Sorry, I've been so creatively stuck it just feels nice to accomplish something again.

This one was a challenge to myself to be more descriptive and explicit than I usually am. I also initially wanted to make it a silent piece, and then Whoops! all this dialogue fell in anyway...

They’d figured out a time, place, and rules of consent. Now they were here, making his fantasy come true at the end of everything.

Kaidan swallowed hard.

He could see Shepard watching him from the corner of her eye, appreciating his current state without breaking character. They were only in the Spectre locker room, where there’d be less chance of encountering others and plenty of warning if they did, but the danger of it still boiled under his fingers like the crinkle of his biotics before a fight.

She kept her manner casual and business-like, strutting in holding a shirt on a hanger with the tags still attached. She hooked it on one of the locker handles, and the scratch of metal on metal shrieked through the still room.

Shepard faced the mirror, parallel to where Kaidan sat, her back to him. They could see each other’s faces in its reflection.

She caught him unconsciously biting his lip through the glint in her eye.

He saw a fleeting thirst play over her profile, just for a moment before it was hidden again.

Character ask: The Youth Who Went Forth to Learn What Fear Is

Favorite thing about them: The sheer comedy of his nonchalant responses to terrifying things. Not only is he never afraid, he doesn't even treat the ghosts, goblins, and horrors he faces as anything out of the ordinary. That's the key to the story's humor.

Least favorite thing about them: The fact that he has seemingly no interest in working to help support his family unless it will teach him how to shudder. Of course laziness is a typical trait of rags-to-riches peasant heroes in fairy tales, but I'm glad the adaptations tend to downplay it and just make him quirky instead.

Also, while the ending is funny, with the princess finally making him shudder by drenching him in cold water filled with wriggling minnows, it's slightly disappointing that he never does learn to feel fear. It's no wonder that adaptations tend to change the ending so that something finally does scare him: whether touchingly (e.g. in The Storyteller's episode "Fearnot," when he finds his sweetheart dying of grief from his absence) or humorously (e.g. in Faerie Tale Theatre's "The Boy Who Left Home to Find Out About the Shivers," with his nervousness about getting married).

*I sometimes don't understand things that most people understand perfectly well. (again, autism)

*Sometimes my different way of thinking causes problems, but at other times it's actually helpful.

brOTP: None in the Grimms' tale. But in the loose adaptation from Jim Henson's The Storyteller, "Fearnot," there's Mr. McKay, the cunning tinker who leads him to the scary places, initially just for money, but who eventually becomes his true friend.

OTP: The princess, or in Storyteller adaptation, his village sweetheart Lidia.

nOTP: Any of the monsters he meets.

Random headcanon: He's autistic. Now of course this is an anachronistic viewpoint; he's just meant to be a lucky fool, like so many other peasant boys in fairy tales. But the fact that he specifically can't relate to an emotion which comes naturally to everyone else, that he doesn't pick up on the emotional vibes that other people do in key situations, and that he has a hyperfixation (learning to shudder) and no interest in practical things that don't relate to that fixation... well, all those things sound familiar.

Viewing him from this perspective, I feel better about the fact that he never learns to feel fear: he'll always be different and that's okay.

Unpopular opinion: I don't think I have one, because his story isn't particularly well known. The best I can think of is that it deserves to be retold more often, especially around Halloween: its blend of spookiness and comedy is underrated.

So i know everyone and their mother is gonna be making a good-bye post like this (if they haven’t already) but SHOOT IMA DO IT TOO (tagged “Long Post” for those on mobile who want to block/scroll by btw, and put under a cut that hopefully works!)

Unlike my fellow mod (hi jackie!) i didn't get into Adventure Time until... a bit later in the game (around 2013?) and only because of her... actually. It was the day after Simon & Marcy aired, and she’d shown me most of the episode right before class (def don't miss High School, but damn do i miss those mornings we had). This was quite awhile after I had stopped watching cartoons and lost a lot of faith in Cartoon Network (CN Real was a dark, dark time, if we’re all being honest) and I had felt a little lost in general about how to feel about cartoons. 

Because they’d brought me so much entertainment and joy and just COMFORT over the years. And my Favorite channel had been one that I could no longer stand to watch. 

Until that episode. That clip. That little glimmer of hope that a cartoon that I had unfairly judged for it’s “random XD” humor, not realizing that that humor was EXACTLY what i needed at the time. And that it didn't detract from those deeper themes that came along much later.

Fast forward over the next few weeks/months, and she’s telling me more and more about this show, the bits about the plot and her favorite characters. And inevitably, she mentions the hints/but-not-hints about Princess Bubblegum and Marceline. At the time, I was interested in them, but I don’t think I ever fully realized how important even just HEARING about a HINT of a relationship between two same-gender characters would be to me.

