"You put words together and they made me feel things." - Eefkakis, 02.03.24
So casually writing Chapter 8 at the moment, right?
I know I'm taking ages, I'm sorry. IT'S A BIG ONE.
And.
I get distracted by TikToks and Reels (as one does).
Then THIS MF proceeds to pop up on my FYP:
(OG Creator on Instagram -> @that10r)
And I proceed to LOSE MY SHIT BECAUSE-
*fanatically talking to myself in a mirror* You do NOT need to write an entire Modern AU HTTYD Fanfic just so you can have a Biker Hiccup with that vibe. You do not.
You do not.
YOU DO NOT.
Anyway.
I'm almost done with Chapter 8, but I'm not doing well, whatsoever.
Writing Chapter 8 of PoA right now and just popping in to say...
Please, remember that Path of Alfheim is tagged as a Dark Romance with Enemies to Lovers, m'kay? This is a friendly reminder that they are true enemies, ya'll. Not Bully x Bullied, not #Idontlikeyou, but I am vibrating with the need to splatter you against the wall. Okay?
They're tryna kill each other.
And another reminder that the FMC is practically a Villain... a'ight? If I've described Hiccup as morally grey, the Reader is morally black.
I don't want people coming in and asking why she's mean. Or doing villain-things. You read the tags and clicked anyway.
I have spent the majority of these past few weeks doing some light editing and polishing Path of Alfheim. I am sorry to pull this notorious proverb, which some of you may genuinely be sick of in case you've been reading fanfiction for a while, but English is legitimately not my first language.
I'm an actor by profession and while I am confident in my ability to use literary devices I do sometimes stutter with the occasional context piece being weird or some confusing phrase. Seeing as I started this fanfiction on a whim, and now I'm being quite thorough with the world-building and direction, I figured I should dust off some rickety bits that might have slipped through in the process.
I broaden my vocabulary and knowledge of the English language every day. Especially in terms of what would be used in a more Fantasy-esk, Viking-y setting. (I'm reading Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne right now) Everything from the dialogue to the sort of "technology" they'd have, to their customs and beliefs - it's all inspired by Norse religion. I want to know the correct terminology and idioms to create an immersive story.
For those of you that take the time to follow this Tumblr Page, thank you. I really don't get to make announcements like this on AO3 (I'm not one for Author's Notes as entire chapters, I feel like when you click on a fanfiction it should JUST be the content of the story in there). I have used as much of the beginning and end notes' options as I can without it being an eyesore, I hope.
In other words, I am constantly working on Path of Alfheim.
The chapters are getting broader and more complex because the story I have planned out is genuinely long. And I wanted to pop in to say to you all, worry not, we're still brewing. Even if the chapters are a bit far out in-between.
If you do take the time to skim through earlier chapters (I have edited one through to four so far, currently working on chapter five), you may see it flows a bit better with more structurally sound sentences. I have not changed anything about the plot. I have simply rephrased and polished bits and pieces in a way I think sounds better.
I am super excited to post Chapter 8 hopefully in the next week or two. Cause I'm researching a ton of Viking politics- 👀
As always, thank you, you wonderful people, for enjoying my writing. ❤️
Researching the heck out of Hiccup's map has become a crucial part of devising the action in Path of Alfheim.
And though right now the story takes place primarily on Berk (which deserves a map of its own, and I'm working on it) the interactive map of their world is without a doubt, the first thing I open when I start a writing session.
This is the official DreamWorks HTTYD Map of the Barbaric Archipelago, designed and verified by none other than Hiccup Haddock.
Here ye, here ye, fellow fanfic writers. This one saved my ass. Have at it.
But KEEP IN MIND-
Within five seconds of laying eyes on this thing, I immediately noticed that Berserker Island is conveniently missing... Which is confirmed to be a massive slip up on DreamWorks' behalf.
And I do have to admit that some distances within the map do not make sense. For example Valka's nest and Eret's Port are both further away from Berk than Dragon's Edge. And according to the map (and RTTE) it takes about thirty-two hours to get to the Edge from Berk on dragon back. Which is almost a two day flight, yet somehow in the second movie it took Hiccup and Astrid less than a few hours to fly back to Berk from Eret's Port?
ALSO VALKA'S NEST WAS SO DAMN CLOSE TO DRAGON'S EDGE??? HELLO??? SHE WAS RIGHT THERE!!!
NAHH BRO!! THIS SENT ME 😂😂 I LOVE YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT!!
GREEN.
Made a comic based on Chapter 4 of @h3lfaerie’s Path of Alfheim HTTYD fic. If anyone hasn’t read it I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. Also the reader’s outfit is based off the design by the extremely talented @eefkakis, their art is incredible.
