Speaking of brand images and licensing it’s like, funny to me that if Prime is any indication, Sega are more protective of Shadow’s design and image than they are of Sonic’s. Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Rouge and Big all have quite major design changes per shatterverse because fuck it they’re basically side characters compared to Sonic and Shadow. But then Sonic himself is able to get a shoes and gloves change across the shatterverses and they even change the colour palette of said items such that Sonic’s overall colour scheme and some of his design trademarks are actually lost. But then Shadow? The plot’s written in such a way to where his design doesn’t need to change at all - he’s always gonna have the same gloves and shoes and shit. Just kinda neat.
Honestly even just writing that there I remembered that Shadow’s design in Boom and the movies is a lot closer to his game design than Sonic’s is. Really is just funny how protective they are of him specifically. Also makes it funnier when they do let him have more notable design changes - Lancelot in Black Knight or his costumes across some mobile games and even just all the outfits in Tokyo Olympics - we still get to see a fairly different Shadow sometimes, you know?

Acıymış, hâlâ dilimde o acı tadı bu kelimelerin. Alamadığım nefesler orada, dayanamadığım anılar ardımda. Yine kalkarsın altından
I saw that post that talked about how Velma is exactly the way it is because it was a deliberate attempt to farm controversy and thus attract attention to the show and everyone thinking “why did they think anyone would like this” is missing the forest for the trees or something, and it got me thinking huh man that’s exactly why Scooby isn’t in the show at all and why Shaggy’s redesign is so drastic and they don’t let them call him Shaggy either. Scooby and Shaggy are the most recognisable parts of the brand and the license and so Warner Bros or whichever rights holders didn’t want their image specifically compromised in that way.
had one lecture today morning about negotiating, and now spending the rest of my time doing my programming course and looking at the pretty snowfall :)
