The story of two broken souls (Kaz Brekker x Reader) Part 7
Fandom: Six of Crows
Pairing: eventual Kaz Brekker x Reader
Warnings: alcohol consumption, kissing, drugs, slight sexual actions
A/N: Hello! Welcome to another part! I made this one so we could see a bit more action from the Blade. I know it's not as easy to render someone unconscious as I described, but I suck at fights/action descriptions, so forgive me. Although, I still hope you'll enjoy this part. Remember requests are open and let me know what you think!

"Wake up." I groaned at Jesper's voice. He was shaking my shoulder making me swat away his hand. He chuckled before ripping my duvet away.
"I'm gonna kill you." I threaten sitting up and glaring at the smiling boy.
"No you won't. You love me too much." He shrugged throwing my duvet on the bed and heading for my dresser. It was four months since I started working for Brekker and in that time I managed to befriend Jesper. He was a constant in my life by now. "We're going out to collect some intel."
"Why?" I groaned getting up and taking my clothes from him. I walked behind the curtains to change, while he walked around my room to probably collect my belongings.
"Kaz wants us to spy on few guys. There's talks of potential outbreak in one of the gangs." I hummed tying up my hair. Ever since Brekker send me out with Inej, I was send on different types of errands. Most Dregs saw me as the fourth Crow, while I stubbornly said I was still only a bartender. "And since you're good at getting informations out of men he wants you to come with me."
"So I'm basically going to do all the work and babysit you in the meantime?" I furrowed my brows going back to him. He handed me my pistol and two small swords that I hid under my cloak.
"We can grab your favourite coffee on the way back." He smirked leading me out of my room.
"You know that you should drink coffee after you wake up, not when you're already halfway into the day." I huffed walking downstairs with him. Jesper only threw his arms around my shoulders and we went through the Slat with me waving at the few Dregs.
"I hope you'll do the job faster knowing you'll get your coffee when we're done." He explained leading me through the streets. I hummed agreeing and watched the people. I could tell from the crowd that I only got few short hours of sleeps. I had a night shift that turned longer dew to the massive crowd at the bar.
We walked the streets acting like we were there to buy things, with Jesper actually spending money on a new belt and a brooch to his hat.
"The three men at the corner." He said quietly making me nod lightly. I smiled picking up one of the shawls and acting like I was trying it on. We laughed for a bit before I put it down.
"Oh, I want to check that stall." I said pointing excitedly at the stall that was right next to the men. There were some old things layed out and I figured one of them was selling them.
"We were supposed to get coffee now." Jesper frowned playing along and I made puppy eyes at him. "Fine, go ahead. I'll get coffee by myself." He groaned making me smile broadly. With a quick wink his way I skipped to the stall.
I walked up to the table and skimmed my eyes over the display. I heard the men quiet down and could feel their eyes on me, but acted like I didn't notice.
"Can I help you young lady?" I raised my head looking startled.
"Oh, sorry. I just noticed your stall and couldn't stop myself from heading over." I looked to the other men and bit my lip in embarrassment. "I can come back another time if-"
"Nonsense." He waved me off stepping closer and the others walked away. "A client as beautiful as yourself shouldn't have to wait."
"Thank you." I smiled bashfully and looked down to his display. "How did you acquire such a collection sir?"
"I travelled a lot." He shrugged acting nonchalantly and I looked up at him with amazement in my eyes. "You can call me William, sweetheart." I blushed looking down again. I picked up a small beaded bracelet and run my fingers over it.
"This one looks amazing." I said gushing over the jewellery. He chuckled taking it off my hands and clasping it around my wrist.
"Looks even better now." He winked making me giggle.
"How much for this one?" I asked looking up at him through slightly hooded eyes.
"Take it as a gift." William smiled before quickly eyeing me up. "What do you say about drinks later on?" I raised my eyebrows gaping softly.
"That would be nice." I smiled acting shy and looked to the bracelet again.
"Then let's meet here in four hours. I should be done by then." He smiled my way again and I noted giggling again.
"I'll see you then." I waved before hurrying off to find Jesper.
He was waiting around the corner hidden from William. He smirked giving me my coffee which I gladly accepted.
"So?" He asked starting to walk to the Club.
"I've got myself a bracelet." I laughed showing my wrist off. Jesper chuckled rolling his eyes.
"What about intel?" He pressed on and I shrugged.
"His name is William and he's going to take me out for drinks in four hours." I said carelessly and the boy gasped in shock.
"Just like that?" He sounded surprised and I shook my head lightly.
"Oh Jesper. All I had to do is bat my eyelashes and blush a bit for the man to think I was an innocent girl he can take advantage off. It works every time." I said stepping into the Club. Jesper led me to the booth were Kaz was looking over the tables.
