Haven’t made music in a long time but always have ideas for songs and concept albums and crap.
Long-game creative project idea:
1) Find out which songs in your iTunes playlist share the most first-words-in-a-song-title. Example: Green Greens in Kirby’s Adventure and “Green Hell - The Misfits” would give the word “Green” a score of 2 overall.
2) The top (most common) twelve words are prompts for your project.
3) Make up twelve song titles. Each title must include one of your twelve words.
4) Compose a concept album using those song titles for each of your songs.
5) Write a story based on the mood and titles of your songs from 4. Plot points or story transitions don’t have to be based on the order of your album’s songs.
6) Make a game based on the story, use the tracks as the soundtrack.
One more thing that’d be cool to see through but likely never will!
Kicked off Summer Slow Jams 2 last night! This time, our goal for the week is to make a game using the tools that Pixel Arts Game Education uses to teach kids how to make games:
• Scratch
• Pixlr
• Beepbox
• bfxr
• Twine
I’ll be giving a workshop on many of these tools this evening (I made the little buddies above using Pixlr), but a couple people have been getting started already after receiving a creative theme for inspiration (our friend made a theme generator for that!).
We’re also hosting a Twine workshop and capping the week off with a big Drink ‘n Draw event :D
Games preview for the upcoming PIGSquad Drink ‘n Draw and XO Kickstarter Launch Party! S’gonna be siiiick :D
...which also means we now have a YouTube!
Got some creative time in at game camp last week! We did a 3-part exquisite corpse drawing, then were prompted to make a character profile or game card out of the results. Love the idea of doing a card game or RPGMaker game based on the mechanics that these hint at.
The Summer Slow Jams flyer is here! Three game jams over the course of the summer just for you :3
Big thanks to hypochondriacdreaming and thedelossopher for arting and planning JamWolf’s premiere art piece. I’ve seen tumblr compress some things, so click here for the confirmed larger/legible verison!
I’ve been accepted into the Oregon Story Board’s accelerator program with my new company Rose City Game Consulting! I started the company to consolidate the numerous ways in which I’ve been consulting, coaching, and designing my way through integrating games into education, leadership training, job creation, psychological science, event organizing, etc, and I’ll be working in an awesome new office space with a load ‘o creatives for the next four months to figure it all out!
And there’s press :D
• Oregon Storyboard Announcement
• Portland Business Journal
• Silicon Florist
I’m organizing a game jam next week! Make a creative game project (a game, some art, an album, an animation, an app, etc.) over the course of the week with the goal of showcasing and sharing it with others!
• Thursday, June 18th: Prep up, find teammates!
• Saturday, June 20th: Jam starts, theme delivered!
• Sunday, June 28th: We're done, show it off!
Meetups are also being planned for us to work with each other through the week :3
I’m in the Portland Business Journal... twice!
