Anyone else have near-perfect executive function at work; but at home, have literally no energy or motivation to do anything except lie in a dark room, with something in or on your ears for several hours?

#It’s got to be the schedule keeping me on task at work #I love microdosing strict routines (not having an actual routine for the day; but having routines for small tasks #which piss me off if I can’t carry them out precisely the way I planned) #For instance: If I’m asked to paperclip a bunch of stuff together with multicolored paperclips of various sizes #I cannot just indiscriminately pick paperclips from the container because that is WRONG and ILLEGAL #The colors must fit the theme of the assignments; and the colors must alternate in a specific order #and the paperclips must all be the same size #If I’m asked to dump out and clean containers of writing utensils I am going to sort them by type and color #whether you like it or not #Black permanent markers have their own container in a different section from the blue permanent markers #Dry-erase markers are not to be mixed with permanent markers because they are easily confused and it is WRONG and ILLEGAL #Do not fuck with the system. It’s the only organizational skill I have and by fucking GOD I’m going to use it in EXCESS #I stuff and fill out envelopes the exact same way every time because if I do it any other way it is WRONG and ILLEGAL #The stamp always goes on last to minimize monetary waste if there is a mistake #Now you’d think my room is squeaky clean and organized because of how particular I am about these small tasks #Right? Right? #NO IT IS NOT. It looks like a bomb went off. Cleaning the room is a big task which cannot be accomplished within two hours #therefore I have discarded it as anything I need a routine for because it would take too long to come up with #and it is very hard for me to do things like that without instructions or a sense of consistency #So I simply don’t #“After five years the dust doesn’t get any worse” correct; but the mold certainly does #I am convinced half my problems with organization as a kid would have been solved if I just had a hamper #“We have a clothes chute; you don’t need a hamper” Maybe you don’t but I DO #I want one now; but I’m going to use it as incentive to get an apartment #because that’s another thing I need to smuggle and I have too much already

I wonder what it is about younger millennials that made us all dye our hair bright colors the second we got access to bleach powder. Cuz like, I feel like twenty years ago, it was super uncommon to see someone with blue hair, and now it feels uncommon to not see at least one person with a half-faded dye job every time you go out somewhere. So what changed? Was it just fortuitous timing? Did hair color technology just happen to improve as we were heading into adulthood? Or was there something specific that made us all seek it out? After all, we were the first generation to grow up with anime alongside western cartoons, right? Could the influence have been that great?

#i know fashion colors were uncommon because when i started dying my hair back in the 2010s i was limited to feria red and blue-black #MAYBE i could find splat in a drug store if i was lucky but beyond that i had to make a trip out to sally beauty for manic panic #i don’t even think the ion semi-permanent colors were around yet. if they were my store didn’t carry them #i feel like hair color has become more common due to greater demand i just can’t quite figure out what caused the demand #if applicable answer in the tags what anime character made you dye your hair bc that’s all i can figure lmao #mouth words

#oh my god #so i've been dying my hair half purple/red and half black for awhile now and i've been using box dye but it's been annoying bc i only use #half of it and you cant save box dye so i decided to order manic panic again because that's in jars so you can save it and i always like the #way it fades #but i didn't want t get the colour i nornally use bc it gets my hair pink when it's blonde but i dont want to wait that long for the red to #fade out so i got this darker purple one. and this is where i made some bad choices #all of the reviews were saying the colour was good but it will stain everything it touches. i figured that im special and that wont happen #to me so i ordered that and this like purpley blac one #turns out #i am not special #first off. within seconds of opening it i managed to drop the little like peel off cover from the purple one on the floor face down #then i went to push my glasses up with the back of my hand and a tiny bit of dye got on it #i literally cleaned it off within like ten sedconds but i think my clear plastic frames might be permanently stained pink #the counter is stained pink where it dripped and sat for probably less than ten seconds #which okay. thgen i rinsed it out and every part of my skin that the water touched after touching my hair is either slightly pink or #slightly blue depending on what colour it was #im pretty sure my ears and permanently stained #ive done a lot of stupid shit while dyeing my hair but this was probably the worst what the fuck #and i still have half the jars so im going to have to do this all again oh my god

Hey All,

I've been away for some time, as we've been working really hard on something quite exciting:

let me present to you the world's first ever global ocean drainage basin map that shows all permanent and temporary water flows on the planet.

This is quite big news, as far as I know this has never been done before. There are hundreds of hours of work in it (with the data + manual work as well) and it's quite a relief that they are all finished now.

But what is an ocean drainage basin map, I hear most of you asking? A couple of years ago I tried to find a map that shows which ocean does each of the world's rivers end up in. I was a bit surprised to see there is no map like that, so I just decided I'll make it myself - as usual :) Well, after realizing all the technical difficulties, I wasn't so surprised any more that it didn't exist. So yeah, it was quite a challenge but I am very happy with the result.

In addition to the global map I've created a set of 43 maps for different countries, states and continents, four versions for each: maps with white and black background, and a version for both with coloured oceans (aka polygons). Here's the global map with polygons:

I know from experience that maps can be great conversation starters, and I aim to make maps that are visually striking and can effectively deliver a message. With these ocean drainage basin maps the most important part was to make them easily understandable, so after you have seen one, the others all become effortless to interpret as well. Let me know how I did, I really appreciate any and all kinds of feedback.

Here are a few more from the set, I hope you too learn something new from them. I certainly did, and I am a geographer.

The greatest surprise with Europe is that its biggest river is all grey, as the Volga flows into the Caspian sea, therefore its basin counts as endorheic.

An endorheic basin is one which never reaches the ocean, mostly because it dries out in desert areas or ends up in lakes with no outflow. The biggest endorheic basin is the Caspian’s, but the area of the Great Basin in the US is also a good example of endorheic basins.

I love how the green of the Atlantic Ocean tangles together in the middle.

No, the dividing line is not at Cape Town, unfortunately.

I know these two colours weren’t the best choice for colourblind people and I sincerely apologize for that. I’ve been planning to make colourblind-friendly versions of my maps for ages now – still not sure when I get there, but I want you to know that it’s just moved up on my todo-list. A lot further up.

Minnesota is quite crazy with all that blue, right? Some other US states that are equally mind-blowing: North Dakota, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming. You can check them all out here.

Yes, most of the Peruvian waters drain into the Atlantic Ocean. Here are the maps of Peru, if you want to take a closer look.

Asia is amazingly colourful with lots of endorheic basins in the middle areas: deserts, the Himalayas and the Caspian sea are to blame. Also note how the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra are divided.

I mentioned earlier that I also made white versions of all maps. Here’s Australia with its vast deserts. If you're wondering about the weird lines in the middle: that’s the Simpson desert with its famous parallel sand dunes.

North America with white background and colourful oceans looks pretty neat, I think.

Finally, I made the drainage basin maps of the individual oceans: The Atlantic, the Arctic, the Indian and the Pacific. The Arctic is my favourite one.

I really hope you like my new maps, and that they will become as popular as my river basin maps. Those have already helped dozens of environmental NGOs to illustrate their important messages all around the world. It would be nice if these maps too could find their purpose.
