You saved me—from the cliffside; from my torment; from myself. That is well worth the price of a hand.”

“I cannot forgive myself,” Findekáno admitted through his tears. “Ai, Russo—do not comfort me! It is you who is in need of comfort; I—”

Maitimo cupped Findekáno’s cheek with his remaining hand. It was rough and calloused on the fingers, but patches of new skin on the palm were strangely soft.

“Finno,” he whispered. “Thank you. I forgive you.” He pressed a featherlight kiss to Findekáno’s lips. “Will you do something for me?”

“For you?” Findekáno sniffed. “Anything. Anything.”

“Forgive yourself,” Maitimo breathed, and kissed him again. “Love yourself, as I love you.”

I’m working my way through The Horizon Line and it’s making me so very happy! I forgot how much I enjoyed Yonder until I got deep into the weeds of this one. I’m always slightly feral for your Norse mythology, and Freki the greedy one is a delightful addition. Love her.

Aww, thank you! I am very, very fond of Horizon, but I know it's a weird one that's probably the least popular of all my MCU fic. (For a lot of reasons, not least that it's billed as a Loki story but is actually a Captain America and Black Widow story.) I love doing the Asgardian worldbuilding, which lets me stretch my mythology and high fantasy worldbuilding muscles in a way I haven't done for a while.

Freki was a somewhat random addition just to get the "Loki's illegally importing alien animals" crack between Natasha and Darcy in there, but ended up being one of the most popular parts of the story. She's named for Odin's wolves from Norse mythology (the other one is Geri; their names both mean "greedy", which is why Loki's always calling her that). Normal people in this fandom: perhaps Loki should have a bird? or a snake? or perhaps a small, elegant black cat? Me: he's going to have a forty pound cat that looks like an escapee from a zoo and it's brown.

yes!😊 it went like

- had no idea for a username so i started with finrod, my favourite character from when i first read the silm

- gave it the duplication treatment because there is a hungarian twin word ingó-bingó, meaning a sort of graceful swaying motion (like that of a treebranch or a flower in the wind.)

- added an L, so now we have ingo + bling (which is very fitting indeed) + a hungarian pun that took a paragraph to explain

#goblin is also in there but that's unintentional #ingó-bingó is archaic btw #i wanted to change it to starwater which would have been an inside joke from when i was like 4 yso but someone is hoarding that url :((( #ask #erynalasse #thanks for the ask😙😇

I have three more designs to go with Boromir's "The Captain's Kit" design! Behold:

The King's Kit

Aragorn's design features Anduril, the Evenstar jewel, the Elessar elfstone (just to pull the books in), the ring of Barahir, the crown of Gondor, and his ranger's gloves and pipe, surrounded by athelas flowers (props to @erynalasse for suggesting athelas!). I know his crown isn't really part of his "kit," but like I said in my previous post, he's basically just Dirty Wild Man with Boromir's Vambraces until he gets Anduril.

The Marshal's Kit

Eomer's design features his helmet, shoulder guard, breastplate, decorative buckle, and sword, surrounded by simbelmyne flowers. Side note: Eomer's armor is THE prettiest of anybody's by far, it's sooooo gorgeous.

The Prince's Kit

Legolas' design features his bone-handled knives, soft boots, bow and quiver, and a seagull feather, surrounded by forest leaves. I kept wanting to add symbolism that I've developed over the years in fic (I always associate Legolas with mountain laurel leaves and flowers, as a woodland evergreen re: "greenleaf," and I often give him antler-bone jewelry and a seal ring) but I made myself stick to book/movie imagery.

You can get these, and Boromir's design, on t-shirts, journals, pillows, transparent stickers, and as prints. If you'd like to see them on other merch, just let me know. Also let me know if there are issues with various items; I'm still not entirely sure how Redbubble handles it's clothing categories, so if you want it on a specific type of shirt and it's not showing up, I'll try to fix it.

I am always tearing up, because I’m still grieving for my mum and Billy-dog. Sometimes things just hit you in the gut all over again.

