Personal Tech Support
Pairing: Donna Sheridan x Fem!reader
Summary: You upgrade a few items around the island. Making Donna have to relearn technology.
Word count: 993
Tumblr media
You've always been the tech-savvy one in your relationship with Donna. From the moment you first met, it was clear that while she had the charm, creativity, and charisma to run her small hotel on the Greek island of Kalokairi, she was a bit challenged when it came to modern technology. You, on the other hand, had a knack for all things electronic and mechanical. So, when you decided to surprise Donna by upgrading a few things around her hotel, you knew it would make her life easier, even if it did come with some comical challenges.
The hotel, though full of character and history, had its fair share of quirks. The plumbing was ancient, the electrical wiring was a patchwork of DIY solutions, and the Wi-Fi, well, it was more of a "Wi-Maybe." You couldn't stand to see your girlfriend struggle with these everyday issues, so you set out to modernize the place without compromising its rustic charm.
One of your first projects was installing a brand-new espresso machine in the hotel's café. You figured it would be a hit with the tourists who frequented the place. The sleek, stainless steel beast looked like it belonged in a spaceship compared to the old, sputtering coffee maker it replaced.
The morning after you installed it, Donna stood in front of the new espresso machine, her brow furrowed in confusion. "Love, how does this contraption work again?" she asked, casting you an adorable, bewildered look. You chuckled, walking over to her. "Darling, I've shown you this at least five times. You press this button for a regular espresso, this one for a cappuccino, and this one for a latte."
Donna blinked at the array of buttons. "But which one makes a regular coffee?"
You couldn't help but grin. "The one that says 'espresso,' Donna. It's the first button."
She nodded, clearly trying to remember. "Right, the 'ex-press-oh.' Got it."
You watched as she carefully pressed the button, and the machine whirred to life, making all sorts of futuristic noises. Espresso poured into the cup, and Donna beamed triumphantly as if she'd just solved a complex puzzle. You couldn't contain your laughter. "Don't worry, love," you said, ruffling her hair affectionately. "You'll get the hang of it."
Over the next few days, you introduced more upgrades. You replaced the old landline phone with a sleek, cordless model. You set up a modern sound system in the hotel's courtyard for music during the evening gatherings. You even convinced Donna to ditch the ancient cash register in favor of a user-friendly tablet-based point-of-sale system. With each new addition, Donna's confusion seemed to grow. She'd call you over for help, even when you were just in the next room. "Sweetie, can you come here? I can't get the music to play."
You'd sigh with faux exasperation, setting down whatever you were doing to assist her. "Donna, remember the app? You just select the playlist and press play."
"I know, I know," she'd reply, rolling her eyes at her own forgetfulness. "But it's all so...fiddly."
As much as you teased her about it, you couldn't deny the joy of watching her adapt to these newfangled devices. It was endearing to see her navigate the touch screen of the tablet POS system with determined concentration, making transactions for guests with a sense of accomplishment.
One evening, as you both sat on the terrace overlooking the azure sea, Donna sipped a glass of wine and turned to you with a mischievous glint in her eye. "You know," she began, "I think you're secretly enjoying being my personal tech support." You chuckled, tracing circles on her hand. "Well, it does give me the chance to hold you close and whisper sweet nothings in your ear."
She laughed, leaning in to steal a quick kiss. "You do have a point there."
As the summer days passed, Donna's tech anxiety began to wane. She'd proudly tell you about how she had successfully made a latte without any assistance, or how she'd mastered the art of Bluetooth pairing for the speakers. She even dared to experiment with the espresso machine, trying her hand at creating intricate latte art.
One morning, you walked into the café to find her diligently working behind the counter. She held up a cup with a heart-shaped design in the foam. "Look at this, my love!" she exclaimed. "I made a heart!" You couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm. "That's fantastic, Donna! You're becoming a pro."
But just as you thought her tech-related troubles were a thing of the past, a new challenge emerged. You had upgraded the hotel's Wi-Fi, and while it was now faster and more reliable, Donna couldn't quite grasp the concept of network names and passwords.
"Darling," she called from the reception desk, "what's the code for the Wee-Fee again?"
You sighed, resigning yourself to another round of explanations. "It's Wi-Fi, Donna. And the password is 'KalokairiSunshine.'"
"Right, right," she replied with a nod, jotting it down on a piece of paper. You couldn't resist teasing her. "Donna, I've told you the password at least ten times. It's 'KalokairiSunshine,' like our beautiful island."
She laughed, folding her arms and giving you an impish look. "Well, maybe I just enjoy hearing you say it, my tech genius."
You shook your head in mock exasperation, but deep down, you cherished these moments. Donna's quirks, her playful nature, and her ability to embrace change, even if it came with a learning curve, were all part of what made her so special to you.
As the sun set over Kalokairi, casting a warm, golden glow across the hotel, you couldn't help but feel grateful for the chance to be Donna's partner in both love and technology. In your eyes, she was the heart and soul of the hotel, and you were more than happy to be the one who helped her keep it running, one espresso at a time.

