Why "The Curse Of La Llorona" is a MASSIVE miss.
Tumblr media
(REMINDER: This is just MY opinion if you don't like it don't read it.)
Okay so I was really excited to watch this film since the trailer did an excellent job capturing my attention BUT let's just say the movie did...the exact opposite. Let me clarify what I mean.
_____________
So the movie takes place in the 1970s in Los Angeles, where we are introduced to a social worker named Anna Garcia (played by Linda Cardellini) who is also a mother of two Chris ad Samantha (played by Roman Christou and Jaynee-Lynne Kinchen). When Anna is suddenly called to investigate the disappearance of client Patricia Alvarez’s (played by Patricia Velásquez) two children and later their mysterious death she finds herself and her kids being haunted by the spirit of La Llorona. Hopeless Anna asks the church for help who in return give her two options, either wait patiently for Ed and Lorraine Warren to arrive or ask an ex priest to help them.
Now, the plot is interesting and the way they connected it with the other movies was clever indeed but they should have seriously tried a little bit harder. To begin with, the story felt like it was really fast-paced (which it was) and it failed to keep me entertained. For example at some point in the movie they even forget that one of the characters was shot and they have him running around as if nothing ever happened. Moreover Anna needs to be given an oscar for THE WORST MOTHER! Like what mother wouldn't question some strange marks on her kids arm that looked the same as those of the two dead children !? Like come on. And what's ironic is that she IS a social worker and it's her JOB to make sure a child is SAFE! I strongly believe that the movie would have been better of it was filmed from the kids perspective. Exploring their feelings when being tormented by Llorona more would have really made a difference. When it comes to La Llorona I wasn't that impressed with her design and especially how she cried. When I think of the sound she'd make when mourning I imagine a cry full of emotion, grief and regret. I would hear it and it would haunt me even years after encountering her. Also her death was extremely disappointing. She was stubbed with a cross...SUCH AN AWESOME DEATH! (note the sarcasm) And to be honest, the movie wasn't even that scary except maybe for the actresses pronunciation of La Llorona. Yeah now that I think about it, it was petrifying.

I personally wouldn't even stream it. I truly felt like I waisted precious time that I could of spend doing something more interesting or even studying.

Malèna Review
Tumblr media
(REMINDER: This is just MY opinion if you don't like it don't read it.)
Malèna is a romantic comedy-drama film starring Monica Bellucci and Giuseppe Sulfaro. It was directed and written by Giuseppe Tornatore from a story by Luciano Vincenzoni and it won the Grand Prix at the 2001 Cabourg Film Festival.
Plot: The movie takes place in 1940 in a peaceful village called Sicilian. We follow a 13-year-old boy, Renato, who experiences three important events at that point in his life: Italy enters World War II, he gets a new bike and last but not least he sees for the first time the most beautiful woman he has ever laid his eyes on...Malèna. Because of her breathtaking beauty and mysterious personality she quickly became the object of lust and affection for all the men and of envy and loath for all the women of the village. Since the first time he saw her, Renato obsesses over her and stars to stalk and observe her every move. Once Malèna's husband passes away during a battle rumours about her begin to spread in the village but only Renato is the one who knows the truth about what's really going on in her life.
Review: Words cannot describe how spectacular this film truly is. The way it illustrated how a teenage boy views the world even during war and how they can never forget their first love was amazing and the young actor did a fantastic job portraying those feelings. Monica Bellucci was born to play Malèna, with her wonderful acting and beauty bringing life to her character. I truly felt like I was in a way part of the movie, like someone was telling me the story of how they met their first love. Moreover, when it comes to Renato exploring his deepest desires and his sexual experimentation, Giuseppe's incredible expressions and acting helped the viewers understand how the journey of "becoming" a man kinda feels like. On the other hand Monica showed with great accuracy how desperate someone can become when is faced with constant hate and discrimination from a whole community while at the same time being in poverty. Furthermore, I believe that this movie held also a deeper meaning. It presented to the viewers how ugly someone's inner world can actually be portrayed by the women's jealously over Malèna's eye catching beauty and how easy it is for someone to care only for their own desires as seen by the men (at least that's what I understood).

Totally! You should seriously give it a watch.

Is the After movie worth watching?
Tumblr media
I recently went to the cinema in order to watch After and I have to say that it was a pretty good movie despite what I had heard about it from some of my friends who had already seen it before me. From my personal experience I recommend you first watch the film and then read the book (whether it's the published version or the online one doesn't really matter) so as not to be "dissapointed" by the fast-pacing, the alteration of different events and/or incidents that were mentioned in the book but not the movie. Furthermore the movie failed to develop and present the characters personality unlike the book. To be honest I was a little sad that a few of the scenes shown in the teasers and trailers were not included in the final cut (like the one with the book e.t.c.) but even without them the movie was still interesting and captivating despite its few awkward moments. The storyline was close with the books plot and the amazing acting of the actors was what I believe truly captivated the audience during different scenes. In conclusion, I would definitely rewatch this film despite its few flaws and I recommend you give it a chance yourselves.
(Reminder: to those who get triggered easily, this is just MY opinion nobody forces you to listen to me.)
