Steven Yeun, Darren Criss and Netflix Films chairman Dan Lin are slated to speak at the Asian American Foundation’s third annual Heritage Month Summit, which takes place May 2-3 in New York City.

The year’s theme is “Together We Build Power,” putting focus on the power of community and public service within the AANHPI community, and how it can aid in tackling the root causes of hate and discrimination against AANHPIs.

Over the two day event, almost 1,000 attendees will participate in panels about trends in hate and extremism, civil rights and AANHPI representation. Programming at the summit includes fireside chats with former associate Attorney General Vanita Gupta; discussions of issues facing the AANHPI community, including hate and extremism, AANHPI education and representation in sports led by CBS news correspondent Weijia Jiang, podcast host Pablo Torre and television host Katie Phang; and a panel of mayors including Cincinnati mayor Aftab Pureval, mayor of Boston Michelle Wu and the mayor of Oakland, Calif. Sheng Thao on building power across the country.

Dan Lin no longer in talks

Dan Lin won’t be taking over WBDC. From this Hollywood Reporter article.

Sources say a number of factors complicated talks with Warner Bros. Discovery with a chief sticking point being Lin’s commitments to Rideback, his prolific production company, and Rideback Rise, his new non-profit endeavor. Negotiations went into salary and vision, but Rideback remained a complication. One scenario envisioned WBD taking an equity stake in the company, although the size was always unclear.

I’m disappointed, but also relieved in a way. I had hoped Dan Lin would get the job because Zaslav is conservative and has been replacing minorities and women with white men. Dan Lin’s Rideback Rise focuses on BIPOC-Created Content.

While I was hopeful that Dan’s inclusion would mean that BIPOC-Created Content would get greater consideration at the new WB, I was also concerned that his company wouldn’t be able to promote those works under more conservative figureheads.

With this ask and answer, do you think with his connection to Dan Lin that he may have something for Netflix, or that it is the spn revival (I hope not), one of the books the Padaleckies' were promoting, or a 4th thing that is is a total question mark because he keeps things close to the chest?

It could be any of your speculations. Most projects die on the vine or linger in development hell so it's not unusual for talents to have several projects they are trying to bring to fruition.

That said, I thought it was interesting back in February Jared was the only actor mentioned in the Los Angels Times about Lin's new job at Netflix.  Lin had produced blockbusters with well-known film stars and an Oscar-nominated biographical drama The Two Popes (I'm sure it was good, but I fell asleep).

Also, Lin's Haunted Mansion at Disney+ is a very enjoyable family film that may become a holiday watch tradition in our house.

Dan Lin Is Not Going To Head Up DC Films

According to a new report, Dan Lin will not be the future president of DC Films and Television after all. On August 27th of this year, we reported that Producer Dan Lin was in talks to head up DC’s film and television division. This news came right in the middle of Warner Bros. Discovery’s “reshuffling” and shortly after reports surfaced that current President Walter Hamada almost quit after the cancellation of Batgirl. Things have been looking bleak for Warner Bros. Discovery as of late, and it doesn’t appear that things are going to get better any time soon.

Warner Bros. Discovery is currently going through some significant changes and DC Films is suffering from it. Deadline is reporting that Dan Lin will not lead DC Films into the future. Some reports indicate that Lin rejected the offer from Warner Bros. Discovery, while others say that it went down a different way. For now, Lin is staying with his Rideback company. Reports also say that Warner Bros. Discovery is still looking for a big name to fill the top slot at DC films. We don’t know who that is and what that looks like, but we’ll likely get some reports in the near future.
