Me explaining, once more, that being interested in a particular historical figure or era does NOT necessarily equate to supporting it ‼️ Creators shouldn’t have to make a piece of work “clean” just because some readers may get uncomfortable. If anything, we should be promoting the exploration of uncomfortable topics- proper research and portrayal should be praised. Bring back historical and media literacy.

forever emotional about the fact that Jack Phillips turned 25 only four days before the Titanic sank. he had so much life left to live.
on April 11th, 1913, he would've turned 26.
on April 11th, 1953, he would've been 66 (the age Harold Bride was when he died in 1956).
today marks his 137th birthday.
just. forever emotional

I feel like Cpt. Daniel Gregg has some parallels with Mr. Darcy, Cpt. James (BBC Ghosts), and Julian (BBC Ghosts) 😭👍 Anyhoo this movie is my new roman empire

hey can you help me understand haunting of the queen mary
Ofc!
Basically, a 1930s family of Vaudeville/Music Hall performers (the Ratches) wanted to immigrate to the US via the Queen Mary. Unfortunately, an ex-convict (Clarky/Edward Clarke) who was employed to help construct the ship was sacrificed as a way to ensure that the QM would be sturdy. Foundational sacrifices usually say that the person being offed would become the guardian/protector of the structure/place in the afterlife. Thus, Clarky’s ghost was out for revenge- wanting to escape the ship.
As David, Gwen, and Jackie/Cassandra were vulnerable emotionally, I think Clarky took this as an opportunity to hijack David and use him as a vessel of chaos to get rid of his enemies onboard (including Captain Carradine). Note that this movie also has themes of social class division.
Anyways David/Clarky goes on his spree, and during the evacuation scene, Carradine kills David- not knowing that Clarky’s ghost would be sent back to the ship. Also note that Carradine’s just kinda a mess in general and that he just somehow knows that the QM is haunted. He’s not too relevant although I love him as a character lol. Both Carradine and Gibson get shot somehow but neither of them die onboard as we don’t see any of their ghosts.
Anyways it seems that clarky stays onboard the QM for another however many years until the modern plot. I forgot the modern family’s name but David/Gwen/Jackie’s ghosts want to possess them because their family dynamic is similar and it would preserve the Ratch family’s own relationship.
Bittner is Clarky’s latest possession. He don’t really know about him otherwise but I loveeeeeee how he’s just jamming out to the drums during the phone call scene. Anyways, because Clarky is the original sacrifice of the ship, he’s more bound to the essence of the Queen Mary than the other ghosts- he is ONE with the ship. This is why he gets injured whenever the modern couple broke down a wall or something.
OTHER STUFF
-The two ships on the wall in the Queen’s salon moving were originally supposed to signify the QM and her sister ship’s relative location to each other, but in HOTQM, it represents ghostly activity.
-No, we don’t know who Torres is still lmao😭
-Viktor/The Napoleon looking guy is just an irrelevant jerk. Nothing more to him.
-Clarky calls Jackie “Cassandra” because Clarky’s ghost only overheard Jackie stating her “new name” to her dad.
Anyways this is all I can think of rn! Hope it helped c:

As a BBC Ghosts AND Titanic nerd, I feel the urge to draw Fanny completely going Karen-mode at Bruce Ismay over the whole missed ticket/impersonation fiasco (from the BBC Ghosts book!!) 🤭

Since you're working on your game + made that wonderful illustration of 1997 Andrews, I wonder: you ever draw Lights or Murdoch (or other crew members)?
I haven’t drawn Lights or Murdoch but I’ve drawn Phillips!

Do you like unfiction, history, ARGs, and conspiracy theories?
I'm creating a web-based alternate reality game set from the 1800s to the 1930s! Dear Clarent is a continuously (usually weekly) updated experience where players read letters, solve puzzles, and connect together seemingly random events and people.
As a bonus, most of our characters are petty middle aged, gilded age millionaires who spend their vast fortunes ruining each other for comedically petty reasons!
Enjoy ;) https://dearclarent.com
