I haven't scanned the previous two issues (yet) because there's nothing too exciting in them. This time there's a lot of coverage of their Fan Club events and a huge interview with Yuki Kajiura and Yasunori Mori (Mr. M - Yuki's manager).

I've learned so much about Yuki reading through this interview. Most of it is probably common knowledge to longtime Yuki Kajiura fans but I've always focused on Kalafina so I am by no means an expert when it comes to Yuki herself. I initially started reading this to find out whether they would say something interesting about Kalafina but they didn't really. Of course there was a substantial section dedicated to them but it was mostly stuff we already knew. As for Yuki, I particularly liked the part where they talked about their very first years together, how she and Mori met and how Yuki ended up signing up with Space Craft in 1993. I had no idea she had such a rough start to her career. Apparently no one was interested in See-Saw's music in the 90s because it was too hard to sing. That's one of the main reasons Chiaki Ishikawa decided to pursue a solo-career instead. During the first few years, she was still living with her parents, taking on part-time jobs and living off of roughly a thousand dollars a month from her music, making much less than during her previous job as office worker. Yuki praises Mori and Space Craft for always having her back, for being straightforward with her, for never making any false promises, for having enormous patience with her, for never forcing her to take on work that didn't interest her, for ensuring she was able to gain experience and steadily build a solid catalog for herself instead of smothering her with countless job offers just to milk her. She didn't get a good gig until 1998 when she was offered to do the soundtrack for a Playstation series called "Yarudora - Double Cast". Her earlier jobs hadn't brought in a lot of money but since the game was distributed by Sony she got to sign a very lucrative royalty contract (according to Yuki, Sony are apparently very adamant about music creators beings paid fairly). From then onwards, she was free of all her debts. Her next big breakthrough was her collaboration with Yuuka on Gundam SEED. Yuki says that if "Akatsuki no Kuruma" hadn't been such a huge hit, she would never have been offered the Kara no Kyoukai project which ultimately resulted in the birth of Kalafina.

Those of you who have been around for a while know that I've always been somewhat of an advocate for Space Craft and this interview just enforces my opinion of them. They have done some shitty stuff of course but overall they are pretty decent as far as Japanese talent agencies are concerned. Yuki then goes on to talk about her strong desire to remain at Space Craft for however long it would take to repay all the kindness that she received. That might explain why she was with them for such a long time (she signed up with them back in 1993)

Regarding Kalafina, here are some of the highlights:

Sony was close to despair when they held their audition for Kalafina because none of the singers had the necessary skill-set to sing Yuki's music which is pretty much how Wakana and Keiko got their appointed positions (because they had already had experience working with her)

Maya was eventually deemed unfit for this type of work because she was still in high school at that time

Kalafina was Yuki's all-time favourite project because she got to do whatever she wanted. There were no taboos whatsoever. Even when it came to tie-ins and insert songs, she had a lot of creative freedom because most of the creators in charge trusted her judgement.

I wish they had at least mentioned Yuki's departure from Space Craft and the "disbandment" but I guess they didn't wanna go there...

Okay so let's start this with eh fact is that I haven't seen Witch from Mercury yet but I'm a classic gundam girl for real and my favorite gundam theme of all time is probably Last Impression...

Gundam Wing is like the first Gundam I ever watched and from there I discovered the original 0079 and I was hooked on the UC Century ever since! Amuro Forever is such a soft and sweet ending but also ike. sometimes I'm like "no pls cry Amuro you're just a boyyyy"

But also like if you want a jazzy bebop style Gundam I'd recommend Thunderbolt. I managed one episode a while ago and the first thing I noticed was the jazz in the background was very good indeed.

The Winner is the OP for Gundam 0083 which is not my favorite show but that top gun opening is such a banger I come back to it every time!!!

and then there's.... Turn A.... Yoko kanno is my favorite anime composer of all time fr and like... Turn A has Moon and I love it so much...

Thinking about two other beginnings I would give decent respect to, Gundam 00's openings are so good!!! And then there's Gundam SEED tho it's arguably not my favorite series either... but like... it also has TMR's stamp on it and you can't go wrong with TM Revolution fr.

Yesterday, I got up at midnight to see the Geminid meteor shower, I just went out to my balcony to at least somehow stay warm. Alas, I couldn’t see anything ... 🤣💦 I stayed there as long as I could but it got colder and colder so eventually I had to give up. I thought that the area around my house would be quite dark at night and perfect for astronomical observation but turns out, it was way too bright to see anything 😅 While I couldn't see the meteor shower I still took a picture of the night sky to commemorate the moment, Orion was very beautiful 🥰 I decided against posting the picture because all you would see is darkness, you would have to look really closely to make out anything *laughs*

By the way, my "Wakana Birthday Classic ~ Happy Hello Day ~" was successfully completed on December 10 last Friday! My second time at Kioi Hall this. And here are some pictures from the rehearsal ♪ Here I am with the guest vocalist Nanri Yuuka-chan ♪ For some reason our circle before the performance turned out like this ♪ (I am motivating everyone.)

