You guys remember when Madja said, “If anyone can sense of anything is amiss, it’s a mate.”
It was Azriel who discovered what was amiss, correct?
I saw an old anti post and it said the reason Elain was having a hard time was because of the pain of losing her fiancé.
Again, did we not read the same book? As soon as Azriel said figured out she was a seer. She came out of the cloudy realm she was in. She was able to make sense of what she was. Feyre also pointed out how Azriel had been the one spending time with her and LISTENING to her. From that, Elain was able to puzzle everything together and we found out about Vassa.
It was Azriel and only Azriel.

I know people are already discrediting Sarah's instagram post today, which is perfectly fine. Of course an author should be able to post about a new album they are enjoying and have that be it. And people are welcome to interpret this however they wish. Confirmation bias is a real thing, and none of us are above it.
For example, I myself am a writer. I spend a lot of time curating playlists that remind me of my characters and help me get in their headspace. I truly believe a lot of writers connect deeply to music and lyrics and poetry that hit deep on themes they explore. So this confirms my bias that Sarah is extremely excited about an amazing song that just dropped by a massive artist that reminds her of her work. That is truly one of the best feelings in the world.
Ana Huang curates playlists for every single one of her couples and books. She both posts them on her website and at the beginning of her books:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These photos were pulled directly from my kindle from her website.
Sarah does have a book announcement coming soon. One of the biggest stars in the world and one of her favorite artists released a song that has an uncanny amount of similar themes to a couple that every major news outlet covering the topic in the past months have suggested is "suspected or likely to be next" and Sarah was genuinely so excited about that song (out of 31 tracks) and said "Thank you for this GIFT."
Just a few weeks ago SJM made a big post about Spring. It was full of flowers, blushes and pinks, and BAKING! All of those things scream Elain, however there was a huge surge of "Sarah is so intentional, she does everything for a reason. There is no way this isn't confirming Lucien or Tamlin endgame." Those same people are now saying that this very pointed instagram post is meaningless and let the woman just post fun stuff that she likes. Sarah also loves flowers and baking in her real life, so that also *could* have just been things Sarah loves and just general ACOTAR buzz since there are new readers every day and the series starts in the Spring Court.
Another important major thing to note is that Sarah frequently states she does not have social media on her phone, she stays out of theory spaces, and she likely does not run her own socials. Most, if not all of her posts are directly related to her books and generating buzz. Her last feed post was about writing the ACOTAR book, and now a song came out that is potentially a perfect fit. This all falls within marketing and generating buzz and conversation. Sarah likely didn't just download instagram to her personal phone, which she avoids like the plague, just to post this one song and then delete it again. It is more likely it fits in with marketing themes.
The truth is, we, as the consumer, do not get to decide the intentions behind a public persona's social media behavior. But when it comes to Sarah's last two instagram stories, it's either both or neither. Either Sarah's flower and baking filled springtime post meant something AND this means something, or neither meant anything.
Sarah is aware everything she does gets dissected. I'm not making a definitive statement whether or not she leans into that, since she hasn't made an outright statement like the queen of easter eggs herself Taylor Swift has.
But there is only one character relevant to both of her instagram stories: Elain Archeron.
Flowers. Baking. Forbidden love.
We don't have to change up the rules or remove anything from the equation to show all signs point to Elain.

