Tinsel & Tine #MiniMovieReview BURDEN Directed by #AndrewHeckler, actor turned director of mostly TV series – takes on a narrative feature based on a newspaper article he read in the early 90’s about a former KKK member who sells a White Supremacist Museum to a Black Baptist Church. [Truncated]   I’ve read some reviews that have not been kind to Hedlund’s performance, but I think he’s got the lumbering walk, man of few words talk, and bullying mannerisms of a red neck down perfectly. He works as a repo man for stuff that doesn’t look like it’s worth repossessing. During a job he meets Judy (#AndreaRiseborough) the wife of a no account drunk. He immediately takes a shine to her and convinces his boss, Ku Klux Klan Leader and father figure, Tom Griffen (#TomWilkinson) to let her keep her TV set, which isn’t important to her, but rather to her 8 year-old son, who’s big on watching NASCAR racing.   Things start to heat up between Mike and Andrea, with Mike finding ways to get the approval of her son. It would be a sweet, white trash romance, if it weren’t for the “small” matter of Mike being a card carrying member of the Ku Klux Klan and instrumental in the opening of the town’s KKK museum; which is being peacefully protested against by Reverend David Kennedy (#ForestWhitaker) and his congregation.   Judy is more or less a let everyone do their own thing kinda person, so at first she doesn’t object to Mike’s “extra-curricular activities”. But when her son and his black friend are endangered, she demands he make a choice between her and the Klan.   Ultimately the movie is about faith, redemption, forgiveness and loving thy enemies, how we get there… is just okay. In a sea of stories about America’s ongoing battle of racism, stemming from certain white fears of losing complete control over everything – it’s a competent entry. Sinh viên ĐH Duy Tân tiếp tục đoạt giải Nhất và Nhì cuộc thi Microsoft Imagine Cup 2017

Sau lần đầu đoạt giải Nhất cuộc thi quốc gia Microsoft Imagine Cup 2016, sinh viên Đại học (ĐH) Duy Tân tiếp tục giành chiến thắng cao nhất với giải Nhất và Nhì trong cuộc thi quốc gia Microsoft Imagine Cup 2017. Đội tuyển EMDTDevDTU với dự án SmartChick đã giành giải Nhất và trở thành đại diện của Việt Nam tham dự vòng chung kết Imagine Cup châu Á - Thái Bình Dương tại Manila (Philippines) vào ngày 23.4.2017 sắp tới.

Microsoft Imagine Cup là cuộc thi do Tập đoàn Microsoft tổ chức thường niên trong suốt 15 năm qua nhằm khơi dậy những ý tưởng sáng tạo, nghiên cứu, phát triển và ứng dụng vào thực tế các sản phẩm công nghệ tiềm năng của hàng triệu bạn trẻ đam mê lập trình trên toàn thế giới. Năm 2017, tại Việt Nam, đã có 96 đội đăng ký dự thi trên toàn quốc với vòng chung kết diễn ra vào ngày 13.4 vừa qua là cuộc tranh tài gay cấn giữa 6 đội tuyển xuất sắc nhất nước và sinh viên ĐH Duy Tân một lần nữa đã thể hiện năng lực, trí tuệ và sức sáng tạo không mệt mỏi để thiết kế ra các sản phẩm công nghệ độc đáo và khả dụng nhất. Ban tổ chức đã trao giải Nhất cho dự án SmartChick của đội tuyển EMDTDevDTU, giải Nhì cho dự án Nano Farm của đội tuyển Happy Farm của sinh viên Duy Tân và giải Ba cho dự án Packn'Go của đội tuyển 101Studio.

Giải Nhất với SmartChick - dự án nuôi gà thông minh

Đội tuyển EMDTDevDTU giành giải Nhất toàn quốc đang ráo riết chuẩn bị để lên đường đến Philippines tham dự vòng chung kết Imagine Cup châu Á - Thái Bình Dương