One thing led to another, and we joked about making a blog just dedicated to these two. We thought nothing much of it, that maybe we’d get a few followers, and have some fun along the way. (but I might be getting ahead of myself here) In 2014, we finally made this blog, and started reblogging/making fan-content centered around these two. We’re far from being the best bubbline blog on the block, but we’ve learned something every year with this.

2015 had been a big year for LGBT couples in cartoons, and it was certainly a turning point for myself, beginning to come to terms with my own sexuality and beginning to think abt my relationship with my gender identity. It’s still a bit of a process. And it’s terrifying, its thrilling. But I am so damn thankful to these cartoons that allow for a space for these ideas to be explored, and to provide excellent laughs and tears along the way.

And here we are now, 3/4 years later. And we all still have so much learning and growing to do.

But I never quite imagined this couple that I’ve laughed and cried over, getting it’s due and Acknowledgement On-Screen. And in such a wonderfully sweet and romantic way.

These characters help us realize things about ourselves, even when we’re not quite ready to accept those things. And it’s my hope, that with each show and generation after Adventure Time, that writers and artists are allowed to continue exploring these kinds of relationships and themes.

And that they help other kids find a safe and fun space to learn something about themselves and those same characters that they’re going to identify so well with.

Spider-Man: into the Spider-Verse - aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh the animation! the different styles! the story!!!!

Pacific Rim - DRIFT COMPATIBILITY IS SUCH A DAMN GOOD CONCEPT. i think about it a lot okay. just,,, giant robots fighting monsters based on the power of LOVE and what’s essentially soulmates, be it romantic platonic or familial. AND MULTIPLE SOULMATES. just!!!!!!!!! aaaaaaaahhhhh

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu - listen i had SO MANY FEELS OKAY. and once again THE ANIMATION/CGI/VISUAL EFFECTS! i am so attached to pokemon aaahhh the nostalgia value is granted a big part of this but not all and !!!!! heck!

Barbie: Princess and the Pauper - more nostalgia! truly this is a classic i love the story okay. AND THE SONGS. “im just like you, you’re just like me” aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh

Tangled - magic hair! eugene flynn rider! THE SONGS!!, and at last i see the liiiiiiights. another classic

Guardians of Ga’Hoole - listen i,,, remember rather little about this movie if i’m honestly, at least in regards to specifics like names and stuff. but OWLS, and its such pretty animation! also did I mention owls!!!??

Bonus: Holes - one of the best / my favorite book to movie adaptations okay? and and and just,,, the story within a story and the many generations later fulfilled deal and the name fun and aaaaaahhhhhhh “i can fix that” MY HEART

yes i did include 10 instead of 9 but heck my sister said “Holes” and I couldn���t not put it on the list okay. and i’d already commited to guardians of ga’hoole, but couldn’t get rid of tangled or any others before it. if i had to i’d probably poooossibly say arrival tbh but i am Obligated a;kljd

aaaaaahhhhhhh thank you @theyoungflexer for tagging me! i haven’t been tagged in one of these in ages so this is gonna be fun hehe also this game is gonna make me seem so old bc like.... i became a kpop fan in 2008/2010 sooooooo.... (i’m not even that old! i’m a 99 liner!!!!! but also i’m a jaded fan by now lol) (also i talk a lot but my stories are elaborate so i’m sorry in advance if you read this ahah)

1. What was your first kpop song?

technically my first “kpop” song was super junior m’s chinese version of “U” but if we’re talking first actual kpop song, it would be super junior’s sorry sorry LOL

2. How did you discover kpop?

NOW THIS IS A STORY. so back in 2008, i always watched chinese variety shows on tv bc they were the only channels we got at home. so one day i was watching a show and there was a group of cute boys who appeared and i was like !!! and then i followed them for a bit through these shows but then like i eventually forgot about them. but then in 2010, there were some reruns airing and i found out the group i liked back in 2008 was called super junior m. at the time, i didn’t realize the ‘m’ was important so i just searched up super junior on youtube. and then it was a downward spiral from there and a decade later, i’m still stuck here in this blackhole yep

3. Who was your first female (kpop) bias?

oh god.... do i even remember? i think it was probably victoria from f(x) or something. i honestly don’t remember bc i was anti-gg (LIKE A FOOL) back then so i didn’t really follow girl groups

4. Who was your first male (kpop) bias?

technically hangeng caught my attention first in SJM when i found out about them in 2008 but henry was my first official bias (it’s funny tho, i was literally watching some videos of henry today and telling my friend about how he’ll always hold a special place in my heart)

5. Who was your first favorite kpop group?

surprise surprise, it was super junior LOL 

6. Current favorite boy/girl band?

Monsta X, Seventeen, and U-Kiss hehe

7. Loved them since?

OK STORY TIME 

U-Kiss: i found them through a kpop mashup in like 2010 LMAO and i loved manmanhani and bingeul bingeul and shut up but all separately. i didn’t realize they were even by the same group until later LOL then i forget why but i started following them more closely some time between the 0330 and neverland eras and i’ve been a loyal kissme since hehe they’re my forever ults