The very obvious mate behavior
Hunt risking his life to save Bryce :
Ruhn knew Sandriel had signed her own death warrant when she didn’t bring her triarii back with her. And stamped the official seal on it the moment she’d revealed that she’d put Bryce in the Asteri’s line of fire.
There was no hesitation in Hunt. No fear. Hunt leapt out of the helicopter, his wings tucked in tight. A one-way ticket. His last flight.
Azriel risking his life to save Elain:
From the shadows near the entrance to the tent, Azriel said, as if in answer to some unspoken debate, “I’m getting her back.” Nesta slid her gaze to the shadowsinger. Azriel’s hazel eyes glowed golden in the shadows. Nesta said, “Then you will die.” Azriel only repeated, rage glazing that stare, “I’m getting her back.”
Az hadn’t so much as hesitated before going into the heart of Hybern’s war-camp.
Ruhn in Hosab telling Bryce that Hunt had displayed the first mate behavior towards her back when she was in danger during Hoeab :
This was how he was that day with Sandriel, Ruhn said into her mind. When he ripped off her head. He added tightly, You were in danger then, too.
And what’s that supposed to mean?
Why don’t you tell me? You seem like you know what the fuck is happening with him. Ruhn glared at her as Hunt continued to glow and menace. It means that he’s going ballistic in the way that only mates can when the other is threatened. It’s what happened then, and what’s happening now.

How are y'all saying Azriel's shadows dissipating around Elain is a bad thing?
First of all, they don't "hide" from Elain. His shadows are a part of him, they're not sentient beings. They came to him when he was at his darkest place to give him company. They disappear when they are not needed - aka - when Azriel is comfortable and happy.
His shadows recede whenever he is happy or feels joy or love or comfort. They disappear and skitter around Cassian, Mor, Feyre, around Azriel himself, etc.
Not to mention, earlier in the series when Azriel was in love with Mor, his shadows again - tended to vanish completely around her. Sure she wasn't his endgame, but he did love her and his shadows reacted accordingly to someone he loved.
Now that he has feelings for Elain, his shadows also are prone to vanish in her presence...because he now feels love for Elain.
His shadows disappearing is NOT a bad thing. Azriel himself does not seem overly concerned that his shadows tend to disappear around her. So then why are Gwynriels so concerned on his behalf? Y'all know something this fictional character doesn't?
Also adding the point that the shadows react to Azriel's moods. They swarm him when Azriel thinks something has happened to Elain. They darken the room when Azriel is trying to protect Elain from scrying for the troves.
But they also help Azriel put that necklace on Elain in the BC. How do y'all think that happened if his shadows apparently hate Elain? You think he sat down and gave them a pep talk that they have to be nice to Elain or something 🤡🤡
To make it simple:
Shadows disappear into lightness = Azriel happy
Shadows swarm = Azriel mad / sad
Shadows exist = Azriel is guarded
It's like, common sense I fear 😌

A bird of flame and a lord of fire. I wondered if they'd found each other yet.
It's not just the imagery, the aesthetic and the poetic description but the fact that it's both of them finding each other. Lucien went in search of Vassa. She wasn't searching for Lucien, but Sarah chose the words “found each other” all because he is what she needed as well 🦋

Honestly I have absolutely no qualms with this ship situation. Do I have a preference? Yes, as do most people. But Sarah Janet is going to do whatever she wants.
What I just don’t understand is why people so badly want a story that’s already been written! When we already have two storylines being built up that are so vastly different than anything SJM has ever given us. I’m talking about Elain and Vassa’s stories (since yes, acotar focuses on WOMEN.)
Elain is a seer, something we have never seen before. Her story could potentially explore what it means to break a mating bond, something we have never seen before.
Vassa’s story revolves around a curse and her romantic journey could be fire x fire which, you guys, is HOT AS HELL! (Plus, the curse is broken by true love in the story she is retelling with Vassa.)
I’m sorry but the stories they could have are so unique, and I fail to see how some of you guys don’t want that.

ELRIEL - Guilty as sin?
Tumblr media
What if he's written 'mine' on my upper thigh
Only in my mind?
One slip and falling back into the hedge maze
Oh what a way to die
I keep recalling things we never did
Messy top lip kiss
How I long for our trysts
Without ever touching his skin
How can I be guilty as sin?

i have this report to write but all im thinking about is that Azriel associated the moment between him and Elain to the sanctity of the Mother, whom he has a sweet reverence for.
idk what’s going to come out with the mating bond situation, but I can just imagine the Mother blessing Elain & Azriel and basically im not okay.