Their eyes and then what comes across from them, their vibe I suppose.

Hazel.

Something in the middle? The end of Lord of the Rings isn’t exactly happy, in either book or film but it is fulfilling.

No. Yes! I’ve got an effing target on my head saying ‘Gullible.’

Oxfordshire, UK (It was Berkshire then, before they changed the county boundaries). 

10. What are your hobbies?

Reading, writing, walking, a bit of gym, researching anything that sounds interesting.

Not since losing dear old Billy in ‘21. He was a collie cross and 17 when we had to have him put to sleep. 

12. What sports do you play/have played?

It was mainly horse riding for me and horse shows most of the summer weekends. From Easter to September there was pretty much a show every weekend.

I just need to say that (1) your work is absolutely amazing and beautiful and (2) I’ve seen the Míriel piece before but this is the first time I’ve seen it with color, and it is STUNNING. There’s so much going on in the background, but it’s not cluttered at all, and the lines flow beautifully. The entire piece looks like it’s colored with light filtered through water. Needless to say, I’m a fan and I’ll be working my way through the rest of your art blog very happily!

Our favorite Donny Weaselpants McTreason sure isn’t having a good day and it’s glorious to watch. The news dropped when I was coming back from an appointment, I saw the notif on the screen, and I nearly pulled over to read it on the spot.

Out of curiosity, have you unpacked why Trump didn’t object to the warrant & seizure inventory being unsealed, but wouldn’t do it himself? And also why he didn’t object in the first place? I mean, sure, we know Trump has no brain cells, but even I know that classified top secret documents in your personal home is a bad look.

No. No, indeed, he is not. Donald's Horrible No Good Very Bad Day doesn't even begin to cover it. Somebody hide the Big Macs.

And honestly? Trump is fucked, and I think that even he is starting to realize that. Like all narcissistic sociopaths, he isn't a long-term or strategic thinker; he just does what he wants to in the moment and is always surprised and angry if there are consequences later. He obviously thought that he could get away with just thumbing his nose at the DOJ forever, and when they sent in the actual feds to actually grab the stuff, Trump was the one who threw a fit, made a huge public spectacle, and otherwise brought it to everyone's attention. Evidently Garland was willing to do it quietly, but of course Trump's pathological need for attention, and victimhood, would never allow that.

Likewise, the Republican Moron Chorus who just take their talking points from whatever Trump is saying at the moment, and then are forced to do screeching U-turns whenever that changes, spent the first two days screaming about how WE HAD TO SEE THE WARRANT NOW, WHAT IS THE DOJ HIDING!!! and THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM FOR THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION! So honestly, when Garland went on stage, gave his four-minute speech which basically went "sure we'll release the warrant, we have nothing to hide you fucking mouthbreathing idiots," dropped the mic, and left, he was pinning them straight to the wall and calling their bluff. Trump thought (again, because sociopaths have no concept of consequences) that Garland wouldn't do anything, the warrant would remain secret, he could make it say whatever he wanted, and keep up his martyr act. Except. Oops.

Basically, once Garland announced that the warrant was going to be released, Trump had no good choices. He could release it himself, but he didn't want to do that, because, uh, casually revealing that you are under investigation for breaking the fucking Espionage Act is as Big Time Treason as it gets. Trump has no interest in actually sharing information that makes him look (uh, VERY) bad. He just wanted to lie about it and get his myrmidons to lie for him, and he was reportedly "caught off guard" by the DOJ's motion to unseal and explored the possibility of blocking it. However, that would also make him look guilty as sin, not to mention be too openly hypocritical even (possibly) for the Republicans. So his only remaining choice was to act like he was happy for the warrant to get out there (when, remember, he could have released it at any point and chose not to do so). In other words, Garland thoroughly outplayed him, and Trump just had to sit there like "I meant to do that!!"