"She's meeting one of them in four hours." He was the one to speak up and Kaz turned to look my way.
"Couldn't get any intel?" He asked with a sharp edge to his tone.
"Couldn't really go up to them and straight up ask." I snapped lightly before sipping the rest of my coffee.
"Make sure to get as much information as you can." Brekker said turning to the tables again.
"No worries, I'll get him tipsy and work my magic." I murmured eyeing the bar and I got up sighting. "Now excuse me gentlemen, but I can see we're short on staff."
"You finished your shift only five hours ago." Brekker squinted his eyes at me and I shrugged.
"Might as well get back to work for those few hours I'm free." I said before sliding behind the bar and helping with orders.
The few hours went by quickly with the amount of people at the bar. I had hands full of work, but when it was nearly my time I bid my goodbyes and ran to the Slat. I quickly picked up more girly clothes to play the part and left to find William.
He was standing near the place his stall used to be and he broke into a smile seeing me.
"Hi." I said softly and he grabbed my hand to kiss my knuckles.
"You look beautiful." He complimented making me blush lightly. "Shall we?" He linked our arms before leading me in the direction of a bar.
"Where are we going?" I asked curiously and William only smirked before asking me about myself. I told him bits and pieces and asked about his life too. He was answering quickly and perfectly, which made me realise he had a story made up already. It won't be as easy as I believed.
We took a table at one of the neutral bars and I let myself relax slightly. It was safe in places like this. William order a glass of wine for me and whiskey for himself.
"So tell me about your travels. You said you did it a lot." I put my hand under my chin and willed myself to look as innocent as possible. A girl stuck in a grime city of Ketterdam.
"I traveled the seas." He smiled going into a long story about his travels. Visiting each city and every shore and going as far as crossing the Fold twice. I played along acting like I was in awe. His stories were much to colorful to be true, but I didn't point it out.
"Why did you come back to such a dark place as this city then?" I asked feigning confusion which he laughed at. I could tell he was already drank slightly with the way he looked to my body more often and his smirk turned lazy.
"I've got a good deal going on." William whispered leaning over the table.
"Like with your selling business?" I asked innocently with slightly widened eyes.
"That's just some fun." He waved taking a huge gulp of whiskey. "The boys you've seen me with are helping me get even. A bad guy thought he could trick me and take my money. Now, I'm going to take what's mine and maybe a bit more." William put a strand of my hair behind my ear and I had to stop my shiver of disgust. "What do you say we get out of here, huh?"
"Yeah." I breathed out shakily and we left with William paying. He had his arm wrapped around my waist and he stumbled a bit, but I could tell he was strong enough to pin me down. Still, I played along laughing at his dirty jokes and blushing at his touch. Soon we came near a run down motel and he led me upstairs to his room.
I stopped near the doors while he walked in further.
"Come on. I don't bite." He smirked my way making me bit my lip and sit down on his sofa. He sat near me and handed me another glass of wine.
"I thought you had your own place?" I asked looking around the room.
"Used to. This way is cheaper and I can put my money in the other business." William shrugged drawing weird patterns on my clothed shoulder.
"Right, the one you mentioned." I nodded taking a sip of my wine, but I felt the wooden taste on my tongue. I acted like I swallowed the wine and went for another sip letting the wine from my mouth go back to the glass. I swallowed again and I could see William smirk in satisfaction.
"You know, I wanted some company for awhile now. And here you are, such a gentle girl." He moved closer to me and put my hair back to whisper in my ear. "I'll make you mine. And when I rule the Razorgulls you'll be showered in gold and silk." He kissed behind my ear and started to move down my neck. I acted dazed and put my hand behind his neck.
I ran my fingers over his spine and found the spot I loved to use. He was nearing my cleavage when I pushed down on the hollow place under his skull. In his lustful actions he didn't notice the pressure and soon I felt his body weight down on me. I huffed pushing him off. He was unconscious probably for only short period of time so I quickly looked around his room and read through few papers before slipping out of his room.

Tumblr media
Working for Kaz Brekker meant that your life was in danger six days on seven when the luck was on your side, but that didn't stop you from having fun.
Not only you were part of the dregs, but you also were Nina's best friend, and that meant that no woman and no man had any chance to say no to you, not when you flirted with them.
It wasn't a secret that you loved fun, and just like Nina and Jesper you loved having people's eyes on you. Kaz knew that the three of you could easily flirt your way out from any trouble if needed to.
"Green or red?" you asked Nina with two dress in your hands.
"Have you seen yourself in the mirror? Definitely green." she answered without looking, she was too focus tailoring her makeup in the mirror.