Azriel realizing his new room in the townhouse on Solstice eve has a window that overlooks the garden, and staring out it during a whole ass conversation with multiple reminders he is *still* looking out the window towards the garden.
Tumblr media
Being unwilling to make a bet on whether Elain's mate will show up to Solstice, despite being willing to bet on Cassian's shredded wings after they both almost died. And *not turning from the window*
Tumblr media
Remaining at the window and then.... *turning from the garden window at last*.
🧐🧐🧐 hmmm. What's so interesting in the garden Azzy that you can hardly pull your attention away while Rhys and Cassian are talking to you?
Could it be the girl you stay up until 3 am with the very next night listening to as she shows you her sketches for her gardening plans? Hmmm.
In my headcannon, Elain is out in the garden drawing her sketches at this very moment, and Azriel is nervous and anxious to bring it up to her or ask her about it on the sly so he has an excuse to sit and listen to her talk about her passions all night.

eLrIeL iS tOo ClIChÉ
disclaimer 1: this post will contain spoilers for the pairings of every sjm book.
disclaimer 2: if I were to add every single couple sjm has written I would be here all day, so I will only add couples who are currently together (LoA and Beron), endgame (Aelin and Rowan), heavily implied to be endgame (Manon and Dorian) or where one of the people died (Aelin and Sam). I will not add couples that have broken up willingly or really secondary couples.
disclaimer 3: this post is anti gwynriel and elucien and pro elriel. It's also really long.
The argument that elriel is too cliché and cheesy due to the whole "3 brothers, 3 sisters" is so stupid to me. However, due to that part of the fandom and their unwillingness to think objectively, let's look at the statistics, shall we.
Here is a list of the sjm couples and their status as mates or not:
Aelin and Rowan - mates
Yrene and Chaol - humans, not mates
Manon and Dorian - we don't know, maybe
Elide and Lorcan - mates
Lysandra and Aedion - mates
Nesryn and Sartaq - humans, not mates
Elena and Gavin - mates
Aelin and Sam - broken up, not mates
Lyria and Rowan - broken up, not mates
Aedion's mom and Gavriel - heavily implied mates, maybe
Sorscha and Dorian - broken up, not mates
Asterin and the hunter - we don't know, maybe
Feyre and Rhys - mates
Nesta and Cassian - mates
Viviane and Kallias - mates
LoA and Beron - currently together, not mates
Jesminda and Lucien - broken up, not mates
Miryam and Drakon - mates
Amren and Varian - we don't know, maybe
Thesan and his lover - heavily implied mates, maybe
Rhys' mother and father - deceased, mates
Tamlin's mother and father - deceased, mates
Theia and Aidas - broken up, mates
Bryce and Hunt - mates
Lidia and Ruhn - mates
Danika and Baxian - broken up, mates
Sophie and Cormac - heavily implied mates, maybe
Fury and Juniper - we don't know, maybe
Declan and Marc - we don't know, maybe
Ember and Randall - humans, not mates
Bryce and Connor - broken up, not mates
Shahar and Hunt - broken up, not mates
Out of the 32 couples mentioned above, 14 are mates (43.75%), 10 aren't mates (31.25%) and 8 we don't know/it's implied (25%)
Out of the 14 couples who are mates, 12 either died while being a couple or are currently together (85.71%) and 2 are broken up mates (14.29%)
Out of the 10 couples who aren't mates, 3 are humans (30%), 6 are broken up and therefore not endgame (60%) and 1 are currently together (10%)
Before we continue let's talk about the definition of cliché:
something or someone that is not at all original, surprising, or interesting because it has very often been seen before.
In this post, a cliché couple will be part of the highest percentage of it's category.
Now let's add Elain, Gwyn, Azriel and Lucien to the mix. Here are the most discussed possibilities of these couples:
Elriel - mates and together
Elriel - not mates and together
Elriel - not mates and not together
Elucien - mates and together
Elucien - mates and broken bond
Gwynriel - mates and together
In the case of gwynriel being mates and together that would mean elucien are mates and together and would make elriel not mates and broken up.
