SPEAK UP!!! 🗣️
There's NO EXCUSE for violence against women.
NO means NO.
Wrong is wrong; crime is a crime.
#NoExcuse #WalangPalusot
@unwomenasia @unwomen
I am currently experiencing several types of abuses such as:
1.Economic Abuse – Acts that make or attempt to make a woman financially dependent upon her abuser.
Preventing the woman from engaging in any legitimate profession, occupation, business or activity except in cases wherein the abuser objects on valid, serious and moral grounds as defined in Article 73 of the Family Code;
2. Psychological Violence – Acts or omissions causing or likely to cause mental or emotional suffering of the victim
Causing mental or emotional anguish, public ridicule or humiliation to the woman or her child, e.g. repeated verbal and emotional abuse
Threatening or actually inflicting physical harm on oneself for the purpose of controlling the woman’s actions or decisions;
Causing substantial emotional or psychological distress to the woman.
Stalking or following the woman or her child in public or private places
3.Sexual Violence – the acts which are sexual in nature committed against a woman or her child. It includes, but is not limited to:
Causing or attempting to make the woman or her child to perform sexual acts (that do not constitute Rape) by use of force, threats, intimidation directed against the woman, her child, or her immediate family.

It's quite late in the day to make this post, but today, November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. It marks the beginning of 16 days of activism fighting for the end of gender-based violence worldwide.
Tumblr media
Violence happens among all genders all over the world, and there is so much work that needs to be done to secure human rights for other marginalized groups, but it has been reported that nearly half the world's population is female (this may be because of under-reporting by the LGBTQIA+ population of the world, but it is still important to consider).
I have spent much of my educational journey, both formally and informally, learning about all of the struggles of women and girls in countries all over the world who face all kinds of barriers to happy, healthy, and joyful lives and gender-based violence is among one of the most significant obstacles the women and girls of the world face.
It is almost guaranteed that at any point in time you will be in contact with multiple women and girls who are struggling with gender-based violence of some kind, either by strangers, or more often than that, in their own families
That is why I am taking up this cause. It is a part of my larger educational journey, and part of my responsibility as a human being in this world. As a human being who was born female, and who is female passing, despite being nonbinary, it is also a personal issue for me, because the world sees me as a female first. As a female who is no longer in a position where I am experiencing violence due to my gender, I also have a duty to fight for the rights of others around me who are.
Except to see something about this daily from now until December 10th, then I will still be making updates every now and then as it becomes necessary.

Motivation to attend the G7 Youth Summit in Hiroshima.
Through volunteering with the Youthfortpnw and Cameroon Youths and Students Forum for Peace (CAMYOSFOP), I do a lot of control arms and nuclear disarmament advocacy and sensitization working with the communication departments. I covered communication for an ICAN funded project aimed at tracing the path for Cameroon's participation at #MSP1 and fast-tracking the ratification of TPNW by Cameroon. Through which I engaged local newspapers, radio and television stations to intensify the advocacy and even produced a newsletter for this course while running social media campaigns. As a Communications Coordinator with the Youthfortpnw I oversee nuclear disarmament communication while running the social media. Late November, early December 2022, I used Youthfortpnw plateform to join UN Women's 16days of activism to end all forms of violence against women and girls. My interest being to illustrate how nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation, contribute to eliminating GBV and achieving a more secure, peaceful, and sustainable world for everyone. My academic expertise lies in International Cooperation for Development, Humanitarian action and Sustainable Development with a Bachelor's Science in Journalism. As an African from Cameroon working with Youth for TPNW, each time I introduce myself to someone and mention this aspect of my bio, many at times I receive lazy questions such as: “...but Africa is a Nuclear-weapon-free-zone so why even bother joining such debates?” My home Country Cameroon hasn't ratified this treaty, and recently I made a Facebook post celebrating the 2nd anniversary of entry into force of the TPNW while recalling that Cameroon still hasn’t participated yet. It is worthy of note that I deemed my post as a celebration of a milestone in nuclear disarmament - then I got this reaction which reads; " why should Cameroon ratify it? Does Cameroon have nuclear weapons or anything close to that? nuclear powers who are threatening to use weapons that on a daily basis – so why not write to them first? Cameroon should rather focus on fighting the nuclear power of corruption..."  Although Cameroon has not yet signed or ratified the TPNW, it has promoted universal adherence to the treaty, including by voting in favor of a UN General Assembly resolution in 2018 that called upon “all states that have not yet done so to sign, ratify, accept, approve, or accede to the treaty at the earliest possible date”.Furthermore, in 2016, Cameroon voted in the First Committee of the UN General Assembly to adopt a resolution that ultimately established the mandate for states to commence the historic negotiations in 2017 on “a legally binding instrument to prohibit nuclear weapons, leading towards their total elimination”. Prior to the adoption of the TPNW in 2017, nuclear weapons were the only weapons of mass destruction not subject to a comprehensive, globally applicable treaty prohibition. Cameroon supported calls on the UN General Assembly to fill this “legal gap”. It is against this backdrop that I am currently writing an informative article under the supervision of Dr. Becky Alexis-Martin I am currently writing an informative article to be published on the Youthfortpnw website entitle: African and the Nuclear debate: Challenges and Prospects. Here, I wll be examining what assessment can be made of African countries signatory to the Nuclear ban Treaty? From which I hypothesized: The near exponential development of crises in Africa that strain already limited attention and resources limits it giving attention to nuclear debate yet suffer humanitarian and environmental consequences of the use and existence of these weapons. I am aware that nuclear weapons pose a threat to our generation and our children. As the world’s population grows, the need to achieve social justice grows by the second! My goal is to blend my creativity and experience to grow in the disarmament and non-proliferation field. To use my academic knowledge, strengths and skills to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons and all forms of weaponries. If chosen to attend the G7 Youth Summit where I will be listening to survivors, learning from Experts while visiting the Hiroshima Peace Museum and networking with like minds, this will be an uplift to my career and advocacy journey.

The Global 16 Days Campaign is an international campaign to challenge violence against women and girls. The campaign runs every year from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day. The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. Why is activism 16 days orange? For its 16 Days of Activism Soroptimist International of Europe will use the colour orange to signalise our outrage at violence directed towards women and girls and our hope for a better future. Among other things, we will“orange” our website and post a unique SIE calendar with pertinent messages, facts and figures. What is the main purpose of 16 Days of Activism? Activism (or Advocacy) consists of efforts to promote, impede, direct or intervene in social, political, economic or environmental reform with the desire to make changes in society toward a perceived greater good. ☡WOMEN ARE A BLESSING TO OUR SOCIETY.