TURNER, Maine — A Turner woman is accused of buying dozens of guns over several months in 2022 on behalf of a California crime gang.
Jennifer Scruggs, 35 was arrested Monday on 10 charges of making false written statements to three different licensed firearms dealers. Federal prosecutors filed one charge per purchase made between March 20 and June 17, 2022.
Scruggs allegedly bought 55 firearms over those 10 transactions at gun shops in Turner, Auburn and Whitefield.
According to the federal criminal complaint, two of the weapons were recovered by Los Angeles police in August 2022 and February 2023. Serial numbers for each weapon confirmed that the guns were bought by Scruggs in Maine.
Court documents describe a conversation between Scruggs and investigators with Lewiston police and a local ATF officer in mid-August 2022. Scruggs justified the number of guns by saying she did not trust banks and felt that buying firearms was a better long-term value than keeping cash in a bank.
She also cited medical concerns, including cancer, which prompted her to buy the firearms to leave to her son, should she die.
She told the investigators that while two of the guns were stolen by people staying with her, the other 53 were stored at her brother's home.
Her brother, however, reportedly told the investigators that not only had he never been asked to store weapons, but that he and Scruggs did not have a good relationship, due in part to her alleged history of drug use.
In another conversation with the officers in October, Scruggs admitted she had bought the weapons for two other people, who had said they were outfitting a gang in California.
Buying guns for other people, also known as a straw purchase, is illegal. Gun buyers must declare that they are obtaining the weapons for their own use.
After getting a warrant to access Scruggs' Facebook Messenger account, investigators found conversations with several unidentified people, one of which included photos taken by Scruggs at one of the Maine gun shops, with the person then telling her which ones to buy.
A photo sent on June 14 showed cash on the sales counter inside G3 Firearms in Auburn.
A message Scruggs sent later that same day read, "they're all yours after this lol," and explaining she had to get a hunting and fishing license in order to provide the firearms dealer a government-printed document with her current address.
The criminal complaint also details multiple conversations in which Scruggs described driving to California and how she met a gang boss and its alleged "cartel" contact.
Investigators used License Plate Reader machines to track a car rented in June from Portland to Los Angeles. The person who rented the car was the same person who Scruggs was messaging about the gun purchases on Facebook Messenger.
A Browning pistol Scruggs bought in May 2022 in Auburn was recovered by Los Angeles police on Aug. 30, while they investigated a suspect who reportedly fired into the air multiple times while yelling the name of a local gang.
On Feb. 18, 2023, Los Angeles police also seized a Glock purchased by Scruggs on June 2022 in Turner.
If convicted on the ten counts of making a false statement during the acquisition of a firearm from a licensed dealer, Scruggs faces up to ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
She is now being held without bail until a hearing can be held to determine if she would qualify for release. The U.S. Attorney's Office has requested that she remain in custody during her trial.

Chapter 3. Economy
Meeting our needs without keeping count
Capitalism has produced some amazing gadgets, but the military and the police are almost always the first to use new technologies, and often the wealthiest people are the only ones who benefit from them. Capitalism has produced undreamed of wealth, but it is hoarded by parasites who did not produce it and who lord over the slaves and wage laborers who created it. Competition may seem to be a useful principle for encouraging efficiency — but efficiency for what purpose? Beneath the mythology it has created, capitalism is not actually a competitive system. Workers are divided and played against each other, while the elite cooperate to maintain their subjection. The wealthy may compete for bigger slices of the pie, but they regularly take up arms together to ensure that every day the pie is baked and brought to their table. When capitalism was still a new phenomenon, one could describe it more honestly, without being confused by decades of propaganda about its supposed virtues: Abraham Lincoln, hardly an anarchist, could see clearly enough that “capitalists generally act harmoniously and in concert to fleece the people.”
Capitalism has failed horribly at meeting people’s needs and arranging a fair distribution of goods. Throughout the world, millions die from treatable diseases because they cannot afford the medicine that would save them, and people starve to death while their countries export cash crops. Under capitalism, everything is for sale — culture is a commodity that can be manipulated to sell lingerie or skin cream, nature is a resource to be sucked dry and destroyed for profit. People must sell their time and energy to the owning class in order to buy back a fraction of what they produce. This is a deeply rooted system that shapes our values and relationships and defies most attempts to abolish it. The socialist revolutions in the USSR and China did not go deep enough: as they never fully abolished capitalism, it reemerged, stronger than before. Many anarchist attempts have not gone deep enough either; capitalism may well have resurfaced in these experiments if hostile governments had not crushed them first.
Power and alienation must be pursued to their roots. It is not enough for the workers to own their factories collectively if they are controlled by managers and the work still reduces them to machines. Alienation is not simply the absence of legal ownership of the means and fruits of production — it is the lack of control over one’s relationship with the world. Worker ownership of a factory is meaningless if it is still administered by others on their behalf. The workers must organize themselves and control the factory directly. And even if they control the factory directly, alienation persists where the broader economic relationships, the factory itself, dictates the form their labor takes. Can a person truly be free working on an assembly line, denied creativity and treated as a machine? The form of work itself must change, so that people can pursue the skills and activities that give them joy.