Seventeen: i learned about svt during their first showcase in like 2013 ish?? i really liked their concept and since they were close in age to me i was like !!!!!! but their debut kept getting pushed back, and back then it was hard to get videos subbed so i stopped following them. then in like 2015 i heard they were FINALLY debuting and i got excited and got back into them after adore u came out so ye i’ve been following these boys ever since

Monsta X: my most recent ults hehe ^^ so i knew of monsta x bc my friend watched no.mercy (their survival show) but i got secondhand pissed with her bc she said the show was rigged and she wasn’t completely happy with the final lineup. but i also knew of them bc of svt and the boys are friends (WHICH IS GREAT I LOVE IDOL FRIENDSHIPS, ESPECIALLY MONTEEN’S) but i never followed them. then in 2016, after fighter came out, i somewhat got into them bc i liked fighter and i started casually following them and i even watched like episodes of monsta x ray and right now for them but still wasn’t super into them. but then in the fateful summer of 2018, i was super bored bc i had nothing to do and i heard mx ray 3 was coming out so i binge watched literally all of mx ray and mx ray 2, realized I LOVE THESE SEVEN BOYS and then i officially became a monbebe (and also regretted not getting into them sooner)

8. Favorite member of them?

U-Kiss: technically my ult is kevin but i’m starting to realize it’s jun (i will literally do ANYTHING for that boy)

Seventeen: joshua, mingyu, wonwoo (my bias trinity LOL)

Monsta X: CHANGKYUN >:( fun fact: i accidentally became a changkyun stan bc i made a joke that he was my bias and then it came true and i’ve never been the same since. i am on constant fight mode with this boy >:(

first off, definitely U-Kiss. these boys are so underrated it pains me. i would also like to recommend ONF (who i’m recently getting into and who are KILLING it in road to kingdom) and the others i’m recommending are a mix of semi-popular and nugu groups: Day6, The Rose, ONEUS, Dreamcatcher, Infinite, A.C.E, B.I.G, (and I know these two are “disbanded” bUT STILL) B.A.P and UNB. i also have way more recs but this list would go on forever so i’m cutting it short here.

11. YOUR ult?

i was talking with my friends and tho i love kevin and he will always keep a part of my heart, i’ve grown apart from him and now my ult is u-kiss’s jun bc i will do ANYTHING for him, like watch a survival show or watch every drama he’s starring in. that’s love right there for me

I KNOW!!!!!!!!! SOMNUS THAT...CRUEL DEMON! OH MY GOD I WAS SO, SO ANGRY AND UPSET WHEN I FIRST WATCHED IT AAAAAAHHHHHHH

There are a couple theories out there, I don’t know if you’ve already seen them Faarron buddy!! They talk about how maybe Somnus didn’t really do all of those things, and how maybe the anime is told as from Ardyn’s perspective, and because he sees Somnus as the bad guy, he remembers him like that.

But whether Somnus did it for malice or because he had no option, the facts are that he did what he did and it’s...so unforgivable!! I don’t want to tag him as a villain because, who knows, maybe Somnus WAS a good guy and we’re just seeing Ardyn’s perception of him, but still, first time watching the anime I was so angry and so upset at him!!

I think that the worst part of everything is when Somnus calls him out before he can reach the throne. It felt...like such a dirty move. He lied to his brother to MAKE him appear at the castle, and then, in front of EVERYONE, he tells him he’s unworthy and that he wasn’t Chosen. Even Aera looks surprised. Like, Somnus could have told him in private before the whole ceremony, he could have told him somewhere else. I understand maybe he needed to lie to make Ardyn come back to the castle, but to make it public?

It feels like Somnus wasn’t that interested in who was the rightful king; he just wanted to publicly humiliate Ardyn. Instead of telling him what was happening in private, he went and...did THAT? Holy fucking shit that’s cruel as hell!!!

As you say, it’s understandable that Ardyn did what he did. Mostly because Noctis looks so, so similar to Somnus. I don’t justify what Ardyn did because Noctis and his friends were all innocent and did nothing to him, and Ardyn ruined their lives and tortured them unfairly. But in his defense, Ardyn spent 2000 years in captivity, literally hooked to the walls, literally in the dark during all those two THOUSAND years. His mind is torn apart, it’s destroyed! Anybody would be destroyed after that.

So I think that partly it’s not that Ardyn is doing all that in full consciousness. He was a good and kind man, he wouldn’t do that to people that he knows are innocent. But his mind, twisted, and corrupted by the Scourge, wants to vent all that anger and pain, so he takes the closest thing he has of Somnus; a descendant that looks like him. And just...goes and tores him to pieces.

Long story short, while I don’t justify what Ardyn did and I think it’s horrible, it makes sense.

A summary: it’s all Somnus’ fault that....little bITCH.

I STILL always have that thought in the back of my head like ‘what if they don’t work out’ but they’re a proper little family now aren’t they???
