Ren!

I’ve finally broken my art block with FuwaPow (at least for now). Ren is a personal favorite character of mine. His profile is a first for me; I don’t usually draw guys or wheelchair users. The role he plays in FuwaPow will be kept vague for now, I hope you look forward to meeting him :)

Ren’s Wiki Bio:

An enigmatic boy being held captive by Nocturna. He seems strangely calm despite his situation. His dreams produce unusually high levels of Yumeki, which led to him being kept as a sort of personal power bank that Nocturna has endless access to. The constant draining of his Yumeki has caused permanent damages to his body. He mostly uses a self-maneuverable wheelchair to get around and a cane when walking short distances. Despite being a prisoner of Nocturna, he is carefree and can do as he pleases around her palace. He is often seen spending time with Yoru. They seem to be very close, with Ren being the only person that can make her smile.

Hi hi!! This’ll be my first ever Fancurie I’ll be participating in, and I’m so excited for you all to see my Precure ocs! I’ve been working on some of them in secret silently working on their designs, so I hope y’all like them!! Without further ado, let me show you my current Fancure groups!

🕣 TICK TOCK Time Travel Pretty Cure 🕣

Themes: Time travel, history

A group of evil time travelers are trying to manipulate history and steal the coveted Time Jewels to awaken an evil king! The Ethereal Goddess sends one of her precious fairies, Albus to head to Earth to find the Legendary Pretty Cure, the only people with the powers to stop them.

Back on Earth, two college students both studying history, Bria Ethans and Gail Sharpe become rivals, due to rhwir clashing personalities and their hatred towards eachother. Unfortunately for them, not only are they roommates with eachother, they’ve also been chosen to be the new Pretty Cure, meaning they’ll have to be forced to work together. Great….

TICKTOCK Time Travel is a fanseries combining my love for history and magical girls! Not only does it involve some time travelling and learning shenanigans, it has a rivals to lovers story with Bria and Gail! Albus is also my little scrunkly EEEEEEEE

Cure Tempora | Bria Ethans is an energetic and excited young woman, though she's reckless and a bit proud at times. She is loud, brash and extroverted. She tends to act before she thinks, leading her and Gail into trouble. She’s studying to become an archaeologist as she has always dreamed of becoming as a child.

Cure Memoria | Gail Sharpe is a quiet and intelligent young woman, who's also quite cold at times. Gail is introverted, cold and calculating. She’s the brains of the two, but can be blunt at times and can come off as rude, which causes friction between her and Bria. She’s from a rich family that expects highly of her, expecting her to become a lawyer.

Albus is is a rabbit-like Time Fairy from the Ethereal Realm, and is Gail and Bria's fairy guide. A very nerdy and sweet young boy, Albus is responsible and hardworking but can come off as naive somtimes. He has the best intentions in mind, always trying to get Bria and Gail to work together. Though he can't help but be exhausted and tired by their bickering.

☁️ DREAMCATCHERS!! Pretty Cure ☁️

Themes: Dreams (both aspirations and sleep kinds), childhood, reconnecting with your inner child

After years of being trapped behind a barrier, the Nightmare Realm are threatening to escape and take over not only the Dream Realm, but the entirety of the universe. The King and Queen of the Dream Realm gave the Revêur Jewels to their daughter, Princess Celestia and sent her to Earth in a hopes that she’ll find the Legendary Pretty Cure that’ll save them. Celestia, disguising herself as a European foreign exchange student lands in Japan on a quest to find the Pretty Cure, to not only save the universe but prove herself to her parents that she is worthy to be the next Queen.

She thinks this job will be easy when she finds out her potential candidates for Pretty Cure were all childhood best friends. But she soon realises that they had all drifted apart after elementary, and don’t plan on reconnecting. So now Celestia is on a quest to save her Kingdom, and save the Pretty Cures friendship! Won’t be too hard, right??

DREAMCATCHERS!! was actually one of my first ever Pretty Cure fanseries, made back in 2019 and formerly known as Dream Big!! I decided to revamp it a bit and change a bit of the story and cast (Fun Fact: Celestia was originally the midseason cure in the original version!) I currently only have their designs in this chibi/sketch-esque form, I’ll try to give them proper refs later!