The separation of work from other human activities is one of the roots of alienation. Production itself becomes a sort of obsession that justifies exploiting people or destroying the environment for the sake of efficiency. If we view happiness as a human need no less than food and clothing, then the division between productive and nonproductive activity, between work and play, melts away. The squatting movement in Barcelona and the gift economies of many indigenous societies provide examples of the blurring of work and play.
In a free society, exchange is simply a symbolic assurance that everyone is contributing to the common resources — people don’t hoard resources or take advantage of others, because they have to give in order to receive. But exchange can present problems by attaching a quantitative value to every object and experience, thus stripping them of their subjective value.
Where once an ice cream cone was worth a delicious ten minutes of finger licking goodness in the sun, and a book was worth several afternoons of enjoyment and reflection and possibly even life-changing insight, after these goods are assessed according to the regime of exchange, an ice cream cone is worth a fourth of a book. Further into this process, to make the exchanges more efficient, while consequently fixing the quantitative value as inherent rather than comparative, an ice cream cone is worth one unit of currency and a book four units of currency. The monetary value replaces the subjective value of the object — the pleasure people find in it. On one hand, people and their desires are taken out of the equation, while on the other hand all values — pleasure, usefulness, inspiration — are absorbed into a quantitative value, and money itself becomes a symbol for all these other values.
In effect, possessing money comes to symbolize having access to enjoyment or the fulfillment of a desire; but money, by affixing a quantitative value, robs objects of the sense of fulfillment they might bring, because humans cannot experience quantitative, abstract value. In eating an ice cream cone, the pleasure is in the act — but in buying a commodity, the pleasure is in the purchase, in the magical moment that an abstract value is transformed into a tangible possession. Money exerts such a powerful influence on notions of value that consumption itself is always anticlimactic: once the commodity is purchased, it loses its value, especially as people come to prioritize abstract value over subjective value. Furthermore, having purchased it, you lose money, and your total holdings of symbolic value decrease — hence the nagging feeling of guilt that accompanies spending money.
In addition to alienation, exchange creates power-over: if one person accumulates more quantitative value, they have accrued the right to a greater portion of the community’s resources. Systems of exchange and currency, like the barter network in Argentina or the coupon system for purchasing goods in parts of anarchist Spain, rely on customs and social arrangements to prevent the reemergence of capitalism. For example, a gift economy could function at a local level, with exchange used only for regional trade. People could deliberately set up work environments that encourage personal development, creativity, fun, and self-organization, while decentralized federations of such workplaces could award one another with coupons for the goods they produce so each person has access to the wealth created by all.
But it is a worthwhile challenge to do away with exchange and currency altogether. Within free stores or Freecycle, the symbolic assurance provided by exchange or barter is unnecessary. The assurance that everyone will contribute to the common wealth springs from the culture of the spaces themselves. As a participant, you express the desire to give and to receive, and your inclusion in the social space increases as you carry out both of these activities. In such contexts, giving pleases a person just as much as receiving.
The world is bountiful enough to provide for everyone’s needs. Scarcity is a dangerous illusion that functions as a self-fulfilling prophesy. Once people stop giving and begin hoarding, collective wealth declines. If we overcome the fear of scarcity, scarcity itself disappears. Common resources will be bountiful if everyone shares and contributes, or even if most people do. People like to be active, to create and improve things. If people are ensured access to common resources and spared the poverty of wage slavery, they will create plenty of the things they need and that give them pleasure, as well as the infrastructure required to make and distribute these things.

AC-a-a-a-a-B, screamed the goat
again, we see the police PR machine & a complicit press present the innocuous, bumbling barney fife ‘we’re here to protect’ trope.
the ubiquitous coverage of the screaming goat has reached an international audience [if the BBC counts in that regard].
it reminds me of the ‘ah, look! cops dance with ice cream’ which should have been ‘two scoops of fuck you.’
__
one of the more recent and disgusting examples of police PR/media collaboration has been the ‘viral’ PR: ‘Police dog in Wyandotte accused of stealing fellow officer's lunch.’
this ‘story’ originated from a facebook post by the Wyandotte PD, with an accompanying image edited to appear as a mugshot of a black police dog – named ‘Officer ICE.’
however, i found this posted on a ABC affiliate news website, on the same page as an article about Tyre Nichols’ family pleading for justice and calls for the bodycam footage to be released.
Tumblr media
__
the timing and content of these press releases is no coincidence.
on august 1 2016, within weeks after the series of murders by police of Delrawn Small, Alton Sterling and Philando Castille, the cop PR machine rolled out #copsgiveouticecream.
one particular headline — ‘these cops pranked drivers by giving them ice cream instead of tickets’ — fell under the ‘feel good’ category, much like ‘officer ice’ and case of the screaming goat.