From the high of his ruthlessly, Kaz Brekker had given to all of you the free night, and you had decided to go out with your friends and have fun.
"Still try to make Jesper admitting his feelings?" asked Nina while you brushed your hair.
"Jesper is Jesper, he flirts with everyone. If he doesn't a move, then there is an entire city that is waiting to do it." you said with more confident than you felt. Jesper Fahey was the boy who had fucked up your mind since the beginning, with his witty remarks and his flirty personality, you had fell for him as a kruge fell in Kaz's pocket.
You didn't want to have to go and console yourself with strangers, but at the same time you couldn't wait Jesper forever.
Nina chuckled helping you with your hair and then walking with you downstairs. "Let see if we can find a worthy partner for you, Y/n."
They reached Matthias and Jesper outside the Slat; you had the suspect that Inej would have stayed sat on Kaz's window all night keeping him company.
Matthias had to shut Jesper's mouth when you girls arrived. He was devouring you with his eyes and the Fjerdan couldn't hold a smirk.
Damn it. Did you plan to seduce all Ketterdam that night? Because he would easily surrender at you.
When you approached he composed himself. "I can't decide if you look amazing in that dress or if you'd look better without it."
He winked and saw a little blush on your cheek, but if you were shy you hid it very well with a sly smirk. "I guess you're gonna have to see yourself."
"It's a primise then." he said before the four of you started walking around the streets of Ketterdam.
Your relationship had always been like that. Jesper couldn't deny that his comments had become more true and spontaneous, he couldn't help it, and it was hilarious for the people around you, because it was oblivious how you both felt toward each other for everyone but you.
"Love, I don't think we can afford a table here." Matthias said to Nina once they stopped in front of one of the most fancy pub in Ketterdam.
"Leave me and Y/n deal with that." she winked taking your arm with hers and bringing you at the counter where the owner, a beautiful Kaelish woman, stood.
Jesper stayed at the door with Matthias looking you and Nina flirting with the woman. He saw how her eyes were on you while you giggled and smiled at her. He couldn't hear what you were saying, but it seemed that it was working because now the woman had her arms rested on the counter, her face close to yours.
"Hard, isn't it?" asked knowingly Matthias beside him. "See the girl you like flirting with someone else and obliviously being reciprocated."
"They are Nina and Y/N, they always do...that" Jepser said waving his hands in the air to point you girls. "You are the one who find it strange."
"Maybe you are right, but it's one of the things I love about her. But still, it's not a shame admitting you are jealous...I am too."
He didn't have time to answer that you and Nina arrived with two huge smiles on. I am not jealous. "Guess who has a table as a gift of the house?"
"We do, don't we?" asked Jesper excited.
"Yes! Come." you said taking his arm and bringing him at the table with Nina and Matthias behind you.
"You have to thanks Y/n, she did all the work. The owner couldn't take off her eyes from her as she talked." said Nina smirking as Jesper shifted on his seat.
"I was lucky she liked my accent." you waved your hand in the hand as it was nothing.
Nina chuckled. "More like she wanted to hear you moaning with your accent in her bedroom."
Jesper and Matthias choked themself with their drinks while you started laughing. "At least my beautiful accent gave us a table and free drinks."
You enjoyed the night, drinking and dancing. Jesper knew that people flirted with you everyday, but he thought that someone was pranking him that night. Every time he turned around someone was talking with you, making you giggle or blush. He was getting crazy.
Couldn't they just...walk away?
He moved closer to you at some point and took you into a conversation everytime he saw someone approaching.
You noticed that something annoyed Jesper, but you couldn't figure out what. You all were having fun, even if with your disbelief he hadn't danced with anyone but you. Was he ill?
"I'll go and take two drinks, stay here dove." he said in your ear walking away and disappearing behind the crowd.
You stayed there for while when a young man of few years older than you approached smiling. "You must be the star of the night because no one is shining like you."
You tried your best to not laugh. "And you must be in the wrong place, the circus in on the other side of the city."
"Ouch, pretty and quick-witten. A letal combination." he said amused.
You shrugged. "What can I say, Ketterdam made me."
You two kept talking about silly things keeping the flirt in the air. He was the one more eager, you were just waiting Jesper but the company of a pretty man wasn't bad at all.
You were laughing at one of his joke when an arm took your waist and squeezed you. "Piss off dude, she is with me."
You watched Jesper with widened eyes as he burned the man with his eyes.
"She didn't seem so to me." said the man annoyed.
"Well sorry to disappoint you. Now go away if you don't want trouble."
"Jesper!" you didn't know what was happening. You had been talking with people all night and he hadn't said a word, so why now was different?
