i'm not disappointed in Taylor's statement today, although it was spineless and neutral in the worst way, because I didn't expect anything more from her.
It's clear to me that Taylor only advocates for causes when it's favorable to her. It would simply not be favorable for her to advocate for any kind of polarizing topic atm because she is at the height of her fame. If she endorses the democrats, or speaks about about Palestine, she will be alienating a portion of her fans, fans who would otherwise have bought music, and merch, and concert tickets.
We have to remember that when Miss Americana was filmed, Taylor was fresh off the heels of reputation, a period in which she wasn't necessarily very well liked. The danger, therefore, was much lesser as she didn't have as much to lose by alienating people.
Taylor is a talented artist, but she's also a capitalist, and her brand depends on her relatability. She's already made her stance on Trump known, and if she further elaborates her position, she's going to alienate people.
Not to say that neutrality isn't a stance in and of itself, but its the least polarizing. No matter your political affiliation, you can pretend that Taylor feels the same, she's RELATABLE to you in that way.
Do I condone or support Taylor's neutrality?? No, of course I wish Taylor would be more outspoken about things she claims to care about, especially since her insistence on advocacy during the Lover era.
But as I said, Taylor is a capitalist and she cares about her brand. She wants to maintain her "on top of the world" status, and even though I don't agree with this mindset, I think it's unlikely she will take any political stance while she continues to become more and more famous and successful.

Now the leader of the federal conservatve party has backed Danielle Smith up. He says he too opposes puberty blockers for minors.
I'll say that again because it's so ridiculous. He. Opposes. Puberty. blockers. For. MINORS.
If puberty blockers aren't for minors, then who are they for??? I don't know a lot of adults going through puberty. I'm pretty sure it's really just in that 10-12 age range, but hell, what do I know?
It's not like I'm literally about to get my degree in Gender Studies and Health Sciences.
It's not like I am more knowledgeable about puberty blockers and trans-affirming healthcare than anyone in government proposing these policies.
It's not like I'm more knowledgeable than anyone that Danielle Smith consulted on any of these policies.
It's not like trans people have been screaming from the rooftops that nobody consulted them about their life experience before announcing these policies.
No, all of that would be ridiculous.
PROTECT TRANS KIDS
I live in Alberta, Canada, which you may have heard is the latest province to introduce their version of "parental rights" legislation.
Here are some of the things our premier, Danielle Smith, promised to do on Wednesday;
mandate teachers report to parents (and ask permission if the child is younger than 16) if a child wants to use a different name/different pronouns in class
mandate permission forms anytime a teacher wants to mention gender or sexual orientation
ban children under the age of 16 from accessing hormones or puberty blockers
ban top & bottom surgery for anyone under the age of 18 (bottom, surgery is already illegal for anyone under 18 in Canada)
ban transgender women from competing in womens sports
These laws have been called "draconian" and were not drafted with consideration from medical, pediatric, or LGBT organizations. Danielle Smith is pandering to the social conservative wing of her party and putting queer kids in danger because of it.
"Parental Rights" are a sham that ignores the lived reality of queer kids.
I've spent the past few days feeling angry and heartbroken, and I wanted to spread awareness and share with my American followers because I haven't seen many news outlets outside of Canada covering this.
