Album #99: “I’m A Lonesome Fugitive” by Merle Haggard & the Strangers (1967)
a pretty decent country record.
the opening track on here, the title track, was not written by merle himself, though many think that he did as he apparently served a couple years in san quentin.

From the book “ 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die”, published in 2005 by the by Universe Publishing. Part of the 1001 Before You Die series, it compiles writings and information on albums chosen by a panel of music critics to be the most important, influential, and best in popular music between the 1950s and the 2010s. • • WOW! That’s some feat for Alice In Chains to be included with their album Dirt. As fellow “Chainers” we all think that’s a given. But if you look at the bigger picture and the massive amount of music that’s been released from the 1950’s to 2010’s it’s absolutely mind boggling. What an honor for the band and for us the fans! • • • • • • —————————————————— #nehistripesseattle #LSMS #LSMSAiC #aliceinchains #laynestaley #chainer4life #mikestarrforever #1990s #seankinney #jerrycantrell #the1loveaic #grungeera #dirtalbum #mindfuck #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie https://www.instagram.com/p/CqJ7GwFL4T3/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Frank Sinatra – Too Marvelous for Words
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

Japan - Quiet Life "JAPAN releases the LP "Quiet Life" on Hansa Records in England. Tracks on the new album are "Fall In Love With Me," "Desperate," "In-Vogue," "Halloween," "Alien," "The Other Side Of Life," and the title track "Quiet Life." There is also a cover of the Velvet Underground song "All Tomorrow's Parties." The LP marks the change in Japan as a guitar-glam band, to more of an electronic funk inspired group. Reviewing the Lp, Sounds magazine said, "You never know quite what to expect with Japan. In a seemingly ceaseless quest for success, their short career has to date spanned at least four markedly different musical styles. And yet somehow, despite the often calculated, contrived nature of these moves, the band have never become victims of the changes..... While I'm unsure that Japan will ever become a 'major act' (this despite the 'big in '80' predictions currently being bandied about) 'Quiet Life' is already an album of the year. And this with the current 12 months barely four days old. Believe it." - Post-Punk Diary, George Gimarc . #Japan #QuietLife #OnThisDay #MusicHistory #PostPunk #OnThisDay #OnThisDayInMusicHistory #PostPunkHistory #Glam #GlamRock #January4 #January41980 #1980 #80s #80sMusic #1001Albums #1001AlbumsYouMustHearBeforeYouDie #440 #PostPunkDiary #PostPunkChronicles #NewRomantic #DavidSylvian #RichardBarbieri #RobDean #MickKarn #StevenJansen #SimonBell #AllTomorrowsParties #MusicJournalism #JSimpson https://www.instagram.com/p/CJpmhepIRr2/?igshid=1pxbi7ngfzlif

Album #96: “Surrealistic Pillow” by Jefferson Airplane (1967)
this record was okay.
i don’t know if it’s because i thought this record came out later (always thought it was an early 70′s record) that it felt a little ahead of it’s time.
the record was okay, but all the songs where Grace Slick is the lead vocalist absolutely whip ass. this was her first record with the band, which was their second overall. they should have written more songs for her to sing.

Elvis Presley – Money Honey
Tumblr media

Album #85 “Headquarters” by the Monkees
this is what i’m going to refer to as the Monkees “breakthrough” record, not insofar as it is the album that broke them into the mainstream (their previous two records had both reached no.1 on the billboard charts), more in the sense that this is the first record where the Monkees themselves finally had creative freedom over the record.
the Monkees had been frustrated that, being hired to play the roles of a band on television, their previous albums were recorded by sessions musicians which they were only asked to sing over. as such, one can’t help but imagine the relief they must have felt to finally be given then opportunity to do something themselves.
i liked this record. you could tell that this is the sound of musicians finally set free, though there isn’t anything that makes this record really stand out from the crowd. apparently it was knocked out of the no. 1 spot by the Beatles’ Sgt. Peppers, and like... yeah. that record kinda eats this one’s lunch.

Duke Ellington - Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue
Tumblr media
(link za kompoziciju) No. 6/1001.