Tumblr media
text beneath the image reads: "You can see the sense of relief when the officers explain this ‘violation’ to the anxious drivers who all got a big laugh out of it."
i can see intimidation, fear, injustice…
‘no cameras!’ — nor accountability
social media has changed the playing field in the propaganda war for policing. like in the instances of feel good news, cops only like social media when it works in their favor.
the fbi has warned about ‘cop baiting,’ ‘viral attack’ and potential liability. [Social Media and Law Enforcement: Potential Risks; leb.fbi.gov]
unsurprisingly, this particular article expresses an overarching sense of fear and need for control:
Empowered by social media, cop baiting presents a crisis for law enforcement. Questionable videos of police officers are popular on sites, such as YouTube, and can be financially rewarding to malefactors who file claims or lawsuits. For some individuals, a citation or jail time is worthwhile if a cash payoff results. Cop baiting could become so common that officers may not know whether they are facing a situation that is legitimate, staged, or exaggerated for someone else’s benefit. This puts officers’ personal and professional well-being at stake.
so strange, their fave defense for surveillance [search, et al] isn’t mentioned: ‘if you’re not doing anything wrong, why worry…’
copspeak + providing those good feels
i posted the link back in 2016, but i find it’s still relevant:
Copspeak: 7 Ways Journalists Use Police Jargon to Obscure the Truth [fair.org]
FAIR’s CopSpeak series is good for examining the media-PR symbiosis:
“The linguistic gymnastics needed to report on police violence without calling up images of police violence is a thing of semantic wonder."
privatization of public policy has helped drive much of this. [Meet the Company That Writes the Policies That Protect Cops; motherjones.com], [Police Policy For Sale; theappeal.org/].
the lexipol rabbithole can take you through an insular cop-cult[-ure] & convenient shopping for all of your militarized force needs.
‘Police Chief Magazine’ run by a 503c lobbying group, International Association of Chiefs of Police [IACP], reveals some PR tactics in ‘Media Coverage: When It Doesn’t Work Well… and When It Does’ [policechiefmagazine.org]
The Secrets to Success “It is the role of the public information office to push the positive stories to the media,” says Sergeant John Roth, Glendale Police Department’s public information officer (PIO). His office publicizes the department’s Coffee with a Cop events, as well as other newsworthy items, such as when major cases are solved. …
it is imperative to develop a rapport with media representatives. He makes a point of meeting with them and establishing relationships built on trust.
‘trust us,’ said at gunpoint…
[btw, national police week 2023 has begun]

“So, like, is this it?” Jeff gave the small, watch looking item on the table a suspicious look. “It’s just an Apple watch.”
“Yes, this is it,” Amy replied, rolling her eyes at the man. “And its actually Android based, but that’s beside the point. Do you want the thing or not?”
“How do I even know this actually works? Let’s be real,” he commented as he started to reach for it, “we both know there’s no such thing as a time machine.”
“First of all, why are you here if you don’t believe me?” She snatched the watch up before he could touch it. “Second of all,” she huffed, “that’s a fair question. Come on, follow me, and I’ll prove it to you.”
He groused but followed her a few feet until they were out of the line of sight from where they were. “To travel with more than yourself, the other person has to be touching you, and they need to be secure because it would be very bad if they disconnect from you mid-timestream, so wrap your arm securely around my arm, okay?”
He rolled his eyes but followed directions and then watched her input information into the watch face. She set the watch for 2 minutes in the past with a command for returning thereafter and hit enter. Suddenly, everything around them distorted into a sci-fi looking blur of color, feel, smell, and sound. Just as quickly as it started, the effect ended, and he looked up to see himself and Amy standing a few feet away having the conversation they had JUST had about the watch. “What…?”
“Shh! Be quiet. If they see us, it’ll create a time paradox,” she chastised him.
“Okay,” he whispered, “but what happens when they start walking this way?”
“We’ll pop back to our present before they ever see us, but keep holding onto me. You don’t want to be left here.”
A moment later, they did, indeed, pop back into their present. Jeff awkwardly released her arm to lean against the nearby wall. He felt dazed and shocked. It was real. It was actually real. “Holy fuck!” He suddenly yelled as his brain caught up, “THAT’S A GOD DAMMED TIME MACHINE!”
“Yes,” she deadpanned as she walked back to the table. “I know. As I said in the ad: For Sale – Time Machine, slightly used.”
Jeff followed as he began to stutter, “I don’t… why would you… HOW…?”
She sat down with a plop at the table and let out a long sigh. “Don’t ask. You wouldn’t believe me if I told you, and all I’m asking from you for you to take this off my hands is for you to give me three hundred in cash so I can get a real Android watch and promise you’ll never try to go back to make a situation that happened to yourself better.”
“No changing history, huh?” He cleared his throat as he tried to really consider what was being offered to him.
“No,” she glared at him, “I said don’t try to change YOUR personal history. Trust me, you don’t want to do it. It’ll only end in tears.”
He nodded solemnly. Reaching into his back pocket, he pulled out an envelop full of cash to hand to her. “I can do that.” Hesitating for a second, he added, “Are you speaking from personal experience?”
