Impulse thinks he might've started seeing things early this time.

It happens at least once a season at this rate, so it's not really a surprise on that side of things. And it's not as bad as the boogeyman clock-ticking he's heard twice now, so, he'll take it, just... it hasn't even been a full session yet?

He'd like to say it started when he ended up tag-teaming with Gem and Scott, but the truth is, that's not quite it. It started when he got his task and ended up in the cherry grove up there, and that little part of him he knows is basically a ghost detector went this task isn't so bad -- maybe people will actually trust me this time! There's never been a bad guy who built with cherrywood, right?

Really weird thing for a ghost detector sense to say. But then Gem and Scott caught up, and they sort of just fell into a natural alliance, and yeah -- Impulse looks at their location-in-progress and thinks we're gonna be the good guys this season, and for a split second feels this headache.

Then it's gone.

It happens again when Skizz visits, which is probably part of a task, but all Impulse knows is... he walks up to Skizz while he's saying "I've been that guy, that all I do is tell the truth, and I'm a loyal sword -- I think I might be the guy that just wants to lie to everybody and just be a jerk!"

Knee-jerk response: "Nah. Don't love that idea. Hate it."

Internal ghost-detector response: I mean, who says those things are mutually exclusive?

Impulse has to stop himself from whipping around fully at the voice, which sounds almost like Scott, except Scott isn't behind them right now -- just Jimmy, and past that the cherrywood trees. He thinks for a second there might be a flash of red among all those pink blossoms. He shrugs it off as Grian skulking around, even though he knows Grian doesn't have pink hair.

A few minutes later, he knows it definitely wasn't Scott, because the guy shows up to immediately point out a zombie villager appearing on the mountain -- there's a librarian, right there, aggroed more or less directly on him. They scramble to get it in a boat and cover its head. Some part of him suggests they should bury it underground, just in case. They only need one more.

Next sighting is a bit more difficult to ignore, mainly because Impulse knows when he's being made fun of, and when a goat smacks him while he's trying to wrangle it into a boat, he catches sight of someone with long blonde hair cackling like a maniac about it from the other side of the border wall, and before he can do anything more than think huh, how'd False get past the border? they're gone.

False is not in this season. He tries his best to put that behind him and inform his teammates of the real issue, which is:

"YOU SAID THAT GOATS WERE NOT A PROBLEM," Impulse yells, trying to pretend the panic is about the loss of a half heart. "I JUST GOT GOATED." He can see the campfire Gem and Scott set up over their shoulders. Someone wearing red is sitting at one of the seats. Impulse resolutely ignores the fact that he hasn't seen Grian at all so far.

That's it for the ghosts for a while, enough to lull him into a false sense of security. Maybe it is just Grian sneaking around. (Maybe the guy in a red poncho he sees in the distance in the badlands Scar has based just outside of is just Grian reliving his glory days.)

"By the way, this is Traitor Scar's!" Scar says brightly.

You think his partner's Grian again? a voice says wryly. It's not either of their voices. It's not the voice of anyone Impulse even knows, for that matter. It sounds like it came from over by the badlands.

"Trader Scar's," Impulse repeats, realizing he's misheard what Scar actually said.

Eh, the voice says. Like recognizes like.

favorite part of the pool party is when bdubs is being actively hunted by every single red on the entire server and impulse's first instinct when he notices something is wrong is to change the fucking music. the most important thing on his mind is to keep the party going i guess. and he inadvertently sets the mood for his soulmate’s murder using the disc his soulmate used in last life to set the mood for grian’s murder. full circle moments just follow this couple wherever they go i guess

UNLESS MY PREVIOUS POST HAS A MISTAKE (correct me if it does) then these are the NEW average placements! May seem slightly weird due to 2/5 seasons having 17 members while the rest had 14, causing things like Mumbo to be lowest despite always dying AFTER Jimmy and Jimmy’s placement being lowered despite finally breaking his curse. Double Life was NOT 7 as I just put whoever took the fatal damage one place below their soulmate, like 14th is Jimmy 13th is Tango. I listed how many of the 5 seasons they’ve participated in because that sort of thing can affect the averages due to having less data. Let’s see if newcomer Gem can keep up her great starting placement!

As for new changes due to Secret Life. Congrats to Scar! He’s now beating the first winner. Martyn didn’t do so well but he holds a good placement anyways. Most scores only changed by a decimal, and Scott’s didn’t change at all. Pearl has a huge lead over all the others. She’s far too powerful!!! Boat Boys are tied like true soulmates. BigB and Cleo often have really close scores and now they’re tied too. Poor Lizzie has dropped below Jimmy now.

