Setting inconsistencies aside, I've reached the conclusion that Grimlocks nosed face is an aberration in the tfp universe. (Seriously, it's not a joke, im not saying this only because he looks terrible).
Shockwave saw the dinosaurs and thought to reproduce those in cybertronians. We do not actually know how long it took him. Perhaps he also happened to watch early humanoids and thought that he will find out if he could add that to his experiments too, because why not.
To Cybertronians, the nosed face of the dinobots (but especially Grimlock, because looks so terribly human unlike all the others whose faces are metalic smooth) would be as unsettling as for humans seeing someone who got their nose ripped off. It is another visual evidence of the horrifying things that Shockwave does, as if being turned into a weird alt mode and having a messed up processor was not enough. Hence why Grimlock is not fond to removing his face plate, why his face is actually torn and having holes which let his internal components exposed under it, and why he seems to have trouble to be lucid without it.

Transformers: Prime Decepticons - Hands
So, I was looking at hands, as one does when they’re bored, and I noticed a few things:
Every single ‘Con has claws, except Soundwave and Breakdown.
Megatron, Starscream, Shockwave, Dreadwing, Skyquake, Knockout, and Airachnid have 5 fingers.
Soundwave, Breakdown, Insecticons, Predaking, Darksteel, and Skylynx have 4 fingers.
Vehicons only have 3 fingers.
Predacon claws are flawless in form and aesthetic.
While I know Soundwave has spindly fingers for practical reasons, it’s the perfect symbolic representation of how he declawed himself for the sake of the Cause, giving up much of his power to follow Megatron.
Kudos to the character designers for crafting each Decepticon’s hands to match their function:
Megatron, Dreadwing, Skyquake: Sharp and wide for various combat situations
Soundwave: Thin and straight for work with computers and tech
Starscream: Light and “bony,” perfect for a flight frame
Shockwave, Knockout, and Airachnid: Sharp and delicate for scientific and/or medical work
Breakdown: Wide and blunt for brute force attacks
Vehicons: Useless
Insecticons: Wide and curved for digging and slashing
Predacons: Sharp with additional armor plating for evisceration (help I love this word so much)
The Autobots could only dream of having hands this masterfully crafted ✨

Do you guys ever think about what Shockwave did during those 4 million years alone on Cybertron? Because I do.

i have come up with a new, extremely self indulgent AU for tfrb:
basically what happens is each individual character in tfp accidentally finds out about the rescue bots, whether it's through a ground bridge mishap, an intel scouting mission, even a situation where they get rescued.
this starts out with mostly autobots, because i assume griffin rock is either in autobot territory or a neutral/unclaimed area (or it's off the grid and nobody knows about it) (i think the last one is the funniest), but the decepticons also learn about them eventually.
now. here's where the funny/self indulgent part begins. none of them know anyone else knows. the autobots AND decepticons all assume they're the only one who knows about these bots, and that the team has been trying to live a normal, calm life away from the war.
team prime doesn't know optimus and bumblebee already know, and the decepticons don't know that these guys have connections to the war. and of course, the rescue bots always manage to worm their way into every. single. bot's. spark. all of them individually grow to care about the rescue bots, and independently decide to keep them secret. nobody wants their new friends to get hurt!
anyways shenanigans of course ensue because it's very hard to keep a previously extinct group a secret from all of your friends, and since everybody knows but doesn't know everybody knows it becomes a lot of ridiculous sneaking around and badly lying to everyone.
the rescue bots are SUPER confused by all these bots who keep showing up, but they pretty much just assume that someone spilled their secret and everyone after are all showing up to meet them. eventually i think they would start to figure everything out, but they don't fully comprehend that everyone has been trying to hide them from each other until some big reveal happens.
the way this pans out is probably the end of the war honestly, because again; no one wants these guys to get hurt, physically or emotionally, and if that means having a ceasefire so be it.

Conveying emotions is Shockwave’s biggest challenge.
Not to mention the most rewarding.

Since Alastor has an fondness of eating venison/deer, do you think it's possible he'd try and uh... eat Shockwave?
He’d try.

So got the guidebook and have been reading through it, here's some stuff I've noticed that no one else seems to have talked about:
Schloder has a taser built to take on Transformers
Shockwave's alt mode is a Cybertronian tank, making him probably the only known Transformer with an original Cybertronian alt mode
Dr. Meridian used to work in Philadelphia before he was sent to San Fransisco
Tarantulas is over 4 million years old. He doesn't seem to have joined the Decepticons out of agreeing with their fight, and also seems to resent his fellow Decepticons because they "failed to appreciate his inventions." He's also pretty inventive, as he's making inventions using junk and Cybertronian technology.
So colony worlds are apparently canon in Earthspark, as it's discussed that spacebridges were used to connect colony worlds across the universe, in order to find more energon. But from what the text seems to indicate, this was far into the past, as it's something Ancient Cybertronians did.
The last thing actually makes me wonder if we're getting colony worlds in a future season of ES, as "Ancient Cybertronian" might reference the 13 Primes, which also might mean the 13 Primes made those colonies, like it was in IDW.
OOO THATD BE COOL!
Because I too think we're going to get that, and I very super hope we get Caminus, Windblade, and Cityspeaking! How fucking cool would it be if one of the kids could Cityspeak
Makes sense that Shockwave is a Cybertronian tank, considering he out of everyone is often a Cybertronian tank?
A lot of this makes sense, and Tarantulas's part is what I've been running with too (though I feel like his past within the decepticons is. Interesting, given what Bumblebee had to say about him.)
