This is one of the most popular photographs off of my Toronto photography blog.  Yonge street is actually a really interesting place and is going through a bit of a forced gentrification from the city.  Stores like this stripper/drag queen shoe store won't be around much longer.  Neither will the costume stores (there are several), used book stores, fruit stands or various industry supply companies.  There are proposals for condos everywhere I turn.

Poster by Anna Standish
Two children find a dead body in rural Ontario. Their town flies into a queer panic, but the children stay silent. Eight years later, one of the friends disappears without warning.
Fort Isabel is a play that explores the childhood experiences that shape us as adults, and how sometimes the deepest secrets are the ones we keep from ourselves.

Two versions Hannah Epstein from when my friend Zack took me along to do photos for this article.
Listening to this interview was really interesting.  Hannah's a great character and is doing a lot of cool stuff.

Clerence is Dead.
He's been dead since last fall and he's been stuck between the double-paned glass of my sliding doors since then.  I wish I could help him.  Give him a proper burial. But I can't reach him.  His legs have slowly curled beneath him and I wonder if he will one day disappear from my life, having disintegrated and fallen into the door track below him.
I wonder how he got in there, in the first place.

St. James Town. The densest area in Canada. 17-25,000 residents in only a few blocks.  It was originally a community housing project, but the city is slowly selling off the buildings and turning them into "luxury condos."  The neighbourhood, especially when you walk through the middle of it, feels like another world.  You're completely isolated once you walk past the first building.  There are grocery stores, schools, shops all contained in the several massive courtyards surrounded by high rises.  The area is marked with poverty, violence and most the buildings are falling apart from the inside out.
The buildings are all named after Canadian cities, with 'The Toronto' being the first one to go condo (of course.)  I've always found the naming of the buildings to be uncanny, like they were indeed trying to create another world when they built the area in the 60's.
I grew up in Toronto and I had never even heard of St. James Town until I was in university.  But, since moving out of The Annex, I've had to walk through its edges routinely when buying groceries or going to the library.
The area stands in stark contrast to Yorkville, The Village and Cabbagetown that surround it.
