Mac Saturn - Detroit 11.25.22
Intro
This week I am recapping the Mac Saturn SOLD OUT show from November 25th or “Mac” Friday at St. Andrews Hall. Mac Saturn is a pop/groove rock band from Detroit, rock city! Joined by drummer Angelo Cappolo, Jive Moses bassist, Nick Barone rhythm guitar, Mike Moody lead guitarist, Evan Mercer keyboard and lead singer Carson Mac.
Mac Saturn is a younger band just forming in 2019. Over the course of the past four years they have added members to the band forming what is now known as Mac Saturn. This past year has been great for the boys having opened for The Stone Temple Pilots, The Black Crowes and Journey. They also went on tour with the band Dirty Honey joining them and Dorothy on Dirty Honey’s North American- California Dreamin’ tour.
The band also added additional dates concluding the year with their Til’ the Money Runs Out tour touring seven cities throughout the United States.
The Outfit
I had been waiting for this show since the date was announced a few months ago. I love seeing what the fans come up with for Mac Shows because the lead singer himself has a very specific fashion taste that fans tend to mirror. I originally never was super big into adding additional accessories or statement pieces to outfits until I started attending more Mac shows this year. I can definitely say my fashion taste has grown a lot over the past six months being heavily influenced by this band and its fans.
I purchased a pair of faded red flares and black corset from Urban Outfitters. Paired with a long fur jacket I thrifted. This jacket I decided to paint to match the vibe Mac Saturn always brings to the stage. I painted a tv with checkers on the screen topped with a red “Mr. Cadillac” writing to bring a pop of color and to bring tribute to one of their songs Mr. Cadillac. I also added other accents to the jacket such as dice, 8 balls, hearts and a lava lamp. I knew I would need a jacket for the night since it is the end of November in Michigan. I accessorized with my typical ring deck and a hat that has been signed by the whole band with their Saturn Vision Pin. Lastly, I wore my trusty ole Doc Martens.
Pre-Show
For this show, St. Andrew’s Hall was offering GA ticket holders an opportunity to purchase a “fast pass” that just allowed these ticket holders to enter into the venue before the other GA line. I purchased one of these which paid off because this allowed me to get a spot on the barricade for the show! My friends and I showed up to line up for this at around 4pm. Doors for fast pass opened up at 7 where we walked into the Shelter, which is another venue/bar below St. Andrew’s Hall. There was a fast pass line separate from the normal GA line once inside, you also could purchase cocktails and merchandise while waiting to be let into the main venue. I loved this because people did not have to wait outside in the cold.
The Merchandise
The boys were offering some new pieces of merchandise at this show including shot glasses, a limited edition sold out Black Friday show white t-shirt, and a VIP limited edition poster for people who had VIP tickets. Along with their typical merch including CDs, pins, tan t-shirt, black t-shirt and a black sweatshirt!
The opener Drey Skinie & The Klouds band were also offering some different colored t-shirts available for purchase as well.
The Openers
The openers for this show were Drey Skinie & The Klouds band. I loved watching and listening to this band open for Mac Saturn. They completely encompass the Detroit music sound, the type of new old school rock, blues and soul. Even though I did not know any of their music, I had such a fun time during their set and would definitely go see them live again if I have the opportunity! I loved how their band has two keys players, one main one and another who flips back and forth between keys and bass. They also brought out some amazing women vocalists for one of the songs, they both had great voices and brought more energy to the crowd. My favorite aspect of their performance was their saxophone player. I love a good sax in a song and even love it more when there is a live sax player, he got the crowd dancing & grooving.
The Performance
Over the last six months, I have seen Mac Saturn a handful of times whether it be at a casino or at a smaller intimate venue, this performance took the cake. I have gotten to know the group personally since becoming a fan and I know these boys care so much about their music and always put on their best performance. BUT with that being said, the energy and show they put on for St. Andrew’s was far from magical. This being their homecoming show and end of the 2022 year you could feel the energy they were giving for this crowd in the air, through the rhythm, through the bass, through the music.
Throughout the show, Carson added little gimmicks to get the crowd engaged such as throwing little plastic diamonds during the song ‘Diamonds’. He also threw out little pieces of fake $100 bills during ‘That’s Business’ and used a phone prop during ‘Get on the Phone’. Of course the lovely guitarists also did their best to throw out picks into the crowd during every other song, I personally love this, it gives multiple people the opportunity to bring home a cool souvenir. Mac played all of their songs from their EP as well as some from unreleased songs they only play live. They also covered Bob Seger’s Sunspot Baby. I loved that Mac Saturn decided to cover this song and pay a tribute to not only Bob Seger but Detroit as well.

Post-Show
I know this show was so special to the band and all of their fans. It truly was an unforgettable night. What made this night so fun for me was I was surrounded by friends and good music. I knew a lot of the people shooting the show and I was on barricade with some of the best people ever.
After the show, some of my friends and I hung out in the Shelter, grabbed some water to refresh ourselves after the long show. Many other fans use this as an opportunity to purchase more merchandise and meet the opening band members. My friends and I decided to go to this bar on the corner behind St. Andrew’s called the Detroiter. Here we grabbed some food to energize ourselves and some spirits to cheer the great night we had. Afterwards, we headed back over to the venue to catch some of the boys as they were leaving for the night.