After the performance I talked to a friend who had come to see the performance, they told me, “it was such a great set list!” Hearing that made me so happy that I thought I would share the set list with all of you *laughs*😁

When thinking about the set list for this concert, I felt a strong need to perform as many songs as possible in a classical arrangement since I did a lot of them with an acoustic band this year. I made a set list made up of my original songs, a couple Christmas songs, songs that I wanted to hear Yuuka sing and some Kalafina songs ❗️😄 Of course I also had to choose a few songs from my Anime Classic album 💕 Yuuka-chan's "Memory" was suggested by herself, I was very happy to stroll down memory lane together with Yuuka during the performance ｡.:*･'(*ﾟ▽ﾟ*)'･*:.｡.   I really wanted to hear "Akatsuki no Kuruma" so I asked for it *laughs* Same goes for “Seiya”. I wanted a song where we could harmonise so I made that suggestion. *laughs* 😂 Well, in fact, the entire set list turned out to be everything that I wanted *laughs* 🤣 I guess it’s okay because it's my birthday! ️ \\\\ ٩ ('ω') و //// (Thank you everyone for making my dream come true). I also picked the two Christmas songs that I wanted to sing ♪ 🤗🎄 As for the Kalafina songs, I had a hard time choosing because there were so many I wanted to sing. After consulting with Shin-san, we narrowed it down to 3 songs and ultimately ended up with 2 songs (* ^^ *)

When it comes live shows I always remind myself that there is really nothing more important than to have a good set list. First of all, I think a set list is like a power point presentation of your live which provides all important bullet points to the music director, musicians and staff so they really understand what kind of live I want it to be. Just by looking at the set list I want everyone to get an idea of the atmosphere I want to convey. Also, I think that it strongly affects the arrangements when I share my thoughts regarding the connection between different songs and the reason behind putting them in this particular order. Once you have decided on a set list, you can try it out for yourself, get a sense of how it flows, whether it feels a bit off at certain points. I try to look at it as objectively as possible and create something that everyone will be satisfied with. Then I will show it to everyone else who is involved. We will exchange impressions and thoughts throughout many meetings and rehearsals. I will make all sorts of adjustments while receiving objective opinions from my music director (Shin-san in this case). Of course there are some things that will only become apparent once the musicians are actually playing the songs, so we may change the song order during some of the final rehearsals.

So that’s what goes on behind the scenes before you hear the songs during the actual concert, that moment is always so much better than anything I could have imagined (o ^^ o). ) No matter how many times I imagine what a live could be like, nothing beats the feeling of actually standing on stage and performing in front of everyone, it’s way beyond my imagination. Above all, the most important thing is for everyone to have fun with the music. I want people to smile at a concert and I want to touch their hearts with my music. I always make a set list with that feeling \ (^-^) /

Okay, that got a little out of hand, I talked a lot about set lists, this year I had to come up with so many set lists that everyone would like so I somehow couldn’t help but write about the process a little. 🤗 Thank you to everyone who came to the concert!

okay, let’s see…

1. digimon series (1-4); digimon is my childhood like, my very first conscious show. i have A LOT of problems with it tbh (s2 especially) but i love it to bits and pieces. i’m also a huge takari and mimato fan so i suppose you can already tell one problem, haha. but shipping aside, my favorite character is hikari and her digimon partner (plus evolutions of course), i also really like izumi and her evolutions. i can’t say much more but if you ever need something light and no need to really think much, this is your series!

now for the harder parts, 2 and 3…

2. tesla note; okay so i KNOW pretty much everyone dislikes this anime but if you give it a try, take away the animation hate thingy and you’ll find a really fun show. i am a huge kuruma/botan fan and they are actually close to canon! also, opening and ending songs are really good! i have them on repeat on spotify hehe.

3. a tie between koikimo and akatsuki no yona; why? well, koikimo because i am a fan of may/december romance (as long as it is legal and consensual and nothing happens until they are at least of legal age) and i love that it’s so cute and funny and fluffy, and there’s really nothing to do but get all giddy and squeamish hahaha. as for akatsuki no yona, another favorite of mine is boydguard/princess, spoiled princess turned not so spoiled, girl archer, reverse harem, wholesomeness…so yes, those say it all.

p.s. i ordered all the available akatsuki no yona volumes but the bookstore has yet to complete them huhuhu; and i’ll be ordering koikimo when it’s available in english already

Rambling, Unorganized Naruto Band AU

Minato is a former teen idol turned manager for a band composed of Rin, Obito, and Kakashi. They’re on their way to the top when Obito is injured in a stage accident that ultimately ends his music career. Rin leaves the music industry as a result and starts working in sea turtle conservation. (Obito resurfaces years later as an EDM musician with a mask under the pseudonym Tobi.)

