Hi Laura! Congratulations on your Tumblr anniversary! That's very exciting! 🥰 I am super thrilled about your underappreciated blorbo event, so how about some Henry thoughts? I feel like he's really underrated (even by me 😅 who rarely talks about him despite him being one of my favorite characters in the series. Sorry Henry 🙈). (I always wondered if he and Vanessa might become good friends after connecting on both having been essentially locked up and isolated from other people for so long. They have a bit of a "[Former] Caged Birds Club" in my mind, and Henry kind of looked out for her from afar from the time she first arrived at the hideout and made sure she always had big windows in her rooms (and was close to the exit) since he really sympathized with her backstory).

I'm super happy to have you around for the event and I'm glad to hear that you like it! ^^ Henry is definitely on the underrated spectrum (I mean, it's because of him that the BB base is a transformer), so I'd gladly oblige ^^

🍂What is their strength as a person?

Henry's strength as a person I think stems from his patience. I mean, he has to be patient, because he's only able to speak at half the pace most people are, and it must be frustrating to him. So, he's had to learn to be patient with himself. And I think that since he has only had enough mana to barely stay alive for a good while, he also needed to adapt and learn quickly when it came to using his magic for more than a few adjustments here and there to the base.

He's giving himself time to learn, and taking it step by step. Which is an important quality and skill to have in a person. And I think it's that quality in him that also translates onto how he converses with others, allowing them, too, to take their time, which emphasizes how empathetic he can be. Because having actually time to formulate your words for someone willing to listen is a rare thing.

He has a lot of good qualities to him, but I think that his patience has allowed a lot of them to come to the surface in the best of ways.

🌼What is their strength as a character?

I think that the mystery that surrounds Henry makes him a good character. We still don't, really, know the condition he has that causes him to drain mana from others. Is it a curse? A disease? Something else? I think I saw someone suggest that Henry could be half giant similarly as Charmy is half dwarf. Which... would be interesting considering they take and supply mana, so they're in a way counterparts of each other.

But the fact that Henry is a mystery, allows them to have things like... a moving base, which is unlike any others, and would come as a surprise to most. He's an ace in the sleeve of the BBs.

🌻What is their weakness as a person?

Perhaps inability to relate to others? We haven't seen him open up to a lot of the characters, but I imagine that he'd find it difficult to relate to others due to being bedridden for most of his life and secluded from the world. He is patient and empathetic, but he probably needs to learn to understand the way it is for people who can come and go as they please, before doing more than just listening, quite simply because it can be very difficult for him to say anything.

As the series progresses, he gets around more and befriends the Bulls better, thus making him closer to them and able to find things to relate on, but I think it's very much a learning journey for Henry too.

🤝Their friendships? Any thoughts on those?

Asta is probably his very first human friend (I say "human" because animals probably visited him before that), so he'd be the obvious choice to talk about when it comes to Henry and his friendships. And, in a way, since Asta didn't have magic and Henry didn't have magic to spare, due to... well, using it to live, I think they have a footing to connect on that aspect as well, though I don't think they talked about it when Asta came to chat in the early days when he was the only one to really connect with Henry due to being the only one really able to do so.

But aside of Asta, I think that Vanessa and Secre could both fall into the "caged person" thematic, since Secre was trapped as Nero for 500 years and Nessa was trapped in a literal cage, while Henry was... I suppose both, trapped in his own body that drains mana from those around him, and in his home due to said condition. But I could see Henry creating kinds of "nests" for both Nessa and Secre so that they'd have a comfy place to be. I don't mean a literal nest, but just a cozy nook for them to exist, because sometimes life is overwhelming, and even on a subconscious level I think he was able to relate to them. And though Nessa and Secre weren't able to come and chat with Henry as much, at least they felt cared for by their new home at the BB hideout.

TC Blorbo Tournament Sweet Sixteen Recap

So I had half of this post written up and then I hit one too many ctrl-z's and Tumblr decided to erase it. I'm bitter because it was quite witty if I do say so myself. Anyhow, let's try this again.

Results! Our group of sixteen has been whittled down to eight.

In the flyby region, Maverick rolled to victory once again to the tune of 82% of the vote. He'll face--get this--Jack Reacher.

Yes, Jack Reacher of homeless, only owns one shirt fame eeked out victory over Stacee Jaxx of the assless chaps and Tom Cruise singing voice. I'm as surprised as you are. Guess he gets good mileage out of that white shirt.

I may be surprised by the outcome of the vote, but I'm not surprised by drama in the flyby region. Mav my Most Dramatic Boy deserves a worthy opponent.