So in this case there would be 35 couples, 16 mates (45.71%), 11 not mates (31.43%) and 8 we don't know/it's implied (22.86%)
Out of 16 mates, 14 either died while being a couple or are currently together (87.5%) and 2 are broken up mates (12.5%).
Out of 11 not mates, 3 are humans (27.27%), 7 are broken up and therefore not endgame (63.64%) and 1 are currently together (9.09%)
Therefore that would make gwynriel part of the 87.5% of mates who are together and a cliché
Elucien would also be part of the 87.5% and a cliché
Elriel would be part of the 63.64% of not mates who are broken up and a cliché.
In the case of elriel being mates and together, that would make elucien mates who are not together and gwynriel would be nonexistent.
The only reason gwynriel is noted as nonexistent and not not mates and not together is because while we have got clearly stated evidence of a romance between elriel (the almost kiss in the bonus chapter), we haven't gotten confirmed evidence of a romance between gwynriel (there are theories and maybe subtext, but not clearly stated evidence).
So in this case there would be 34 couples, 16 are mates (47.06%), 10 aren't mates (29.41%) and 8 we don't know/it's implied (23.53%).
Of the 16 mates, 13 either died while being a couple or are still together (81.25%) and 3 are broken up (18.75%).
Elriel would be part of the 81.25% and a cliché.
Elucien would be part of the 18.75% and not a cliché.
However, elriel being mates would mean that Elain had two mating bonds with two different males, so although the outcome would make elriel cliché, the execution would be a first for sjm and not cliché.
In the case of elriel not being mates but together, that would make elucien mates who are not together and gwynriel would be nonexistent.
Of the 34 couples, 15 are mates (44.12%), 11 aren't mates (32.35%) and 8 we don't know/it's implied (23.53%).
Out of the 15 mates, 12 either died while being a couple or are still together (80%) and 3 are broken up (20%).
Out of the 11 not mates, 3 are humans (27.28%), 6 are broken up (54.55%) and 2 (18.19%) are still together.
Elriel would be part of the 18.19% and not a cliché.
Elucien would be part of the 20% and not a cliché.
In conclusion, the only way elriel could be cliché would be if they were not mates and didn't end up together and if they were mates who ended up together. Even in the last case, they wouldn't be too cliché because it would mean Elain had two mating bonds, which we have yet to see in any sjm book.
The endgame for both gwynriel and elucien would make them cliché, while the breaking of the mating bond would make elucien not cliché and, let's be honest, there's not any other possibility of gwynriel being endgame apart from them being mates.
You can dislike whatever ship you want, but saying that elriel is a cliché would be an objective lie, when they are the most unique couple written by sjm to date.

SJM talking about Elain
“I love that Elain is kind of like the quiet dreamer. She’s got a different sort of strength than Nesta and Feyre. And in my re read of the series recently like I actually really love this moment when Feyre goes back to the cottage in book one and she has this moment where she thinks — she looked at — Feyre looked at the cottage with nothing but like contempt and hatred, but Elain looked at it with hope and like a shelter and Feyre realizes like, which one of them was the stronger one during those years. That moment really — I got all choked up when I read that moment I was like “Oh yes, hope is stronger than hate.””
Feyre about Elain
“Elain had always been gentle and sweet—and I had considered it a different sort of strength. A better strength. To look at the hardness of the world and choose, over and over, to love, to be kind. She had always been so full of light.”
Velaris is also known as “the Court of Dreams”.
“The Court of Dreams. The people who knew that there was a price, and one worth paying, for that dream. The bastard- born warriors, the Illyrian half breed, the monster trapped in a beautiful body, the dreamer born into a court of nightmares...And the huntress with an artist’s soul.”
Also another reminder: The Night Court and Elain both smell like jasmine.
