Notes on The World’s First Ever Monster Truck Front Flip:
What if Lizzy and Genie refer to Thin Lizzy and Bowie's Jean Genie?
You and Lizzy in the summertime // Wrappin' my tiny mind round a lullaby
Tlsp, NME interview 19/1/08
Plus: Alex in 2018 debunked the Lana del Ray association: In an interview with Beats 1 at the Osheaga festival on 4th August, Alex Turner debunked this rumour stating, “No, its not [a reference to Lana del Ray]… it’s an objective correlative.” (Genius)
And... sweet info: "The Boys Are Back In Town" was the first song played post gig during The Car tour 🥹
You and Genie wearing Stetson hats // Tryna gain access to my lily pad...
I'm just a bad girl tryna be good // I've got a laser guidin' my love that I cannot adjust
Verse 1 and Chorus of Jean Genie, from Bowie's Aladdin Sane:
Genius notes are very interesting: "Apart from just the part of a chimney that sticks out above a roof? Possibly he’s talking about dicks. We already know that the Jean Genie spends a lot of time “on his back,” and “chimney stacks” are pretty phallic as images go. Plus, the name “Jean Genie” has been associated with the (gay, male) French existentialist Jean Genet. So the lyrics might be suggesting here that Jean Genie likes the D. Or it could be a nonsense phrase. It definitely wouldn’t be the first or last time Bowie stuffed his songs full of nonsense phrases."
Alex and Miles LOVE Aladdin Sane:
1. The singer also revealed why he’s had enough of David Bowie’s track ‘Time’. “I’ve been trying to fix a humming in my home stereo – it’s in the right speaker,” he said. “David Bowie’s album ‘Aladdin Sane’ has been sitting on the turntable so I’ve been playing ‘Time’ – the first song on the second side – whenever I’ve tried to solve the problem. I must have heard that song thousands of times this week… I’ll never be able to listen to it again.” NME, 19/3/13
2. AT: I love the whole Ziggy Stardust period, with “Hang on to yourself”, “Five Years” and “Rock ’n’ Roll Suicide”. But it’s true that “Aladdin Sane” is incredible, it’s got “Drive-in Saturday” and, above all, the grandiose “Lady Grinning Soul”. X
So, what if Lizzy and Jeanie invoke a certain mood or memory in the narrator's life? Who/What are they?
* ps. regarding milex references in WFEMTFF, "in the mood for love" is for miles and I will die on this hill !!
me pushing myself further with my art drawing really cool perspectives and whatever with the Duo and then i turn around and make lame cutesy ship art waaahhah 😭😭😭
dont read the tags on this if you havent watched gbc i just ramble spoilers 😭 just uhh screaming yknow. mostly mmnn but i like the other characters i swear its just these guys are making me insane
there are a lot of very important character moments and epiphanies in Little Green Men for both Mulder and Scully, but i find in the end the moment that plays in my head most often and gives me all sorts of Feelings and Emotions is when they're running away from the military at the end and haring away in a stolen truck, and while Mulder's taking them crashing down the mountainside, he shoves Scully down on the seat beside him and she lets him. And he keeps trying to protect her head and neck with his hand. Which she also doesn't fight off.
It's just so much, so intimate, she went to collect her partner and found him passed out and recently probably delirious but she doesn't hesitate for a second to get in the truck and make their escape, blindly crunched down in the seat with his hand on the back of her neck as they speed through the hills, without protest.
We never got to hear Alex sing this part of ‘The World’s First Ever Monster Truck Front Flip’
Which first of all he sings really beautifully, and secondly is such an absurd line when you take it at face value. Something I love about TBHC is that there are so many instances where the lyrics sound really nonsensical but if you take a step back the sentiment becomes clear.
This line in particular is so emotive because of the way it links love with destruction, and there’s this helplessness about it too. Like this person can’t help but destroy the things that they love because they love so intensely. And that destruction makes them bad but they have always wanted to be good.
If I’m being honest this song is probably the one I struggle most to understand but I’ve always loved these lines.
If you get this, answer w/ three random facts about yourself and send it to the last seven blogs in your notifs. anon or not, doesn’t matter, let’s get to know the person behind the blog!
1. I used to give blood regularly, but my iron levels dipped so now it's pretty infrequent
2. Both of my parents are librarians
3. There is an hour-long stretch of highway in Canada that has it out for me, and I am SO glad I have zero reason to drive it ever again
All thumb healing progress was undone in one evening apparently. It actually felt mostly fine on Sunday, until after work. They put me in an area I'm rarely sent to on Sunday evening, and I had to do a ton of heavy lifting. My arms are sore but it's like a post-exercise soreness (painful, but still very normal). My thumb felt fine allllllll day today, until I started to draw. Even with breaks, it still feels super tense, and now it's hurting even when I'm not using it. I'm gonna take that as a sign to stop for the night lol
I have one drawing I want to finish before school starts back up, because I'm worried it'll distract me if I don't have it done before then. Of course, if my hand prevents from finishing it, I'll manage, but that'd suck :')
On a lighter tone I feel very strongly about this cat in a blanket I found, I don't know why it amuses me so much but it's such a mood
i am just so earnestly curious. i read the books a long time ago, i am struggling to put myself in the shoes of someone who doesn't know what's coming. the latest promo that has the sinister projection of L: does this come across as menacing to people who are book-innocent? do those audience members have anxiety about him showing up in paris?
i know he was fucking excoriated by a lot of viewers for season 1 and ep 5 especially (no matter one's experience with the canon), and a lot of people now despise the character.
but does like. anyone actually have concern abt the guy showing up and making trouble? it seems to be the reaction they want people to have, I'm curious if it's working?
