Dolemite Is My Name is straight up wonderful, right up there with Ed Wood as one of my favorite biopics. Eddie Murphy’s take on the mighty Rudy Ray Moore was so good but the real standout of the film without a doubt is Mr. Wesley Snipes, with a hilarious, Oscar-worthy performance.

Man jailed for 19 years for serious sexual offences against a child

A man has been jailed for 19 years for several serious sexual offences with a young girl. Durville Barzey aged 43 was sentenced to 19 years imprisonment at Manchester Crown Court today (Tuesday 19 December 2023). The first customer is Fiona. Fiona is an avid reader and writer, she spends most of her time in a book, journaling, or talking about books! She even has a Youtube channel dedicated to books and journaling. Fiona is also a full-time student at Durville University majoring in English and publishing. Fiona is studious and achieves fairly high grades and works hard when she is struggling to overcome and do better, but she also understands the need for self-care and when to take breaks. She attributes her good grades to her organizational skills and using tools to help keep her on track. Fiona wants to succeed in school and do well to achieve her goal of becoming a publisher, but she also wants to enjoy herself and have a good time throughout her schooling experience. Even though school gets busy, Fiona finds time to focus on her passions through reading, creating, and journaling. Her bullet journal she keeps is both one of her best organizational tools and one of her favourite pastimes to create with. Fiona uses it to keep track of school and her book hobbies, and loves to decorate each page to fit her favourite themes, aesthetics, and the time of year for her calendar. Claude Lorius Des bulles et une intuition

Été austral 1965 Terre Adélie, Antarctique

Après une journée de travail, Claude Lorius trinque avec ses collègues.

Ici, pour les glaçons, on se sert dans les carottages. Dans son verre de whisky, les bulles d’air qui remontent intriguent le glaciologue, et chef de mission. Et si ces bulles conservaient la composition de l’atmosphère du passé ?

S’ouvre ainsi à l’occasion d’un apéro un nouveau champ de recherche pour la glaciologie. Pour cela, il va falloir continuer de forer, et de creuser plus profondément dans les glaces.

Il s’agit de continuer à retracer le climat, et ce jusqu’aux origines de l’humanité.

La mission que s’est assignée Claude Lorius avec les scientifiques et les logisticiens des Expéditions Polaires Françaises (EPF) qui deviendront l’Institut Polaire Français Paul-Émile Victor (Ipev).

Dans les années 1960, direction l’intérieur du continent Antarctique.  

Avec l’aide des nords-américains et des soviétiques, les Français choisissent le site du Dome Charlie, situé à 3 230 mètres d'altitude et 1 100 kilomètres de la base Dumont-Durville.

Là, ils forent dans les glaces jusqu’à 900 mètres de profondeur, révélant ainsi 40 000 ans d'archives du climat de notre planète.

Pour Claude Lorius, ça n’est cependant pas suffisant.

À 550 kilomètres de Dome C, Vostok est une base scientifique soviétique près de laquelle les russes sont parvenus à prélever des carottes de glace jusqu’à 2 200 mètres de profondeur.

Lorius n’a alors qu’une idée en tête : recevoir l’autorisation des soviétiques de ramener en France des carottes pour les analyser plus finement.

Les Soviétiques acceptent l’idée.

En 1984, Claude Lorius obtient l’autorisation de sélectionner environ 150 échantillons de ces 2 000 mètres de carottes de glace exceptionnelles.

Échantillons qu’il ramène en France et qu’il va analyser en s’intéressant notamment à la quantité de gaz à effet de serre.

À force de recherches et d’analyses, Claude Lorius et ses équipes vont prouver que la Terre a sa vie propre, avec une alternance de période chaude et froide.

Autre découverte notoire, celle de l’accélération brutale de teneur en gaz carbonique concomitante avec la hausse de la température moyenne sur Terre, la signature de l’activité humaine et de ses effets négatifs. Et dire que tout est parti d’une intuition en buvant un whisky avec glaçons.