Celestia Mercier | Cure Fantasy is the leader of the team, as well as the princess of the Dream Kingdom. An optimistic, kind, and hardworking girl, who is the soon to be ruler of the Dream Kingdom. She dedicates herself to being as best of a ruler she could be. She is responsible and reliable, but she can be idealistic to a fault.

Yume Yasuda | Cure Nostalgia is the responsible, cold and intelligent class representative. Yume has earned a reputation for being mature despite her young age. She believes in facts and logic only, and takes her responsibilities seriously, yet comes off as insensitive or disconnected from her peers.

Sora Kayako | Cure Wish is the lead player of the school’s soccer team, known for her hotheadedness, stubbornness and short temper. She has a streak of easily getting mad at people and being rude. Despite this all, she's driven by a fierce determination to succeed.

Hinako Tachibana | Cure Child is a shy and gentle girl who aspires to become a baker. She has a heart of gold, being kind and generous, always striving to please others. However, her tendency to strive for perfection often leaves her feeling self-critical about herself.

Kasumi Tachibana | Cure Lullaby is a confident, passionate and determined young lady. Kasumi is one of the most popular girls at school, mostly due to her family’s wealth and her natural beauty. She tends to be stubborn though, and often mocks and judges those she believes to be below her.

Fuwa Power☆For Your Consideration!

As the Fancuries approach, and as voting opens, I humbly ask the wonderful fancure community to take a peeksy at FuwaPow and think about nominating!

Mochizuki Maika, an energetic 13-year-old girl, moves into Fuwayama City with big hopes for her new school. On her first day in the on-campus dormitories, she meets and hits it off with a mysterious old woman named Yumeno Eiko. Maika believes her day couldn't get any better, but when Ms. Yumeno suddenly runs off, she finds herself in a magical plight as two fairies named Nighty and Twyla suddenly appear looking for her friend!

The core themes of FuwaPow are "self-care, self-love, and maintaining good habits" which tie in with the overarching motifs of "sleep, night/morning, stars, the moon, clouds, clocks, and wings."

Now, let's get to the fun part...

MOCHIZUKI MAIKA/CURE REVERIE! (Pink)

Mochizuki Maika (13) is a chronic daydreamer. Her catchphrase is “I’m over the moon!” After meeting Ms. Yumeno, Nighty, & Twyla, she becomes Cure Reverie; The Pretty Cure of imagination and dreams. “Full of fantasy and endless dreams! Up and at it, Cure Reverie!”

HIRANO KIRARI/CURE SHINE! (Yellow/Orange)

Hirano Kirari (13) is an aspiring idol. Her catchphrase is “It’s super shining!” After meeting Ms. Yumeno, Nighty, & Twyla, she becomes Cure Shine; The Pretty Cure of optimism and light. “Full of light and endless energy! Up and at it, Cure Shine!”

ASAHARA KOTOMI/CURE LULLABY! (Purple)

Asahara Kotomi (13) is a hardworking big sister. Her catchphrase is “Of course I knew that!” After meeting Ms. Yumeno, Nighty, & Twyla, she becomes Cure Lullaby; The Pretty Cure of care and tender feelings. “Full of song and endless love! Up and at it, Cure Lullaby!”

NAGUMO SARA/CURE COZY! (Green)

Nagumo Sara (14) is a kind, responsible role model. Her catchphrase is “Leave it to Sara!” After meeting Ms. Yumeno, Nighty, & Twyla, she becomes Cure Cozy; The Pretty Cure of safety and solace. “Full of warmth and endless kindness! Up and at it, Cure Cozy!”

TSUKIYOMI HOTARU/CURE CRESCENT! (Blue, 6th Ranger)

Tsukiyomi Hotaru (14) is a quiet, observant girl. Her catchphrase is “Wicked!” About halfway through the story, she becomes Cure Crescent; The Pretty Cure of strength and rebirth. “Full of hope and endless courage! Up and at it, Cure Crescent!”

THE CAST~

YUMENO EIKO/MS. YUMENO!

The kind old woman who owns Mahou Monogatori. After retiring from the Sweet Dream Kingdom royal guard, she became a citizen of earth and opened her bookstore. She is surprisingly cheeky and loves to tease the cures. The Fuwa Power team often hold meetings at MahouMo much to her delight. She's been deemed the "Team Grandma" by Twyla.

NIGHTY!

