Invader Gems Recap 2 page 4!

Recap Kid: Upon Earth, the Amethyst gave her brothers a new quest - to learn to control themselves, so that they might all survive. The fusion found a fellow Garnet, who offered them her wisdom.

Recap Kid continues to read the story. Behind them, we see two scenes - on Recap Kid’s right, we see the Swollen Eyeball Spaceship, crashed in the Strawberry Battlefield, with Almundine walking forlornly away from it. On Recap Kid’s left, we see Almundine looking at Garnet, who is smiling with her palms held up in the universal sign of surrender - or perhaps to show Almundine her gems, which match theirs in shape and size, if not color.

Recap Kid: After many trials, they came to trust themselves and each-other, and promised to keep the secrets of Earth for their teacher until the time is right.

The next panel depicts Almundine standing in a colorful void, holding hands with Sapphire D18 and Ruby Z1M. Their guardians, Professor Muscovite and the Zircons Red and Purple, can be seen, blurry and dream-like, behind them.

Recap Kid: But when they returned home, the couple discovered that their sister has called Homeworld, and were thus torn apart.

The next panels are shown in triplicate - the first depicts Iolite T4K and her Pearl M1M1 holding hands on a messy black backdrop. The second panel depicts Pearl G1R sitting on Ruby Z1M’s lap in the engine room, the ship’s splintered core behind them. The third panel depicts Amethyst G4Z comforting her brother Sapphire D18 in his room.

Recap Kid: BUT…

This next panel mimics the messy black backdrop from three panels ago, upon which stands Iolite T4K and Pearl M1M1’s fusion, Lavender Chalcedony. A glowing white butterfly is perched on her finger.

Recap Kid: Little did they know, the new gems were like them.

The last panel is just Recap Kid reading their book. This concludes the second recap of our story

Invader Gems Recap 2 page 3!

Recap Kid is furious. They hold their hands over the open hardback comic book, palms-up and fingers clawed, glaring down at the pages with obvious offense.

Recap Kid: WHAT THE HECK! NO! Is the author messing with me??? Is she just too lazy to reveal these plot twists in a satisfying way??? This “recap” spoils the entire narrative! I’m… I’m not doing this. I’m skipping ahead. Let’s see… 

Recap Kid rapidly flips through the pages of their comic book, as brief little slivers of the story are illustrated behind them, too small to really make out entirely. There is the torso of a green figure dressed in vertical pink stripes, a fiery event of some sort, a discarded ruby, an abandoned kindergarten, a crying blue eye, and the silhouettes of Blue and Yellow Diamond. 

Recap Kid: Zoisite, Devastis, Rejuvenation, Kindergarten, Lapis Miyuki, the Trial… Ah! Here we are!

Recap Kid is smiling now. They adjust a pair of reading glasses upon their face. Behind them, another illustration stands - that of Red and Purple Zircon, flanking a bubbled Ruby gem. 

Recap Kid: “So the Zircons Red and Purple decided that Ruby Z1M would be assigned to guard Sapphire D18.”

The next illustration shows a ceremony of some sort, overseen by Blue Diamond, attended by the Zircons Red and Purple, officiated by Professor Muscovite and concerning Ruby Z1M and Sapphire D18. We see nothing of Blue Diamond but her gem and a bit of her hair and dress. Professor Muscovite appears to still be under the influence of White Diamond, grand and colorless. Red stands to the left, beside D18, and Purple stands to the left, beside Z1M. D18 and Z1M hold the backs of their left hands towards one another, a violet prism between them. It is unknown what the ceremony is for, though it is likely the legal Homeworld equivalent of something like an arranged marriage.

Recap Kid: “But D18 knew what Z1M really was, so he attacked his Ruby to reveal the truth. And in the heat of battle, THEY FUSED!!!

Ruby Z1M and Sapphire D18′s fusion stands upon a balcony in Homeworld’s capital city. They are a newborn Garnet, who wears a clashing mish-mash of brightly-colored and tattered garments, their mess of cotton-candy curls and hair ribbons blowing in the breeze. Their skin is green, and they wear a single large monocle. Their name, for now, is Almundine.

Recap Kid: “G4Z took her brothers beyond the stars to protect their truth from the watchful eyes of their home.”

G4Z flies the Swollen Eyeball Spaceship through the stars, streaks of limited color indicating that they’re going at warp speed. Three gems sit in the seat beside her: a Sapphire, a Ruby, and a Pearl. Her family.

Recap Kid: “They went on many treacherous adventures, but eventually trapped themselves upon their mother, Earth.”

Almundine stands in a dirt trench on Earth, surrounded by sunlight and strawberry bushes. A grand tree stands behind them, giving them some dappled shade. Their clothing is darker now, less tattered and more coherent, though it is still miss-matched. They wear glasses now, not just a single monocle. They seem more used to fusion, though no less confused by it.

I love your comic! Are you going to keep doing it?

Of course! There are usually about 20+ pages of this comic in production at any given time - I tend to go on doodle sprees and sketch several pages at once, and as of now I have two more recap pages, SEVERAL T4K the Hideous New Gem pages, and a half-dozen sequel pages already fully sketched and partially inked. The reason why there’s so much time between updates is a combination of perfectionism, project-hopping, lack of income (art supplies aren’t free - I’ve gone through at least four sketchbooks, not even counting all the pens, paints, and markers), and my lack of access to a real scanner (especially since the pandemic started). This comic is my passion project. I’m really happy it’s gotten this far, and am excited to show all of you the rest of this story!

Recap Kid: “There once was a Professor, who wandered the Earth to plant the seeds of their people. He learned of Humans, and wanted desperately to be a father. He created two children - a Sapphire named D18, and later an Amethyst named G4Z. For a time, they were happy.”

Recap Kid: “But time is cruel, and so is war. The professor and his children were taken before the Diamonds, and White purified their father, so that he could work for her.”

Image ID: White Diamond holds Professor Muscovite in a small ball of light in front of her, grinning like a proud mother as she does so. Professor Muscovite is only a small black silhouette in the ball of light, no more than a stick figure. Recap Kid: “So the Professor continued his work. He created more children, but these were not his. And yet, even whilst he was under Her control, he sewed his seeds into a new era of Gemkind. Gems who were different, more unpredictable, less controllable. Defects, Off-Colors, and even something completely new...!!!

If D18 doesn’t have a nose, and Z1m doesn’t have a nose... where does Almandine’s nose come from?

My original reason for giving Almundine a nose was because even though Sapphires and Irkens don’t have noses, Rubies and Dibs do. With Z1M being a Ruby!Zim and D18 being a Sapphire!Dib, they might not have visible noses, but they both have nose potential. Potential that might be realized by Almandine...? Either that or it’s a Pinocchio situation, and they won’t have a nose anymore once they stop lying to themselves lol

I felt it would be best to answer this question in-universe! So have some post-Homeworld pre-Earth Invader Gems 😊 ft. This design by anon!
