Before departing for Cuba, our delegation began learning about Cuba’s revolutionary new Families Code. But it was incredible to be among these activists — to hear about their work, life experiences, and analysis of the ongoing revolutionary process in Cuba. These activists vividly conveyed how far Cuba has come, rising from a legacy of colonialism and patriarchal values, even while impeded by Washington’s criminal blockade.

The events of July 26, 1953 marked just one of many stages in a complex and often violent exit from colonialism that lasted for half a century. For many Cubans, the date is as significant and ripe for commemoration as the return of the exiled rebels in 1956 to begin the insurrection in the mountains or, indeed, January 1, 1959, el triunfo de la revolución – the triumph of the revolution.

By Wennys Díaz Ballaga Due to the complex economic situation of the country and, in particular, due to the limitations in the insurance of fuel, the conception of the celebrations for May 1st has been redesigned. Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, member of the Party's Political Bureau and general secretary of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba, reported at a press conference. In all the municipalities of the country, small parades or mass acts will be held in communities, bateyes, work and student centers, in which the resistance capacity of the working people and their commitment to constantly contribute to economic and social development of the nation will be recognized. The mobilizations, he said, will be promoted by neighborhood organizations, the National Association of Small Farmers, unions and the community, with the minimum use of transportation. The Secretary General of the CTC urged that a festive atmosphere prevail, although from the stands the continued war will be denounced, meaning the blockade of the U.S. Government and its insistence on keeping Cuba on the list of countries sponsoring terrorism in order to hinder all economic progress. In Havana, on May 1, the working people of the closest municipalities (Plaza de la Revolución, Old Havana, Centro Habana, Cerro and Playa) will gather on the Malecón, and local activities will be carried out in the rest.

“I was in Cuba. I brought  back these disordered images To put them in order I made this homage, this film.”