Kakashi dicks around as a solo artist for a few years and eventually starts managing an up and coming band composed of Sakura, Sasuke, and Naruto.

Sasuke’s older brother, Itachi, was a rising star. Under pressure from his manager, Danzo, he teamed up with a band called the Akatsuki to toughen up his image. The Akatsuki were a rock band with a reputation for partying hard. While Itachi does gain new fans, he falls into the world of drugs and eventually OD’s.

Sasuke is determined to avenge the Uchiha name, so he has to make it to the top. Unfortunately, his band mates aren’t as dedicated. He’s eventually lured away by producer, Orochimaru, who promises to make Sasuke famous, and goes solo. (Sasuke plays all his own instruments in the recording studio, but team taka are his touring band.)

Sasuke and Taka eventually part ways with Orochimaru to start their own indie label.

Sasuke is replaced in Team 7 by alternative musician Sai. His older brother, Tenzou, is a bit overprotective because Sai is autistic, so he sticks around to ensure his little brother isn’t taken advantage of. That, and he has a crush on Kakashi.

Unless otherwise stated: nations are record companies, Hokage are presidents/ceos, Summons are mascots, teams are bands, and Sensai are managers.

Team ebisu: Konohamaru, moegi, and udon are high school students in ebisu’s music class. Konohamaru is Naruto’s biggest fan and next door neighbor.

Sand siblings: Theyre a death core band, or some kind of metal. Gaara on lead guitar and vocals, Temari on drums, Kankuro on bass. Kankuro and Temari also do cool special effects for their music videos. Shukaku is a creature mascot they made up for their band of the same name.

Team 7. Sakura plays drums and does backing vocals. Sasuke plays bass and lead vocals. Naruto plays lead guitar and refuses to be resigned to backing vocals. Sasuke has the best voice and is the most musically gifted, but Naruto has passion. Sakura is the only person holding this mess together. Sai joins them later and becomes their main lyric writer. Kuruma is their mascot. Naruto constantly tweets picks of his pet toads. Kakashi literally has 8 dogs. Menma is an artistic persona Naruto assumed in a set of music videos.

Team 8. Kiba and Hinata both do vocals. Shino is heavily influenced by classic Linkin Park. Kiba plays drums. Hinata plays keytar. Shino plays bass. Akamaru is Kiba’s dog and the official band mascot. Kurenai does all their album artwork.

Team Gai. Tenten plays drums. She’s heavily influenced by all girl rock bands. Neji sings and plays piano. He is classically trained. Lee plays the drums and posts behind the scenes videos of everything and it’s almost always just videos of Neji doing normal things and then getting mad about being recorded. Gai is a very active manager.

Team 10. This band has RANGE to rival Fergie. Ino is the top female artist of the year. She sings and plays lead guitar. Choji plays drums. Shikamaru plays bass and gripes about practice. Asuma tells them not to do drugs - He does not practice what he preaches. I have a very vivid image in my head of Ino covering Jet’s “Are You Gonna Be My Girl?”

All four teams have toured together pretty regularly.

Team Taka. Suigetsu plays lead guitar. Juugo plays bass. Karin plays drums. Sasuke plays any other instrument needed and sings.

The Sannin. They rose to fame quickly but split soon after due to artistic differences. Orochimaru became the next mcr. Tsunade started her own record company. Jiraiya writes bad romance novels for a living.

Team Minato. Kakashi sings lead vocals and plays bass. Rin plays lead guitar and sings backing vocals. Obito plays drums. (Maybe switch Rin and obito’s instruments?)

The akasuki. Nagato is the head of their indie record label before they’re bought by madara’s company. Yahiko is nagato’s assistant. Itachi records with them but he’s not an official member of the band. They tour together a lot. Same with Tobi . Orochimaru was a guest artist on one album. Konan plays keytar and sings lead vocals. Deidara and Zetsu are roadies and head the special effects crew. Kakuzu plays drums. Hidan plays lead guitar. Sasori plays violin. Kisame plays bass guitar.

Idk how the fourth shinobi war fits into this, but I imagine there’s some kind of revolution in the music industry? Or maybe Madara advocates for vocaloids and auto tune over real musicians cause if he’s not the top artist, nobody can be! And Tobi, as a DJ and EDM artist can totally get behind that because it doesn’t affect his job security.

The founders are some sort of musical pioneers? Maybe like the Beatles? Tobirama is @k1dekismadaratemple’s swag tobirama. They eventually break up because Madara and tobirama won’t stop fighting. Hashimada also complicated things.

Kaguya is obviously some sort of musical pioneer, too. Maybe Elvis-like? Ooh! Or she invents auto tune! Or just makes it popular. Or maybe she’s a vocaloid!

Neji and Hinata’s dads were in a band together. When they broke up, Hinata’s dad got the rights to all of their music,