Hi!!!! I absolutely LOVEEEEE Trail to Alfheim, you are SO INCREDIBLY TALENTED!!!! Do you have an example for what the reader’s “tattoo” might look like, or is that a surprise for later? THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THIS BEAUTIFUL CREATION INTO THE WORLD 🐉❤️🐉
Hello!!!
First of all, thank you SO MUCH for your kind words! Path of Alfheim is basically my 2 am brainchild, which has now developed into a full-fledged outline for the whole fic (it doesn't help that when I get on the keyboard, the characters decide to STRAY from the plan and do whatever the fuck they want -> I DID NOT PLAN THE STABBING SCENE! IT JUST OCCURED! )
Something I really like to remind my readers is that the visuals and concept art I personally use for inspiration are more of a guideline rather than a concrete/"canon" depiction of my writing. I'm a huge fantasy reader and one of the primary things that make me passionate about what I do, is the fact that every individual person gets a different "movie" in their head depending on their personality, visual ideas, the content they've consumed so far and so on. I am DYING to see what you guys imagine whenever you read Path of Alfheim, which is why I quite literally foam at the mouth whenever I see fanart.
What I've revealed about the tattoo up until now, is that it is whorls and swirls of black ink along the collarbone.
What I personally visualized while writing (which doesn't have to be what YOU imagine ❤️) was basically swirling tendrils of smoke.
Keep in mind that nothing in my writing is coincidental ❤️ I've devised the entire story from start to finish, which is why I've already planted quite a bit of foreshadowing at the start of the fic.
I will not be apologizing for minds blown or phones thrown across the room when the plot twist hits <3
Much love to you!! And thank you very much for the question!
Absolutely phenomenal animation by @westwindyone inspired by Chapter 5 of Path of Alfheim.
And as dancing and eatery had gone on for a couple of hours, you were glad to see that no one paid you any heed. Even as you looked mere breaths away from emptying out the contents of your stomach. Vikings merely presumed you’ve had too much to drink; in fact, you could hear someone retching in the corner. But you’d soon come to realize that your little outburst in the plaza a few days ago had in fact cost you greatly.
Because it took Hiccup all but a glance to recognize your face. His eyes flared for a moment before he willed himself back into an unassuming smile.
“Astrid, keep smiling like you’re talking to me,” he said quietly. From the side, it seemed like he was merely looking at his partner, but the blonde could see that he was peering somewhere far behind over her shoulder. She followed his instruction, but a flash of tension made a muscle twitch in her jaw.
“What is it?” Astrid gave him a subtle nod. Her unbound hair swayed with the movement, catching in the golden firelight “Are you seeing anyone.”
“That’s her.” At his words, her spine went rigid. “Don’t turn around,” he added quickly.
Hiccup made a subtle gesture with his hand and Toothless instantly sank into the shadows.
. . .
Hiccup raised the goblet he’d stolen from you then; whirled towards the chattering groups nearby and cheered “Skål!”
To your utter horror, everyone replied with: “Skål, Chief Haddock!”
Suddenly you couldn’t hear a thing. Couldn’t hear whatever the Hel he said to the throngs as they retreated – as he dismissed them you realized. Men and women freed the area as the title licked and swirled across the ground and into your ears. Hiccup turned back to you with that devious smile, and you felt the urge to retch again, your cavalier cool exploding like dust from a slammed book.
Fuck.
You were staring at the rutting Chief of Berk.
A huge thank you to Windy, for bringing this Chapter to life. You're a fucking legend.
Once again, I am truly mesmerized by the level of skill, effort and passion put into this artwork. Thank you so much @eefkakis for bringing Path of Alfheim to life like that. This is, without a doubt, the greatest compliment a writer could receive. People like you make this whole thing all the more worth it.
Some more fanart for this amazing story~
@h3lfaerie your fic lives in my head rent-free...~
Never in a million years could I ever expect such a beautiful jaw-dropping work being done in inspiration of my writing. I am legitimately crying my eyes out. Thank you, so unbelievably much, for enjoying my silly little story enough to create such a stunning artwork. The anatomy, the colors, the layers of clothing. I have no words and I am beyond grateful for the time and effort you have put into this.
Recently I've been awe-struck by the beautiful narration and world-building of a certain fic, "Path of Alfheim" by @h3lfaerie. So much so that I just had to visualize the mc of this story.
Although, I do have to say that my art is not gospel. While I adore this story, the concept art that I've created is based purely on how I think the reader appears throughout the fic and would be considered as fanart and nothing more. (Unless anything gets green-lit by the writer).
The writer, themselves, has a sideblog for this specific fanfiction and will be posting art, moodboards, etc., that better correlate to their story.