To my personal relief, Danny Kaffee managed to defeat Jerry Maguire in the bat region. (FWIW I considered calling this the baseball bat region but it sounded funnier if it was just a singular bat. An animal? A baseball bat? nobody knows!) I'm relieved because I'm pretty sure @awkwxrdapple was going to personally track me down if Danny lost to Jerry, and I've already heard plenty from @tvheit about Vincent Collateral's seeding. Did not need to go through that again. Whew. (I'm joking, I love you all and I love how invested you are in these silly polls. I love it so much.)

Danny Kaffee will now face Barry Seal, a much tougher opponent who squeaked by Ray Ferrier in a surprisingly close Sweet Sixteen matchup. Well, I say he's tougher but to be honest I like Jerry way more than Barry. Perhaps it's fair to say that Barry Seal has the weight of the milf-community behind him where Jerry did not. (Looking at you, @malewifebillcage. I love you!!!!) Time will tell who emerges the bat region champion.

On the other side of the bracket, Ethan Hunt earned yet another blowout victory but now faces the winner of the Tom Cruise Baddie poll, Lestat. Personally, I'm kinda hoping Ethan manages not to get bitten. Maybe he can hop on a plane and rope climb his way to victory? No matter the outcome, we shall crown a King of Farm Boy Land (that's Wisconsin, for those not in the know) this coming week.

Oh, and last but not least, we have Jack Harper vs Bill Cage in the battle of the TC sci-fi film disney princesses. Or maybe I should say the TC sci-fi film disney princesses from the past fifteen years? We love Steven Spielberg in this house and I do not want to offend him. (I still haven't seen Minority Report. Don't tell him.)

Top five tropes that should be more popular

well. well!! okay i'm going to try to think about different tropes than my favorite tropes here to make it spicy and interesting!

5. Magic and I mean the Diana Wynne Jones kind. You keep most of the real world the same, but add just a little bit of magic in a very fun and light way. The backstage is rocked when Brian Cage is revealed to be part troll, which makes jim even more determined never to let anyone find out that he's part fae, even though it really does not give him any advantages, and in fact his only real inheritance is that he can't lie. which is fine, because he gets around it pretty well by just not saying stuff when he doesn't want to, but then there's talk of doing testing for Creatures, and well. he tells dustin.

4. daemons from HDM aus. dustin's daemon can be walter, easy. maybe jim's is somewhat small and he usually keeps her in his jacket pocket. dustin's only met her a few times even though they've lived together for a few years, and she's not that interested in socializing with walter. dustin doesn't mind so much, because that's just how jim is about some things. and then one day during a match, jim gets hurt, and his daemon leaps into dustin's arms in the next blink and hides herself in his chest.

3. Ensemble fic. I miss the art of being able to contain the full cast of characters in any one story. I love if you're reading a ship fic but you see fun cameos from other wrestlers wandering in and out of the plotline. it makes the backstage feel vibrant and so real. and maintaining the ensemble is ESPECIALLY good in an AU. if someone did a HangKenny Good Omens au, I would feel such joy in my heart if you managed to correctly sort the other wrestlers into various roles and let them contribute to the plot. I feel like i'm not being super clear about the joy of this because my brain is absolutely done broke, but it was something people used to do in bandom and it was SO fun. If you did a Mean Girls AU, it was SO fun to see how the author filled in all the OTHER background roles. tumblr user baking_soda do YOU know what I mean? do they be doing that in F1 very much? are people writing Mean Girl aus and taking the time to figure out who Kevin is? that's fun to me.

2. your self from another timeline comes to visit. this is SO hard and it's SO sexy to imagine. i'm literally obsessed with it all the time. i love thinking about like, baby!dustin at like what, 19? coming forward in time to 2022 and being like "we're FAMOUS? we're on TV?" and dustin's like "for an incredibly generous interpretation of famous and also not on tv that much." and all the things dustin hates about himself in life he can't help but hate to see in baby!dustin so he's not like...nice....to him. and he especially hates how obvious baby!dustin is about his giant crush on jim. jim just laughs and says "you're such a jerk. he's a good kid..."

