warrior? He was the son of an Argonaut and a sea-nymph raised by Hera whom both Poseidon and Zeus wanted to bed, and was trained by mighty Chiron who taught heroes like Orpheus and Herakles.
Why are the walls of Troy “impenetrable”? They were built by Apollo and Poseidon disguised as humans due to a punishment from Zeus.
And this is all known with thousands of lines of the Trojan War’s story being lost to time. Imagine if we had more of the Nostoi or Cypria or Little Iliad, if we still had plays like “Myrmidons” or had a better historical understanding of Mycenaean Greece.
And still, with all this content, the Trojan War is just a section of the greater greek myths. The mythologized greek world existed far before Troy, and it continued to push forward far after.

Totally in favor of the Troy Hater Gang wearing sightly less historically accurate but sexier hoplite instead of mycenian armor, because my boy Odysseus is already sturdy and you all want him roaming around looking like a rolly-polly?

The Twelfth Night picture of course
This is a twin drawing to this one on Instagram ✨✨
Menelaus was such a trooper. He really resisted being part of this one, but he pulled through. Now I’ve got a deal to uphold.
(Edited, if you see the spelling with a K floating around, yeah what the hell and also how did I not notice)

~ Hephaestus' children are born to burn ~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image Description: On a dark red background and surrounded by glowing flames, Leo Valdez looks around in fear while Charlie Beckendorf crouches in front of him, visible from the waist up. Leo had his hands out, as if to ward off the fire snaking up behind him, feeling just as trapped and fearful as he did when he was eight years old and he saw his mothers warehouse go up in smoke.
Charlie is not afraid, however, and instead appears determined. One hand cups the air around the lit match he's holding, which burns bright, ready to explode Luke Castellans boat and sacrifice his life in hopes to protect the world.
Neither child of Hephaestus met and Leo would only vaguely know of Charlie as the legacy of the once-cabin-leader for their siblings. Both children were forged in fire at the start and ends of their lives, and both were destined to burn.]