"It's fine, I'll go." you and Jesper remained alone and he looked like nothing happened.
"Drink?" he said offering you one glass.
You shoke your head astonished and walked away toward the door. You needed fresh air and stay as far away as possible from him.
"Y/n!" you heard his voice behind you but you didn't care. What was wrong with him? He had never had such behaviour in none of your nights out. "Y/n wait!" He followed you outside, the drinks forgotten somewhere inside. "Tell me what's wrong."
"What was that?" you asked crossing your arm in front of your chest.
"What was what?" he said confused making you rolling your eyes.
"You were...rude. You had no reason to threat him like you did."
You could see in his eyes that he didn't know what to say. He looked for an good lie but it was hard under your inquisitors eyes. "Y-you were suppose to be with me!"
"So? That never stopped you from finding other partners." you raised an eyebrow obliviously.
He gave a quick look around, as if something could help him, but when his eyes fell on you again he knew he had to tell the true otherwise he could loose you.
"I was annoyed, alright? All those people flirting with you, saints I couldn't even turn around a moment that someone had already approached you." he agitated his hands in the air while you widened your eyes.
"Why should it bother you anyway?" you asked defensive.
He looked at you astonished, as if you were asking why the water was wet. "Because I like you! Hadn't been oblivious enough these past months?!" Now your mouth was a bit hopen, speechlees. He seemed to notice what he had said after few seconds. "Oh...it would be too late saying that it's not true, wouldn't it?"
You nodded quickly. "Yes, definitely too late."
"Well, you weren't suppose to find out like this. I had planned something like a date, maybe with some candles and a good view, but I guess that in front of a pub in the Barrel sounds fine too." he tried to joke shrugging while you were still processing his words.
"You are still in time, the night is not over for that date." you sounded casual but you couldn't hold your smile while you said it.
He looked at you surprised before smiling like a child. "Let's tell Nina and Matthias we are leaving then."
You walked inside the pub, both smiling like idiots, before you felt a hand on you wrist that turned you around and a pair of soft lips on yours. Jesper was kissing you while he kept you close with his right hand on your waist and the other on your cheek, and you didn't think twice about putting your hands behind his neck.
"I have to make sure no one will flirt with you again tonight." he said seductively with a smirk a few inches from your mouth making you blush.

Chapter 40 never happened :')
I hope you enjoy it, love you all!!! <3
English is not my first language, so i may have mistakes, i apologize in advance :')
If you see any grammar errors, please write it in the comments or dm me!
Kaz had never seen himself as a sentimental person, but in that moment he felt almost at peace, he felt the unbearable and constant pain of Jordie's loss lessen in his head. All five crows were with him, they had come together for a job and had successfully finished the job. Despite Matthias’s grunts and Wylan saying, 'What am I doing here?'. Kaz almost felt Kuwei's absence… almost. Now Kuwei has probably started a fire in the Little Palace and is getting scolded from Zoya Nazyalensky, Kaz thought. Poor Kuwei… Now everyone except Kuwei was in Slat, in Kaz's room. They were laughing and eating waffles. Inej was sitting on the edge of Kaz's chair, talking and laughing with Jesper. Kaz wanted to draw her to himself, he wanted her to laugh at him and look at him nicely, but of course he couldn't. Coward, he told himself, weak. Why are you keeping Jordie in your head, why are you torturing his soul and yourself like this? He shouldn't be this weak, he should be able to approach Inej without fainting. But he just looked at her, as he always did.
“Stop looking stupidly at Inej,” Nina said with a laugh.
"You should see your face. Oh no, you're starting to blush, Kaz the rose, a sullen, grumpy, red rose."
Everyone was laughing, Kaz prepared to say something rather rude to Nina, but when he saw Inej smile, he realized he was grateful to Nina.
"Nina, dear, you're starting to bullshit, if you get some sleep, maybe when you wake up we'll meet a reasonable person instead of you."
"I'm eating waffles Kaz, that's my most reasonable state."
“I agree with Demjin,” Matthias said with a yawn. Everyone turned towards him, and Nina dropped the waffle she was holding onto the plate.
"About that we should sleep, of course. Otherwise, you're always reasonable, little red bird."
Nina smiled in response and took the waffle off her plate and continued to eat.
"Nina, you and Matthias should stay in my room, Inej said. You can sleep in the bed, I’ll put a mattress on the floor and sleep. Wylan stays in Jesper's room anyway."
"I would never put you on the floor. Matthias sleeps on the floor and we'll have a girls' night, what do you say?"
"It's okay for me to sleep on the floor, Nina, really. You are both very tired today, you should sleep in bed."
"No," said Matthias, "if anyone should be lying on the floor, it should be me."