1.. this is cheating because i'm using it as #1 in both "favorite" tropes and "need more of" but it's my life MOM!!! it's body betrayal!!!!! body betrayal!!!!!!! unfortunately it's my absolute kryptonite to think about ESPECIALLY ATHLETES or anyone who has a close relationship with their body and takes pride in its reflexes and strength being bowled over by a surprise. i mean, me, if i sprouted a lizard tail tomorrow, i'd be like "oh sure, this might as well happen" but i LOVE when shit happens to people who are so sure they know their body inside and out. and when you combine it with the self loathing of someone who is so sure that the thing their body is doing will cause them to be rejected forever??? that's the good stuff. please note, if you say to me: wow lea, it's interesting that you're so emotionally effected by someone discovering a hidden and horrible secret in your blorbo and your blorbo gets love and acceptance in spite of the horrible secret self. have you considered taking that to therapy? i say to you: go to superhell.

Do you get lonely?

Sometimes…i’m never truly alone in the studio, but that doesn’t mean I’m not lonely…I’m not able to really speak to the studio, so it’s all one sided conversation that makes me feel like im just talking to myself… the gifts are nice and I’m not complaining about it! Im honestly thankful for the effort! It’s just… sometimes I feel more like a pet who “needs proper enrichment” for its cage… I think the studio missed having people walking it’s halls… hearing the sounds of them talking and laughing in the recording room… everything it lost when it was forgotten… I think that’s why it tried to appear more welcoming and lived-in during my new life working here… but it was never able to fully hide the signs of abandonment and neglect… it’s trying so hard to convince me to stay, as if I could leave at any moment… not that I could if I wanted to… sure it’s safe. But it’s also possessive… even if I could go back, or leave somehow…I don’t think the studio would let me…

I don’t know… it’s an intrusive thought that comes and goes… I’ll likely forget about it later anyways… There is something that helps though. I like to create characters and write their stories! I enjoy figuring out the details. I flesh out their backstories, personalities, designs, fears, desires, until they sounded as real as you or me. I love it when a bunch of impulsive details that felt right come together to fit way better than expected! Instant serotonin. After this is done, I put the characters through various experiences in and interactions! Either for fun or just curiosity about how they might react. The characters tend to change a bit now and again during this time, but that’s to be expected when you’re working out their morals and limits… Inserting myself into stories never felt right, so I make my characters characters experience them instead. I watch them grow, make friends, go through various trauma, trauma bond, start a found family, have fluffy moments, etc… I adore them. I don’t care if that sounds embarrassing or “cringe”. I love my blorbos, as I heard them called, and I’d honestly like to see you cope with supernatural solitude any better than I have without going mad! thank you for your question caller, and thanks for tuning in…

okay fandom of 2 shit going on so here’s my many thoughts about nate from meddling kids (by edgar cantero) it WILL contain spoilers but if i don’t blast this i’ll die.  okay.  listen.

Nate is literally the personification of too little too late, he admits to fucking with the necronomicon several years after the fact, trades being indirectly responsible for peters death for being indirectly responsible for peters death (INCREDIBLY funny), and spends most of the book looking at walls and trying to hold onto his sanity with two hands and half a bottle of probably stolen prescription meds.  He checked his own ass into the psychiatric hospital and it’s genuinely narratively unclear if he’s definitely off his shit or if some method of magic means peter is for real there and not just a part of his subconscious making him responsible for everything. While Andy and Kerrie are having lesbian drama and shaking in fear while metaphors about hair float about, he’s looking at the book and trying to fit into the ONE thing he feels like he’s good at- being the weird guy, the cult one, the one who knows weird shit.  Not smart like Kerrie- he actively shrugs off his own research into historical traces of the Wheezers- not a leader like Peter- he refuses to make a decision MULTIPLE times within the mines- and not strong like Andy- He runs as fast as he can to escape the island before he comes to.

He is SOOOO shit-scared of having any more depth than he needs to, too scared to be one ounce more than exactly what he thinks others need, than what he thinks makes sense for a crazy guy like him.  And peter- god, is he the manifestation of guilt, or the last trace of his soul left behind?  Peter gets SO few actions in the story that are most definitely his and not brain-peters.  And the part off screen- where was the moment of realization? how long did that shotgun stray before zombie peter put him in the damn closet?  And the fucking- stomp.  Stomp.  A guillotine to the closest thing to a reanimated bestie possible, a decision he made, that he had to make, that andy TRUSTED him to make.  Im shaking the bars of my cage, holy shit.