If you recall, certain members of the media were also carrying a whole lot of water for Trump on this, arguing that "finding anything short of the nuclear codes" at Mar-a-Lago would mean that this was actually bad for Biden/the DOJ. Well, they found not only top-secret nuclear documents, but also signals intelligence (equally sensitive military information), and, it turns out, violations of the pretty much Biggest Big Time Treason Law that exists on the American legal books. Remember, they had to have compelling evidence of the crime for the federal judge (a judge also appointed by Trump, no less!) to sign off on the warrant. This wasn't that they didn't know and were hoping they found proof; they knew and they knew there was proof, and they just needed to get it. This isn't a case where Trump was taking a few love letters from Kim Jong-Un and some commemorative golfballs. This was as top-secret sensitive as it gets, and in terms of legal exposure and consequence, this is possibly bigger than the January 6 investigation. It is an entirely new category of treason that we didn't have in our calculations until this week. And, uh. To say the least, you don't pull the trigger on a full FBI raid of the Former Guy if you're not willing to see it through to the end. So yeah. Shit is going down.

Perhaps you’ve posted about this before! But do you have any materials on Norse mythology that either you use for research on your Marvel fics, or that you’d recommend for laypeople starting out?

okay good news bad news time

mostly I use Wikipedia these days, but that comes with a side of I grew up reading mythology, mostly Greek and Norse, and I also have degrees in history, classics, and medieval studies, one side of my family is Scandinavian-American with an interest in our ~cultural history, and I'm pagan, so I have a lot of nebulous and sometimes not so nebulous background knowledge floating around in the back of my head at all times. So...the last time I was just starting out with Norse mythology was when I was about thee or so, and when I'm checking stuff on Wiki it's mostly running names and concepts against that background knowledge. I have occasionally pulled up more academic stuff, since I have access to a university library, and I'll from time to time go straight to the sagas or the Eddas -- I'll always recommend going to the original sources (such as they are, what we have about Norse mythology is significantly more fragmentary than what we have about Greek mythology, and that's way more fragmentary than commonly thought), but...mostly what I use is Wiki, which I realize is not particularly helpful.

ETA: I should add that for me, part of what I’m doing with the Norse mythology in my MCU fic is figuring out how to make it fit with the MCU, so often it’s deliberately not accurate in the same way that the MCU or the comics is not accurate to Norse mythology.  The MCU einherjar are not the einherjar of Norse mythology; the MCU Jotuns are not the Jotuns of Norse mythology (or the Jotuns of the Marvel comics); Hela is not the Hel of Norse mythology (or again, the Hela of the Marvel comics).  So there’s a lot of leeway there; I’m always trying to make it work with the MCU rather than trying to force the MCU into being something it is not, as weird as that may sound coming from an AU writer.

Hey hey! So, question for your Jewish stuff asks. Do you have a favorite traditional dish that you or your family makes? Either for holidays or for normal stuff!

Honestly, I have an entire favorite meal. We go hard on food, alright? The majority of holidays on the Jewish calendar are basically “someone tried to kill us, they failed, let’s eat!” So we have a lot of traditional food that we usually only break out for the holidays.

My favorite menu is our family’s Rosh Hashanah dinner. Kosher beef pot roast that takes the better part of a day to make, potato kugel, apples and honey and round challah. Various assorted sides dependent on whatever my mom feels like making. Chicken noodle soup. Chocolate/rice crispies/peanut butter/honey candy that my mom makes ONLY for this ONE holiday that I’m pretty sure she came up with herself that we call Shana Tovahs. We’d stuff ourselves silly and eat as fast as we can so that we could be on time for Erev Rosh Hashanah services, and then have leftovers for lunch after morning services the next day. I could probably eat my weight in potato kugel, honestly. Also round challot are Awesome, the first year I moved out of my parents’ house I baked my own challah and braided it in a special way that made it look a little like a Celtic knot and it was GLORIOUS. Challah in general is awesome, and I really miss not being able to bake it, but I have access to pretty good store-bought. I also really like latkes and soufganiot (jelly doughnuts), and matzah ball soup (which is basically just chicken soup with matzah balls in it).

I am so looking forward to hitting up Chutzpah tomorrow, you don’t even know. I haven’t had good matzah ball soup in AGES.