Nighty was once a powerful figure in the Sweet Dream Kingdom before Nocturna attacked. With his nurturing and kind personality, he’s often a pillar of support for the team. His extensive knowledge of Yumeki magic is his greatest pride. His greatest annoyance is Yumeno hijacking his speeches with far more interesting information.

TWYLA!

A childish fairy who, along with her guardian, Nighty, came from Sweet Dream Kingdom to find the Pretty Cure. She is a big fan of cuddling and sits in the girls' laps as much as possible. Her empathic powers can help in crucial moments when the emotions of others start to boil over.

THE DREAM EATERS~

NOCTURNA

The leader of the Dream Eaters and de facto Queen of Sweet Dream Kingdom. At first glance, she is strict but reasonable, treating her subordinates like unruly children. However, deep down she is an extremely hateful woman who excels in emotional manipulation of others. Above all else, she craves power and control. The Dreaming Candle, Late Queen Chiharu’s most powerful weapon, is said to be the only thing able to put a stop to someone of her caliber. She possesses a single piece of the broken staff, and will stop at nothing to find the other 8 before the Pretty Cure can obtain them.

RAN-RAN

The coolest and most confident member of the Dream Eaters’ REM Trio. Ran-Ran is full of attitude, her snarky remarks often causing arguments with her fellow general, Encoru. She prides herself on speed and efficiency when completing jobs, making her repeated defeats at the hands of the Precure a huge annoyance.

ENCORU

The most dramatic member of the REM. He’s a sucker for spectacle, thriving when the spotlight is on him. Encoru hates people who try to outshine him and those who keep the pizzazz to a minimum. He is somewhat indifferent to the Pretty Cure, since he appreciates their flair, but is not a fan of how often they defeat him.

MOB

The oldest of Nocturna’s commanders. They often switch pronouns, using He/They/She interchangeably. They’re the odd one out, considering he doesn’t quite care for grand acts of evil. Mob doesn’t care for much in general. Her glass is always half empty, and she only works with Nocturna because she loves the Dream Eaters' aesthetic. In their free time, he writes poetry and hangs out with the local crow populations.

THE CURE CLOCK & PRECHARMS~

The team's transformation device. It can take on the appearance of a watch that allows the Cures to transform after their separate PreCharm's are attached to the origin of the clock hands while saying "Pretty Cure, Dreamy Switch On!" The PreCharms allow theCure's individual transformations, as each PreCharm is linked to a team member and fueled by their own Yumeki. They also grant them the ability to perform different kinds of magic attacks.

That was a lot... BUT it makes sense, as Fuwa Power has a lot of time put into it. I'm super proud of my work and getting to interact with everyone in the fancure community is the absolute best! I'm really curious, what apps/programs did you use to make your logo?

For the first version of the logo, I used IBIS Paint X. It was the app I stared drawing on when I was in 6th grade and I hadn’t used it in years until making the logo. The reason for that is IBIS Paint has an outline feature (which is great for logos).

For the current version, I used my typical drawing app, Procreate! I’m much more proficient on it and the image quality was a lot higher. To compare:

what advice would you give to someone new to the community who wants to write their own fancure series?

DO👏🏻IT👏🏻FOR👏🏻YOU👏🏻

In the past, I have made two fanseries. Both on Amino, and both were flops. That's because I based my fanseries' worthiness on how popular it was. My co-creator and I had good ideas, but we sacrificed good, genuine, writing for stories about what we thought would score big on the Amino (angst, drama, etc.). It was pandering for validation, and it DIDN'T work.

There is no wrong way to write your fanseries, as long as you're making it how you want to. You don't have to adhere to the typical 'rules' of a precure season to make a good story. You could make a series based on the Teletubbies for all I care. As long as you don't force yourself to create, your work will be so, so worth it.

To quote HUGtto, "You can do anything! You can be anything!" That 100% applies not only to you, but your fanseries as well. Put yourself & your creation out there because people are going to come running, and they'll be amazed by your own unique point of view.

6th Ranger Reveal!

Hello friends! Happy New Years :)

I said awhile ago that the 6th ranger for Fuwa Power would be revealed soon. Honestly, I wanted to keep her completely anonymous until I wrote her into the story, but I should've known that wouldn't happen haha. Writing is so much easier said than done.