Matthias said this as if he were taking on the most important and dangerous mission in the world, as if Fjerda was in danger and he was the only one who could save Fjerda. Almost as dramatic as I am, Kaz thought. All but Kaz laughed at Matthias. Kaz was thinking of something else.
"You're like a sleepy baby, merchling," said Jesper. "We're going to sleep or I'll have to carry Wylan."
"But we haven't figured out who sleeps where yet," Wylan said.
"Enough," said Kaz calmly, but he wasn’t calm. He wondered if I should say it or not, thought how Inej might feel, wondered if it would be weird to say it in public, and finally he thought he should stop thinking. His life had always been spent planning something, what was the reward for that? Blood, loss, pain… maybe some money too. He thought he didn't have a heart, but Inej had changed everything he knew. Now he had to act not with his brain, but with his newly discovered heart.
"Inej, you can stay with me, if you want. If you don't want to, have it your way!"
Everything was fine until the last sentence, Kaz thought, how could I speak so stupidly?
Everyone was staring at Kaz in shock. Kaz was in no mood to look at anyone, afraid of Inej's answer. Was she going to tell him to rot in hell, that she would rather die than spend the night with him, or would she not even bother to speak and finish off Kaz with a stab of a knife?
"I'll stay with you," Inej said.
Inej's voice calmed Kaz, filling his head, leaving no room for Jordie. Inej's voice was Kaz's branch to hold on to, her shelter in the stormy sea, her umbrella in the rainy weather. It was the only thing that calmed Kaz down.
- I won't be able to sleep from happiness tonight, said Nina, clapping her hands.
Kaz rolled his eyes, but he felt the same as Nina.

Someone Like Me
summary : first, once again, i suck at summaries. Kaz meets a friend of Nina’s that he didn’t know about who is more like him than anyone else he’s ever met and that scares him more than he’d like.
It's a relaxing evening at the slat, or at least as much as it can be in Ketterdam. All the crows were sitting around a table talking and having a great night, even Kaz. He won't show it but he enjoys nights like this more than he'd like to admit. Nina and Jesper were laughing and talking about who knows what while Matthais sat with a loving smile on his face, Wylan and Inej sat talking about his newest tests, and Kaz sat just listening and watching, enjoying the time with his friends; his family. "Oh, Kaz! My friend is supposed to stop by tonight and drop off some things I asked her for so don't be surprised if we get a knock soon." Nina mentions. "You have friends?" He sarcastically said. "For a matter of fact, I do. She's amazing, I think you should meet her. She'd be a great addition to the crows. She's a fabrickator, both a Durast and an Alkemi. She is also the smartest person I've ever met, and the best fighter too. I've watched her and Matthais spar and she took him down in seconds easily. She's insanely good, Kaz. She'd be a great asset to the team. I think you'd like her too, she has similar interests among other stuff." She explains. Kaz thought for a moment before responding. "We'll see if I agree with you once I meet her." Nina thanks him with a smile and goes back to her conversation.
Kaz wasn't sure how he felt about the thought of bringing someone else onto the team. It was another person who could betray him, another person he could get attached to, another weakness. Not just anyone can join the crows, they had to earn it.
About half an hour later there was a knock at the slat door. Nina excitedly hopped up to get it. "It's her!" The heartrender almost squealed. The door opened to a girl, probably about 5'6 who has (H/L), (H/C) hair. She was gorgeous with a button nose that supported her thin-rimmed glasses, full lips, striking (E/C) eyes, and a curvy figure. She was wearing a tight green turtle neck, black pants, boots, and carrying a satchel on her shoulder. Kaz swears he almost felt himself stop breathing. The feeling he got when he saw her, despite not knowing her, scared him in a way he didn't like. He decided to push it down and continue on with the night.
Nina invited the girl inside with a smile that was returned by her. The girls walked back to the table where the rest of the group sat. "Y/N, the crows, the crows, Y/N." She introduced them all. Multiple greetings were heard around the table from everyone except Kaz of course. Y/N shyly waved with a soft smile. "I brought those things you asked about," Y/N said quickly changing the subject. She opened her bag and pulled out 3 boxes and set them on the table. She opened the first one which held a seemingly normal knife. "Here's the knife you asked about with the poison injection abilities. There are three vials in the box and there's one in the handle already. It injects a few drops upon impact, it’s potent so it will kill someone with just a few drops." Y/N said showing how to open the handle and where the vial was. She proceeded to open the next box that was full of bullets. "These are the bullets that explode upon impact you asked about." She said before setting them back down. You could see Inej eyeing up the knife and Jesper doing the same to the bullets. She finally opened the last box which revealed 7 sets of earpieces. "These are the earpieces, they have microphones in them to communicate from long distances." She almost mumbled, obviously nervous around all the people. Kaz had been watching the girl in shock the whole time she spoke. Nina didn't lie, she was insanely talented and would be a good asset.