The Atmosphere
I have only ever been to the Shelter at St. Andrew’s Hall, which is a smaller stage below (downstairs) from the main stage. St. Andrew’s is a very well known venue in Detroit and Mac Saturn’s performance did not disappoint to say the least. I loved how Mac made you feel like you were kind of at a soul rock disco in the late 70s but with a modern twist. The crowd was electric and everyone was on the same wavelength, singing along to every song and dancing the night away. I think St. Andrew’s was a great homecoming venue for Mac Saturn to wrap up their busy year of touring and I think they did a fantastic job with this show. I am so incredibly proud of this talented group and I can not wait to see what 2023 has in store for them. Until next time, see ya at the barricade! 🪐

#ConBrio Lead singer Ziek McCarter’s body was in a spin as he sang, “You gotta open up, set it free… but you gotta let it in.” The room continued to fill up as people moved from the vendor tent to the stage to dance their high even higher. People shuffled in the dirt, along with McCarter whose red dancing shoes were untouched by the dust. Their alluring sound drew in more listeners. “I know you came to get high in many different ways though let the music take you high now!” exclaimed McCarter. Funk like this makes people high. A Night In Fischer Hall - Frankenmuth
Intro
This week I am jumping ahead a little bit to discuss/showcase the first ever show I had a part in promoting, organizing, managing and being a part of. On December 30, 2022 one of my close friends Peyton and I put on a four band lineup at Fischer Hall in Frankenmuth Michigan. This came to be known as A Night in Fischer Hall.
This show took months of planning & organizing and included a lot of really cool features and people. It included the bands Lyons Lane, The Euclid Motel, Loud Thoughts and V*A*S*E. All bands being east side Michigan local.
The Show
Opening the show was the band Lyons Lane from Detroit. Lyons Lane is made up of Mark Leo lead singer, Thomas Thompson bassist and Nathan Gonzales lead guitar. The band was joined by Ramone Cerda on drums and Jarrett Koral on sax. This was the first show Lyons Lane performed together after rebranding. Lyons Lane definitely knows how to put on a performance, gathering influence and sound from 60s rock and roll. I love hearing this type of sound merged with modern day rock, I know I am not the only one who is a fan of this band and what they are continuing to radiate into the air.
Tumblr media
Following Lyons Lane was local Bay City band The Euclid Motel. The Euclid Motel is made up of five band members, guitarist & vocalist Connor James, lead guitarist Darrian Loehne, bassist Ryan Seifferly, drummer Nathan Seifferly and keyboardist Tim Cary. The psychedelic rock band added the perfect amount of energy needed to help tie all these fantastic bands together. I know that many of the attendees had never heard of this band before this night and everyone I received feedback from talked about how much they loved their sound, energy and the band members. Drummer Nathan Seifferely talked about how great the night was “if anything, it was the most love i’ve ever felt in a full room. Just seemed like everyone was there for the right reason and that doesn’t happen all the time.” Being able to see what Nathan described first hand both from a fans perspective and behind the scenes, I think he perfectly put into words how the energy felt throughout the course of the night.
Local band Loud Thoughts from Saginaw followed The Euclid Motel’s performance. Loud Thoughts has played many different venues in Frankenmuth, most of the band members originally being from the small town. The band is made of close friends & family, Clayton Singer lead vocalist, Chase Singer lead guitarist, Cade Lambert bassist and David Hansen drummer. Fischer Hall is a venue the band has played before but not at this high level of intensity, love and this many eager attendees.
I got the chance to interview Loud Thoughts before they took the stage, “We are finally sold out at Fischer Hall. We have been here so many times, almost too many times and just now with the help of these people it's been done.” One of the things the band is most excited for this next year is to write and record new music. “I feel like one of the things we have been focusing on is writing a lot of new music and so we have like a couple new songs that will be happening tonight. We have more that we have cooking up right now” said David Hansen. Minutes later David’s words came to life, Loud Thoughts definitely got the crowd going. Clapping, singing, dancing and enjoying all songs old & new. Loud Thoughts is currently working on raising money to help fund the recording of their new album. (Gofundme Link at the bottom of this article or can be reached at the link in my bio).
To wrap up the night the band V*A*S*E took the stage to celebrate and play some of their new songs from their latest EP release. To put into a few short words, V*A*S*E closing out the night was definitely the cherry on top. The band V*A*S*E is joined by lead vocalist Christian Thibodeau, guitarists Drew Kussmal & J.T. Jasinski and bassist Derian Parsons. The band closed out the night with a jumping, sweat dripping, head shaking take on (ICan’t Get No) Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones. While members of the crowd joined on stage with the band and closed the night jumping, dancing and singing to the Stones. (Videos on my Instagram @barricadebabe)
Ascertainable Appearances
Peyton and I originally had a vision when planning and organizing this event, I think it went almost perfectly to plan! We were able to have two very cool vendors come out and support the event. This included AwYeah Records and Currency Clothing Company both local to the area. AwYeah Records is a Record company that also hosts a weekly podcast. This podcast was able to come in and record live during the course of the show. Peyton and I were able to speak on this podcast along with many of the concert attendees. Currency Clothing Company also had a table at the show where they were selling all types of Merch.
We also offered concert goers the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets. These raffle tickets could be purchased for four different types of raffle baskets we strategically put together to feature each of the bands. While also including a lot of really cool things in each basket. I personally custom painted four different vinyls for each of the bands as well as two A Night in Fischer Hall vinyls. Each of the baskets contained these custom vinyls, donated records from AwYeah Records, custom A Night in Fischer Hall totes & shot glasses (made by Peyton & I’s good friend Jill), custom made band cups and additional goodies. Even the bands donated merch items such as picks. T-shirts, drum heads and CDs to each of their baskets.
Finality
Words can’t describe how well each and every one of these bands performed this night. Fischer Hall holds up to 250+ people standing room, the place was packed with people of all ages. All of these bands were so deserving of the night they had and collectively everyone came together for a great night of love and music. As of right now we have been speaking of hosting another Night in Fischer Hall. Until next time, see you at the barricade!