She groaned but took the envelope and opened it to count the money. “So, I had an helped created something that went really poorly and ended up putting me in a bad spot.” She finished counting the money, nodded to herself, and handed the watch over. “I went back in time and sent myself a message that gave instructions on how to avoid that, which my younger self, surprisingly, followed.” Shaking her head, she grabbed her purse and began heading for the exit.
“Well, what happened?” He looked as confused as he sounded.
“Turns out, that was an equally dumb thing to do. Honestly, I should’ve never tried to do it to begin with; it was a stupid idea, but hindsight is 20/20, right? Once I got the time machine, I quickly learned going back in time to try to fix the new issue I’d created just made it worse. Anything I could think of that wouldn’t cause a time paradox but might fix the problem always came out the same because, back then, I was a self-entitled asshole.”
Jeff stared at her. “W-what did you do?”
She allowed a humorless, self-loathing, chuckle leave her throat, “You know that Kylie Jenner Pepsi commercial?”
He blinked blankly at her for a second as his brain loaded the commercial. “The one that told us all we needed was Pepsi to solve racism?”
“Yeah, that,” she replied with a glare. “Well, that was my idea.”
“That was YOUR idea? That commercial was objectionably TERRIBLE. What did you do before you changed it that was WORSE than that?”
She broke eye contact with him, glancing around and then out into nothing. “Before her, it was Justin Bieber,” she winced.
“No,” he said with a gasp.
“And before him, it was Kim K.”
“Are you SERIOUS right now?”
She nodded. “Before him, it was Paris Hilton.”
“Oh my god, woman.”
“I know,” she groaned. “Before her, the first one was,”
“No,” Jeff held a hand. “Stop.”
“I have to,” she sadly replied. “Before her, it was Snooki.”
“Get out,” Jeff replied in disgust. “Just... get out.”
“Yeah,” Amy said softly as she pushed open the door to leave. “I deserved that.”

Top Success Strategies for Choose the Right Money Handling Equipment
Ever wondered how banks process millions of dollars efficiently? Or how casinos keep track of mountains of chips and coins? The answer lies in a world of specialized equipment designed for one crucial task: handling money securely and efficiently. This beginner's guide will equip you with the knowledge to navigate the fascinating world of money handling equipment.
Let us start with the most basic category: counting. Cash counters, both automated and manual, are workhorses in any business that deals with physical cash. These machines quickly and accurately determine the total amount of currency in a drawer, saving cashiers countless hours of tedious counting.  Furthermore, some advanced counters can even detect counterfeits, adding an extra layer of security.
Coin handling requires a different approach. Coin sorters separate mixed coins by denomination, making it simple to organize and deposit them.  These machines often work in tandem with coin counters, providing a one-stop shop for processing all your loose change.
Security is paramount when dealing with cash. Counterfeit detectors use ultraviolet (UV) light and magnetic sensors to identify fake bills.  These devices provide peace of mind for businesses of all sizes, protecting them from financial losses.
For businesses that handle large volumes of cash, cash recyclers are a game-changer. These sophisticated machines not only count and sort bills but can also dispense them to customers or staff. This eliminates the need for manual cash drawers, improving efficiency and reducing the risk of human error.  Imagine a bank teller no longer needing to count out stacks of bills – the cash recycler handles it all with a simple command.
Cash registers are another essential piece of money handling equipment. These versatile machines not only calculate transactions but can also print receipts, track inventory, and even manage customer databases.  Modern cash registers are often integrated with point-of-sale (POS) systems, offering a comprehensive solution for managing your business finances.
Beyond these core categories, there is a wealth of specialized equipment available.  For instance, bill dispensers are perfect for high-volume retail environments, while check scanners can expedite check processing.  Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) are a familiar sight, allowing customers to access their accounts 24/7.
Choosing the right money handling equipment depends on your specific needs. Consider the volume of cash you handle, the types of transactions you process, and your budget.  Security features are also crucial, ensuring your business is protected from fraud.
By understanding the different types of money handling equipment available, you can streamline your cash flow processes, improve efficiency, and enhance security.  So, the next time you see a cashier effortlessly counting bills or a customer withdrawing cash from an ATM, remember the silent heroes behind the scenes: the remarkable machines that keep our financial world running smoothly.

Mastering Inventory Control: A Comprehensive Guide
Tumblr media
Inventory control is a critical aspect of any business, whether you run a small retail shop, a bustling e-commerce store, or a large manufacturing plant. Effective inventory management can significantly impact your bottom line, customer satisfaction, and overall operational efficiency. In this comprehensive guide, we'll delve into the world of inventory control, covering its importance, key principles, best practices, and the latest trends in the field.
Chapter 1: Understanding Inventory Control
Inventory control, also known as inventory management, refers to the process of overseeing, organizing, and optimizing a company's inventory. This includes all the products, raw materials, and goods a business holds for various purposes, such as production, resale, or daily operations. The primary objectives of inventory control are to:
Ensure product availability to meet customer demand.