Bắt nguồn từ mong muốn được tìm hiểu ngọn ngành cách thức chăn nuôi gà từ quy trình chăm sóc đến các mối quan tâm của người tiêu dùng trong tình hình vấn nạn thực phẩm mất an toàn ngày càng lớn, đội tuyển EDMTDevDTU gồm 3 thành viên: Nguyễn Trần Hoàng Linh (Khoa Công nghệ thông tin, ĐH Duy Tân), Lê Viết Triều (Khoa Đào tạo quốc tế, ĐH Duy Tân) và Nguyễn Huy Luật (Khoa Cơ khí, ĐH Bách khoa Đà Nẵng) đã tìm hiểu và triển khai dự án SmartChick. Đây là hệ thống chăn nuôi gà sử dụng hiệu quả ứng dụng IoT (Internet of Things) và Azure Machine Learning của Microsoft để đơn giản và tối ưu hóa quy trình nhân giống và chăm sóc gà. Với mỗi con chip nhỏ được gắn vào chân từng chú gà, người nuôi có thể theo dõi và thu thập các dữ liệu liên quan tới sức khỏe, tình trạng bệnh tật, sản lượng trứng... Công nghệ này giúp kiểm soát lượng thức ăn chăn nuôi, đảm bảo dinh dưỡng cho gà, đồng thời hình thành một hệ thống chuồng trại thông minh có thể tự động phun thuốc, làm sạch máng nước và thức ăn, giúp các chú gà có thể “chạy bộ” tại chỗ,... nhằm nâng cao chất lượng thịt, giảm dịch bệnh và tiết kiệm tối đa thời gian cùng nhân công chăm sóc.

Thắng giải tại cuộc thi, sinh viên Lê Viết Triều - Khoa Đào tạo quốc tế, ĐH Duy Tân cho biết: “Bên cạnh trồng trọt, chăn nuôi là một ngành quan trọng tại nhiều nước châu Á, trong đó có Việt Nam. Tuy nhiên, chất lượng sản phẩm và khâu vệ sinh an toàn thực phẩm chưa được đảm bảo nên người chăn nuôi luôn gặp nhiều khó khăn trong việc xuất khẩu gia cầm và tạo chỗ đứng trên thị trường quốc tế. Hy vọng dự án SmartChick của chúng em sẽ góp phần hỗ trợ người chăn nuôi gà trong việc nâng cao chất lượng dinh dưỡng trong thịt gà, tiết kiệm nhân công, kiểm soát dịch bệnh,... và giúp người tiêu dùng yên tâm hơn khi sử dụng sản phẩm được kiểm soát chặt chẽ nguồn gốc bởi những ứng dụng từ công nghệ tiên tiến của Microsoft”.

Giải Nhì với Nano Farm - dự án trồng rau thủy canh an toàn

Nano Farm là dự án xuất phát từ nhu cầu của khách hàng muốn trồng rau sạch dựa trên phương pháp thủy canh ngay trong khuôn viên gia đình mà không mất nhiều thời gian và không gian giữa lòng thành phố. Dự án Nano Farm được triển khai bởi 3 thành viên gồm: Phan Hồng Sang (Khoa Công nghệ thông tin, ĐH Duy Tân), Nguyễn Ngô Anh Quân (Khoa Điện - Điện tử, ĐH Duy Tân) và Lê Đình Ngọc (Khoa Cơ khí, ĐH Bách khoa Đà Nẵng).

Dựa trên nền tảng Universal Windows Platform để thiết kế sản phẩm có thể điều khiển được từ điện thoại thông minh hay qua máy tính cá nhân, Nano Farm còn đồng thời tích hợp những công nghệ tiên tiến khác của Microsoft và các thiết bị cảm biến nhằm thu thập và cung cấp các dữ liệu cần thiết cho người trồng rau. Với những chức năng chính như (1) giám sát rau trồng trong vườn 24/7, (2) tự động cung cấp chất dinh dưỡng và tưới nước cho cây, (3) cảnh báo khi cây trồng ở tình trạng báo động, (4) báo tín hiệu khi cây trồng có thể thu hoạch,... Nano Farm giúp khách hàng có thể chủ động giám sát và kiểm soát vườn rau tại nhà của mình từ bất cứ nơi đâu có kết nối Internet. Ngoài ra, Nano Farm còn tạo 1 trang mạng xã hội để người dùng có thể chia sẻ thành quả của mình và liên kết với những cá nhân khác có cũng sở thích để sẻ chia kinh nghiệm trồng trọt.

Hy vọng với những ý tưởng sáng tạo và ứng dụng hiệu quả các công nghệ tiên tiến của Microsoft vào việc giải quyết “bài toán” cung cấp nguồn thực phẩm sạch cho người dân, những dự án mới của các sinh viên Duy Tân sẽ sớm được ứng dụng trong thực tế, mang đến nguồn thực phẩm tươi sạch và chất lượng, nâng cao sức khỏe cộng đồng.