"You're the best Y/N!" Nina exclaimed, making a quick movement to go to hug the girl. She quickly stopped when Y/N flinched slightly. No one else besides Y/N, Nina, and Kaz had realized it with everyone else too busy looking at the new gear. "Shit, fuck I'm sorry Y/N it was a mistake." Nina started apologizing profusely. "Nina, it's fine. Mistakes happen. I'm just a freak anyway." She said quietly. Kaz felt his heart clench at that. She was like him, she was anything but a freak though. "Anyway, I should probably get going." She said, staring at her feet. "You should stay for a while, meet everyone." Nina tried to convince her. Y/N was obviously apprehensive. "You should stay," Kaz said before he could stop himself. Both Nina and Y/N turned towards him quickly. Nina had a shocked look on her face, surprised that Dirtyhands would ever suggest that he wanted someone to stay. She thought for a second and smiled slightly and nodded.
The girl sat down at the last empty chair at the table, which happened to be next to Kaz. She immediately pulled into herself out of habit, bringing on her knees to her chest and wrapping her arms around it, making herself as small as possible. Jesper and Inej immediately started asking questions about their new tools to which Y/N answered gladly. Kaz watched them contently, especially Y/N. She looked really happy talking about what she loved. Soon the conversations turned away from solely her after the crows had their fill of integrating. "Kaz, Y/N is the most knowledgeable person I've met about books, you guys have that in common," Nina mentions. Y/N glances at him with a soft smile. Everything about her made Kaz's fight or flight kick in. She was weirdly comforting but at the same time kicked on every instinct he had. He felt the need to run but also never move again. "What's your favorite genre of books?" Y/N asked the boy. Kaz missed having someone to talk to about interests like this, the rest of the crows weren't into things like this. Trying to make him comfortable she answers first. "I tend to read realistic fiction or fantasy." Kaz studied her face constantly looking for any signs that she wasn't genuine. "I like fantasy or mystery books." He answers. She gets a huge smile. He liked that, she had a genuine smile, that's rare in the barrel. Her smile was slightly lopsided and full of joy. "Mysteries are the best, I'm always on the edge of my seat. Sometimes I feel like I can't put the book down even when I have stuff to get done." She laughs. Kaz almost felt himself smirk. "Those are the best ones." He answers genuinely. "I just finished this amazing book, it's about the story of Achilles but from the point of view of Patroclus. It's called the song of Achilles and it's amazing." She says with a smile. "I'll have to borrow it sometime." He says. At that moment the two of them weren't even paying attention to the crows around them anymore, so they didn't see the knowing look from Nina.
The group all continued to talk and have a good time. Everyone liked Y/N a lot. Nina was accurate in her description of her. She was super smart and sweet. At one point they were talking about combat strategies and she was asked "What's the quickest way to win a fight?" by Jesper. Matthias let out a loud snort at that question, knowing the brunette's skills. "Are we talking immobilizing or killing? Those are two different answers." She says with a smirk. The girl had come out of her shell within the past hour and had grown more comfortable around the group. "Both?" Jesper said, confused. "For immobilization, the quickest way is to slice their Achilles tendon on the back of their ankle, if you do that they're not moving. Also, you always go for the eyes, nose, and groin, and if you use the bottom of the palm of your hand you can shatter someone's nose since that's the strongest part of your hand. Besides the Achilles tendon, the other easiest way if you know how to do it is there's a nerve on the side of your neck that if you squeeze right, knocks them out. Then if the purpose is killing you go for the neck, wrist, or thigh because that's where your main arteries are." She said matter of factly. Kaz almost laughed at how the girl said it.
That was the start of it all. Shortly after this first meeting Y/N started coming around more and more and everyone loved her, including Kaz. Kaz had started having more than friendly feelings towards her a couple months after meeting. The crows were eventually able to convince her to join so she was now living at the slat, making Kaz’s life a living hell. He felt like his heart was beating out of his chest constantly, and he knew that Nina knew this too with her heartrender skills. Nina was constantly giving him knowing looks and all he did was glare back at her. Kaz was drawn to her like no one else.
The two of them had become close over the last year, closer than most. They would often sit and talk for hours, a lot of times about books or anything else that came to their minds. Y/N was often like lightning in a bottle, constantly moving and going a million miles an hour. She seemed hyper and impulsive on the outside but Kaz knew she was very strategic and methodical. She was insanely smart, which she often used to her advantage to beat Kaz in chess to his dismay. Both parties had developed feelings for each other but both were too scared to tell the other because they’re idiots but the universe was going to find a way to get them together.