Minimize carrying costs associated with storing excess inventory.
Prevent stockouts and associated loss of sales.
Optimize cash flow by reducing tied-up capital in unsold inventory.
Chapter 2: Types of Inventory
Before diving into inventory control strategies, it's essential to understand the different types of inventory your business may have. The primary inventory categories include:
Raw Materials: The basic materials used in manufacturing or production processes.
Work-in-Progress (WIP): Partially finished products in the production pipeline.
Finished Goods: Completed products ready for sale or distribution.
MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) Inventory: Items used to maintain and repair equipment and facilities.
Safety Stock: Extra inventory held to mitigate unexpected demand fluctuations or supply chain disruptions.
Deadstock: Products that are obsolete, expired, or no longer in demand.
Chapter 3: Key Principles of Inventory Control
To implement effective inventory control, consider the following key principles:
ABC Analysis: Categorize items based on their value, with A-items being the most valuable and C-items the least. Allocate more time and resources to managing A-items.
Just-in-Time (JIT) Inventory: Implement a system where inventory is ordered and received just in time for production or sale, minimizing carrying costs.
Economic Order Quantity (EOQ): Calculate the optimal order quantity to minimize total inventory costs, including ordering and holding costs.
Safety Stock: Maintain a buffer of safety stock to prevent stockouts during unexpected demand spikes or supply chain disruptions.
FIFO and LIFO: Choose between First-In-First-Out (FIFO) and Last-In-First-Out (LIFO) methods for inventory valuation, depending on your industry and tax regulations.
Chapter 4: Best Practices for Effective Inventory Control
To excel in inventory control, businesses should follow these best practices:
Regularly Conduct Audits: Perform physical inventory counts to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
Embrace Technology: Implement inventory management software and barcode systems for real-time tracking and better data analysis.
Forecast Demand: Use historical data and market trends to predict future demand accurately.
Supplier Collaboration: Build strong relationships with suppliers to enhance lead times and reduce costs.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Encourage communication between departments, including sales, marketing, and production, to improve demand forecasting.
Chapter 5: Inventory Control Trends
The world of inventory control is continually evolving. Stay ahead of the curve by considering these emerging trends:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning: AI-powered algorithms can analyze vast amounts of data to optimize inventory levels, demand forecasting, and supply chain efficiency.
Data Analytics: Advanced analytics tools provide deeper insights into inventory performance, enabling better decision-making.
Omni-Channel Inventory Management: With the growth of e-commerce, businesses must synchronize inventory across multiple sales channels to meet customer expectations.

The Future of Snacking: Embracing Cashless Vending Machines
Tumblr media
In a world where convenience and technology are intertwining more than ever, cashless vending machines are emerging as a game-changer in the way we access our favorite snacks and beverages. These innovative machines have revolutionized the vending industry by offering a seamless and secure payment experience, enhancing convenience for both customers and vending operators. In this article, we'll delve into the world of cashless vending machine, exploring their benefits, how they work, and why they're shaping the future of snacking.
The Evolution of Vending Machines
Vending machines have come a long way since their inception. What once required exact change and limited options has evolved into a sophisticated and customer-centric experience. Cashless vending machines are at the forefront of this evolution, introducing a variety of advantages that cater to our modern, fast-paced lifestyles.
The Advantages of Cashless Vending Machines
Convenience: Toss aside the need for physical cash. With cashless vending machines, all you need is your smartphone, credit/debit card, or a mobile payment app. This convenience eliminates the hassle of finding exact change or visiting an ATM before you can enjoy your favorite snack.
Speedy Transactions: Cashless payments are lightning-fast, ensuring you get what you want without any unnecessary delays. The transaction process is streamlined, making it ideal for busy environments where every second counts.
Security: Traditional vending machines often carry the risk of coin jams or malfunctions. Cashless vending reduces the chances of these issues and offers enhanced security for both customers and vending operators. Your personal information is encrypted, providing peace of mind during transactions.
Wider Payment Options: Cashless vending machines accept a variety of payment methods, including credit/debit cards, mobile wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay), and even contactless payment methods like RFID or NFC technology.
Real-Time Monitoring: Vending operators can remotely monitor sales, inventory levels, and machine performance, thanks to the connected nature of cashless vending machines. This data-driven approach allows for better inventory management and faster restocking.
How Cashless Vending Machines Work
Choose Your Item: Select your desired snack or beverage from the machine's intuitive touch screen interface.
Payment: Use your credit/debit card or mobile wallet to make the payment. Some machines also support contactless payment methods.
Confirmation: Once the payment is processed, the machine dispenses your chosen item. A digital receipt might be provided for your records.
Enjoy: Indulge in your snack or beverage of choice with minimal effort and maximum satisfaction.
Embracing the Future
The rise of cashless vending machines is a testament to the integration of technology into our daily lives. As we become more accustomed to digital payments and seamless transactions, the convenience of cashless vending machines becomes increasingly appealing. Moreover, these machines are not limited to traditional snacks and beverages; they can also provide a platform for healthier food and drink options, meeting the evolving preferences of health-conscious consumers.