And of course nate is my blorbo- i love my blorbos hallucinating smarmy assholes (squip, anyone?).  But let’s not overlook andy, and her steadfast trust, how she stepped up as leader more and more as time went on, navigating situations and directing both nate and kerrie so their respective brain power could be used without hurting them in the pursuit of knowledge.  Let’s not overlook nate- throwing dynamite- kerrie- yelling about co2- tim- probably fuckin barking idk.

its been like 2 hours. but anyways can you elaborate on your blorbo story

of course of course let me explain all 4 seasons in excruciating detail (under the readmore)

SEASON 1!!!! (the first season)

season 1 of the expeditions of author (which i will refer to as TEoA from now on) is, of course, the first season. there might be a few easter eggs here & there but for the most part nothing TOO lore-important happens in this season. we are here establishing main characters & having author get used to their new powers.

in the other post i completely forgot to mention the bunga gems. the bunga gems are these 8 gems that are like really powerful & shit. even just 1 of the bunga gems is enough to give you like superhuman powers. despite being a powerful overlord, h does need all 8 bunga gems in order to destroy humanity. & author needs all 8 bunga gems to defeat h. but there are 4 seasons so lets not worry too much about the bunga gems yet.

lets go back to author's friends. they have a best friend & her name is kittul raican (she/they/fae). other friends in their friend group include lenny keone (he/ze), jumpy campos (he/xe), blast tuhinga (he/it/dy), & rowan fisher (he/they/it/zae). allen gets incorporated into this friend group throughout the first season. jumpy has a younger brother, geist campos (he/they) who wears an eyepatch because of this disease called pink eye 2 electric boogaloo (that is not what its actually called. i dont have a name yet.)

author is scared of what their friends will think about their powers, so for the entire 1st season they are desperately trying to hide their new prophecy hero powers from their friends & their parents, except they dont have a hero disguise until like half way into the season so some of their friends may have a little suspicion on what's going on.

do you remember the bunga gems? zodiac gets a bunga gem! crazy. im sure this fact will not be plot relevant at all.

i can imagine the season 1 finale perfectly in my brain. h is causing more havoc than usual in pinewood. author puts on their cool hero disguise & sneaks out to stop him but h has a bunga gem so author gets their ass kicked & wa-pow now everyone in pinewood knows theyre a fucking. hero of the prophecy or whatever.

in one of the earlier episodes it is mentioned that h doesnt like it when people slice his horns off. they take too long to re-grow or whatever. so the heros sword is on the ground & h is about to obliterate author when guess who? its allen! they show up & grab the heros sword & something something "i'll aim for the horn" & then something something they kick h's ass together. h retreats for now but he accidentally leaves his bunga gem behind so now author has a bunga gem! sweet! also all of this was broadcasted on live television.

remember when i said zodiac had a bunga gem? turns out h was the one who gave him this bunga gem & zodiac was promised unlimited power if he found all 8 of them. so at the end of the season 1 finale zodiac is in the castle dungeon (he is a prince remmeber this.) & hes talking to some beast in a cage (this "beast" is spinner the ex-court jester & she uses any pronouns) & spinner knows who h is kinda?? which is kinda why he's tthe ex-court jester now but i digress. so spinner tells zodiac that the one bunga gem he has can be used to help him locate the other bunga gems. & zodiac does an evil grin or some shit & then the episode fades out. & that's season 1!

SEASON 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >:D

its season 2 now! author has literallly nothing to hide due to their hero identity being broadcasted on live television so now everyone knows what they are (insert homophobic dog here). this season focuses more on the bunga gems for the most part. figuring out how they work & finding them etc etc yknow. by episode 18 (each season will have 20 episodes, the season finales being split up into 2 parts) author & zodiac both have 4 bunga gems each. so in episode 18 author & rosalina think that zodiac's been acting a little... mm.. suspicious lately. so they sneak to the castle & SURPRISE! zodiac has HORNS & a TAIL that look suspiciously like h's. TURNS OUT THAT ZODIAC IS H'S SON. nobody EVER suspected this. actually it will probably be hinted at throughout the season but. you probably didnt expect this so. anyway so zodiac notices author & rosalina & he has a cool villain song that he sings & then author & rosalina get stuck in the castle dungeon.

season 2's finale is basically a revolution. the people of pinewood are sick of having a monarchy. what fucking town has a monarchy in 2021. so they revolt! unfortunately, author isnt there to help considering they are stuck in the dungeon, & even more unfortunately, zodiac has almost god-like powers. author is in the dungeon & you remember spinner right? theyre in the dungeon? there is also another person in the dungeon & her name is mika (she/her)! this will probably be hinted at during the season but mika used to be a investigator & she thought the queen was a little sus so she was investigating her & so the queen, like any suspicious person would, threw mika into the dungeon.

author still has their phone though! but its at like 1 percent battery so they just like send a group text to their friends that just says "HELP. IN CASTLE DUNGEON" & it sends & then the phone dies so like. hopefully their friends receive that text.

long story short author, rosalina, mika, & spinner end up getting freed from the dungeon & then author & zodiac have a cool fight & because of main character powers, author wins. they have a sword up to zodiac's chest & theyre about to kill him but he teleports away at the last second & theyre just like "oh. hes gone.". also the queen dies or something but i cant decide if i want her death to be on-screen or not. & that's season 2!

