We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.
Dead Poets Society, 1989 dir. Peter Weir

NEW DARK ACADEMIA TV SHOW IN DEVELOPMENT
Do you like Dark Academia? Do you like horror? Do you like Dead Poets Society, Stranger Things, Haunting of Hill House, Saint Maud, or If We Were Villains? Then you’ll love PINEWOOD.
Tumblr media
PINEWOOD is a new dark academia tv show/web series currently in development. It is being written and developped by up and coming British creators, most of whom are LGBTQA+, and focuses heavily on sexuality, mental health, and the struggles of neurodivergency in academia. We’re working on a proof of concept (a short film used to sell your show to networks), and we have a crowdfunding campaign going to raise funds for costumes, equiptment, etc. You can find that crowdfunder here.
But for now, here’s some more about Pinewood.
Pinewood is a love letter to the dark academia genre. A love letter that takes everything we love about the genre and shoves it out of the safehouse to get devoured by the creatures lurking outside in the dark.
Set in 1972 at an English school for troubled youths, Pinewood explores what it means to be human, what it means to be a monster, and what happens when you don’t know which you are.
It’s a show about teenagers; their feelings, worries, anxieties, loves, fears, and their trauma.
It’s a flickering light. A warm-toned library. It’s a darkened corner of a room. A polaroid of your friends. It’s a black lake. A kiss at dusk. It’s something lurking in the shadows. A secret society meeting. It’s a row of sharp teeth. A funeral.
It’s the brief glimpse of angel wings of Saint Maud. It’s the spirited students of The Dead Poets Society. It’s the flickering Christmas lights of Stranger Things.
The dark academia world we see so often in books is full of social class commentary, strong friendships, gothic architecture, chilly fall weather, queerness, and tragedy. So much tragedy. Pinewood takes these themes, and injects them with an inky black substance that turns mystery and tragedy into horror.
Pinewood is holding your friend’s hand as you explore an abandoned building, and turning around to find they’ve vanished.
Again, you can find the crowdfunding campaign here, and find us on Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter, and TikTok at @pinewoodshow.

writing should be fun.
make oc playlists. spend hours on moodboards that have no purpose. write self-indulgent fluff that’s never going to be published. scribble three lines of poetry in the back of your history notebook. draw fanart of your own characters. write stupid dialogue that your publishers might hate. start new wips that you might never finish but write those three chapters that make you happy because if you don’t write them, who else will?
writing shouldn’t always be about “will publishers like this” or “i have to reach this word count” or “how do i get the most likes”.
have fun with your writing.