Arcade Paradise Review
Arcade Paradise (Multiplatform, played on Series X via Game Pass)
TL;DR: This is a great game that brings on some heavy nostalgia for arcades, especially in the '90s. I quite enjoyed my time working through the story, and intend to keep it on my console till it leaves Game Pass so I can go in and get a fresh hit now and then.
Lit by glowing neon tubes and the many CRT screens on the game cabinets, luring in players to dump their quarters into the Insert Coin slots, arcades conjure up different types of nostalgia for different generations. Arcade Paradise is set in the late 90s, just as home game consoles and PCs came into their own and started their inevitable march to domination of the gaming market.
You assume the role of Ashley, a recent college dropout whose father owns a laundromat he tasks you with running in order to "teach you good business sense", or something. In the back of the building there's a small arcade. In this semi-Life/Work sim, you start out by doing laundry loads left by people, thus earning the money that keeps the business rolling. The arcade games are a small side income, mostly neglected. Ashley gets the bright idea to expand the offerings in the "arcade", and slowly (with the help of your sister who works for the city) you also begin to expand the space the arcade takes up in the building. You're doing this under your father's nose, which leads to predictable issues.
The story in Arcade Paradise is fairly decent, albeit mostly told through answering machine messages, emails, and online chats. The meat of this game though, once you get the arcade expanded a bit, is the plethora of "mini" games the arcade provides. As someone old enough to recall the original game boom in the 80s (foggily anyway, as I was born in '76), it's pretty cool to see games like Shuttlecocks (Pong clone) or Communists From Mars (Missile Command clone). But I really remember The Return of the Arcade in the 90s. Which is well represented here with games like Cyber Dance (DDR clone) or Knuckles and Knees (Streets of Rage clone). These aren't just single level knock offs, either. There are some pretty deep experiences in these games. Knuckles and Knees even goes super meta, featuring an arcade in the first level that you can enter.. and play the games in!
I also really enjoyed how they game-ified the chores. Getting "high scores" for cleaning the toilet or tossing the garbage into the dumpster (in the form of higher cash rewards) was amusing and a fun mechanic. The upgrades purchased with the money earned completing the "To-Do" list goals were nice quality of life bonuses. Speaking of QoL, I also appreciated the accessibility options such as changing "hold <button> to perform <action>" to "toggle <button> to perform <action>".
The soundtrack provided mostly by the jukebox (once you buy it) is also excellent, featuring some really good newer music that definitely would have fit in perfectly had it been released in the 90s. I was also struck by the ambient sound while standing in the arcade, as the various bleeps and bloops are obviously from actual arcade games I would hear while standing in actual arcades .. let's just say back then so I don't have to count how many years ago that was again.
I absolutely recommend this game to anyone with a Game Pass sub. At $20 dollars on most platforms (ProTip, at the time this posted it's currently on sale for $13 on GoG) it's certainly worth the price of admission. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it, and I'm going to leave it installed on my console till it exits Game Pass so I can keep going back in and getting a fresh hit of nostalgia from time to time.

Day 8 of Building Elsa’s Ice Palace
I’m so frustrated. I’m sleeping too much but not enough. Since I can’t get the uninterrupted 7-8 hours of sleep, I sleep for longer and will conk out for almost 12 hours. But it’s not full “sleep”, just like a bunch of naps strung together, so I’m still tired and don’t feel refreshed or anything. It’s really frustrating and I hope I can get some answers soon.
I scheduled a home inspection for next week, hopefully that will be good enough as far as time goes. You need to get everything done within a certain time period according to the contract and for everything to close properly. Will put it down in my planner just in case.
I had to gulp down a shot of coffee to try to keep myself awake for this. I just need a homeowners insurance quote, then I should have all my stuff in order for the house. After that it will be a case of just biding my time and trying not to buy anything until the sale closes lol.
Whoops, wait, spoke too soon, I have the official documents I need to send to my lender. Pic of my driver’s license, and then my pay stubs. Got a lot to do before I relax lol.
Thankfully they don’t really take too long, just a few minutes. Answering all the questions for the home insurance quote takes longer. I’ll hear back from the people by tomorrow at least.
For now I can jut finish up a couple chores and supervise the pups. They’re warming up to people, so look like our socialization strategies are working.
I spent the day finishing up chores, and shopping for tableware and dinner sets online. I have a good theme going if I want to stick with the Elsa Ice Palace theme, but I’ll need something different if I end up going with the “white royal” theme. I need to appeal to a wider audience for this particular venture, right? Plus it needs to be something that looks good year round. Maybe I need something “neutral”, furniture and accessories that kind of work for both ideas.
I found the absolute perfect table set that works for both ideas- but it’s almost $2000 and I can’t make any major purchases before the close of the house. I wouldn’t mind, but there’s a limited quantity and only a few left. I’ll just have to keep my fingers crossed and hope they’ll still be there by next month.
