The Japanese dub really had "I'm sorry I lost you"??
I-
Tumblr media
For the record - and something that I need to clarify - it is actually the Chinese dub that says this, not the Japanese dub.
Someone corrected me and I just needed to rectify my mistake. I'm very sorry for misleading everyone...
With that out of the way -
YES! Just when I thought the scene couldn't get any more pure, they go and throw in that line! It's truly beautiful. Really cements Mario's guilt ;_;
This beautiful drawing perfectly portrays my emotions ☝

One thing I've come to appreciate about going into a story after having sought out or seen spoilers is that to me, it doesn't ruin my experience of the story - it changes it. That doesn't apply to all spoilers, but I've been thinking about Penacony's biggest spoiler (really, the one that so many people saw, it wasn't even treated as a spoiler anymore long before it actually dropped. Which was shitty, but a different topic).
For some, knowing Firefly and Sam were the same person before the reveal might have soured their enjoyment of the story. But since HSR's quests aren't replayable, I ended up really appreciating knowing their identity in advance, because otherwise I don't think I could have noticed some things - like Firefly's occasional little slip-ups into her more professional side, or the one that marked me most was how in both Sam's conversation with Acheron and few words with the Trailblazer pre-reveal, you can hear Firefly in Sam's tone of voice in a way you couldn't before. It really gave me a new kind of appreciation for those scenes.
(I still wish the main quests could be viewed again, though.)

Yukong Aboard the Astral Express ("Those dolls are adorable...")
Yukong: March 7th just showed me some dolls that were made to look like the members of the Express crew. They're adorable.
(Unspoken) Response: I agree. I love them too.
Yukong: This brings back memories...
Yukong: I come from a military background, so I don't have much experience when it comes to caring for children. When Qingni was a child, I rarely had time for her. I often worried about her feeling lonely, so I bought her a lot of dolls.
Yukong: I remember someone asked her once if she ever felt afraid being home by herself, and she proudly responded: "I'm not afraid! I've got lots of doll mommies!" Needless to say, the Sky-Faring Commission was very entertained.
Yukong: ...Thinking back, even if she wasn't too affected by my absence, I do feel guilty.
Yukong: The Nameless have a great relationship -- it lends a warm atmosphere to the Astral Express... and it brings back memories of my own family. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little envious.

Remember that final-special episode of S6a in Chinese ? I think it could be part of that new spin-off series centered about China, and that could be included in the first half of S6 as a kind of “beta test” or something, but it’s just a speculation.

Sun Wukong: This… is my worst birthday ever. Macaque: 'Cause you're trapped under a mountain? Sun Wukong: No, 'cause it's a little humid. YES, 'cause I'm trapped under a mountain!

It was kinda "funny" reading all the dub related comments about The Daily Life of the Immortal King on Crunchy. Because they seemed to have a consensus that the original Chinese voice was bad, like super bad, so bad it made your ears bleed. And I don't actually have any preference between English and Mandarin so I kinda just did both, which one worked better (English did in the end so after season one I settled to English)
So, what I noticed is that the comments seemed to dislike not the actual original version but Mandarin as a language in general, since comments specifically mentioned not liking how fast or sharp the original sounded or in more specific cases, they mentioned how they disliked that all the words seemed to start with s or t. Not one mentioned sound quality or actual voice acting. They just hated the language. But they had no awareness of it. They all thought that disliking how it sounds in their ears = bad dub.
So yeah, that does make me go a bit "hmmmmmm" now, when people argue over dubs.