Dear fanfic writers of the world:

Please. I’m begging you. If your blorbos are supposed to be dancing together, PLEASE stop writing that the leading partner put their hand on the other’s waist.

When dancing, the following partner (traditionally the lady) puts their left hand on the leading partner (traditionally the dude)’s upper arm, usually just below the deltoid. Just barely off the shoulder. The leader puts their right hand IMMEDIATELY UNDERNEATH THE LEFT ARM OF THEIR PARTNER, ON THE SHOULDER BLADE OR UPPER RIBS.

Your waist is the bendy space between your rib cage and your pelvis. Bend to one side; see the crease where your skin kind of pinches together? That’s your waist. If the dude puts their hand that low, it absolutely hamstrings your ability to lead properly and do things like spins or lifts or anything like that, AND it can cause SERIOUSLY PAINFUL HIP CRAMPS. Like, socket pain, low back pain, muscle aches in your thigh, etc. It hurts so bad.

Also, if your blorbos are dancing somewhere with other people, like a fancy party or something, or anytime they want to be able to do something other than list off “hey, let’s go in this direction” or “let’s do this move next” or anything, or if they aren’t familiar with their partner and the dance doesn’t have exact choreographed steps that everyone at the party knows, basically any time one person is ACTUALLY leading and the other is expected to follow whatever they do, hips are going to be touching.

This doesn’t apply AS much to Latin dances (cha-cha, rumba, salsa, etc.), but for something like a waltz, foxtrot, Viennese waltz, etc., the ones that have the big elegant ball gowns and the fancy tuxedos and such, the way one partner leads is A) with their arms in proper position, and B) with their hips touching their partner’s. It’s staggered, crotch-to-thigh, so that if the dude steps forward with his right leg, he’s stepping between the girl’s legs, and if she steps forward with her right, it’s the same. This way you know exactly what the other person is doing at any given moment, and you’re less likely to trip over each other’s feet.

Also, hips and face are basically magnetic. Hips are N/S, so they stay stuck together. Faces are N/N or S/S, and are repelled from each other. That’s where the elegant arching of the back comes from. I’m sure you don’t need my help figuring out the implications for your slow burn enemies-to-lovers unresolved sexual tension fic there.

Please. I’m dying here. Just, put the hands in the right spot. That’s the main thing. It’s all I’m asking.

blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most) -- Haibara <3. I still think her existence is maybe one of the best things to happen to detective conan. Her introduction literally gave me chills. She really balances out the narrative in a delightful way, that she can be equals with conan without a towering and idiotic sense of arrogance lol. I feel like she's one of the few characters who got character development that wasn't really centered around romance, so that might also be why. also she is transfem, but simultaneously she is also transmasc, hope this helps

scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped) -- LOL probably Shinichi/Conan??? you HAVE to admit that Conan is super super shaped. it's so funny. he really is just a first-grader. he is just a little guy !!!

scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave) -- Heiji. I'm honestly soooo sad that he got tossed to the wayside in the second half of the series :(((. I think this happens rarely enough that it counts as an obscure fave, although I know it's more of a ship than a character.

i’m very intrigued by this mention i found regarding the inchinnan parish and the use of mortsafes as temporary instead of permanent?? for context, mortsafes are the big iron cages you sometimes see built over graves. they’re not for vampires like every fuckin pixelated meme on facebook claims, they were to fend off bodysnatchers. here’s an example if you haven’t seen one:

and i always assumed that they were mostly permanent fixtures, but one source claims that the ones at inchinnan were used kinda... like dead houses. basically, the idea of both dead houses and these specific mortsafes is that you only need to guard the body until it’s decayed severally enough to be useless for anatomists. so instead of having a cage over your permanent grave, as is the case with a lot of mortsafes, these are ones you’d basically rent. you would open the cage, bury the coffin, lock the cage again, and let the body decay there for six weeks before taking the coffin out again and reburying it in the permanent resting place. 

i know i’m rambling into the void and this is probably interesting only to me but this is such a different use of mortsafes than what i’m used to seeing and i’m!! intrigued!! as to whether this was the case in some other scottish sites as well!!