The heist the crows had tonight was insanely important. The group was supposed to go to a merchant party because while the merchant and everyone else was distracted they were going to steal a necklace that was held in the wife’s vanity room. The necklace was worth an insane amount of money so the crows took the task right away.
The only problem with the heist was that Y/N and Kaz had to be the two who had to fake being a couple at the party to keep the merchant distracted so the others could get the necklace. “We have to do what?” Y/N exclaimed when she found out her role. She felt her chest clench at the thought of being around that many people. “I need Inej on the roofs, Jesper on the ground as backup, Wylan as a waiter ready to cause a distraction if need be, and Nina and Mattaius getting the necklace so we’re the only two left.” Kaz grumbles, obviously not happy about the situation either. Both of them sucked it up for the money.
The night of the heist Y/N was the last to be ready since she had to wear a dress and makeup. She stepped down the stairs to where the crows were waiting. As soon as she stepped into the room there were joking whistles and screams from all the crows except Kaz. Kaz stood there in shock, his breath taken away. Emma was wearing a black dress with stars on it, a simple pair of black heels, several pieces of silver moon and star jewelry and finally topping it off with a few moon and star hair pins pinning back some of her hair. She looked gorgeous.
As they got closer and closer to the party both Y/N and Kaz became increasingly more nervous. “We don’t have to touch.” She says breaking the silence between them as they were dragging behind the group. “We have to and we both know it. If we don’t touch like a couple they’ll become suspicious. I know neither of us like touch but we’ll have to deal with it.” Kaz quickly responds, his voice rigid. She just nodded, not wanting to make this night worse.
Everyone got in their positions as soon as they made it to the house, leaving Kaz and Y/N near the entrance. Kaz hesitantly grabs her hand; he was shocked when he did. He didn’t panic as much as he thought. Kaz’s aversion was worse than Y/N’s for sure since hers was mainly quick movements and things related to abuse but Kaz’s was any kind of touch. All he felt was Jordie when he touched anyone, the stench of the air, the cold water around him, the stiff body he was clenching on to. He didn’t immediately drown touching her though, he felt the waters come up but they stopped, going no further.
As the two of them continued through the night the touches became easier and more frequent, it almost felt...real. Both of them deep inside wished it was. They wished the other loved them back. The two of them got many compliments throughout the night on how cute they were and questions about how they met among other things. The way Kaz would wrap his arm around her waist made her heart stop, the way Y/N put her hand on his shoulder and smiled at him did the same to Kaz.
Once Nina and Mattaius got the necklace everyone made their way back to the slat. Everyone was happy and ready to celebrate a successful heist except for Kaz and Y/N. They had a tension that wouldn’t go away. Both knew they’d have to talk about it or it’d ruin further heists but neither wanted to make the first move. So once they got to the slat both of them lingered at the door after everyone else. “Can-” “We should-” they both went to say at the same time. They couldn’t help but laugh at how in tune they were. “We need to talk about things.” Y/N says. “I know.” Kaz says, anxiety in his voice. “I like you Kaz.” the girl states plainly, shocking the bastard of the barrel. He couldn’t say the words he wanted to but he had to say something. “Yes.” was all he could manage out. It would sound stupid to anyone else but to Y/N and Kaz they both knew what that meant. “I can never touch you like you might want though.” He says anxiously. “Kaz, I have just as much of an issue with touch as you. Physical affection isn’t something I need in a relationship. If we really want to, we can work on our aversions together.” She answers with a comforting smile. Kaz nods, knowing she's right. “So together?” Kaz questions, trying to confirm that she is his and he is hers. She nods with a smile.
That was the start of it all. The start of the King and Queen of Ketterdam, taking it over together.

for the winter/holiday prompts! #8! but idk what fandoms you're into any more ):
I’m so sorry if you haven’t read/don’t like Six of Crows, but I’m doing a reread so that’s where I’m at these days. Also my good friend is in labor right now, so my head’s on one track and I need some fluff.

8. Eggnog has the word ‘egg’ in it. It’s practically a protein shake
“Are you afraid of Papa?” Nayalina asks, curiously.
Inej looks up from where she’s crouched by the lower door hinge, replacing the hardware to keep it from creaking in the night. She gently spits the screws from between her lips into her palm, silent against her half-fingered gloves.
“Why do you ask, meja? Are you?”
Naya laughs, her little voice trilling like a dozen birds on an island somewhere. “No! He says I’m the only one in the whole world. Does that mean you’re afraid of him too?”