Today I spent hours shopping and bookmarking. I’m so picky for what I want and it’s hard to find the exact taste and style I’m looking for. But I found the major things I want for the main floor of the house- bed frame, the dining table and chairs, a couch and a TV stand. I haven’t even looked at washing and drying machines and fridges yet.
I can’t buy all the furniture I want right away, because furniture is expensive, but I can at least get the limited quantity ones- or those that are on sale or clearance, before they sell out. Stuff that will make the house GORGEOUS and make people WANT to stay there, you know?
But of course, that’s only assuming people will be traveling to my area anyway. It’s not a super popular city, and travel is expensive nowadays. Maybe I’m too late to cash in on the hospitality hype lol.
Well, at least my house will be pretty and I can take nice pictures. That’ll count for something, I’m sure.

Amazing Ideas for Creating a Stunning Retail Space
Retail shopping now means several things to the modern customer: spacious, refreshing, recommendable, trustworthy, and affordable. A retail location is more than just a store where you can buy branded merchandise. It is designed primarily for retailers to display their merchandise, attract customers, and enhance sales.
Everyone has a specific function to play in the establishment of a retail environment. To create a faultless shop, your interior designer, architect, and shelve management systems&custom fitting solutions provider must all be in sync.
Tumblr media
Retail Spaces: The Ultimate Shopping Experience
Since the birth of civilisation, there have been retail stores. Despite the growing popularity of online shopping platforms, people still prefer to buy in a physical store. According to recent polls, 61 percent of Gen-Zs prefer to shop at retail stores. This preference is primarily due to the fact that brick-and-mortar establishments offer a different purchase experience.
A beautifully designed retail space with quality and shelve management systems & custom fitting solutions should offer everything a consumer desires, from simple floor designs and aesthetically appealing displays to strategic lighting and more. As a result, establishing an appealing retail environment for your customers and window shoppers is critical.
However, if you're having trouble with retail design, we can help. Our goal is to give you some ideas for creating eye-catching retail interiors so that your business layout is the best in the neighbourhood.
How to Create a Wonderland in Your Retail Space
1. Determine the best floor plan.
The method you choose will determine the flow of the entire shop, including traffic entering and exiting. It is a necessary component of any shop, regardless of size. The ideal floor plan will allow you to maximise the available space. It will put everything in your company in its right place, including:
Display racks and shelves
Tables for displaying mannequins
Counting machines
As a result, you must consider factors such as your facility's square footage, your target demographic, and the products you offer.
2. Start with the lighting fixtures.
Lighting is a functional and aesthetically pleasing aspect that should not be disregarded or undervalued. Customers are unlikely to enter a shop that is gloomy and depressing, whether it is lit by natural light or not. However, there is a contrast between beautiful lighting and just flooding the space with bright lights.
Consider the store's atmosphere as well as your retail goals when designing the lighting. However, remember the lighting golden rule: all elevation changes, floors, displays, and instructions must be visible at all times.
3. Make good use of indicators.
Signage in retail enterprises is almost unheard of. Furthermore, due to a set of do's and don'ts to follow, the Covid-19 epidemic has made signage mandatory. Customers will greatly benefit from clear signage. It might explain store regulations, give directions, and help guide safe behaviour.
Install conspicuous, eye-catching signage to draw attention to new arrivals, promotional offers, and discounts. Place a conspicuous signboard over your cash register stating the location of the bathrooms and trial rooms. Well-placed signage enhances your customers' overall shopping experience. Customers can more easily find workers when signage identifies their position.
4. Incorporate visual breaks
Customers may skip over your things if your store has the same fixtures or aisles. Create visual breaks along long aisles to draw shoppers' attention to your merchandise. This can be accomplished through the use of eye-catching placards or exhibits. To entice customers, many supermarkets, especially those with a large number of aisles, frequently erect massive, enticing displays at the end of their aisles.
Make accessibility a top focus.
Whether you own a large or small business, your retail area should exude a welcoming and fully functional ambiance. To accomplish this, accessibility is required. Don't be tempted to overload the entire floor with exhibits. Keep in mind that your customers will need plenty of space to move around with their shopping bags and children.
Tumblr media
Gaps can be created by doing the following:
Eliminating all clutter
Placing advertisements on exhibition booths or walls
Including front-door ramps or stairs
Using illumination to light up gloomy areas and spaces
Providing sufficient access and exit routes
Organizing the space based on the goods
Using long-lasting and shelve management systems & custom fitting solutions
6. Experiment with your displays.
Your shop is a blank canvas. So make the most of it. Make your exhibits large and eye-catching. When multiple businesses compete for the same attention, extravagant methods are usually required to capture it. Choose theme-based displays to incorporate larger design elements. Use life-size fixtures and installations to create an unforgettable shopping experience.
7. Double-check that your layout is appropriately aligned.
A wise merchant would always put the best and most appealing items near the store's entrance. Aside from that, thorough observation of your customers will help you decide on the finest layout for your shop. Make certain that the design directs them to the best products.
Your retail store serves as a visual representation of your company. Your company's success is determined on how you use it.