Secret Life was awesome, here’s to more Life Series Seasons in the years to come!

SL!Joel: Well, for one thing, you killed me. And my wife.

SL!Scott: That wasn’t my fault. You hated me before that anyways right?

SL!Joel: Hmm… yeah, actually, I was pretty excited when I got that task to kill you. So, I think I hated you before Secret Life even began.

SL!Scott: Okay, I’ll ask the Joel before you then.

SL!Scott: Do you know why Joel hates me?

LimL!Joel: Well, for starters, you killed me.

SL!Scott: (Again…?) So was that the start of it then? Because my Joel hated me from the beginning.

LimL!Joel: No, I hated you the whole time too. I think you’re just really not likable, Scott.

SL!Scott: Hm, maybe something happened before Limited Life then…

SL!Scott: Hey, did something happen between me and you in your season to make you hate me forever or something?

DL!Joel: Ehh, not really. We didn’t really have any major issues… but I didn’t like you anyways.

SL!Scott: Dang, so this goes really deep… Maybe something in Last Life caused it!

SL!Scott: Do you, uh, know why all the future Joels don’t like me…?

LL!Joel: Well, to begin with, you KILLED me,

SL!Scott: (AGAIN? Wow, I’ve killed this guy a lot… but is that really the reason? He’s still ranting, I get a sense he hated me before I killed him…)

LL!Joel: ..you’re smelly, you’re ugly, you’re annoying, you-

SL!Scott: So are you saying you hated me since the beginning???

LL!Joel: Oh, yeah, I guess you could say that.

SL!Scott: (Something must’ve happened between us in 3rd Life that caused him to hate me forever, then… time to ask. Maybe I should’ve asked him first, we are neighbors.)

SL!Scott: Hey there, uh, Joel! Did something happen between you and, uh, Scott?

3L!Joel: …What do you mean.

SL!Scott: Well, it seems like every Joel after you hates every Scott. Do you?

3L!Joel: …

3L!Joel: …yes

SL!Scott: Okay… So what happened between you two? Why do you hate him so much?

3L!Joel: …It’s not… uh… Nothing happened between us, really. I think I just… inherently… disliked him.

SL!Scott: For real? Dang, all this questioning only to find out that whatever made Joel not like me was probably something that happened before the death games, meaning we’ll never know the reason… guess I just have to accept it as part of life… Or get him some therapy or something.

I think it's really interesting the different vibes the 3 different traffic/Life series have had so far. I remember after Last Life people talking about the world feeling darker than 3rd Life and it's very true. Like:

3rd Life felt so bright. The grass was bright green, there was a desert, small hills, small forests and pretty flowers. Everyone was so friendly to start out with. They believed that having a monopoly on dark oak of all things would bring them glory and victory. Dark oak is a nice building material, but mostly just that. They were still thinking like builders, like creators, and they were so horribly naive. The ending of 3rd Life was a blur. Once the killing started it didn't stop nor slow, and nobody was spared. And then it was done.

Last Life, by contrast, felt much much more dark. The grass was dark, the lands monotone, and if you mined to the surface in a random place on the map, chances are you would have no idea where you were from geography alone- it was the same mountains and spruce everywhere. The map was bigger and it was easier to get lost in. But the biggest change was the people. Everyone was always slightly on edge, slightly paranoid. The Boogeyman curse was always on the back of people's minds, but as was the inevitable permadeath they faced. All but 3 had gone through 3rd Life, and they knew what it was like to have your series just. End. Or have someone else end it in turn. I think at one point Joel or Impulse said something like "we learned in 3rd Life not to build pretty things, they just get destroyed here". In a final bit of contrast, the ending of Last Life was loooooong and drawn out. So much chasing people down, so much struggling to survive. And as the people died off, the world felt so vastly empty and lonely.

But the weird thing is? Double Life (so far) seems somewhere in the middle of the two. People don't seem paranoid, and yet they also don't seem as naive as they did in the beginning. They *know* the server is going to end in bloodshed and death. They just don't seem to care. Soulbounds attack their own soulbounds. They lead a Warden to the surface. They're not even red yet. The world partnered them together with one another, said to protect each other, but that just made them decide to do the opposite. Some chose someone different. Some decided to try to break up others. And they all have decided to just laugh, at this point, as chaos breaks out, as the world burns down, as they're subjected to the third death game they've gone through, because at this point, what else do you do?

I'm excited to see where this will go.