Inej narrows her eyes and tries to remember the last time she spoke to a five-year-old who wasn’t her daughter. An occasion doesn’t immediately spring to mind, so she shrugs internally and goes to sit beside her on the bed. It’s been a common feeling around the Slat for the last few years, no one quite sure what’s appropriate for her to see and hear, but she thinks they’re doing all right. We know what not to do, Kaz had said, trying to mask his own obvious terror as Nina set the little bundle in his arms for the first time. Maybe not obvious to everyone, but she’s known him for over half her life. The fear was obvious to her, and not unfamiliar.
“Sometimes I am afraid of him,” she admits. “But I know he won’t hurt you or me. You know this, right?”
Naya laughs again. “Of course not! Anyway, he couldn’t hurt me if he tried.”
“Oh? And why is that?”
Naya leans close and whispers, “I am a powerful Grisha.”
“Are you really?” Inej keeps a straight face with some effort. “And why have I not heard of this before?”
“It’s a secret.”
“But Mama knows all the secrets, remember?
Naya frowns. “I forgot about that. I guess you can know.”
“And what is your Grisha power? Are you a fearsome heartrender like Nina? A clever fabrikator like Jesper?”
“I can grow a tree,” Naya says matter of factly. “I can point my finger, and a tree will grow right there. And if I point at a person, they will become a tree and cannot hurt me.” She points at the floor to demonstrate. Inej drops down into a crouch and peeks under the rug.
“I don’t see one.”
“I’m not using it now, silly Mama! If I grow a tree in the house, it will break the roof!”
Inej laughs and pounces back on the bed, wrapping her arms around the tiny girl.
Do you think she’s too small? She’d asked Kaz the week before. The other children she plays with seem so big compared to her. Are we feeding her enough?
If we feed her anymore we’ll have to do it by boatload, he’d said, knocking his hip against hers and dropping into the desk chair. You worry too much. And you’ve only got about six inches on her, so I don’t know what you’re complaining about.
She’d pushed his ledger off the desk with the tip of her toe and swung out the window. Kaz Brekker, teasing.
She won’t admit it to him—though she’s certain he knows—but she feels the years in her hips and ankles more and more these days. There are other spiders, now, who she used to think of as children in the days before she had her own. But she’s a few years away from being stuck on the ground. The half-gloves she wears now are her only visible concession to palms and joints that need extra support.
Do you think she’s a fool? Kaz asked yesterday. They’d just put Naya to bed, letting her tell them another story of magic and flying ships and talking animals. Inej isn’t sure where it all comes from—certainly her godfathers enjoy telling her tall tales, but there’s a lightness and cheerfulness to her stories that feels so out of place in the Barrel. Again, she wonders if they should have moved to another part of the city when Naya was born.
I think she’s happy.
Kaz had drummed his fingers against her shin. Too happy?
What do you mean?
I mean we were never— He’d swallowed and looked past her, through the wall, to a pair of little boys drinking chocolate. Do you think she’s too old to be so— you know.
Inej had run her fingers through his hair, rubbing her thumb over the small patch of grey at his temple. I think we survived all we did so our daughter can be a fool if she wants to.
Kaz had nodded, still not looking at her. I—
Worry too much. She’d kissed his cheek and rolled off the bed to grab a nightshirt.
“Thank you for not destroying the house, sweet one,” she says now, sticking her tongue between her teeth.
“You don’t believe me! You’re making fun of me,” Naya pouts.
“Never!” Inej begins to tickle her sides, setting off more tropical-bird laughter.
“Mama, no!”
There’s a short laugh from the door. “Does someone dare attack the most powerful Grisha in Ketterdam?” Kaz rasps. His voice is deeper, authority sure and effortless, but there’s a particular voice she’d never heard before Naya was born that only comes out here, with just the three of them. “Here, little one, dinner.”
Naya pops up to her feet and runs to her father, dropping a kiss on his arm and grabbing the mug he holds out to her.
“You knew about this Grisha thing?” Inej teases, and he flashes her a half-grin over Naya’s head.
“Eggnog!” Naya crows and drops down to sit on the floor and take a huge gulp.
“For dinner?”
The other half of Kaz’s lip twitches up. “There’s eggs in it.”
Inej rolls her eyes and slides past him, dropping the screws into his empty hands. “You finish fixing the door. I’m going to find this child a vegetable.”
“Eggnog is good, Mama!”
“Not if you want to be big and strong like your Auntie Nina,” she calls back. As she hops onto the banister she hears Kaz’s voice from behind her: “Come here, little one, I’ll show you what to do with a screwdriver.”
She sighs, considers turning around and protesting, but leaves them to it. She slides down from the third floor, making enough of a breeze to lift her hair off her neck, and feels the best parts of sixteen again.