ANYWAY, with that being said, I won't reveal much about Ms. 6th Ranger's story (because spoilers). Regardless, I hope you like her!

This is Fuwa Power's 5th and final cure, Cure Crescent! She is the Pretty Cure of the Moon; Representing strength and rebirth.

Hotaru herself is very close with Sara. She's the second oldest of the team, despite being constantly doted on by Kotomi. She is curious, knowing very little about life in Fuwayama. Her catchphrase is "Wicked!" She adopted it after hearing Maika once say it ironically, and fell in love with the word (unironically).

Cure Crescent won't show up for a while. However, I'm excited to get to work on episode 2! Thank y'all for being so supportive. It really means the world☆

Which Precure seasons have you watched? Which one was your favourite? Which ones did you feel most inspired by when it comes to the project?

I’ve seen Happiness Charge and Go! Princess. Happiness Charge I watched in my freshman year of high school, and Go! Pri I watched this fall. Out of the two, Go! Princess is my favorite. I’m a sucker for analyzing stories and writing, and Go! Princess is one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. It also helps that my roommate and I watched it together which was an awesome bonding experience. We are now watching HUGtto. And while it’s definitely got a messier story, I can’t help but adore it. There’s just something about HUGtto that makes me connect with the characters much more than Go! Princess.

ANYWAYS as for my inspirations for Fuwa Power, I have to credit Go! Princess with getting me back into fanseries writing. I’ve made two fanseries before with a friend. However, back then we weren’t writing for ourselves and were more-so doing it to gain acceptance in the fancure community. They weren’t good and they weren’t popular. HOWEVER, after watching the first episode of Go! Pri by myself I realized how much I was overcomplicating my fanseries. It didn’t need to be angsty or completely unique to be good. That’s why when Fuwa Power came to me during a bout of insomnia (haha irony), it felt so much easier.

And, last thing, in the beginning I was very adamant that Fuwa Power shared the theme of ‘dreams’ with Go! Princess BUT NOT in the same way. I wouldn’t let anyone go without knowing that FuwaPow was about like sleep-dreams and not aspiration-dreams hah!

How did you come up with names for the main characters? How would you advise coming up with names to others? I'm a bit stuck with my own Precure project.

EEEEE YES!

As a proud neurodivergent, I can confidently say that my special interest is names. So keep in mind that I dedicate WAY too much time to stuff like this.

The two things that help me with naming the most is either

Character Appearance

Character Theme

Or both!

For example: When I decided my purple cure would be based on singing/lullabies, I knew I wanted her name to be music related. Hence: Kotomi (essentially meaning 'beautiful instrument')

However, for Sara, her name is not Japanese in origin; that would usually bother me. Just one look at her, though, told me that I'd make an exception because she was just Sara. Her name means princess, and I felt that the meaning fit her quite well.

I won't go on because I'd be here for hours. Though, I will share my favorite place to search for names + their meanings! Both sites have a great filtering system, so I'd highly recommend them!

It’s a bit embarrassing, but it took me some time to realize that the white fluffy wings on the sides of the heads of certain characters like Ran-Ran and Ms. Yumeno were their actual ears and not just matching earmuffs or ear plugs of some kind. With that being said… If a person from Earth and a person from another world (like, with wing ears) had a kid, what would that kid’s ears look like?

OOh that's such an interesting question.

Honestly, I think that Sweet Dream Kingdom attributes are dominant genes. My theory is that a kid born from a human and sweet dream kingdom native would have elf-like ears but a little... rounder?

Like this! The skin of the ears would also be considerably lighter than the rest to emulate the white of the wing-ears :)

Do you have advice on making a logo? I’d like to make a logo for my fan series but I’m unsure what would look best!

I’m nowhere near professional, so take this with a grain of salt. But I think the biggest thing to consider with your logo is the silhouette! How is it gonna be formatted? With FuwaPow, I wanted it to be somewhat round like Healin’ Good. That helped me when I thought of the decorative aspects of the logo. Try not to over-design as it’ll make things more stressful for you. I think I capped the amount of symbols (Star, hearts, rainbow, etc) at five to ensure it didn’t become too cluttered.

Idk if that helps at all haha. Logos are tough and tbh I used to hate making them. But you’re always able to change up and improve them! Best of luck, dear :)
